Chemistry Investigation on Fuels
1.0Abstract
The purpose of this investigation is to explore how much energy is stored in different types of
fuels and see which one would be better to purchase for a camping trip. The process that was
used to find this was called calorimetery and the results from this were compared to the price per
milliliter for each fuel. The fuel that was the best to purchase over all was deemed to be Ethanol.
Ethanol was the alcohol fuel that held the highest amount of energy compared to the price and had
the highest rating compared with the other fuels. The other fuels tested which were; Pentanol, 4
methyl 2 Pentanol and Octanol.

Mirroring prevalent play area tunes ( One, two, clasp my shoe ), Harlem Hopscotch uses a
consistent abab rhyme plan and seven syllable line to demonstrate the ordinary hardships of
numerous in the area. Angelou utilized rhyme in her own particular life to defeat incredible
battles: when she was eight years of age, her mom s sweetheart assaulted her and was executed not
long after. Angelou thought her voice had executed the man and wound up quiet for a long time.
Amid that time, she read and remembered verse by Edgar Allan Poe, Anne Spencer, and Frances

Assistive Technology And Eportfolios Can Pair Well Assist...
Assistive technology and ePortfolios can pair well to assist disabled students and help create and
maintain an environment for learning that will promote respect for and appreciation of human
diversity. As time and technology goes on there have been great strides in integrating the blind into
society on a basis of equality, ensuring full access to information technology and resources. College
or university students with disabilities could use the ePortfolio to showcase their characteristics of
their learning strengths, styles, and needs. An ePortfolio made accessible to the visually impaired
student could participate along with other students as a team member in an inclusive environment
for a class project, a senior capstone or any other use of the digital portfolio. Just like any other
student, an ePortfolio that equips the visually impaired through assistive technology can be a
valuable tool in conveying that student s interests and abilities. As assistive technology improves
and various multimodal technologies integrate, an ePortfolio can create opportunities for students
with disabilities. There are currently several accessibility issues facing digital portfolio projects for
disabled students and the need for better technical support, and according to Oswal (2013), besides
ensuring the accessibility of the ePortfolio system, making use of only accessible tools for content
development is central to disabled students success with their portfolio projects. Once

The Devastating Effects Of Hurricane Sandy
Hurricane Sandy Hurricane Sandy was a devastating storm that affected Countries in the
Caribbean as well as the Eastern Seaboard of the United States in late October 2012. From
Florida to Maine, sensors along the coast measured the storm surge, and the accompanying
winds felt as far inland as Michigan and Wisconsin. The pinnacle of its life it was a Category 3
storm while crossing Cuba, soon after it downgraded to a Category 1 storm. It climaxed once
more as a Category 2 hurricane and the winds covering over 1,000 miles across the diameter.
Even though the storm was not as strong as it could have been, the effects were severe due to the
location of where it made landfall. When Sandy made landfall, New York and New Jersey received

Argumentative Essay Revision Shot to aim directly at people who tend to disregard warnings
and are most like to be distracted drivers, texting and driving PSA s bring awareness and self
consciousness to the general public as they display from moderate to severe graphic scenes on
what happens when you take your eyes off of the wheel. A distracted drivingPSA ad is not only one
of the best ways to alert people of the consequences of unfocused driving, but it can also reduce
the number of distracted driving incidents, thus keeping families not only careful and alert, but
alive and safe. In the last 5 years, the number of people who have watched safe driving PSA s has

According to TODAY, advertising executive Donny Deutsch admitted: It s one thing to

get through this [ad]. The shock these ads have left on people is solid proof PSA s are the absolute
best way to keep people informed and aware of the consequences of distracted driving. But of
course, PSA s don t just shake people awake. Back in 2009, the Field family their friends suffered a
severe loss, the loss of Josh Field, a bright young man who stole everyone s hearts. In a recent
PSA interview video, we hear from Kathryn Field, Josh s mother. Towards the end of the PSA
video, she admits: If Josh had more knowledge about the outcome of answering that cell phone,
maybe he wouldn t have, maybe he would have just left it . Clearly, PSA s do more than just
shake us awake; they also have the power to save lives by giving us the knowledge to stay safe.
Think about it this way, if distracted driving PSA s were as popular 6 7 years ago as they are
today, bringing people the knowledge to make the right decision, then maybe Josh, and many
others would have remembered the dangers and would have ignored that cell phone and focused
on the road. Sadly Josh wasn t fully informed of the dangers of distracted driving and so, he lost
his life that day. Mrs.

Things Fall Apart Analytical Essay
A Christian Missionary is a person who is called by God to preach his word. Their job is to
spread to everyone. Mr. Brown is a more effective Christian Missionary than Reverend Smith.
Mr. Brown is willing to make an effort to understand Igbo s beliefs. He didn t try to tell them
what they believed in was wrong. Mr. Brown made the people of Umuofia have a feeling of
growth again. He told them that everything was possible. (Things Fall Apart 178) He didn t

him being so generous it earned him a lot of respect from the clan. Ross W. Sanderson argues, that

Alexander Hamilton Vs. Thomas Jefferson
Selina Lewis
October 17, 2014
Government
Ms. Bishop Alexander Hamilton vs. Thomas Jefferson During the ratification of the Constitution of
1787, the Federalist and Anti federalist views created tensions and barriers between the two.
Federalists, who supported the making of a new document, the Constitution, differed from Anti
federalists who believed that the new system threatened liberties and failed to protect individual
rights. Anti federalist, such as Patrick Henry, James Winthrop and Samuel Adams, believed in state
s rights and only urged the need of alterations to the Articles of Confederation rather than dispose of
it. Likewise, several arguments arose including the issue of slavery, the duties of the Supreme
Court, but majorly the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is the general name for the first ten
amendments in United States Constitution. These were proposed to alleviate the fears of Anti
Federalists; furthermore, well known Founding Fathers disputed that the Constitution should not be
ratified because it failed to protect the basic principles of human liberty. Contrastingly, Hamilton
and Madison alike disagreed with the beliefs of the Anti federalists and believed that the
Constitution did not need a Bill of Rights; it would create a parchment barrier that limited the rights
of the people, as opposed to protecting them. However, they eventually made the decision to
willingly establish the said amendments into the Constitution which

Acceptance Vs Conformity Essay
1.Shipment of goods an order may be construed as acceptance of a contract, as stated in UCC 2
206. However, under UCC 2 606 (1)(a) this implied acceptance is only pertinent to conforming
goods. If upon inspection within reasonable time, the goods are determined to be non
conforming, there is no acceptance. Acceptance is solely intended to be for goods that
adequately meet the terms of a contract. In this case, a waterski that breaks down almost
immediately is not an example of a conforming good. Andy wanting his money back is signaling
to the shop that he will not accept this non conforming good as completion of their contract. 2. a.
It is true that buyers must notify the seller of a breach within a reasonable amount of time for a
remedy, under UCC 2 607 (3)(a). If the time from discovery to notification is deemed outside the
limits of reasonability, then there may be no remedy derived or implied in the Uniform
Commercial Code. To best assure remedy though, per the UCC, it is best that any nonconformance
be immediately conveyed to the seller upon discovery. This allows a seller a reasonable attempt to
resolve the problem or become aware of other potential problems. This protects not only the buyer,
but also the seller. b.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not true, and is covered under UCC 2 508, Cure by Seller of Improper Tender or Delivery,

if the time for performance has not expired, then the seller has the ability to cure the situation with
a shipment of conforming goods. The major stipulation here is if that it is the seller setting the
terms for conformance, as they would believe that non conforming goods would be acceptable. The
buyer must agree that these goods meet the terms of the contract, one party cannot act unilaterally.

