Getting AND keeping energy to see fundamental organizational change through isn't easy in a constantly changing world. Becoming conscious of the real WHY of your change is a start. But there's more...
This presentation is the framework of a more comprehensive lecture on the subject given at the ABN Amro Dialogues House in Amsterdam, Netherlands on January 14th 2014 by Dirk Anton van Mulligen.
Dirk Anton wrote the book Geef je organisatie toekomst (Futureproof your organization) together with Kim Castenmiller. www.roadmap2020.nl
Please note: the two 'white' slides contain unique videos shown at the lecture itself.
5. Well actually there’s more...
“There’s only one
thing that counts:
do you have
staying power?”
Noel Coward
6. Just what is Energy by the way?
Energy
=
< Force
+
Information >
Energy can be blocked, dissipated, wasted
... or flow, recharge and be used effectively!
7. The most vital information:
WHY do we want and create change
7
8. Conscious capitalism. Because
going broke is hardly ‘sustainable’
Purposeful work generates employee engagement
“Just as happiness is best experienced when not
aiming for it directly, profits are best achieved by
not making them the primary goal of the business”
Gallup: 70% not,or even actively, disengaged from
their companies, which equals to a productivity loss
of 500 billion a year.

10. You can’t do it alone...
...nor should you want to
12. “There is a vitality, an energy
that is translated through you
into action. And because there
is only one of you in all of
time, this expression is
unique.
If you block it, it will never exist
through any other medium
and it will be lost. Forever.
You have to keep yourself open
and aware to the urges that
motivate you. Keep the
channel open...”
Martha Graham
16. The energy to make it to the finish
line AND still have your reserves
Sugar Spike = hunt for kicks, adrenaline rush,
big bonusses, short term extremes, addictive
and ultimately burning out...
Steady energy supply = being satisfied carrying
out work that‟s meaningful to you, durable and
renewable. Feeling fulfilled.
The ideal bonus: cherry on the carrot cake
17. Thank you and wishing you
the energy you need to
manifest the change you
envision!
And remember...

Editor's Notes
We’ve written this book because we want companies and organizations to be healthier places to work. To make the change by 2020. For economic reasons but first and foremost for social reasons. We believe that organizations still have a big role to play in our economy. One that cannot be played by networks. And that organizations can be places where economic succes, durability and rgeat plate to work go hand in hand. Freud 1932. and enriching by the time our childre Truly changing the MO of your company isn’t easy. This is no time for easy solutions, for lock stock and barrel advice from consultants. This is a journey without . Set out yourself. To help you on that journey is what this bookaims to do. Insights from people who’ve actually done it!We’re big advocates for sustainability and durability, with our focus being on the human side of things, not the environmental. Companies are made up of people. So include the whole human being in your approach.
Niet voor kleine incrementele verandering. Ook niet het zoveelste 1 idee boek of een hype ding. Fundamentele koerswijziging is hard werken. Maar dat kan ook leuk zijn en energie opleveren.
One of the big themes in the book. Seminars/in-house workshops for teams. It’s about seeing things through till the end. And to connecting the heart, with the mind AND the hands.
The people who see things through are rarely the ones that generate the most smoke at the onset. Remember the sugar spike? Staying power AND flexibility. That what’s we’re going to look into together
Slim trainen. Some short remarks on Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell: 10.000 hours to mastery. Always training towards an intent, becoming consciousExample on the power of informationof the man on a train with unruly kids... Or of learning you’ve won the Superball or Staatsloterij. Boy, will that piece of information generate some energy in your system! So today hopefully no dogmas but just seeing things from an energetic perspective.
Kudos to Mindbiz.nl for this Sinek exaggerates when telling people don’t buy what you do but why you do it. That only goes for a small slice of products and services. I want a surgeon who is excellent in his HOW and WHAT. Frankly, I don’t care about his WHY as long as he does a good job. To me, the WHY is much more important for yourself, for your organization. When you succeed in fusing your WHY with your HOW and your WHAT, then you’re in the best position to not only excell, but to really see it through. To have staying power.
Raj Sisodia and John Mackey in their book Conscious Capitalism. Conscious companies outperforming the S&P over a period from ‘96-’11 by an astonishing 10.5 to 1.Again see through the all to polished american oversimplicity to find a message which really is valuable. I seriously believe that this is much more important than any kind of social activism.
Make it coherent on all levels. No CSR window dressing, but a way of approaching life down to the corporate DNA. I use the word Coherent intentionally, because it forms the key to resilience, to having the energy for change.
One of the books main points is this. This seems obvious, but really isn’t. It’s vital and should be a conscious choice. Not once, but frequently revisited.
Different focus, not what makes you sick, but what keeps you healthy. Resilient. Focus on Generalized Resistance Resources. The ability to integrate changeHere again: combination of staying power and flexibility
You need stilless to find that out! What is going on!The industrial age has reduced man to uniform beings. Man had to adapt to the role, the function. This day and age it’s about the uniqueness of the individual and how they can best add value to your organization. It does take effort on both parts to create the perfect fit. But, as kim and I write in our book, this is the day of the Snelle Acht. The fast eight. Aiming for perfection is a luxury we cannot afford. As is mediocre performance. The succesful, adaptable, always delivers the highly effective fast eight.
Another roadsign towards your unique energy is your talent. That is the form of your drive. You’re nearly there... Talent is often what you love to do, get better at without having to push yourself. It close, but not identical to WHY. 2014 year of connection and relationships. That also goes for connecting your WHY with your uniqueness and talent. The talent approach to HR is illustrative for the change from function orientation to added value orientation.
Makes us initially uncomfortable. Kudos to Adam Magyar who developed this magnificent technique. Runs his gallery near Savignyplatz in Berlin. So What is really going on in the background of your life!
Don’t go for the spikes and the rushes, go for the long term effectivenessThere’s an important analogy here. We don’t just consume food. We consume information as well.
Back to the start of my talk. Remember. Blood sugar? Spike? That goes for more than just the physical side of things. Also for the mental and more spiritual side of life. It is equally true for consultancy, coaching, or even speeches as this or TED talks et cetera.Always beware of simplistic, superfast, almost miraculous solutions which appeal to your primitive unconscious. Great adagium: whatever you feel compelled to do, don’t. Use the feeling as an input to become conscious of what’s really at play. So do bonusses have their use? Yes, but not as a
