This document analyzes and compares steel and composite leaf springs using finite element analysis. It describes modeling a steel leaf spring and performing static analysis in ANSYS to calculate stress and deflection. The results are compared to analytical calculations, with a 5-10% difference. A composite multi-leaf spring is then modeled using carbon/epoxy laminates. Static analysis shows the composite leaf spring has an 80% reduced weight compared to steel, with improved load capacity and stiffness. Size optimization of a composite mono-leaf spring further reduces weight by 88.57% and thickness by 1mm.