According The Center for Responsive Politics, as of January 31, 2016, Kasich raised a total of
$15.3 million across all affiliated campaign committees and has not self financed (2016). Given
this amount, Kasich is ranked 12th out of all the 2016 presidential candidates and was close to
the national average of $19.3 million (Fugleberg and Thompson 2016). Kasich for America, his
official committee, raised $8.4 million with $7.4 million of that coming from large individual

However, after an independently wealthy celebrity and two established federal candidates were

wait for the opportunity to strike and make his presence known, but he is just being outspent and is
getting outpaced (Everett 2016). Not everyone, especially potential donators, share Kasich s
optimism and do not want to spend money on a perceived lost cause. Especially, with Trump
dominating the election and media cycles enhancing his first place lead. With that being said,
Kasich and his campaign managers are being exceptionally frugal and cost efficient with their
limited funds (Levinson 2016). Their budgeting skills and ability to save money for ads in New
Hampshire and in the Super Tuesday states may be a source of Kasich s optimism. They were
acutely aware from the beginning that they would not receive money on the level of Clinton or
Cruz until Super Tuesday at the earliest. So, they have done an exceptional job keeping Kasich in
fourth place on a twelfth place budget.
Traditional Media Following the New Hampshire primary, Kasich hired Republican media
consultant Rex Elsass to assist Fred Davis in overseeing the campaign s television ads

Blanche Dubois Victim
In the play A Streetcar Named Desire the character of Blanche DuBois is very complex and has
many different aspects of it. Blanche DuBois a serious alcoholic has had a very simple life as
she has never had to work or have any struggles of life thrown at her till she grows up and loses
her family estate and also has her husband kill himself. In the story, she starts off with snarky
comments to her sister and her feeling like she is all that. Throughout the story her life turns
sideways as she meets a man she actually likes and not one who she just wants to sleep with.
Blanche can be looked at as a victim of the story from many sides but can also be seen as a
victimizer in some aspects. In the story Blanche is easily a victim to all the cruel acts society
has done to her. In the story she faces hardships of her life early on when her husband kills
himself after she calls him disgusting . She was never able to get over it and she said herself she
always depended on the kindness of strangers for the rest of her life onwards. She even has a

Anthem And The Island Comparison Essay
n my mind this means in you can grant someone with freedom, do not worry about getting it

All the similarities and differences are related to the way the society runs and it s lack of freedom.
Within this essay, I am going to tell you about how the book Anthem and the movie The Island are
similar and different.
The first similarity between the book Anthem and the movie The Island is that the main characters
have inquiring minds. For example, Lincoln 6 Echo has been curious about the society he has
learned to adapt and live in. He had been very inquisitive about the way things go on in the labs

As an example, after Equality had decided to take his discovered invention to the World Council
of Scholars, he was told how he needed to be punished. With knowing that he will now never

Uncharted Forest. As from fleeing from his society, Equality kept on going further into the forest.
He eventually discovered the house in the forest, which he decided to stay in leading him to find
out that Equality 7 2521 was not we but instead an individual I . In addition to Equality leaving his
society, Lincoln also did the same in The Island. Once Lincoln had found out the truth about the
way the government worked and what they were doing he needed to tell someone. With that reason,
Lincoln ran to Jordan 2 Delta due to the fact that he knew she was leaving for the island. The two
then fled from their society, leaving them clueless in the desert searching for someplace safe to go.
Concluding this leaves off with the last similarity between Anthem and The Island. Which on the

that they are going to do business with and sending the right workers to the countries they will do
best in to do business. The obstacles for global expansion would be like not finding good
supporting countries like a company like boeing and now finding good staff that can do business in
a certain country.
3.They want to build relationships between other countries and their customers is a good thing.
Another good thing is that they want to hire people in that country and place that know it better
and have lived there because they would know where everything is and who lives there and needs
what. Some bad things though is since they have so many staff workers across the world that
those business could be inefficient and they could lose their relationship with the people and places
and even countries. Then DHL could start losing their high ranked reputation and lose a lot of
business with customers and other types of companies such as boeing and then they could even go
bankrupt or out of business for good.
4.DHL failed in the U.S. because of the Airborne Express, which they paid $1 billion for and ever
since it has been making them lose money. The dangers are that other companies are going to be
looking at them more and waiting for them to mess up so that they can step in and try to take over

The Annihilation Of Space By Law
Q4. Don Mitchell, in his article The Annihilation of Space by Law, argues that ordinances passed
against the poor in the 1990s point to a highly exclusionary type of modern citizenship. What does
he mean by this? In what ways are the poor excluded from modern citizenship? How is this
exclusion justified socio politically?
Space is never innocent. Regardless of whether a specific area is deemed public or private, space
is never innocent because of the bodies who govern those areas. Today, there are approximately 3.2
million Canadians who are either homeless or transitionally homeless, but regardless of their
citizenship, they are not considered as modern citizens by the society. Mitchell puts forth the
argument that the ordinances passed in the 1990s has stripped vagrants of their rights as actual
Canadian citizens and has created an elite class of citizenship that only the privilege can enjoy.
According to the Canadian government, an individual is deemed as a citizen of Canada if they
fulfill certain requirements such as being born in the country, applying for a citizenship, or being
born to at least one Canadian parent. With this citizenship, these individuals can now experience a
wide variety of privileges such as having the ability to vote, to either enter or leave the country, and
to enjoy all the rights and freedoms that are associated with the Canadian Charter of Rights and
Freedoms. Some of these rights include the right to public assembly and

Reflection Paper On Christmas Angels
Christmas Angels Christmas in the Chapel has been a huge staple in my childhood, and every

Lincoln Christian Church. In January 2015, I was able to join their group, Praise Handmade,
and entered the Heavenlies , as we call it, that December. Our Head Angel , Angela, and three
other girls, Rebecca, Bethany, and Erin, were in my first group for two years, and they had done it
before. I was new to all of this, and I was the youngest and the smallest (I was 11 my first year);
being afraid of heights did not help at all.
The platform we were on was the highest part on the stage, and there was was nothing to keep us
from falling; the stage is about 15 feet into the air. During my first rehearsal on the stage, my skin
turned as pale as a ghost and my body was as still as a statue; I was completely petrified. When the
song was over, I moved to a lower level of the stage to calm down. One of the angels (I don t
remember who) asked me, Are you okay?
I told them I was fine, though I was still trembling a little bit from fear. How was I supposed to
do it in front of several people if I couldn t even rehearse up there without having a panic attack?
Thankfully, I soon got used to the height, though the first time up there every year still makes my
heart pound; I think it does for everyone. For my third year, I was able to look up for our last sign
for the very first time.

Ralph Waldo Emerson s Definition Of Success
S for Success
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded
(____) . This quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson captures his paradigm of success. People strive to
achieve success and create goals to obtain it; however, a single minded interpretation of success
leads to missing out on opportunities. The presence of challenges provides the opportunity for
success and success comes with the determination to overcome the challenges.
Early in the fifteenth century, the word success first appeared. Developing from Latin word
successus , it was first defined as the fortune (good or bad) befalling anyone in a particular situation
. In the mid 1600 s, the definition of success a prosperous achievement of something attempted was
altered and fits the current use of the word. Appearing in the Oxford English Dictionary in 1978,
the latest entry of the definition of success is defined as an instance of an achievement ( Success ).

