Wik Decision Case Study
This is a decision of the High Court of Australia which had been delivered on 23 December 1996. It
is also known as the Wik decision. The main issue involved was whether statutory leases
extinguishes native title rights. The court found out that that the statutory pastoral leases under
consideration by the court did not bestow the rights of exclusive possession on the leaseholder.
Hence native titlerights could co exist depending on the nature of particular pastoral lease. Where
there was a conflict of rights, the rights under the pastoral lease would extinguish remaining native
title rights.
Background
In 1992 the High Court of Australia found in the Mabo case that Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islanders had the rights to their land before

Schemas Observation
After watching the video demonstration: Schemas that was associated with chapter 8 I realized
that the first group of students were acting out the Schemas of a first date. I was able to make
this distinction because the male and female in the video were acting as if they didn t know
each other very well while seated at an invisible table, the 3rd student was acting as a waiter
which was made clear when he took their order. The only non verbal communication that I
observed in this scenario was when the waiter placed two invisible glasses of water down on the
invisible table, which confirmed that the couple was, in fact, seated at a dinner table. The second
set of students were acting out a day at the movie theater, this was implied by the

Roles of the US Government in the US Economy Essay
How the US Government plays a role in our US Economy Fiscal responsibility is an important part
of stability and the government must focus on maintaining the economic stability. As we all know,
Government dept can quickly become a burden on the economy and weaken it. Macroeconomic
policies change credibility of the government and strengthen political institutions. It is very
important that our economy has credibility and stability because it s vital to us Americans long

A weak fiscal position can cause weak government ability to provide security for property rights,
and makes it harder to borrow in the face of security crisis s. Citizens receive value from
government s role in making and enforcing laws that give citizens the opportunity to freely pursue
opportunities. The US is a developed economy but don t mean its government doesn t need to retake
reform measures. Having an orderly governing body allows private citizens to make long term
investment decisions about their personal resources. The government involvement is vital because
it provides the best opportunity to accomplish its national investment and growth goals through
entrepreneurial spirits of all citizens. Government activities have a powerful effect on the US
economy in stabilization and growth which is the most important are. The federal government
guides the pace of economic activity, attempting to maintain steady growth, high levels of
employment, and price stability. They do so by adjusting spending and fiscal policy tax rates or
managing money supply and controlling use of monetary policy credits. It slows down or speeds

I Heard A Fly Buzz-When I Died By Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson s carefully thought out poem, I heard a Fly buzz when I died, discusses how
death is an inevitable experience that everyone faces. Dickinson is a well known poet for writing
about death and topics relating to death. The set up of the poem conveys an atmosphere in which
someone dies. A simple fly s buzzdisrupts this quiet and heavy atmosphere surrounding the person s
deathbed which causes the reader to focus more on the buzzof the fly than the person who is dying.
The speaker is coming to terms with the fact that she is dying and tells of how she is giving
away her keepsakes and belongings. Her giving away her belongings conveys that she is ready to
die, however, just as she is about to pass, the fly interrupts again. The fly is a seemingly small,
irrelevant bug, but in this poem, it becomes the focal point to show that deathcan be
inconsequential. The speaker of this poem recounts her last moments before death experiencing
many emotions such as loneliness, calmness, and stress. These emotions make the speaker
notice the insignificant aspects surrounding her in the room causing her to realize that death is
not an extraordinary experience. Dickinson s effective use of symbolism helps create an
atmosphere in which the speaker is able to perceive her death in different ways. The Stillness in
the Room was like the Stillness in the Air between the Heaves of Storm, is symbolism for how
the atmosphere in the room was so still when the speaker died (2 4). The moments before death
are like the calm between a storm, and even though there is no rain in between a storm, the
atmosphere is still heavy just as how the room is when the speaker died. Once the speaker died,
she was able to notice how quiet the room was, and she perceived how different the atmosphere
was from before she died too after her death. As the poem starts to build up, Dickinson mentions
that a King is coming to the speaker s death, which is either death itself or in reference to a
religious figure. In line seven, For that last Onset when the King Be witnessed in the Room, the
King seems to be approaching her as she dies, and if the King is God, then God could be coming
to take the speaker into the afterlife(7 8).

The Neural Basis Of Conceptual Knowledge
Background: Although decades of neuroscience research has shed light on how the brain represents
different types of information, far less is known about the neural basis of conceptual knowledge.
Early neuroscientist in the nineteenth century proposed that concepts are anchored to sensory and
motor experiences; however, there has been much disagreement ever since [old grant 15, 28]. This
idea has gained momentum under the title of embodied cognition[OLD grant 1]. In particular, the
theory argues that over time our conceptual knowledge is refined and built upon by engaging
multiple sensory modalities. Later in development, previous concepts help anchor the instantiation
of new memory instances. What this theory leaves unclear is how the brainintegrates more than one
source of sensory information (i.e. supermodal information) to form a representation of a concept.
The brain contains entire areas of cortex that lie between sensory and motor areas that appear to be
convergent zones , that is they bind information from two or more modalities [3,7, 15, 24].
Thereafter, convergent zones then converge onto even higher cortices to form representations [13].
These supermodal areas could help capture the similarities and differences between semantic
categories, allowing one to understand the difference between a cat and dog , due to differences in
the objects attributes, despite their similarity as pets. Also unclear is if emotion effects the
representation of a concept, which

The Three Major Aspects Of Industrialization From 1865 To...
There are three major aspects of industrialization from 1865 to 1920 that influenced U.S. society,
economy and politics. These are urbanization, working conditions and laissez faire government.
Urbanization created cities who offered large numbers of workers for new factories. In turn, more
factories were built. Workers, both native born and immigrants, moved to cities looking for jobs.
Industrialism and post industrialism let to a decline in patriarchy within the family because of the
changes that were made to society.
The birth of the Industrial Revolution had one staggering advantage, even to the most distanced and
skeptical farmer: a living could be made that was not subject to climate changes. Therefore, a man
could actually be assured of regular, dependable wages. This did not, however, translate into a vast
emigration of farmers to the new cities. An economy based upon agriculture is altogether distinct
from an industrial one. The former is dependent upon the unpredictable elements of nature and the
weather, the consequences of which could lead to ruin and famine. Indispensable to this growth and
development were an unprecedented surge in immigration and urbanization after the Civil War.
American society was in transition. The industrial revolution meant more money and wealth for the
upper classes, especially the owners of large companies. It was thought that the wealth would be
invested back into new factories, so the Americans accepted this wealth distribution.

