Michael Jackson s Song Beat It
Michael Jackson s song Beat It is a well known song by many all over the world, which is why I
have chosen to research about it. This song released, Feb 14, 1983, was an instant hit, and
peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single remained at the top of the Hot 100 for a
total of three consecutive weeks. Moreover, the single also charted at the no. 1 spot on the US R
B singles chart. The song has been one of Michael Jacksons most popular songs to date, and has
been celebrated, recognized, and awarded in the history of pop music. Jackson s single Beat It is
not the only single to get recognition off his thriller album, songs like Bad, Billie Jean, and Thriller
were also great esteemed songs. But in recognition of Beat It ,... Show more content on

Michael Jackson in my opinion, was an individual who tried bringing light to the world, so by
focusing on this song and by singing or speaking about the subject it helped promote self
awareness to many people. Furthermore, the first couple times I heard the song I thought it was
just another catchy song by the King of Pop, but overtime I realized the song had a lot of depth
and meaning behind it, which is why it is one of my favorite song by the

Discovery of DNA double helix: Related to both Scientific and Humane Aspects
DNA, the molecule of life that carries genetic information in humans and almost all other
organisms, has been considered as one of the greatest discoveries until now. If DNA could not have
been discovered, we would not be able to do or test numerous things such as paternity test and
pathological confirmation. There are four main scientists who contributed their lives, knowledge,
and ambitions to find out the DNA double helix, a DNA molecule that has two strands winding
around each other: James Watson, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, and Rosalind Franklin.
Throughout historical backgrounds and environments, their discovery of ... Show more content on

In 1952, Linus Pauling, who was eager to know the shape of DNA, had published a paper about
his proposal of a triple helical structure for DNA (Watson 54). Following Pauling, Watson and
Crick also worked on the triple helical model, but according to the X ray data, the theory for the
triple helical structure, where phosphates form the helical core with the bases pointing outwards,
was failed to show the correct structure of DNA (Watson 54).
It was Franklin s diffraction photograph Photo 51 that finally showed the helical structure of
DNA to Watson and Crick. The photo that had been crystallized under moist conditions shows a
fuzzy X in the middle of the molecule with a helical structure. She also found out that DNA
exists in two different forms, A and B. A is drier crystal in that contain 20 percent water, whereas
B is less ordered and fully hydrated (NOVA). However, the mistake that Franklin made was that
she thought X rays were the only way to find the structure of DNA (Watson 69). She thought
making models of DNA and playing with them were not that efficient and were a waste of time
(Watson 69). In addition, she also thought the method of Watson and Crick using light beam to take
a picture of DNA and calculating the lines was ineffective because she thought calculations take too
long (NOVA). Also, in Photo 51, Franklin did not notice about the helical structure and how the
nitrogenous bases are paired (Elkin 44). If she thought of different methods

Misinterpretation Of The TED Talk Recording By Gail Reed
Misinterpretation of the term technology has been a reoccurring issue in society, as individuals
often link that term to an actual hardware. Although this interpretation has been accurate to an
extent, it does not determine the other aspects of technology. Technology has been continually
expanding, which led to new and improved knowledge on science and society. Additionally,
technological determinism reflects the notion that societal changes are stimulated by modifications
in technology. In the TED Talk recording, Gail Reed highlights the advanced knowledge students
have acclaimed through traveling to Cuba. Furthermore, she exemplifies the growing need for more
doctors in rural communities. For many individuals, technology has been notably

The Use Of Diuretics And Its Effects On Quality Of Life
While laxatives may be necessary for short term, acute cases of constipation, they are
contraindicated for long term use. Overuse of laxatives can cause a reduction in colon motility,
diarrhea, and incontinence (Day et al., 2014). This leads a cycle of chronically alternating
constipation and diarrhea that significantly affects quality of life. Over use of laxatives is also
associated with dehydration, tachycardia, and electrolyte imbalances. These side effects not only
affect quality of life but can exacerbate other comorbid medical conditions (Day et al., 2014).
Non pharmacological interventions are much safer. Most have few to no side effects. In the dietary
fiber studies mentioned above, gastrointestinal symptoms were the only side effects reported, and
even those were not significantly different than the symptoms reported by the placebo group
(Gallegos Orozco et al, 2011; Lever, Cole, J., Scott, Emery, Whelan, 2014; Yang et al., 2012). Even
patients without constipation, and those with diarrhea symptoms have healthier bowel movements
with an increase in dietary fiber (Rodrigues Fisher et al., 1993). Exercise, probiotics, biofeedback,
and education likewise have no negative side effects, and can even positively affect other chronic
health conditions.
Concurrent Use
Non pharmacological treatment of constipation is not only effective and safe; it also coexists well
with pharmacological treatment of constipation. Non pharmacological interventions do not

Alternative Outcome Analysis Of The Battle Of Fredericksburg
Alternative Outcome Analysis of the Battle of Fredericksburg
SSG Ian J. Watterson
U.S. Army
Abstract
This paper will examine the Battle of Fredericksburg through the research of analytical papers,
historical articles and technical reports by conducting the four steps of battle analysis. It will
analyze the effects of the use and dismissal of intelligence assets and disciplines when applied to
the planning of a territorial battle campaign. Using terrain analysis it will discuss how the choice of
advantageous terrain can sway the outcome of a battle. It will also discuss how timing and
momentum can be critical to our overall military planning. Finally, it will present an alternative
outcome to the battle by establishing the utilization of intelligence assets available to both
commanding generals and how altering critical decision points would have presented a significantly
different result.
Alternative Outcome Analysis of the Battle of Fredericksburg
The Battle of Fredericksburg
The Battle of Fredericksburg is remembered as the Confederate Army s most one sided victory in
its campaign against the Union Forces of the North. It was also the first battle to occur shortly after
President Abraham Lincoln had delivered his Emancipation Proclamation and the President was
hard pressed for a victory to use to bolster public support for it. General George McClellan fresh of
his victory against of General Robert E. Lee s forces at Antietam was being pressured by the

Good Morning, Vietnam By Starring Robin Williams
Introduction
The stunning film, Good Morning, Vietnam, starring Robin Williams does an incredible job
encompassing the atmosphere Vietnam War. It begins in 1965 when radio disc jockey Adrian
Cronauer is sent to Vietnam to broadcast events on the Armed Forces Radio Service. It takes place
in Saigon and includes compelling shots of the geographical features of Vietnam; jungles, cities and
beaches. Cronauer begins every report with the notorious Gooood morning, Vietnam! and
continues will jokes and upbeat music to make troops all over the country smile. He infuriates his
superiors by playing unapproved music and reporting unofficial news. He befriends a local boy,
Tuan, in the English class he teaches to an eager group of Vietnamese citizens. Throughout the film
viewers fall in love with Tuan and feel utmost empathy for him until it is revealed that he is a Viet
Cong. In the climax of the story Cronauer confronts Tuan and yells I gave you my friendship. My
trust. And now they tell me that my best friend is the goddamn enemy! to which Tuan responds
with Enemy?! What is enemy?! You killing my people miles away from your home. We not the
enemy. You the enemy. This encompasses the controversy over Americas involvement in Vietnam
and goes straight to the viewers heart.
History
The Vietnam War began in 1959. Five years earlier the country had split in two, the northern half

