Compare And Contrast Art Essay
Writing a "Compare and Contrast Art Essay" can be a challenging yet intellectually stimulating
task. The difficulty lies not only in the complexity of the subject matter but also in the need for a
comprehensive understanding of various art forms, styles, and historical contexts. Here are some
aspects that contribute to the difficulty of crafting such an essay:
1. Artistic Diversity:Art encompasses a wide range of mediums, styles, and movements.
Comparing and contrasting them requires a deep understanding of painting, sculpture,
literature, music, and more. Each medium has its unique language and history, making
the task complex.
2. Subjectivity of Interpretation:Art is inherently subjective, and people may interpret the
same piece differently. Balancing personal interpretation with scholarly analysis adds an
extra layer of complexity, as one must navigate between objective comparisons and
subjective viewpoints.
3. Historical Context:Art is often a reflection of its time and cultural background.
Understanding the historical context of different artworks is crucial for a meaningful
comparison. This requires research into the artists' lives, the socio-political climate, and
the artistic movements that influenced their work.
4. Critical Analysis:Crafting a compelling essay involves more than just listing similarities
and differences. It requires the ability to critically analyze the artistic elements,
techniques, and themes within the context of the chosen artworks. This demands a strong
grasp of art theory and criticism.
5. Organizational Skills:Presenting a coherent and structured essay is essential. Balancing
the comparison of multiple artworks while maintaining a clear and logical flow can be
challenging. Effective organization ensures that the reader can follow the argument
without becoming overwhelmed.
Despite these challenges, the process of writing a "Compare and Contrast Art Essay" can be
immensely rewarding. It allows the writer to delve deep into the intricacies of artistic expression,
fostering a greater appreciation for the richness and diversity of human creativity.

Asch Opinions And Social Pressure Summary
The article Opinions and Social Pressure by Solomon E Asch is about how people
conform to social norms and how social learning is a large part of everyday life.
Asch begins by explaining how social norms and pressures allow people to learn how
to function within society from learning a language to understanding cultural aspects.
The majority of the article describes series of experiments in which subjects are
asked to match lines of the same size. The experiments presented throughout the
article describe different settings and independent variables. The majority of the
experiments conclude that people conform to the majority s opinion to different
degrees regardless of whether it is correct or not. However, situations in which they

The Diet Of The Atkins Diet
A physician by the name of Robert Atkins started the Atkins Diet in 1972 after he
stumbled upon a study he read in the Journal of the American Medical Association
about weight reduction through the elimination of sugar and starch. At the time he
was overweight and decided to implement this study into his own life and ended up
losing a significant amount of weight. This led him to promoting the diet in his own
series of books. The overall premise of the diet is to start with limiting the number of
carbohydrates being consumed while eating as much fat and protein you want. Then,
gradually increasing the amount of healthy carbohydrates consumed. There are 4
phases to the Atkins diet: Induction, Ongoing Weight Loss, Pre Maintenance, and...

The second phase of the Atkins diet is Ongoing Weight Loss where you slowly
increase the amount of carbohydrates in your diet. Essentially you add 5 grams of
carbs to your diet every week until you reach a point where you aren t gaining or
losing weight (Atkins, 2002). The third phase of the diet is Pre Maintenance in which
carbohydrate intake is slightly increased again. However, this time the increase is
significant enough that the body is no longer in a state of ketosis. The key here is to
find a maximum level of carbohydrates you can consume without gaining weight
(Atkins, 2002). Lifetime Maintenance is the final phase of the Atkins diet. In this
phase you are expected to carry out the habits acquired from the previous phases. If
you find yourself gaining weight again then you can revert back to one of the
previous phases. This is a permanent lifestyle you need to adapt in order to carry on
with the progress you made so far (Atkins, 2002). The main reason we are limiting
carbohydrates in the first place is to control the release of insulin by the pancreas.
Carbohydrates are responsible for raising insulin levels, which in turn promotes
glucose uptake by the cells. On the other hand, insulin initiates a pathway that inhibits
fat breakdown and at the same time promotes synthesis of fatty acid, cholesterol, and
glycogen. Therefore, elevated levels of insulin are associated with cardiovascular
disease.
Worlds Of Wonder In The Northern Colonies Summary
In David D. Hall s essay Worlds of Wonder in the Northern Colonies and T.H. Breen
s Worlds of Goods in the Northern Colonies; the argument of the settler s views or
main objective on the land is put to question. David D. Hall supports the idea that
religion was deeply rooted in the early settlers while T.H. Breen supports the idea
that the early Americans only concern was becoming an empire of goods. While the
two hold factual evidence to this argument, David D. Hall proves to be the most
reliable due to its religious reliability of tradition.
Worlds of Wonder in the Northern Colonies depicts the deeply rooted religious views
within the early settlers by quickly relating it to the Deuteronomic Formula. A

Being kidnapped by the Wampanoag Tribe and losing several family members to
the ambush, she wrote about her sufferings during the time. While writing about
her miseries she depicted the difference between the Native Americans and the
Puritans, almost calling them savages for their lifestyle. While doing so, with
every misery she experienced she connected her experience with a passage from
the bible. When we were come, Oh the number of pagans (now merciless enemies)
that there came about me, that I may say as David, I had fainted, unless I had
believed, etc. (Psalm 27:13) . In Rowlandson s account, she uses Winthrop s
approach to writing of her experience. Claiming her struggle and connecting it to the
bible (claim evidence) she reverted back to her religion whole heartedly to help
justify her misfortunes. What Winthrop and Rowlandson are essentially trying to
depict is the deeply rooted religion based community that was built to guide the new
settlers in their World of Wonder. Where it is easier to claim that everything good
and bad can be explained through their religion . Riches were in the minds of the
early settlers but religion was at the heart. Depending on what private venture the

A Summary Of Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Medieval literature is a passion that has enveloped me since I read ChrГ©tien de
Troyes
Lancelot during my freshman year. In this Arthurian romance, ChrГ©tien represents
Lancelot as conflicted a chivalrous knight whom one expects to find only in myth,
yet in violation of the code of honor, desirous of his lord s queen. I began thinking of
the tales of the Arthurian knights as more than legendary as potentially credible
historical accounts. Soon, I wrote a paper on
Gawain s rhetoric as a means to elicit specific responses in Sir Gawain and the Green
Knight.
Gawain s rhetorical strategies and their manipulations ultimately lead him to a deeper
personal recognition and self acceptance. This early exercise alerted me to the
pleasures of working with languages of the Middle Ages. My academic interest in
Celtic Studies was piqued when I learned of Ogam stones in my
Literature in the Natural World class. Ogam is not a spoken language, rather, a code
of inscriptions that gave the Irish language an alphabet and supplied the Irish people
with a means of writing on stone, wood, and other natural elements with relative ease.
Ogam is also found in many manuscripts, where it is both written and read in a
manner different from that employed when it is found on stones. As an aspiring
academic in Medieval Literature, I recognize that knowledge of the literature of
medieval cultures is vitally important. Irish literature, including
Ogam inscriptions and manuscripts, is therefore essential to
Chain Of Command In Vietnam War
Introduction
To be successful or victorious in any war, the military have to make sure that men
and women in uniforms, are well trained and discipline. Discipline is one of the
key factors in any operation. Where there is discipline, there is orderliness,
especially in the military. Combat soldiers are trained to kill, and defend
themselves. Following ROE will help them target their enemies better. For
example, in the Vietnam War, the Army operated under R0E, known as rules of
engagement. This ROE were in place to conduct warfare that will comply with
international and local laws within the conditions specified by high rank
commanders. However, if rules of engagement are not put in place properly,
followed or executed, it could be disastrous. An example could be the situation
seen in Vietnam, when the U.S rules of engagement shifted towards some soft
rules of engagement which caused a lot of American lives. A lot of the U.S
soldiers were killed..(The changing combat rules of engagement: what is one
American life worth? 2013). In any war, chain of command is very essential. The
chain of command is an effective way to maintain order and to assign and make
each accountable to a task. The same principle can be applied directly to ... Show

Westmoreland wanted to go with the attrition strategy, which will help minimize U.S.