Equality For Women s The Business World
Equality for Women in the Business World I have a question: when you think of a successful
business owner, who do you think of, a man or a women? Unfortunately, when most people think of
a success they automatically think of a man because society has instilled in us that men have the
most power. There has been improvement already made towards business women, but
unfortunately working women still do not have equal rights. Regina Blaszczyk said in the last sixty
years there has been revolutionary changes in the status of business women. Between the end of
World War II and 1995, women have entered the workforce with larger numbers and have also
come in with managerial positions in American corporations( Women in Business A Historical

Professionalism
Professionalism What does Professionalism mean to me? Professionalism in my term means it is
someone who is very dedicated to their profession. It is an important and great decision to
follow by the rules and ethics of professionalism. If we did not have anyone that cared about their
profession it would cause a lot of problems in our society today. It could cause a lot of disruption
in your workplace. In order to abide by professionalism you must take pride in your job, percieve
realistic goals and values, and know what your expectations are. When being a professional you
must conduct yourself in a professional manner. You must learn how to treat others with respect
and be loyal to yourself and your team. Professionalism, more... Show more content on

Maintaining your military bearing is the similar as being professional, But also has another
definition to it, it means you are a soldier and should act like one at all times (being
professional). Also it states that if you act unprofessional you are displaying to the world that
the military is unprofessional. This is why you must maintain professional at all times cause
you are the face of the military. Perception is reality in a lot of peoples eyes, that is a big deal in
the military. In search of being professional you must, and I quote cross all your T s and dot all
your I s . Believe it or not a lot of individuals do not know how to become and maintain being
professional. This is a perfect to quote lead by example , be an example for others to learn from

professionalism. From a bit of research through internet and a few friends, and also from what I
know and have experienced from day to day. A lot of issues I have been through could of been
solved by just using some professionalism, for example, thinking before I reacted to certain
situations and conversations. Always carry yourself professional and people will think much more
highly about you and the way they percieve you. Even the little things count, like making sure that

Modernism In The Odyssey, By James Joyce
Modernism Ezra Pound, a prominent modernist writer, succinctly encapsulated the modernist
movement with his exclamation, Make it new! Modernism rejected the tradition and artistic
confines of the Victorian Period, though one clear start and end of the movement proves hard to
define. The lack of requirements needed for a work to receive classification as modernist
contributes to disputes about the origin and ending of the movement. Modernist artists, especially
writers, had great influence on the artists and art that succeeded them in subsequent eras of art.
Modernismremains one of the most important eras within art, because of it reaffirms of the
possibilities of human creativity by removing the restrictive limits of previous artistic... Show more

However, without the systems of art in the past, modernism might not have become so
revolutionary. The era s allowance of total freedom of creativity made it all the more unique from
the restrictive standards of art in the movements of the past. Throughout the late nineteenth century
and the first half of the twentieth century, modernist works found their collective identity in the
lack of similarity among the many works within the movement, contrasting with the works of the
past, which deviated from other in only certain details, while retaining the aspects deemed
necessary. James Joyce, a landmark modernist, proved this true by defying the typical structured a
short story and single narrative style within a novel. Modernism allowed creativity to flourish and
artists to thrive in the total freedom it

Recruiting Orienting a New Generation
The millennial s are coming. This can be a very shocking and disturbing thing to many employers
and managers. There is a new generation entering the workforce that many see as difficult, lazy,
and foreign. While the years vary, millennial s generally are represented by people in the United
States born in between 1980 2000 (Kuhl, 2014). This is a new generation of employees who think
very differently than past generations and have a very different perception of the employee
employer relationship. Many companies are struggling with recruiting this generation into their
workforce and even more companies are plagued by extremely high attritions rates within this
demographic. In this essay the ideas of changes to recruiting and on boarding... Show more content

If the company is bragging about its casual atmosphere, a very formal interview process may
contradict that perception (Lukens, 2014). Likewise understanding that my generation does not
plan on working more than is required so being clear about work expectations and being honest
about work life balance are important. My generation will check all of these facts against
employee reviews and will generally be able to find discrepancies quickly (Kuhl, 2014). Here
items such as the ability to telecommute or work flex hours will come off as very attractive to my
generation. The second focus point within recruiting is understanding that my generation
communicates very differently. Because my generation embraces technology so much
communication is expected to be short and immediate. Likewise my generation expects to be able
to utilize technology for the application. This means companies that utilize online tools such as
LinkedIn and email will have an advantage with my generation. Likewise my generation will not
understand why it may takes weeks or months to complete a formal hiring process (Kuhl, 2014).
Companies with expatiate hiring process will be seen as much more attractive. Lastly, power in my
generation is not linked to status or money, it is linked to knowledge. This is an extremely important
thing to understand about millennial s. Millennial s really do not value money the same way
previous generations did but they do value the ability to do something

Earth Science Class Vs Movie Twister Comparison
Earth Science Class vs The Movie Twister Comparisons
Throughout the movie Twister, directed by Jan de Bont, we learned that the movie provides
simularites and differences between what we learned in earth science class and the movie Twister.
For example, in the movie Twister, the characters talk about weather as being revolved around
climate change that involves swirl winds, wind speed changes, temperature changes, cloud changes,
and precipitation changes. In earth science class though, we learned weather is a short abbreviation
for the state of the atmosphere which constantly changes at a given time and place. In earth science
class we learned that storm chasers are reporters who go out to specific places like Daytona Beach,
Florida, and report plus broadcast breaking news of storms that ... Show more content on

