Analysis of digipaks
1. ANALYSIS OF DIGIPAKS
Digipaks are the cases which contain CD’s, used to promote
the artist, the album, and its music through imagers and
biographies (in some cases).
2. The digipak consists of a song list inside and
also various images of the band themselves.
The name of the band is featured on the
front cover of digipak.
The iconic ‘The Who’ logo
featured throughout the
digipak.
Also, the name of the record
label is featured on the
digipak.
3. In Katy Perry’s digipak, there is consistent
theme occurring – clouds and candy which is
what her album is about.
The front cover of the digipak features Katy
Perry as the main image.
Furthermore, there is song list on
the back of the digipak.
Additionally, there are two CD discs
(doughnut and swirl) which keeps with
the theme of candy and clouds.
Katy Perry’s digipak is very girly,
with light colours such as pink.
4. Beyoncé's digipak consists of a song list on
the insert, along with some artwork.
It also features an image of the artist. The image
of the artist is dark, it appears as if there is a dark
background because there are shadows covering
sections of her face.
The colour scheme on this album is dark.
There is a constant theme occurring throughout the
digipak – the use of dark colours and black and white
used as contrasting colours e.g. white writing and black
background.
5. There is a constant theme of light colours
running throughout this digipak. It gives the
impression that it is relaxing music and ‘folky’.
The insert of the digipak features a similar
image as of the front cover. Also, the back
cover features a similar image. They all
include windows of a building. The front
cover image looks like a shop of some sort,
the insert uses an image of four windows on
a building (same colours as of the front
cover), and the back cover uses a close up of
one of the windows from the insert image. All
three of the images look like the same
building just from different angles or parts of
the building.
It appears as though in the insert image,
the band members are sitting on the
window ledges hanging their legs out.
The disk is black which differs
from the natural colour
scheme of the rest of the
digipak.
6. All of the digipaks have a certain colour scheme of which they
stick to e.g. pop use bright colours, folk use calm, light colours
and R&B use dark, harsh colours.
Each digipak consists of some sort of
image of the artist. Beyoncé has a full
close up image of her whereas
Mumford and Sons are sitting in the
window where the audience can only
just see them.
Some of the digipaks provide a list of songs
which are featured on the album. Whereas,
other digipaks don’t provide a song list, but
instead provide more images or a biography
of the artist or a message from the artist.
