BP Vs Exxon Fracking
The oil and gas industry has been a hot topic for most of my adult life. I was newly married when
the Exxon Valdez ran aground. I had two brothers working on off shore rigs in the Gulf of
Mexico when the BP Deepwater Horizon rig exploded. The world s dependence upon oil and
gas has created a need to find alternate energy and one of those ways is through fracking. Let us
compare these oil disasters and fracking, and first consider how managing ethical risk can reduce
accidents, next compare the risk that BP, Exxon, and the fracking industry face to continue to
provide energy sources, and finally how ethical leadership can help the oil and gas industry
manage risk. The structure of business ethics is voluntary, legal, and core practices. BP and
Exxon had an obligation to act ethically in all three areas. Exxon s 3rd mate was not license to
pilot through Prince William Sound. The captain was drunk and asleep and when he was awake
and in charge he ignored the Coast Guard s recommendations. Exxon knew the captain had issues
with alcohol. The company hired to do the clean up was ill prepared, had damaged equipment, and
they also did not have enough equipment to handle the spill. By all appearance BP presented an

BP and Exxon have had to pay billions of dollars for damages, clean up and fines. Unfortunately
risk to drill for oil and gas will continue as will risk associate with fracking. Oil and gas are non
renewal energy sources. When they are gone, they are gone. To me this is the biggest risk of all.
Some think that fracking is less risky than drilling, but there are many unanswered questions
associated with fracking. Earthquakes in fracking areas are on the rise. The gas is in the ground
for a reason and by design, and to remove it without regard for safety considerations of replacing
gas with liquid is

Different Forms of Power Presented in My Last Duchess, A Woman to Her Lover and La Belle
Dame Sans Merci
Amongst the three love poems examined in this essay, the theme of male or female power in
relationships pervades throughout. The views of the speakers are expressed and defined through
literary and poetic techniques. This gives the reader an insight into the speaker s problems and
dissatisfaction with a relationship, due to an imbalance of power. However there are dissimilarities
between the poems for example where in La Belle Dame Sans Merci the female displays
supernatural power and dominance over a knight, the Duke in My Last Duchess desires
psychological power over his Duchess.
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also the Duke believes himself to be above the level of common people saying he would never
stoop down to their level. From this we can presume the Duke is afraid of losing his power, and
would rather hold his head up high and suffer for it rather than stoop . The use of this word
indicates that the Duke is in a state of mind where he sees himself as superior compared to others.
However as we read on we learn that the Duke had limited control over his wife. He states that She
had a heart…to soon made glad , showing that he felt she was amused easily and distracted
away from him perhaps by other men. This is amplified further when he says She liked whate er
she looked on , showing he believes she undermined his control over her and paid attention to other
men . We can infer from this that the Duke was disturbed about his deficit of restrain over his wife
and is deeply angered at how she thanked men other than himself.
The Duke is outraged at the lack of affection he receives from his Duchess, and provides the
reader with reasons as to why he deserves more. The Duke says She ranked my gift of a nine
hundred years old name with anybody s gift . Here the Duke explains that his supremacy, which he
received from his family name, has stretched over several centuries and his Duchess should
therefore appreciate him for it. His contenders have a lot less to offer but still

Tokugawa Ieyasue By Nobunaga Od The Unification Of Japan
Japanese unification started in the late 16th century by Nobunaga Oda and continued by Toyotomi
Hideyoshi. When Tokugawa Ieyasu took the power the unified Japan was just at the beginning,
therefore, as the great strategist who was, his first aim was to centralise and increase power of the
shogunate in order to facilitate Tokugawa control throughout the country while at the same time
eliminate any potential threat. This obsession with order can be seen in any aspect of the
Tokugawa shogunateand therefore, besides society and politics, in foreign trades. However, the first
century of the Tokugawa period was not marked by isolation. In fact, after Toyotomi Hideyoshis
death and as Tokugawa Ieyasuwon over the western daimyo at the Battle of... Show more content on

This relocation was not only due to the stop of relations with Portuguese before settled in Nagasaki
but in particular due to a politic strategy of subtract power from regional daimyo. In fact, Hirado
was under the control of a regional daimyo while Nagasaki was under the direct control of the
bakufu and therefore more convenient to increase control and central power. In addition to this, it is
also important to say that the Japanese were interested in trading with Westerners, too. Therefore,
these restrictions were made with anything but a xenophobic intent just to eliminate any kind of
Western presence from Japan, but more precisely to preserve the control from a European aspect,
the religion, that represented a highly unsettling aspect in the making of it. In fact, by maintaining
trading with the Dutch they were able to know whatever was happening in Europe and in particular
to receive information and technologies unknown to Japan. An important example is the Rangaku
(literally Dutch learnings , but more in general Western learnings) that permitted the Japanese to

Booker T. Washington Essay examples
Booker T. Washington
At a time when the Black community is being afforded a free status, but not one of equality, many
leaders arise out of the woodwork to appeal to the white governing body for social equality. The
transition from the ninetieth century to the twentieth century gives birth to two of these leaders,
Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois. These two men are both working to achieve a common
goal, but the roads on which they re each traveling to get there differ significantly. Booker T.
Washington and W.E.B. Du
Bois offer different strategies for dealing with the problems of poverty and discrimination facing
Black Americans. Booker T. Washington s gradualism stance gives him wide spread appeal among

The opposing approaches of Washington and Du Bois are far from unnoticeable, and receive
recognition from both sides. Whether or not these two dynamic leaders are intentionally attacking
each other, one can only speculate that the vast differences in methodology creates tension within
the arena. In Washington s Atlanta Compromise
Address (D) he comments that the wisest among my race understand that the agitation of questions
of social equality is the extremist folly, and that progress in the enjoyment of all the privileges that
will come to us must be the result of severe and constant struggle rather than of artificial forcing.
(D) This statement, delivered at a time when Blacks and whites have separate water fountains(J),
almost one hundred and forty Black people were lynched(C), and forty five to sixty percent of
Blacks over the age of nine are illiterate(B), directly condemns the blunt complaining with which Du
Bois is aligning himself.
Return criticism is illustrated in The Souls of Black Folk, written by Du Bois in 1903.
The way for a people to gain respect is not by continually belittling and ridiculing themselves; that,
on the contrary, Negroes must insist continually, in season and out of season (E) as written by Du
Bois seems to be a direct response to the 1895 infamous address of Washington. With Jim Crow
laws in effect, Du Bois position seems to be the more fitting and proper of the two. The ideology of

South Korean War Analysis
On September 28, 1950, the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment arrived in Pusan,
South Korea in what would be Australia s major contribution in the war effort against invading
forces from the north of the Korean peninsula, to the Korean People s Army (KPA). Following
Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies endorsement of UNSC Resolution 82, this would see the
beginning of a three year conflict in which Australia would commit 17,000 troops and suffer over
300 fatalities, only five years after the end of the Second World War, (AWM, 2016) . In what was
predicated as Australia s commitment to providing peacekeeping troops for the United Nations to
preserve the freedom of South Koreans, the Korean War would eventually play a fundamental role
in solidifying Australia s shift in vital military alliances, in particular the post WWII development
of the United Statesin surpassing the United Kingdom as a key protector of Australia.