Low birth weight (LBW) is a term used to describe infants that are born under 2, 500 grams, or

The environment of a woman during her pregnancy directly relates to the size of the baby at birth.
Families living in poor income families have a greater number of LBW children. Women who are
involved in abusive relationships are also putting there unborn children at risk. This doesn t only
include physical abuse, but mental also. Women who are in stressful relationships or environments
are more likely to give birth to low birth weight children (LBW At a Glance).
There are a few things that a woman can do to decrease the risk. The first is to stop smoking, this
is the leading cause of LBW. A healthy diet and exercise are also important. Prenatal care is
important in all pregnancies. Prenatal care has not been directly linked to preventing LBW,
however, it doesn t hurt.
There are so many problems that can occur when dealing with a LBW child. These babies are
much more susceptible to infection because of their size (Zaichkin 191). They are also at a
greater risk for SIDS. SIDS is sudden infant death syndrome. The risk of this horrible syndrome
is much greater with a low birth weight child (322). These children are also at a thirty to fifty
percent greater risk of being re hospitalized during their first year of life (355). They are also at a
much higher risk of getting Cerebral Palsy.
These children are much more likely to have brain damage, liver problems, and lung difficulties

John The Baptist Is Celebrated At St. John s Eve
John the Baptist is celebrated at St. John s Eve, which is usually celebrated on the same day as
Midsummer or Litha. In this article we will be delving into the mystery of John the Baptist in
both christianity and paganism. It s speculated wildly on him being based off an old pagan god,
Oannes. Therefore we will be looking at the history of both gods and both religions. We will also
be looking at similarities and inequalities.
John the Baptist and Oannes
John the Baptist baptized people before Jesus did and even Jesus himself. He was born 6 months
before Jesus and a lot of people speculated on him being the Messiah. However, John did never
put himself higher than Jesus, he simply prepared the way. In Mattheus 11, John says, I baptize
you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose
sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing
fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and
burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire. Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be
baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, I need to be baptized by you, and do you
come to me? Jesus replied, Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfull all
righteousness. Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.
At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a

The Ethics Of The Bridge
Ethics:
The bridge we have created is ethical in the sense that it has a dependable purpose relative to its
location, and its uses. By implementing a floating bridge, in a non linear terrain in the city of
Champong Chnnang it allows for effective, and efficient commute between two villages. This idea
allows for the saving of time and money, by not implementing a less efficient method of
transportation and trade between the two villages. THIS ISN T GOOD ENOUGH, LET
EDWARD ADD SHIT TO THIS TOO.
Sustainable Design:
The bridge has a very well designed sustainability concept, relying on upcycled materials to
complete the bridge. These upcycled materials consist of the wood, the fishing net, the oil barrels
and the plastic shielding for the barrels. These materials can be used for functional roles in the
design, such as platforms, floatation, safety lines across hand rails, and so on. The bridge s
sustainability concept can be further supported by the ease of replacing materials, and not
throwing them in the bin. The materials such as wood, plastic and pieces of metallic bolts and nuts
can be recycled and reused for other purposed such as furniture, storage or completely recycled
back into a molten form for the metallic objects.
Lifecycle Analysis:
Before
Wood: The wood used in the project will be locally sourced, to reserve costs of importation. The
wood will start in the surrounding rainforests of the lakes. After chopping down sufficient trees the

Recession Turmoil Caused By U.s. Subprime Mortgage Crisis
Wall Street turmoil caused by U.S. Subprime Mortgage Crisis had eventually evolved to global
financial crisis. The financial crisis that has engulfed the world is really a disaster, leading to
precipitous shrinkage of human wealth and instantaneous evaporation of long time efforts by
financial institutions. But why did such financial crisis take place? Who should be blamed?
As far as I concern, Federal Reserve deserves the greatest blame, as its ultra loose monetary policy
created housing bubble, sowing the seeds of crisis. And its subsequent tighten policy pricked that
kind of bubble, precipitatingsubprime mortgage crisis. Together with the former Fed chairman Alan
Greenspan indulged rampant financial derivatives, which made the economy worse off.
From 2001, Federal Reserve began to cut interest rates, and after cutting for 13 times, by
june.2003, it reduced target rate to 1% which hit the lowest level in the past 46 years. Due to
such loose monetary policy, lending rates declined at the same time, 30 year fixed mortgage rates
dropped from 8.1%in 2000 to 5.8% in 2003. In this case, Americans house purchasing enthusiasm
rose dramatically. And speculating on real estate appeared. However bubble would burst
eventually. From june.2005, Federal Reserve began to reserve its low interest rate policy, and
raised its interest rates for 13 times, so by august.2006, Fed target rate was increased from 1% to

remove any chance of some other possibility existing about Tristero s doings. Though the

A Study On Fish Pass
CHAPTER 2
INTRODUCTION
2.1 General
Fish pass [2] is a hydraulic structure which is generally built on or around on obstructions like
dams, barrages, weirs, or navigation locks in order to facilitate the natural migration of the
fishes. Generally fishways consists of a series of small steps on which the water flows so that
the fishes can swim and pass around the obstruction. The working principle of a fishway is
attraction of the migrating species to a particular location in the river which is on the downstream
side of the obstruction and then enables them to pass upstream. In order to achieve it, either a
waterway is opened or the migrating species are entrapped in a tank and then lifted upstream.
Figure 3.1: Schematic diagram of a rock ramp fishway [11]
The effectiveness of fish pass is the ease with which the entrance to it can be located and how
easily the migrating species can cross it without stress or injury in minimum time. The behaviour
of the migrating species plays an important role in the design of the fishways. The performance of
the fish passes is dependent on the water velocities and the pattern of flow through it. The water
velocity in fish passes must be compatible with the swimming capabilities of the species for which
it is designed.

The Rise Of Self Service Machines
Marx and Technology Karl Marx s theories were written in the 19th century, it is debated
whether they are applicable to the issues of modern society. This essay seeks to explore the key
ideas of Marx and apply them to the chosen contemporary concern of the rise of self service
machines. Primarily it will give an in depth description of his idea of human nature and the key
ideas surrounding Marxist theory. Secondly, it will explain the current issue and argue the rise of
technology through the eyes of Marx by relating to his main concepts. Marx s views on human
nature make up the philosophical element of his ideas. He believed human beings define
themselves primarily through their labouring activity. Labour is therefore what they live for, it
defines human beings and also performs functions by connecting them to their existence. This is
achieved in three senses which Marx outlined (Morrison, 2006). Firstly individuals exert control
over nature which makes them active in history, rather than passive. Secondly, labour provides the
necessities a human requires to live, without it they would have no food, shelter or clothing and
would not exist. Thirdly Marx believed labour allows an individual to define themselves. Through
labour humans feel in control of their survival and are confirmed in their own existence (Morrison,
p. 120). The essence of the individual is labour, it is central to human development. Humans still
hold the power of creativity but the nature of the capitalist

According to the national institute on Drug Abuse, Abuse of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs is
costly to our Nation, exacting more than $740 billion annually in costs related to crime, lost work
productivity and health care (NIDA. 2017, April 24). The rising of illicit drug smuggling and abuse
raised questions about legalizing all drug. Although some people think that drugs legalization is a
way to control illicit drug use, it seems that it will do more damage to our society than it will help.
This essay will help us understand all the implications regarding all drugs legalization in this
country.
Drug abuse in general and illicit drug use are one of the most difficult challenges that face all
states around the world. Let us imagine a father with his kids at home who possess a gun without
a safe to secure his gun. Is this family safe? Similarly, legalizing drugs will be a permanent danger
to our society in many aspects.
Firstly, drugs legalization will result in an increased number of users of drug and substance abuse
resulting in high utilization of healthcare services. For instance, legalization of marijuana in
Colorado resulted in an increased healthcare utilization related to marijuana exposure and an
exacerbation of chronic health condition (Monte, Zane Heard. 2015. p. 241). In this example,
legalization means an increased of drug availability and therefore will be accessible

The Political Frame Essay
Buck Morss argues in The Political Frame that those societies claiming to be democratic often
operate with power out of control of the masses. This wild zone is above the law, because it is a
function of the state that makes the law. This relates to Buck Morss next point on the issue of
sovereignty and legitimacy of a state.
According to the nation state societies, the state monopoly on violence is legitimate because it is
operated by legislation. The laws are written by those elected by the people, therefore popular
sovereignty and popular will are the same. However, this fails to explain the violence and is an
unsteady point. The state is both defender and creator of law, and therefore shifts that power
towards itself. According to the class warfare model, the violence is explained by the revolution
and the constant struggle between classes. This, however, does not explain its legitimacy.
According to Marx, the secret exercise of class of interests cannot be the basis of legitimacy. ...

