Mr. Paul Smith will defend his dissertation titled "Multizoom Activity Recognition Using Machine Learning" on November 21, 2005 at 10:00 am in room CSB 232. His dissertation presents a system for detecting events in video using a multiview approach to detect and track heads and hands across cameras. It then demonstrates a machine learning algorithm called TemporalBoost that can recognize events using activity features extracted from multiple zoom levels. Mr. Smith received his B.Sc. from the University of Central Florida in 2000 and M.Sc. from the same institution in 2002. His dissertation committee is chaired by Drs. Mubarak Shah and Niels da Vitoria Lobo.