Essay On Wound Care Nurse
Change Proposal Paper: Getting a Certified Wound Care Nurse
Abstract This paper is written from the perspective of a nurse manager for a hospital floor and
focuses on a proposed change to that floor: the addition of a certified wound care nurse. It begins
by describing the benefits of a specialized wound care nurse, the existing conditions on the
hospital floor, and how each of the stakeholders would be impacted by such a change. It utilizes
Lippitt s phases of change theory to describe how those changes would be implemented on the
floor, outlining each of the phases in implementing such a change. Introduction Wound care
nurses play a special role in the hospital environment, and hospitals without those specialized
nurses may not be able to offer the level of care as hospitals that have these specialized
professionals. Wound care nurses, sometimes referred to as wound, ostomy, and continence
(WOC) nurses, specialize in wound management, the monitoring and treatment of wounds due to
injury, disease or medical treatments. Their work promotes the safe and rapid healing of a wide
variety of wounds, from chronic bed sores or ulcers to abscesses, feeding tube sites and recent
surgical openings (Nursing Schools, 2012). While it may seem as if any nurse should be qualified
to perform these functions, it is critical to realize that it is a specialized field. Their main
objectives are to assess the wounds, develop a treatment plan, clean wounds and monitor for signs of

Theme Of Mise En Scene In The Godfather
The American films The Godfather I and II directed by Francis Ford Coppola, included mise en
scene to emphasize certain characteristics and themes during both films. In this essay I will
discuss how mise en scene was used to portray the lives of the Mafia families in the 1940s and 50s.
The mise en scene in The Godfather I, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, plays a huge role in how
the film is perceived by viewers. Mise En Scene is characterized as, The arrangement of everything
that appears in the framing actors, lighting, dГ©cor, props, and costume (elementsofcinema.com).
The Godfather utilizes mise en scene perfectly. Coppola combined all the right components of a
typical mafia film and made something extraordinary. From the clothing, to the homes, to the cars,
and lighting; The Godfather was executed wonderfully. Lighting plays a huge part in The
Godfather. The first scene opens with only one man talking, in low light. The relaxed lighting
makes the scene intense and leaving the audience with a sense of fear. With the light just appearing
on the man s face, the foundation is totally dark, highlighting the threatening tone of the scene. This
scene uses the same lighting elements as chiaroscuro paintings would have. If you were to pause
the scene at certain points you would be able to see the rembrandt light and the strong tonal
contrasts between light and dark. Different props are also used throughout the film. When you think
about the Mafia, you think Italian men

John Barry Accomplishments
From captaining the American Navy s most prized frigates to being a man every sailor could
actively interact with, John Barry established himself to be an exceptional naval leader and hero.
He guided his ships and sailors through many successful battles which were key in the
establishment of the American Navy. Despite his great influence, Barry never put his personal
interests in front of the Navy s, and his dedication to the service centuries ago created the
dominant Navy and Marine Corps team present today. Because he was an expert and popular
mariner, a focused individual, and a naval visionary, John Barry was able to earn the title of Father
of the American Navy.
There are many skills that naval officers in Barry s age required. They all needed to navigate,
communicate, and perform other tasks essential to their position. Barry excelled in these areas, but
he also went far beyond. He was very popular among his seamen. The interaction he had with his
sailors was essential to his career because it earned him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

this, he was an advocate for establishing a Department of the Navy for the nation. This vision

commanding the United States in the Quasi War, Barry established a naval academy on board his
ship. The make shift academy helped to prepare future naval officers, and it produced many
notable officers. Barry s experience allowed him to see the potential for sailors. In 1776, he
recruited Richard Dale to join the Navy as a midshipman. Dale was a part of the Loyalists, but
Barry saw potential for him to transform into a great officer for the American fleet. Barry was
right; Dale himself became a great leader. Barry s vision for the Navy and the sailors in it created

The Effect Of Temperature On The Reaction Rate Of...
Aim: To investigate the effect of temperature on the reaction rate of hydrochloric acid and
magnesium.
Introduction: Chemistry happens everywhere, not just in a lab. Matter interacts to form new
substances through a process called a chemical reaction. Your body lives and grows because of
chemical reactions, whether by taking medicine or even a breath. A chemical reactionis defined as
the process that involves rearrangement of the ionic structure of a substance. A reaction rateis how
fast or slow a reaction takes place. Chemicals that proceed quickly have a fast reaction rate,
whereas slowly proceeding chemicals have a slow reaction rate. There are many ways to increase
the reaction rate of chemicals, for example temperature. If the temperature of the substance is
increased, the particles would have higher kinetic energy resulting in more more collisions. A
greater proportion of collisions results in a reaction. Magnesium and Hydrochloric Acid are the
two chemicals investigated throughout. Magnesium is an important supplement in the human
body as well as its uses in many lightweight products such as car seats, luggage as well as fireworks
and sparklers. Hydrochloric Acid can be found in the human body as a digestive acid.
Question: Does temperature make a reaction rate change?
Hypothesis: If Hydrochloric Acid Magnesium were placed in hot water then it is expected that the
reaction rate would be faster than the substance placed in cold water.

Theme Of The Signalman And The Signalman
In Gothic Literature, writers are able to choose between traditional and contemporary. This style of
writing typically relates back to fiction that gives an atmosphere of uncertainty by featuring horror,
death, curses or the supernatural. In The Signalman written by Charles Dickens, we can depict that
his writing falls under the category of traditional gothic literature as he chooses to stress the fear of
the unknown whether it be the setting or the supernatural. On the contrary, Roald Dahlwho wrote
Lamb to the Slaughter chooses to write under the category of contemporary gothic literature, as we
are introduced to a familiar setting, and common issues that arise when we face reality.
Nevertheless, both stories choose to emphasize the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Dickens, the recurrence of insanity would make sense as his style of writing tends to include
the supernatural and the paranormal, however, for Dahl, the recurrence of insanity would come as a
shock to many since contemporary gothic literature includes more events that familiar and realistic.
Dickens characters insanity can be seen in the quote How your imagination misleads you because
once the Signalman saw the individual that appeared to him, his mind began racing with thoughts
that seemed to overwhelm him. He couldn t think straight as his mind was focused on figuring out
what it was and why it seemed to warn him, and this ultimately led to his demise. By zooming in on
the word misleads , it evidently shows us how he was involuntarily submerged with thoughts that
drowned him and how failing to control his sanity led to his downfall, and later, his death.
Additionally, the quote May have been infection in his mind similarly shows us how the appearance
of the individual almost triggered this thought that infected his mind and rid him of thoughts that
were unperturbed. He thought that he was seeing things, and not experiencing them, and because of
that, he had a strenuous yet continuous fight with his judgment and let it overcome him easily. By
zooming into the word infection , we see how inauspicious it is, it wasn t