A source of legitimacy is the right to wage war because of all that war entails: an enemy and
violence, namely. By defining an enemy, the state brings a collective into being. Buck Morss
notes the war powers rights during times of crises, where the enemy is seen as dangerous enough
to develop the wild zone, that part of democracy removed from the people. Any challenge to the
collective status quo is therefore an act against the collective and an enemy action. Therefore, the
display of violence is a legitimate expression of democratic sovereignty despite the inherently non
democratic nature of the exercise. According to Buck Morss, war risks the life or death of the
collective itself. Therefore, the nondemocratic power is stronger in

The Great Thing About Art, By Giotto Di Bondone And Duccio...
The great thing about art, is that there are multiple portrayals of one idea but, the artist s own
personal style allows one to feel something that another may not. Early Renaissance painters,
Giotto di Bondone and Duccio di Buoninsegna established their own unique style to depict a
biblical scene known as, The Betrayal of Christ. Through a close analysis of each artist s
representation of, The Betrayal of Christ, one is able to compare and contrast the artists own
understanding of the scene through their attention to detail, character, and space throughout the
painting. When examining these two works, one will have a stronger emotional response
towards Giotto s interpretation rather Duccio s, due to his methods of handling organization,
figures, and space. Within each artist s painting, is a major scene within the Betrayal of Christ
known as, The Pact of Judas. This biblical story, is about one of Jesus s twelve disciples, Judas,
who agrees to give up Jesus for thirty silver coins. The chief priests, agree to pay Judas and decide
that the night before his crucifixion Judas would kiss Jesus so authorities could recognize him out
of the large crowd (King James, Matthew: 26). Once Judas realized, that Jesus was sentenced to die
due to his actions, he was remorseful and tried to return the coins to the priests and eventually hung
himself, due to his guilt (King James, Matthew: 26). Giotto and Duccio each painted their own
representations, of Judas receiving the thirty

Although these were man made materials, the flatness of the project allowed it to the blend into

my love for the evocative landscape of British Columbia...the building cannot be removed from its
setting and studied as a separate entity (Erickson 14). His desire for integration into the site is seen
in many of his future projects as well.
There were many echos in the lifespan of the Simon Fraser University that reflect the career of
Erickson. While the design was initially successful, his inadequacies in knowledge on the means
of construction as well as circumstantial understanding of the experience of the users of the space
led to many complaints and lawsuits for his office. This is exacerbated by the fact that the
contract for the design and construction of the campus was given to four other firms, with
Erickson and Massey being the chief designers and coordinators. While the quadrangle and
covered mall were direct representations of the concept, the secondary spaces fell short in
comparison. Many students and professor described the building as in wet weather...the grey
concrete has a depressing effect, and the mall becomes a wind tunnel when it s gusty (Iglauer 67).

What is meditation? Meditation is a conscious state of breathing techniques to enhance our mind,
focus on something, and create a sense of awareness of one s environment. In essence, it s like the

being aware of what s going on around us. With this comes equanimity: composure and an
evenness in a difficult situation. Equanimity is something that I ve learned from meditation. As
your meditating you should feel very calm and composed, this is how we would like to feel all the

Life And Role Of Stanislavski s Acting Style In Theatre
Stanislavski was born in Russia in 1863, and his birth name was Konstantin Sergeevich Alekseev.
He was exposed to the arts from a young age and as a child regularly visited theatres, operas and
ballets.
During the 1800s in Russia, actors were in a lower social class, so for almost half of Stanislavski
s life, he was limited to amateur arts to avoid casting social embarrassment on his family.
Stanislavski was the name he used to act without his family s awareness and he eventually became
professional when the Moscow Arts Theatre was founded in 1897.
The MXAT was effectively the first to ensure many, many hours were put into rehearsals and to
specially design all costumes, sound and lighting. This was the beginning of a realistic style within
theatre, which was opposed by many creative pioneers. Stanislavski felt no other option than to
become independent and set up the First Studio in 1912, moving away from the MXAT to combat
opposition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After being evicted, Stanislavski was desperate and eventually the state allocated him a small
house where he could rehearse. During this time, the MXAT also suffered and an acting tour led
by Stanislavski was its desperate attempt to gain funds. Some of the MXAT actors found new
teaching careers in the West, which spread Stanislavski s ideas.
Stanislavski s experimentation away from realism, into yoga and psychology, were ignored by the
Soviet government which appointed him as a Soviet Realism model. Stanislavski struggled to

My First Day Of College Essay
My first day of college was kind of a blur but it was most certainly a very important one. I spent
my first semester of college at Central Michigan University, I arrived on the Friday before classes
started which is commonly known as Welcome Weekend around campus. Coming into it I really
didn t know what to expect from college, I was really nervous about meeting my roommates and
having to communicate with them. I had been friends with the same 6 people for the past 5
years and moving on into a new environment where I knew no one was pretty daunting. I live in
Livonia Michigan it s about 20 minutes out from Detroit, CMU is in Mount Pleasant just over 2
hours away. I was so sad to leave my friends that day I basically slept the whole way to Mount
Pleasant just so I wouldn t cry. When I arrived my parents and I along with some help from the
student volunteers unpacked my aunts minivan and moved into my home for next 9 months. I
was the first to arrive so I obviously chose the biggest room, I stayed in Trout hall on the north
side of campus. The way they had it set was 4 roommates in one dorm, each dorm had 2 bed rooms
and 1 bathroom as well as a common room. Different dorm halls had different rooming methods
but the one Trout used was pretty common on campus. Once I was all moved in and unpacked my
parents went out to grab me some groceries, I used this time to catch up with my friend Nick....

The rest of the year came with a ton of great moments but none have really stuck with me the
way my first day did. It s like real life came at me all at once and the only thing I could do was sit
there and take it all in, now when I look back on it I can trace tat day to so many other significant
decisions I made that year, not only that year but all throughout college as well. It may not have
gone exactly as planned but it was certain worth the

Air Mail Act Of 1934 Essay
The Air Mail Act of 1934 banned the common ownership of manufactures and airlines so; this
caused the United Aircraft and Transport Corporation to spilt into three companies. Manufacturing
east of the Mississippi River became United Aircraft, which is now United Technologies,
manufacturing west of the Mississippi River became Boeing Airplane Company, and the airline
interest became known as United Airlines.
United s early routes were flown east to west from New York City via Chicago and Salt Lake City
to San Francisco as well as north south on the west coast. The routes came from connecting airmail
routes and from these routes came the first two hubs for United, which are Chicago and San
Francisco. These are two hubs that are still the principal hubs for United Airlines today. In 1933,
United introduced the Boeing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1955, a flight from Denver to Portland was bombed killing all 39 passengers and the five
crewmembers on board. The aircraft was a Douglas DC 6B and this time the bomber was
identified to be Jack Graham who placed the bomb in his mother s bag to collect on her life
insurance. He was arrested and executed. Next come three mid air collisions by United aircraft.
The first one came on June 30, 1956 when a United s DC 7 collided with a TWA Super
Constellation over the Grand Canyon. All 128 on board both flights died and this then was the
world s deadliest commercial airline disaster. The next mid air came in 1958 when another one of
United s DC 7s crashed into a United States Air Force F 100 fighter jet. The crashed landed in
unpopulated desert terrain of Las Vegas, Nevada. The last of the mid air collisions comes on
December 6, 1960 when United s DC 8, its first jet aircraft, hit another TWA Super Constellation
over New York City. The crash killed 128 people on both aircraft and six people on the ground.
These accidents led to a sweeping change in air traffic control in the United

