“Oh GOSH! Reflecting on Hackteria's Collaborative Practices in a Global Do-It...
Pop artists album covers
1.
2. Rihanna’s first album had her
name centred on the album cover
in order for the fans to recognise
her first album.
Her next album had an extreme close
up of her face only with the name of
the album at the bottom of the
cover. This shows that she is more
known so people will recognise her
album without having to have her
name on the album.
Rihanna uses dark colours a lot of the time
for her album covers. This is used to
represent her type of music in the album.
However, she does have the
‘Loud’ album cover which has
her bright hair as one of the
main colours; along with the her
matching lipstick.
3. Taylor Swifts album covers use bright
colours throughout all of them. Her hair
is used as one of the main colours. In her
first two albums, her hair is centred.
She uses bright colours like, purple,
blue, and red.
After her third album, Taylor Swift shifts
her music and style into more pop
instead of country pop.
In her forth album (when she shifts),
Taylor uses the colour red as a colour on
her album and as the name of the
album.
Red is seen as dangerous
and daring which could
give the message that she
is changing as an artist.
In her fifth album, Taylor
named it ‘1989’, the year
she was born. The cover is
in the style of a polaroid
photo which is what was
used in the 1980. She uses
pale colours in her final
album. It is an image of
herself but we can’t see
her eyes.
4. Michael Jackson albums use
all different colours: black,
white, blue, red, and green. In all of his albums, Michael Jackson is somewhere in them.
In the first three of his albums, he is in the centre of the
album. However, in the other two shown he is slightly
‘hidden’. In the forth album, Michael Jackson is covered up
but if you look closely at the cover, the statue is Michael
Jackson. In the fifth one, Michael Jackson’s eyes are shown.
Because his eyes are very distinct and unique, you can tell
that it is Michael Jackson’s eyes., therefore, his album.
He was nicknamed ‘the
king of pop’.
5. In all of Madonna’s albums, she is the
main image on the cover.
Her albums have a certain
amount of sexuality
portrayed in them.
In the first, second and
fifth album shown, they
are black and white. The
third and forth are in
colour.
Her albums
generally are
named after a song
in her album. E.g.
Like a Virgin, Like a
Prayer, Madonna.
6. In her first four albums, Beyoncé is shown
in the centre of the cover.
Her outfits in each one are quite
revealing. The first one, she is wearing
silver chains as a top. In the second one,
she is wearing a low cut top. In the third
one she is naked and covering herself up.
The forth album, she is wearing a fur
waistcoat.
On all her album covers, her
name is bigger than the album
name, especially in the first one.
This shows that the fans may not
know her albums just from the
name of the album.
Her final album is very simple. It is
called ‘Beyoncé’ and has a black
background with her name in bold in
the centre. This makes the album
cover very striking and recognisable.
7. In all of Justin Timberlake’s albums, he
is shown in some way. The first album
shows his face clearly so the fans of
‘nsync’ recognise him and buy his
album.
The second album shows his full
body and yet you have to look
closely to know that it is him in the
picture. This is done because the
fans will already know him from
his first album.
His third album is slightly different from his first two
albums in the sense that his eyes are covered up. The
album is called ‘The 20/20 Experience’. This is referring
to vision, therefore explaining the image of an opticians
equipment covering his eyes. The only part of the
album cover which tells us that it is Justin Timberlake is
the ‘JT’ which shows that his fans will instantly know
that it is a Justin Timberlake album from either the
image or the title of the album.
His forth album is part 2 of ‘The 20/20 Experience’. In this album cover,
nowhere does it say Justin Timberlake meaning that his fans will know that it
is him because he has used the same picture but changed the colours to
much darker.