Robinson s offer and sees her in a hotel. This marks Ben s loss of innocence as he thought that s
how he frees himself from his parent s restriction and goes into manhood. As he enters the hotel
he is again bombarded by people talking and not letting him express his opinion. The bright light
on Ben s face as he s talking to the old ladies from the wrong party shows the sweat on his face
symbolizing how nervous he is. Later, the waiter ignores him symbolizing that Ben can t seem to
have authority of any sort, rather he is always the one subjected to authority. The next shot is a
reflection of him on the glass of the table surrounded by alcohol and cigarettes, things that indict he
is transforming. The sudden appearance of Mrs. Robinson in the image and showing the two in an
inverted shot says a lot about how Ben s life is about to turn around or upside down. As Ben tries
to get a room, he still limited by society and societal thoughts, we notice that from the director s
extensive use of limited space surrounding Ben in each frame. A huge sense of comedy is applied

Steel Beams with Timber Webs
INTRODUCTION 1.1Objective of Proposed Project This project will develop models enabling
the structural design of steel beams with timber webs (SBTW). The beams analyzed will have
three configurations: an I Beam type where the steel flange width, bf, is greater than the timber
web thickness, tw; a Box Beam configuration where the steel flange width is equal to the timber
web thickness; and an Architectural Beam style where the steel flange width is less than the
timber web thickness and the steel flanges are totally encapsulated within the timber web. The
three beam styles are shown in Figure 1. The physical properties of steel beams with timber
webs structures are expected to be highly influenced by the nature of the connection between
steel and timber. However, the knowledge of the macro mechanical properties of glued steel
timber joints is still limited. The work to be performed intends to increase the body of
knowledge on this subject. This research study was fomented by the desire to reduce the aspect
ratio of long span glued laminated beams. Additionally, the architectural style beam has the
possibility of providing the necessary fire protection for the steel while being an extremely
aesthetic alternative for exposed structures. The steel beam with a timber web would also be a
good candidate for stringer highway bridges with a glulam deck intended for secondary roads.
These bridges could be rapidly installed with a minimum of skilled labor decreasing road closure

Scout s Childhood Simplicity in Harper Lee’s To Kill a...
The adult world is a cold and terrifying place. There are robberies, shootings, murders, suicides,
and much more. If you were to be a small child, perhaps age 5, and you were to look in at this
world, you would never know how bad it actually was, just from a single glance. Children have a
small slice of ignorant bliss, which helps to keep them away from the harsh of reality. It isn t until
later, when they encounter something that opens their eyes and shows them, that they truly start to
understand the world we live it. Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbirdshows the many differences

Bob Yule is a very corrupt character. He beats his daughter, he doesn t care for his children, and
in the end of the book he tries to harm Scout and Jem, just because their father defended a black
man in court. Once his mind is made up, he will not change his course of action, which leads to
his own demise. We do not know where Mr. Yule went wrong, or when he changed, but we do
have in comparison his daughter, Mayella. She was simply following her father s lead in court,
and though she lied under oath, she still had a certain amount of innocence. She did not have a
vicious or malicious intent, but more as a scared girl. She was scared of her father and of what
he would do to her if she didn t comply with his commands. Though these reasons are not to be
used as excuses for her behavior, they give a little bit of insight into the mind of a teenager. She
was simply looking out for her own well being, not that of another, which is a common thing for

Political Campaign Contributions Is Not A New Practice
Bribing government officials running for office by way of political campaign contributions is not
a new practice. A business donates a significant amount of money to a politician who then gives
them a government contract they want in return whether it be monetary gain by way of the
taxpayer or allowing them to break laws for the sake of their business. These practices come out
of the pockets of taxpayers and many politicians serve jail time for them. There are several
regulations put in place by the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Boardand by individual states.
Recent studies in the past year, one done by Harvard University, have both suggested and concluded
that the United States of America is no longer a democracy, but an oligarchy. An oligarchy is a
form of government in which the richest people have the most power. It dates back to the time of
the first colonies. Part of the United States being reclassified as an oligarchy may be due to the
amount of government bribes the nation has going on at the present time. In the last presidential
election in 2012, there was talk about large corporations giving the political candidates campaign
contributions in order to buy them and it is a commonly discussed topic as of this day. Bribes
given to the government are common in underdeveloped countries where the government is
corrupt as this is an example of a corrupt practice. All levels of government from federal down to
local have been caught in some sort of

Essay on Sigmund Freud s Ego Defense Mechanisms
Sigmund Freud is perhaps one of the most well known theorists in regards to the study of the
human psyche. Freud s model of the human psyche is comprised of three core elements: the Id, or
the unconscious mind; things out of our awareness. The
Superego, or the subconscious mind, and finally the Ego, which lies between the unconscious and
subconscious. Freud proposes that there are nine ego defense mechanisms that act the ego uses in
its job as the mediator between the id and the superego. In psychoanalysis, an ego defense
mechanism is an unconscious personality reaction that the ego uses to protect our conscious mind
from threatening feelings or perceptions.

If I m planning to do something but something else comes up, I may try and rationalize the
decision by putting down the other option weather is going to be bad , I didn t really want to do
that anyway , or I can always go later . Another example is entertainment movies, music, or
activities; I may not like a certain type of film or genre of music, but when American pop culture
is rife with that type of music or movie, I ll try and rationalize my association with such things as
everything in moderation or it s fine, as long as I don t indulge . Displacement is another
defense mechanism I ve noticed. If I m having a bad day or if I m mad for one reason or another,
I notice that I d often take it out on undeserving people. Often I would use an angry tone with
someone if I d just been in an argument, as my anger has not yet subsided. As with everything,
everything in moderation . I believe ego defense mechanisms are not completely unhealthy, and that
using them to deal with some situations can prove to be beneficial in the development of our
personality. However, if one relies primarily on ego defense mechanisms and refuses to deal with
circumstances head on , they will develop problems later in life. In situations when one is
undoubtedly guilty, it is impossible to rationalize or justify their actions or attitudes and hide behind
unfounded explanations in

Essay about Marilyn Monroe
Hollywood is a very powerful modern day institution, where a star s image can characterize,
shape and circulate societal myths and ideologies. The construction of a star s image as a
commodity of their societal myths and ideologies has the extraordinary power to exert messages
so that even the smallest details become significant yet not overtly obvious. How a star s image is
produced and then consumed can justify a society s relationship with that image and therefore aid
in explaining the social construction of what society deems as their reality . A star s image is

