Titolo lezione: Analisi Idrologica e Geomorfologica su base DEM in ambiente GIS
This document discusses concepts of scale and resolution in geography. It defines scale as the relationship between distances on a map and distances on the ground. Spatial scale involves grain, the size of pixels, and extent, the size of the study area. Resolution refers to the smallest detectable feature and depends on pixel size and the sensor's instantaneous field of view. The document outlines different types of resolution including spatial, spectral, radiometric, and temporal resolution.

The document discusses magnetic prospecting, which uses measurements of magnetic field anomalies caused by differences in rock magnetization to locate ore deposits. It describes how the Earth behaves like a large magnet and how instruments like magnetometers can measure variations in the magnetic field. Magnetic prospecting relies on differences between paramagnetic, ferromagnetic, and diamagnetic minerals. It has applications in locating deposits of iron, manganese, and other economically important minerals.
Dips 7.0 introduces several new features for analyzing structural geology data including 3D stereographic plotting, input and analysis of curved borehole data, kinematic sensitivity analysis, improved joint set analysis tools, contouring of general data values, and displaying traverse orientations on the stereonet. Key capabilities include viewing poles, planes and contours in 3D; entering and processing data from curved boreholes; varying parameters to analyze their effect on failure probabilities; calculating joint spacing, RQD, and joint frequency; contouring any data column; and plotting traverse paths.
1. The document discusses magnetic methods for groundwater exploration. It covers topics such as the earth's magnetic field, magnetization of materials, magnetic anomalies over simple shapes, and magnetic surveying.
2. Key points include that magnetic surveying measures variations in the magnetic field to locate concentrations of magnetic materials. The magnetic susceptibility of rocks can vary significantly and influences the induced magnetization. Magnetic anomalies provide information on the location, size, and depth of magnetic sources like dykes.
3. Temporal variations in the earth's magnetic field like diurnal and secular changes need to be considered during data acquisition and processing to accurately interpret magnetic survey results.

1. Soil slopes become unstable when the shear stress along a failure plane exceeds the shear strength of the soil. This can occur along distinct layers within a slope.
2. One defined failure plane is the interface between a sloping soil layer and an underlying impermeable layer. The overlying soil is prone to sliding failure along this interface.
3. Stability charts can be used to analyze slope failures in cohesive soils, accounting for soil cohesion, internal friction angle, and slope geometry.
The document discusses two Earth observation sensors used in the Landsat program: the Thematic Mapper (TM) and the Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+). The TM collects 7 bands of multi-spectral image data at 30m resolution, except for one thermal band. The ETM+ is similar but with improved resolution of the thermal band and addition of a panchromatic band. Both sensors orbit non-synchronously at 705km with a 16 day revisit cycle and 185km swath width.
The document provides an introduction to seismology and the study of earthquakes. It discusses the formation of the Earth and its layers. The Earth is divided into the inner core, outer core, mantle, and crust. The core is mostly iron and nickel, the mantle consists of silicate compounds, and the crust is made of less dense materials. Earthquakes are caused by the sudden movement of tectonic plates or rupture along faults. The theory of plate tectonics explains the distribution of seismic activity and ties together concepts like continental drift.
The document outlines topics for a drone training in Nepal, including aerial mission planning, flight parameters, types of missions, mission planning for different terrain, ground control points, flight planning for 2D and 3D outputs, and executing an aerial image capture mission. It discusses concepts like overlap, ground sampling distance, flying height, and how elevation changes affect these. It also provides examples of different mission types and good/bad ground control point distribution.
The document discusses operational remote sensing applications in India. It outlines the institutional mechanisms for natural resource management using remote sensing data from Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) satellites. Some key applications discussed are natural resource inventories, land use/land cover mapping, agriculture monitoring, drought and flood assessment, and the FASAL program for multi-crop forecasting using remote sensing, agrometeorology and ground data. National level inventories are done at 180m, 60m and 24m resolutions with finer scales at state and district levels.

The document describes the development of the Q-RAS plugin, which aims to simplify the preparation of geometry data for HEC-RAS flood modeling within QGIS. The plugin was created because preparing geometry data in HEC-RAS is time-consuming, and most HEC-RAS users are novice GIS users. Q-RAS allows users to digitize river and cross-section layers in QGIS and generate an interchange file for HEC-RAS with one click. The document outlines the motivation, previous related work, the main functionality of Q-RAS, and areas for potential future improvements to the plugin.

RDBMS PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
(Community Based Ecosystem Monitoring Network).