Sex Between Children s Toys Of Non Human Primates (...
Sex differences in response to children s toys in non human primates (cereopithecus aethiops
sabaeus)
The study of sex difference in toys boys and girls tend to play wit, has always been classified as
gender socialization. According to researchers such as, Connor and Serbin, 1977; Liss, 1981, the
explained that boys favour construction and transportation toys, while girls favour doll. Research
also shows that boys do tend to be more active (Campbell and Eaton, 1999; Eaton and Enns, 1986)
and show more physical play than girls (Dipietro, 1981). These sexual characteristics of play style
is said to have derived from learning and cognitive mechanisms in association with gender
socialization. Bandura, 1977; Fagot and Hagan, 1991; Langlois and Downs, 1990 state that sex
differences in play actions and toys preference arise from modelling and reinforcement of sex
typical paly, based on learning theory. Cognitive theories connote that as children grow, they tend
to develop awareness of their gender identity, which results in a mental representation of what
gender is defined as socially, appropriate behaviour and show a positive understanding of toys and
activities associated with their individual gender (Maccoby, 1988; Martin, 1999, Martin, Wood, and
Little, 1990).
Biological factors can also influence sex difference in paly behaviour. In a research test conducted
on both female rats and rhesus monkeys, treated with androgen during periods of pre or natal
development, showed

Introduction to Capital Gains and Losses
1. Introduction to Capital Gains and Losses
Nearly everything that you own, whether it is for investment purposes or personal use, is a capital
asset. Capital assets are stocks or bonds held for investment purposes, land, machinery, etc. When
an individual sells a capital asset, the difference between the asset s purchase price and the amount
that it is sold for, is either a capital gain, which is in the case if the selling price exceeds the
purchase price, or a capital loss, where the purchase price exceeds the selling price.
When the value of the capital asset increases beyond the price that it was initially purchased for,
that is a capital gain. The gain is not realized immediately, because the holder of the asset has not
sold it. Once the individual sells the capital asset, at that point, the individual must realize the gain
and must claim it on income taxes. (http://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/capitalgain.asp).
Capital gains and losses are categorized into two categories: long term and short term. If the asset
is held for one year or more before the disposition of the asset, the capital gain or loss is
considered a long term. If the asset is held for less than one year prior to the disposition, the capital
gain or loss is considered short term. (http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc409.html).
2. How Capital Gains are taxed: Holding Period
The taxation of capital gains is treated differently depending on whether your investment is
considered long term or short term. The

Strasburg s Savior Analysis
The perceived Savior of the Washington Nationals has finally become what everyone expected
him to be coming out of San Diego State in 2010. It made be a slight shock to people that he
ranks this high because of his injury history. However, the reality is he s having a breakout
season and should be recognized for his historic work in 2016 and overall he s been pretty darn
good throughout his career. A big reason for Strasburg s success in 2016 I believe is the new
leadership in the Nationals dugout. Manager Dusty Baker has brought a calming influence to
everybody, including Strasburg telling him to smile more and enjoy going to the mound every
fifth day. I think he s taken that to heart he has a 13 1 record with a 2.83 ERA thus far in 2016.

Super Bowl Argumentative Essay
One day out of the year Millions of people get together to watch, what some people may say is
the most important day of the year, which is the Super Bowl. Not only are millions of people
tuning in to watch the super bowl they are also tuning in to watch the super bowl commercials.
The commercials may only be 30 seconds long, but the commercials that are produced by some
of the biggest businesses want to persuade their audience to buy their product. The commercial
is one of the biggest during the advertisements is Mc Donalds some people may feel their ads are
very touching and has a great messages, but I think otherwise. In the commercial, McDonald s
shows families going into their restaurant and they randomly selected people to pay their meal
with love , which meant they had to tell a family member they loved them in order to get their
meal. McDonald s has all the right appeal when it comes down to it, the families depicted in the ad

Generation After Generation, In Different Countries Of
Generation after generation, in different countries of the world, there has always been different
styles of bodily expression. Dance is a special form of art which movement of the body creates.
One of the most delicate types of dance is ballet, a form that evokes great emotion. For Martha
Graham, ballet was not only a dance: it was a way to express a fear or happiness with gestures
created by the body. Scholars have recognized Graham as having made revolutionary changes in
dance: in form, subject matter, and theme. Martha Grahamwas one of the most influential figures in
American modern dance, and her techniques and styles continue to be practiced today. She became
widely known throughout all ages and decades. As time went on, she became... Show more content

Martha knew that practice was the basis of all good dance and, therefore, a fundamental.
Graham s intense belief in practice aided in forming such a unique technique. To practice means
to perform, in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of faith, of desire, Practice is a mean of
inviting the perfection desired. (Martha Graham) It is said that Martha worked on her falls for
fifty years, and they grew more beautiful and complex each time she performed them. This
technique is not the only one she worked to perfection. However, it provides a quality example to
her devotion to the art of dance. Graham is considered one of the major and most influential
dancers in America. Graham s craving for dance gave her the strength and determination she
needed to become one of the best. Her incredible emotions changed the dancing world, not only in
her style as a dancer, but in her innovative style of choreography (182).
Graham was born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, on May 11, 1894 (Pratt 8). She was the daughter
of Jane Beers and George Graham and the oldest of three daughters. She also had a brother named
William Henry Graham, but he died of scarlet fever at eighteen months. This devastated the
family, especially Martha s father. George had always wanted a son; once they were blessed with
one he was no sooner taken away from

On Wenlock Edge Poem Analysis
Evaluate the use of melody, rhythm and texture in creating an effective setting of the poems by A.E
Housman in On Wenlock Edge by Vaughan Williams.
On Wenlock Edge is a song cycle of six pieces by Vaughan Williams, set to words from A.E
Housman s collection of poems A Shropshire lad . Having studied musicwith the likes of Ravel,
Williams was very aware of the impressionist movement (particularly in France) that was in full
swing at the beginning of the 20th century he also spent much of his life travelling around England,
collection folk songs (particularly those of the Tudor period). These influences are distinctly heard
in On Wenlock Edge . Put simply, the poems that make up A Shropshire Lad depict country life,
however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The melodies in these pieces also have been used to attain a sense of immersion in the English
countryside, a place where Williams folk songs would have been found. The recitative style
melodic line at the beginning of Is My Team Ploughing? contributes to this feeling as it was
written in D Dorian mode, a particular scale that is very recognisable from it s use in traditional
folk songs. A famous example of this is Greensleves, a traditional Elizabethan folk song written in
Dorian mode, which, like in Williams song, has a very distinctive feel to it.
In the poem that On Wenlock Edge is set to, Housman presents a landscape that is under torment in
a heavy storm, with strong winds. With resources that are not suited to create such an effect (a
string quartet, piano and voice), Williams relies on other composition methods to set the text
truthfully. At the beginning, the strings and piano play triplets and sextuplets, with the strings
using tremolo. The rhythms are often used to present a constant movement, or fluidity in the music,
as is used to represent the wind, with the tremolo adding a slightly frantic, unpredictability to it. At
the time that the pieces were written, programme music had recently become a popular style of
composing, particularly shown by BedЕ™ich Smetana, whose work Ma Vlast was published in
1872. The piece Vltava from this describes the journey of the river

Unit 5 Health And Social Care Communication Essay
Janes communication strengths and needs both directly and indirectly impact her and her family.
I will discuss these potential impacts by utilising the health and social care PIES model. Firstly, I
will discuss the physical influences which occurred because of Jane s TBI. Initially, the oro motor
assessment indicates that Jane s face is symmetrical and that she can accurately copy non speech
sounds. This is advantageous as she can swallow and eat her food successfully by manipulating
her tongue and moving the bolus to her oesophagus. Being able to swallow will give Jane
independence and will ensure her family does not have to feed her.
Additionally, the oro motor assessment reports that Jane can accurately copy speech sounds in
isolation and vary her volume and pitch accordingly. It also states that her ... Show more content on

Jane may feel frustrated by her deficient communication and may blame herself for her disorder.
Losing independence may make Jane feel upset and worthless. She may feel a burden to her
family and socially isolated as she struggles to have conversations with groups of people and loses
track of her thoughts and speech. She may also feel embarrassed by her limited memory and
attention span. Furthermore, Janes family may experience high levels of anxiety or depression.
(Headway.org.uk, 2017). They may struggle to communicate with Jane and feel intimidated by her
dominating behaviour.
Finally, I will discuss the social influences of Janes communication. The TBI affected her
communication and meant she was unable to work as an IT consultant. Thus, causing financial
dependencies which frequently leads to relationship strain. Jane may feel upset about losing her
independence and may develop comorbid depression because of her TBI. Jane may never return to
this speech orientated, customer facing role. She may need to apply for other jobs and carry out
further interviews which could increase her