Imagery and Symbolism Buried Deep Within The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock
In The Love Song by T.S. Eliot, the imagery and symbolism that are shown have a
deeper meaning than one may realize. At the beginning of the poem, Eliot uses an
epigraph from Dante s Inferno, which ultimately can be taken as Prufrock referring
to how his self doubt and 1over thinking are a living hell for him. Throughout the
poem, Prufrock is in a daydream state of mind, until the very end when someone
brings him back to reality and he drowns. In The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,
T.S. Eliot exposes Prufrock s insecurities and feelings in a way that he could not
have done himself by adding meanings and hidden symbolism throughout the entire
poem. There is a line that is used quite a bit in this poem which reads In the room,
women come and go, talking of Michelangelo. (Eliot 13 14) This is interrupted as
Prufrock being at a social gathering, such as a tea party. The use of the word
Michelangelo is used to describe how the event is most likely one of scholarly
presence where the guests are discussing famous artists. Prufrock does not fit in
with this crowd, as read in these lines And indeed there will be time, to wonder, Do I
dare? and, Do I dare? time to turn back and descend the stair, with a bald spot in the
middle of my hair (They will say How his hair is growing thin! ) (Eliot 37 40) These
lines reveal a man who is fearful and insecure about his situation, he wonders if he

drains work as they should, life is simple. You don t have to spend your day
watching your sink drain slowly. You don t have to worry about whether this will
be the day your drains finally give up. However, when your drains are clogged, life
is challenging. Things can get messy, to say the least. Hire a Professional to
Unclog Your Drains Once you notice your drains are moving slower than normal,
that signals you need to contact a professional. Slow draining water may mean you
have a clog in your drains. Even though you may hope the clog simply goes away, the
safer bet is to have a professional examine your pipes, and remove the clog if there is

Grudge Poem Theme
A poem has the potential to capture a large varied audience. It can communicate a
multitude of feelings and can highlight struggles in our humanity. Roberts and Zweig
when describing poetry state the more experience you have with poetry the more you
will develop your own ideas and definitions of just what poetryis (642). Readers of
poetry will argue extensively over poetic devices and themes because poetry evokes
such strong emotions and ownership. As I read the Jeffrey McDaniel s poem The
Grudge there was little doubt in my mind that his purpose was a truthful look at the
struggle of resentment. A poet may use several poetic devices to communicate his
theme. Each reader recognizes the devices that become important to their
understanding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem The Grudge sight or visual imagery is crucial to explaining the theme
of the poem. As I previously explained the visual imagery that I noticed in the
poem helped me to come to an overall theme of the poem. McDaniel s uses visual
cues like devotion to describe an extreme idea a person is willing to sacrifice for
(2). The speaker is using this visual cue to explain that when he waters his grudge it
is not the same thing as someone who follows their theology with complete abandon.
Another visual cue that explains the theme is when McDaniel s uses the word
bloomed (14). This visual cue is used to describe the actual moment when his hatred
has consumed him. At this point there is no denying that the speaker has taken his
grudge to the extreme and there is no coming back. From the beginning of the poem
when he is defensive and drawing comparisons between him and other characters to
the end when the truth of his actions are revealed the visual images help to draw the
reader in. This poetic technique of visual imagery was crucial when formulating my
conclusion regarding the theme of this

important factor is the Socio cultural . According to ( Chidrawar and Kramer ,2009

The Death Of Usama Bin Laden
In May of 2011, many Americans saw the death of Usama bin Laden as a catalyst for
renewed U.S. patriotism and a hopeful next step towards ending the Salafi Jihadist
movement. Why, then, is the world faced with an unprecedented amount of Salafi
Jihadist groups who prove to be increasingly more brutal in their attacks (cite)? The
counterterrorist strategy of decapitation, or the removal of a group leader via
incarceration or assassination, is a tactic whose utility is dependent on historical
context, group structure/composition, and general popular support. While the death
of Usama bin Laden renewed American patriotism and allowed the U.S. to exact
revenge upon the group behind the deaths of 3,000 in the 9/11 attacks, it proved
ineffective... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his 1996 FATWA, Usama bin Laden placed personal responsibility upon each
individual Muslim to unify and fight oppressive forces, particularly the United
States. With this FATWA comes the distinction of the near and far enemy, an
innovative philosophy utilized by bin Laden and Al Qaeda that illustrates the
overarching oppressive nature of the United States to Salafi Jihadist sympathizers.
Integrating this ideology into the Salafi Jihadist movement is particularly useful for
terrorist organizations, as their fighters particularly their suicide bombers are
ideologically validated for their actions, and are confident that they will receive a
reward in the afterlife should they strike against the enemy. Driven by Usama bin
Laden, Al Qaeda grew immensely from 1988 2011, adding on affiliates such as Al
Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and training militant groups in fatas in
Pakistan. The Salafi Jihadist movement and the groups responsible for its mobility
have gained international attention (and sympathizers), creating a strong base to
work towards the creation of the caliphate. What, then, was the impact of Usama bin
Laden s assassination by U.S. Navy SEALS in 2011 on the Salafi
Description Of A Man s Voice
We sat on a cheap wooden bench in the security room in the back of Lord and
Taylor, our bags lay on their sides, the contents spilled across the concrete floor.
Little white tags hung from the fabric, a few seams were noticeably ripped along
the side ribbing of the clothing. Computer screens encompassed the room, the
surveillance footage rotated intermittently from Camera 1 to Camera 2 to Dressing
Room Camera. The man s voice was barely audible through the wall behind me, as
he called my parents and the authorities. He came back into the room with the
woman who had grabbed my arm as I exited the department store, announcing that
the price for all of the products I had stolen totaled to approximately $1,300 though
he hadn t calculated in the damages of the torn clothing where the security buttons
were ripped out. My best friend, better known as my fellow thief, called her mom
to retrieve us. I used the thick silence of that car ride to prepare something
mitigating to say to my mother. When I delicately, respectfully, quietly entered the
foyer, my mom sat waiting, drilling me with questions. As I entered the foyer, my
mom, who had been undoubtedly stewing in her own thoughts as she awaited my
arrival, drilled me with questions. Why would you do this? Because it s fun. Who
made you do this? As if I can t make my own decisions and fuck up my life on my
own. How long has this been going on? I told her once before but in reality it had
been going on for a while. WHY? Why not?

Acceptance from the general population
Involvement in the process
Choice, control and independence
1.2Explain the changes faced by young people as they move from childhood into

Time
By starting the transition period sooner it allows the young person time to decide
with help what they want from adulthood and gives professionals the chance to
implement these things for the young person.
Choices
The young person is at the centre of the transition process so they should be given all
of the options to make their own choices regarding their future. With the aid of
professionals and family members this is more than achievable.
Outside Agencies
Outside agencies may be used to aid the young person in the transition process, these
may include child/adult social care, the learning disabilities team, CAHMS and
organisations like Grapevine.
2.4Explain how legislation and local and national practice guidelines affect the
planning of the transition for a young person with a disability from childhood into
adulthood. The Children s Act 1989 Section 17 of the Children Act 1989 places a
duty on local authorities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in need
and to promote the upbringing of children by their families, so far as this is
consistent with their welfare duty to the child, by providing an appropriate range
and level of services. A child in need is one who is disabled, or unlikely either to
achieve a reasonable standard of health or whose health or development will suffer
unless services are provided. NHS and Community Care Act 1990, S47

Impressionism And Its Influence On Art
Impressionism began in 1860 s in Paris when a group of artists refused to paint in
the realistic style of their day. These originators were rejected by the art society
and denied to show their work in exhibitions or salons. Impressionists did not use
the fine details in trying to paint an accurate replica of what they saw instead they
painted what their brains saw as the overall impression of a particular scene. Rivers
were no longer one whole body of blue and green, instead they became a myriad of
colors intertwined to give an overall impression of a river. Impressionismcan be
considered the first distinctly modern movement in art because of the way that it
turned away from the modern art convention of the time that focused on the fine line
details and instead centered on the sensory effect of the scene, the impression objects
made on the eye in a fleeting instant. This style of painting was best captured in the
outdoors, thus the artists moved from the studio to the streets and countryside,
painting en plein air (www.theartstory.org/movement impressionism.htm). There are
no lines in nature, only areas of color, one against another. Г‰douard Manet Another
aspect that made Impressionism revolutionary is that it broke with the traditional
salon style of painting by attempting to capture a moment in time as experienced by
the viewer. The way the light hit the water, the shadows at that time of day, would
never be repeated. The salon style was more pictorial of
Essay about Frank Lloyd Wright
Frank Lloyd Wright
Frank Lloyd Wright was a Nature lover and an architect. He reflected on the natural
world and applied existing styles to his architecture. He was born in Wisconsin, on
June 8, 1867, and died in Phoenix, Arizona, on April 9, 1959, at the age of 91. His
architectural career spanned two centuries and lasted for 70 years. During the last
year of his life he authored a book and was working on 166 different commissions;
when asked about when he would slow down, he replied when the ideas stop coming
to him.
Wright Lloyd Wright had designed more than 1140 projects during his lifetime, one

