2. Raiders of the Lost Ark (Steven Spielberg, USA 1981) Essay
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Steven Spielberg, USA 1981) Harrison Ford stars in the
film Raiders of the Lost Ark as a character called Indiana Jones. The opening
sequence has left Indiana s character mysterious to the audience but throughout this
sequence we understand his character as bold, cool, calm and a collected leader, but
as the sequence develops and the scene changes we see another side to Indiana, an
intellectual man who dresses smartly and doesn t seem cool anymore. From the
opening sequence we know that this film is an action/adventure because it is packed
with excitement, violence and close encounters with death. The mise en scene or
what the audience see and hear plays an important... Show more content on

The positioning of the characters is important because they are in a line one
behind another this shows the leader of the group is at the front and therefore the
most important. As they get deeper into the jungle it is noticeable the screen
changes from wide screen to take up the entire screen this is done to make the
audience feel that they are getting deeper into the jungle. Shafts of sunlight through
trees are used to make their adventure mysterious and because little light is used it
makes it dark and shadowy to make the characters more heroic. As they are
walking through the jungle there are noticeable difference between the three
characters, the leader is wearing a leather jacket, a hat and is wearing a whip
whereas the two people following have rather worn down shabby clothes and are
carrying lots of equipment. This makes Indiana look as if he knows what he is
doing whereas the porters seem as if they didn t want to come and aren t prepared.
This is also reflected in their body language, Indiana seems tough and courageous
whereas the porters seem nervous and anxious. The fact that Indiana isn t carrying
anything whereas the porters are carrying lots of tools suggest two things that
Indiana is the leader and perhaps he has hired them which suggests he is well off.

3. Addiction With Substance Addiction
Addiction is a term used to describe the continued or compulsive use of a substance
or engaging in an activity that provides a pleasurable experience, despite the
interference or negative effects it poses on an individual and their responsibilities
(PsychologyToday, 2017). Addiction involves the brains reward, motivation and
memory circuit (American Society of AddictionMedicine, 2017). Dysfunction within
these circuits leads to the pathological response of pursing reward from a substance
or other behaviours (American Society of Addiction Medicine, 2017). Two of the
main commonly known addictions are to alcohol and psychoactive substances;
however, addiction also encompasses a variety of behaviours such as eating, sex,
shopping and gambling (PsychologyToday, 2017). In this paper I will explore the
complex health challenge substance addiction, how the concepts resilience hardiness
and vulnerability relate to substance addiction, at risk individuals and explore
resources available for individuals who suffer with this chronic disease.
In the past, substance abuse and substance dependence were two different categories
in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a manual used to aid
health care providers in diagnosing and understanding mental illness (Casey, 2017).
Recently, the manual has combined the two categories into one substance use
disorder . Substance use disorder encompasses hazardous use of a substance causing
social or legal problems and
4. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
Enhancing safety of pedestrians and cyclists is a significant concern of many
transportation agencies and the public. Providing safe routes for nonmotorized
traffic within and around work zones needs to be a priority since the casualty figures
are significant. U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has made many rules
relate to pedestrians, including disability and bicyclist safety in work zones. A
Manual of Uniform TrafficControl Devices (MUTCD) is the national standard that
included the FHWA policy and guideline to accommodate the roadusers within and
around work zones. The implementation of these rules is done by state DOTs by
developing policies and procedures for evaluating and managing the safety for all
road users including
5. Birth Defects Discrimination
The stigma and discrimination of living with severe birth defects
Birth defects are health problems that occurs when a baby is developing in uterus
(in the womb) of an individual (Healthline Editorial Team, 2017). This defect may
be caused by genetic disorders, problems with chromosomes, or environmental
factors; disorders such as mandibulo facial dysostosis, cleft palate and spina bifida.
The lives of people with severe birth defects conditions are often contributed by
stigma as well as discrimination. Stigma is a major cause of discrimination which
leads to rejections, being scorned and gossip at; isolated socially, bullied; and even
labelled. The book, Palacio, R.J Wonder, 2012 demonstrated the story of a boy
named August or Auggie Pullman, a ten year old boy living in Manhattan who was
born with severe birth defects (mandibulo facial dysostosis and a cleft palate)
which left him severely disfigured. It was difficult for him to make friends. He lives
with his parents, his older sister Via; and his dog Daisy. August was homeschooled
up until the fifth grade but his parents decided it was time for him attend a real
school. They enrolled him in Beecher Prep, a neighborhood private school. There
August (Auggie) was faced with many obstacles during the school year because of his
appearance. He dealt with many stigma and discrimination from both students and
parents.

