3D SURFACE MAPS:
In mathematics, geology, and cartography, a surface
map is a 2D perspective representation of a 3-
dimensional surface. Surface maps usually represent
real-world entities such as landforms or
the surfaces of objects.

3D WIREFRAME:
Wireframes are three-dimensional representations of a
grid file. Wireframes are block diagrams generated by
drawing lines representing the grid X and Y lines (the grid
columns and rows). At each intersection of a column and
row (i.e. at each grid node), the height of the surface is
proportional to the grid Z value at that point. The number
of columns and rows in the grid file determines the
number of X and Y lines drawn on the wireframe.

VECTOR MAPS:
Instantly create vector maps in Surfer to show
direction and magnitude of data at points on a map.
The two components of the vector map, direction and
magnitude, are automatically generated from a single
grid by computing the gradient of the represented
surface.
The magnitude of the arrow changes depending on the
steepness of the descent. Two-grid vector maps use
two separate grid files to determine the vector
direction and magnitude.

BASE MAPS:
Map having only essential outlines and used for the
plotting or presentation of specialized data of various
kinds.
The function of the base map is to provide background
detail necessary to orient the location of the
map. Base maps also add to the aesthetic appeal of a
map.

MAP OVERLAYS:
Map overlays give you a way to combine any number of
contour, wireframe, vector, base, and post maps.
Draping a filled contour map over a wireframe map
produces the most striking display of 3D data possible.