Many of those buildings were being developed in his mind while he was growing
up and spending summers on his uncle s farm. It was during this time that he
developed his love for Nature, to be a part of it. His love for Nature is dominant in
his earlier works dubbed the Prairie Houses , but can also been seen in his later
works such as Johnson Wax and the Guggenheim Museum. When FrankLloyd
Wright was just sixty eight years old, he was commissioned to design a house for
Edgar Kaufmann. Wright and Kaufmann went to the property to survey the location
for the house. Kaufmann liked to spend time at the water falls on his land so that is
where Wright decided to build it. Wright figured if Nature could place the boulders
over a waterfall, than he could build a house over one. It took Wright only three
hours to draw the plans for the house. The house consists basically of concrete slabs
balanced on the boulders above the stream, and the walls are slabs of the natural
rock surrounding the house. The house includes a pool that is built under the house
and is fed by the passing stream. Every aspect of the house embraces the Nature that
it co exists with, and the house appears to fade into its surroundings. the construction

early 1920s, called for Indians to boycott British goods and traditions and become
self reliant. He protested in 1930, when Gandhi led thousands of Indians on a 250
mile march to a coastal town to produce salt, on which the British had a monopoly.
He was arrested several times for his action and he had to struggle a lot because of
Britain s imperialism to help India gain independence. However, at the end, all of
his struggle payed off because he helped India create the foundation for
Independence.Gandhi s non violence movement was a success because it was
disciplined, organized and peaceful. He was willing to go to jail due to his Civil
Disobedience and he treated his opponents with friendliness and

In karst landscapes, if local topography sinks below the water table, groundwater
releases into the lower area, creating a spring (Hudak, 2000). Springs are often
found at structural, topographic, and stratigraphic discontinuities (Bierman and
Montgomery, 2014). There are two general types of springs, categorized according
to the type of aquifer from which they derive: (1) water table (also called non
artesian): flows through the earth from a higher elevation to a lower elevation; and
(2) artesian (most of Florida s large springs are this type): flows to the surface via
hydrostatic pressure (Rosenau and Ferguson, 1978). The relationship between
hydrologic and geologic factors that prevail in Florida contribute to the many springs
found throughout the state (Rosenau and Ferguson, 1978). The springs located in the

Fantastic Resolution Examples
I believe what makes a story the greatest it can be is a good resolution. The
resolution of a story is when most or even all the questions that have been asked
throughout the story have been answered, or when the protagonist gained new
information from the final event of a story (Dickerson, n.d.). A good example of a
story with a fantastic resolution is The Story of an hour. This story follows a
grieving woman with heart problems that just heard the news of her husband s
death. She is sad, but she becomes ecstatic when she had the realization of the new
freedom she gained from the death of the husband she rarely loved. The resolution of
the story is when she found out that her husband did not die. This caused her heart to
give and she collapsed

Political dynasty is evident when a person runs for an elective office who has an
incumbent elective official occupying a position in the government (Pamaos, 2012).
Political dynasty in the Philippines is very prominent due to the numerous lines of

with their families. Such is the familial love in Philippine society that some clans
have made politics their family s line of work (Santos, 2010). From the Aquinos, the

They documented the historic and geographic patterns in the evolution and profile
of political dynasties. According to Mosca, even when political positions are open
to all, a family tie to those already in power would confer various advantages. They
conducted the research by creating two indicator variables to characterize political
dynasties. The first one is called Postrelatives which is equal to a legislator who
has a relative entering congress after he did. And the second one is called
Prerelative which is equal to a legislator who had a relative entering congress
before he did. The results showed that the prerelative legislator had the chance to
occupy a position in the congress compared to the postrelative legislator. This
indicates that the more relatives that entered in the congress before the candidate
running for a position, the more likely he will succeed compared to the other
legislator who has no relatives inside the congress. An implication is that the
political class is partly shaped by the luck of previous politicians, and that holding
political power reinforces the effects of other potential sources of elite persistence
such as differing dynastic traits (BГі, BГі, Snyder,

1918) and to a very large extent; it influenced the involvement of civilians in several
movements of the war. There were several elements, both stylistic and technical,
incorporated within the propaganda, which created conceptions of nationalism and
anti national sentiment and involved different demographics such as North
Americans and women. All these factors contributed to the enormity of war and
increased the extent of people who participated in the war, whether it was in the
trenches at front lines or in their towns at the home front.
Nationalism was one of the driving factors of the war and the main objective the
propaganda of WW1 intended to portray through ... Show more content on

Images of women were often exploited in wartime propaganda, as they were
romanticized and significant female figures. An example is England s image of
Britannia, a Romanesque warrior, who encouraged men to fight for their country
and protect their women and children (Welch D, Propaganda for Patriotism and
Nationalism, 2014). This information substantiates with Jo Fox in her article,
Women in World War One Propaganda (2014), as she says Women served as the
embodiment of the nation: MГЁre Patrie, Marianne, the spirit of Australia ,
Mother Russia, Liberty , and Britannia all took the female form, appearing as both
demure and combative. German and French propaganda on postcards
romanticized war and women, depicting soldiers thinking of their loved ones while
at war and helped them envisage heroic returns (McCallum, 1996, pg.141). Women
were used as a tool of propaganda in WW1, their involvement due to propaganda
issued was a preponderant factor since women had partial support of the war. More
than 175 000 women were involved in the industrial activity of the war because of
campaigns such as the Register of Women for War Service as claimed by
McAndrew M, Thomas D and Cummins P (1997, pg.224 225), authors of The Great
War; 1914 1918; Problems, Issues, Sources, Skills. Moreover,

WAS GENOCIDE COMMITTED AGAINST THE ARMENIAN PEOPLE IN THE
OTTOMAN EMPIRE DURING WORLD WAR I?
In some countries, it is highly forbidden to mention the Armenian Genocide, which
took place during the First World War with an approximate number of one and a half
million Armenians exterminated. Currently around the world, there are still
arguments whether genocide took place in the Ottoman Empire, targeting the
Armenians. However, Turkey continues to firmly deny the fact that there was
genocide, conceding that only deaths occurred on both Turkish and Armenian sides
during the World War Iand that the Armenians mainly died to the poor condition
during the War. Even though Turkey reject that there were no such thing as genocide,
many sources point to the sheer scale that genocide occurred, such as the relationship
between the Ottoman Turks and the Armenians before the First World War, the death
march, and the fact that only one specific race had been purposely destructed. These
points give an evident conclusion that the Ottoman Turks had a systematic and
organized plan in order to eliminate the Armenians. Thus, genocide was committed
against the Armenian people in the Ottoman Empire during World War I.
Before the First World War broke out, the Ottoman Turks and the Armenians had
serious conflicts with each other. In 1908, a group of young Turks forced the Sultan
out and took control of the government and at first, they talked about bringing new
freedoms to the Armenian people.
The Israelites From Genesis 2-3
The passage from Genesis 1 9 that drew my interest most was the first story of
creation in Genesis 1. This creation story implies that God created all of the universe
in an orderly manner, and he was proud of what he had made, especially human
beings. I imagine the Israelites, the community that received this story from the
Priestly Sources, heard it as a confirmation that the Godthey worshipped was the
correct one. The Israelites were probably accustomed to the creation story from
Genesis 2 3 by the time this story was written. Although the Genesis 2 3 story tells
about how their God created the universe and humans, there is not as much
mentioning of how this God looked upon his creation with favor as he does in
Genesis 1. At the end of the

3. Happiness; the greatest good, or happiness, of the greatest number, the foundation
of utilitarianism. J. S. Mill.
Syn: Usefulness; advantageous; benefit; profit; avail; service. (www.dictionary.com)
One of the major players in ethical theories has long been the concept of
utilitarianism. Utilitarianism states that in general the ethical rightness or wrongness
of an action is directly related to the utility of that action. Utility is more
specifically defined as a measure of the goodness or badness of the consequences of
an action (see quote by Mill above). For the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Though the terms act and rule utility came after the time of Bentham and Mill, it can
still be noted that Bentham was clearly an act utilitarian and the Mill was a rule
utilitarian. This paper will cover two subjects of discussion related to utility,
Bentham, and Mill. The first is a consideration of the way in which Bentham goes
about reconciling the ethical hedonist he promotes with the psychological egoistic
hedonism he endorses. The second is really three smaller issues: the way Bentham
and Mill would direct us to apply the principle of utility, how this is comparable to the
employment of the hedonistic calculus, and the possibility that the differences in
their views may make us come to different moral decisions.
II. There are four distinguishable sources from which pleasure and pain are in use to
flow: considered separately, they may be termed the physical, the political, the moral,
and the religious:...(Bentham, 382)
Bentham promotes ethical hedonism in some of his writings. Ethical hedonism can
be stated as: that action is right which promotes the greatest happiness for the greatest
number. However, Bentham believes that the world seems in reality to mostly
composed of people more closely aligned with psychological egoistic hedonism,
which believes that which is right is that which brings the most happiness to the self.

