The Role Of Desolation In Ethan Frome
The desolate town of Starkfield, Massachusetts holds farms, people, and more
farms. For Ethan Frome, it is suitable, but not exactly ideal. His intention was to
move to the city where there is more work, but after his wife Zeena fell ill it was
out of the question. With work, Ethan cannot stay home to care for his wife so they
hired Mattie Silver to take care of Zeena and clean the house. Other than the two
other people who live in his house, Ethan is not very talkative and is more kept to
himself. Zeena, Mattie, and Ethan all share a common thread of isolation in their
lives. The isolation in all of their lived can be seen through their physical and
emotional states throughout the novel Ethan Frome. Although emotions are not
always visible
Unredeemed Captive Summary
To set the stage for the narrative history book, Unredeemed Captive, on a day in
late February of 1704, the town known as Deerfield, Massachusetts was raided by
Mohawk Indians. They captured and killed many individuals as well as families,
then sent them on approximately a two month long and snowy journey to Canada.
One family in particular was a prime target of the Mohawks. John Williams, the
Reverend of Deerfield, was married with five children. He and his family were
targeted because of his value and importance to the community. Deerfield was
holding a French man by the name of Captain Baptiste, who was of equal value and
importance; therefore, Williams was needed to make a trade for this man.1
Eventually, Williams was able to provide... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pros And Cons Of Chemical Castration
For centuries, society has said, the punishment should fit the crime, but at what
point do we reach a line we aren t willing to cross. Sexual assault is a serious
problem we are faced with every day, and it does not discriminate between men,
women, or children. In fact, every 98 seconds, someone is sexually assaulted in
America and every 8th minute of that, the victim is a child. Mandatory chemical
castrationin convicted sex offenders is a debate that has long been analyzed and
attacked from both sides and each have shown to offer valid points, but the deterrence
and recidivism rates have proven that rendering a sexual offender impotent with
chemical castration is more effective than prison, can free the offender of unwanted
sexual urges, and shows we take this issue seriously by putting the victims rights
above the predator.
When considering the pros and cons of effectiveness between chemical castration
vs prison, studies performed have given us ample choices to discuss in favor of
castration. At the very top of that list, we have money. Who doesn t love to save a
dollar here and there? Or a few thousand, to be exact. On average, it costs tax
payers in the United States, $51,286 a year to house an inmate in prison, with the
most expensive state being California, costing north of $80,000. On the other hand,
chemical castration costs approximately $9,000 a year for testosterone lowering
drugs and funding is the sole responsibility of the offender. What if they refuse to
pay for the medication or are financially incapable of it, you ask? Even when paired
with the necessary psychological treatment, the drug program for a sex offender
would still cost less than half for tax payers than prison housing. Furthermore, we
can prove the effectiveness of castration thanks to studies conducted and documented
over decades on recidivism. One performed out of a California maximum security
prison, observed 260 convicted sexual predators once released. They were divided
into two groups; medicated and non treated, and then divided into two sub groups;
rapists, and child molesters. Treatment results varied based on the type of sexual
offender, but the one consistency to the study was that in both groups, the rate of
Self-Identity And Self Identity
Self identity is molded as a young age, but continues to change as we get older.
This is something that we all do not realize. During a person s lifetime many of us
pause to think what influence a person s identity. What makes us the individual
that we are? I would say that it is our home, where we live with our parents and
siblings. Why do we have trust in certain things? Why do we believe the way we
do? I would say it is based on the way we were taught and raised a set of opinions
that have been instilled in a person since they were young. I would say that their
three great influences in my life that makes me who I am today my parents, my
religion and my culture. Upbringing it has molded me into who I am today. Since I
was growing up my parents taught me about showing respect to everyone
especially our superiors. My parents always taught us that being a good citizen in
your community always identifies the individual as a good person. My parents
taught us that when two adults are having a conversation to never interrupt. When
someone was talking and if you needed to walk through you would say excuse me.
Never stealing what does not belong to you. Helping a person out when they do not
have a place to stay. How to have patience with other people and learning that
sometimes the best thing to do is just to be quiet. An example I can say that I went
through as I was growing up I was 10 years old when we had several family members
move in to live with us and this is where
The True Value Of College Athletes. College Student-
Athletes
The True Value of College Athletes College student athletes have some of the most
time consumed schedules of any college student. In regards to time commitment with
their athletic team, that can be a full time job in itself. Not to mention the academic
commitment that should come before athletic in the first place. Because college
student athletes bring so much to the table in their commitments, there has been an
increased discussion on if college athletes should be paid. With increasing
controversy of the topic, college athletes should ultimately be paid because they are
the cause for high revenue streams of colleges, it would limit illegal or under the
table payments, and because they make significant sacrifices that deserve... Show

Johnson and Acquaviva make the point that between weight training sessions, film
room, practice, individual workouts, travel, and finally competition, these student
athletes cannot feel much like students. (Brill 7) This further validates the point
that college athletes should be paid if they are spending so much time on athletics,
and helping the school earn money along the way. If college athletes were paid, it
would motivate them competitively as well because the revenue the program
brings in is partially based off performance for signing TV deals and getting bids to
postseason games that earn more money for the school. The more successful a
team is, the more money they will be able to negotiate for in TV deals and the
more likely they get bids to play in post season games to generate extra revenue.
Universities also make a fortune off of selling Since the players are the source for
this revenue by playing in these games, they would be even more competitively
driven to perform their very best because as a result they would get paid more money
and generate more money for the school at the same time. A win win scenario for
both the student athletes and their respective universities. Many of these college
student athletes come from low income homes as well. The argument could be made
that if the university is able to help these athletes families with a form of pay without
making significant sacrifice, then they

Concord Bookstore Organizational Change
The 64 year independent Concord bookstore underwent a period of upheaval created
by the owners of the store not considering how the change in management without
consulting the current staff and management could produce negative feedback from
the employees. The owners showed that they need to improve their understanding of
how organizational change should occur to produce positive outcomes (Spector,
2010, p. 2).
The situation the owners were responding to was the increase in competition from
chain bookstores and Internet sales. They did not get the employee s or the current ...

In acting unilaterally the owners ensured that the change process would fail to
have the desired results. As the Concord owner s previous hands off approach to
management of the store is shown by the long work histories of managers and
staff. They did not create an atmosphere that was conductive to any changes
(Borkowski, 2005, p. 384 385). In this case as there was no instilling a vision of the
necessity of the change it lead to failure. The owners sought to skip the first stage of
the change process that would have helped the employees to help understand the
need for the second process of change (Borkowski, 2005, p. 385).
Rather than the owners understanding the reason for following the change process
in bringing in a new general manager it eradicated the special considerations that
had made the store unique. One employee who quit after working there 18 years
had a hard time understanding how the dispute got out of hand but by the old staff
leaving the store just becomes bookshelves and carpets (Spector, 2010, p. 3). In
limiting the chance of employees working to develop new skills and competencies by
participating in deciding how the store would be run the owners ensured that the
change would occur but fail.
Conclusion
The Concord Bookstore organizational change case looks to be a case of where the
owners are trying to save a business struggling but fail in this effort. This paper

Airforce Security Threats
POSITION PAPER ON AIR FORCE RESILIENCY TO CURRENT AND FUTURE
CYBER ATTACKS 1. In order to adequately secure computer network domains, the
Department of Defense must examine incumbent security practices against the
existing cyber adversary s capabilities.1 Currently, the Airforce is maintaining an
outdated and reactive defense posture that is not prepared for current or future
cyberspace attacks.2 Therefore, the possible solutions to resiliency on the battlefield
of cyber warfare will depend on effective counterstrategies to enemy operations,
expansion of the Airforce cyber offensive, or aggressive application of ubiquitous
security practices.3 2. A secured network of information systems and controls are

Again, if the Air Force is seeking to be a resilient entity, successful in the opposition
of adversarial threats, then is must be persistent in the pursuit of security objectives.
17 While abundant intelligence and a powerful offensive are potential solutions to
this objective. 18 The most effective is aggressive application of ubiquitous security
practices through policy amendments and educational programs. 19 NOTES 1.

