When John begins his Westward move, the crude, maniacal white man makes his
reappearance. The officer who gives John the information about getting to his new
post appears to be downright insane and apparently kills himself. The guide who

with Wolves). He, of course, is such an exemplary man that it s not ironic at all to
hear him degrading someone else.
From the beginning of the film we are given hints that Dunbar is not like his fellow
ugly Americans. When John and his guide arrive at the deserted Fort, the guide is in
a hurry to be away. He is nervous and uncomfortable and thinks nothing of leaving
without accomplishing what he was sent to do.

From 1900 to 1920 a political group called the progressives demanded change and
more government involvement after the gilded age where there barely was any action
taken by the government. While the progressives were becoming more and more
popular among politicians and people they brought reform and change to the United
States. The progressives brought change through industries, social movements and
the economy. The progressives, (as their name suggests) brought progress to America
that forever changed the United States for the better. Without the progressives
Americas change to more government involvement for the time being would never

industrial age was booming and factories were abundant among the United States,
progressives thought about what was unfair in America and came to the realization
that something had to be done about factory conditions. The idea of unfair labor

Owen child labor law which reduced child labor in factories for kids who were

A Child s Needs
The text starts with a story about a little girl whose very basic need to use the
restroom gets overlooked by her preoccupied parents. The parents are wrapped up
in their own conversation and concerns, with no regard for their daughter. While
this seems an extreme example of parents neglect of a child s basic needs to many
parents, it sadly is more common than it ought to be. I have two children and
understand the demands of parenting all too well. When children are very young,
like Sandy in the text, they are often a bundle of energy and taking care of them
can be physically exhausting. However, as draining as it is, a child s needs
(especially their very basic need to use the restroom, eat and keep clean) should
never, ever be ignored, no matter the circumstances. The parents in this story have
marriage issues, that is clear, but to let this get in the way of a child s need for the
restroom is neglect. I understand that some parents find themselves in a position
that they never thought or wanted to be in and how difficult that must be, but for
the sake of the child, I would hope that the parents seek help. I felt especially
moved by the story of Jimmy. Sandy was neglected by her parents who were,
selfishly, too preoccupied in marriage issues to notice her, but Jimmy was in a
position where his mother set a path for him in life at such a young age that it is
almost inevitable that this precious child will grow up to be exactly what the mother

Analysis Of Le Corsaire
Le Corsaire is a well known ballet originally choreographed by Joseph Mazilier to
music composed by Adolphe Adam. The ballet was first performed in Paris in
1856 but was made famous by a revival choreographed by Marius Petipa. The
original Le Corsaire, which is based off of the poem titled The Corsair by Lord
Byron. Many individual works from this ballet, such as Le Jardin AnimГ© , the
Pas de Trois des Odalisques , and the Pas de Deux , all of which are in our adaption
of Le Corsaire , are celebrated and performed independently from the full length
work. These excerpts are some of the most widely known and performed excerpts
in classical ballet. Many different ballet companies have performed these works as
well as the ballet in full. After dancing and watching our version of Le Corsaire , I
was interested in learning more about the story behind the movement. After
learning more about the story, I became interested in how the excerpts I have
become familiar with through this course fit to tell this detailed story of a pirate
and a slave woman. In this paper, I will share my interpretation of the story and
how it is shown through our slight variation of Petipa s choreography. First, I
began my research with learning the full story behind the poem and ballet. I will
start by briefly summarizing the story. Traditionally, Le Corsaire is split up into
three acts with five scenes. The ballet begins in a town square setting where slave
girls are being traded. Conrad, the leader, and his group of pirates arrive, and
Conrad immediately falls in love with Medora. Seyd pasha arrives and wants to
buy Medora, but Isaac her slave owner says she is not for sale. After presenting a
large compensation, Seyd Pasha is rewarded the girl, but with chaotic dancing
happening in the square, Conrad is able to leave with Medora. Act II begins with
Conrad showing Medora his hideout. He inhales its aroma and falls into a drugged
sleep. The pirates return to the grotto and attempt to capture Medora. While
struggling, she snatches a dagger and cuts Birbanto s arm. In the confusion,
Lankendem steals Medora back and escapes. Birbanto is about to kill Conrad but is
interrupted by the slave. Stunned and broken hearted, Conrad