Thomas More Omnipotism

Sir Thomas More as the Victim of the Majority
In Democracy in America, Tocqueville warned us against the tyranny of the majority, arguing that
while the majority is omnipotent, it lacks omniscience and omnibenevolence, thus tends towards a
despotism in which those who differ are ostracized into submission. Sir Thomas More is the
minority in A Man for All Seasons, and the majority s ostracization of him serves to reinforce the
dangers of tyranny of the majority that Tocqueville outlined.
While the setting of A Man for all Seasons is certainly not a democracylike America, Tocqueville s
analysis of the tyranny of the majority remains relevant because it applies well to nondemocratic
governments. In Volume II, he writes, kings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When More prefers divine law over man s law, Henry VIII says, Those like Norfolk follow me
because I wear the crown. Or those like Master Cromwell follow because... I m their tiger. A
mass follows me... because it follows anything that moves. And then there s you. Not only does
More seem like nuisance for being the only one opposing the will of the king, Henry sees him as
a threat to his power. Henry sees that More is not arbitrarily disobeying him as Norfolk,
Cromwell, and others blindly follow the king; More has a reason for preferring God s law over
the king s law, which poses a threat to Henry s power. Machiavelli would thus advise Henry to
eliminate any opposition to protect his place on the throne. Failure to do so would leave him
vulnerable, as the opposition could gain internal and external allies to become more powerful than
he. In order to combat More, Henry appeals to the English government: the majority that supports
him and will allow him to deal with More before his opposition gains popular support and gets out
of hand. This would justify the majority s actions against Sir Thomas More. Tocqueville would
disagree with that sentiment, arguing that society as a whole must be vigilant to act against this act
of tyranny by the majority comprised of Henry and his supporters in Parliament. This, however,
seems an impossible task because the

The Qin Shi Huangdi Qin Essay
Qin Shi Huangdi, the first Qin emperor, was a proactive and ambitious emperor who implemented a
central bureaucratic system that oversaw the evolution and unification of China at the cost of
public sentiment. The Qin Dynasty is considered among the most influential dynasties as it laid the
foundation for the massive cultural and economic development of Chinathat took place during the
Han Dynasty, but it also failed to achieve many of its pro commoner ideological goals. In fact,
socioeconomic disparity was not alleviated and despite the notion of enriching the lives of the
common people, it was under Qin rule in which public resentment of the authoritarian government
peaked as there were countless peasant revolts against the iron handed bureaucratic rule of China.
Because a paranoid emperor alone wielded political clout and influence, the tumultuous few years
of Qin reign was rife with paranoia and suspicion among the masses. Although the Qin Dynasty is
seldom thought as possessing the same glaring discrepancy between ideology and state that the
Communist regime in post World War II China had despite the similarities, the failure of the
flawless egalitarian state models in socioeconomic and political aspects during the Qin Dynasty
mirrored the developments in early Communist China. Among the key aspects of the Qin
unification was the act of completely clearing all local aristocracies and uniting the peasant class
into a single, mobilized workforce. Ideally, the Qin

Marketing James Patterson Books
Executive Summary:
Over the last decade James Patterson has published an unprecedented number of best selling books,
cemented a powerful brand image amongst a loyal following, and redefined the process by which
authors create content to meet reader demand. From November 2000 through June 2003, Patterson
had cumulative sales of over six million dollars, trailing only John Grisham during that time frame.
He has generated the majority of his sales through a loyal readership that consistently lines up to
buy his next installment. Keenly aware of this dedicated following, Patterson successfully sought to
augment the proliferation of his titles with co authors familiar with his brand that could share the

With an exclusive pre release to a carefully pre determined list of customers, Patterson would
instead be proactively creating a buzz, and potentially, a blockbuster.
In terms of channel management, this pre release should satisfy all members of the channel.
Certainly, the book clubs would embrace the idea of being able to market an exclusive release of
a Patterson novel, and with exclusive rights, should be able to retain club members for longer
commitments. More importantly, this would not have to come at the expense of the retail chains
because club members generally would buy books through the club channel anyways. The retail
stores, instead, could benefit from the buzz created by club members, as non club members may
now be clamoring to buy the book their friends have already been talking about as soon as it is
released in stores. A true blockbuster would increase the size of the pie for all channel members.

Ishmael Harrington Extract
In the beginning of the extract, the theme that is revealed is hunger, which is present throughout
the extract especially when Harrington is watched eating. For example, this is clear to the
audience as Harrington chews hungrily, he eats beef which is being described by his observer.
This quote proves Harrington is desperately hungry: before thrusting a large chunk into his
mouth, a greasy trickle of pink liquid ran down to his chin as he chewed hungrily . I think that
the phrase a greasy trickle of pink liquid is describing the meat which is disgusting, gross
because of the colour pink and it could also be described as slimy. Equally, the author uses the
description Large chunk to describe the beef. He ate that yet ignored the pink liquid, therefore he
was quite hungry, especially because of the size which is used to describe the meat large chunk .

Harrington frowns before picking up his knife and fork and cut angrily into the remains of his

Also, the description of the facial expression shows disproval of what he was given. I think that
He cut hungrily into the remains of his beef because he was desperate to eat the beef and he was

Harrington and the actions he uses to represent the way he feels. He was angry whilst he was

way to show his anger not only because he might have been hungry but also because he might

An Analysis Of The Boat By Alistair Macleod
The theme in both the short story The Boat by Alistair Macleod and the poem Warren Pryor by
Alden Nowlan have direct connections. Both works reflect the theme of obligation versus
aspiration, and promote the message that it is difficult to be happy with a career chosen in order to
please someone else. In each story, the protagonists feel compelled to follow a path that is not their
own, but rather one chosen for them by their parents who are blind to the protagonist s true desires.
The narrator in The Boat is conflicted throughout the story as he tries to reconcile his own ambition
of attending university with the expectation he will continue the familytradition as a fisherman. At
the beginning of the story, he describes how his family is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He works hard and long for months until his father passes away, which lifts his burden and
permits him to follow his true calling by the end of the story. Were not for his father s death, the
narrator would have begrudgingly continued in a career chosen by necessity, not desire. In the
poem Warren Pryor, the protagonist finds himself in a similar situation, where he is obligated to
choose what his parents want for him. His parents are farmers, who want nothing more than
their son to have a professional job. They work incredibly hard to put Warren through school,
and aspire to spare him from their hardscrabble existence on the meagre acreage that bore them
down (Nowlan 4). They are elated when he finally graduates, as described in the line They
blushed with pride when, at his graduation,/they watched him pick up the slender scroll (Nowlan
5 6). When Warren becomes a bank teller, they are grateful that they were successful in giving
him what they believe is a better life. In the last stanza, however, it is revealed that Warren did
not have a say in his career choice and bore the expectations of his parents in silence. The poem
reveals that he said nothing (Nowlan 13) and describe him as having axe hewn hands upon the
paper bills/aching with empty strength and throttled rage (Nowlan 15 16). The reader can clearly