Competitive Market Although Nano Brewery should not hold allusions of taking
over the macro brewer scene anytime soon, they are doing well in comparison to
other nano brewers nationwide. Currently, Nano Brewery is services five accounts
where they provide beer on tap, which by industry standards is positive. John Holl,
the editor and chief of All about BeerMagazine remarks about nano breweries, heck,
if they can get on tap in at least one place in town, that s success. The reports of not

Although craft brewers use a number of unique additives to their batches to get the
right flavor, such as fruits, nuts and honey, the major necessity is hops. Although
hops can be sourced globally, the market demand is steeply rising will inevitably
drive up the cost. Larger macro brewers will have both the financial leverage and
the economies of scale to get the best of what is around, leaving microbrewers and
nano brewers to source elsewhere. There is also the consideration of price strategy
in the market. Craft beer is known for its higher cost of production and higher
purchase price to consumers, but as the trends in micro and nano breweries
expands the question remains as to if they will take on a similar pricing model to
that of the macro brewers in the United States. Currently, the pricing trends
amongst macro brewers are almost solely based on a single manufacturer, as noted
by Robert Uihlein, Chairman of the Schlitz Brewery, a price increase is needed, but
it will take Anheuser Busch to do it, (Rojas, p.3). This trend has only slightly
manifested itself on the smaller market and realistically has just adhered to a
standard model of pricing thus far, with little fluctuation based on demand. As an
example, there is a number of craft breweries who have become infamous for
releasing their most coveted brews on a limited basis, but price

9. Symbols Of The French Revolution
By the end of 1870, monarchies were restricted by the constitution. Nationalism of
this period was restricted to the educated class; masses took part in the revolution
during this period but not in large numbers. After 1870, the mass movements were
launched on war scale for the defeat of the monarchy. They were successful in their
movements but the allies became rivals. Now the nationstate became more important.
Emotional attachment became stronger than the legal and rational element during the
first part of the nineteenth century. A transformation was needed to change
nationalism from an elitist to mass movement, a change from the French revolution
which was based on legalistic concepts to emotional links. It was done by making it...

Missa Papae Marcelli Gloria is a piece by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina from the

important place where Baroque and Renaissance were playing as a serve in the

14. The Brothers Karamazov By Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding
something to live for. Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov.
Life goals are something to cling on and can be defined as end goals of our life.
Without it we are living a life without any clear direction or focus. As per what Earl
Nightingale said, People with goals succeed because they know where they are
going... It s as simple as that.
The process of setting goals is so crucial since it helps to motivate yourself to turn
your vision into reality. The first step in setting life goal is observe yourself. One
must choose a goal which attract them and can make them hang on it for longer term
without hesitating about the amount of time need to be spent.

15. Benefits Of Artificial Intelligence
Beneficial AI Many wonder if Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be beneficial to
humanity. AI has been around for only a few years. Voice Assistants such as Bixby
and Siri help people maneuver through screen selection, apps and much more on
their cell phones easier and faster. AI is slowly getting better, with things such as
self driving cars and robotic relations. There are two types of AI, weak AI and
strong AI. Weak AI are things we have today such as those listed above (Siri and
Bixby), and the strong AI are what researchers are currently working towards.
There are many ways that AI could be useful in our lives, it can help us to move
forward in technology that we have yet to make many advances in, it can also
make everyday complications and annoyances much easier for humans. With the
help of AI, technology will be better and faster than ever because AI will not make
repeated mistakes like people would. First, AI are created to learn as they go. AI
are able to make fast advances by being given set goals. In the article, Benefits and
Risks of AI, the author wrote, Machines can obviously have goals in the narrow
sense of exhibiting goal oriented behavior: the behavior of a heat seeking missile
is most economically explained as a goal to hit a target (Tegmark). Researchers are
able to set a goal for the AI to reach so it will not get off task, which will make the
research process faster without common distractions. This allows the AI to work
through problems

The fight for control of Afghanistan s opium economy has created a powerful entity
competing for influence within an already fragile state. Worldwide drug use has led
to a steady demand for Afghanistan s opium and heroin production. The benefits for
those involved including workers and farmers who produce the opium to the
warlords, commanders, and international traffickers who control its movement, is
great. Years after the fall of the Talibangovernment, some argue that the rebellion is

Opium Greed and Our Troops War is seen as a means for control and resources. We
once thought of the invasion of Afghanistan as The War on Terror, and it became
seen as a way to gain control of their oil production, but little is known about the $1
trillion wealth this country really holds and the interest U.S corporations have taken
on the new cash crop known as poppy. We know that the United States government
has been found to protect certain drug operations around the globe, for example in
2012, a Mexican government official from Juarez stated that the CIA and other
international security forces don t fight drug traffickers but instead manage the drug
trade. Former Representative Ron Paul has even commented about the CIA s
corruption when speaking to a group of students about Iran Contra: stating Drug
trafficking is a gold mine for people who want to raise money in the underground
government in order to finance projects that they can t get legitimately... It is very
clear that the CIA has been very much involved with drug dealings. There is no
hardcore evidence whether or not the CIA or other U.S security systems are involved
in the Afghanistan opium production or distribution

