Idea 1 – Perfume Advert
For my first idea I wanted to do something I find enjoyable to film produce and research. In
previous units I truly loved making my TV advertisement ‘Barry M’. If I was to go ahead with
this idea I would want to make my advert different to my last one which was advertising beauty
products. Although I did enjoy making it I wanted this one to be diverse so people wouldn’t
compare them. After a long think about it I came to the conclusion that I did actually want to
base it around the same as last time (beauty products) purely because it was something I was
interested in and was easier for me to gain access of actresses.
Now I have chosen what I’m going to advertise I now have to decide what I want my final
product to look like although there will be improvisations along the way I wanted to start off by
planning it so I had a rough idea of how I wanted my final product to look like and to make sure
it fell into the right target audience.
As I have based this advert on a product I’m interested in and use daily I think it is important to
make it just as enjoyable to watch as it is to use the product and how the scent of the perfume
makes you feel, or even just portray the connotations of this in my video. I think the target
audience is essential before filming anything. I’m going to market my advert at young adults
around the age of fourteen to twenty five. I think this is an appropriateage range as many girls
wear a lot of the same beauty products nowadays. I plan for my advertisement to be shown on
several TV channels and specific radio stations. Depending on the success of my advertisement I
would love for it to be shown on popular TV shows. Through my research I have found out that
a lot of the more popular TV channels are TV shows that families watch and come together, a
great example of this would be, The X Factor. This TV programme has been a huge success in the
UK as it brings all family members and friends together. This would be ideal to show my advert
on as it is likely Young women will be watching.
I plan to make my advertisement 2 – 3 minutes long. Adverts are usually around 30 seconds
long and sometimes up to 1 minute which is usually too long. For my idea to work I am going to
make the duration of the video quite long. I plan to make it so long purely because I want to
display a strong narrative so it’s more like a promotional advert than an average TV advert. As
this is a long advert it may have to be shown online websites than TV. I have researched into
various other promotional videos for Burberry, Gucci etc. These adverts are long enough to tell
a short story, this is what I would like my advert to be set out like.
I’ve set my advert out to be a summer one (as summer is on its way). I want to use pastel
colours e.g., light pinks, purple and greens making it look very feminine and vintage looking. I
would like Gee (main actress) to be shown on the beach in a knitted cardigan and denim shorts
wondering along the beach showing her footprints in the sand and also her walking down
shopping lanes. It is going to be an anti-realist advertisement.
