Ancient Egyptian literary compositions were generally written on papyrus paper, but much of it has not survived the elements over time. Only nine literary works survived from the Middle Kingdom, and only seven from the New Kingdom and Third Intermediate Period combined. However, these surviving works, along with fragments of others, demonstrate the genius of Ancient Egyptian literature. Many works written in the later Demotic phase of Egyptian are still being edited for publication today.