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Field Oriented Control
FIELD ORIENTED CONTROL The main drawback of sinusoidal commutation is that the motor
currents are controlled which are time variant and thus PI controllers have to operate on limited
bandwidth. Hence using field oriented control the currents in a, b, c reference frame are
transformed to d q reference frame. Thus controllers are not subjected from time variant currents
and voltages and limitation of controller frequency response and phase shift on motor speed and
torque is eliminated. Using Field Oriented Control, current control is largely unaffected by speed of
rotation of the motor[6].In the scheme of filed oriented control motor currents and voltages
obtained from the motor are transformed into d q reference frame. Measured currents from three
stator phases these currents which are now in the stator reference frame are converted into two
phase using Clarke transformations which are further converted into the corresponding rotor
reference frame using Park transformation. The resultant current obtained is dc which is easier for
the PI controllers to operate.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Architecture Of Anglo Saxon Architecture
Early Britain was an era of take overs and violence , overall it was a time of darkness , but despite
the darkness this Anglo Saxon era was a time filled with a new culture and government . Anglo
Saxons came to Britain sometime during AD 425 450 and lasted until 1066 . When the Romans left
Britain , new settlement began . With the new population in Britain , there was a need for housing
too , the Anglo Saxon architecture however , did not start until the mid fifth century . Anglo Saxon
architecture is a different style than modern architecture .
The Anglo Saxon era was not as advanced as we are today , meaning they had to make do with
the resources they had . The resources the had were any natural resources around them or materials
that were man made . The Anglo Saxon homes were not built to last , but to provide shelter . Since
the housing was meant to last . Wattle and Daubhas been used to create a filler for the wooden
frames . It used materials that could be found easily which made it affordable to builders . The
wattle and daub is made by weaving together small wooden branches to create a wall . Mud ,
straw , horsehair and cow or horse dung is mixed together and then smeared on the walls . Once
this dries it is like plaster and can even be painted . (Glover). In house framing we mostly use wood
, but we are starting to use more steel and concrete . Most interior walls are made of plaster or
drywalls but can also be made of a stone or brick . The walls are made