Essay on Crash
Because the characters in Crash portrayed a variety of ethnicities, the movie attempts
to address the diversity represented in the American landscape and also the
stereotypes connected to these ethnicities. There was the stereotype of the white
female victim, played by Sandra Bullock. After already displaying her prejudice
against African Americanmales by holding her purse tighter and grabbing on to her
husband s arm when she encountered two of them in the streets of her
neighborhood; she coincidentally was car jacked by the same young men. The
stereotypes portrayed were that of the white woman who is always in danger and
needs to be protected and that all African American males are thugs and criminals.
The female victim was the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, his prejudice against African Americans was apparent with his
comment about the name of the HMO representative while having a telephone
conversation with her. This stereotype was on the subject of black or ghetto names.
The name of the representative was Shanequa . The character also expressed
sentiments that because the representative was black, she had taken the job from four
other more qualified white men who did not get her job because of Affirmative
Action. Although the movie was an attempt to show the negative outcomes of
prejudice, racism and stereotypes, it used these stereotypes to convey this message.
For example, there was a Persian shopkeeper, who looked Arab, and could not speak
clear English or fully understand it. An exchange between a White Americangun
shop owner and the Persian shopkeeper was a prime example of not only race
relations but international relations represented in American culture. After the tragic
events of 9/11, citizens who possessed Muslim and or Middle Eastern characteristics
came under great attack from all other Americans including minorities. It is apparent
that Americans are unacquainted of other people in countries around them. When the
gun shop owner called the shopkeeper, Osama , because he was getting impatient due
to the time it took for the shopkeeper s daughter to translate the conversation, he
expressed his disdain and ignorance about
The Intellectual Property
The lawyer Gregory T. Victoroff said At its best, sampling benefits society by creating
a valuable new contribution to modern music literature. At its worst, sampling is
vandalism and stealing . Half way between creativity and plagiarism, sampling is a
controversial issue in the music industry and the infringement of copyright. In this
assignment I m going to be discussing copyright and intellectual propertyrights in
relation to the music industry.
The Statute of Anne, was the first form of law that protected intellectual property,
invented in the UK in 1709. The ultimate goal of intellectual property law is that
human knowledge is increased and made accessible to everyone. Under the umbrella
of intellectual property, there are four rights that protect creative works: performers
rights, moral rights, trademarks and copyright. This rights need to exist in order to
protect artistic integrity and give entitlement to the authors. Intellectual property
covers different rights in the creative industries, especially, copyright is the frame that
governs all the activities in the music industry.
Moral rights are the basis of artistic integrity, as opposed to copyright that gives
rights to receive economic reward for the use of a creative work. Moral rights
include the right of paternity, which is the right to be identified as the author of the
work. False attribution right gives right to not have a work falsely attributed to you.
And integrity right, is the right of an author

B. GSM Modem
A GSM modem is a wireless modem that works with a GSM wireless network. A
wireless modem behaves like a dial up modem. The main difference between them is
that a dial up modem sends and receives data through a fixed telephone line while a
wireless modem sends and receives data through radio waves. Like a GSM mobile
phone, a GSM modem requires a SIM card from a wireless carrier in order to operate.
Generally, computers use AT commands to control modems. Reading of message
from the SIM card inserted into the modem is done by sending the appropriate AT
command to the modem.
In addition to the standard AT commands, GSM modems support an extended set of
AT commands. These extended AT commands are defined in the GSM standards.
Some common basic SMS related AT Commands are shown in table below:

The Olympic Games Of The Games
The Olympic games originated in Athens in 776 B.C. The more popular modern
day Olympic games began nearly 2300 years later in 1896. The games no longer
represented a religious festival, but a sports competition instead. The games can be
studied via multiple aspects such as political, social, and economic, but this paper
will concentrate on the economic aspect of the games and more specifically, the
macroeconomic impacts the games possess. It is evident that hosting the Olympics
games is no walk in the park. The countries trusted with this task have to spend
billions to make the games a reality. Some people believe that the countries, even
after spending billions of dollars benefit from the games, while others believe that the
money can be spent elsewhere more efficiently. To reach a conclusion, one must study
all of the different impacts in all of the different sectors the games have.
London was not the only option when it came to the 2012 summer Olympics. France
was also in the running and was actually pretty close to getting the gig. London won
the bidding race with 54 50 votes from the International Olympic Committee. The
need of some economic spark for London s economy may have been the reason why
the vote went their way. London s economy had been stuck in a recession for almost
a nine month period. The question was: Are the Olympics going to provide a positive
benefit for London s economy?
Employment
Preparing for the Olympics takes a lot of time, effort and money.
Hydraulic Fracking In The Oil And Gas Industry
Introduction and Background In the oil and gas industry, fracking is a major
current issue that engineers are dealing with for the current state of the United
states. Hydraulic fracking, or fracking is the process of drilling a well to the depth
in the earth where shale rock is located. Once the drill bit reaches this specific
depth, the drilling alters its path to a horizontal track into the shale rock in order to
span the entire reservoir. Next, fracking fluid, consisting of sand, liquid chemicals,
and water, is injected into the shale rock at a high pressure, which cause small
cracks, known as fissures, in the rock. This action allows oil and natural gasto freely
escape into the pipeline. The oil and gas mixture then flows to the surface... Show

Also the disposal of the fracking fluid should be regulated in a non harmful way to
the environment. Along with many other engineering activities, there are ignorant
people that rally against fracking due to the little information they know and their
refusal to research the topic before making accusations. Conclusion In conclusion,
Fracking is an innovative way to extract oil and gas from shale rock. It differs from
conventional drilling from the fact that deeper wells and horizontal drilling are
utilized in order to produce more. There are many benefits that accompany
fracking, such as increased employment and decreased cost of importation for the
US because of their large reserves of shale rock. Fracking does come with some
drawbacks, such as environmental issues and fresh water reserves. With future
regulations of fracking, the negative environmental effects can be mitigated. Also,
additional water purification systems should be implemented at fracking sites in
order for excess water to be reused and not disposed. Currently, OPEC has lowered
the price to $54 per barrel, which limits fracking because the breakeven price per
barrel is $64 ( A key investor s guide to the crude oil market ). When the price per
barrel exceeds $64, US will become an exporter rather than importing form outside
countries. This will ultimately increase the US
Self Evaluation as a Nurse
Self Evaluation as a Nurse I am pleased to state that I have been a registered nurse
for forty years. At this moment, I continue working in nursing while pursuing my
Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. My intended month of completion is
October 2012. My experience in nursing education has motivated me to continue
my education and pursue a Masters degree in a nursing related field commencing
in 2013. Thus, in terms of my career planning, my education is a crucial part to my
professional development. Extending and deepening one s education, especially
within the career field of one s choice, can only bring upon additional professional
opportunities as well as opportunities for personal growth. My career planning
includes building upon my decades of experience in obstetrics, my particular area of
specialty, expertise, and passion, with the assistance and addition of higher
education. I believe in terms of career planning, my strengths include foresight,
preparation, internal motivation, and focus. With respect to personal and
professional accountability, I believe I have prominent strengths in these areas as
well. I would have not have lasted within the nursing field for forty years if I did not
have a firm sense of personal and professional accountability. There are risks and
precautions to be taken within any specific area of nursing and medicine, but there is
certainly something quite obvious about the accountability necessary when working
in obstetrics. I believe my

Gilgamesh, The Epic Of Gilgamesh
In The Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh has to go through a series of hardship to obtain
immortality. Gilgamesh s determination to find immortality is impacted by the death
of his best companion, Enkidu. At the end of Gilgamesh s quest, he learns the
destined fate of mortals (which is...?). Gilgamesh s character development is shown
throughout the story; he changes from an invincible, fearless king to a king who has
accept his mortality and sees his own limitations. Although the quest of Gilgamesh
seems to focus on gaining immortality, it works as a bridge to help Gilgamesh accept
his mortality and to understand that immortality is not achieved by the length of life,
but by the stories that s pass on. In the beginning (beginning of what? the epic? the
quest?), Gilgamesh seeks immortality because he wants to live forever. After
Gilgamesh witnesses the deathof Enkidu, Gilgamesh becomes afraid of death himself.
many direct parallels are shown throughout the story to justify the reasoning behind
Gilgamesh s fear of death. Enkidu often acts as an equal companion of Gilgamesh;
Gilgamesh is born with a mixture of human and divine, while Enkidu is a mixture of
human and wild beast. Although there is a difference in their status, their ability and
strength are still the same. Gilgamesh is perfect in strength (Tablet I, Line 36) and
Enkidu is the mightiest in the land (I,117). When Gilgamesh sees someone, who has
been through every hardship with him and is equal in strength, grasp

Importance Of Fuzzy Logic
6.1. IMPORTANCE OF FUZZY LOGIC Fuzzy logic is all about the relative
importance of precision: use as Fuzzy Logic Toolbox software with MATLAB
technical computing software as a tool for solving problems with fuzzy logic.
Fuzzy logic is a fascinating area of research because it does a good job of trading off
between significance and precision something that humans have been managing for a
very long time. In this sense, fuzzy logicis both old and new because, although the
modern and methodical science of fuzzy logic is still young, the concept of fuzzy
logic relies on age old skills of human reasoning. Fig 6.1 Fuzzy Description 6.2.
USAGE OF FUZZY LOGIC Fuzzy logic is a convenient way to map an input space
to an output space. Mapping input to output is the starting point for everything.
Consider the following examples:
With information about how good your service was at a restaurant, a fuzzy logic
system can tell you what the tip should be.
With your specification of how hot you want the water, a fuzzy logic system can
adjust the faucet valve to the right setting.
With information about how far away the subject of your photograph is, a fuzzy
logic system can focus the lens for you.