The Importance Of The Metrocables
The original objective of creating the Metrocables was to fight poverty, unemployment, violence,
and crime in Medellin (Bea, 2016). Given that both poverty and unemployment have already been
discussed, the focus now turns to crime and security. In addition to the apparent changes made in
the commercial realm that have multiplied businesses and created jobs for the previously
unemployed, residents of these neighbourhoods have noticed changes made in terms of crime and
safety. As previously touched upon, up until the 1990 s, Medellin s history of violence led to the
lack of surveillance and safety in the cityas well as in the rural areas. Over time, the Metrocables
have had a positive impact on the crime and safety sector of Medellin. Those who reside in the
neighbourhoods around the Metrocables have noticed a decrease in incidence related to gang
warfare, crime, and violence since the implementation of these aerial cable cars (Agudelo, 2013).
Since the Metrocables are a relatively new form of urban mobility in these areas, security
measures have been taken via surveillance to ensure that this mode of transportation is benefitting
people and living up to its original intentions. With the arrival of the Metrocables came great
surveillance not only in the cable car stations but even in the close surrounding areas as well.
When commuters are traveling via Metrocables, they feel safe enough to carry cash in their pocket,
a feeling they do not have while using different forms of

lucky enough to receive an offer for an interview at the institution that he had been working towards
his entire university career, an interviewat the top law firm in all of Toronto. Now it is time to

you are going to show the interviewers exactly what they want to see to ensure that you get the
position. While doing this you are engaging in what Goffman calls impression management.
Impression management refers to the verbal and nonverbal practices we employ in an attempt to

Is Beauty In The Eye Of The Beholder
Imagine you are walking through the woods on a sunny fall day, during this walk there are many
things that might bring you pleasure. Along the way you might hear a bird singing, feel a rock as
you hike a path, taste cold water to replenish your thirst, and see many beautiful sights. The person
you are walking with may have a total different experience and sensethings that bring pleasure to
them that may not to you. There is an old adage that says Beauty is in the eyeof the beholder. This
adage can be debated time and time again. The first things to look at is the definitions of beauty
and beholder. The dictionary defines beauty is a combination of qualities that pleases the
aesthetic senses ( Beauty ). It doesn t say beauty has to be seen by the eye. Beauty can be
combination of our five senses. It can be anything we can see, touch, taste, feel, or smell. The
definition of beholder is a person who observes a sense. The adage Beauty is in the eye of the
beholder by definition means that each person sees beauty and can find beauty in different things
through their senses ( Beholder ). It creates a very subjective approach to beauty. The adage is
true because each person is an individual and has different perspectives and way of sensing. The
idea that what pleases one person may not please another is true along this case because not
everybody has the same preference to beauty. Beauty is subjective and can be seen through
personal experience and should give society a

Hong Took Tong History
Hong Took Tong: The Migration of Cantonese Opera in the United States
In the nineteenth century, the first form of Chinese theater known as Cantonese opera was
introduced to the United States . Cantonese opera quickly gained traction and became the rendition
of Chinese theater in America. The new form migrated from the Canton region, and was in
Cantonese dialect. After the discovery of gold and the building of the Transcontinental railway the
first immigrants began to travel from Southern China to the United States. Cantonese was the native
language for many of the immigrants during the first group of settlers. Three years after the
discovery of gold, the Hong Took Tong Opera company traveled to America on October 18th, 1852

Upon his arrival in the United States Hong Took Tong imported a prefabricated stage that the
troupe was able to build on site in a week, so they did not need to use the American theaters. The
theater had a different style to the current theater in the United States. It was described by one
American writer as a curious pagoda looking edifice painted, outside and in, in an extraordinary
manner. The theater could seat about the one thousand and the Hong Took Tong Opera company
would sell out every performance. The theater not only brought along Chinese theater, but they also
brought back some old traditions melon seeds, candles, and oranges in the aisle during the
performance. The audience had a full view of the orchestra because the musicians were located
center stage right behind the actors. New instruments traveled to the United States with the Opera
that many Westerns had never seen. Originally, the whole performance was a cultural spectacle for

folklore, presented in a variety of forms, including romances and comedies all standard fare to the

CHAPTER EIGHT DISTRIBUTED LAG MODEL FOR MONEY SUPPLY AND PRICE
RELATIONSHIP 8.1 Distributed Lag Model The economic variable Y is affected by not only the
value of X at the same time t but also by its lagged values plus some disturbance term i.e.X_t,X_(t
1),X_(t 2).....,X_(t k),Оµ_t.this can be written in the functional form as: гЂ–Y_t=f(XгЂ—_t,X_(t
1),X_(t 2).....,X_(t k),Оµ_t) In linear form, Y_t=О±+ОІ_0 X_t+ОІ_1 X_(t 1)+ОІ_2 X_(t
2)+в‹Ї+ОІ_j X_(t k)+Оµ_t (8.1) Where, ОІ_0 is known as the short run multiplier, or impact
multiplier because it gives the change in the mean value of Y_t following a unit change of X_tin
the same time period. If the change of X_t is maintained at the same level thereafter, then,
(ОІ_0+ОІ_1) gives the change in the mean value of Y_t in the next period, (ОІ_0 + ОІ_1+ОІ_2) in
the following period, and so on. These partial sums are called interim or intermediate multiplier.
Finally, after k periods, that is =ОІ, therefore ∑в
–’ОІ_i is called the long run multiplier or total
multiplier, or distributed lag multiplier. If we define the standardized ОІ_i^* = ОІ_i/(∑в
–’ОІ_i )
then it gives the proportion of the long run, or total, impact felt by a certain period of time. In
order for the distributed lag model to make sense, the lag coefficients must tend to zero as kпѓ п‚Ґ.
This is not to say that пЃў2 is smaller than пЃў1; it only means that the impact of X_(t k)on Y_t
must eventually become small as k gets large. The distributed lag plays

extroversion or introversion, sensing or intuition, thinking or feeling, and judging or perceiving.
This assessment is used for normal functioning individuals.
The Myers Briggs Type Indicatorshowed reliability by using the test retest method. This method
showed a reliability ranging from .57 .81. This test was tested for validity as well. It was tested
against many other similar types of assessments to prove validity. All of the scores correlated to
prove validity.
The Myers Briggs is a written at a seventh grade level. This could put people who can t read up to
a seventh grade level at a disadvantage. They may not be able to understand what is being asked.
The length of this test is reasonable and can be done on a computer which increases its practicality.

Video Relay Service Executive Summary
This article focuses on the stressors that interpreters often face when interpreting in a Video Relay
Service setting. Because of the stress that these interpreters face, this leads to burnout, which is
equivalent to emotional exhaustion. There are many different reasons for the increase of stress in
Video Relay Service interpreting. This article surveyed 424 interpreters who worked, or are
currently working for a Video Relay Service. The survey consisted of three sections, which
included rating the severity of stresslevel from twenty possible stress factors, three questions
about the interpreter s experience working at a Video Relay Service, and demographic questions.
The article begins with a brief description of what Video Relay Services are, as well as what Video
Remote Interpreting is. The article also gives a definition of the term burnout, and... Show more

I knew what the Video Relay Service was, but I never realized that interpreters in this setting
could experience such high levels of stress that could eventually lead to a burnout. In the past, I
knew that interpreters working in settings such as legal or mental health experienced levels of
stress, but I never took into consideration the stress that interpreters working in Video Relay
Service settings face. Since Video Relay Services are relatively new, most people do not realize
the complexity of this setting. Interpreters must interpret everything, and some information could
be extremely uncomfortable or personal. The information in the calls could have a negative
impact on the interpreter, and be extremely emotional or go against the interpreter s beliefs.
Interpreters also may have to interpret a 911 call, which I never even thought of before. A 911
call is stressful in itself, and the interpreter has to make sure he or she delivers an accurate
interpretation because if they do not, it could be life or death for the individual needing to make