We also learned In earth science class that tornadoes typically are more likely to form when the
sky is covered with cumulonimbus or towering cumulus clouds. However, in the Twister movie,
we learned that often times meteorologists as well as forecasters will use lifted index s to pin point
a tornados whereabouts. Also in the Twister movie, we learned that tornados are often times formed
from funnel clouds created by cumulonimbus or towering cumulus clouds. Another thing we
learned from the Twister movie is that a water spout happens when tornados crosse over water and
the water then begins the get sucked up into the tornados suck zones forming a water spout. In
addition, in the movie Twister we also learned about Sister Tornados which typically spawn next to
an already occurring tornado. Most Importantly, in both earth science class, and the movie Twister,
we learned about the Fujita Scale which is a scale that classifies rating tornado intensity, based
primarily on the damage tornados inflict on human built structures and vegetation. The Fujita Scale
if rated F1 F5 with F5 being the most strongest and most severe tornados,

Ethnography of Basketball Fan Culture
Ethnography of Basketball Fan Culture Part 1 Introduction As a basketball fanatic, I choose to
investigate how fan culture surrounding basketball has grown and has become such a fan oriented
league. Basketball has expanded and has become a global phenomenon allowing fans to interact
with athletes and change the way fans watch basketball through social media. Being a basketball fan
where you could only watch your favorite teams games on television and listen on the radio to
now being able to stream live games online with your laptop, phone, tablet, etc. There was a time
players could only show their personalities by interviews and newspaper but with social media
exposure, fans get to see their favorite basketball in another way from just seeing them on the court.
In a way, fans feel more attached to a player having to interact with a certain player on Twitter,
Facebook, Instagram rather then just reading about them, they get a first hand experience.
Part 2 Review Of Literature NBA fan culture and its interactions with players have revolutionized
the league over the years. Fans only had the ability to either watch on TV or go see the game but
now with Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts, there s a whole new way for fans to interact
with athletes and stay connected. A paradigm shift has taken place in the American culture where
fans feel a need for instant gratification. Social media now allows fans to fill their need without

Povertyin the World
Poverty evokes various definitions depending on the audience and perhaps the purpose or context
that it is used. Limiting the definition of poverty to a value judgment is of little use in terms of
agreeing on a definition for the purpose of comparison and measurement between groups (Sen
1979, p.285). A clear definition of povertysupports and indicates the process for measurement, and
as such would also assist in determining the focus and approach for development (Clark 2012;
Ruggeri, Saith Stewart 2006, p.19). In reviewing Oxfam Australias (Oxfam) Close the Gap
campaign, it is necessary to identify the approach that is taken in defining poverty in order to gauge
the scope of the project, the development of the approach used, and to quantify the change that
occurs.
Oxfam itself has identified Close the Gap as a human rights campaign that aims to close the life
expectancy health gap of 10 17 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait within a generation (Holland
2014, p.46). Vizard in her exploration of Sen s capability approach (2005, p.24), emphasises the
marriage of capabilities with human rights, citing poverty as one of the key exclusions to
fundamental freedoms and human rights, thus expanding the definition of poverty into a
multidimensional one.
Health is one of the dimensions included in the rights approach, which suggests that the abuses of
human rights result in poverty and are also a result of poverty (OHCHR 2006, p.16). Along with a

Taking a Look at Clinical Trials
Every medical innovation starts with an idea or vision, and goes through several developmental
stages, namely, basic research, translational research and clinical research before being able to
market the treatment. (4) This treatment can be a drug, a medical device, a vaccine, a blood
product or gene therapy. (3) The basic research is done in a laboratory, where cell function is
studied, and it is determined under what conditions the treatment could cause cells to function more
effectively. The treatment is then tested in animals to see the effect, and to test possible toxicity.
Once the treatment has been named safe for use in animals, it can then be tested in humans. (4)
Clinical research, or clinical trials, involves the testing of the treatment in human volunteers,
working towards the approval of the treatment to be marketed. (3) The research that bridges the gap
between studies done in the laboratory and clinical trials is then known as translational research. (4)
The main purpose of a clinical trial is to determine if the treatment is safe and effective for human
use, and is required by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before a treatment can be
approved. There are, however, other reasons these trials are performed. They can be used to
compare the new treatment to an already existing one to determine which is more effective, and to
determine different ways in which to use current treatments in order for them to be most effective,
easiest to use and provide the

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is an accumulation of marine debris in the North Pacific Ocean.
Marine debris is trash that culminates up in oceans, seas, and other sizable voluminous bodies
of dihydrogen monoxide. Its also known as the Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch and the Pacific
Trash Vortex. It s located in a high pressure area between the U.S. states of Hawaii and
California. This area is in the middle of the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. For many people, the
conception of a garbage patch displays images of an island of trash floating on the ocean. In
reality, these patches are conventionally composed of tiny bits of plastic, called microplastics.

In the article, The World s Largest Dump: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, it mentioned that the

matter originally comes from shore based activities such as fun parties at the beaches and picnics.
For example the cups that gets blown off the beach in San fransicso then it finds its way to the

disposals, drainpipes, and sewers lead directly to the ocean. Factories dump and Air pollution seeps

families. Helping people overcome obstacles and making the most of themselves is a very
rewarding and yet a challenging career. I ll have the chance to meet a variety of different people
with different problems from cases of abuse and neglect as well as supporting those in the care
system. I am particularly interested in working with children and families who often form the
most vulnerable service users, developing a professional and trusting relationship with them,
hopefully enabling them to participate fully in society. There are many different type of social
workers and what they do. Child and Family social workers protect vulnerable children and
support families in need of assistance. Assess client s needs, strengths, and support network to
determine their goals. Develop plans to improve their client s well being. Help clients adjust to
changes and challenges in their lives, such as divorce, illness or unemployment. Research and
refer clients to community resource, such child care, heath care and food stamps. Help clients