The Violence Of The Black Lives Matter By Alicia Garza,...
What started off as a tweet turned into a movement and has now become a full on
war against police. Many African Americans are outraged by police and want
liberation, so they have joined Black Lives Matter in hopes of change. In order to
understand the movement, it is important to look at the history, the agenda, and
manifesto of this organization. The real questions at matter are what is its purpose of
this organization, how it is effecting law enforcement, and how is law enforcement
responding.
Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi are the creators of the now famous
hash tag Black Lives Matter. It was made as a call to action after George
Zimmerman was not held accountable for the fatal shooting of teen Trayvon Martin
in 2012. This incident was what gave life to the Black Lives Matter movement and
has reframed the way Americans perceive police treatments of people of color. It
was not until 2014 when it exploded all over social media after a Ferguson police
officer killed a young black man named Michael Brown. The book Forces of
Deviance: understanding the dark side of policing says, African Americans tend to
believe that the police were more corrupt, more unfair, harsher, tougher, less friendly,
and crueler than did whites. African Americans generally were more dissatisfied
with police service in comparison to the white population (Kappeler, Sluder, Alpert
6). Ferguson was exposed as a case study of structural racism in America and a
metaphor for all that
The Memoir Of A Recovering Skinhead
In the Autobiography of a Recovering Skinhead, Frank met multiple people who
changed his life. For instance, his family had an impact on his life. His father had
not been there for him as he grew up, while his mother changed his last name to
hers so Frank would not know he was Irish. John s introduction into Frank s life
was what had truly ignited Frank s anger. John was his mother s new boyfriend,
who eventually married his mother and raised two children with her. He also beat
Frank as a child and would often call him stupid or mentally retarded. After for
what seemed like a while, John convinced Frank s mother to kick Frank out of the
house, which she has responded accordingly to. He leaves to live with his cousin
Shawn, who would introduce him to life as a skinhead. Shawn and his friends
introduced and taught Frank about neo nazi customs Frank became a skinhead.
Frank s cousin Nick was another huge element in his life, since he taught him
many life lessons. An example of such is seen when Frank joins and takes part in
Nick s crew, which Nick then explains to Frank that he cannot protect him despite
the fact that they are family. In addition to family, Frank also met more people that
changed his life during his time in an Illinois prison. For example, his best friends
in prison (Little G. and Jello) allowed him see the world without hatred and see that
race or skin color does not make them any different from one another. Their words

The Problem Of World Hunger
Growing up, the commercials of starving children in Africa in need of food because
of rampant starvation and the pervasive threat of death have been streaming on
various media. World Hunger is one of the main problems that a large portion of the
global population faces today. Hunger varies with severity but in this case it is the
want of food in a third world country. World hunger is a problem that has existed for
much of our known history; it has faded away from central concerns because it is
barely brought up in everyday conversations. World hunger has many aggravating
factors and principal causes, such as insufficient economic systems, misinformation,
climate changes, etc. But the main debilitating factor is povertyas poverty always has
led to people going without regular meals because they cannot afford to eat. There
are vast quantities of people in third world nations and developing countries that are
so impoverished that are in desperate need for food. Whether a country is rich or
poor, there are always tremendous numbers of people dealing with poverty and
hunger. Perhaps most disheartening is the cruel reality that most of the victims are
young children. Hunger is a very serious issue that cannot easily be remedied.
As a matter of fact, people all over the world mainly concentrated in developing
countries die because of hunger and starvation on a daily basis. With the growth of
population, the number of hungry people also increases at a disproportionate rate.
All The President s Men
Director Alan J. Pakula hit the nail on the head with his film, All the President s
Men, which does a fantastic job portraying the events of the Watergate scandal.
Filmed in 1976, the movie encompasses the story of reporters Bob Woodward
(Robert Redford) and Carl Bernstein (Dustin Hoffman) from The Washington Post
as they try to uncover vital details about the scandal. To keep an engaging audience,
Pakula starts his film off with an eerie and controversial scene that portrays a guard
ripping off a piece of tape that has been placed in between the door frame.
The film does a great job of realistically retelling the events of the Watergate scandal.

All the President s Men tends to make a huge deal about reporting, alter facts and
leave out a few crucial people within the scandal investigation. With proper
background knowledge and further research into the Watergate scandal, the
viewer is able to tell that there are some brief exaggerations. Similar to the film s
reporters, in today s world, news reporters are always trying to get the next best
story. They will do anything and everything possible to get the truth behind a hot
story. Many famous people now a days can t walk a few steps without being
bombarded by the media. Everything celebrities say or do is noted by the media
and usually gets leaked to the public very quickly. In comparison to the time period
and media of the 70 s, in today s world we are able to pretty much get any
information on almost anyone at any given time. The levels of privacy have gone
down due to the media engagement and the advancement of technology. The
activeness of today s media can be similar to that of the five thief s trying to place
recording devices in the Democratic Party s headquarters. With every news story,
any piece of information can be blown out of proportion and altered to appeal to a
bigger audience. This is just a mere effect from the ever changing world we live in

The Cross And The Switchblade By David Wilkerson
In his book, The Cross and the Switchblade, David Wilkerson explains how his
ministry started. Over 15 million people have read his book which was published
in 1962 through The Berkley Publishing Group, and in 1969, his book became a
Hollywood motion picture that reached over 50 million people. Wilkerson did not
stop at this book. In fact, he continued to write over 30 more books.
(Worldchallenge.org, 2014, pg. 1) With that said, The Cross and the Switchblade s
thesis statement is that the Holy Spiritis in charge. David Wilkerson, a country
preacher from Pennsylvania, is the founder of Teen Challenge. This organization
started in 1958 and still runs today as a ministry to save those with habits that are
life controlling. Teen Challenge has become one of the most effective ways to
reach out to teenagers and young adults who are dealing with issues related to
gangs, drugs, and alcohol. However, the road to success was very challenging for
Wilkerson and his team. (Worldchallenge.org, 2014, pg. 1) Anyone who picks up
The Cross and the Switchblade is Wilkerson s potential audience. He wrote this
book in order to share his journey of starting the ministry that we now call Teen
Challenge. Most likely, Pentecostals will read this story. Even so, this book can also
be an instrument in salvation for others. I believe that Wilkerson understood both of
these statements and, thus, wrote his book in such a way to minister to all peoples.

Deutsche Telekom Telecommunications Company Essay
Introduction
The essence of the Deutsche Telekom brand, its slogan Life is for sharing is in
equal measure its brand promise to customers. Based on a simple concept, this
promise embodies the corporate vision behind the brand: Life consists of a number
of major and minor personal events that people want to share with one another
because they make life exciting. And Telekom offers the products and services that
can make this happen. Customers should be given easy access to these worlds of
experience in every possible way via the telephone, Internet, Internet TV or cloud

PEST Analysis
In term of external environment, DEUTSCHE TELEKOM is also influenced by the
general, industry, and competitor environments. The general environment is
composed of elements in the boarder society that influence an industry and the firms
within it. These elements can be characterized into six elements: demographic, politic
/legal, sociocultural, technological, and global. However, only certain elements are
related to DEUTSCHE TELEKOM, there are:
Political
If we look at the political environment, Telekom Equipment is on the safe side since it
is publicly owned and thus protected by government.
In term of political preferences, what might happened is that DEUTSCHE
TELEKOM gets threat of from new entrants such as, Clarnet telecommunication,
Freenet telecommunication and Agitr telecommunication. It meaning to say that,
right now there are substitution products and services in term of telecommunication
only and this will be the intensity of rivalry among competitors. So it directly
influences DEUTSCHE TELEKOM and its competitive actions and responses.
Therefore, the challenge is to locate a position within an industry where DEUTSCHE
TELEKOM can influence these factors or where it can successfully defend against
their influence. This can be done by providing broader products and service such as,
offering tailor made Total Solutions from the latest IT and telecommunication

