A survey was conducted of students ages 13 to 20 about their digital footprint and internet usage. It found that most respondents were female and that students began using computing devices between ages 4 to 8 and accessing the internet between ages 10 to 12. Most students spent over 5 hours per day connected online using social networks and communication tools like WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube. While over 50% of parents were aware of their children's social media use, over 40% never checked what their children did online. However, over 90% of parents talked to their children about internet safety.