Main Theme Of Death Of A Salesman
Death of a Salesman was performed by the first time in 1949 and since then it has
been considered one of the most important of American plays. It was awarded in
1949 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play. The play is a
challenge to the American dream which since the Civil War ( and to be more
precise since 1900) has become the dream of business success. Horatio Alger s
characters and from rags to riches narration of his stories rooted the myth of success
in American characterand souls of millions of Americans. Miller wrote his play few
years after the end of the Second World War: in times of rising power of capitalism
and consumerism in America. The famous slogan of those times was saying: freedom

One of the characters in the film Roslyn says: Maybe all there really is, is just the
next thing. The next thing that happens. Maybe you re not supposed to remember
anybody s promises. I believe that there is a link between Death of a Salesman and
The Misfits. Both works at the end are filled with deep sadness, loneliness, and
grief of people who lost their dreams and realized that the faith is those dreams and
hard work are not enough. Maybe you re not supposed to remember anybody s
promises sounds like Maybe you re not supposed to remember dreams of the past .
As children grow up and crash into the hard wall of reality Miller s characters are
grown ups who finally find out the truth. Death of a Salesman is a play of death of
the American dream and faith in from rags to riches narration: that all are equal
and the only thing that matters is hard work. The character of Willy s son, Biff
represents the awareness, the harsh truth that not everyone can (and will succeed)
and he understands his place in society. The key to the play s power and success is
that we (as readers and viewers) can feel what the characters are experiencing
because we have all been there in one form or another. We all have dreams that has

Alekhine s Gun
Rough Around The Edges
There is no way to sugarcoat it: Alekhine s Gun neither looks nor performs
particularly well on the Playstation 4. While the first cutscene consisting of hand
painted images inspired confidence through its genuinely impressive art style, the in
engine ones don t fare as well. The sub par voice acting, curiously poor audio
balancing of sound effects, and awkward animations renders them cringe worthy.
The soundtrack consists of mostly ambient instrumentals contributing to the
suspenseful ambiance when Alekhine operates unnoticed, and it ramps up to caption
the action when he inevitably is identified. While none of the songs stand out as
memorable, they succeed in what they are meant to do compliment the action on
screen. The sound effects are, without mincing words, bad; the guns sound more like
pea shooters than instruments of death, and the poor audio balancing plaguing the
cutscenes is also evident in game, although to a lesser degree. Sadly, the graphics
don t fare any better. The overall bland art direction isn t helped by awkward camera
scrolling, and regular, noticeable frame rate drops slowing the game to a crawl
during the more graphics intensive scenes.

Similarities And Differences Of The Inca And Aztec Empires
Throughout the previous time, pre European civilizations in the Americas, the Aztec
and Inca empires were separate and distinct civilizations. The two civilizations stayed
with no question very progressed and had their own intricated but very efficient
society. Polytheism (who beliefs in multiple gods) dominated both empires. They
adored ideals broadly and fascinatingly, the Sun God maintained the high place in
mutually civilizations. However, both civilizations shared some similarities, there
were remarkable differences among the two empires. These contrasts and similarities
could be observed in many significant ways.
Religion was key component between both civilizations that I could clearly say their
firm believes in their lords. For instance, both empires needed human sacrifices to
sustain living, they both accumulated many temples in which they offered presents
and sacrifices to their lords, and they both had feasts where they expressed their
generosity to their admired lords. The Inca and Aztec Empire were quite different too
when it was about their religion. The Inca for example prayed the sun god Inti in a
representative manner with ceremonies in temples. The Aztecs thought the Sun
would only stay awake if it established the most valued thing they had, which was
human lifeblood. They scarified chiliad of people a year and presented them often. It
was very occasional for the Inca.
The Inca and Aztec empires were very similar. They were based on managing

Global Security And International Global Economy Essay
Introduction
Over the past decade, the world economy has been in trouble having to face multiple
critical situations. In the world we live in today, it seems impossible to only choose
one of most critical challenges we are facing in our international economy. The
amount of conflicting challenges the global economy is dealing with is absurd. A
few major issues are: Environmental Security, Global Corporation, Political war
/conflict, Globalization and so much more. Needless to say global security and
international organization (IO) are needed more than ever to help maintain a stable
global economy. This paper will show why global security and IO is critically
needed yet is not being effectively helping regulate the issues list above. Ultimately,
this paper will suggest new ways to approach this critical issue the economy is facing
today.
Background
To gain an understanding of the upbringing of these challenges, we must first define
what the international global economy is and the events that took places. It was
developed by global interdependence of economic flows that connects to the global
economy world. Some consider it as economic sensitivity , which is controlled by
global management that set the norms, standards and needs for the international
global economy. Looking at the historical events that took place in, can help explain
why we are facing these critical challenges today. The evolution in terms of the
changes in forms of governance, affairs and outcomes

Isak Dinesen was a superb author. Her topics were so popular because she wrote
about life and her real experiences. Isak had a tough life, but as the quotation says,
she faced them with courage. She worked hard and was extremely forgiving of the
people she loved. In her autobiography, Out of Africa, Dinesen portrayed herself, the

because he would not commit fully to her. He liked going on trips and being alone.
Dennis would leave Karen alone for long periods of time. She hated the fact that she
could not control the men around her.
Even in work Dinesen had struggles. She initially intended to start a dairy farm, but
her husband planned to plant coffee. She was extremely upset that he would go
behind her back, especially when it involved her money. However, she went along
with the idea. Her husband did not stay around for long. He went off to war and left
the plantation to her. After many years of planting and harvesting, Dinesen finally got
a good crop. That year though, her plantation unfortunately burned. She was left with
nothing. She had to sell her house, land, and possessions to have money to go back
home.
Last, but not least was the death of Dennis. Karen had been searching all her life
for her one true love, one that would be hers and not cheat on or use her. Dennis
was faithful to her and he was trying to commit to her. In an unfortunate and
unexpected plane crash, Dennis was killed. When finally she had found what she
had been looking for in love, it was taken away from her.
Throughout all this Dinesen managed to keep going. She never let her misfortunes
get the best of her. It took courage and strong will to get her
Research Paper On Rhizobia
Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Situational Analysis
Soil productivity is an important concern for farmers. Green manuring, crop rotation
and mix farming are oftenly used to improve the soil fertility at the same time the
nutrients used in plant growth are conserved and returned to the soil to enhance its
fertility (Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, 1993). Green manuring is the plowing
under or soil incorporation of any green manure crops while they are green or soon
after they flower. Green manures are grown for their leafy materials needed for soil
conservation (Boller et al., 2004). Plants are commonly used for green manuring have
Rhizobia bacteria for nitrogen fixation similarly crop rotation is alternating legumes
and non legumes plants
Most plants need nitrogen from various sources one of which is fixed by a group of
bacteria known as Rhizobia (Herridge et al., 2008). Rhizobia have the ability to fix
nitrogen in plant and help for their growth. The Rhizobia chemically convert the
nitrogen from the atmosphere to make it available in plants. If there is not enough
nitrogen available in the soil, plants look pale in color and their growth development
is reduced (Ngakou, 2009).
Rhizobia are remarkable bacteria because they can live either in the soil or within the

What do you think Sally should do with the information from Rick? And when?
Sally should use the information given to start an investigation, though not publicly,
into the issues pointed out by Rick. She should go about it by asking one of the
other students about the party but should ask in a way that does not arouse suspicion
from the students or Bill. She should do this immediately to get ahead of the
possibility of being beaten to the punch when the principal gets wind of the situation.
Waiting would only make things harder to explain to any person in authority who
gets wind of the actions of Bill.
Should Sally have gone directly to Bill to hear his side of the story or to confront him?
Being Sally s colleague, Bill should be given a chance to give his side of the story.
Sally should, however, wait before immediately confronting Bill. This is because he
would immediately know that it was Rick who told on him and based on his current
situation, it would have been unpredictable on what he would do. Confronting him
after he denies the allegations after Sally has conducted some investigations would
suggest he was guilty of the charges and Sally would have to take it up with the
principal.
What should Sally tell Rick?
Sally should be grateful that Rick has come forward and has given her sometime to
get ahead of this before it became bad. Sally should tell Rick to remain quiet for
some time to let her conduct investigations and be ready to come forward to tell the

Dec.2000, to distribute the food grains to the poorest of the poor families. The food
grains were to be provided to these families of 35 kg at highly subsidized price of
Rs.2 per kg for wheat Rs. 3 per kg for rice under this scheme. Up to the year 2005, it
was expected to 5.21 lakh beneficiaries were come under this scheme.
2) Objectives of the Study: The overall objectives for this are set up as under.
i) To study the nature functions of PDS in India. ii) To study the supply prices of
commodities provided from PDS to ration shops ultimately to cardholders. iii) To
consider the performance of PDS in the era of globalization. iv) To study the

