Among The Hidden Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic "Among The Hidden" can be a challenging endeavor. The
complexity arises from the need to delve into the intricacies of the novel, explore its themes,
characters, and plot nuances, and offer insightful analyses. As an essayist, you're tasked with not
only summarizing the storyline but also deciphering the underlying messages and social
commentaries woven into Margaret Peterson Haddix's narrative.
To begin with, you must thoroughly understand the novel, unravel its layers, and grasp the
author's intentions. This requires a careful reading, critical thinking, and the ability to connect the
dots between different elements of the story. The characters in "Among The Hidden" are
multifaceted, and understanding their motivations and development throughout the novel is
crucial for a comprehensive analysis.
The themes explored in the book, such as government control, individuality, and the
consequences of a dystopian society, demand thoughtful exploration. Drawing connections
between these themes and real-world issues requires a keen analytical mind and a capacity to
present arguments coherently.
Structuring the essay poses another challenge. Balancing the introduction, body paragraphs, and
conclusion while maintaining a logical flow and coherence is essential. Each paragraph must
contribute to the overall argument and showcase a deep understanding of the subject matter.
Moreover, finding the right balance between providing a summary of the plot and offering
original insights can be tricky. The essay should go beyond a mere retelling of events and strive
to provide a fresh perspective that adds value to the reader's understanding of "Among The
Hidden."
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic "Among The Hidden" demands a combination of
analytical skills, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the novel. It requires the ability to
navigate the complexities of the plot, characters, and themes while presenting a well-structured
and compelling argument. Success in this endeavor comes from not only mastering the content
but also effectively conveying your insights. For those seeking assistance in similar endeavors,

During the early 1800s, two parties were developed having different perspectives on
government and the Constitution. The Democratic Republicans, led by Thomas
Jefferson and James Madison, were always characterized by following the strict
construction of the constitution. The Federalists, led by Alexander Hamilton, were
characterized by following the broad construction of the constitution. The
presidencies of Jefferson and Madison proved this characterization to be somewhat
accurate. Although the Democratic Republicans and the Federalists did support their
own ideas and views, they also did many things that contradicted them. The
Democratic Republicans started out by supporting their ideas fully and confidently.

He recommended a charter of the national bank and a tariff to protect young
industries. In Document F, John Randolph implies that Madison has surrendered his
republican ideals and is emulating a more federalist point of view when the
administration called for the tariff of 1816. In conclusion, Madison s actions did not
coincide with the original ideals of the party. The Federalists also were greatly
confident in their views of the Constitution and the government. Once again, in
Document A, Jefferson states that the views of the Federalists were wrong. By
stating this, it simply displays the views of a Federalist. The letter shows that the
Federalists had different perspectives and the disagreements the two parties had.
During Jefferson s term, John Marshall became the most dominant Federalist figure
in the federal government. Under Marshall s domination, the Supreme Court retained
a Federalist outlook even after Democratic Republican justices achieved a majority in
1811. The Court consistently upheld federal supremacy over the states and protected
the interests of commerce and capital. Over the years, Marshall significantly
increased the Supreme Court s power over the country, demonstrating the idea of a
Federalist, the idea of a powerful central government. Just like the Democratic
Republicans, the Federalists also had a hard time with their principles. In the speech

The Dangers Of Children On The Playground
Children on the playground are often quick to react to perceived violent actions by
fellow youth. Quips like You hit me so I will hit you can be heard. The children
are all grown up now, their names are America and the Soviet Union, and
furthermore the stakes are immensely superior to a playground squabble. In 1945,
there was no doubt the Allies would win the wars versus Germany and Japan,
however, the unanswerable question was: How long, and how any lives, and how
much destruction would there be before the Axis powers capitulated Bridger, S.
(2016)? Like children on the playground, a dangerous game was played with the
stakes of worldwide destruction. This tit for tat preventative became known as
mutually assured destruction (MAD) The A Bomb, made in America with all its
destructive power was inconceivable to many. However, after use on the cities of
Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and the horrific devastation which resulted, the world
took notice. The A Bomb was the new Playstaion, everyone kid wants the newest
Playstation. Unfortunately the A Bomb is not a game console, but a device
unthinkable devastation. At the end of the 1960 s era movie called Dr. Strangelove
it depicts the lunacy of the mutually assured destruction concept, and the fragility of
how close to the brink of destruction the world is (Dr Strangelove, 2016). The
movie ends with the actor Slim Pickens riding atop an atomic bomb dropped in from
an American B 52(Dr Strangelove, 2016) . As baffling as this