Chile Essay
Before we can begin to conduct business with Chile, we need to know some facts about the
country. Similar to here in the US, Chile views one s class based on their financial status and
their middle class accounts for almost half of their population. People in a certain class are not
always going to stay in that class; their status can change as their salary increases or decreases.
Those who are in a higher class, show their wealth by their appearance, such as clothing and

Speech On Grief And Grief
I know think are confusing right now Hamlet and your father just died but before you do

you re suffering from but presumably grief or grieving. The reason it is tough to tell is that it is
possible you could also have a mental condition called clinical depression. The reason however it
is more likely grieving and not depression is because before your father died you re but after
your father died, your uncle Claudius said you had change of heart , which is indicative of the
fact that before your father died you were not as moody and depressed. Griefessentially means that
you feel as if darkness and gloominess, a deep sorrow especially caused by death. Some of the
symptoms of the grief include mood swings, dismal and depressive thoughts and social isolation
and all of which you illustrate throughout your story. Your grief has been compounded and building
up since your fathers death. Your uncle says that it is weak and unmanly to wallow in your grief
for so long, and your mother is not sympathetic of your grief and that you should his your signs of
mourning.
So what should you do? Well for starters an excellent idea would be to move away from the
thing that is the root or source of your grief, which, would be your father and your family.
Claudia does not want you to express your grief because he views them as inappropriate and
your mother does not want you to make a scene, so by suppressing your emotions you are
making it worse. I know that your mother does not want you to leave to Wittenberg because she
believes you will adjust in time, but you are not going to adjust if the issue is shoved in your face
every day. The next things after that would be being allowed to express your feelings and be
melancholy and gloomy. You will probably move through the 5 stages of grief: Denial, anger,

Essay on A Reflection Upon My Writing
As a student, I write for multiple purposes. Purpose is the key for how my thoughts are dictated on
this blank white sheet. After writing this in my in class journal discussing my transition from five
paragraph writing to actual formation of thoughts without a specific format, I realized that this
process was a larger undertaking than I originally thought. Through endless amounts of essaywriting
the personal academic improvements that have taken place this quarter are indescribable in
comparison to any other academic feat made in my brief but fulfilling college career.
As a writer, I realized coming into college that my writing was not necessarily bad by any means,

As I received my rough draft with comments back from my teacher, my stomach dropped to the
floor in utter disgust. The amount of red pen on the paper weighed down three sheets to feel as
though I was holding an entire ream of disappointment in my hands. This is where things began
to get tough: The editing process. Taking my writing extremely personally, having to go into a
meeting with the teacher that gave me so much constructive criticism was not humbling at all, it
was just scary. As I sat in his cubicle, he was smiling. As I sit there sweating in anxious bitterness
waiting for him to tell me how he would run this teacher student conference, he smiled! Just as I
thought I was in the clear, he wanted to repeat the essay out loud so I could hear what I wrote.
Just as he said this, my stomach did not only hit the ground, but sank into the pits of Hell. As he

grammar and syntax errors. After the reading, a discussion about my writing style occurred and
this is where the ugly turned pretty. I had a list of corrections laying on my lap and for the first

sitting there realizing sentence by sentence spewing out of my mouth, a fountain of new ideas that
I could barely get down in time before they swam away. I had never had a teacher so

John Lennon Thesis Essay
My role in society, or any artist s or poet s role, is to try and express what we all feel. Not to tell
people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all (John Lennon

Lennon was always drawn into the arts, especially at an older age. Lennon was made into a rock

describes how much better the world would be. Lennon believed that the song would reach more

number one on the U.K. charts for weeks after Lennon s death. Imagine was voted second on the

athlete what they perceived their level of intensity is. The females consistently felt like they were
training at a much higher intensity than the males did. Peter asks Diane what are some examples
for coaches and trainers to change to make a positive impact on their female athletes right away.
Diane explained that in order to make a dramatic change right away, one of the best way is to
incorporate a dynamic warm up that includes flexibility, basic strength training and teaching
plyometric. Diane includes the work teaching because it is important that the athletes understand
how to land and decelerate in order to reduce any injuries and to have progression. Including basic
coordinative bimotor skills that include speed agility and quickness drills. is also important into

school or just go on with his life. Being the young boy he was, my interviewee didn t really have
a reaction to this decision, he did what his parents decided to do. That isn t surprising because
most children usually follow their parents, however; what made this so interesting was the fact that
his parents made the decision not to do anything about the actions going on around them. If I was
put in this same situation I would probably do the same thing my interviewee did, just stay neutral
and don t actively participate in any actions against the Civil Rights Movement. I would do this
because I am a person who tends to mind my own business unless something actually has an effect

collective bargaining. The Supreme Court reached a 4 4 vote in Friedrichs v. California Teachers

Starbucks Case.
Q1: Why do you think Starbucks has now elected to expand internationally primarily through local
joint ventures to whom it licenses its format, as opposed to using a pure licensing strategy?
First of all, the main point of this topic is that local joint venture gives control to Starbucks. In
fact, the company can be really sure that licensees are following its success formula. For example,
it allowed the company to the liberty to train the foreign working party by transferring some
employees from the USA, so they could teach them the way to deal with the customers and to

It could be said, that the quality of the coffee Starbucks serves is a competitive advantage. However,
a joint venture offers the lowest possible protection of the sustainable competitive advantage (SCA).
Therefore, Starbucks will have to implement strict guidelines to be able to keep their SCA alive
and well in the Japanese market. Starbucks partnership with Sazaby, Inc., an upscale retail and
restaurant operating company, they did just that, protected their SCA with a company that shares
the same type of SCA while being a focused differentiator.
The third is the benefit of knowing how well the US product will do in the foreign market
through local adaptation. Initially, it is that local adaptation which serves as the greatest benefit
of the partnership. Local adaptation looks at how well a US product will sell in the foreign
market. A partnership allows for the collaboration between foreign and US partners to develop a
product that will functionally be similar to the original US product yet also appeals to the
consumers of the foreign market. Starbucks coffee bar design seems to have been a good match
for the Japanese market. The coffee culture in Japan is that of a kissaten , coffeehouses with a
formal sit down atmosphere.
Local adaption is one of the main points that Starbucks has to face. In fact, in it financial report, the