Using the scale of the moon and details of the surface of the planet, it was
successfully communicated how far the ship was from the ground. This sequence
could have easily been shot straightforward and would lack any excitement or
dynamic. Johnston successfully create an interesting sequence through varying the
camera height and angle throughout the decent. The light colored Millennium Falcon
is always overlapping with some part of the dark void of space in each frame,
causing it to be the focal point of all shots. The texture of the planet becomes more
recognizable as the ship moves closer to the surface, communicating the changing
distance between the ship and the planet. In addition to lack of surface detail in the
first 4 frames, the shape repetition changes from circular to organic and abstract. This
is a successful sequence due to the use of shape, value, and detail to communicate to
the viewer the story of the Millennium Falcon landing on a planet.
Two different sequences of two frames each, use similar techniques to communication
the story. Both sequences use the framing element of foreground environment and
foreground figures to push focus to what characters are looking at in the middle and
backgrounds.
In the top set, the figures are looking at the vehicle in the bottom right corner of the
first panel. The camera is then taken closer to the vehicle to introduce the character
driving it; Luke Skywalker, the
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hearing Aids
Hearing is a major and important sense in our lives which is why we have to take
care of our hearing. Many people are deaf and it can be caused by many different
factors that can affect the hearing strength of a person or individual, which is why
hearing aids were invented. Over the past two centuries hearing aids went through a
great development and we are still using the outcomes of it till today they provide us
with many advantages, but as you know where there are advantages there are
disadvantages. They can benefit us with better hearing for those who can t hear very
well.
The people who can t hear either partly or whole have deafness which can be defined
as the inability to hear either partly or entirely. Deafness is divided into three main
types which are conductive deafness, which means that sound cannot flow freely into
the middle ear. The second type is Sensorineural deafness which means that there is a
problem in the auditory nerve or the cochlea. And finally the neural deafness, which
means that there is no auditory nerve. It is important to specify if a child has
deafness or hearing loss or even a toddler because the sooner anything ... Show more

Another way to treat deafness to a degree is using hearing aids which work as an
amplifier for the sound it receives and sends it into the brain. And for those who
don t have hearing problems it is still beneficial to protect your hearing from being
damaged, you can do this by not exposing yourselves to loud noises and even
music to protect your hair cells from washing away. Also if you work in a place or be
at a place with loud noises make sure you have hearing protection to reduce the noise

Examples Of Unrequited Love In Twelfth Night
Many describe unrequited love as a bee sting. At first nature blinds you with it s
beauty, but suddenly it strikes out and pain overwhelms you, feelings of betrayal and
distrust linger. In William Shakespeare s 1600s comedic play Twelfth Night, Olivia
portrays how the rejection in unrequited love leads to violence and obsession,
thereby, causing an individual to act irrational and vindictive.
Unrequited love often causes desperation and one sided devotion. Olivia experiences
unrequited love directly and indirectly. When Olivia asks herself Even so quickly
may one catch the plague? Shakespeare uses this metaphor to compare love and the
plague, making it seem detrimental and perilous (I.v.301). This warns the audience
that love can cause serious problems which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One can observe Orsino s love for Olivia as obsessive. Orsino s first words If music
be the food of love, play on, introduce him as a love sick character whose mind
revolves around a woman who does not return his feelings (I.i.1). Olivia constantly
populates his mind and he does not cease his pursuit for her love, even after she
expresses distaste towards him. Shakespeare mocks love sick individuals for acting
like fools and putting themselves through misery. After learning of Olivia s marriage,
Orsino realizes he has lost her and lashes out at Cesario. He threatens him by
stating I ll sacrifice the lamb I do love to spite a raven s heart within a dove (V.i.33
34). Shakespeare uses Orsino s love for Olivia to differentiate between good and
bad love. Unrequited love can cause an individual to pursue violent actions in blind
rage. Orsino shows how love is consuming, crippling, and hinders the ability to live
out life.Orsino believes his love for Olivia is true, but he is actually in love with the
idea of love, and believes he can only obtain it from Olivia. Shakespeare tries to
inform the audiences that they could mistakenly believe they are in

Visions and conversions are both a type of religious experience it s a subjective
experience where an individual reports contact with a supernatural reality, an
encounter or union with the divine, Religious experiences are preoccupied by
extraordinary psychological state and no one can give real evidence about it.
According to William James, a 20th century philosopher; every religious experience
has four characteristics. Ineffability, meaning that these experiences can t be
expressed or it is challenging to express them; people often gain an insight or they
learn something from the experience of how to carry on with their life. Transiency,...

An intellectual vision causes the person to become aware of an abstract concept such
as the grace of God a numinous experience. These are often followed by a sense of
inner peace or a call toward religious life.
A conversion experience is one in which the goal is to change one set of beliefs.
This process is called a double action; this is because one must turn away from a
previous lifestyle and turn to a new state of being. The development of conversion
can be a sudden experience or a gradual one and the end result is usually a greater
understanding of faith. People may convert for several reasons; It may be about
years of searching for a spiritual home, or about a moment of inspiration that has
caught them by surprise; sometimes it involves the pain of breaking away from a
previous path, a sense of loneliness and wrestling with doubt. Some may say that a
conversion takes place when one s identity is perceived to be inadequate and so
they move to being in a state when adequacy is met, and the knew life they start is a
holy one. There are four main stages identified which can lead to a conversion
experience; a prior interest in religious questions and other related issues, the
influence of other cases of conversion, a situation which may involve physical and
emotional upset, and the moment of conversion which brings about a radical change
in feeling and outlook of the persons life. There
Business Etiquette in Japanese Negotiations
Business Etiquette in Japanese Negotiations
The world economy is dependent on trade between countries. As globalization of the
world s economy increases, companies depend on international negotiations to build
strong relationships and extend their services to a larger market. Since World War II,
Japan and the
United States have become dependent on one another s markets to fuel their
economy. Japan is the second largest supplier to the U.S. and the United States is the
largest supplier of imports to Japan. As a result, companies strive to teach Japanese
business etiquette to their international negotiators.
International negotiators encounter many cultural differences when they are
conducting business in Japan. In addition to language ... Show more content on

Presentations should be well organized and offered in both oral and written formats.
The language barrier makes it difficult for the Japanese to comprehend everything at
one time.
Presenting them with written information gives them the opportunity to review what
was said so they fully understand your proposal. They will appreciate your
thoughtfulness and acknowledge that you have taken time to fully prepare for the
meeting.1
Next, business in Japan is often conducted in organized groups. The
Japanese are uncomfortable working with single individuals and consider the size of
your group a reflection of how important the business meeting is. In addition, it is
recommended that you keep the same groups throughout the business deal because
again, the Japanese want to build long term relationships with their associates. They
will not be accepting of new comers.
The Japanese will place a lot of emphasis on how you are dressed and what gifts you
bring. When deciding what to pack for the business trip, negotiators should keep in
mind that the American business casual style is not acceptable in Japan. Both men
and women should dress conservatively avoiding bright colors and fancy accessories.
Gaudiness is looked down upon in Japan. Women should not wear pants in a business
situation. Japanese men tend to find it offensive.
Recreational activities such as golf are a typical occurrence in the business world.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Todd Hill

Public speaking is not for the faint of heart, it is a nerve wracking experience full of
anxiety and fear of public judgment. These are some common thoughts among
students enrolled in RCM 401 Oral Rhetoric. With the application of theory,
continued practice, and constructive feedback from peers, these opinions are likely to
change as they increase their knowledge of oral rhetoric and look for ways to sharpen
their public speaking skills. Todd Thorn is a strong example of a peer of oral

It s a cold and snowy winter day, imagine yourself inside my new subaru cruising
down I90 towards Snoqualmie. You re so relaxed from the comfy heated seats that
you feel not a single care in the world. Even though the skies are heavy with snow
and the roads hidden from sight by ice, I too feel relaxed, thanks to the AWD
system that all Subarus have. We go over a sheet of ice and begin to slide, with just
a touch of throttle and help from the AWD system I correct the slide. You continue
to lie in your seat like nothing ever happened. I glance over to the other side of the
road and feel my stomach get heavy, a semi truckis sliding towards us. I look over to
you, you know exactly what i m thinking in my head. We close our eyes and have the

idea, but I have proved myself a capable and responsible driver. I also know we
already have a car, but me using it would be an unwise decision. Our current car
(actually a truck) is very unsafe and unfit for my needs. Safety is one of the utmost
priorities people look for in a car, parents especially. Subaruhas one of the highest
brand safety/crash test ratings of any brand. A safe vehicle also means it s cheap to
insure which will also save money. Subaru is also known for great reliability which
could pay for itself. Because all Subarus come standard with AWD, we could go
Religion As Refuted By Scripture
Why is faith and works such a controversial issue for many? This topic, while
absolutely settled by Scripture, is one that every Christian must be prepared to teach
the truth on. This is because some arguments that oppose the Biblical definition of
faith seem to be valid, but can be clearly refuted by the truth that is found in the Bible
. In class today, some of those arguments were mentioned, and they were then
refuted by the clear confines of sound doctrine. Many today have the faith only type
of belief in regards to its importance to salvation. This belief, in essence, says, If one
wants to be saved, counted as righteous, or faithful to God, all they need is an only
mental, non physical, and simple faith (or belief) in God in order