It usually depends on the firm s average costs, and on the customer s perceived value

Additionally to third degree price discrimination, the supplier(s) of a market where
this type of discrimination is exhibited are capable of differentiating between
consumer classes. Examples of this differentiation are student or senior discounts.
For example, a student or a senior consumer will have a different willingness to
pay than an average consumer, where the reservation price is presumably lower
because of budget constraints. Thus, the supplier sets a lower price for that
consumer because the student or senior has a more elastic price elasticity of
demand. The supplier is once again capable of capturing more market surplus than
would be possible without price discrimination. Third Degree Price Discrimination

Addressing Employee Relations And Human Resource
Management
Addressing Employee Relations
As she sat in her office in Winnipeg, Britney MacPherson thumbed through a
textbook on human resource management. As manager of the Winnipeg location of
Maple Leaf Shoes, she was responsible for the day to day operations of the facility.
However, Britney was finding her job particularly challenging although she had a
B.Com., which she received in
1994 from a well known Ontario university, her training had been focused on
accounting and finance and she had had only one course in human resource
management. Things were unravelling in Winnipeg, and Britney knew that she
needed help. Unfortunately, her phone calls and emails to head office in Wilmington,
Ontario, brought little assistance.
The company policy regarding employee communications was quite simple: What
goes on at the company stays at the company. This policy was communicated
regularly to all employees. However, Joan Jorgenson, a clerk in the office, had
violated this policy. A couple of weeks ago, Joan had struck up a conversation with a
coworker, Natalie King. During their talk, Natalie had mentioned that she had
recently moved from Wilmington to Winnipeg, because, according to Natalie, a
senior member of management in the Wilmington office had become enraged when
Natalie refused his sexual advances. He had threatened Natalie with dismissal, but
after a short discussion an agreement was reached that Natalie would move to the
Winnipeg location. Joan became enraged when she heard Natalie
Should Organizations Fear Websites Where Consumers

Should organizations fear websites where consumers post negative or
uncomplimentary messages about products or services?
I would not use the word fear; however, organizations and consumers should be
cognizant of such websites and the impact that the sites can have on any type of
business.
Give an example of a corporate website where negative and/or uncomplimentary
messages have been posted.
The importance of relying on scholarly peer reviewed articles and journals become
clearer with each passing day; it is difficult to discern fact from fiction.
According to reports, Amy s Baking Company (ABC) displayed a classic meltdown
after finding itself the topic of ridicule following an episode of a renowned television
show titled Gordon Ramsay s Kitchen Nightmares (SEJ, 2014). Tepper (2013)
shared with readers that during the show, the owners of ABC were observed
withholding tips from employees and initiating a disturbance with a customer who
inquired about his order after an hour s wait. As result of the owners behavior, the
host of Kitchen Nightmares walked off the show which consequently led to bad
reviews for the company and negative feedback from the public.
To add insult to injury, the owners opted to use their Facebook account to dispute
comments which entailed statements that were considered rather disparaging
remarks (SEJ, 2014). The owners of ABC claimed that the comments posted on the
Facebook page were made by someone who had apparently hacked into their