Angelou thought her voice had executed the man and wound up quiet for a long time. • 4. Assistive Technology And Eportfolios Can Pair Well Assist... Assistive technology and ePortfolios can pair well to assist disabled students and help create and maintain an environment for learning that will promote respect for and appreciation of human diversity. As time and technology goes on there have been great strides in integrating the blind into society on a basis of equality, ensuring full access to information technology and resources. College or university students with disabilities could use the ePortfolio to showcase their characteristics of their learning strengths, styles, and needs. An ePortfolio made accessible to the visually impaired student could participate along with other students as a team member in an inclusive environment for a class project, a senior capstone or any other use of the digital portfolio. Just like any other student, an ePortfolio that equips the visually impaired through assistive technology can be a valuable tool in conveying that student s interests and abilities. As assistive technology improves and various multimodal technologies integrate, an ePortfolio can create opportunities for students with disabilities. There are currently several accessibility issues facing digital portfolio projects for disabled students and the need for better technical support, and according to Oswal (2013), besides ensuring the accessibility of the ePortfolio system, making use of only accessible tools for content development is central to disabled students success with their portfolio projects. • 6. Essay on Public Service Announcements on Texting and Driving Argumentative Essay Revision Shot to aim directly at people who tend to disregard warnings and are most like to be distracted drivers, texting and driving PSA s bring awareness and self consciousness to the general public as they display from moderate to severe graphic scenes on what happens when you take your eyes off of the wheel. A distracted drivingPSA ad is not only one of the best ways to alert people of the consequences of unfocused driving, but it can also reduce the number of distracted driving incidents, thus keeping families not only careful and alert, but alive and safe. I tell you, I couldn t get through this [ad]. The shock these ads have left on people is solid proof PSA s are the absolute best way to keep people informed and aware of the consequences of distracted driving. But of course, PSA s don t just shake people awake. Back in 2009, the Field family their friends suffered a severe loss, the loss of Josh Field, a bright young man who stole everyone s hearts. In a recent PSA interview video, we hear from Kathryn Field, Josh s mother. Towards the end of the PSA video, she admits: If Josh had more knowledge about the outcome of answering that cell phone, maybe he wouldn t have, maybe he would have just left it . Clearly, PSA s do more than just shake us awake; they also have the power to save lives by giving us the knowledge to stay safe. Think about it this way, if distracted driving PSA s were as popular 6 7 years ago as they are today, bringing people the knowledge to make the right decision, then maybe Josh, and many others would have remembered the dangers and would have ignored that cell phone and focused on the road. Sadly Josh wasn t fully informed of the dangers of distracted driving and so, he lost his life that day. Mrs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mr. Brown is a more effective Christian Missionary than Reverend Smith. Mr. Brown is willing to make an effort to understand Igbo s beliefs. He didn t try to tell them what they believed in was wrong. Mr. Brown made the people of Umuofia have a feeling of growth again. He told them that everything was possible. • 8. Alexander Hamilton Vs. Thomas Jefferson Selina Lewis October 17, 2014 Government Ms. Bishop Alexander Hamilton vs. Thomas Jefferson During the ratification of the Constitution of 1787, the Federalist and Anti federalist views created tensions and barriers between the two. Federalists, who supported the making of a new document, the Constitution, differed from Anti federalists who believed that the new system threatened liberties and failed to protect individual rights. Anti federalist, such as Patrick Henry, James Winthrop and Samuel Adams, believed in state s rights and only urged the need of alterations to the Articles of Confederation rather than dispose of it. Likewise, several arguments arose including the issue of slavery, the duties of the Supreme Court, but majorly the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is the general name for the first ten amendments in United States Constitution. These were proposed to alleviate the fears of Anti Federalists; furthermore, well known Founding Fathers disputed that the Constitution should not be ratified because it failed to protect the basic principles of human liberty. Contrastingly, Hamilton and Madison alike disagreed with the beliefs of the Anti federalists and believed that the Constitution did not need a Bill of Rights; it would create a parchment barrier that limited the rights of the people, as opposed to protecting them. However, they eventually made the decision to willingly establish the said amendments into the Constitution which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Acceptance Vs Conformity Essay 1.Shipment of goods an order may be construed as acceptance of a contract, as stated in UCC 2 206. However, under UCC 2 606 (1)(a) this implied acceptance is only pertinent to conforming goods. If upon inspection within reasonable time, the goods are determined to be non conforming, there is no acceptance. Acceptance is solely intended to be for goods that adequately meet the terms of a contract. In this case, a waterski that breaks down almost immediately is not an example of a conforming good. Andy wanting his money back is signaling to the shop that he will not accept this non conforming good as completion of their contract. 2. a. It is true that buyers must notify the seller of a breach within a reasonable amount of time for a remedy, under UCC 2 607 (3)(a). If the time from discovery to notification is deemed outside the limits of reasonability, then there may be no remedy derived or implied in the Uniform Commercial Code. To best assure remedy though, per the UCC, it is best that any nonconformance be immediately conveyed to the seller upon discovery. This allows a seller a reasonable attempt to resolve the problem or become aware of other potential problems. This protects not only the buyer, but also the seller. b.... However, after an independently wealthy celebrity and two established federal candidates were identified by the voters as frontrunners, the fundraising strategy needed to adjust and aggressively seek donations instead of waiting for them to come. Kasich, like his debate style, chose to lay in wait for the opportunity to strike and make his presence known, but he is just being outspent and is getting outpaced (Everett 2016). Not everyone, especially potential donators, share Kasich s optimism and do not want to spend money on a perceived lost cause. Especially, with Trump dominating the election and media cycles enhancing his first place lead. With that being said, Kasich and his campaign managers are being exceptionally frugal and cost efficient with their limited funds (Levinson 2016). Their budgeting skills and ability to save money for ads in New Hampshire and in the Super Tuesday states may be a source of Kasich s optimism. They were acutely aware from the beginning that they would not receive money on the level of Clinton or Cruz until Super Tuesday at the earliest. • 15. The Annihilation Of Space By Law Q4. Don Mitchell, in his article The Annihilation of Space by Law, argues that ordinances passed against the poor in the 1990s point to a highly exclusionary type of modern citizenship. What does he mean by this? In what ways are the poor excluded from modern citizenship? How is this exclusion justified socio politically? Space is never innocent. Regardless of whether a specific area is deemed public or private, space is never innocent because of the bodies who govern those areas. Today, there are approximately 3.2 million Canadians who are either homeless or transitionally homeless, but regardless of their citizenship, they are not considered as modern citizens by the society. Mitchell puts forth the argument that the ordinances passed in the 1990s has stripped vagrants of their rights as actual Canadian citizens and has created an elite class of citizenship that only the privilege can enjoy. According to the Canadian government, an individual is deemed as a citizen of Canada if they fulfill certain requirements such as being born in the country, applying for a citizenship, or being born to at least one Canadian parent. With this citizenship, these individuals can now experience a wide variety of privileges such as having the ability to vote, to either enter or leave the country, and to enjoy all the rights and freedoms that are associated with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. In January 2015, I was able to join their group, Praise Handmade, and entered the Heavenlies , as we call it, that December. Our Head Angel , Angela, and three other girls, Rebecca, Bethany, and Erin, were in my first group for two years, and they had done it before. I was new to all of this, and I was the youngest and the smallest (I was 11 my first year); being afraid of heights did not help at all. The platform we were on was the highest part on the stage, and there was was nothing to keep us from falling; the stage is about 15 feet into the air. During my first rehearsal on the stage, my skin turned as pale as a ghost and my body was as still as a statue; I was completely petrified. When the song was over, I moved to a lower level of the stage to calm down. One of the angels (I don t remember who) asked me, Are you okay? I told them I was fine, though I was still trembling a little bit from fear. How was I supposed to do it in front of several people if I couldn t even rehearse up there without having a panic attack? Thankfully, I soon got used to the height, though the first time up there every year still makes my heart pound; I think it does for everyone. For my third year, I was able to look up for our last sign for the very first time. The chapel has 5 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Ralph Waldo Emerson s Definition Of Success S for Success To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded (____) . This quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson captures his paradigm of success. People strive to achieve success and create goals to obtain it; however, a single minded interpretation of success leads to missing out on opportunities. The presence of challenges provides the opportunity for success and success comes with the determination to overcome the challenges. Early in the fifteenth century, the word success first appeared. Developing from Latin word successus , it was first defined as the fortune (good or bad) befalling anyone in a particular situation . In the mid 1600 s, the definition of success a prosperous achievement of something attempted was altered and fits the current use of the word. Appearing in the Oxford English Dictionary in 1978, the latest entry of the definition of success is defined as an instance of an achievement ( Success ). The broadness of the term achievement ... In this article we will be delving into the mystery of John the Baptist in both christianity and paganism. It s speculated wildly on him being based off an old pagan god, Oannes. Therefore we will be looking at the history of both gods and both religions. We will also be looking at similarities and inequalities. John the Baptist and Oannes John the Baptist baptized people before Jesus did and even Jesus himself. He was born 6 months before Jesus and a lot of people speculated on him being the Messiah. However, John did never put himself higher than Jesus, he simply prepared the way. In Mattheus 11, John says, I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire. Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me? Jesus replied, Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfull all righteousness. Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. The financial crisis that has engulfed the world is really a disaster, leading to precipitous shrinkage of human wealth and instantaneous evaporation of long time efforts by financial institutions. But why did such financial crisis take place? Who should be blamed? As far as I concern, Federal Reserve deserves the greatest blame, as its ultra loose monetary policy created housing bubble, sowing the seeds of crisis. And its subsequent tighten policy pricked that kind of bubble, precipitatingsubprime mortgage crisis. Together with the former Fed chairman Alan Greenspan indulged rampant financial derivatives, which made the economy worse off. From 2001, Federal Reserve began to cut interest rates, and after cutting for 13 times, by june.2003, it reduced target rate to 1% which hit the lowest level in the past 46 years. Due to such loose monetary policy, lending rates declined at the same time, 30 year fixed mortgage rates dropped from 8.1%in 2000 to 5.8% in 2003. In this case, Americans house purchasing enthusiasm rose dramatically. And speculating on real estate appeared. However bubble would burst eventually. • 27. A Study On Fish Pass CHAPTER 2 INTRODUCTION 2.1 General Fish pass [2] is a hydraulic structure which is generally built on or around on obstructions like dams, barrages, weirs, or navigation locks in order to facilitate the natural migration of the fishes. Generally fishways consists of a series of small steps on which the water flows so that the fishes can swim and pass around the obstruction. The working principle of a fishway is attraction of the migrating species to a particular location in the river which is on the downstream side of the obstruction and then enables them to pass upstream. In order to achieve it, either a waterway is opened or the migrating species are entrapped in a tank and then lifted upstream. Figure 3.1: Schematic diagram of a rock ramp fishway [11] The effectiveness of fish pass is the ease with which the entrance to it can be located and how easily the migrating species can cross it without stress or injury in minimum time. The behaviour of the migrating species plays an important role in the design of the fishways. The performance of the fish passes is dependent on the water velocities and the pattern of flow through it. The water velocity in fish passes must be compatible with the swimming capabilities of the species for which it is designed. 