Essay on A Philosophical Examination of Language
A Philosophical Examination of Language
Philosophy is language idling.
Ludwig Wittgenstein Language and philosophy have an intimate connection to one another;
without a philosophical examination of the meanings and structure of language, we cannot easily
ascertain the objective truth of the statements we make, nor can we usefully discuss abstract
concepts. The philosophy of language seeks to understand the concepts expressed by language and
to find a system by which it can effectively and accurately do so. This is more difficult than it
appears at first; philosophers are looking for a theory of language which avoids the minute errors of
meaning and usage which occur in all discussions of abstract concepts and which tend to ... Show

Ordinary language theory, on the other hand, suggested that these philosophical problems appear
when language is used improperly; the language itself is perfectly acceptable and can be easily
applied to the discussion of abstract and philosophical concepts without undue modifications, as
long as it is used and interpreted properly (Katz 69). Each of the! ! se movements in linguistic
philosophy had its strengths and weaknesses, and its supporters and detractors. LOGICAL
EMPIRICISM
Pure metaphysical speculation which is not based on fact is, to the empiricists, neither relevant nor
useful. The only truth, in this philosophy, is that which is mathematically provable or
experimentally observable (Katz 18 19). This truth can be divided into two categories: analytic
truths are based on inherent meanings and can be observed through the application of reason, if not
experiment; synthetic truths are those facts which are obtained from the experience of reality
(Quine, in Rosenberg Travis, 63). How does this apply to linguistic philosophy? Any system of
communication must, in order to be meaningful, include some way to represent the truth
accurately; any empiricist will tell you that this truth is only valuable and meaningful if it can be
considered absolute and provable. In order to be perfectly accurate in representing the truth,
language must conform to a certain set of specifications designed to prevent it from

Social Communication And Rehabilitation Of Adolescents...
Social Communication and Rehabilitation of Adolescents with Traumatic Brain Injury
Introduction Adolescence, the time between puberty and adulthood, is marked by a shift toward
greater reliance on the peer group that the family, resulting in a greater need for more complex
social communication. It is also the age group which reports the highest incidents of traumatic brain
injury (Turkstra, 2004). One could surmise the many reasons for this increased risk taking or
increased participation in contact and/or extreme sports, for example. Because the adolescent brain

inhibition of behaviors, and planning as well as encoding and retrieval of semantic memory
(Siddiqui, 2008). It therefore stands to reason that behavioral studies on tasks including inhibitory
control, processing speed, working memory and decision making continues to develop during
adolescence... [and] developments in performance are linked to the pruning and myelination
processes occurring ... in the frontal cortex (Blakemore, 2006, p. 301). The prefrontal cortex, which
covers the anterior portion of the frontal lobe, has been associated with both awareness and theory
of mind, which are two very important functions that are necessary for effective social
communication (Blakemore, 2006). Additionally, the surge of hormones during adolescence, the
increased time spent with peers and the continued development of emotion processing contribute to
the rapid development and proliferation of social communication at that age.
Assessment Just as with adults, the impact that a traumatic brain injury has on the communication
skills and their underlying cognitive processes of an adolescent depends greatly on the nature,
specifically location, and severity of the insult. Closed brain injuries in adolescents tend to damage
the prefrontal regions. As a result,

African American Family In The 1970 s
Once again, in the 1970s, changes in the structure and dynamics of the American family are
present in the popular 1970s TV show The Brady Bunch . Perhaps the biggest change that is
present is the structure of the family portrayed. The Brady s, the TV shows main subject, would be
considered a blended family. Mike Brady, the father in the show, has three sons from a previous
relationship; he marries Carol, who has three daughters from a previous relationship, there
marriage brings both families together. I would classify the family as an upper middle class
family, based on the appearance of their house and the presence of a full time maid at their house.

The family that is depicted in this TV show is the Huxtable family, this is a African American
family with a nuclear family structure, as it contains a married couple living with their five
children. This is the first TV show that we watched that s main subject is an African American
family. In the previous TV shows viewed there was a lack of any type of African American
population in them. Based on the careers of the parents, one being a doctor and the other being
a lawyer, I can assume that this is an upper middle class family. For the first time, in this show
we see the children being a bit rebellious, and less submissive to the authority of their parents. It
appears that both parents share equal authority, and an argument can be made that the mother is
more authoritative then the father in this show, as the father seems to take more of a relaxed
comical approach to confrontations with his children. This show does correlate with the real
culture of the decade, as for the first time African American s are able to hold high level jobs
such as the ones that both parents in this show have. However, this show may possess a false
narrative, as through studying this period in time there is still obvious racial barriers that are
being put against the African American race. The Cosby Show provides the first look of a African

The Demise Of The Soviet Union
On the demise of the Soviet Union
Twenty five years ago, the Soviet Union collapsed taking by surprise therewith not only the
international community, but also its own leaders. What brought the superpower down? Its
authoritarian and corrupt political system, failure of the planned economy and stagnation, or
consistent celebration of national diversity throughout the whole history of the Soviet Union? If the
question is why the USSR disintegrated into 15 independent states, then the answer lies in the
republican lines which were drawn around ethnicity. In this essay, I argue the primacy of the
ethnofederal system and Soviet nation building policy to the fall of the last European empire .
First, I will address the main tenets of and motifs behind the Soviet approach to the nationality
question and how it backfired on the Communist Party and Russian democrats, who strived to
preserve the union, seven decades later; then I will discuss political and economic structural flaws
of the Soviet system and give reasons for why they could not solely account for the actual break up
when examined from a broader perspective; lastly I will analyze mechanisms, predetermined by
ethnofederal system and Soviet ethno cultural policies, that facilitated an avalanche of secessions
from the USSR, and sum up my arguments.
Although definitely unintended and unpredicted, Bolsheviks signed their own death warrant when
they cemented in their constitution principles that cultivated ethnic

So in order to change people s viewpoint and attitude on this not so pretty car, an advertising

It didn t show the car being driven or going on long trips. Mainly because in order to get extra gas

No one thought a four minute mile would ever be run by an athlete. The traditional thought was
that the physical body could not take the strain and their heart would burst. Then along comes an
athlete that doesn t know that fact and he runs a mile in under four minutes.
One of our greatest obstacles is our mental condition. Thoughts of doubt and unbelief keep us from
achieving our full potential. We draw back because we believe more in failing than in succeeding.
In order to conquer this condition, we must fill our mind with positive thoughts, successful
thoughts, and good moral thoughts. When we can fill our brain full enough with the necessary
thoughts, our goal will be a reality.
Here is a list of several things you need to do to change your thoughts:
Develop a quiet time for reflection; preferably early in the morning. Read and study self help
books. Write down your goals and review them several times a day. Write down affirmations. It is
amazing what can be accomplished when you focus consistently on your goals. Remember to be
specific and realistic but to also aim high. Associate with people who are successful. Continue these
things on a daily basis. Don t quit or give up.