Tragedy And Naturalism In Knowles A Separate Peace
Upon finishing the tragic, yet alluring tale that is A Separate Peace by Jonathan
Knowles, I had to sit down and process the ending for about a half hour. To be quite
honest, I had a hard time comprehending some of the small details. Thorough
research led me to an understanding of how the title relates to the novel itself.
Throughout the novel, Knowles conveys a sense of tragedy and naturalism within
the portrayal of Gene s flashback. Event after event, the coming of age storyline
produces more evidence of the protagonist achieving his ultimate goal: a separate
peace. The peace that Gene refers to throughout the book was not what I perceived it
to be in the beginning; the commotion of the war has brought chaos into Gene s life

Yet, in the end, we find a conclusion that pieces together every one of Gene s
actions, and reveals another hidden meaning (this story is full of them). During
their final conversation, Finny expresses to Gene how he in fact did try to enlist,
but was rejected due to his disability. Gene, dumbfounded by this new meaning
behind Finny s conspiracy theory, goes on to say how Finny is not suited for war.
Yet, he is not just speaking about the war, but about reality. Finny was ill prepared
for the adult world, and life itself. Through every childish action that got him to his
state in the infirmary, Gene had only been inadvertently warning us the readers of
Finny s inevitable demise. The harmony was obtained from his death because
people like Finny are not supposed to exist in the real world, because they are too
good for it. Somehow, we can say he was supposed to die; it was logical for the
story to end like this. With a war going on, Finny managed to establish an
exuberance that was intoxicating for the others, and with it, peace returned to the
boys at Devon. Few relationships at Devon are not based on rivalry Gene makes
this clear to us which is why he s so flabbergasted when Finny surrenders from the
competition. Phineas, with his fantasies and lack of experience, is on a higher,
separate plane from us. Either he will be corrupted by this world or be destroyed by
it, and we find
The 1947 Roswell Crash Essay
In 1947, an unidentified flying object crashed into the small town of Roswell, New
Mexico. The United States Air Force published a report in 1994. So why do
conspiracists still believe an alien crashed into Roswell? After a hot humid day in
July 1947, severe and violent thunderstorms filled the night sky. Long time farmer,
Mac Brazel was used to thunder, and storms out in the country. Although something
about this night was different. He heard an extremely loud crash, though didn t think
much of it. The next morning however, Brazel stumbled upon the debris of a strange
object on his farm. Brazel brought some of the material to a nearby neighbor who
urged him to report his find in hopes of getting a reward. Brazel informed the sheriff

A nurse friend of Dennis confides in him that she was called by doctors to assist in
an alien autopsy. Even though she is sworn to secrecy, she must confide in
someone. She meets Dennis and draws him a sketch of what she observed during
the alien autopsy . Strangely enough, she was transferred from the funeral home
shortly after and never heard from again. The news of the crash soon starts to fade
away, and within the end of the year disappears from the news altogether. Nearly
30 years later, in 1978, Stanton Friedman was prompted to revisit the crash.
Stanton Friedman was an unemployed scientist, and a part time UFO lecturer. On
February 12, 1978 Friedman interviewed a man over the phone who said he
handled the wreckage of a crashed spaceship, but the man, Major Jesse Marcel,
couldn t remember the month or even the year of the event. Marcel expressed that
he believed the military had covered up the recovery of an alien spacecraft.
Approximately one year later, William Moore, a colleague of Friedman, found
newspaper clippings of the even that Marcel referred to. The research that Friedman
and Moore uncovered has made the Roswell crash the most celebrated case in the
literature of UFOs. In February of 1980, the National Inquirer ran the interview of
Marcel and Friedman bringing in national and worldwide attention
Capacity Planning Using Linear Programming
Company R s Strategic Capacity Planning
Using Mixed Integer Linear Programming
ABSTRACT
Company R is experiencing 2.07 more days in producing a certain line of hotdogs.
Thus, incurring 51.75% more cost of Php 5, 764. 62 per week.
Through work sampling and time study, it was found out that the sealing section of
the packaging line is the bottle neck activity with a standard processing time of 2.86
min/kg. Additional machine is needed.
Employing strategic capacity planning through formulation of mixed integer linear
programming model, to meet the annual demand, the resulting optimal machine
combination was 3: Two single chamber floor model vacuum sealers and one double
chamber floor model vacuum sealer. This gives the maximum net ... Show more

Furthermore, it is desired to formulate a mixed integer linear programming model that
finds the optimal combination of machines and maximizes the net present value of
such project subject to budget, demand, and available machines constraints.
V. SCOPE OF THE PROJECT To maximize the impact of the project, the study
focused on the hotdog line that comprises almost 73% of the demand being
processed every week. Only the packaging line of the hotdog process was dealt
with. Data collected were from the outputs of January 2011 to February 2011.
Future demands for all hotdog lines were gathered. The company set policies for
acquiring and maintaining equipment were also considered. VI. REVIEW OF
RELATED WORKS AND LITERATURE
According to Anderson et al, linear programming framework has served many
applications in a wide variety of production, finance, marketing, and distribution
problems. The authors added that linear programming models can help managers in
efficiently maximizing profits or minimizing costs when faced with constrained
resource allocation decisions.
Several applications of linear programming in the business are scheduling,
transportation, managerial and cost accounting. Profit oriented companies greatly
evaluate capital investments they are to shelf out, since miscalculations will incur
great damage to them and so the more efficient LP models are used. Most
applications are
Freshman Application Essay
There have been many factors that have contributed to me being a freshman at
Umass this year. They ranged from my grades to the influences from people around
me. Now that I made a list about different contexts I can now see how everything
might be connected. The overlaying things that had the a real effect on my outcome
as a now freshman at Umass Amherst. The contexts that I layed out for myself gave
me a better understanding of what some of the specifics were. Two points that stood
out to me was my educationand Nationality. Being a collegefreshman at Umass is
due largely to how both of these contexts interacted with each other. Having a solid
educational foundation is important to get into any college. I was lucky enough to

I was able to push myself to strive to become the best student that I could be. My
highschool also did a great job to prepare me for the application process. If I had
not had all these helpful tools with application, I may have stressed out about
certain things and possibly not have gotten into Umass. My highschool had many
seniors choose to go to Umass, so it was one of the big schools being talked about
when I was applying. I did not know too much about what colleges I wanted to
apply to, but since Umass was being talked about so much, it really influenced my
application decision. Another huge factor for why I am a freshman at UMass is
my age. I am currently 19 years old and if I was any older or younger I would not be
the freshman that I am right now. This context is very important because unless I
was very smart for my age, or decided to come back to college in my later years, there
is no way that I would be where I am right now. Another part about my age is the
generation that I belong to. In this day and age you are expected to go to college
and get an education from some type of

Satanic Image
Satanic Image is a charcoal drawing created by French artist Odilon Redon in 1885.
It displays a darkened figure looking down and to the left with a displeased
expression. Giving a first glance at the drawing, one is struck with stark contrast
between the dark and light provided by the charcoal. This is a key element that is
intended to symbolize this emergence of evil. The piece itself shows the titular
figure rising out of a darkened pool of a background into one that is more lit and
revealing, highlighting a disconnect between what can be perceived as a darkness
below and heavens above. As the figure begins its rise from the abyss, one can
observe features becoming more and more profound. Broad shoulders become clearly
separated and
Sop Statement Of Purpose For Chemical Engineering
Statement of Purpose For me, the allure of Chemical Engineering lies in its inter
disciplinary bent; Physics, Chemistry, Biology and even the Social Sciences are
comfortably accommodated in its embrace. When I worked on the project of a
reaction of K2MnO4 and glycerine that produce a tremendous amount of energy
during a laboratory experiment in my 12th standard, but during the course of the
experiment. I started to have a question in my mind how can I channelise this
energy and use to carry forward another endothermic reaction instead of heating it
with a bunsen burner. There is one more instance when I was building a galvanic
cell that was catering my heating filament and I asked my guide why can t we avert