In this case, the employees compared themselves with a self inside situation, which
is comparing their current situation with it was before. They found their ration
decreased because of income (effort paid) increase and outcome (salary received)
decrease. Since they regarded themselves as under rewarded, they took actions to
reduce tension and want to bring the situation back to normal. For example, symbolic
protest was emerged. They started to work according to the rules and refused an
overtime work. Thus, this is one kind of illegitimate political behavior under power in
action.
Another problem faced by Cathay is the conflict between its management and
employees. As mentioned above, the ground crews perceived that the company has
negatively affected their concerned working conditions. This conflict may be resulted
from poor communication between both parties, lack of openness of the company,
and failure to respond to employees needs. It is obvious that Cathay failed to respond

One of the most common places for the spread of infectious diseases are schools
and daycare centers. Children can easily contract diseases from infected objects and
from other children. Influenza is a viral respiratory illness affecting thousands of
children and adults each year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (2013), an average of 20,000 children under the age of 5 suffer from flu
related complications and end up hospitalized every year. In addition to respiratory
illnesses, children also contract gastrointestinal and skin illnesses in schools and

Although it is inevitable to keep their children from all infectious diseases, parents
can greatly reduce the chances of contracting them. Young children, especially
infants and toddlers, have an increased chance of infections because they use their
hands to explore objects and other children and then frequently wipe their noses and
mouths where viruses can enter. Healthychildren.org (2014) states that most
children that attend child care facilities and schools have as many as 8 to 12 colds
a year along with a few episodes of nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. Symptoms of the
flu, like vomiting and diarrhea, can cause severe fluid volume deficit in young
children and can lead to life threatening complications. There are several available
educational guides and teaching tools published for parents to use as resources in the
prevention and management of diseases contracted in child care facilities especially
influenza. One of the best prevention is to receive the most current flu vaccine and to
update all immunizations. Schools, hospitals, medical volunteer programs and the
department of health in each state offer a number of resources where parents can
take their children to receive the flu vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) strongly recommends that children 6 months and older should get
the flu vaccine. It is important to keep aware of when the flu

employees working remotely by realizing cost savings of office space and utilities,
employee retention and broadening their candidate pool. However, working remotely

Lewis said that employers should use a remote work option when the available

Gas exchange
Gas Exchange
Leslie A. Rouse

Gas Exchange
Gas exchange is defined as the process by which oxygen is transported to cells and
carbon dioxide is transported from cells (Giddens, 2013, p.161). Gas exchange in the
human body occurs in the lungs and as the primary function of the respiratory
system, it exchanges two gases, oxygen and carbon dioxide. The process of gas
exchange happens as we breathe through ventilation, transport and perfusion. As you
inhale oxygen, the oxygen travels deep into the lungs until it reaches the alveoli.
Here in the alveoli oxygen and carbon dioxide diffuse across the alveolar capillary
membrane. Oxygen is able to enter into the blood while carbon dioxide is leaving
the blood as waste to be exhaled from the lungs and out of the body. This
oxygenated blood is then transported throughout the body. All cells depend on a
consistent supply of oxygen and removal of waste in order to survive. A reduction
or lack of oxygen and/or buildup of waste leads to demise. For this reason, gas
exchange is critical. Gas exchange is compromised when there is impairment of
ventilation, altered transport of oxygen, or inadequate perfusion. Impaired ventilation
may occur in conditions such as inadequate muscle or nerve function to move air into
the lungs, such as cervical spinal cord injury; narrowed airways from
bronchoconstriction like in asthma, or from obstruction like in chronic bronchitis;
poor gas diffusion in

The brain can be described similar to a vault, where the most important aspect of
life is held, knowledge. Human knowledge has grown since the beginning of time,

be discovered. Neurologists are aware that the brain consists of five segments; these
divisions consist of the Frontal Lobe, Parietal Lobe, Occipital Lobe, Cerebellum, and
the Temporal Lobe. Each of these parts work in harmony and has their own specific
function, which as a whole controls our person. The Frontal Lobe is crucial for artistic

motor skills, and coordination. The Frontal Lobe is constantly at work to

The Conditional Acquittal:
On a Supposed Contradiction in Plato s Apology and Crito

When reading the Apology and the Crito of Plato, one inevitably comes upon a
seeming fundamental contradiction between the two dialogues. The Apology
presents readers with a defiant Socrates who declares in his trial that, if acquitted on
the condition that he never philosophize again, he would continue to practice
philosophy in spite of the jury s order to the contrary:

Rather, it clears the debate considerably. If the Apology passage is shown to have
been made in defiance of an illegal court procedure, then the Apology passage
cannot be taken as evidence of Socratic support of civil disobedience. Such evidence,
coupled with the obedience to law proscribed in the Crito, allows the supposed
contradiction between the two dialogues to be dismissed.
In order to analyze the Apology and the Crito in relation to each other, one must first
make an assumption that has not been proven to any significant extent. One must
assume that the Socrates character within the two dialogues is both consistent and
trustworthy in espousing philosophical arguments. By accepting this assumption, one
can evaluate the inconsistencies within the two Socratic dialogues as if they were a
complete, consistent whole. Following such an assumption, one can examine the
philosophy in the Apology in relation to that within the Crito with logical bearing.
In order to understand the seeming contradiction between the two works, one must
understand the passages on which it is based. The defiance passage of the Apology,
when interpreted literally, does indeed seem to contradict the obedience to the state
espoused in the

Article Evaluation Stem cell research is a very interesting and controversial topic
that many authors and scientists take time to write about. Christopher Robertson is

Robertson provides readers with the information they are looking for and the article
has merit as an example of technical writing. This article discusses three main topics:
the legal background, how scientific progress can resolve ethical issues, and
assessing alternative methods of stem cellresearch. By analyzing the three main
sections it is possible to see the merit of this article.
The first section of the article ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author Christopher Robertson proposes that the three alternatives come down to
two categories of moral questions. The first is due to under determination . All of the
conflicts come down to things such as the difference between dead and nonviable
embryos or the distinction of killing versus letting die. Robertson states, ...the
discussion must begin from clarification about the underlying factors that establish
our alleged duties to protect living human embryos, and those factors will then
define the contours of permissible scientific practice (Robertson). This quotation is
saying that before any alternatives are used it would be prudent to have established
definitions on these issues. The second category questions whether waiting to find a
moral alternative, that may not even work, is worthwhile instead of working directly
to find cures for diseases. Like the first question scientists and policy makers need to
have a conversation about what is more beneficial for the public(Robertson). To sum
up, this section makes readers think and poses difficult questions which add to the
merit of this excellent article.
In conclusion, this article was divided into three sections. It discussed the legal
background, how scientific progress can solve our ethical problems, and an analysis
of alternative solutions to the controversy of stem cell research. Each of these
sections explained in depth the dilemma that holds scientist back from stem cell
research, and provides thought provoking questions. Overall, the article Recent

The Columbian Exchange The Columbian Exchange was a time of great change for

During the Columbian Exchange, people were exchanged between continents, mostly

be the least bit nervous since his life is at stake. Further, as Othello address the
Duke in the written play, the reader sees the humbling words: (1) Most potent,
grave, and reverend signiors, My very noble and approved good masters. These
appear to be the words of one in search of mercy from his judges. Furthermore,
when he recounts his history with Desdemona, there is no sign of him walking over
to Brabantio and looking down on him as he speaks of the history. Rather, the reader
is inclined to think that Othello is addressing the Duke directly because he starts

tone of Fishburn s voice, the reader is inclined to see Othello in a state of meekness
rather than clout while he recounts his history with Desdemona to the Duke.
While Fishburn portrays Othello as having much clout in the filmed version, he

The fantasy/sci fi film was directed by George Miller and received praise from
many critics, and has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Picture and Best

and Max (Tom Hardy), who join forces to help five women escape from the tyrant,
Immortan Joe. Along the way, Furiosa and Max not only have to keep the girls
alive, but also each other and outrace the army that follows them in order to make
it to the Green Place, a haven of sorts where Furiosa was born. However, when the
group finally reaches the Green Place, there is nothing but ruin to be found and so
begins the epic climactic battle between the escapees and Immortan Joe s army.
There are so many unique aspects to the plot alone that detach this film from most
of the action film genre, but what adds to the significance of Fury Road is the
overwhelming presence of disabilities, and how these disabilities are treated within
the context of the film. The world itself projects a new culture where everyone is

The relationship between a person and their family is usually considered important.
Studies have recently show that they are more important than would be noticed at
first glance. Having strong family ties has been shown to provide resistance to peer
pressure and that having factors in a person s life such as maternal warmth and
positive psychological connections with family members causes a greater resistance
to peer pressure (Chan Chan, 2013). Other factors in family life influence the levels
of resistance to peer pressures. It was noticed that in immigrants, those who had a
low generational status, meaning their families recently immigrated and had a good
relationship with their parents were less likely to be susceptible to peer pressure
(BГЎmaca Umana Taylor, 1997). When children have a high regard for their parents
they are also shown to have a higher self esteem and a higher level of resistance to
peer pressure (Sim, 2000). The relationship with families is very important, if
strengthening this relationship can boost self esteem and as a result boost resistance
to peer pressure there are benefits in strengthening this relationship other than

Several things can influence how a person performs: gender, race, and even class.
In a sense, class could be considered the easiest thing to perform, and can also
change the quickest. Nothing needs to be drastically, physically changed in order
to perform a different class than the one a person is a part of. However, performing
up or down in class takes a lot of effort. When someone performs up in class, they
were persecuted and looked down upon compared to someone who performs down.