Depression and Antidepressants Essay
Depression and Antidepressants
Specifically the serotonergic hypothesis and the action of Prozac
The cause of Clinical depression has long been a mystery to physicians and researchers. Many
different theories have been proposed, but no conclusive evidence has been put forth. However,
most of what we know about depression stems from the results of certain drugs which have been
successful in treating the clinically depressed. These anti depressants have led to the assumption
that depression is most likely due to a chemical imbalance (of neurotransmitters) which somehow
leads to the symptoms of depression. To try and write a paper on all the theories of depression

The pertinent findings will be explained, and their implications on future anti depressants will be
addressed.
Many clinical studies have been used to suggest a role for serotonin in the propensity for depression
or suicidal tendencies. Most of these studies measured the level of serotonin in the CSF in certain
individuals. Results established a link between reduced serotonin neurotransmission and aggression,
impulsivity, depression, and suicidal tendencies. Other data, using markers in presynaptic and
postsynaptic serotonergic neurons have shown that reduction in serotonin neurotransmission is a
biochemical risk factor for suicide (1).
Other clinical studies have implicated fluoxetine s effects on serotonin neurotransmitters, based on
the fact that serotonin is synthesized from the essential amino acid tryptophan. Patients taking
fluoxetine who were in remission from major depression were given a special diet which was
tryptophan free. This rapidly decreased plasma serotonin levels, and after a short period of time (as
little as 30 minutes) many of the patients began to have signs of specific depressive symptoms.
Later, the reappearance of more general depressive symptoms were observed in a majority of the
patients. Thus it was shown that fluoxetine has a profound effect on the neurotransmitter serotonin,
and decreased

Peer On Peer File Sharing
Peer to Peer File Sharing
Have you ever heard of peer to peer file sharing technology or P2P? What is P2P? According to
J.A Pouwelse. P. Garbacki and his article The Bittorrent P2P File Sharing System: Measurements
and Analysis , P2P is the transfer of a digital file from one peer to another. peer refers to
computer clients. This transfer can be as simple as the File Transfer Protocol(FTP), which transfer
a file directly to a visitor s personal computer through a server hosted website (Pouwelse, Garbacki,
Epema, Sip, 2005). File sharing create many ethical issues, but these ethical issues can be
different if we are looking at it morally, ethically or legally. Moral is an individual s belief about
right or wrong. Not everyone will have the same moral beliefs because they have different
background or culture. For examples, we can see many people streaming many document online
and or sharing this document and these people do not consider this issue a problem. If we look
at it in an author stand point we might consider this issue a problem since it influences our
benefit. On the other hand, if we are looking at a user standpoint, we do not think it is a problem
because we are not paying for the information we are accessing. We can conclude, that It depends
on your cultural belief. Ethic is a belief that depends on the society. The society or a group
determines if a situation is good or bad. An individual cannot change the ethical belief unless a

Quantification of гЂ–CrгЂ—^(3+) and гЂ–CoгЂ—^(2+)in a Mixture
Natalia Nole
Last updated: September 12, 2016
Purpose
Let s assume that we have two solutions, a clear and a colored one, whose concentrations and
identities are unknown. If we shine some light of some intensity towards them; some of this light
will go through and some of it will be absorbed. This is important because based on the amount of
light absorbed by the solutions we can calculate their concentrations. This important and simple
principle is known as Beer s Lambert law; which states that the absorbance is proportional to the
product of the path length, the molar absorptivity and the concentration of a solution. The product of
molar absorptivity times path length gives the value of K, which is the slope. (Equation below)
A = Жђ.Ж–. C
K = Жђ.Ж–.
A=KГ—C
Spectrophotometry is the quantitative measurement of light absorption and transmittance as a
function of a wavelength. The instrument used for spectrophotometry is called the
spectrophotometer, and the way it works is as follows. Let s say we have a source of light, which
normally is a deuterium lamp. The beam of light projected by the bulb will hit the diffraction
gradient, which looks like a prism. Diffraction gradient will adjust so that only a specific
wavelength will make it through an exit slit that eventually hits the sample, whose identity and
concentration is unknown. Light absorbed and/or transmitted by the sample will be sensed by the
detector which will be

Christopher Nolan s Memento follows Leonard Shelby in his vengeful quest to find the murderer

memories through tattoos, notes, and photographs. Throughout the film, time is distorted yet linear.
Scenes in color are followed by ones in black and white. There is a sequential order to the film, but
it is not presented in that manner. Timeis treated as a changing, personal force rather than a solely
standardized, detached authority. This creates a beautiful dynamic within the film, for beauty, I

me numerous times for the better part of the past twenty years. What makes this a concept is why
and how it occurs. I do not believe it is not spoken of enough, and I sincerely believe that more
people would be interested in knowing what exactly this condition is.
The conditon known as sleep paralysis is defined as the momentary inability to move one s limbs,
trunk and head despite being fully conscious. This can happen while falling asleep (hypogogic
sleep) or when waking up (hypnopompic sleep). In my case, hypnopompic sleep is when I suufer
this condition. Hypnopompic sleep is when a person becomes aware before REM has finished, ...