Why Does Solipsism Exist
One of the biggest problems in this world is human s inability to truly believe in
something without proof of it. Solipsism is the theory that defines the idea that
nothing is true outside of the mind. This can be seen all over the world ranging from
religion to astrology. Many people think something exists, yet they cannot prove it
and then have doubts about it. Politics is a game of thoughts and doubts. No one can
prove what the intentions of the politicians are, so people doubt them until they are
proven. Something does not exist to someone until it is proven to our minds and this
is the purest form of solipsism. Solipsism exists everywhere because nothing is true
unless it is evident in someone s mind and to themselves. Nothing is true to us until
one has personally experienced it. The difference between sympathy and empathy is
that one has personally gone through it. There is a difference between thinking
something is true and knowing something is true, and up until the point that one
knows something to be true, one will always have doubts... Show more content on

The ever expanding universe is a prime example of this. There are infinite planets
and stars out there, the human race just cannot see them yet. Every year more
appear because the light from them has had more time to travel. We had no
influence on these new planets, yet they are still there. The biggest problem with
solipsism is that it cannot be truly confirmed nor denied. It also depends on each
individual person and the issue. Denial of the theory is the easier side to defend
because almost the entire world believes in something that may or may not exist; a
higher being. But that in itself proves it is true because people will always have
doubts about it. Moving towards simplicity, everything exists whether or not if we
know it does, it has just yet to be discovered. Disproval of the theory is easy because

Abstract: This paper deals with the staging the evaluation of a three phase Shunt
Active Power Filter for Power Quality improvement. Power Quality problems can be
take up using Shunt Active Power Filters. A simulation model based on mathematical
model of a three phase shunt active power filter has been developed. The results
show an inherent power quality improvement in terms of reduced Total Harmonic
distortion (THD) of source current. It also betrays power factor correction (PFC)
properties to a large extent as the source current and source voltage are in phase.
Keywords shunt active power filter (SAPFs), Total harmonic distortion (THD),
Proportional integral (PI) and Hysteresis current controller (HCC).
INTRODUCTION In the present era of advanced technologies, power electronics

The National Health Service ( Nhs )
1.0Introduction The National Health Service (NHS) was started in 1948 by Aneurin
Bevan, the minister of health at the time. It was based on three core principles that
still underpin the NHS today. It was set up to ensure that everyone could have access
to healthcare, despite their financial circumstances (NHS 2013a). Although the NHS
has achieved what it set out to do, it is now in major financial difficulty, with debt
that could reach ВЈ1bn by the end of 2014 (Campbell 2014). Diseases that are age
related, or that result from lifestyle choices, cost the NHS billions of pounds each
year. Therefore, basing access to treatment on lifestyle and age could be one option
to save money. 2.0NHS treatments and entitlement Residents of the UK have the
right to receive NHS services without having to pay for them. Currently the only
exceptions are prescriptions (in England) and dental treatment, where entitlement is
based on age and income. 3.0Reasons for basing entitlement on age and lifestyle:
3.1Cost Lifestyle choices such as smoking, drinking alcohol, poor diet and lack of
physical exercise have many diseases associated with them. In 2006 07, patients with
these diseases cost the NHS a combined total of ВЈ18.4bn (Scarborough et al. 2011).
If the NHS limited treatment to these groups of people, it would be able to invest
this money into other areas of need. This could lead to improved facilities for people
who become ill through no fault of their own. 3.1.1Smokers
With Direct Reference to at Least One Film, How Did...
With direct reference to at least one film, how did Hollywood address the paranoid,
hysterical political climate of the 50s?
The Cold War began in 1947 between the USSR and the USA. After World War II,
both countries began to distrust each other, as they knew the amount of power each
country had in terms of nuclear weapons. Not only did they distrust each other, but
they lacked a mutual understanding of each other s culture. The USA believed in
capitalism and the USSR believed in communism. This lack of mutual understanding
caused mass paranoia within America as they feared that communists would infiltrate
their society. This hysteria was known as the Red Scare which lead to a range of
actions that had a profound and enduring effect on ... Show more content on

HUAC however disagreed and all ten were found guilty of contempt of congress
and each were sentence to between six and twelve months in prison (Simkin, 1997)
In 1950, Edward Dmytryk came forward and testified at a HUAC hearing and
provided the names of more than 20 industry colleagues he claimed were
communists (Hollywood Ten, 2013). This led to the beginning of a movie industry
blacklist, studio executive did not want their business to be associated with radical
politics in the minds of the movie going public and therefore agreed they would not
employ anyone suspected of being affiliated with the Communist Party (Hollywood

with HUAC by providing names. A list of 324 names became available to HUAC,
Names of those cited as communists by cooperative witnesses were listed

Public confessions were considered personally welcomed as it served a means of
atonement for past actions (Genter, 2012, p. 130). Witnesses who chose to not
respond were those with something to hide (Genter, 2012, p. 130) these confessions
instigated a massive debate over the legality of such confessions, coerced or not.

their job. The defenders of the investigations argued that the confessions helped to

Rite Of Spring Monologue
Uproarious laughter! Outcries of boos and grunts! Scarfs, hats, and shoes being
thrown everywhere! And, worst of all, people getting trampled and beaten on for no
reason. Believe it or not, that is what I had witnessed in the audience last night at the
premiere of a new ballet called
The Rite of Spring by up and coming Russian composer, Igor Stravinsky. Although
this ballet was not well received by its audience, the theater was so packed that it
took me over 15 minutes to find a decent seat to sit in! As soon as the beginning
started with it s very poetic and dreamy bassoon solo, the audience started to laugh
and giggle. That puzzled me because I was enjoying the bassoon solo a lot and
actually found it to be quite mesmerizing. I felt really pleased by ... Show more

I felt very indifferent to the music because it sounded like Stravinsky took random
notes from several keys at the same time and threw them onto paper without caring
about beauty. In addition, I absolutely hated the dancing
(or should I say stomping) that I saw! Although we Parisians requested Russian
ballet with an exotic and oriental character to it, stomping is not necessary! It mocks
the elegance and grace that so many dancers work so hard at perfecting for
performance on stage. When The Rite of
Spring finally reached the Sacrificial Dance section, it messed with my already upset
ears and mind even more than any other section of the ballet. It sounded extremely
nightmarish to me through its outpourings of even more weird types of dissonances
and unpredictable rhythmic unevenness that made me feel sick, especially as the
music gradually grew wilder until the end.
The Rite of Spring was unlike anything that I had heard before which is great, but
the severe novelty of the music made it very difficult to listen to and appreciate. As
soon as it ended,
Benefits of Legalizing Marijuana Essay
Benefits of Legalizing Marijuana Every year, 400,000 Americans die of
complications caused by tobacco products. Smoking kills more Americans each
year than alcohol, crack, heroin, murder, suicide, car accidents, fires, and AIDS all
put together. Every week, eight children under the age of eighteen die from alcohol
related crashes. Alcohol abuse contributes to almost 50% of all traffic accidents,
suicides, and homicides. However, despite the proven dangers of these socially
acceptable drugs, they are still legal. Marijuana, a much less acceptable drug, is not
legal however, despite the fact that research has yet to pin any specific dangers to this
drug. Aside from the health issues of marijuana, there are the many other... Show

Inflated accounts of the effects of marijuana included violent crimes, users going
crazy, and death from marijuana usage. This propaganda led to 27 states passing
marijuana restriction laws. The Marijuana Tax Act, which would make use of
marijuana a criminal offense, was introduced in April of 1937. The two
congressional hearings combined totaled less than one hour. Oddly enough, these
hearings were bases solely on the propaganda of the media. When the American
Medical Association (AMA) came forward to state, among other things, that there
was no proof that marijuana was at all harmful and that prohibiting the drug would
severely compromise physicians abilities to utilize the therapeutic qualities of the
plant, AMA Legislative Council Dr. William C. Woodward was told: If you want to
advise us on legislation, you ought to come here with some constructive proposals ...
rather than trying to throw obstacles in the way of something that the federal
government is trying to do. (U.S. Congress, House of Ways and Means Committee)
After the bill was passed in the Ways and Means Committee, it moved on the House
of Representatives. The House passed the bill after 90 seconds of debate. During this

There are numerous occasions, some of which I would like to detail, where the

literature in America Essay
When I think of America, I think of freedom. We live in a country where we can
do what we choose. We can express our opinions and live our own lives.
Individuals can form their own individual beliefs and they can do what they want
and pursue what they wish. They can play basketball, go to school, get a job, have
a family, buy a house, or go to church. We are free. We have opportunity to be
whatever we want to make ourselves. When you ask, what is an American? I find it
no different to ask, what is freedom? America and freedom are intertwined and this
relationship is evident in American literature.
The notion of freedom and everything relating to freedom unites all of the American
literature we have read. In Twain s Huckleberry Finn, Huck ... Show more content on