The particles of the medium do not move permanently from their position (SantoPietro, 2013);
however, the particles adjacent to the object begin to move back and forth too, almost like a guard
on duty pacing back and forth, who, although he moves back and forth, does not move far from the
initial position. As these particles move back and forth, they bump into more particles, and the
process continues for a certain distance, depending on how hard they are vibrating.
This process of transferring the energy is called a sound wave. According to David SantoPietro
(2013), Wavescan transport energy through a medium without transporting the medium itself . In
other words, a wave does not transport particles, it transports energy through the particles.
Although many people think of an ocean wave when they think of a wave, which is composed of
water particles and primarily transports energy from wind, waves carry many more types of energy
than people realize sound and light, for examples. In addition, there are two types of waves:
electromagnetic and mechanical. Electromagnetic waves can transport energy through a vacuum

Review Of The Classic Game Show A Bit Of Bully
Blog 1 Microgaming brings players a bit of bully Back in the 1990s British TV was dominated
not by reality shows and talent show competitions, but by family friendly game shows instead.
The classic game show may not be as prominent as it once was, but they still deliver fond
memories of how TV used to be. When you think about classic game shows that offered wall to
wall fun, Bullseye immediately springs to mind. The darts based show may not have had all the
credentials of a smash hit upon initial release, but as time passed it would become a national
treasure. Given that nostalgia is a theme of choice in 2015, an online slots version of Bullseye was
bound to arrive sooner or later. On December 1st Microgaming delivered what many had... Show

hosts the slot variation s bonus round. Offering up major prizes including a massive 15x

The Heroine in A White Heron Essay
A White Heron was a beautiful story of the battles within a little girl in her
formative years in life. The story has a deeper meaning though, expressed in the
involvement of much symbolic representation. The author, Sarah Orne Jewett, paints a
vivid and descriptive image of the young heroine and her surroundings in the story.
I will try to primarily focus on the symbolism and representation in the story. I will also
mention the subtle references the artist made to the biggest struggle in a young persons
life self identification.
Sarah Jewett seemed to start the story off to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This showed how much diction and speech alone establishes
much of the story base within itself.
Much of the story was given to personification of nature. Nature being so
close and dear to her was primarily expressed in her affection for the cow and the birds.
The author practically made the large tree in the story come alive. One statement says,
...the sharp dry twigs caught and held her and scratched her like angry talons, the pitch
made her thin little fingers clumsy and stiff as she went round and round the tree s great
stem, higher and higher upward (SOJ pg.436). The description and life she brings to the
story makes the narrative very interesting and readable.
The next chapter in the story becomes very fluid and poetic. One prose states,
Half a mile from home, at the farthest edge of the woods, where the land was highest, a
great pine tree stood... (SOJ pg. 435). As the story begins to smooth out, it enters into a
spirit of representation. A man who wishes to dominate and destroy all that Sylvia holds
dear, enters her life as a desired lover. The romantic prose and ideas in the story illustrate
even better what the author is feeling about the gray eyed child . One verse states, The
woman s heart, asleep in the child, was vaguely thrilled

Animal Welfare
The concern given to non human animals with regard to physical and psychological well being
known as animal welfare. Animal welfare advocates enhancing conditions for animals while still
permitting human beings to benefit from various uses from the animals (Preece Chamberlain,

enforcement, or being used in a rescue mission, or being used as pets in human beings households,
the animals make the lives of human beings better (Haynes, 2010). In a regular basis, animals used

The remains may be because of diseases, therefore, there is a danger that the diseases passed to the

When human beings feed on the animals, they also have a risk of contaminating the disease. No
governmental laws have been established that ensure animals in farms treated accordingly.
Farmers have the right their animals in the way they please. Since we depend on animals for a
number of uses, it is logical that the animals should be treated well. Animals used for food and
other products should be provided with proper treatment even though they will be killed in the end.
Nonetheless, during their lifetime they should be handled with care and concern. Therefore, proper
laws should be applied to farmers to ensure proper treatment given to animals.
Animal welfare should also be applied in the community, within the community animals are used in
diverse ways. They are used for protection, as pets and for domestic purposes. Nonetheless, PETA

group protests against keeping animals as pets claiming that the animals are confined and do not
have freedom of movements. This concern came about as a result of a recent incident where a
man let free 50 wild animals free, the police had to act fast to ensure no one harmed by the

Sex, drugs and rock and roll. These are just a few of the things that summon countless people to
The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Friday and Saturday nights. An abundance of teens and
people are either pulled in by someone in their family or group of friends and there are those
who are merely pulled in and attracted by the peculiarity of the name of the show that brings up
and causes a sense of interest and curiosity. What pulled me into it was my group of close of

Being chosen to be called forth made me feel as if I truly fit in there and would never be
rejected, when in fact if this had happened anywhere else I would have turned redder than a

called forward by my favorite character, Magenta who was being played by a girl named Janet
that night. Damnit Janet. After the toast, or what was left of the thrown half burnt toast was
finished we did our oath and were permitted to go return to our seats and the show began. In the
Rocky Horror community, everyone is celebrated for who they are. Individuality and uniqueness
is something special and called upon among the groupies of Transylvania and Dr. Frank N Furter
and it will always be that way. No male is ever ridiculed or looked at for dressing like a woman or
drag queen nor is any woman ever looked down upon for dressing like a man or drag king. In

Toddler Room Proposal
I have been given the responsibility of stocking the toy room of the ABC Child Care Center with
toys that are appropriate for infants and toddlers as well as preschoolers. The toys need to be safe
and washable. They also need to enhance the physical, cognitive, social and emotional growth of
children from infancy to early childhood. The following contains my proposals. The first part will
encompass recommendations for the infant and toddler room followed by recommendations for
preschoolers.
For the infants and toddler room we want to find toys that will assist in developing reflexes, and
repeating, imitating, and goal oriented schemes. Experimentation is important in this stage, so we

and enticing colors. Some of their toys include the Teach Elephant, Busy Learners Activity Cube,

with pulling himself up to stand, push and walk. For some reason his Catch Me Kitten brings out
his anger When that toy is on he chases it down, yells at it and proceeds to knock it down.
For the preschool playroom we want to build upon and encourage more skill development and
socialization. This age group is moving away from believing they are the center of the world and
into realization of others. We want to inspire initiation collaboration with others. We want to
improve intellectual stimulation and expand upon make believe play. This can be accomplished
through sociodramatic play. We also want toys that will improve upon language skills.
Thought, judgement and involvement are key. Aside from toys listed above, other age related toys
for this group include blocks, puppets, and art materials to incite creativity and imagination.
Fantasy Forts and doll houses help with socialization as well as imagination. Puzzles and games to
promote problem solving and accomplishment. See Saws and Rocking Horses for

EMBA candidate due to the knowledge I have directed numerous multi million dollar projects,
which required flexibility, accountability, and respect for diversity. I will use these traits to enhance
the learning experience of fellow students and myself. Additionally, I formalized my five year career
plan with my manager. He is a recent Duke MBA alumnus, so we reviewed the UNC EMBA

N. Scott Momaday s House Made Of Dreams
Literature should be considered literature and should not be discriminated because of the ethnicity
of the writer or how the literature is written. Richard Wright, N. Scott Momaday and Maxine Hong
Kingston were all considered ethnic literature writers. Richard Wright wrote Long Black Song in a
way to handle serious social issues. N. Scott Momaday wrote House Made of Dreams which is
about a man named Abel who is struggling between two worlds and trying to find out where he fits