Paradigm
In The Spandrels of San Marco and the Panglossian Paradigm: A critique of the
Adapationist Programme by Gould and Lewontin the article discusses about natural
selection not being the overall general reason for the evolution of species. Gould and
Lewontin provide a pluralistic approach of how species are evolved rather than
basing on natural selection. Therefore, these scientists used the central dome of St
Mark s Cathedral in Venice to represent the other possible explanations of the
evolutionin species. Most importantly, Gould and Lewontin used spandrels and
other findings as an analogy to parallelize the evolution of organisms as an
unintentional byproduct of the species. Gould and Lewontin introduce spandrels
as triangular spaces between the arches and dome. The spandrel is designed in
such a way that is exclusively fitted towards its space. Also, the spandrel shows
severe complexity in intricate designs as well. If one were to look at the detailed
design on the spandrel; he or she would question how the spandrel was able to stay
in its shape and form without losing its detail. This is when Gould and Lewontin
declare that the spandrel is just a simple byproduct of the mounting dome. There was
no adaptation of the spandrel to form its shape and size. The reason why the spandrel
is in its form is because it was an unintentional product of the mounting dome. Gould
and Lewontin used the spandrel as a metaphor towards biologyto explain that species
are able to have
Impact Of Incarceration Of Young Offenders
What Impacts Incarceration of Young Offenders in the United States By Cedric
Washington (Abstract) This study is to examine the impact of offenders under the
ages of 18 becoming incarcerated in United States. In society today there a lot of
young children of all races incarcerated throughout America. All around the world
there are different classes of people that form a community. Within these
communities, population grows and grows on a yearly basis. When looking at the
topic of youth offenders, this issue I believe is a direct result of social placement.
The environment that a child is brought up in will eventually dictate their path in
life. A child that grows up in a household with both parents has a better chance to be
successful. This single way of thinking can easily be altered, clearly depending on the
child. The question that is being brought to the forefront is what components factor in
incarcerated teenagers. Most of the young adults being incarcerated upon release will
likely recommit similar crimes in the future. Being in adolescent the human mind is
similar to a sponge when it comes to retaining information. Emotional, physical and
visual knowledge opens the door for many different possibilities to be withheld in an
individual. As a young adult I believe it is important that youth are actively involved
in positive activities. Curricular activities that will help provide a social and mental
foundation for them to
Feminist Equality And Equality
No matter what the race, gender, or sexuality is of a human being, they deserve to
be treated equally. In this position, equality and equity shouldn t be based upon
your gender or sexuality. Feminism can be explained by a diverse variety of
beliefs, ideas, movements, and events for action. Feminism can also be explained by
a versatile approach to the issues of equality and equity based on gender, sex, and
sexuality through social and political activism of women.
Unfortunately, Feminism proves that women are currently not being held equal to
men. Feminism is composed of economic, social, political, and cultural issues for
powers and rights. Women don t have the same power and rights compared to men.
Any action that may be organized or non organized that promotes changes to society
that is a disadvantage against women is Feminism. The advantages men have over
women is biased and sexist. A man and woman should have the same advantages,
powers, and rights in this society.
Feminism approaches a different culture and values that affects the culture and
activism individually and groups to make personal and social change towards the
more desirable culture. Feminism now focuses on inequalities and inequities that
are cooperated with the ability, class, gender, race, sex, and sexuality, that feminists
are trying to change power inequity can t be created. Feminist political activities
have been coming together to campaign in areas such as reproductive rights,
domestic violence, fairness, social justice, and work place issues. Different cultures
are biased and only allow women to wear certain clothes, perform certain tasks,
authority to speak, etc. Women are deceived as powerless and easy to some men and
other sexist people.
The word Feminism was first referred to women s freedom or emancipation. The
word first appeared in French as feminisme in the 1870 s. Hubertine Auclert used
the term feminist about herself and others working for women s freedom. In 1890,
the word Feminist was being used in Europe and in 1894 it came into America.
After the First International Women s Conference in Paris in 1892 was used daily
in English for a belief in equal rights for women based on the idea of the equality of
the sexes.
The Tragedy Of Offensive Realism And The Rise Of China
The tragedy of offensive realism: Classical realism and the rise of China
Realism is one of the most dominant international relations theories in the academic
world. But within Realism, Realists are split on a number of issues. A perfect
example of which being the rise of China. Over the past 30 years China has
increased not only in population and power, but has also achieved one of the
strongest economies in the world. The rise of China is seen as problematic by many
realists. Since the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union, the US has
enjoyed a position of hegemony in the unipolar power structure of the world. Many
fear that the rise of China could upset the current balance of power. One such
individual is a prominent realist scholar, John Mearsheimer. He believes that war with
China is inevitable and calls for the US to do whatever it can to slow China s rise.
Another political theorist Jonathan Kirshner wrote this paper to counter many of
Mearsheimer s claims, stating that Mearsheimer s offensive realism is wrong, and
dangerous . Kirshner suggests that instead of using offensive realism we should look
instead to the theories roots in classical realism to analyse the rise of China.
For realists the international system is anarchical, war is an ever present threat and
the survival of a state is never guaranteed. This is why security is the main focus of
most realists. States are forever seeking greater amounts of security, in a never ending
search.