In Self Reliance, Emerson explains that our freedom to choose and our ability to
think what we want to think define what America is. I believe it is characteristic of
Americans to strive for what they think is right. In Poe s the House of Usher,
Usher decided to bury his sister alive. I think this story can relate to us today.
Many people would say that America is known for persevering through rough
times. I d say the last few years have been a rough time for America, from 9/11 to
now the war in Iraq. Sometimes situations may seem unbeatable, like being trapped
in a coffin, but if you fight hard enough, like we are against the terrorists and in
Iraq, you can overcome anything. American s can overcome anything. Usher s
sister was buried alive and finally broke from the coffin after a week of struggle.
Also, many of the authors we have studied describe nature in riveting detail. To them
and to me, our beautiful nature represents something more then just what you see
with your eye it represents America s freedom. In Emerson s Nature, Thorpe s The
Big Bear of Arkansas, Twain s Huckleberry Finn, Bryant s Thanatopsis, and Edwards
Shadows of Divine Things, we see an apparent love and lust of nature by the authors.
The great aspects of nature represent the great aspects of America freedom. The
mountains and trees scatter in nature in pure harmony just like the American people
live freely in America. The authors had a fascination
Leadership Theories
Leadership Theories Leadership is more than just a skill set of an individual, it has
also been conceptualized as a social process...[and] social awareness
includes...empathy, service orientation, and developing others. Teaching implicit
leadership theories develops leaders and leadership by raising awareness of this
social context and of one s own implicit leadership theories and how they might or
might not match the social context... (Schyns, et al, 2011, pp. 397 98). Abstract
Leadership is much more than being a supervisor, or an executive, or the boss in
any organization. As a generalization, leadership means having the ability, the
knowledge, and the competence to be good enough at tasks for people to follow. A
successful leader is one that demonstrates leadership by doing a good job and hence
people want to emulate him or her. In the field of leadership there are many theories
relative to what it takes and how it works. This paper reviews eight theories of
leadership representing a variety of situations and organizations. The substance of this
paper should be seen as instructive, in the sense that a critical review of existing
approaches to leadership theory brings out the brightest ideas and calls out those that
are of the past or otherwise indifferent to change in the 21st century business and
organizational milieu. The Literature on Leadership Theories Chris Mortimer writes
in the Electronic Journal of Business Research Methods that the
Economics And The Classical System
1.Economics would be better described by a variation on the term chrematistique
rather than our current discipline s name, which stems from oeconomica because
there is a natural way of making money and the unnatural way of making money. In
the book Teachings From The World Philosophy it states that there are the elements
of true wealth but there is also another art of acquisition, which is commonly and
rightly called the art of making money (Heilbroner 8). I believe that there is a merit
in splitting economicsinto Marginalist and a Classical approach to economics
because the classical system was a circular process between production and
consumption and Marginalism is a one way avenue from production to
consumption. If these did not spilt then I believe no one would agree on anything
because they are two different views which also I believe gave us the best possible
set up because it allowed to perspectives for people to think about.
2.Economics did not exist for many centuries still after Aristotle defined the root
oeconomica because in the early portion of civilized life there were only two
method; traditional and command. Traditional was the passage of tasks/jobs, from
one generation to the other, which still holds in some under develop countries and
command, which was the enforcement of economic survival by dictatorship. Both of
these worked because they were simple and did not need any economic expansion,
which means there was no need for and

  • 1. Compare And Contrast Art Essay Writing a "Compare and Contrast Art Essay" can be a challenging yet intellectually stimulating task. The difficulty lies not only in the complexity of the subject matter but also in the need for a comprehensive understanding of various art forms, styles, and historical contexts. Here are some aspects that contribute to the difficulty of crafting such an essay: 1. Artistic Diversity:Art encompasses a wide range of mediums, styles, and movements. Comparing and contrasting them requires a deep understanding of painting, sculpture, literature, music, and more. Each medium has its unique language and history, making the task complex. 2. Subjectivity of Interpretation:Art is inherently subjective, and people may interpret the same piece differently. Balancing personal interpretation with scholarly analysis adds an extra layer of complexity, as one must navigate between objective comparisons and subjective viewpoints. 3. Historical Context:Art is often a reflection of its time and cultural background. Understanding the historical context of different artworks is crucial for a meaningful comparison. This requires research into the artists' lives, the socio-political climate, and the artistic movements that influenced their work. 4. Critical Analysis:Crafting a compelling essay involves more than just listing similarities and differences. It requires the ability to critically analyze the artistic elements, techniques, and themes within the context of the chosen artworks. This demands a strong grasp of art theory and criticism. 5. Organizational Skills:Presenting a coherent and structured essay is essential. Balancing the comparison of multiple artworks while maintaining a clear and logical flow can be challenging. • 2. Asch Opinions And Social Pressure Summary The article Opinions and Social Pressure by Solomon E Asch is about how people conform to social norms and how social learning is a large part of everyday life. Asch begins by explaining how social norms and pressures allow people to learn how to function within society from learning a language to understanding cultural aspects. The majority of the article describes series of experiments in which subjects are asked to match lines of the same size. The experiments presented throughout the article describe different settings and independent variables. The majority of the experiments conclude that people conform to the majority s opinion to different degrees regardless of whether it is correct or not. However, situations in which they have a
  • 3. The Diet Of The Atkins Diet A physician by the name of Robert Atkins started the Atkins Diet in 1972 after he stumbled upon a study he read in the Journal of the American Medical Association about weight reduction through the elimination of sugar and starch. At the time he was overweight and decided to implement this study into his own life and ended up losing a significant amount of weight. This led him to promoting the diet in his own series of books. The overall premise of the diet is to start with limiting the number of carbohydrates being consumed while eating as much fat and protein you want. Then, gradually increasing the amount of healthy carbohydrates consumed. There are 4 phases to the Atkins diet: Induction, Ongoing Weight Loss, Pre Maintenance, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second phase of the Atkins diet is Ongoing Weight Loss where you slowly increase the amount of carbohydrates in your diet. Essentially you add 5 grams of carbs to your diet every week until you reach a point where you aren t gaining or losing weight (Atkins, 2002). The third phase of the diet is Pre Maintenance in which carbohydrate intake is slightly increased again. However, this time the increase is significant enough that the body is no longer in a state of ketosis. The key here is to find a maximum level of carbohydrates you can consume without gaining weight (Atkins, 2002). Lifetime Maintenance is the final phase of the Atkins diet. In this phase you are expected to carry out the habits acquired from the previous phases. If you find yourself gaining weight again then you can revert back to one of the previous phases. This is a permanent lifestyle you need to adapt in order to carry on with the progress you made so far (Atkins, 2002). The main reason we are limiting carbohydrates in the first place is to control the release of insulin by the pancreas. Carbohydrates are responsible for raising insulin levels, which in turn promotes glucose uptake by the cells. On the other hand, insulin initiates a pathway that inhibits fat breakdown and at the same time promotes synthesis of fatty acid, cholesterol, and glycogen. Therefore, elevated levels of insulin are associated with cardiovascular disease.
  • 4. Worlds Of Wonder In The Northern Colonies Summary In David D. Hall s essay Worlds of Wonder in the Northern Colonies and T.H. Breen s Worlds of Goods in the Northern Colonies; the argument of the settler s views or main objective on the land is put to question. David D. Hall supports the idea that religion was deeply rooted in the early settlers while T.H. Breen supports the idea that the early Americans only concern was becoming an empire of goods. While the two hold factual evidence to this argument, David D. Hall proves to be the most reliable due to its religious reliability of tradition. Worlds of Wonder in the Northern Colonies depicts the deeply rooted religious views within the early settlers by quickly relating it to the Deuteronomic Formula. A Deuteronomic Formula is the idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being kidnapped by the Wampanoag Tribe and losing several family members to the ambush, she wrote about her sufferings during the time. While writing about her miseries she depicted the difference between the Native Americans and the Puritans, almost calling them savages for their lifestyle. While doing so, with every misery she experienced she connected her experience with a passage from the bible. When we were come, Oh the number of pagans (now merciless enemies) that there came about me, that I may say as David, I had fainted, unless I had believed, etc. (Psalm 27:13) . In Rowlandson s account, she uses Winthrop s approach to writing of her experience. Claiming her struggle and connecting it to the bible (claim evidence) she reverted back to her religion whole heartedly to help justify her misfortunes. What Winthrop and Rowlandson are essentially trying to depict is the deeply rooted religion based community that was built to guide the new settlers in their World of Wonder. Where it is easier to claim that everything good and bad can be explained through their religion . Riches were in the minds of the early settlers but religion was at the heart. Depending on what private venture the settlers embarked on, whether it was for profit, religion or even
  • 5. A Summary Of Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Medieval literature is a passion that has enveloped me since I read ChrГ©tien de Troyes Lancelot during my freshman year. In this Arthurian romance, ChrГ©tien represents Lancelot as conflicted a chivalrous knight whom one expects to find only in myth, yet in violation of the code of honor, desirous of his lord s queen. I began thinking of the tales of the Arthurian knights as more than legendary as potentially credible historical accounts. Soon, I wrote a paper on Gawain s rhetoric as a means to elicit specific responses in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Gawain s rhetorical strategies and their manipulations ultimately lead him to a deeper personal recognition and self acceptance. This early exercise alerted me to the pleasures of working with languages of the Middle Ages. My academic interest in Celtic Studies was piqued when I learned of Ogam stones in my Literature in the Natural World class. Ogam is not a spoken language, rather, a code of inscriptions that gave the Irish language an alphabet and supplied the Irish people with a means of writing on stone, wood, and other natural elements with relative ease. Ogam is also found in many manuscripts, where it is both written and read in a manner different from that employed when it is found on stones. As an aspiring academic in Medieval Literature, I recognize that knowledge of the literature of medieval cultures is vitally important. Irish literature, including Ogam inscriptions and manuscripts, is therefore essential to
  • 6. Chain Of Command In Vietnam War Introduction To be successful or victorious in any war, the military have to make sure that men and women in uniforms, are well trained and discipline. Discipline is one of the key factors in any operation. Where there is discipline, there is orderliness, especially in the military. Combat soldiers are trained to kill, and defend themselves. Following ROE will help them target their enemies better. For example, in the Vietnam War, the Army operated under R0E, known as rules of engagement. This ROE were in place to conduct warfare that will comply with international and local laws within the conditions specified by high rank commanders. However, if rules of engagement are not put in place properly, followed or executed, it could be disastrous. An example could be the situation seen in Vietnam, when the U.S rules of engagement shifted towards some soft rules of engagement which caused a lot of American lives. A lot of the U.S soldiers were killed..(The changing combat rules of engagement: what is one American life worth? 2013). In any war, chain of command is very essential. The chain of command is an effective way to maintain order and to assign and make each accountable to a task. The same principle can be applied directly to ... • 7. Imagery And Symbolism Buried Deep Within `` The Love Song... Imagery and Symbolism Buried Deep Within The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock In The Love Song by T.S. Eliot, the imagery and symbolism that are shown have a deeper meaning than one may realize. At the beginning of the poem, Eliot uses an epigraph from Dante s Inferno, which ultimately can be taken as Prufrock referring to how his self doubt and 1over thinking are a living hell for him. Throughout the poem, Prufrock is in a daydream state of mind, until the very end when someone brings him back to reality and he drowns. In The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, T.S. Eliot exposes Prufrock s insecurities and feelings in a way that he could not have done himself by adding meanings and hidden symbolism throughout the entire poem. There is a line that is used quite a bit in this poem which reads In the room, women come and go, talking of Michelangelo. (Eliot 13 14) This is interrupted as Prufrock being at a social gathering, such as a tea party. The use of the word Michelangelo is used to describe how the event is most likely one of scholarly presence where the guests are discussing famous artists. Prufrock does not fit in with this crowd, as read in these lines And indeed there will be time, to wonder, Do I dare? and, Do I dare? time to turn back and descend the stair, with a bald spot in the middle of my hair (They will say How his hair is growing thin! ) (Eliot 37 40) These lines reveal a man who is fearful and insecure about his situation, he wonders if he should