One way or another, these stories are related to their individual culture and the history of it. The
African American literature is a story about how Africans did not get a good education, if any at

The Genide Of Native American Genocide To The Native...
The only good Indians I ever saw were dead. Those were the infamous words of General Philip
H. Sheridan to a Comanche Chief named Toch a way when the chief introduced himself as a
good Indian. General Sheridan wasn t the first to see it that and way and he surely wasn t the
last. There is evidence to conclude that a genocide did in fact happen to the Native Americans.
Native Americans also known as Indians have been persecuted and targeted from the day the
first Europeans stepped foot on the Americas. European expansion into North America whether
to find gold, escape religious persecution or start a new life led to the destruction of Native
American livelihoods. Disease was a major killer, followed by malnutrition. Colonists in search of
gold staged violent ambushes on tribal villages, fueling animosity with Natives. Several wars
broke out between tribes and American settlers which led to large death tolls, land dispossession,
oppression and blatant racism. (Atrocities) When Christopher Columbus was searching for a direct
route from Europe to Asia in 1492 he came across the Americas. He called the people he
encountered there Indians because he believed that he was sailing the Indian Ocean. Although
Columbus is praised as a glorious explorer of the new world he was also one of the early
perpetrators of atrocities against Native Americans. The early eighteenth century brought about the
beginning of extreme Native American persecution. As

Transformational Changes in Healthcare: Two Case Studies
The economic downturn has led healthcare organizations to think big changes. We understand that
all organizations experience micro changes in their normal adjustments to operating; however,
occasionally a unique climate comes together to force new ways of thinking. This new way of
thinking is usually a whole novel vision and an entire new direction which transforms the
organization. When successful, these organizations become a learning experience for other
organizations that perhaps need to make similar changes. This paper discusses two ... Show more

According to its website, Henry Ford Health System now manages six major hospitals with 102,000
inpatient admissions, over 80,000 surgeries, and 3.1 million patient contacts including outpatient (
Henry Ford Health Systems, 2010). Palm Drive Hospital in Sebastopol, California near Santa
Rosa opened in 1941 with 15 inpatient beds and later made expansions in 1974 and 1991 to reach
the current licensure for 37 beds. The small community governed non profit hospital is supported
by tax revenues and serves a community of about 8,000 people ( Palm Drive Hospital, 2010).
Both of these hospitals had community leaders who cared about their future and were willing to
invest community resources for a transformational change. During Valade s tenure as Chairman
of the Board at Henry Ford Health Systems, the Board of Directors invested over $1 billion
dollars in new innovated projects and expansions of their hospitals. Despite the poor economy, it
maintained its Standard and Poor s A rating and Moody s A1 rating, increased its market share by
37 percent since 2005 (Welch, 2009). Dan Smith, a community leader, was the director of strategic
planning in the community of Sebastopol, California. He noted that the hospital was on the brink
of total collapse being unable to pay its bills. His bank stepped in and guaranteed a loan of
$600,000 to the hospital (Hixon, 2008).

Swot Analysis Of By Garth George
Extraversion
Herald columnist, Garth George was impressed when he met John Key, he said that Key is
sociable, charming, good natured, and humorous. He is open faced and talkative both in private
and in public. Advisers would say he is talkative to interviews with reporters because he usually
answers as many questions as they want to ask, no matter how repetitive (Roughan 2014, p. 182).
Being a prime minister for 8 years, he has done amazingly awkward moments as a leader. In
December 2012, he performed the Gangnam Style dance at the Edge radio station, explaining his

3.3 Conscientiousness
Being a prime minister has been John Key s ambition and losing his father at age 7 could have
been difficult financially. However, he was able to finish a Bachelor of Commerce degree in
accounting and became a successful currency trader, before moving to Singapore, London, New
York and back to New Zealand where he decided to pursue his political aspiration. Highly
ambitious at a very young age, persistent in obtaining an important degree, hardworking to secure
detailed goal and a very obvious energetic person unmistakable mark for high score in
conscientiousness. Key has been in Parliament for 14 years, 10 years as National Leader and
eight of those years as prime minister. Some of the main events of his post are the global financial
crisis, he was credited with bringing the country out of recession through the tax cutting program
and free trade deals; he was praised in handling the devastating Christchurch quakes promising the
city would not be forgotten and that it would rise again; the Pike River incident and the Rena
Disaster to name a few (BBC News 2016). In a tribute paid, Opposition Leader Andrew Little cited

WHO CHOSE THIS RESTAURANT ANYWAY? THE EFFECT OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR
CHOICE, GUARANTEES, AND FAILURE STABILITY ON CUSTOMER COMPLAINING
KEYWORDS: customer complaining behavior; level of responsibility; unconditional service
guarantee; failure stability; service failure and restaurants
We test the effect of customers level of responsibility(sole responsibility, joint responsibility, and
group responsibility) for the choice of a restaurant for a group celebration on CCB, following a
service failure during the group dining experience. Service failure is inevitable in the restaurant
context because uncontrollable problems can occur during a dining experience. However, our study
is unique in that it does not examine a situation where the customer is to blame for the service
failure, but rather a scenario where the customer, to varying degrees, has selected a restaurant that
has subsequently failed. The CCB literature advocates that customer voice, whereby customers
direct their complaints to the organization, needs to be facilitated by organizations. When restaurant
customers experience service failure, they frequently warn family and friends about their
dissatisfying encounter, such as negative word of mouth (WoM) and/or discontinue patronizing the
restaurant, that is, exit (Lam Tang, 2003. In the light of this, restaurants are... Show more content on

The maritime claims and sovereign claims of China in the South China Sea through the nine dash
line must comply with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (Rapp Hooper, 2016, 78).
China had historic rights to the South China Sea through the nine dash line until it ratified the
UNCLOS in 1996 (Rapp Hooper, 2016, 78). China is bound to follow the international law to
defend its sovereign rights despite the tribunal in the Hague ruling in favour of the Philippines
(Rapp Hooper, 2016, 81).
The ruling of the tribunal in The Hague was hard on China (Rapp Hooper, 2016, 78). The ruling
has placed limitations to the maritime claims of China in the South China Sea (Rapp Hooper,
2016, 80). The maritime claims of China to water and airspace was declared invalid under
international law (Rapp Hooper, 2016, 76). China cannot legally continue to declare military