But for me to make a concrete statement without making some hit and trails, I felt I
lacked the expertise to establish a minuscule plots and pareto graphs into projects
that offered answers. I feel that being an engineer by vocation it is in our gene to
optically canvass a thing and contemplate how to make it run better. If that path to
progress was not persuaded then there is nothing you are delivering as an engineer.
So a feeling of incompleteness commenced coming back to me, that somehow I
was not fulfilling the role that I promised myself when I was puerile and dreamy of
making a difference at college.I strongly believe that for any process the integrity
of its efficiency in all forms starting from the resources utilization to cost to energy.
This reminds me that during a national level fest conducted at NIT Warangal we
were asked to design a heat exchanger with limited surface area and several other
parameters like volume and any medium of our choice between the chambers where
most people were going for metal powders starting from aluminium to copper I
evaluated the costly and thought that the project is never justified if you can not
govern the cost and this made me think and I ended up going with graphite powder
which is both cost effective and better
Ackland Art Museum Essay
The Ackland Art Museum s new exhibition takes visitors through an experience
that simulates the chaos, fear and disorientation of war. The Flash of Light, Fog of
War: Japanese Military Prints, 1894 1905 comprises over 240 prints. The
woodblock prints depict images of the First Sino Japanese War and the Russo
Japanese War. The exhibition opened on Oct. 6 and will be available for viewing
until Jan. 7. They were recently given to the Ackland as a gift, and this exhibition
basically shows that collection, American studies doctoral candidate Trista Reisporter
said at the Ackland to a group of media writing students Tuesday afternoon. The
exhibition is focused on the visual effects and the war technologies that appear in the
prints, Reisporter said. These visual effects include: moonlight, searchlight, smoke,
fog and pyrotechnics. Several war technologies are depicted in these prints. Electric
searchlights, steel warships and long range ammunition, are a few of the war
inventions shown in the prints. These inventions were new during the Russo
Japanese War and the First Sino Japanese War... Show more content on

The first piece in the exhibition is Okura Koto s The Great Naval Battle outside
the Harbor of Port Arthur: The Great Victory of Our Forces on the Early Dawn of
March 10, 1904 . The print is comprised of 6 pages and depicts a naval battle
between Japanese and Russian forces in the Russo Japanese War. We start with
this one, said Reisporter, because it brings a lot of these ideas and these visual
aesthetics together. Two other techniques were used in creating the print: gofun and
bokashi. Bokashi is the gradient effect created by the ink during printing, and gofun
is a pigment made of calcified oyster shells used to create snow or fog, Reisporter
said. Gofun was used to create the snowflakes, and the bokashi was used to create the
moonlight and smoke in Koto s

They captured and killed many individuals as well as families, then sent them on approximately a two month long and snowy journey to Canada. One family in particular was a prime target of the Mohawks. John Williams, the Reverend of Deerfield, was married with five children. He and his family were targeted because of his value and importance to the community. Deerfield was holding a French man by the name of Captain Baptiste, who was of equal value and importance; therefore, Williams was needed to make a trade for this man.1 Eventually, Williams was able to provide... • 5. Pros And Cons Of Chemical Castration For centuries, society has said, the punishment should fit the crime, but at what point do we reach a line we aren t willing to cross. Sexual assault is a serious problem we are faced with every day, and it does not discriminate between men, women, or children. In fact, every 98 seconds, someone is sexually assaulted in America and every 8th minute of that, the victim is a child. Mandatory chemical castrationin convicted sex offenders is a debate that has long been analyzed and attacked from both sides and each have shown to offer valid points, but the deterrence and recidivism rates have proven that rendering a sexual offender impotent with chemical castration is more effective than prison, can free the offender of unwanted sexual urges, and shows we take this issue seriously by putting the victims rights above the predator. When considering the pros and cons of effectiveness between chemical castration vs prison, studies performed have given us ample choices to discuss in favor of castration. At the very top of that list, we have money. Who doesn t love to save a dollar here and there? Or a few thousand, to be exact. On average, it costs tax payers in the United States, $51,286 a year to house an inmate in prison, with the most expensive state being California, costing north of $80,000. On the other hand, chemical castration costs approximately $9,000 a year for testosterone lowering drugs and funding is the sole responsibility of the offender. What if they refuse to pay for the medication or are financially incapable of it, you ask? Even when paired with the necessary psychological treatment, the drug program for a sex offender would still cost less than half for tax payers than prison housing. Furthermore, we can prove the effectiveness of castration thanks to studies conducted and documented over decades on recidivism. One performed out of a California maximum security prison, observed 260 convicted sexual predators once released. They were divided into two groups; medicated and non treated, and then divided into two sub groups; rapists, and child molesters. Treatment results varied based on the type of sexual offender, but the one consistency to the study was that in both groups, the rate of
  • 6. Self-Identity And Self Identity Self identity is molded as a young age, but continues to change as we get older. This is something that we all do not realize. During a person s lifetime many of us pause to think what influence a person s identity. What makes us the individual that we are? I would say that it is our home, where we live with our parents and siblings. Why do we have trust in certain things? Why do we believe the way we do? I would say it is based on the way we were taught and raised a set of opinions that have been instilled in a person since they were young. I would say that their three great influences in my life that makes me who I am today my parents, my religion and my culture. Upbringing it has molded me into who I am today. Since I was growing up my parents taught me about showing respect to everyone especially our superiors. My parents always taught us that being a good citizen in your community always identifies the individual as a good person. My parents taught us that when two adults are having a conversation to never interrupt. When someone was talking and if you needed to walk through you would say excuse me. Never stealing what does not belong to you. Helping a person out when they do not have a place to stay. How to have patience with other people and learning that sometimes the best thing to do is just to be quiet. An example I can say that I went through as I was growing up I was 10 years old when we had several family members move in to live with us and this is where

In regards to time commitment with their athletic team, that can be a full time job in itself. Not to mention the academic commitment that should come before athletic in the first place. Because college student athletes bring so much to the table in their commitments, there has been an increased discussion on if college athletes should be paid. With increasing controversy of the topic, college athletes should ultimately be paid because they are the cause for high revenue streams of colleges, it would limit illegal or under the table payments, and because they make significant sacrifices that deserve... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Johnson and Acquaviva make the point that between weight training sessions, film room, practice, individual workouts, travel, and finally competition, these student athletes cannot feel much like students. (Brill 7) This further validates the point that college athletes should be paid if they are spending so much time on athletics, and helping the school earn money along the way. If college athletes were paid, it would motivate them competitively as well because the revenue the program brings in is partially based off performance for signing TV deals and getting bids to postseason games that earn more money for the school. The more successful a team is, the more money they will be able to negotiate for in TV deals and the more likely they get bids to play in post season games to generate extra revenue. Universities also make a fortune off of selling Since the players are the source for this revenue by playing in these games, they would be even more competitively driven to perform their very best because as a result they would get paid more money and generate more money for the school at the same time. A win win scenario for both the student athletes and their respective universities. Many of these college student athletes come from low income homes as well. The argument could be made that if the university is able to help these athletes families with a form of pay without making significant sacrifice, then they

The owners showed that they need to improve their understanding of how organizational change should occur to produce positive outcomes (Spector, 2010, p. 2). As the Concord owner s previous hands off approach to management of the store is shown by the long work histories of managers and staff. They did not create an atmosphere that was conductive to any changes (Borkowski, 2005, p. 384 385). In this case as there was no instilling a vision of the necessity of the change it lead to failure. The owners sought to skip the first stage of the change process that would have helped the employees to help understand the need for the second process of change (Borkowski, 2005, p. 385). Rather than the owners understanding the reason for following the change process in bringing in a new general manager it eradicated the special considerations that had made the store unique. One employee who quit after working there 18 years had a hard time understanding how the dispute got out of hand but by the old staff leaving the store just becomes bookshelves and carpets (Spector, 2010, p. 3). In limiting the chance of employees working to develop new skills and competencies by participating in deciding how the store would be run the owners ensured that the change would occur but fail. Conclusion The Concord Bookstore organizational change case looks to be a case of where the owners are trying to save a business struggling but fail in this effort. This paper shows their

  • 11. The Intellectual Property The lawyer Gregory T. Victoroff said At its best, sampling benefits society by creating a valuable new contribution to modern music literature. At its worst, sampling is vandalism and stealing . Half way between creativity and plagiarism, sampling is a controversial issue in the music industry and the infringement of copyright. In this assignment I m going to be discussing copyright and intellectual propertyrights in relation to the music industry. The Statute of Anne, was the first form of law that protected intellectual property, invented in the UK in 1709. The ultimate goal of intellectual property law is that human knowledge is increased and made accessible to everyone. Under the umbrella of intellectual property, there are four rights that protect creative works: performers rights, moral rights, trademarks and copyright. This rights need to exist in order to protect artistic integrity and give entitlement to the authors. Intellectual property covers different rights in the creative industries, especially, copyright is the frame that governs all the activities in the music industry. Moral rights are the basis of artistic integrity, as opposed to copyright that gives rights to receive economic reward for the use of a creative work. Moral rights include the right of paternity, which is the right to be identified as the author of the work. False attribution right gives right to not have a work falsely attributed to you. And integrity right, is the right of an author