Media industries were controlled by males; therefore Marilyn Monroe s image served the interests
of men by legitimizing their power. This creates a marketable image aimed at a well defined
audience that is male. Classing Marilyn Monroe as merely Entertainment for Men contributes to
behavioral ideologies in society for women to act as objects for male desires. The myths drawn
from such slogans creates for females a sense of inferiority, where in Monroe s case, her body and
sexual allure were her only resources. The ideologies circulating in society naturalized Monroe s
image as being the cultural norm and something which women should aspire to be for the benefit of
males.
Marilyn Monroe established her temptress image through multiples of publicity shots. An
important element contributing to this image, which is clearly displayed in this magazine cover,
is her facial expression. Marilyn Monroe established a universally familiar expression, her face
raised, mouth open and bared teeth, which became vital to her image. These peculiarities of her
facial expression are signifiers which help to create her marketable and sexual image. The open
mouth and bared teeth become overt signs of sexual allure, playfulness and seductiveness. This
contributes to the beliefs that females have to appear as a sexual object to remain a marketable
image in society. Marilyn looking upwards, together with the photograph taken from a camera

Rock N Roll Research Paper
Rock n roll is constantly changing and evolving into specific sub genres. Sub genres break down
a general genre of music into a more specific and sophisticated type of that category. For example,
rock has many different branches including soft rock, southern rock, and hard rock. Rock in
general typically has a lead electric guitar with a vigorous 4/4 beat produced by the drums.
However, in the sub genre of southern rock, a southern country rhythm is combined with a touch of
rock and roll. Hard rock separates itself by sustaining a loud, powerful, voluminous sound, whereas
soft rock maintains a slower and smoother rhythm while still possessing the rock tone. Each sub
genre contributes their own uniqueness while also preserving rock characteristics... Show more

This sub genre originated in the southern United States from the inclusive rock genre. Southern
rock has a very strong lead beat that focuses mainly on vocals and the electric guitar. Just like
country music, southern rock tells a story and that is what makes the lyrics and vocals so
important. Southern rock is a lot like country music as a whole, but separates itself by being
louder, adding a heavier beat, and speeding up the song. Southern rock maintains a rock aspect
by its amplified electric guitar lead and continues to carry a solid beat. Southern rock started to
develop in the mid 1960 s and began to hit its peak in the 1970 s. The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd
Skynyrd, Outlaws, The Marshall Tucker Band, and ZZ Top were a few of the great early bands
in southern rock. Southern rock is still a popular genre including Kid Rock, Shakey Graves, Drive
By Tuckers, and Blackberry Smoke. Atlanta Rhythm Section, a very popular southern rock band, is
known for one of their most popular songs, Homesick, released in 1981. This song is categorized
as southern rock due to its hard driven beat and the lead electric guitar feature. This song begins
with an electric solo that supports the classification of rock, but then begins to add riffs to
compliment the electric guitar solo with a touch of the south. Throughout the song, the lyrics

Obstructive Sleep Apnea ( Osa ) Essay
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a major health problem, as more than 22 million adults in the
U.S suffer from OSA.1 The prevalence of moderate to severe OSA in older adults aged 65 and
over is twice as high as that in middle aged adults.2 Unfortunately, estimates suggest that 85% of
individuals with moderate to severe OSA remain undiagnosed.3 Individuals with untreated
moderate to severe OSA are at a greater risk for depression (DEP), mild cognitive impairment
(MCI), and dementia compared to individuals with no OSA. In OSA, repetitive intracranial
blood flow surges during apneic episodes cause disturbances in microvascular functions,
resulting in hypoperfusion4 6 and poor cerebral vasomotor reactivity.7 9 Hypoxemia promotes
the development of cerebral small vessel disease (C SVD).10 13 Repeated rapid alternations
between hypoxia and reoxygenation cause oxidative stress,14,15 which alters blood brain barrier
functions and leads to the formation of C SVD.16 18 The consequences of C SVD are 1)
disruption of neuronal activity in regions involved in the regulation of mood and cognition
11,19,20 and 2) reduction of prefrontal and frontal lobe vascular perfusion,10,21 23 which causes
neuronal metabolic deficiencies that may lead to synaptic loss and neuronal damage.24,25 The

Summary of the article:
Mergers amp; Acquisition (M amp;A) values for 2011 year were said to exceed a trillion dollars, an
incremental percent increase over the previous years.
Nearly seven out of 10 companies planned to make at least one acquisition in 2012, significantly
higher than 2011.
In the first six months of 2012, the number of corporate Mergers amp; Acquisitions deals jumped
to nearly 5,900, up from about 5,100 in the first six months of 2011.

* LEADERSHIP ISSUES.
Directions come from the top down, with little effort put toward engaging employees or generating
enthusiasm for the new approach.
* STRATEGIC ISSUES.
The lack of clear strategic rationale for an acquisition as being a factor that leads to failure.
A Different Model for Making Acquisitions Successful:
* ALIGNMENT AROUND A CLEAR STRATEGIC PLAN(PRE ACQUISITION)
With a clear strategic plan in place, it is much easier to identify when an acquisition can help
accelerate a company s strategy than when there is a poor strategic fit.
* WINNING HEARTS AND MINDS.
All large scale change requires buy in from individuals across an organization not only the higher
level of management.
* ENGAGEMENT OF A CROSS FUNCTIONAL INTEGRATION TEAM (POSTACQUISITION).
Mergers and acquisitions tend to fail when cultures collide.
* ADOPTION OF A LARGESCALE CHANGE FRAMEWORK.
A project management approach to strategic partnerships is well understood, and is often within the
comfort zone of financial managers.
Conclusion amp; recommendations
M amp;A is a general term used to refer to the consolidation of companies. A merger is a
combination of two companies to form a new company, while an acquisition is the purchase of one
company by another in which no new company is formed.

Tomorrow When The War Began Essay
Title:Tomorrow When the War Began
Author:John Marsden
Date Completed:25 March 2015
In the novel, Tomorrow When the War Began, there is an invasion on a small rural town in
Australia. A group of young teens are out camping and manage to avoid capture. The discovery that
their friends and families have been captured ignites them on a crusade to do what they can to
liberate their town.
The key idea in the text that is significant to me is about the importance of strong teamwork and
leadership in surprising circumstances.
In the book the group decided that Homer should be their leader. He was a self appointed leader
but no one had any objections. The commanding figure of Homer united the group and created a
team, as opposed to a group of friends. That was Homers genius He combined action with
thought, and he planned ahead. The group, under the guidance of Homer, began to understand
that they either had to work together to live, or work separately, and get captured or killed. We
ve got to stick together, that s all I know. The following quote shows how Homer has adapted and
stepped up to become a leader when he was needed most. You keep going like this, you ll loose
your reputation. Aren t you meant to be just a wild and crazy guy? I believe that confidence is
an important characteristic of a good leader and means people will look up to you. I also believe
that being able to take risks, like Homer does, is an important part of becoming a great leader.