  • 9. Grudge Poem Theme A poem has the potential to capture a large varied audience. It can communicate a multitude of feelings and can highlight struggles in our humanity. Roberts and Zweig when describing poetry state the more experience you have with poetry the more you will develop your own ideas and definitions of just what poetryis (642). Readers of poetry will argue extensively over poetic devices and themes because poetry evokes such strong emotions and ownership. As I read the Jeffrey McDaniel s poem The Grudge there was little doubt in my mind that his purpose was a truthful look at the struggle of resentment. A poet may use several poetic devices to communicate his theme. Each reader recognizes the devices that become important to their understanding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the poem The Grudge sight or visual imagery is crucial to explaining the theme of the poem. As I previously explained the visual imagery that I noticed in the poem helped me to come to an overall theme of the poem. McDaniel s uses visual cues like devotion to describe an extreme idea a person is willing to sacrifice for (2). The speaker is using this visual cue to explain that when he waters his grudge it is not the same thing as someone who follows their theology with complete abandon. Another visual cue that explains the theme is when McDaniel s uses the word bloomed (14). This visual cue is used to describe the actual moment when his hatred has consumed him. At this point there is no denying that the speaker has taken his grudge to the extreme and there is no coming back. From the beginning of the poem when he is defensive and drawing comparisons between him and other characters to the end when the truth of his actions are revealed the visual images help to draw the reader in. This poetic technique of visual imagery was crucial when formulating my conclusion regarding the theme of this

  • 11. The Death Of Usama Bin Laden In May of 2011, many Americans saw the death of Usama bin Laden as a catalyst for renewed U.S. patriotism and a hopeful next step towards ending the Salafi Jihadist movement. Why, then, is the world faced with an unprecedented amount of Salafi Jihadist groups who prove to be increasingly more brutal in their attacks (cite)? The counterterrorist strategy of decapitation, or the removal of a group leader via incarceration or assassination, is a tactic whose utility is dependent on historical context, group structure/composition, and general popular support. While the death of Usama bin Laden renewed American patriotism and allowed the U.S. to exact revenge upon the group behind the deaths of 3,000 in the 9/11 attacks, it proved ineffective... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his 1996 FATWA, Usama bin Laden placed personal responsibility upon each individual Muslim to unify and fight oppressive forces, particularly the United States. With this FATWA comes the distinction of the near and far enemy, an innovative philosophy utilized by bin Laden and Al Qaeda that illustrates the overarching oppressive nature of the United States to Salafi Jihadist sympathizers. Integrating this ideology into the Salafi Jihadist movement is particularly useful for terrorist organizations, as their fighters particularly their suicide bombers are ideologically validated for their actions, and are confident that they will receive a reward in the afterlife should they strike against the enemy. Driven by Usama bin Laden, Al Qaeda grew immensely from 1988 2011, adding on affiliates such as Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and training militant groups in fatas in Pakistan. The Salafi Jihadist movement and the groups responsible for its mobility have gained international attention (and sympathizers), creating a strong base to work towards the creation of the caliphate. What, then, was the impact of Usama bin Laden s assassination by U.S. Navy SEALS in 2011 on the Salafi
  • 12. Description Of A Man s Voice We sat on a cheap wooden bench in the security room in the back of Lord and Taylor, our bags lay on their sides, the contents spilled across the concrete floor. Little white tags hung from the fabric, a few seams were noticeably ripped along the side ribbing of the clothing. Computer screens encompassed the room, the surveillance footage rotated intermittently from Camera 1 to Camera 2 to Dressing Room Camera. The man s voice was barely audible through the wall behind me, as he called my parents and the authorities. He came back into the room with the woman who had grabbed my arm as I exited the department store, announcing that the price for all of the products I had stolen totaled to approximately $1,300 though he hadn t calculated in the damages of the torn clothing where the security buttons were ripped out. My best friend, better known as my fellow thief, called her mom to retrieve us. I used the thick silence of that car ride to prepare something mitigating to say to my mother. When I delicately, respectfully, quietly entered the foyer, my mom sat waiting, drilling me with questions. As I entered the foyer, my mom, who had been undoubtedly stewing in her own thoughts as she awaited my arrival, drilled me with questions. Why would you do this? Because it s fun. Who made you do this? As if I can t make my own decisions and fuck up my life on my own. How long has this been going on? I told her once before but in reality it had been going on for a while. WHY? Why not?