I did in fact fall back to sleep, and I didn t mention it to anyone, because for all I knew, no one else
had ever felt this.
While researching the topic of sleep paralysis I learned that it is not a new kind of disorder,
brought on by cell phones, smog, or global warming it has been around for centuries. Sleep
paralysis was once attributed to evil presences, and it was even referred to as old hag in
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. I learned that, in most cases, it is simply a sign that a person s
body is not moving smoothly through sleep (http://www.webmd.com/sleep disorders/sleep
paralysis). Most cases refers to hypnogogic sleep, whereas it happens to me when I am coming out
of REM sleep.
There is not at this moment a known cure for sleep paralysis, yet there are symptoms that are
attributed to causing it. I found in Scientific American that factors include: going to sleep while
lying on the back, and also when feeling stressed or experiencing a disruption in normal sleep
patterns (jet la attributed g, caffeine, alcohol). I found on Stanford University s website that good
sleep hygiene may prevent sleep paralysis. These preventive measures include: getting enough
sleep, reduction of stress, exercise regularly (but not too close to bedtime), and also keep a regular
sleep schedule

The Legitimacy Of Montessori Schools
Many questions have been raised regarding the legitimacy of Montessori schools and the capability
of students to effectively learn the same amount of information as those who attend regular schools.
Then again, there are also people that swear by the unconventional, self directed ways of a
Montessori school. These types of schools were founded by Maria Montessori with the sole
purpose of providing an innovative learning experience for young students instead of the traditional
learning style that is highly regarded by most of the US population. A Montessori classroom setting
includes integrated age groups, lengthened periods of time dedicated for discovery, and the absence
of grades or tests.
Montessori schools are appealing to parents that

Imperialism, The Middle East, And East Asia
Large busy markets, snake charmers, carpet vendors, and veiled women all invoke ideas of West
Africa, the Middle East, and West Asia, but all these ideas come from Oriental fantasies from the
nineteenth century. Edward Said the author of Orientalism said that Orientalism was ultimately a
political vision of reality whose structure promoted the difference between the familiar (Europe,
West, us ) and the strange (the Orient, the East, them ). The nineteenth century was a period of
imperialism and tourism that led many western artists to visit West Africa, the Middle East, and
Asia. Orientalist paintings depicted two major effects, many artists often portrayed something
exotic, which was racialized, feminized, and from a sexualized culture from a faraway land.
Another effect that artists mainly like Jean LГ©on GГ©rГґme often showed was an authentic
glimpse of a location and its inhabitants. Nochlin mentioned that many of GГ©rГґme s paintings
worked to persuade their audiences by carefully representing a preexisting Oriental reality.
Imperialism is a policy or practice by which a country increases its power by gaining control over
other areas of the world. French orientalist paintings in the nineteenth century were intended as
propaganda in support of French imperialism, portraying the East as a place of backwardness,
lawlessness, and savagery enlightened and disciplined by French rule. The emphasis on military
brutality in numerous Oriental subjects by

Weather In Life Of Pi
In literature, weather is a mechanism used to enhance and create mood. In the novel Life of Pi, it is
used successfully in this way. However, Yann Martel s use of weather in the story also portrays the
overwhelming commotion in Pi s subconscious as he undergoes 227 days at sea. The parallels
between the weather and Pi s journey of transcending his safety net, his normalcy, and his childhood
are evident throughout the novel. Weather is a representation of the wholehearted connection Pi
has with nature, as it often accurately represents his thoughts and emotions. Yann Marteluses
weather as a medium to encapsulate the reader and put them in the novel, but also to convey the
dire circumstances of Pi s mind.
In the novel, Yann Martel writes about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stranded at sea for months is not a situation the average Joe finds himself in. The story Yann
Martel tells is very unlikely to have happened to the reader. Therefore the weather is all that the
reader can say they have experienced. It gives them an opportunity to place themselves in the story,
in Pi s shoes, rather than sitting on the sidelines watching from a distance. It allows the author to
increase dramatics in the story while enhancing the meanings behind the situations that Pi is in.
Weather intensifies the erraticness of the sea and how Pi eventually adapts to find normalcy in it.
It shows Pi s reliance on nature and definitely plays in role in saving Pi s

Chinese Porcelain Jar
The art work that I picked is a still life of the Chinese Porcelain Jar. The painter of the art piece is
Willem Kalf. The era that it is focused on is the Dutch Golden era. He was born in 1619 and died in
1693. In this art work he painted a Chinese Porcelain bowl, he painted a table cloth, a variety of
fruits, silver and gold vessels. In other paintings he would use other foods like vegetables, be
would also use cooking supplies, like pots and pans.
For his still life paintings he would often use the same objects as in other paintings. He would
often use the color blue for bowls and jars. He sometimes used for fruits on his paintings, but
mostly repeated an orange and a lemon. He also used table cloths, glasses, and vessels, but in

The Insatiate Countess
Comedy and tragedy would not seem to mix well, as they have opposite conclusions of happiness
or sadness. To have comic and tragic plots within one play, then, can be argued as being too distinct
to be coherent. In The Insatiate Countess, however, it is the differences between the tragic plot of
the countess, Isabella, and the comic plot of Abigail and Thais, that strengthen the plays message
supporting loyalty in friendship.
Written by John Marston, Lewis Machin and William Barksted, The Insatiate Countess differing
plots might be attributed to the presence of multiple authors. Critic Giorgio Melchiori states the
play is based on Marston s draft, while Barksted s hand is more apparent in the tragic scenes,
Machin s in the comic (16). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
/ Hast thou no feeling of thyself and me? (4.2.41, 47 49). Realizing his friendship is better than
the hate felt by his lover, Gniaca pledges to Rogero, I have a soul / That blushes red for tending
bloody facts. / Forgive me, friend, if I can be forgiven (4.2.84 86). Thus, this friendship, in someone
beyond one s lover, is prized above even romantic love, which can steal one s rationality. Since she
is not grounded by friendship, Isabella is too passionate and becomes too hateful; it is this bond
between Gniaca and Rogero that allows them to see more clearly, and thereby avoid wrongful death.
Fortunately for Claridiana and Mizaldus, their insatiate hatred is tempered by the loyalty between
Abigail and Thais. Despite their husbands attempts to cuckold each other, Abigail and Thais
cleverly switch places, such that the men are sleeping with their own wives (3.3). Still, they think
they have cuckolded, and likewise have been cuckolded; and so rather than live with the shame,
they clamor to be executed for the murder of Mendosa, a crime which neither committed (3.9 4.1).
Thais and Abigail therefore save their husbands both from being cuckolds and from the more
extreme judgment of death, a fate they were stupidly willing to suffer to avoid that special shame
they supposed fell upon them. In this, being both unsuccessful at adultery and endlessly foolish, the
men are, in their ways, insatiate. While this would be

