3. INTRODUCTION
Medicinal plants are an important
therapeutic aid for humankind. Medicinal
herbs contain substances that can be used
for therapeutic purpose. A lot of research
work has been carried out on some
medicinal herbs and they have various
therapeutic activity over site like nervous
system, respiratory, digestive and urinary
system and others.

• What is diabetic ?
• Diabetes or Madhumeha is a disease, where improper
functioning of insulin resulting increasing sugar level in the body.
It may cause heart problem, kidney failure, blurred vision if not
treated timely.

Types
Type 1
Diabetes mellitus,
is a disease caused
by the lack of
insulin.
Type 2
Diabetes
mellitus, is a
disease caused
by resistance of
insulin by cells.

5. HOME REMEDIES FOR DIABETES 5
Coccinia indica (Ivy gourd) is
commonly found in the southern
Indian state of Kerala. It have the
ability to reduce the hyperglycaemia
and it help in regulating of sugar
metabolism.
Emblica officinalis or amla have
several health benefit. It helps to
balancing sugar levels in our
bloodstream. Amla increases the
activity of pancreas, which helps in
production of insulin.

Indian lilac or Neem is beneficial in
the treating diabetes. It can maintain
blood sugar levels by stimulating
insulin activity .
Green tea is a type of tea that is made
from Camellia sinensis leaves. The
antioxidants present in green tea help
reduce the effects of insulin resistance
by decreasing the digestion and
absorption of carbohydrates.

Consuming tea with fresh mango leaves
can do wonders for people with
diabetes. We need 15 mango leaves, boil
it for at least 15 minutes and drink it on
an empty stomach. Drink it at least once
in a day to balance sugar levels the
bloodstream.
Black Pum or jamun are highly

diabetes patients. The fruit contains
antioxidants such as ellagic acid,
hydrolysable tannins, etc. It help to

For people with diabetes, the risk of dehydration is greater. To get
rid of the glucose, the kidneys will try to pass it out through the
urine, but it takes water. So, taking more water is helpful for
diabetes patients.

• Once in time, indigenous remedies were used for the treatment
of diabetes mellitus. These remedies from the medicinal plants
are used with success to treat this disease. Its are considered to
be non-toxic and free from side effects compared to a synthetic
one.