Discovery Of Dna Yu Sun Park Dr. Murphy Lab section 4 Discovery of DNA double helix: Related to both Scientific and Humane Aspects DNA, the molecule of life that carries genetic information in humans and almost all other organisms, has been considered as one of the greatest discoveries until now. If DNA could not have been discovered, we would not be able to do or test numerous things such as paternity test and pathological confirmation. There are four main scientists who contributed their lives, knowledge, and ambitions to find out the DNA double helix, a DNA molecule that has two strands winding around each other: James Watson, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, and Rosalind Franklin. Throughout historical backgrounds and environments, their discovery of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1952, Linus Pauling, who was eager to know the shape of DNA, had published a paper about his proposal of a triple helical structure for DNA (Watson 54). Following Pauling, Watson and Crick also worked on the triple helical model, but according to the X ray data, the theory for the triple helical structure, where phosphates form the helical core with the bases pointing outwards, was failed to show the correct structure of DNA (Watson 54). It was Franklin s diffraction photograph Photo 51 that finally showed the helical structure of DNA to Watson and Crick. The photo that had been crystallized under moist conditions shows a fuzzy X in the middle of the molecule with a helical structure. She also found out that DNA exists in two different forms, A and B. A is drier crystal in that contain 20 percent water, whereas B is less ordered and fully hydrated (NOVA). However, the mistake that Franklin made was that she thought X rays were the only way to find the structure of DNA (Watson 69). She thought making models of DNA and playing with them were not that efficient and were a waste of time (Watson 69). In addition, she also thought the method of Watson and Crick using light beam to take a picture of DNA and calculating the lines was ineffective because she thought calculations take too long (NOVA). Also, in Photo 51, Franklin did not notice about the helical structure and how the nitrogenous bases are paired (Elkin 44). If she thought of different methods ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Misinterpretation Of The TED Talk Recording By Gail Reed Misinterpretation of the term technology has been a reoccurring issue in society, as individuals often link that term to an actual hardware. Although this interpretation has been accurate to an extent, it does not determine the other aspects of technology. Technology has been continually expanding, which led to new and improved knowledge on science and society. Additionally, technological determinism reflects the notion that societal changes are stimulated by modifications in technology. In the TED Talk recording, Gail Reed highlights the advanced knowledge students have acclaimed through traveling to Cuba. Furthermore, she exemplifies the growing need for more doctors in rural communities. For many individuals, technology has been notably ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Use Of Diuretics And Its Effects On Quality Of Life While laxatives may be necessary for short term, acute cases of constipation, they are contraindicated for long term use. Overuse of laxatives can cause a reduction in colon motility, diarrhea, and incontinence (Day et al., 2014). This leads a cycle of chronically alternating constipation and diarrhea that significantly affects quality of life. Over use of laxatives is also associated with dehydration, tachycardia, and electrolyte imbalances. These side effects not only affect quality of life but can exacerbate other comorbid medical conditions (Day et al., 2014). Non pharmacological interventions are much safer. Most have few to no side effects. In the dietary fiber studies mentioned above, gastrointestinal symptoms were the only side effects reported, and even those were not significantly different than the symptoms reported by the placebo group (Gallegos Orozco et al, 2011; Lever, Cole, J., Scott, Emery, Whelan, 2014; Yang et al., 2012). Even patients without constipation, and those with diarrhea symptoms have healthier bowel movements with an increase in dietary fiber (Rodrigues Fisher et al., 1993). Exercise, probiotics, biofeedback, and education likewise have no negative side effects, and can even positively affect other chronic health conditions. Concurrent Use Non pharmacological treatment of constipation is not only effective and safe; it also coexists well with pharmacological treatment of constipation. Non pharmacological interventions do not interfere with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Watterson U.S. Army Abstract This paper will examine the Battle of Fredericksburg through the research of analytical papers, historical articles and technical reports by conducting the four steps of battle analysis. It will analyze the effects of the use and dismissal of intelligence assets and disciplines when applied to the planning of a territorial battle campaign. Using terrain analysis it will discuss how the choice of advantageous terrain can sway the outcome of a battle. It will also discuss how timing and momentum can be critical to our overall military planning. Finally, it will present an alternative outcome to the battle by establishing the utilization of intelligence assets available to both commanding generals and how altering critical decision points would have presented a significantly different result. Alternative Outcome Analysis of the Battle of Fredericksburg The Battle of Fredericksburg The Battle of Fredericksburg is remembered as the Confederate Army s most one sided victory in its campaign against the Union Forces of the North. It was also the first battle to occur shortly after President Abraham Lincoln had delivered his Emancipation Proclamation and the President was hard pressed for a victory to use to bolster public support for it. • 7. Good Morning, Vietnam By Starring Robin Williams Introduction The stunning film, Good Morning, Vietnam, starring Robin Williams does an incredible job encompassing the atmosphere Vietnam War. It begins in 1965 when radio disc jockey Adrian Cronauer is sent to Vietnam to broadcast events on the Armed Forces Radio Service. It takes place in Saigon and includes compelling shots of the geographical features of Vietnam; jungles, cities and beaches. Cronauer begins every report with the notorious Gooood morning, Vietnam! and continues will jokes and upbeat music to make troops all over the country smile. He infuriates his superiors by playing unapproved music and reporting unofficial news. He befriends a local boy, Tuan, in the English class he teaches to an eager group of Vietnamese citizens. • 8. Thomas More Omnipotism Jaehun Lee 3/7/18 Sir Thomas More as the Victim of the Majority In Democracy in America, Tocqueville warned us against the tyranny of the majority, arguing that while the majority is omnipotent, it lacks omniscience and omnibenevolence, thus tends towards a despotism in which those who differ are ostracized into submission. Sir Thomas More is the minority in A Man for All Seasons, and the majority s ostracization of him serves to reinforce the dangers of tyranny of the majority that Tocqueville outlined. While the setting of A Man for all Seasons is certainly not a democracylike America, Tocqueville s analysis of the tyranny of the majority remains relevant because it applies well to nondemocratic governments. In Volume II, he writes, kings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When More prefers divine law over man s law, Henry VIII says, Those like Norfolk follow me because I wear the crown. Or those like Master Cromwell follow because... I m their tiger. A mass follows me... because it follows anything that moves. And then there s you. Not only does More seem like nuisance for being the only one opposing the will of the king, Henry sees him as a threat to his power. Henry sees that More is not arbitrarily disobeying him as Norfolk, Cromwell, and others blindly follow the king; More has a reason for preferring God s law over the king s law, which poses a threat to Henry s power. Machiavelli would thus advise Henry to eliminate any opposition to protect his place on the throne. Failure to do so would leave him vulnerable, as the opposition could gain internal and external allies to become more powerful than he. In order to combat More, Henry appeals to the English government: the majority that supports him and will allow him to deal with More before his opposition gains popular support and gets out of hand. This would justify the majority s actions against Sir Thomas More. Tocqueville would disagree with that sentiment, arguing that society as a whole must be vigilant to act against this act of tyranny by the majority comprised of Henry and his supporters in Parliament. This, however, seems an impossible task because the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Qin Shi Huangdi Qin Essay Qin Shi Huangdi, the first Qin emperor, was a proactive and ambitious emperor who implemented a central bureaucratic system that oversaw the evolution and unification of China at the cost of public sentiment. The Qin Dynasty is considered among the most influential dynasties as it laid the foundation for the massive cultural and economic development of Chinathat took place during the Han Dynasty, but it also failed to achieve many of its pro commoner ideological goals. In fact, socioeconomic disparity was not alleviated and despite the notion of enriching the lives of the common people, it