Open Ended Questions In Research Essay
Questionnaires and surveys are useful for determining the attitudes, characteristics, profiles, beliefs
from a sample of people. In designing a questionnaire that focuses on open ended questions the main
concern should be on determining the way the responses will be quantified.
Open ended questions are often used in research to clarify closed questions or as a means of
generating ideas. In both cases it is generally assumed that the longer and more detailed the
response to an open ended question the better (Graziano et al, 2000). However, relatively little is
known about the effect of factors such as question wording or questionnaire design on the response
to open ended questions.

western parents would defy Chinese parenting style .
Amy Chua formed a list of the things she would never allow her children to do. These things may

The Tree of Life entry was one I created after I was able to leave work early on the weekend. I had

in the outline of the tree limbs, I found myself thinking about my own family tree, and concluded
the limbs in the tree with a strong sense of the connectedness of each person alive today. I chose to

I had really wanted to try and draw concentric circles on the paper, and believed it would only look
visually appealing if I had perfect circles, so I purchased a protractor on my way home from school
that day to try in this Mandala. I initially drew the larger outer circle, then drew smaller and smaller
circles until I made it to the middle. I noticed that the tip of the protractor had actually pierced a
hole through the paper and as I looked though the tiny hole I was inspired to turn the entire
Mandala into somewhat of an eye, so I drew a pupil in the middle. I then chose to work with
colored pencil and fill the rest of the page with colors. I used a brown color in the middle to go
along with the eye theme, but then I decided to make the entry more intricate and drew squiggly
lines in the next circle, followed by a complex kaleidoscope pattern. I wanted to progressively
return the patterns back to a simpler and calmer design, and ended up with a yellow star near the
outer edge, almost looking as if it is the setting in which the eye had been mounted, like a stone
in a ring. For me, this gave the Mandala a very stable feeling, I feel as though without it, the
image may begin to swirl. I also chose to set the Mandala into a softly swirling background. I
found that I really enjoy making Mandalas and that it does not have to be geometrically perfect to

The Importance Of Obedience, And Purity Of Worship
A promise kept, military advancement, faith, a land gift, courage, the importance of obedience,
and purity of worship. These are just a few of the important themes identified in the book of
Joshua. Joshua is the sixth book in the Greek and English Bible; and the first of the twelve
historical books. In the Hebrew Scriptures, Joshua is listed as the first book in the former Prophets
section . The book of Joshua is a history book, containing the account of God fulfilling His promise
to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Mosesand the rest of the Israelites.
Through this historical narrative we see a faithful God deliver on a promise made hundreds of
years earlier, a new leader come into his own as he leads his people into Canaan and we come to
understand the extreme importance of reading, meditating on and obeying the Word of God. In
this book Joshua tells us how Israel went from a nomadic lifestyle to a nation at rest in a
permanent land. It all starts off with God commissioning Joshua as the new leader of the Nation of
Israel. Next, instead of seeing an unbroken string of military successes and conquests, we read
about the high and low points of the nation s growing possession of Canaan .
From a literary point of view the author of this book uses the narrative style. There is also
evidence of installation genre, and phrase repetition. Verses 1 9 of chapter are the account of God
commissioning Joshua as the new leader of Israel. The commissioning has two parts. First is the

O Connor chose character names to help show the role religion plays in her novel, Wiseblood.
Enoch is based off of Enoch from the Bible. Enoch was the great grandfather of Noah. He walked

died; he just went to Heaven to live with God. In the novel and the movie, Enoch had wiseblood

which goes back to the story of Enoch when he went to live in Heaven with God instead of
dying. Sabbath was named after the sabbath. Her name did not show her true character though.
She turned out to not be innocent at all. In the movie, she tries to be very seductive with her

During the time period of 1789 and 1815, human rights were questioned by the common people.
Citizens were separated into three estates. The first estate was made up of 1% of the population
which was the clergy. The second estate was made up of 2% of the population. The third estate
was made up of 97% of the population which was the middle class also known as the bourgeoisie
or the peasants. This estate had little to no rights and was considered poor even though they were
responsible for paying for all taxes for those above them who were wealthy. This unfair distribution
of power was a spark in the cause for the French Revolution. The French Revolution was fairly
successful in using Enlightenment ideas to reform french society, however, Napoleon undid some
of the progress the Revolution made prior.
The first phase the destruction of the old regime successfully used Enlightenment ideas to form
French society. The Revolution began when the third estate broke out into protest and formed the
National Assembly in 1789. This led to the Tennis Court Oath which promised to meet as many
times as it took to create a constitution. In the summer of 1789, common people decided to save
the third estate from the ruling of the king by breaking into the prison courtyard and taking over
the prisoners and their weapons, this soon became known as the storming of the Bastille. A new
government for France took place when the National Assembly wrote the Declaration of the Rights
of Man and Citizen . This was written to make the first and second estate recognize that the rights
and freedoms they take for granted, should be experienced by all humans from the time they are
born to the day they die and be protected no matter what. This declaration granted all men equal and
abolished aristocratic freedoms which goes back to the ideas of the Enlightenment philosophers. By
1791, France created a new constitution that was set up by the Legislative Assembly at The
National Convention due to food shortages and high prices that led France out of monarchy and
into a republic. Phase two the Radical Revolution was successful in using Enlightenment ideas to
reform French Society until The Committee of Public Safety stepped in. It commenced in

Analysis Of Absurd By Albert Camus
Presumably, since the beginning of time, we, as human beings, have tirelessly sought out answers
toward a greater, predetermined and/or significant purpose in our lives. The question is still
unanswered, but the desire remains what is the point? The contradiction between searching for
order, reason or existential purpose and the inability to find any type of purpose in an essentially
meaningless and indifferent universe is what French philosopher, Albert Camus, considered
Absurd. Any hopeful searching for concrete meanings is met with the discouraging and
disheartening realization that there are no true meanings. For many of us, the idea of the world
being made with no fated purpose or that any individual effort made toward changing the... Show

In the show, both title characters, Rick and Morty, inhabit expendable worlds that are easily
replaceable with the push of Rick s self created portal gun. Any species perception of self
importance or distinction is completely rejected by the rest of the universe s indifference
toward their existence. For example, in the eyes of citizens of Earth whichever Earth Rick and
Morty may be on the idea of destroying a planet and its inhabitants by the Cromulons, a species
of enormous floating heads introduced in the episode, Get Schwifty, appears as an act of
wickedness and cruelty. For the Cromulons, destroying planets and its inhabitants is a form of
entertainment as they are hosts of an intergalactic game show where planets are picked and its
inhabitants must create and sing a song in order to make it to the next round or be faced with
watching their worlds end. Think of this episode as an episode of NBC s America s Got Talent,
but with giant floating boulder textured heads, with egos that are bigger than the combination
Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell and whoever the other interchangeable host is. This is also an
episode where the citizens of Earth questioned their religious beliefs, eventually tying a thief, a
gothic woman, and a movie talker to a bouquet of balloons, in hopes that they will float toward their
newfound gods, the Cromulons, for