  • 2. Wik Decision Case Study This is a decision of the High Court of Australia which had been delivered on 23 December 1996. It is also known as the Wik decision. The main issue involved was whether statutory leases extinguishes native title rights. The court found out that that the statutory pastoral leases under consideration by the court did not bestow the rights of exclusive possession on the leaseholder. Hence native titlerights could co exist depending on the nature of particular pastoral lease. Where there was a conflict of rights, the rights under the pastoral lease would extinguish remaining native title rights. • 7. I Heard A Fly Buzz-When I Died By Emily Dickinson Emily Dickinson s carefully thought out poem, I heard a Fly buzz when I died, discusses how death is an inevitable experience that everyone faces. Dickinson is a well known poet for writing about death and topics relating to death. The set up of the poem conveys an atmosphere in which someone dies. A simple fly s buzzdisrupts this quiet and heavy atmosphere surrounding the person s deathbed which causes the reader to focus more on the buzzof the fly than the person who is dying. The speaker is coming to terms with the fact that she is dying and tells of how she is giving away her keepsakes and belongings. Her giving away her belongings conveys that she is ready to die, however, just as she is about to pass, the fly interrupts again. The fly is a seemingly small, irrelevant bug, but in this poem, it becomes the focal point to show that deathcan be inconsequential. The speaker of this poem recounts her last moments before death experiencing many emotions such as loneliness, calmness, and stress. These emotions make the speaker notice the insignificant aspects surrounding her in the room causing her to realize that death is not an extraordinary experience. Dickinson s effective use of symbolism helps create an atmosphere in which the speaker is able to perceive her death in different ways. The Stillness in the Room was like the Stillness in the Air between the Heaves of Storm, is symbolism for how the atmosphere in the room was so still when the speaker died (2 4). The moments before death are like the calm between a storm, and even though there is no rain in between a storm, the atmosphere is still heavy just as how the room is when the speaker died. Once the speaker died, she was able to notice how quiet the room was, and she perceived how different the atmosphere was from before she died too after her death. As the poem starts to build up, Dickinson mentions that a King is coming to the speaker s death, which is either death itself or in reference to a religious figure. In line seven, For that last Onset when the King Be witnessed in the Room, the King seems to be approaching her as she dies, and if the King is God, then God could be coming to take the speaker into the afterlife(7 8). ... • 8. The Neural Basis Of Conceptual Knowledge Background: Although decades of neuroscience research has shed light on how the brain represents different types of information, far less is known about the neural basis of conceptual knowledge. Early neuroscientist in the nineteenth century proposed that concepts are anchored to sensory and motor experiences; however, there has been much disagreement ever since [old grant 15, 28]. This idea has gained momentum under the title of embodied cognition[OLD grant 1]. In particular, the theory argues that over time our conceptual knowledge is refined and built upon by engaging multiple sensory modalities. Later in development, previous concepts help anchor the instantiation of new memory instances. What this theory leaves unclear is how the brainintegrates more than one source of sensory information (i.e. supermodal information) to form a representation of a concept. The brain contains entire areas of cortex that lie between sensory and motor areas that appear to be convergent zones , that is they bind information from two or more modalities [3,7, 15, 24]. Thereafter, convergent zones then converge onto even higher cortices to form representations [13]. These supermodal areas could help capture the similarities and differences between semantic categories, allowing one to understand the difference between a cat and dog , due to differences in the objects attributes, despite their similarity as pets. Also unclear is if emotion effects the representation of a concept, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Three Major Aspects Of Industrialization From 1865 To... There are three major aspects of industrialization from 1865 to 1920 that influenced U.S. society, economy and politics. These are urbanization, working conditions and laissez faire government. Urbanization created cities who offered large numbers of workers for new factories. In turn, more factories were built. Workers, both native born and immigrants, moved to cities looking for jobs. Industrialism and post industrialism let to a decline in patriarchy within the family because of the changes that were made to society. The birth of the Industrial Revolution had one staggering advantage, even to the most distanced and skeptical farmer: a living could be made that was not subject to climate changes. Therefore, a man could actually be assured of regular, dependable wages. This did not, however, translate into a vast emigration of farmers to the new cities. An economy based upon agriculture is altogether distinct from an industrial one. The former is dependent upon the unpredictable elements of nature and the weather, the consequences of which could lead to ruin and famine. Indispensable to this growth and development were an unprecedented surge in immigration and urbanization after the Civil War. American society was in transition. My generation will check all of these facts against employee reviews and will generally be able to find discrepancies quickly (Kuhl, 2014). Here items such as the ability to telecommute or work flex hours will come off as very attractive to my generation. The second focus point within recruiting is understanding that my generation communicates very differently. Because my generation embraces technology so much communication is expected to be short and immediate. Likewise my generation expects to be able to utilize technology for the application. This means companies that utilize online tools such as LinkedIn and email will have an advantage with my generation. Likewise my generation will not understand why it may takes weeks or months to complete a formal hiring process (Kuhl, 2014). Companies with expatiate hiring process will be seen as much more attractive. Lastly, power in my generation is not linked to status or money, it is linked to knowledge. Limiting the definition of poverty to a value judgment is of little use in terms of agreeing on a definition for the purpose of comparison and measurement between groups (Sen 1979, p.285). A clear definition of povertysupports and indicates the process for measurement, and as such would also assist in determining the focus and approach for development (Clark 2012; Ruggeri, Saith Stewart 2006, p.19). In reviewing Oxfam Australias (Oxfam) Close the Gap campaign, it is necessary to identify the approach that is taken in defining poverty in order to gauge the scope of the project, the development of the approach used, and to quantify the change that occurs. Oxfam itself has identified Close the Gap as a human rights campaign that aims to close the life expectancy health gap of 10 17 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait within a generation (Holland 2014, p.46). Vizard in her exploration of Sen s capability approach (2005, p.24), emphasises the marriage of capabilities with human rights, citing poverty as one of the key exclusions to fundamental freedoms and human rights, thus expanding the