Global Business Cultural Analysis: France

Abstract This paper will focus on the many elements and dimensions of France and
the affect it has on the business that takes place locally and internationally. There will
be constant comparisons and contrasts between France and the United States of
America taking place throughout this entire research article. I will focus on how the
elements and dimensions of the culture separately are adapted by the locals and
integrated into everyday life and business. I will also give insight on how to conduct
business in France for other countries, mainly the United States, by talking about the

They have a great appreciation for it, however, they tend to enjoy arguments and
disagreements. They look at these things as interesting. They value someone that
can argue with great skill. This is a complete contrast of the United States. We tend
to try to avoid arguments and look down upon it. We try to be liked and attempt to
agree with people that we are trying to build a relationship with or hold a
conversation with. The French would rather voice their opinions and appear non
hypocritical than to agree or compromise how they feel. When it comes to
interacting with people, France and the United States differ greatly. The people of
France tend not to smile or have an expression when meeting new people. In the
United States, we tend to smile and greet people as we have known them for a very
long time. Edward MacNeal talks about growing up in a bicultural environment and
noticing the differences between French and American interactions. He states in his
journal French American Misunderstandings, ...the French don t smile at people they
don t know. They think it s hypocritical (2003). This nature is why many Americans
view French people to be rude or snobbish. MacNeal also says that the American
assumption is that we are all friends and the French assumption is that we are all
strangers. This very assumption could hinder interaction between people of the two
nations. So with that being said, when doing business with
Symbolism In Pan s Labyrinth
Pan s Labyrinth is one of the most amazing fantasy films. It combines the wonderful
fairy tales and the cruel fascist history, challenging the audiences understanding. Faun

existence of these two worlds at the same time is the most fantastic element in this
film. An eleven year old girl is controlled under the rules from both of her dream
world and the factual world. However, she does not flinch for the power of fascism

dark power, the ugliness and the inhumanity of fascism, and Ofelia is like the
guerrilla in the factual world who is brave, wise and just. It is amazing that del Toro

Comparison Of Poverty And Gordon Parks Flavio s Home
Jo Parker writing What is Poverty? and Gordon Parks writing Flavio s Home are
both stories about the dangers of poverty. I feel both authors did a very good job
describing the horrors of living in poverty. Both authors show in their writing the
dangers of poverty from food being scarce, disease, to having no money for health
needs. Even though there were several similarities in the stories, I believe that the
difference life styles of living in povertyshows the main purpose of both stories.
Both authors began their story on how living in a poverty neighborhood consisted
of smelling sewage, urine, feces and garbage that collected in the roads. Parker
describes how Poverty is living in a smell that never leaves (209). Parks also wrote
how he found a young kid named Flavio who lived in a favela outside Rio de
Janeiro living in poverty. Parks wrote how the favela had Garbage and human
excrement clogged the open sewers snaking down the slopes. (214)