  • 14. Impressionism And Its Influence On Art Impressionism began in 1860 s in Paris when a group of artists refused to paint in the realistic style of their day. These originators were rejected by the art society and denied to show their work in exhibitions or salons. Impressionists did not use the fine details in trying to paint an accurate replica of what they saw instead they painted what their brains saw as the overall impression of a particular scene. Rivers were no longer one whole body of blue and green, instead they became a myriad of colors intertwined to give an overall impression of a river. Impressionismcan be considered the first distinctly modern movement in art because of the way that it turned away from the modern art convention of the time that focused on the fine line details and instead centered on the sensory effect of the scene, the impression objects made on the eye in a fleeting instant. This style of painting was best captured in the outdoors, thus the artists moved from the studio to the streets and countryside, painting en plein air (www.theartstory.org/movement impressionism.htm). There are no lines in nature, only areas of color, one against another. Г‰douard Manet Another aspect that made Impressionism revolutionary is that it broke with the traditional salon style of painting by attempting to capture a moment in time as experienced by the viewer. The way the light hit the water, the shadows at that time of day, would never be repeated. The salon style was more pictorial of

When FrankLloyd Wright was just sixty eight years old, he was commissioned to design a house for Edgar Kaufmann. Wright and Kaufmann went to the property to survey the location for the house. Kaufmann liked to spend time at the water falls on his land so that is where Wright decided to build it. Wright figured if Nature could place the boulders over a waterfall, than he could build a house over one. It took Wright only three hours to draw the plans for the house. The house consists basically of concrete slabs balanced on the boulders above the stream, and the walls are slabs of the natural rock surrounding the house. The resolution of a story is when most or even all the questions that have been asked throughout the story have been answered, or when the protagonist gained new information from the final event of a story (Dickerson, n.d.). A good example of a story with a fantastic resolution is The Story of an hour. This story follows a grieving woman with heart problems that just heard the news of her husband s death. They conducted the research by creating two indicator variables to characterize political dynasties. The first one is called Postrelatives which is equal to a legislator who has a relative entering congress after he did. And the second one is called Prerelative which is equal to a legislator who had a relative entering congress before he did. The results showed that the prerelative legislator had the chance to occupy a position in the congress compared to the postrelative legislator. This indicates that the more relatives that entered in the congress before the candidate running for a position, the more likely he will succeed compared to the other legislator who has no relatives inside the congress. There were several elements, both stylistic and technical, incorporated within the propaganda, which created conceptions of nationalism and anti national sentiment and involved different demographics such as North Americans and women. All these factors contributed to the enormity of war and increased the extent of people who participated in the war, whether it was in the trenches at front lines or in their towns at the home front. An example is England s image of Britannia, a Romanesque warrior, who encouraged men to fight for their country and protect their women and children (Welch D, Propaganda for Patriotism and Nationalism, 2014). This information substantiates with Jo Fox in her article, Women in World War One Propaganda (2014), as she says Women served as the embodiment of the nation: MГЁre Patrie, Marianne, the spirit of Australia , Mother Russia, Liberty , and Britannia all took the female form, appearing as both demure and combative. In some countries, it is highly forbidden to mention the Armenian Genocide, which took place during the First World War with an approximate number of one and a half million Armenians exterminated. Currently around the world, there are still arguments whether genocide took place in the Ottoman Empire, targeting the Armenians. However, Turkey continues to firmly deny the fact that there was genocide, conceding that only deaths occurred on both Turkish and Armenian sides during the World War Iand that the Armenians mainly died to the poor condition during the War. Even though Turkey reject that there were no such thing as genocide, many sources point to the sheer scale that genocide occurred, such as the relationship between the Ottoman Turks and the Armenians before the First World War, the death march, and the fact that only one specific race had been purposely destructed. These points give an evident conclusion that the Ottoman Turks had a systematic and organized plan in order to eliminate the Armenians. Thus, genocide was committed against the Armenian people in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. Before the First World War broke out, the Ottoman Turks and the Armenians had serious conflicts with each other. In 1908, a group of young Turks forced the Sultan out and took control of the government and at first, they talked about bringing new freedoms to the Armenian people.

The second is really three smaller issues: the way Bentham and Mill would direct us to apply the principle of utility, how this is comparable to the employment of the hedonistic calculus, and the possibility that the differences in their views may make us come to different moral decisions. It is just like a cart without a collar bar or a carriage without a yoke bar. How can he make it move? (passage 2.22, The Analects). No matter how knowledgeable a person is and no matter how much great honor he has earned, nothing could save his prestige and reputation if he behaves dishonestly that all his credit were lost to people. This person is no longer trustful. Therefore, if any of these deceptive behaviors that violate the integrity ever get exposed, one s career will be terminated with zero tolerance because his fault will be strictly analyzed and people while find out that he is not a discipline abiding person with adequate awareness of integrity and honesty, which means that this person would become a potential hazard in the
  • 37. Cast Away In the movie Cast Away, Chuck Noland says that to turn ones back on time is to commit a sin. In this movie, Chuck s life revolves around time, and his ability to make more money is directly affected by time. This fact, however, is exactly what is related as a bad thing. Throughout the movie, capitalistic ventures, which require an extreme investment of time, are characterized as evil. The message sent in Cast Away is that we live in a corrupt and morally bankrupt society which is only concerned with the bottom line, but if we all get back to the basics and search our souls for what really matters in life, we may have a chance of turning out okay. Since Chuck Noland represents evil in the form of a taskmaster of time, his punishment is to be sent away to solitude where time is not a factor. Before he arrives at his lonely island, Chuck is not good at dealing with people or emotions. He only gives his friend a phone number when his friend s wife is dying of cancer. He offers no emotional support, and even tries to stay out of the conversation when the flight attendant is talking to his friend about it. Some other examples of this are the Christmas presents he buys Kelly (Cast Away). Even though they are gag gifts, it is still insensitive, and he did not think about how it would make her feel. He suffers a Satan esque fall to this island where suddenly all the time and money in the world no longer matter. It is only after being stripped of these elements that Chuck is able to sort out what really matters in life. The fact that he does not open the package with the wings on it symbolizes that he is beginning to become more attuned to the elements of life that truly matter (Cast Away). He could have easily opened it, but he realized that respecting someone s privacy, even on that remote island, was vitally important. He also realized that having a companion was important in survival, and this is why he created Wilson (Cast Away). Wilson taught him that he was taking his friendships and relationships in his earlier life for

  • 42. Why Does Solipsism Exist One of the biggest problems in this world is human s inability to truly believe in something without proof of it. Solipsism is the theory that defines the idea that nothing is true outside of the mind. This can be seen all over the world ranging from religion to astrology. Many people think something exists, yet they cannot prove it and then have doubts about it. Politics is a game of thoughts and doubts. No one can prove what the intentions of the politicians are, so people doubt them until they are proven. Something does not exist to someone until it is proven to our minds and this is the purest form of solipsism. Solipsism exists everywhere because nothing is true unless it is evident in someone s mind and to themselves. Nothing is true to us until one has personally experienced it. The difference between sympathy and empathy is that one has personally gone through it. There is a difference between thinking something is true and knowing something is true, and up until the point that one knows something to be true, one will always have doubts... Every year more appear because the light from them has had more time to travel. We had no influence on these new planets, yet they are still there. The biggest problem with solipsism is that it cannot be truly confirmed nor denied. It also depends on each individual person and the issue. Denial of the theory is the easier side to defend because almost the entire world believes in something that may or may not exist; a higher being. But that in itself proves it is true because people will always have doubts about it. Moving towards simplicity, everything exists whether or not if we know it does, it has just yet to be discovered. Disproval of the theory is easy because of this overwhelming

It was based on three core principles that still underpin the NHS today. It was set up to ensure that everyone could have access to healthcare, despite their financial circumstances (NHS 2013a). Although the NHS has achieved what it set out to do, it is now in major financial difficulty, with debt that could reach ВЈ1bn by the end of 2014 (Campbell 2014). Diseases that are age related, or that result from lifestyle choices, cost the NHS billions of pounds each year. Therefore, basing access to treatment on lifestyle and age could be one option to save money. 2.0NHS treatments and entitlement Residents of the UK have the right to receive NHS services without having to pay for them. Currently the only exceptions are prescriptions (in England) and dental treatment, where entitlement is based on age and income. 3.0Reasons for basing entitlement on age and lifestyle: 3.1Cost Lifestyle choices such as smoking, drinking alcohol, poor diet and lack of physical exercise have many diseases associated with them. In 2006 07, patients with these diseases cost the NHS a combined total of ВЈ18.4bn (Scarborough et al. 2011). If the NHS limited treatment to these groups of people, it would be able to invest this money into other areas of need. This could lead to improved facilities for people who become ill through no fault of their own. 3.1.1Smokers

I believe it is characteristic of Americans to strive for what they think is right. In Poe s the House of Usher, Usher decided to bury his sister alive. I think this story can relate to us today. Many people would say that America is known for persevering through rough times. I d say the last few years have been a rough time for America, from 9/11 to now the war in Iraq. Sometimes situations may seem unbeatable, like being trapped in a coffin, but if you fight hard enough, like we are against the terrorists and in Iraq, you can overcome anything. In the book Teachings From The World Philosophy it states that there are the elements of true wealth but there is also another art of acquisition, which is commonly and rightly called the art of making money (Heilbroner 8). I believe that there is a merit in splitting economicsinto Marginalist and a Classical approach to economics because the classical system was a circular process between production and consumption and Marginalism is a one way avenue from production to consumption. If these did not spilt then I believe no one would agree on anything because they are two different views which also I believe gave us the best possible set up because it allowed to perspectives for people to think about. 2.Economics did not exist for many centuries still after Aristotle defined the root oeconomica because in the early portion of civilized life there were only two method; traditional and command. Traditional was the passage of tasks/jobs, from one generation to the other, which still holds in some under develop countries and command, which was the enforcement of economic survival by dictatorship. Both of these worked because they were simple and did not need any economic expansion, which means there was no need for and