this was because the people she surrounded herself with were also in similar class
situations where the fight to survive was more difficult, not allowing much space in

39. Media, Poor, And Media
It s an interesting world we live in when comedians such as Jon Stewart are more
trusted to give truthful, adequate information rather than news outlets and the media.
What seems like a curious predicament is really nothing more than the creation of a
monetized media, the value of a persons interest in a headline. In Media, poor ethics
and sensationalism caused by greed have led to unfortunate effects such as
misinformation, idolization of celebrities, and reduced credibility of news outlets as a
whole. First and foremost, the largest and most unfortunate result of this
sensationalism is misinformation to the general public. The need for viewership
causes media to exaggerate their stories, trying to create the biggest, boldest headline
for it, and in the process often citing inflated or even outright incorrect information.
The rampant question; who can make the biggest, boldest headline in the shortest
amount of time? The drive to captivate and take the attention of the public in order to
turn a profit is what drives this cash cow. Ultimately, in their eyes, you are nothing
more than a view to them. A number on a computer screen, that will transform into
money. This leads to misinformation of often important stories, which can create
unfortunate side effects such as racial tension and misdirected anger. As the internet
grows in popularity, the need for news has only increased, now booming in the way
of internet articles who are just as guilty of sensationalism. Click

Although ISIS propaganda videos portray life in Raqqa as a believer s paradise, Mitat

She says she was always scared, always hearing bombs, guns, shooting. In recent

43. Cincinnati Police Activity
An article published in the International Journal of Police Science and Management
authors Bain, Robinson, and Conser (2014) describe the police as reactive, meaning
they respond to a call for help. This limits police interaction with the community to
either being the victim, offender or witness of a crime. This relationship is then
connected to a negative memory no matter which role the individual plays. The
ability of the policeto function as an effective service is often predicated on the
positive image they maintain with the general public (Bain, Robinson, and Conser,
2014). This type of relationship along with the one experienced in Cincinnati, Ohio
in the late 1990 s to mid 2000 s where there were an alarming number of fatalities

Cincinnati Police Department to improve positive community involvement. New
officers are required to provide community service by serving in soup kitchens,
volunteering at schools, nursing homes and in the homeless communities. There are
other programs that connect officers to youth to share meals,

Commissioned officer has on others. For many reasons the Non Commissioned

Outstandingly, American Non commissioned officers have performed
commendably in their discharge of their duties worldwide. Every soldier is entitled

experienced and qualified experts. NCO is also mandated to identify leaders from
soldiers who can effectively perform in small units. Hence it is very essential for the
non commissioned officer to be empowered with knowledge and technique on how to
carry out these duties effectively asserts that excellent leaders understand their
soldiers strength and weaknesses Basically, it is the role of non commissioned officer
to employ knowledge and skills they have acquired through the many years of service
in planning and decision making stages in the Army. In line with this, the US
government is taking initiatives to empower the non commissioned

Malvolio and the Way he is Treated in William Shakespeare s The Twelfth Night
Malvolio is an extremely complicated and difficult character to study because of his
mixed, complex personality. At times in the play he seems very reliable and loyal
but sometimes he seems foolish and weak, and in many scenes in the play the
audience are encouraged to laugh at him, his actions or his words. He is not
portrayed as a lovable character, which makes the play funnier. Also, the way that
Malvolio seems humourless actually makes him humorous. Just Malvolio s name can
give you some idea of his personality, it means in Latin evil wishing!

So, from being rude and offensive earlier on in the scene to Feste, he is now obedient
and loyal. Malvolio could, at this point, be called two faced. His personality changes
depending on whom he is interacting with.
Act II Scene 2 consists of a conversation between Malvolio and Viola/Cesario.
Malvolio seems very proud and pleased to be telling Viola/Cesario that Olivia does
not want him to bring messages from Orsino any more. Of course he does not realise
that the implications of this message are actually the complete opposite! He says:
And one thing more, that you never be so hardy to
come again in his affairs, unless it be to report your
lord s taking of this. (Lines 8 10)
Malvolio is then rude and selfish to Viola/Cesario because he obviously feels that he
is more important than him. Instead of handing Viola/Cesario the ring, he throws it
onto the floor.
In the next scene, Act II Scene 3 Sir Toby and Sir Andrew are drinking, they
persuade Feste to sing for them but Maria is wary and warns them of the trouble
they could be in. Malvolio is sent down by Olivia to stop their unruly behaviour. Of
course, Malvolio takes this opportunity to scold all of them and be generally impolite
to them:
Have you no wit, manners, nor honesty, but to gabble
like tinkers at this time of night? (Lines 83 84)

