The document discusses how having a rigid business plan can actually cause a business to fail. While a business plan is important, it is also crucial that the plan is allowed to evolve as the entrepreneur learns. The author reflects on starting businesses in the past without clear exit strategies or the ability to strictly follow the initial plan. However, the constant evolution of the plans played a role in the author's successes. Ultimately, unexpected changes are inevitable, so a business plan needs flexibility rather than being treated as set in stone.

This has never been more true for businesses and careers than in this pandemic. Companies, departments, teams and people who are not AGILE enough to adapt to the drastic changes presented by this crisis will find it difficult to return to normal, much less thrive in their businesses or careers. Thankfully, AGILE business processes and concepts have been around for a long time. We simply ignored these concepts because the unexpected hasn't happened yet. For many people, the biggest impediment to success is their own self. Sometimes we simply need to get out of our own way with a new mindset. I know I do from time to time, and so do many of the owners and executives with whom I work.

Every startup encounters speed bumps on the highway of growth. It’s the people on your team who will enable your company to power through them. Skills and capabilities must evolve as you grow. You’ll need to navigate advisory and other boards, recruit well and have effective team communication and a CEO who sets the stage for the company culture—all just to set you up for that early-stage VC funding.

Perhaps the most intimidating aspect of leadership is knowing that in addition to playing an important role in a team’s success, leaders are held responsible for their team’s failures. 7 Ways to Reduce Friction Between Remote and Onsite Employees.pdfCenterfor HCI
As organizations prepare for a post-pandemic world, many are embracing hybrid schedules that allow some employees to work remotely at least part of the time. As a result, friction is rising at some companies between remote employees and those required to work onsite who are jealous of their colleagues’ flexibility. HR often is tasked with addressing that friction and guiding people managers who are caught in the middle. Strategies are specifically designed to minimize tension and foster cohesiveness between remote and onsite team members.

While hybrid workplaces are becoming the norm for many organizations, equitable and inclusive hybrid work environments are not, and this can cause problems for your team. An equitable workplace is one where all types of workers have equal and fair access to opportunities and resources.

Longevity’s Impact on Workforce Education.pdfCenterfor HCI
Is an organization responsible for educating its workforce? CHCI recently conducted a roundtable conversation to answer this question, discussing the five-stage model of life model and current job requirements. It includes education, work, education, work, and retirement. To support this five-stage model of life, federal and state governments are incentivizing education for seniors. Many technical roles required by organizations demand specialized technical and soft skills, not four-year degrees. They fall into the category of “new collar” jobs. To keep up with these changes, organizations are looking at new ways to attract top talent by offering technology apprenticeships as a way for entry-level talent to jumpstart their careers post-high school.

5 Tips for Asking for What you Want in Today’s Workplace Centerfor HCI
As the world continues to adjust to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has perhaps been no better time to ask for what you want in the workplace. Born between 1997 and 2012, Gen Z currently makes up 20.35% of the US population. The eldest among them are between 22 and 25 years old, so you can expect members of this generation to start trickling into your ranks more and more in the coming years. They will impact the workplace for decades to come. As more and more Gen Z enters the workforce, it is imperative that organizations educate themselves on what this generation values most in an employer. Hiring and retention strategies must evolve to incorporate those preferences and values.

The secret ingredient for diversity success is the kindness and respect that runs through its core. Empathy and respect not only for the plants and the earth but for people. "The Disordered Cosmos" is the most unique and original book in recent years. The Hidden Story Behind Your Organization’s DEI Data.pdfCenterfor HCI
Successful Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is more than just checking off boxes about gender and race. It’s about new types of workplace conversations, personal self-awareness, courage to call out micro-aggressions, organizational culture change, increased innovation, and a thorough data-driven DEI approach.
Great leaders know they wonu2019t always get it right, but they work with other experts, listen to their employees, keep learning, and set the intention to create a vibrant, healthy workplace and culture that embraces diversity. This requires tremendous courage and empathy but results in stronger, more innovative and resilient organizations more capable of attracting and keeping top talent.
Team lacking trust do not function well. However, there are three simple ways to develop trust at work. The three ways include; be honest, communicate openly and meet face to face regularly.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

An Excellent Business Plan Does Not Guarantee Success

Executive Coaching
Looking back, I am amazed at how many times I’ve jumped into a new business completely
clueless. For me, this ended up being a good thing. Did I have an exit strategy? No way! Was I
able to follow my business plan to a T? Definitely not. As I was learning, my business plan
kept evolving.
I didn’t know it at the time, but the fact that my business plan was constantly evolving played
a huge role in my successes. There were failures too, of course.
The fact is, in business and in life, you never know what is going to happen, especially in an
economy that is constantly in flux. In that sense, treating your business plan as though it is
set in stone is detrimental to your ability to succeed.
In the clip from my interview with Cornell University below, I talk about the four stages of
learning and how they apply to entrepreneurs, as well as how a set business plan can
actually cause your business to fail.
