Here is a roundup of our favourite tips to keep
your skills fresh as we head into 2015!
Body Language
Smiling reveals a lot about a person.
If you want to look friendly and
genuine it is important to make sure
that when you smile you “smile with
your eyes”.
This means that your eyes will crinkle
slightly when you smile...
Fight or Flight
If you’re having a stressful day at work, try a
relaxation technique.
Take a few deep breaths and relax all of the
muscles in your body.
Tighten each muscle group in turn, start with
your toes and move your way up to your face,
relaxing each muscle group after a few
seconds.
Productivity
If you are really struggling to be
productive, have a piece of
chweing gum.
Research shows that the physical
movement of ‘chewing’ can help to
boost your mental performance.
Power dressing
Power Dressing refers to dressing in a way
which shows confidence in your own ability,
it will make people believe this and draw them
toward you.
This is useful in any professional environment.
Verbal Communication
Sentences can be perceived in many ways
through the use of emphasising.
It is important to make sure if you want to put
emphasis on something, that you do it in the
correct way.
For example, the sentence,
“I never said he stole my
dog”.
This can mean several
different things...
Written Communication
First and foremost, whatever you are writing,
make sure that it is all spelt right & is
grammatically correct.
Motivation
Treat yourself
Plan ahead and tell yourself that you will do
something nice once you’ve finished a project.
Whether that is going out for lunch or buying
yourself something new.
Knowing that you can treat yourself once
you’ve completed a project can be all the
motivation that you need.
Presentations
Slow Down
When people are
nervous during
presentations they tend
to speed up in order to
get them over with as
soon as possible.
This will show the
audience that you are
nervous and they may
not take you as serious
as someone who oozes
confidence.
All you need to do is take a deep breath, think
about what you’re going to say and add pauses in
between sentences.
Now that you are equipped with a wealth of
knowledge to kick start your career or refresh
your skills...
...you can progress into 2015 to have the best
year of your career yet!