was under Qin rule in which public resentment of the authoritarian government peaked as there were countless peasant revolts against the iron handed bureaucratic rule of China. Because a paranoid emperor alone wielded political clout and influence, the tumultuous few years of Qin reign was rife with paranoia and suspicion among the masses. Although the Qin Dynasty is seldom thought as possessing the same glaring discrepancy between ideology and state that the Communist regime in post World War II China had despite the similarities, the failure of the flawless egalitarian state models in socioeconomic and political aspects during the Qin Dynasty mirrored the developments in early Communist China. Among the key aspects of the Qin unification was the act of completely clearing all local aristocracies and uniting the peasant class into a single, mobilized workforce. Ideally, the Qin ... Certainly, the book clubs would embrace the idea of being able to market an exclusive release of a Patterson novel, and with exclusive rights, should be able to retain club members for longer commitments. More importantly, this would not have to come at the expense of the retail chains because club members generally would buy books through the club channel anyways. The retail stores, instead, could benefit from the buzz created by club members, as non club members may now be clamoring to buy the book their friends have already been talking about as soon as it is released in stores. A true blockbuster would increase the size of the pie for all channel members. • 12. Ishmael Harrington Extract In the beginning of the extract, the theme that is revealed is hunger, which is present throughout the extract especially when Harrington is watched eating. For example, this is clear to the audience as Harrington chews hungrily, he eats beef which is being described by his observer. This quote proves Harrington is desperately hungry: before thrusting a large chunk into his mouth, a greasy trickle of pink liquid ran down to his chin as he chewed hungrily . I think that the phrase a greasy trickle of pink liquid is describing the meat which is disgusting, gross because of the colour pink and it could also be described as slimy. Equally, the author uses the description Large chunk to describe the beef. He ate that yet ignored the pink liquid, therefore he was quite hungry, especially because of the size which is used to describe the meat large chunk . He chewed hungrily is also another way to prove how hungry he was. I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think that He cut hungrily into the remains of his beef because he was desperate to eat the beef and he was angry as the quote says, cut angrily . Throughout this part of the extract the author describes Harrington and the actions he uses to represent the way he feels. Both works reflect the theme of obligation versus aspiration, and promote the message that it is difficult to be happy with a career chosen in order to please someone else. In each story, the protagonists feel compelled to follow a path that is not their own, but rather one chosen for them by their parents who are blind to the protagonist s true desires. The narrator in The Boat is conflicted throughout the story as he tries to reconcile his own ambition of attending university with the expectation he will continue the familytradition as a fisherman. In the poem Warren Pryor, the protagonist finds himself in a similar situation, where he is obligated to choose what his parents want for him. His parents are farmers, who want nothing more than their son to have a professional job. They work incredibly hard to put Warren through school, and aspire to spare him from their hardscrabble existence on the meagre acreage that bore them down (Nowlan 4). They are elated when he finally graduates, as described in the line They blushed with pride when, at his graduation,/they watched him pick up the slender scroll (Nowlan 5 6). When Warren becomes a bank teller, they are grateful that they were successful in giving him what they believe is a better life. In the last stanza, however, it is revealed that Warren did not have a say in his career choice and bore the expectations of his parents in silence. The poem reveals that he said nothing (Nowlan 13) and describe him as having axe hewn hands upon the paper bills/aching with empty strength and throttled rage (Nowlan 15 16). • 15. The Importance Of The Metrocables The original objective of creating the Metrocables was to fight poverty, unemployment, violence, and crime in Medellin (Bea, 2016). Given that both poverty and unemployment have already been discussed, the focus now turns to crime and security. In addition to the apparent changes made in the commercial realm that have multiplied businesses and created jobs for the previously unemployed, residents of these neighbourhoods have noticed changes made in terms of crime and safety. As previously touched upon, up until the 1990 s, Medellin s history of violence led to the lack of surveillance and safety in the cityas well as in the rural areas. Over time, the Metrocables have had a positive impact on the crime and safety sector of Medellin. Those who reside in the neighbourhoods around the Metrocables have noticed a decrease in incidence related to gang warfare, crime, and violence since the implementation of these aerial cable cars (Agudelo, 2013). Since the Metrocables are a relatively new form of urban mobility in these areas, security measures have been taken via surveillance to ensure that this mode of transportation is benefitting people and living up to its original intentions. With the arrival of the Metrocables came great surveillance not only in the cable car stations but even in the close surrounding areas as well. The person you are walking with may have a total different experience and sensethings that bring pleasure to them that may not to you. There is an old adage that says Beauty is in the eyeof the beholder. This adage can be debated time and time again. The first things to look at is the definitions of beauty and beholder. The dictionary defines beauty is a combination of qualities that pleases the aesthetic senses ( Beauty ). It doesn t say beauty has to be seen by the eye. Beauty can be combination of our five senses. It can be anything we can see, touch, taste, feel, or smell. The definition of beholder is a person who observes a sense. The adage Beauty is in the eye of the beholder by definition means that each person sees beauty and can find beauty in different things through their senses ( Beholder ). It creates a very subjective approach to beauty. The adage is true because each person is an individual and has different perspectives and way of sensing. The idea that what pleases one person may not please another is true along this case because not everybody has the same preference to beauty. CHAPTER EIGHT DISTRIBUTED LAG MODEL FOR MONEY SUPPLY AND PRICE RELATIONSHIP 8.1 Distributed Lag Model The economic variable Y is affected by not only the value of X at the same time t but also by its lagged values plus some disturbance term i.e.X_t,X_(t 1),X_(t 2).....,X_(t k),Оµ_t.this can be written in the functional form as: гЂ–Y_t=f(XгЂ—_t,X_(t 1),X_(t 2).....,X_(t k),Оµ_t) In linear form, Y_t=О±+ОІ_0 X_t+ОІ_1 X_(t 1)+ОІ_2 X_(t 2)+в‹Ї+ОІ_j X_(t k)+Оµ_t (8.1) Where, ОІ_0 is known as the short run multiplier, or impact multiplier because it gives the change in the mean value of Y_t following a unit change of X_tin the same time period. If the change of X_t is maintained at the same level thereafter, then, (ОІ_0+ОІ_1) gives the change in the mean value of Y_t in the next period, (ОІ_0 + ОІ_1+ОІ_2) in the following period, and so on. These partial sums are called interim or intermediate multiplier. Finally, after k periods, that is =ОІ, therefore ∑⠖’ОІ_i is called the long run multiplier or total multiplier, or distributed lag multiplier. If we define the standardized ОІ_i^* = ОІ_i/(∑⠖’ОІ_i ) then it gives the proportion of the long run, or total, impact felt by a certain period of time. In order for the distributed lag model to make sense, the lag coefficients must tend to zero as kпѓ п‚Ґ. This is not to say that пЃў2 is smaller than пЃў1; it only means that the impact of X_(t k)on Y_t must eventually become small as k gets large. The distributed lag plays ... Ludwig Wittgenstein Language and philosophy have an intimate connection to one another; without a philosophical examination of the meanings and structure of language, we cannot easily ascertain the objective truth of the statements we make, nor can we usefully discuss abstract concepts. The philosophy of language seeks to understand the concepts expressed by language and to find a system by which it can effectively and accurately do so. LOGICAL EMPIRICISM Pure metaphysical speculation which is not based on fact is, to the empiricists, neither relevant nor useful. The only truth, in this philosophy, is that which is mathematically provable or experimentally observable (Katz 18 19). This truth can be divided into two categories: analytic truths are based on inherent meanings and can be observed through the application of reason, if not experiment; synthetic truths are those facts which are obtained from the experience of reality (Quine, in Rosenberg Travis, 63). What brought the superpower down? Its authoritarian and corrupt political system, failure of the planned economy and stagnation, or consistent celebration of national diversity throughout the whole history of the Soviet Union? If the question is why the USSR disintegrated into 15 independent states, then the answer lies in the republican lines which were drawn around ethnicity.