The main difference between them is that a dial up modem sends and receives data through a fixed telephone line while a wireless modem sends and receives data through radio waves. Like a GSM mobile phone, a GSM modem requires a SIM card from a wireless carrier in order to operate. Generally, computers use AT commands to control modems. Reading of message from the SIM card inserted into the modem is done by sending the appropriate AT command to the modem. In addition to the standard AT commands, GSM modems support an extended set of AT commands. These extended AT commands are defined in the GSM standards. Some common basic SMS related AT Commands are shown in table below: [pic] Fig.2. AT Commands C. Display Unit One of the most common devices attached to an 8051 is an LCD display. • 13. The Olympic Games Of The Games The Olympic games originated in Athens in 776 B.C. The more popular modern day Olympic games began nearly 2300 years later in 1896. The games no longer represented a religious festival, but a sports competition instead. The games can be studied via multiple aspects such as political, social, and economic, but this paper will concentrate on the economic aspect of the games and more specifically, the macroeconomic impacts the games possess. It is evident that hosting the Olympics games is no walk in the park. The countries trusted with this task have to spend billions to make the games a reality. Some people believe that the countries, even after spending billions of dollars benefit from the games, while others believe that the money can be spent elsewhere more efficiently. To reach a conclusion, one must study all of the different impacts in all of the different sectors the games have. London was not the only option when it came to the 2012 summer Olympics. France was also in the running and was actually pretty close to getting the gig. London won the bidding race with 54 50 votes from the International Olympic Committee. The need of some economic spark for London s economy may have been the reason why the vote went their way. London s economy had been stuck in a recession for almost a nine month period. The question was: Are the Olympics going to provide a positive benefit for London s economy? Employment Preparing for the Olympics takes a lot of time, effort and money.
  • 14. Hydraulic Fracking In The Oil And Gas Industry Introduction and Background In the oil and gas industry, fracking is a major current issue that engineers are dealing with for the current state of the United states. Hydraulic fracking, or fracking is the process of drilling a well to the depth in the earth where shale rock is located. Once the drill bit reaches this specific depth, the drilling alters its path to a horizontal track into the shale rock in order to span the entire reservoir. Next, fracking fluid, consisting of sand, liquid chemicals, and water, is injected into the shale rock at a high pressure, which cause small cracks, known as fissures, in the rock. This action allows oil and natural gasto freely escape into the pipeline. The oil and gas mixture then flows to the surface... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also the disposal of the fracking fluid should be regulated in a non harmful way to the environment. Along with many other engineering activities, there are ignorant people that rally against fracking due to the little information they know and their refusal to research the topic before making accusations. Conclusion In conclusion, Fracking is an innovative way to extract oil and gas from shale rock. It differs from conventional drilling from the fact that deeper wells and horizontal drilling are utilized in order to produce more. There are many benefits that accompany fracking, such as increased employment and decreased cost of importation for the US because of their large reserves of shale rock. Fracking does come with some drawbacks, such as environmental issues and fresh water reserves. With future regulations of fracking, the negative environmental effects can be mitigated. Also, additional water purification systems should be implemented at fracking sites in order for excess water to be reused and not disposed. Currently, OPEC has lowered the price to $54 per barrel, which limits fracking because the breakeven price per barrel is $64 ( A key investor s guide to the crude oil market ). When the price per barrel exceeds $64, US will become an exporter rather than importing form outside countries. This will ultimately increase the US

There are risks and precautions to be taken within any specific area of nursing and medicine, but there is certainly something quite obvious about the accountability necessary when working in obstetrics. Gilgamesh s character development is shown throughout the story; he changes from an invincible, fearless king to a king who has accept his mortality and sees his own limitations. Although the quest of Gilgamesh seems to focus on gaining immortality, it works as a bridge to help Gilgamesh accept his mortality and to understand that immortality is not achieved by the length of life, but by the stories that s pass on. In the beginning (beginning of what? the epic? the quest?), Gilgamesh seeks immortality because he wants to live forever. After Gilgamesh witnesses the deathof Enkidu, Gilgamesh becomes afraid of death himself. many direct parallels are shown throughout the story to justify the reasoning behind Gilgamesh s fear of death. Enkidu often acts as an equal companion of Gilgamesh; Gilgamesh is born with a mixture of human and divine, while Enkidu is a mixture of human and wild beast. Although there is a difference in their status, their ability and strength are still the same. Gilgamesh is perfect in strength (Tablet I, Line 36) and Enkidu is the mightiest in the land (I,117). • 19. Importance Of Fuzzy Logic 6.1. IMPORTANCE OF FUZZY LOGIC Fuzzy logic is all about the relative importance of precision: use as Fuzzy Logic Toolbox software with MATLAB technical computing software as a tool for solving problems with fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic is a fascinating area of research because it does a good job of trading off between significance and precision something that humans have been managing for a very long time. In this sense, fuzzy logicis both old and new because, although the modern and methodical science of fuzzy logic is still young, the concept of fuzzy logic relies on age old skills of human reasoning. Fig 6.1 Fuzzy Description 6.2. USAGE OF FUZZY LOGIC Fuzzy logic is a convenient way to map an input space to an output space. Mapping input to output is the starting point for everything. Consider the following examples: With information about how good your service was at a restaurant, a fuzzy logic system can tell you what the tip should be. With your specification of how hot you want the water, a fuzzy logic system can adjust the faucet valve to the right setting. With information about how far away the subject of your photograph is, a fuzzy logic system can focus the lens for you. 49 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clearly the list could go on and on.Of the dozens of ways to make the black box work, it turns out that fuzzy is often the very best way. As Lotfi Zadeh, who is considered to be the father of fuzzy logic, once remarked: In almost every case you can build the same product without fuzzy logic, but fuzzy is faster and
  • 20. The Violence Of The Black Lives Matter By Alicia Garza,... What started off as a tweet turned into a movement and has now become a full on war against police. Many African Americans are outraged by police and want liberation, so they have joined Black Lives Matter in hopes of change. In order to understand the movement, it is important to look at the history, the agenda, and manifesto of this organization. The real questions at matter are what is its purpose of this organization, how it is effecting law enforcement, and how is law enforcement responding. Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi are the creators of the now famous hash tag Black Lives Matter. It was made as a call to action after George Zimmerman was not held accountable for the fatal shooting of teen Trayvon Martin in 2012. This incident was what gave life to the Black Lives Matter movement and has reframed the way Americans perceive police treatments of people of color. It was not until 2014 when it exploded all over social media after a Ferguson police officer killed a young black man named Michael Brown. The book Forces of Deviance: understanding the dark side of policing says, African Americans tend to believe that the police were more corrupt, more unfair, harsher, tougher, less friendly, and crueler than did whites. African Americans generally were more dissatisfied with police service in comparison to the white population (Kappeler, Sluder, Alpert 6). Ferguson was exposed as a case study of structural racism in America and a metaphor for all that

The Problem Of World Hunger Growing up, the commercials of starving children in Africa in need of food because of rampant starvation and the pervasive threat of death have been streaming on various media. World Hunger is one of the main problems that a large portion of the global population faces today. Hunger varies with severity but in this case it is the want of food in a third world country. World hunger is a problem that has existed for much of our known history; it has faded away from central concerns because it is barely brought up in everyday conversations. World hunger has many aggravating factors and principal causes, such as insufficient economic systems, misinformation, climate changes, etc. But the main debilitating factor is povertyas poverty always has led to people going without regular meals because they cannot afford to eat. There are vast quantities of people in third world nations and developing countries that are so impoverished that are in desperate need for food. Whether a country is rich or poor, there are always tremendous numbers of people dealing with poverty and hunger. Perhaps most disheartening is the cruel reality that most of the victims are young children. Hunger is a very serious issue that cannot easily be remedied. As a matter of fact, people all over the world mainly concentrated in developing countries die because of hunger and starvation on a daily basis. With the growth of population, the number of hungry people also increases at a disproportionate rate.