Minorities...
The Evolution of Comedic Self Representation of Minorities
Over the past 70 years, there has been great change in comedy especially for
African Americans and other Non American races. During the early days of
comedy, many of these people were considered to be minorities during that era. This
influenced many comedic stints of that time which over the years have evolved to
catch up with the modern day society. Some of these include the humor, the topics
discussed and also epithets. Over the years many comedians have emerged from this
group of minorities and have played a major factor in the evolution of comedy itself
and how the different minorities have evolved from being quiet to playing a great
part in show casing their lifestyle. Compared to the past, there has been a great
change in comedy from the old times of Dick Gregory to the modern times of Aziz
Ansari.
Through the years, many comedians have used their talent to address many issues
that faced the society and express their ideologies in a rather subtle manner. This
was difficult as many tried to avoid the situation of coming out as racists. According
to the Jonathan Paul Rossing in the article Dick Gregory and Activist Style, Dick
Gregory emerged in the early 1950s where he used the platform to portray his
ideologies to the public (58). Considering his political activism, he used rib cracking
humor to enlighten the public on many issues that faced the African American
society at the time (Rossing 59). He mostly

Scurvy (a vitamin C deficiency) had plagued the world for multiple centuries until
actions were finally taken in attempt to find an antidote. Scurvy is a disease which
results from insufficient intake of vitamin C and leads to the spots on the skin,
spongy gums and bleeding from almost all mucous membranes. Vitamin C
deficiency and scurvy was hastened in the age of sail because of the rigorous
working conditions for sailors. The diet of sailors during the age of sail was
obviously the main factor in the plight of scurvy. As VitaminC cannot be produced
internally by humans, it must be ingested through the diet. By examining the history
of vitamin C, one can fully appreciate the advances made in its research. Surprisingly,

Abstract
Adult learning is a key to having a higher expectation in life. Drawback like personal
and social obligations, finical worries and a need for instant results often get in the
way of most adults attempt of achieving further education. The most important factor
in achieving higher learning in adulthood is simply the willpower to commit to the
process. As in most cases adult learning is purely voluntary. Once you have
committed the next step is to put aside bias gained by personal experience and
instead use it as a resource. To find what knowledgewill maximize their educational
needs to contribute to their motivation to secede. Then choose the learning style that
best fits their personality.
How To Succeed in Adult Learning
Motivation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Deep learners respond well to the challenge of controlling a difficult and complex
issue. Intrinsic motivation often compliments this style. Strategic learners are
motivated primarily by rewards. They try to make the best grade, but only if they
can see a clear reward to it. Often the competition and the opportunity to beat others
is all the reward need, mainly extrinsic motivated. Surface learners are often
motivated by a desire to avoid failure. This learning style does just what need for
each assignment and moves along to the next, never wanting to be the best but is
happy with a passing grade. Most often there motivation is a mixture of intrinsic and
extrinsic. This dash is often in dispute with the learner motivation is the most likely
not to deliver the goods.
For whatever style that best suits the adult learner the next tone is to use it. If the
learner needs to set rewards for a completion of a course or work assignment, then
one needs to be mapped out in controlled factor. Using a course outline to meet the
reward to complete project by offering encouragement to finish them in a timely
fashion. For intrinsic learners a course outline should also be employed to set
realistic performance goal for them self. Above all remembering adult learning is
what you chose to do, and utilizing the correct style and motivation will allow you to
49. Fauves Attributes In Art
Introduction
The colour attributes could be separated into three parts: hue, saturation and
luminance. In the colour theory, the hue refers to the colour of images, while
saturation describes the intensity (purity) of the hue (Steven, 2013). The saturation is
thus identified as the intensity of colours in artworks which is ranged from pure
colour to grey. A single colour is purer as the saturation increases, while the saturation
decreases as the colour goes paler. The aim of this assignment is to describe and
analyse the Fauves paintings, an artistic genre which speaks highly of saturation more
than hue or luminance, as saturation could better express their personalities and
feelings.
The Fauvism was founded in 1905 in France by twentieth century modern artists.
Unlike the others, the Fauvism could be absolutely deemed as a unique genre as it
does not have special theory and principle yet is promoted by large numbers of
artists in a short period (Freeman, 1990). This artistic style is in favour of creating a
strong effect of paintings through bright and colours by announcing emotional
expressionism. The Fauves absorbs the essence of Oriental and African arts, then
crease a unique simple and sparse prospect on purpose. One of the most famous
painting works named The Creole Dancer (as shown in Fig.1), painted by the
greatest artist of the Fauves, Henri Matisse, is presented below and is to develop a
demonstration of how saturation interferes differently (Roger, 2009).
50. The National Department Of Homeland Security
The events of September 11th, 2001 forever changed the organizational make up of
Emergency Management. Prior to 9/11, FEMA was the premier organization in the
United States that dealt with any sort of disaster management. While FEMA was not
without its own particular struggles early on, it had grown into an effective program;
often emulated by other Governments for its effectiveness. As the primary
Emergency Managementfunction for the United States it was afforded a cabinet
level position; thus allowing direct access to the President (Haddow, Bullock,
Coppola, 2011). Functioning as its own entity, FEMA was also able to spend its
money as they saw fit, develop its own hierarchy, and most importantly; decide
which natural disasters/emergencies to focus a majority of their resources on.
Unfortunately for FEMA all of that was lost with the creation of The Department of
Homeland Security (DHS). According to (Haddow, Bullock, Coppola, 2011), In the
aftermath of September 11, 2001, when the Department of Homeland Security was
established and FEMA lost its status as an independent agency, emergency
management became a minor player (p. 343). The shift from a focus on natural
disasters, to a focus on terrorism has been detrimental for FEMA. First and foremost,
FEMA lost its cabinet position and the direct line to the President that it was afforded.
While funding was accelerated to DHS in quantities never before seen in emergency
management, FEMA, being a subordinate of
51. Criminal Prosecution And The Judicial Process
Criminal prosecution develops through various stages in the judicial process
beginning with the arrest of an individual and ending at a point before, during, or
after a trial. The criminal procedure is based on the constitutional laws, statues, and
court rulings that are meant to render justice in a criminal case. The government must
follow these procedures during the entirety of a criminal case. Beginning with the
initial investigation of an individual suspected of a crime, through the arrest, jailing,
arraignment, and thereafter. Although they must act within the boundaries of the
law and protect an individual s right to the 4th amendment of the constitution,
police officers are allowed to conduct investigations, perform search and seizures,
and arrest individuals that are suspected of a crime. Police officers do not need
justification to stop someone and question them, but in order to search an
individual a police officer must have probable cause. In order to make an arrest,
the officer must either observe an individual committing a crime, have probable
cause that a crime has been committed by that person, or have a valid arrest
warrant. There is no scale to measure what probable cause is, so at the time of
arrest, this is completely at the officer s discretion. This can cause officers to subdue
the wrong individuals or make faulty decisions. Judges have the final say on what
constitutes probable cause, and police officers must be able to ultimately justify their