One difference being the when Parker wrote about poverty, she wrote it in first
person, meaning she was the one who lived the story and poverty. When reading
Parks story, Parks writes about someone else living in poverty and the effects on that
person or people s lives.
Another difference I saw was how poverty ruined the marriage of Parker. Parker
writes how when she was married, that her family had a house but her husband
ended up losing his job. This put a lot of stress on the family where eventually the
husband left (Parker 211). Parks write how the mother and father come home at night
while Flavio is helping with getting supper and the fire ready. Even though the family
lives in a poverty stricken community, the mother and father were still together (Parks
Reflection Paper On Being A Nurse
Being a nurse takes its toll on emotions and really puts through tough times with
dying patients or patients that are just plain out rude. And at first, I thought that
being emotionally involved with the patient was not allowed because it made it
harder to do your job. I was wrong being emotionally involved makes you a better
nurse and makes it seem like you are an actual person and not a mechanical being
taking care of patients. We went to say goodbye. We went there for comfort from our
family. We went there to give comfort before the end. Arriving in Wyoming at around
eleven we wanted to see my auntRitti before she died. Getting to the hospital I was
calm and collected but as soon as I walked into the room my emotions were all
scrambled. Her head tilted back and her mouth was wide open so she could breathe,
she was skinnier, pale, and there were bags under her eyes. She was lying there
motionless, the only thing that she could move were her eyes. I only knew one way
to handle a situation dealing with death, cry. After saying hello to my aunt Ritti I said
hello to my aunts Tuesday and Rhonda, uncles Daryl and David, and my mother s
parents. We stayed in the hospital talking and catching up and including my aunt in
the conversation. Around one in the morning my uncleDaryl sent us to go get some
rest because the plan was to see her off. The next morning we got up at six, arrived
at seven and when we got into her room my uncle Daryl said she had declined in the

Functions Of An Effective Corporate Governance
Homework #1
1.Corporate governance is the set of guidelines that determine how a company is run.
These guidelines are created by management and approved/monitored by the board of
directors. It s important for a company s corporate governance to align with the
direction the stakeholders want the company to go in.
The most important component of an effective corporate governance structure is how
it determines power distribution between the three key stakeholder groups:
shareholders, board of directors, and management. Power needs to be divided equally
among these three groups in order to protect each party s interest in the company. If
one group has substantially more power than the others, it will enable them to make
business decisions that solely benefit their group. A corporate governance structure is
similar to the US Government s balance of power through the use of three branches
of government.
Another key element is how the corporate governance structure effects the election
of the board of directors. Now more than ever, it s important for organizations to
display good corporate citizenship through ethical behavior and environmental
awareness. A company s board of directors should consist of a wide variety of
business people with different backgrounds and areas of expertise. This diversity
will help the board make well rounded decisions including appointing managers with
the same amount of diversity as the board. By electing a diverse board of directors, it
helps
Love Songs Essay
Every day on the radio, there is bound to be a love song playing somewhere. These
types of songs can seem upbeat and happy, but that is just the music playing behind
the lyrics. The music in these songs are written in a major key which make the song
sound lively and cheerful. Even with the darkest meaning behind the lyrics, the music
can give off different perspectives. Many people believe that lovesongs are about
love but in reality some of those songs have a depressing story behind them. Many
love songs are not love songs at all if one examines the lyrics.
In fact the song It will rain by Bruno Mars is a clear example of a love song with a
complete different meaning to it than love. The verse if you ever leave me baby

One last thing he says is I can t feel my face when I m with you, but I love it. This
refers to the state of being wasted or high. He loves the emotions and feeling he gets
when he is doing these drugs.
Furthermore, another example of a song with a darker meaning would be Little
Talks by Of Monsters and Men. This song is another example of many songs that
don t quite refer to love. For instance this song without paying close attention to the
lyrics is a conversation between two people that love each other. In reality it s an
illusion a woman is having with a supposed man as stated in the verse, I miss our
little talks. As the song continues the woman gives of a hint when the song reads,
you re gone, gone, gone away... Just let me go, we ll meet again soon. This verse
foreshadows that the woman is slowly getting lost in mental illness after the death of
her partner. That s why her illusions are fulfilling that empty space that her partner
left behind when he died. Many artists write songs that can be interpreted in many
different ways, and the songs stated above are not an exception to this rule. Taking a
closer look at the lyrics and analyzing them can show a better meaning of what the
artist is trying to tell the listener. Many artists try to conceal a hidden message in their
songs to hide their darkest secrets to prevent a bad reputation against them. With the
different songs
Five -Year Plan Essay
Five Year Career Development Plan

March 24, 2011
When developing a good five year career plan I had to ask myself where, I wanted to

school in thought, I knew my career path. I was convince I was going to become a

teaching. However, my transition would not be as smooth as once believed.
According to Career vision, (2004), for some people, the five year career plan may be