definition of poverty into a multidimensional one. Health is one of the dimensions included in the rights approach, which suggests that the abuses of human rights result in poverty and are also a result of poverty (OHCHR 2006, p.16). Taking a Look at Clinical Trials Every medical innovation starts with an idea or vision, and goes through several developmental stages, namely, basic research, translational research and clinical research before being able to market the treatment. (4) This treatment can be a drug, a medical device, a vaccine, a blood product or gene therapy. (3) The basic research is done in a laboratory, where cell function is studied, and it is determined under what conditions the treatment could cause cells to function more effectively. The treatment is then tested in animals to see the effect, and to test possible toxicity. Once the treatment has been named safe for use in animals, it can then be tested in humans. (4) Clinical research, or clinical trials, involves the testing of the treatment in human volunteers, working towards the approval of the treatment to be marketed. (3) The research that bridges the gap between studies done in the laboratory and clinical trials is then known as translational research. (4) The main purpose of a clinical trial is to determine if the treatment is safe and effective for human use, and is required by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before a treatment can be approved. There are, however, other reasons these trials are performed. First of all, the main point of this topic is that local joint venture gives control to Starbucks. In fact, the company can be really sure that licensees are following its success formula. For example, it allowed the company to the liberty to train the foreign working party by transferring some employees from the USA, so they could teach them the way to deal with the customers and to follow the Starbucks essence in their behavior. Starbucks partnership with Sazaby, Inc., an upscale retail and restaurant operating company, they did just that, protected their SCA with a company that shares the same type of SCA while being a focused differentiator. • 33. Depression and Antidepressants Essay Depression and Antidepressants Specifically the serotonergic hypothesis and the action of Prozac The cause of Clinical depression has long been a mystery to physicians and researchers. Many different theories have been proposed, but no conclusive evidence has been put forth. However, most of what we know about depression stems from the results of certain drugs which have been successful in treating the clinically depressed. These anti depressants have led to the assumption that depression is most likely due to a chemical imbalance (of neurotransmitters) which somehow leads to the symptoms of depression. To try and write a paper on all the theories of depression would be endless, as would be a study on all the different types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pertinent findings will be explained, and their implications on future anti depressants will be addressed. Many clinical studies have been used to suggest a role for serotonin in the propensity for depression or suicidal tendencies. Most of these studies measured the level of serotonin in the CSF in certain individuals. Results established a link between reduced serotonin neurotransmission and aggression, impulsivity, depression, and suicidal tendencies. Other data, using markers in presynaptic and postsynaptic serotonergic neurons have shown that reduction in serotonin neurotransmission is a biochemical risk factor for suicide (1). Other clinical studies have implicated fluoxetine s effects on serotonin neurotransmitters, based on the fact that serotonin is synthesized from the essential amino acid tryptophan. Patients taking fluoxetine who were in remission from major depression were given a special diet which was tryptophan free. This rapidly decreased plasma serotonin levels, and after a short period of time (as little as 30 minutes) many of the patients began to have signs of specific depressive symptoms. Later, the reappearance of more general depressive symptoms were observed in a majority of the patients. Thus it was shown that fluoxetine has a profound effect on the neurotransmitter serotonin, and decreased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This transfer can be as simple as the File Transfer Protocol(FTP), which transfer a file directly to a visitor s personal computer through a server hosted website (Pouwelse, Garbacki, Epema, Sip, 2005). File sharing create many ethical issues, but these ethical issues can be different if we are looking at it morally, ethically or legally. Moral is an individual s belief about right or wrong. Not everyone will have the same moral beliefs because they have different background or culture. For examples, we can see many people streaming many document online and or sharing this document and these people do not consider this issue a problem. If we look at it in an author stand point we might consider this issue a problem since it influences our benefit. On the other hand, if we are looking at a user standpoint, we do not think it is a problem because we are not paying for the information we are accessing. • 37. Questions On The Quantification Of Light Absorption And... Quantification of гЂ–CrгЂ—^(3+) and гЂ–CoгЂ—^(2+)in a Mixture Natalia Nole Last updated: September 12, 2016 Purpose Let s assume that we have two solutions, a clear and a colored one, whose concentrations and identities are unknown. If we shine some light of some intensity towards them; some of this light will go through and some of it will be absorbed. This is important because based on the amount of light absorbed by the solutions we can calculate their concentrations. This important and simple principle is known as Beer s Lambert law; which states that the absorbance is proportional to the product of the path length, the molar absorptivity and the concentration of a solution. The product of molar absorptivity times path length gives the value of K, which is the slope. (Equation below) A = Жђ.Ж–. C K = Жђ.Ж–. A=KГ—C Spectrophotometry is the quantitative measurement of light absorption and transmittance as a function of a wavelength. The instrument used for spectrophotometry is called the spectrophotometer, and the way it works is as follows. Let s say we have a source of light, which normally is a deuterium lamp. The beam of light projected by the bulb will hit the diffraction gradient, which looks like a prism. Diffraction gradient will adjust so that only a specific wavelength will make it through an exit slit that eventually hits the sample, whose identity and concentration is unknown. Light absorbed and/or transmitted by the sample will be sensed by the detector which will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Imperialism, The Middle East, And East Asia Large busy markets, snake charmers, carpet vendors, and veiled women all invoke ideas of West Africa, the Middle East, and West Asia, but all these ideas come from Oriental fantasies from the nineteenth century. Edward Said the author of Orientalism said that Orientalism was ultimately a political vision of reality whose structure promoted the difference between the familiar (Europe, West, us ) and the strange (the Orient, the East, them ). The nineteenth century was a period of imperialism and tourism that led many western artists to visit West Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Orientalist paintings depicted two major effects, many artists often portrayed something exotic, which was racialized, feminized, and from a sexualized culture from a faraway land. Another effect that artists mainly like Jean LГ©on GГ©rГґme often showed was an authentic glimpse of a location and its inhabitants.