2.2 Types of fish pass 1.Close to nature fish passes 2.Technical fish passes 2.2.1 Close to nature fish passes The basic idea ... This essay seeks to explore the key ideas of Marx and apply them to the chosen contemporary concern of the rise of self service machines. Primarily it will give an in depth description of his idea of human nature and the key ideas surrounding Marxist theory. Secondly, it will explain the current issue and argue the rise of technology through the eyes of Marx by relating to his main concepts. Marx s views on human nature make up the philosophical element of his ideas. He believed human beings define themselves primarily through their labouring activity. Labour is therefore what they live for, it defines human beings and also performs functions by connecting them to their existence. This is achieved in three senses which Marx outlined (Morrison, 2006). Firstly individuals exert control over nature which makes them active in history, rather than passive. Secondly, labour provides the necessities a human requires to live, without it they would have no food, shelter or clothing and would not exist. Thirdly Marx believed labour allows an individual to define themselves. Through labour humans feel in control of their survival and are confirmed in their own existence (Morrison, p. 120). The essence of the individual is labour, it is central to human development. Humans still hold the power of creativity but the nature of the capitalist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. The Political Frame Essay Buck Morss argues in The Political Frame that those societies claiming to be democratic often operate with power out of control of the masses. This wild zone is above the law, because it is a function of the state that makes the law. This relates to Buck Morss next point on the issue of sovereignty and legitimacy of a state. According to the nation state societies, the state monopoly on violence is legitimate because it is operated by legislation. The laws are written by those elected by the people, therefore popular sovereignty and popular will are the same. However, this fails to explain the violence and is an unsteady point. The state is both defender and creator of law, and therefore shifts that power towards itself. According to the class warfare model, the violence is explained by the revolution and the constant struggle between classes. This, however, does not explain its legitimacy. The great thing about art, is that there are multiple portrayals of one idea but, the artist s own personal style allows one to feel something that another may not. Early Renaissance painters, Giotto di Bondone and Duccio di Buoninsegna established their own unique style to depict a biblical scene known as, The Betrayal of Christ. Through a close analysis of each artist s representation of, The Betrayal of Christ, one is able to compare and contrast the artists own understanding of the scene through their attention to detail, character, and space throughout the painting. When examining these two works, one will have a stronger emotional response towards Giotto s interpretation rather Duccio s, due to his methods of handling organization, figures, and space. Within each artist s painting, is a major scene within the Betrayal of Christ known as, The Pact of Judas. This biblical story, is about one of Jesus s twelve disciples, Judas, who agrees to give up Jesus for thirty silver coins. The chief priests, agree to pay Judas and decide that the night before his crucifixion Judas would kiss Jesus so authorities could recognize him out of the large crowd (King James, Matthew: 26). Once Judas realized, that Jesus was sentenced to die due to his actions, he was remorseful and tried to return the coins to the priests and eventually hung himself, due to his guilt (King James, Matthew: 26). Therefore, if she was to go to church, then I was too. From the time that I was a baby until I was 16 I never had the choice to choose what I wanted or what I believed. What is meditation? Meditation is a conscious state of breathing techniques to enhance our mind, focus on something, and create a sense of awareness of one s environment. In essence, it s like the nervous system; interpreting signals throughout the body to relay information to the brain, and being aware of what s going on around us. With this comes equanimity: composure and an evenness in a difficult situation. Equanimity is something that I ve learned from meditation. As your meditating you should feel very calm and composed, this is how we would like to feel all the time. Unfortunately, our bodys have fight or flight responses to react quickly to the environment. So by training our body and brain to react to situations that are out of our control as calm and composed, it will help you make better decisions in future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The rice in these countries are grown close to equator in grasslands areas the reason grasslands are used for farming of rice is because it s a perfect mix of cool and hot climates which is great for growth and they are predominantly large and expansive biomes perfect for growing crops on a large scale. It can be grown up to and around 3000 meters Explain how environmental factors (temperature, water availability, soils and topography) influence the yield of the food staple. Rice is grown upland so that water can flow down and irrigate all the rice below it and not overwater the plants, rice can have low productivity in some areas as soil can be poor and little fertiliser is used. He was exposed to the arts from a young age and as a child regularly visited theatres, operas and ballets. During the 1800s in Russia, actors were in a lower social class, so for almost half of Stanislavski s life, he was limited to amateur arts to avoid casting social embarrassment on his family. Stanislavski was the name he used to act without his family s awareness and he eventually became professional when the Moscow Arts Theatre was founded in 1897. The MXAT was effectively the first to ensure many, many hours were put into rehearsals and to specially design all costumes, sound and lighting. This was the beginning of a realistic style within theatre, which was opposed by many creative pioneers. Stanislavski felt no other option than to become independent and set up the First Studio in 1912, moving away from the MXAT to combat opposition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I spent my first semester of college at Central Michigan University, I arrived on the Friday before classes started which is commonly known as Welcome Weekend around campus. Coming into it I really didn t know what to expect from college, I was really nervous about meeting my roommates and having to communicate with them. I had been friends with the same 6 people for the past 5 years and moving on into a new environment where I knew no one was pretty daunting. I live in Livonia Michigan it s about 20 minutes out from Detroit, CMU is in Mount Pleasant just over 2 hours away. I was so sad to leave my friends that day I basically slept the whole way to Mount Pleasant just so I wouldn t cry. When I arrived my parents and I along with some help from the student volunteers unpacked my aunts minivan and moved into my home for next 9 months. I was the first to arrive so I obviously chose the biggest room, I stayed in Trout hall on the north side of campus. The way they had it set was 4 roommates in one dorm, each dorm had 2 bed rooms and 1 bathroom as well as a common room. Sex differences in response to children s toys in non human primates (cereopithecus aethiops sabaeus) The study of sex difference in toys boys and girls tend to play wit, has always been classified as gender socialization. According to researchers such as, Connor and Serbin, 1977; Liss, 1981, the explained that boys favour construction and transportation toys, while girls favour doll. Research also shows that boys do tend to be more active (Campbell and Eaton, 1999; Eaton and Enns, 1986) and show more physical play than girls (Dipietro, 1981). These sexual characteristics of play style is said to have derived from learning and cognitive mechanisms in association with gender socialization. Bandura, 1977; Fagot and Hagan, 1991; Langlois and Downs, 1990 state that sex differences in play actions and toys preference arise from modelling and reinforcement of sex typical paly, based on learning theory. Cognitive theories connote that as children grow, they tend to develop awareness of their gender identity, which results in a mental representation of what gender is defined as socially, appropriate behaviour and show a positive understanding of toys and activities associated with their individual gender (Maccoby, 1988; Martin, 1999, Martin, Wood, and Little, 1990). • 44. Introduction to Capital Gains and Losses 1. Introduction to Capital Gains and Losses Nearly everything that you own, whether it is for investment purposes or personal use, is a capital asset. Capital assets are stocks or bonds held for investment purposes, land, machinery, etc. When an individual sells a capital asset, the difference between the asset s purchase price and the amount that it is sold for, is either a capital gain, which is in the case if the selling price exceeds the purchase price, or a capital loss, where the purchase price exceeds the selling price. When the value of the capital asset increases beyond the price that it was initially purchased for, that is a capital gain. The gain is not realized immediately, because the holder of the asset has not sold it. Once the individual sells the capital asset, at that point, the individual must realize the gain and must claim it on income taxes. (http://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/capitalgain.asp). Capital gains and losses are categorized into two categories: long term and short term. If the asset is held for one year or more before the disposition of the asset, the capital gain or loss is considered a long term. If the asset is held for less than one year prior to the disposition, the capital gain or loss is considered short term. (http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc409.html). 2. (Martha Graham) It is said that Martha worked on her falls for fifty years, and they grew more beautiful and complex each time she performed them. This technique is not the only one she worked to perfection. However, it provides a quality example to her devotion to the art of dance. Graham is considered one of the major and most influential dancers in America. Graham s craving for dance gave her the strength and determination she needed to become one of the best. On Wenlock Edge is a song cycle of six pieces by Vaughan Williams, set to words from A.E Housman s collection of poems A Shropshire lad . Having studied musicwith the likes of Ravel, Williams was very aware of the impressionist movement (particularly in France) that was in full swing at the beginning of the 20th century he also spent much of his life travelling around England, collection folk songs (particularly those of the Tudor period). These influences are distinctly heard in On Wenlock Edge . Put simply, the poems that make up A Shropshire Lad depict country life, however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The melodies in these pieces also have been used to attain a sense of immersion in the English countryside, a place where Williams folk songs would have been found. The recitative style melodic line at the beginning of Is My Team Ploughing? contributes to this feeling as it was written in D Dorian mode, a particular scale that is very recognisable from it s use in traditional folk songs. A famous example of this is Greensleves, a traditional Elizabethan folk song written in Dorian mode, which, like in Williams song, has a very distinctive feel to it. In the poem that On Wenlock Edge is set to, Housman presents a landscape that is under torment in a heavy storm, with strong winds. With resources that are not suited to create such an effect (a string quartet, piano and voice), Williams relies on other composition methods to set the text truthfully. At the beginning, the strings and piano play triplets and sextuplets, with the strings using tremolo. The rhythms are often used to present a constant movement, or fluidity in the music, as is used to represent the wind, with the tremolo adding a slightly frantic, unpredictability to it. At the time that the pieces were written, programme music had recently become a popular style of composing, particularly shown by BedЕ™ich Smetana, whose work Ma Vlast was published in 1872. The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Field Oriented Control FIELD ORIENTED CONTROL The main drawback of sinusoidal commutation is that the motor currents are controlled which are time variant and thus PI controllers have to operate on limited bandwidth. Hence using field oriented control the currents in a, b, c reference frame are transformed to d q reference frame. Thus controllers are not subjected from time variant currents and voltages and limitation of controller frequency response and phase shift on motor speed and torque is eliminated. Using Field Oriented Control, current control is largely unaffected by speed of rotation of the motor[6].In the scheme of filed oriented control motor currents and voltages obtained from the motor are transformed into d q reference frame. With the new population in Britain , there was a need for housing too , the Anglo Saxon architecture however , did not start until the mid fifth century . Anglo Saxon architecture is a different style than modern architecture . The Anglo Saxon era was not as advanced as we are today , meaning they had to make do with the resources they had .