The fear of blood that Unoka had is what separated him from Okonkwo because of
this Okonkwo made sure he would bathe in the blood of his enemies, rather than

Okonkwo collected heads. Okonkwo stormed into battle for his tribe and
decapitated his enemies. These heads showed that he was a warrior and not the
woman his father was. The killing of Ikemefuna further displayed how ruthless
Okonkwo was. The oracle had decided that Ikemefuna was to be killed, Although,
Okonkwo wished not to kill Ikemefuna, at the time, he was insecure of showing how

53. Resistance Of A Solute From Concentration
Introduction
Cells must move materials throughout membranes and cytoplasm in order to keep on
maintaining homeostasis. This movement is regulated through cellular membranes,
which are selectively permeable. Membranes have phospholipid bilayers, containing
embedded proteins. The phospholipid fatty acids hinder the flow of H2O because of
its hydrophobic behavior.
The cellular environment is aqueous, meaning that the solutes dissolve in water
(solvent). Water may cross voluntarily through the membrane by osmosis. Most ions
move through protein channels, while transport proteins import larger molecules like
carbohydrates.
The simplest form of movement is diffusion, where solutes move from an area of high
concentration to low concentration. Diffusion is directly related to molecular kinetic
energy, taking in no energy input. The movement of a solute from an area of low
concentration to high concentration requires energy input (ATP).
The process by which water moves through membranes by a special kind of diffusion
is called osmosis. Like solutes, water moves down its concentration gradient. Water
moves from areas of high potential to low potential. The high potential contains low
solute concentrations, while the low potential contains high solute concentrations. In
surrounded cells, osmosis is affected not only by the solute concentration, but also by
the defiance to water flow by the cell wall, known as turgor pressure.
The terms hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic are used
54. The Concept Of Female Sexuality In Dracula By Bram
Stoker
The novel of Dracula ignites a number of different anxieties in society during the
era in which the author Bram Stoker writes his book. A major theme throughout
the novel is the concept of female sexuality. Female sexuality in the novel
represents and produces terror and uncertainty of the female nature to men. The
narratives of the book animate the idea that the sexual expression of women
unman the male characters. The author portrays this concept through the element
of vampirism during the course of the novel. The author in addition, brings forth
the concept of repression and rejection through violence towards women. The two
main female characters of the novel represent this specific ideology are Lucy
Westenra and Mina Harker. The character of Lucy Westenra is an example of the
expression of the female nature. The traditional role of women in this time period
becomes muddled through the theme of female sexuality and old traditional ideas
begin to shift. Lucy, one of the aristocratic figures in the novel, is mainly
concerned with attending parties begins to worry about marrying a man and
having money. Typical ideology of society during this time in history is for
women to be kept pure and innocent in order to appeal to a possible suitor.
However, Lucy voices a new manner of thinking when choosing a suitor, Why can
t they let a girl marry three men, or as many as want her, and save all this trouble?
(Stoker 67) A girl during this era having thoughts such as these about three men is
seen be to be scandalous and practically sinful. A man can pursue a woman, but a
woman cannot engage in pursuing a relationship independently. The character of
Lucy becomes acutely confident in expressing her intimate emotions and begins to
lose the ideal characteristics of a traditional woman. The author emphasizes her
beauty as the novel begins and slowly builds up on that until she is too highly
sexualized. The transformation of Lucy into a vampire is seen as a man s fear of a
woman becoming sexual predators that make them question their ability as dominate
men. The transition of Lucy can represent the release of her sexual desire that does
not conform to society norms any longer, which allows her to experience freedom
from
55. Success In Plato s Allegory Of The Cave
Success can be defined in many ways; for examples some might think success is
surviving, while others view it as having millions of dollars in a bank account.
Success is also something that changes over time and is different for each person. In
history books success is America gaining independence, winning a war, or earning a
right to vote. As a society, successis at a bare minimum, and needs to improve. As
individuals, the journey for success is always ongoing and ever changing as an
individual s view of success changes. The journey for improvement and
enlightenment consists of many factors that a society or individuals need to do to be