Examples Of Masculinity In Love And Death
In the early Byzantine empire, martial ability became the yardstick against which a Roman male s
worthiness was measured. The hyper masculinity of the Roman army fed popular notions about
masculinity, with the Roman soldier typifying the ideal man: he was physically strong, brave,
fearless and self disciplined. These ideas were so pervasive that they were deeply entrenched in
people s perception of manliness not only at the bottom of the socio economic pyramid but at the
top as well. Even the Roman nobility, who occupied positions of leadership in politics and the
military, had subscribed to these notions of virility, seeing the need to project themselves as real
men in the public eye. One way that this manifested itself was how, until... Show more content on

Boris, the main character in the movie, is a meek pacifist with an inclination towards
intellectual pursuits; he is short and small, with a gentle physical appearance. These traits serve
as a cause for Boris to be judged as unmanly by other characters in the movie. This issue of
perceived masculinity is tackled by Allen from the beginning: Boris narrates to the audience
how, in Russia, his short height meant that he had never attained full manhood. But it is most
pronounced in the scene where the news of Napoleon s invasion of Austria has come to Boris
family, causing men to rejoice as they finally get the opportunity to taste the glories of battle .
His family wants him to fight, to which Boris response is his lack of belief in violence and war
as a solution. This induces condescension and laughter, and he is called a coward. Some begin to
give reasons for why he should pick up arms and fight: Who shall protect his sisters? And what
about Mother Russia? This was an essential component of masculinity as perceived then:
feminizing one s nation along with the idea that men are protectors of women, for whose safety and
protection men must engage in

The Rose Vs. The Red Candle
The song The Rose by Bette Midler is some sort similar to the chapter the The Red Candle. In the
chapter The Red Candle it talks about a girl named Lindo Jong, which is forced to marry a boy
from another family, that she doesn t like. In song it talks about different types of love gentle love
like a flower, sharp lovelike a razor and soothing love like a river. I think in this situation in the
book love is like a razor, because their love is not really and it is cutting her up inside. The part
that is like the razor is Of course, now I know the tree trunked lady was the old village
matchmaker, and the other was Huang Taitai, the mother of the boy I would be forced to marry.
The song sort of similar to this scene, because it talks

Examples Of Narrative Essay About Military Life
It s incredible how throughout the course of nine weeks you can take an individual from a
civilian to a squared away soldier. From the pushups on the scorching rocks, having parties at the
beach also known as the marvelous sand pit to making friendships that would last a lifetime the
military has truly been a life altering experience. It s taught me how to triumph over adversity, to
forget fear and that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Those nine weeks of vigorous
work, pain, and an immense amount of stress was completely worth it. Get off my bus, lets go.

many other events such as maneuvering your way through ropes at high altitudes, climbing over
walls or swinging onto a platform. I particularly remember the obstacle in which you had to hang
upside down and make your way down an inclined rope. I was terrified because of the way the
rope was slanted downward so I just closed my eyes. I was halfway through when Drill Sergeant
Sanchez began shouting and shaking the rope. Open your eyes Private! What if you re out in
the war zone. You re just going to be walking around with your eyes closed because you re
scared? At that point I realized he was right. Was I just expecting to make it through training
with my eyes closed? I had to forget about how scared I was and carry on with what I had to do.
Once I got to the platform I thought that there would for sure be some push ups waiting for me,
but I was wrong. Private, do you really think that you re cut out to be a soldier if you face your
fears with your eyes closed? No Private! You have to face and overcome those fears. Personal
Courage. Private. One of your Army Values. Don t ever forget it and you ll be a great Soldier

