This document discusses analysis of the surface thermal behavior of work rolls in the hot rolling process using different cooling techniques. It presents a literature review on work roll analysis and jet impingement heat transfer analysis from previous research. The study aims to model and analyze the temperature distribution of work roll surfaces under cooling with a hose pipe and nozzle using ANSYS simulation software. The results show more uniform temperature distribution throughout the roller volume of 60-70°C when using a nozzle compared to 105°C at the bite region cooling with a hose pipe. Uniform cooling with a nozzle reduces thermal stresses and increases the roller life.

In recent decades, attempts have been made to create more advanced effective cooling technology for electronic and microelectronic devices, but heat dissipation is still a major challenge for increasing the cooling performance of heat sinks in a highly competitive electronics market. In the present analysis, the research is designing a new thermal design for plate fin heat sinks with hexagonal pin fin connected to the plate fins. A theoretical analysis focused on publicly usable computational fluid dynamics CFD codes has been performed to test the thermal efficiency of the proposed designs. Modelling done using ANSYS 14.5 and meshing has done using ICEM CFD software, simulations has done by using CFD FLUENT software. In specific, in terms of their thermal performance, hexagonal pin fin connected to the plate fins subject to flow have been contrasted. The plate fin heat sink was made of Aluminium and an electrical heaters provide a heat of 10W constantly to warm up a plate plate fin heat sink with hexagonal pin fin subject to flow of air at variable values i.e. 6.5, 9.5, and 2.5 m s .Based on the results, the analysis has shown that the plate fin heat sinks demonstrate superior thermal performance with hexagonal 3 pin fin subject to flow. The Nusselt number is approximately 1.32 times higher than the conventional plate fin heat sink without pin fin and 1.13 times higher than plate fin heat sink with elliptical 3 pin fin. Heat exchangers are used in industrial purposes in chemical industries, nuclear power plants, refineries, food processing, etc. Sizing of heat exchangers plays very significant role for cost optimization. Also, efficiency and effectiveness of heat exchangers is an important parameter while selection of industrial heat exchangers. Methods for improvement on heat transfer have been worked upon for many years in order to obtain high efficiency with optimum cost. In this research work, design of shell & tube heat exchanger with single segmented baffles and analyze the flow and temperature field inside the shell using Autodesk Simulation CFD 2015. When comparing the CFD analysis with experimental results, it was well correlation with negligible percentage of error. Thus, the series of baffles results in a significant increase in heat transfer coefficient per unit pressure drop in the heat exchanger.

HEAT TRANSFER AUGMENTATION IN STEEL QUENCHING BY SPRAY IMPINGEMENT COOLING ME...BIBHUTI BHUSAN SAMANTARAY
The present article discusses the experimental results on heat transfer characteristics of spray impingement cooling of a stationary steel plate. The eexperimental setup consisted of an electrically heated flat stationary steel plate of dimension 120 mm x 120 mm x 4 mm, spray setup, water supply and air supply unit. The effects of various controlling parameters such as air-water pressures, water flow rate, nozzle tip to target distance and impingement density were determined and analysed. The cooling rates were computed from the time dependent temperature history and used to analyse the parametric effects. The results obtained in the study confirmed the higher efficiency of the spray cooling system and the cooling strategy was found advantageous over the conventional cooling methods available in the open literature.

ANSYS Fluent software is used for three dimensional CFD simulations to investigate heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of six different fin angles with plain fin tube heat exchangers. The numerical simulation of the fin tube heat exchanger was performed by using a three dimensional numerical computation technique. Geometry of model is created and meshed by using ANSYS Workbench software. To solve the equation for the fluid flow and heat transfer analysis ANSYS FLUENT was used in the fin-tube heat exchanger. The fluid flow and heat transfer are simulated and result compared for both laminar and turbulent flow models k-epsilon and SST k-omega, with steady state solvers to calculate heat transfer, flow velocity and temperature fields of variable inclined fin angles (Ɵ = 00,100 , 200, 300, 400,500). Model is validate by comparing the simulated value of velocity, temperature and colburn factor with experimental and numerical results investigated by WANG [1] and GHORI KIRAR [10]. Reasonable agreement is found between the simulations and other results, and the ANSYS Fluent software is sufficient for simulating the flow fields in tube fin heat exchanger.

Numerical Analysis of Header Configuration of the Plate-Fin Heat ExchangerIJMER
Numerical analysis of a plate fin heat exchanger accounting for the effect of fluid flow
maldistribution onthe inlet header configuration of the heat exchanger is investigated. In this analysis , it
was found that flow maldistribution has effect on the flow perpendicular to its velocity direction. The peak
velocity occurs in the central zone of the header while the velocityalong the perpendicular direction of the
inlet flow diminishes more and more. By this investigation, the results of the flow maldistribution are
presented for a plate fin heat exchangerwhich is reduced as compare to theexisting configuration of the
plate fin heat exchanger.
NUMERICAL ANALYSIS TO OPTIMIZE THE HEAT TRANSFER RATE OF TUBE-IN-TUBE HELICAL...Netha Jashuva
Heat exchanger is a device which is used to transfer heat between two fluids which may be in direct contact or may flow separately in two tubes or channels. We find numerous applications of heat exchangers in day today life. For example condensers and evaporators used in refrigerators and air conditioners. In thermal power plant heat exchangers are used in boilers, condensers, air coolers and chilling towers etc. Similarly the heat exchangers used in automobile industries are in the form of radiators and oil coolers in engines. Heat exchangers are also used in large scale in chemical and process industries for transferring the heat between two fluids which are at a single or two states. Main aim of our project is to maximize the heat transfer rate with minimum power loss. We know that with increase in Reynolds number Nusselt number increases hence the heat transfer coefficient. But with increase in Reynolds number pumping power also increases but increase in power requirement is more compared to increases in heat transfer coefficient. So there exist a particular Reynolds number or (Dean Number) for which both the curve intersects, which is the optimum point for that particular (D/d) condition.
Abstract:This paper deals with the thermal and CFD analysis of automobile radiator. The theoretical calculation has been done in MAT Lab by varying the mass flow rate of coolant. Modeling has been done in Solidworks and exported to Ansys for CFD analysis. The temperature distribution, heat transfer rate for different velocities of coolant to has been done for different tube materials such as copper, aluminium and stainless steel. The numerical results were compared and found that copper has best heat transfer rate and has better efficiency than the others.
Comparative studies on heat transfer and fluid flow in cored brick and pebble...eSAT Journals
Abstract
The article reports on comparison of transient heat transfer and fluid flow in two different sensible heat storage devices using Computational Fluid Dynamics. The candidate heat storage devices considered were cored brick and pebble bed and air was taken to be the working fluid. Same geometrical, material, porosity and boundary conditions, have been used for both the cored brick and pebble bed heaters, to compare the axial temperature history and pressure drop. The heat storage system comprises alumina, either in form of pebbles of diameter 6.5 mm, packed to a length of 0.455m in a 43mm diameter pipe, or cored brick of 43mm diameter and same length with through holes to have the same porosity (0.48) as that of the former. The conditions at inlet, outlet and lateral surface too have been taken to be same for both the systems. The fluid flow was considered to be incompressible with k-epsilon model to predict turbulence, and the thermo-physical properties of fluid and solid were assumed to remain constant. Simulations carried out for an inlet temperature of 465 K for velocities ranging from 2m/s to 5 m/s revealed that pressure drop in pebble bed to be considerably higher than those in cored brick, while the temperature history exhibited mixed trends.