In Allegory of the Cave, the prisoners believe what is shown to them by the
shadows on the cave walls because that is all they have ever known, so that is
what they believe to be the truth (Plato 1). The prisoners don t realize that there is
more, much like people in society today. People have begun to listen not to what
would help them, but only to what makes them feel better. People are starting to
only listen to a part of the statement or laws. People believe what they see, like the
how they believe what the government or the media tells the public. Most of the
time there is no reason for the people to dig deeper and no reason not to believe
what they hear or are shown. People listen to the government because it is all they
know; the government has its down sides but, in the past, it has proven to be helpful
and important. However, at other times, the government has been deceitful, such as
with the Tuskegee Experiment and the Japanese American internment during World
War II. Individuals search for the truth for many different reasons, either they have
been tested on why they believe what they do, or they are questioned and must
prove it. People have begun to take the easy way out and believe the first idea that
they see or hear instead of looking into it and doing their
56. The Misuse Of Drugs Act
Laws are created by parliament which is made up by the MP S society votes for
during the election process. The Misuse of Drugs Act (1971) was introduced to
prevent the misuse of controlled drugs such as cannabis, amphetamine and other
drugs stated in the Act. The Act attempts to prevent the misuse of drugs by making
it a criminal offence to be in possession or supply, manufacture, import and export
drugs (Drugscope, 2015). The Act also gives the Home secretary authority to ban
new drugs and increase the penalties associated with them. Sometimes the
government will set out a proposal for a new law in a document known as a green
paper which then faces scrutiny and discussion this could be by experts in the area
that the proposed Law intends to change/ affect or a select committee within
parliament. The proposal can then be changed and made into a white paper. This
then forms the Bill which gets introduced into Parliament (Making laws: How a
law is made part 2 of 2, 2009). There are 2 different types of Bills a private and a
public Bill. The Misuse of Drugs Act (1971) was a public Bill as it affects the
public. These also have 2 categories, government Bills and Private member bills.
The Misuse of Drugs Act (1971) was a government Bill. A bill goes through a
consultation stage where the opinion of others is noted on what the proposed Law
should say. This usually takes place before the Bill is introduced to Parliament. A
Bill can either go through the House of Commons or Lords
57. The Effect Of Analyzed Chemical Energy Of Sodium
Chloride...
Practical Investigation: Enthalpy of Solution
Introduction
The enthalpy of a substance or solution refers to the chemical energy or heat content
that is stored within the substance. When a substance undergoes a reaction, the
chemical energy in the substance is released or more energy gets absorbed into the
substance; this is known as exothermic and endothermic reactions, respectively.
Within this practical, the aim was to investigate the change in stored chemical energy
of a sodium chloride solution by measuring the temperature change that occurs when
sodium chloride is added to distilled water. The experiment was carried out by using a
calorimeter, to contain any energy that could be released in the reaction, and also a
hand held thermometer and digital thermometer to measure the change in temperature.
Aim
The aim of this practical is to investigate and compare the effectiveness of hand held
thermometers and digital probes through determining the enthalpy of sodium chloride
solutions.
Hypothesis
When the sodium chloride is added into the water inside the calorimeter, an
endothermic or exothermic reaction will occur, indicating a change in enthalpy from
the water to the solution. The digital probe will most likely give a more accurate
reading of the temperature change, thus giving more accurate results.
Variables
Independent: the independent variables in this experiment were the water and the
solution. The water physically reacted with the sodium chloride to create a