  • 2. BP Vs Exxon Fracking The oil and gas industry has been a hot topic for most of my adult life. I was newly married when the Exxon Valdez ran aground. I had two brothers working on off shore rigs in the Gulf of Mexico when the BP Deepwater Horizon rig exploded. The world s dependence upon oil and gas has created a need to find alternate energy and one of those ways is through fracking. Let us compare these oil disasters and fracking, and first consider how managing ethical risk can reduce accidents, next compare the risk that BP, Exxon, and the fracking industry face to continue to provide energy sources, and finally how ethical leadership can help the oil and gas industry manage risk. The structure of business ethics is voluntary, legal, and core practices. BP and Exxon had an obligation to act ethically in all three areas. Exxon s 3rd mate was not license to pilot through Prince William Sound. The captain was drunk and asleep and when he was awake and in charge he ignored the Coast Guard s recommendations. Exxon knew the captain had issues with alcohol. The company hired to do the clean up was ill prepared, had damaged equipment, and they also did not have enough equipment to handle the spill. By all appearance BP presented an image... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... BP and Exxon have had to pay billions of dollars for damages, clean up and fines. Unfortunately risk to drill for oil and gas will continue as will risk associate with fracking. Oil and gas are non renewal energy sources. When they are gone, they are gone. To me this is the biggest risk of all. Some think that fracking is less risky than drilling, but there are many unanswered questions associated with fracking. Earthquakes in fracking areas are on the rise. The gas is in the ground for a reason and by design, and to remove it without regard for safety considerations of replacing gas with liquid is ... Different Forms of Power Presented in My Last Duchess, A Woman to Her Lover and La Belle Dame Sans Merci Amongst the three love poems examined in this essay, the theme of male or female power in relationships pervades throughout. The views of the speakers are expressed and defined through literary and poetic techniques. This gives the reader an insight into the speaker s problems and dissatisfaction with a relationship, due to an imbalance of power. However as we read on we learn that the Duke had limited control over his wife. He states that She had a heart…to soon made glad , showing that he felt she was amused easily and distracted away from him perhaps by other men. This is amplified further when he says She liked whate er she looked on , showing he believes she undermined his control over her and paid attention to other men . We can infer from this that the Duke was disturbed about his deficit of restrain over his wife and is deeply angered at how she thanked men other than himself. When Tokugawa Ieyasu took the power the unified Japan was just at the beginning, therefore, as the great strategist who was, his first aim was to centralise and increase power of the shogunate in order to facilitate Tokugawa control throughout the country while at the same time eliminate any potential threat. This obsession with order can be seen in any aspect of the Tokugawa shogunateand therefore, besides society and politics, in foreign trades. In addition to this, it is also important to say that the Japanese were interested in trading with Westerners, too. Therefore, these restrictions were made with anything but a xenophobic intent just to eliminate any kind of Western presence from Japan, but more precisely to preserve the control from a European aspect, the religion, that represented a highly unsettling aspect in the making of it. In fact, by maintaining trading with the Dutch they were able to know whatever was happening in Europe and in particular to receive information and technologies unknown to Japan. Washington At a time when the Black community is being afforded a free status, but not one of equality, many leaders arise out of the woodwork to appeal to the white governing body for social equality. The transition from the ninetieth century to the twentieth century gives birth to two of these leaders, Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois. These two men are both working to achieve a common goal, but the roads on which they re each traveling to get there differ significantly. Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. The opposing approaches of Washington and Du Bois are far from unnoticeable, and receive recognition from both sides. Whether or not these two dynamic leaders are intentionally attacking each other, one can only speculate that the vast differences in methodology creates tension within the arena. In Washington s Atlanta Compromise Address (D) he comments that the wisest among my race understand that the agitation of questions of social equality is the extremist folly, and that progress in the enjoyment of all the privileges that will come to us must be the result of severe and constant struggle rather than of artificial forcing. (D) This statement, delivered at a time when Blacks and whites have separate water fountains(J), almost one hundred and forty Black people were lynched(C), and forty five to sixty percent of Blacks over the age of nine are illiterate(B), directly condemns the blunt complaining with which Du Bois is aligning himself. Return criticism is illustrated in The Souls of Black Folk, written by Du Bois in 1903. The way for a people to gain respect is not by continually belittling and ridiculing themselves; that, on the contrary, Negroes must insist continually, in season and out of season (E) as written by Du Bois seems to be a direct response to the 1895 infamous address of Washington. With Jim Crow laws in effect, Du Bois position seems to be the more fitting and proper of the two. The ideology of Washington ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Essay On Wound Care Nurse Change Proposal Paper: Getting a Certified Wound Care Nurse Abstract This paper is written from the perspective of a nurse manager for a hospital floor and focuses on a proposed change to that floor: the addition of a certified wound care nurse. It begins by describing the benefits of a specialized wound care nurse, the existing conditions on the hospital floor, and how each of the stakeholders would be impacted by such a change. It utilizes Lippitt s phases of change theory to describe how those changes would be implemented on the floor, outlining each of the phases in implementing such a change. Introduction Wound care nurses play a special role in the hospital environment, and hospitals without those specialized nurses may not be able to offer the level of care as hospitals that have these specialized professionals. Wound care nurses, sometimes referred to as wound, ostomy, and continence (WOC) nurses, specialize in wound management, the monitoring and treatment of wounds due to injury, disease or medical treatments. Their work promotes the safe and rapid healing of a wide variety of wounds, from chronic bed sores or ulcers to abscesses, feeding tube sites and recent surgical openings (Nursing Schools, 2012). While it may seem as if any nurse should be qualified to perform these functions, it is critical to realize that it is a specialized field. In this essay I will discuss how mise en scene was used to portray the lives of the Mafia families in the 1940s and 50s. The mise en scene in The Godfather I, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, plays a huge role in how the film is perceived by viewers. Mise En Scene is characterized as, The arrangement of everything that appears in the framing actors, lighting, dГ©cor, props, and costume (elementsofcinema.com). The Godfather utilizes mise en scene perfectly. Coppola combined all the right components of a typical mafia film and made something extraordinary. From the clothing, to the homes, to the cars, and lighting; The Godfather was executed wonderfully. Lighting plays a huge part in The Godfather. The first scene opens with only one man talking, in low light. The relaxed lighting makes the scene intense and leaving the audience with a sense of fear. With the light just appearing on the man s face, the foundation is totally dark, highlighting the threatening tone of the scene. This scene uses the same lighting elements as chiaroscuro paintings would have. • 12. The Effect Of Temperature On The Reaction Rate Of... Aim: To investigate the effect of temperature on the reaction rate of hydrochloric acid and magnesium. Introduction: Chemistry happens everywhere, not just in a lab. Matter interacts to form new substances through a process called a chemical reaction. Your body lives and grows because of chemical reactions, whether by taking medicine or even a breath. A chemical reactionis defined as the process that involves rearrangement of the ionic structure of a substance. A reaction rateis how fast or slow a reaction takes place. Chemicals that proceed quickly have a fast reaction rate, whereas slowly proceeding chemicals have a slow reaction rate. There are many ways to increase the reaction rate of chemicals, for example temperature. If the temperature of the substance is increased, the particles would have higher kinetic energy resulting in more more collisions. A greater proportion of collisions results in a reaction. Magnesium and Hydrochloric Acid are the two chemicals investigated throughout. Magnesium is an important supplement in the human body as well as its uses in many lightweight products such as car seats, luggage as well as fireworks and sparklers. Hydrochloric Acid can be found in the human body as a digestive acid. Question: Does temperature make a reaction rate change? Hypothesis: If Hydrochloric Acid Magnesium were placed in hot water then it is expected that the reaction rate would be faster than the substance placed in cold water. Justification of ... A business donates a significant amount of money to a politician who then gives them a government contract they want in return whether it be monetary gain by way of the taxpayer or allowing them to break laws for the sake of their business. These practices come out of the pockets of taxpayers and many politicians serve jail time for them. An oligarchy is a form of government in which the richest people have the most power. It dates back to the time of the first colonies. • 23. Essay on Sigmund Freud s Ego Defense Mechanisms Sigmund Freud is perhaps one of the most well known theorists in regards to the study of the human psyche. Freud s model of the human psyche is comprised of three core elements: the Id, or the unconscious mind; things out of our awareness. The Superego, or the subconscious mind, and finally the Ego, which lies between the unconscious and subconscious. Freud proposes that there are nine ego defense mechanisms that act the ego uses in its job as the mediator between the id and the superego. In psychoanalysis, an ego defense mechanism is an unconscious personality reaction that the ego uses to protect our conscious mind from threatening feelings or perceptions. Displacement is another defense mechanism I ve noticed. If I m having a bad day or if I m mad for one reason or another, I notice that I d often take it out on undeserving people. Often I would use an angry tone with someone if I d just been in an argument, as my anger has not yet subsided. As with everything, everything