The light colored Millennium Falcon is always overlapping with some part of the dark void of space in each frame, causing it to be the focal point of all shots. The texture of the planet becomes more recognizable as the ship moves closer to the surface, communicating the changing distance between the ship and the planet. In addition to lack of surface detail in the first 4 frames, the shape repetition changes from circular to organic and abstract. This is a successful sequence due to the use of shape, value, and detail to communicate to the viewer the story of the Millennium Falcon landing on a planet. Tin Man by Andrew Arvanetes is for the most part what it sounds like, a tin man. However, when many people think of a tin man they think of two feet, two arms, and a face. This tin man does not have any of that it has two legs with what look to be cement rollers

Tragedy And Naturalism In Knowles A Separate Peace Upon finishing the tragic, yet alluring tale that is A Separate Peace by Jonathan Knowles, I had to sit down and process the ending for about a half hour. To be quite honest, I had a hard time comprehending some of the small details. Thorough research led me to an understanding of how the title relates to the novel itself. Throughout the novel, Knowles conveys a sense of tragedy and naturalism within the portrayal of Gene s flashback. Event after event, the coming of age storyline produces more evidence of the protagonist achieving his ultimate goal: a separate peace. The peace that Gene refers to throughout the book was not what I perceived it to be in the beginning; the commotion of the war has brought chaos into Gene s life as an adolescent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, in the end, we find a conclusion that pieces together every one of Gene s actions, and reveals another hidden meaning (this story is full of them). During their final conversation, Finny expresses to Gene how he in fact did try to enlist, but was rejected due to his disability. Gene, dumbfounded by this new meaning behind Finny s conspiracy theory, goes on to say how Finny is not suited for war. Yet, he is not just speaking about the war, but about reality. Finny was ill prepared for the adult world, and life itself. Through every childish action that got him to his state in the infirmary, Gene had only been inadvertently warning us the readers of Finny s inevitable demise. The harmony was obtained from his death because people like Finny are not supposed to exist in the real world, because they are too good for it. Somehow, we can say he was supposed to die; it was logical for the story to end like this. With a war going on, Finny managed to establish an exuberance that was intoxicating for the others, and with it, peace returned to the boys at Devon. Few relationships at Devon are not based on rivalry Gene makes this clear to us which is why he s so flabbergasted when Finny surrenders from the competition. Phineas, with his fantasies and lack of experience, is on a higher, separate plane from us. Either he will be corrupted by this world or be destroyed by it, and we find

So why do conspiracists still believe an alien crashed into Roswell? After a hot humid day in July 1947, severe and violent thunderstorms filled the night sky. Long time farmer, Mac Brazel was used to thunder, and storms out in the country. Although something about this night was different. He heard an extremely loud crash, though didn t think much of it. The next morning however, Brazel stumbled upon the debris of a strange object on his farm. Brazel brought some of the material to a nearby neighbor who urged him to report his find in hopes of getting a reward. Brazel informed the sheriff ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A nurse friend of Dennis confides in him that she was called by doctors to assist in an alien autopsy. Even though she is sworn to secrecy, she must confide in someone. She meets Dennis and draws him a sketch of what she observed during the alien autopsy . Strangely enough, she was transferred from the funeral home shortly after and never heard from again. The news of the crash soon starts to fade away, and within the end of the year disappears from the news altogether. Nearly 30 years later, in 1978, Stanton Friedman was prompted to revisit the crash. Stanton Friedman was an unemployed scientist, and a part time UFO lecturer. On February 12, 1978 Friedman interviewed a man over the phone who said he handled the wreckage of a crashed spaceship, but the man, Major Jesse Marcel, couldn t remember the month or even the year of the event. Marcel expressed that he believed the military had covered up the recovery of an alien spacecraft. Approximately one year later, William Moore, a colleague of Friedman, found newspaper clippings of the even that Marcel referred to. The research that Friedman and Moore uncovered has made the Roswell crash the most celebrated case in the literature of UFOs. In February of 1980, the National Inquirer ran the interview of Marcel and Friedman bringing in national and worldwide attention

Capacity Planning Using Linear Programming Company R s Strategic Capacity Planning Using Mixed Integer Linear Programming ABSTRACT Company R is experiencing 2.07 more days in producing a certain line of hotdogs. Thus, incurring 51.75% more cost of Php 5, 764. 62 per week. Through work sampling and time study, it was found out that the sealing section of the packaging line is the bottle neck activity with a standard processing time of 2.86 min/kg. Additional machine is needed. Employing strategic capacity planning through formulation of mixed integer linear programming model, to meet the annual demand, the resulting optimal machine combination was 3: Two single chamber floor model vacuum sealers and one double chamber floor model vacuum sealer. Furthermore, it is desired to formulate a mixed integer linear programming model that finds the optimal combination of machines and maximizes the net present value of such project subject to budget, demand, and available machines constraints. V. SCOPE OF THE PROJECT To maximize the impact of the project, the study focused on the hotdog line that comprises almost 73% of the demand being processed every week. Only the packaging line of the hotdog process was dealt with. Data collected were from the outputs of January 2011 to February 2011. Future demands for all hotdog lines were gathered. The company set policies for acquiring and maintaining equipment were also considered. VI. REVIEW OF RELATED WORKS AND LITERATURE According to Anderson et al, linear programming framework has served many applications in a wide variety of production, finance, marketing, and distribution problems. The authors added that linear programming models can help managers in efficiently maximizing profits or minimizing costs when faced with constrained resource allocation decisions. Several applications of linear programming in the business are scheduling, transportation, managerial and cost accounting. Profit oriented companies greatly evaluate capital investments they are to shelf out, since miscalculations will incur great damage to them and so the more efficient LP models are used. Now that I made a list about different contexts I can now see how everything might be connected. The overlaying things that had the a real effect on my outcome as a now freshman at Umass Amherst. The contexts that I layed out for myself gave me a better understanding of what some of the specifics were. Two points that stood out to me was my educationand Nationality. Being a collegefreshman at Umass is due largely to how both of these contexts interacted with each other. Having a solid educational foundation is important to get into any college. My highschool also did a great job to prepare me for the application process. If I had not had all these helpful tools with application, I may have stressed out about certain things and possibly not have gotten into Umass. My highschool had many seniors choose to go to Umass, so it was one of the big schools being talked about when I was applying. I did not know too much about what colleges I wanted to apply to, but since Umass was being talked about so much, it really influenced my application decision. Another huge factor for why I am a freshman at UMass is my age. I am currently 19 years old and if I was any older or younger I would not be the freshman that I am right now. This context is very important because unless I was very smart for my age, or decided to come back to college in my later years, there is no way that I would be where I am right now. Another part about my age is the generation that I belong to. In this day and age you are expected to go to college and get an education from some type of

  • 45. Satanic Image Satanic Image is a charcoal drawing created by French artist Odilon Redon in 1885. It displays a darkened figure looking down and to the left with a displeased expression. Giving a first glance at the drawing, one is struck with stark contrast between the dark and light provided by the charcoal. This is a key element that is intended to symbolize this emergence of evil. The piece itself shows the titular figure rising out of a darkened pool of a background into one that is more lit and revealing, highlighting a disconnect between what can be perceived as a darkness below and heavens above. As the figure begins its rise from the abyss, one can observe features becoming more and more profound. Broad shoulders become clearly separated and

When I worked on the project of a reaction of K2MnO4 and glycerine that produce a tremendous amount of energy during a laboratory experiment in my 12th standard, but during the course of the experiment. I started to have a question in my mind how can I channelise this energy and use to carry forward another endothermic reaction instead of heating it with a bunsen burner. But for me to make a concrete statement without making some hit and trails, I felt I lacked the expertise to establish a minuscule plots and pareto graphs into projects that offered answers. I feel that being an engineer by vocation it is in our gene to optically canvass a thing and contemplate how to make it run better. If that path to progress was not persuaded then there is nothing you are delivering as an engineer. So a feeling of incompleteness commenced coming back to me, that somehow I was not fulfilling the role that I promised myself when I was puerile and dreamy of making a difference at college.I strongly believe that for any process the integrity of its efficiency in all forms starting from the resources utilization to cost to energy. The Flash of Light, Fog of War: Japanese Military Prints, 1894 1905 comprises over 240 prints. The woodblock prints depict images of the First Sino Japanese War and the Russo Japanese War. The exhibition opened on Oct. 6 and will be available for viewing until Jan. 7. They were recently given to the Ackland as a gift, and this exhibition basically shows that collection, American studies doctoral candidate Trista Reisporter said at the Ackland to a group of media writing students Tuesday afternoon. The exhibition is focused on the visual effects and the war technologies that appear in the prints, Reisporter said. These visual effects include: moonlight, searchlight, smoke, fog and pyrotechnics. Several war technologies are depicted in these prints. Electric searchlights, steel warships and long range ammunition, are a few of the war inventions shown in the prints. The first piece in the exhibition is Okura Koto s The Great Naval Battle outside the Harbor of Port Arthur: The Great Victory of Our Forces on the Early Dawn of March 10, 1904 . The print is comprised of 6 pages and depicts a naval battle between Japanese and Russian forces in the Russo Japanese War. We start with this one, said Reisporter, because it brings a lot of these ideas and these visual aesthetics together. Two other techniques were used in creating the print: gofun and bokashi. Bokashi is the gradient effect created by the ink during printing, and gofun is a pigment made of calcified oyster shells used to create snow or fog, Reisporter said. Gofun was used to create the snowflakes, and the bokashi was used to create the moonlight and smoke in Koto s