in moderation . I believe ego defense mechanisms are not completely unhealthy, and that using them to deal with some situations can prove to be beneficial in the development of our personality. However, if one relies primarily on ego defense mechanisms and refuses to deal with circumstances head on , they will develop problems later in life. The construction of a star s image as a commodity of their societal myths and ideologies has the extraordinary power to exert messages so that even the smallest details become significant yet not overtly obvious. How a star s image is produced and then consumed can justify a society s relationship with that image and therefore aid in explaining the social construction of what society deems as their reality . The myths drawn from such slogans creates for females a sense of inferiority, where in Monroe s case, her body and sexual allure were her only resources. The ideologies circulating in society naturalized Monroe s image as being the cultural norm and something which women should aspire to be for the benefit of males. Marilyn Monroe established her temptress image through multiples of publicity shots. An important element contributing to this image, which is clearly displayed in this magazine cover, is her facial expression. Marilyn Monroe established a universally familiar expression, her face raised, mouth open and bared teeth, which became vital to her image. These peculiarities of her facial expression are signifiers which help to create her marketable and sexual image. Sub genres break down a general genre of music into a more specific and sophisticated type of that category. For example, rock has many different branches including soft rock, southern rock, and hard rock. Rock in general typically has a lead electric guitar with a vigorous 4/4 beat produced by the drums. However, in the sub genre of southern rock, a southern country rhythm is combined with a touch of rock and roll. Southern rock maintains a rock aspect by its amplified electric guitar lead and continues to carry a solid beat. A group of young teens are out camping and manage to avoid capture. The discovery that their friends and families have been captured ignites them on a crusade to do what they can to liberate their town. The key idea in the text that is significant to me is about the importance of strong teamwork and leadership in surprising circumstances. In the book the group decided that Homer should be their leader. He was a self appointed leader but no one had any objections. The commanding figure of Homer united the group and created a team, as opposed to a group of friends. That was Homers genius He combined action with thought, and he planned ahead. The group, under the guidance of Homer, began to understand that they either had to work together to live, or work separately, and get captured or killed. I began by drawing the circle, a Mandala, I just didn t know it at the time, and the trunk of the tree. As I began filling in the outline of the tree limbs, I found myself thinking about my own family tree, and concluded the limbs in the tree with a strong sense of the connectedness of each person alive today. I noticed that the tip of the protractor had actually pierced a hole through the paper and as I looked though the tiny hole I was inspired to turn the entire Mandala into somewhat of an eye, so I drew a pupil in the middle. I then chose to work with colored pencil and fill the rest of the page with colors. I used a brown color in the middle to go along with the eye theme, but then I decided to make the entry more intricate and drew squiggly lines in the next circle, followed by a complex kaleidoscope pattern. I wanted to progressively return the patterns back to a simpler and calmer design, and ended up with a yellow star near the outer edge, almost looking as if it is the setting in which the eye had been mounted, like a stone in a ring. For me, this gave the Mandala a very stable feeling, I feel as though without it, the image may begin to swirl. I also chose to set the Mandala into a softly swirling background. The first estate was made up of 1% of the population which was the clergy. The second estate was made up of 2% of the population. The third estate was made up of 97% of the population which was the middle class also known as the bourgeoisie or the peasants. This estate had little to no rights and was considered poor even though they were responsible for paying for all taxes for those above them who were wealthy. This unfair distribution of power was a spark in the cause for the French Revolution. The French Revolution was fairly successful in using Enlightenment ideas to reform french society, however, Napoleon undid some of the progress the Revolution made prior. The first phase the destruction of the old regime successfully used Enlightenment ideas to form French society. The Revolution began when the third estate broke out into protest and formed the National Assembly in 1789. This led to the Tennis Court Oath which promised to meet as many times as it took to create a constitution. In the summer of 1789, common people decided to save the third estate from the ruling of the king by breaking into the prison courtyard and taking over the prisoners and their weapons, this soon became known as the storming of the Bastille. A new government for France took place when the National Assembly wrote the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen . This was written to make the first and second estate recognize that the rights and freedoms they take for granted, should be experienced by all humans from the time they are born to the day they die and be protected no matter what. This declaration granted all men equal and abolished aristocratic freedoms which goes back to the ideas of the Enlightenment philosophers. By 1791, France created a new constitution that was set up by the Legislative Assembly at The National Convention due to food shortages and high prices that led France out of monarchy and into a republic. For the Cromulons, destroying planets and its inhabitants is a form of entertainment as they are hosts of an intergalactic game show where planets are picked and its inhabitants must create and sing a song in order to make it to the next round or be faced with watching their worlds end. Think of this episode as an episode of NBC s America s Got Talent, but with giant floating boulder textured heads, with egos that are bigger than the combination Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell and whoever the other interchangeable host is. This is also an episode where the citizens of Earth questioned their religious beliefs, eventually tying a thief, a gothic woman, and a movie talker to a bouquet of balloons, in hopes that they will float toward their newfound gods, the Cromulons, for ... • 44. Examples Of Masculinity In Love And Death In the early Byzantine empire, martial ability became the yardstick against which a Roman male s worthiness was measured. The hyper masculinity of the Roman army fed popular notions about masculinity, with the Roman soldier typifying the ideal man: he was physically strong, brave, fearless and self disciplined. These ideas were so pervasive that they were deeply entrenched in people s perception of manliness not only at the bottom of the socio economic pyramid but at the top as well. Even the Roman nobility, who occupied positions of leadership in politics and the military, had subscribed to these notions of virility, seeing the need to project themselves as real men in the public eye. One way that this manifested itself was how, until... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boris, the main character in the movie, is a meek pacifist with an inclination towards intellectual pursuits; he is short and small, with a gentle physical appearance. These traits serve as a cause for Boris to be judged as unmanly by other characters in the movie. This issue of perceived masculinity is tackled by Allen from the beginning: Boris narrates to the audience how, in Russia, his short height meant that he had never attained full manhood. But it is most pronounced in the scene where the news of Napoleon s invasion of Austria has come to Boris family, causing men to rejoice as they finally get the opportunity to taste the glories of battle . His family wants him to fight, to which Boris response is his lack of belief in violence and war as a solution. This induces condescension and laughter, and he is called a coward. Some begin to give reasons for why he should pick up arms and fight: Who shall protect his sisters? And what about Mother Russia? This was an essential component of masculinity as perceived then: feminizing one s nation along with the idea that men are protectors of women, for whose safety and protection men must engage in ... • 45. The Rose Vs. The Red Candle The song The Rose by Bette Midler is some sort similar to the chapter the The Red Candle. In the chapter The Red Candle it talks about a girl named Lindo Jong, which is forced to marry a boy from another family, that she doesn t like. In song it talks about different types of love gentle love like a flower, sharp lovelike a razor and soothing love like a river. I think in this situation in the book love is like a razor, because their love is not really and it is cutting her up inside. The part that is like the razor is Of course, now I know the tree trunked lady was the old village matchmaker, and the other was Huang Taitai, the mother of the boy I would be forced to marry. The song sort of similar to this scene, because it talks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Examples Of Narrative Essay About Military Life It s incredible how throughout the course of nine weeks you can take an individual from a civilian to a squared away soldier. From the pushups on the scorching rocks, having parties at the beach also known as the marvelous sand pit to making friendships that would last a lifetime the military has truly been a life altering experience. It s taught me how to triumph over adversity, to forget fear and that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Those nine weeks of vigorous work, pain, and an immense amount of stress was completely worth it. Get off my bus, lets go. Get moving you pathetic nerds! Go stand on the white line! Half right face! In this obstacle the main objective is to repel down a 40 foot wall amongst many other events such as maneuvering your way through ropes at high altitudes, climbing over walls or swinging onto a platform. I particularly remember the obstacle in which you had to hang upside down and make your way down an inclined rope. I was terrified because of the way the rope was slanted downward so I just closed my eyes. I was halfway through when Drill Sergeant Sanchez began shouting and shaking the rope. Open your eyes Private! What if you re out in the war zone. You re just going to be walking around with your eyes closed because you re scared? At that point I realized he was right. Was I just expecting to make it through training with my eyes closed? I had to forget about how scared I was and carry on with what I had to do. Once I got to the platform I thought that there would for sure be some push ups waiting for me, but I was wrong. Private, do you really think that you re cut out to be a soldier if you face your fears with your eyes closed? No Private! You have to face and overcome those fears. Personal Courage. Private.