I am repeatedly informing my older child of how important it is to go to college
and obtain his degree. When I complete my studies I will be able to show him the
journey was not easy but obtainable. Another goal for my five year plan is to be debt
free. While in college I have many student loans that I need to pay off. I want to
completely pay off my student loan debt in five years or less. I believe this task
can be accomplished if I stay to my budget plan. The benefits of paying the loans
off early would help me with interest rates, and it will also help me increase my
credit score, which will help me when it is time to open my husband and me
restaurant.
Promotional Opportunities Upon completion of my bachelor s degree program, I will
try to seek employment with my hospital human resources department as a generalist.
I currently work with staffing and with a bachelor s degree in management; I believe I
would be ready to move up to a higher level. The transition from staffing to human
resources I believe would be smooth, because I am familiar with the hiring process
and I am also knowledgeable with dealing with outside staffing agencies.
Career Management According to Career vision (2004), Career management is the
lifelong process of investing resources to achieve your career goals. Career
management is not a singular event but a
Cost And Purpose Of Sales Promotion
1: INTRODUCTION
1.1. Introduction to sales promotion
Meaning and Purpose of Sales Promotion:
Sales promotion consists of all promotional activities other than advertising, personal
selling and publicity that help to increase sales through non repetitive and one time
communication. In other words, it includes marketing activities other than personal
selling, advertising, and publicity, that stimulate consumer purchasing and dealer
effectiveness, such as point of purchase displays, shows and exhibitions,
demonstrations and various non recurring selling efforts not in the ordinary routine.
Purpose: The ultimate aim or purpose of sales promotion is that of increasing the
volume of sales and profits but it differs from advertising and personal ... Show more

For example, the greater the geographical dispersion of a target market, the greater
the communication expenditure required. Similarly, if an offering is in its early life
cycle, there is a greater need of expenditure. But promotion budget should always
justify the tasks to be undertaken. A basic principle would be the cost and returns of
sales promotion tools to be adopted. Hindustan Lever has its well drawn up sales
promotion budget. If any business house does not have its promotion budget fixed,
then promotion programmes will have to be designed to support the marketing plan.
(vi) Government regulations:
Government has passed various laws and made rules to protect the consumer interest,
such as the prevention of Food Adulteration Act, the Drugs and Magic Remedies
(Objectionable Advertisements) Act, and Drugs and Cosmetics Act etc. Sales
promotion policy must take into consideration the government regulations relating to
the particular product, e.g. the commodity rates must be specified on the package and
in case of medicines drug contents and date of manufacturing, date of expire, and
price must be

At the functional level, it was about changing the stores to be more presentable and

about the volume driven strategy and at a corporate level it is about Wesfarmers

What can be learnt from the event? How does this event (a news item) contribute to a

These strategies are not used in all companies, but can prove that cost advantage
influences competitive advantage in any business.
It is important to do internal analysis of a company to determine what can be change
in order to gain competitive advantage. Through looking at the internal analysis for
Kmart it was important to look at the supplier s power, the target market and the
volume driven strategy.
So at business level strategy a business must look at their competitors, overall profits,
low pricing, new store opening and advertising. Through Kmart adapting to cost
leadership it meant the company focused on low prices, high volumes being sold and
high market shares. Can you predict the further development of the situation? What
might happen next?

Hope Floats Essay
Hope Floats
The movie I decided to watch is called Hope Floats. This is a great movie, and it
not only should be about love, but it showed me about life. Do you think you can
fix your life and get it back on the right track all on your own? All you have to do is
just have to give hope a chance and believe that everything will get better someday.
There is always a time in everyone s life when something horrible happens.
Sometimes it something that changes your very course of life in an instant. Then
life becomes difficult and it seems all you can do is give up on everything. But it
does not have to be like that at all. Your life is not over, you just hit a rough spot

Dottie, polka dot s real name, finds out Birdee loves to take pictures so she finds her
a job at the local photo store, which was nice of her for what Birdee did to her.
For Birdee s mother finding a job was not good enough. She wanted her to move on
with her live and maybe find a new boyfriend. This is where Justin Matisse comes
into the movie. He was not one of the popular kids in high school, but he s had a
crush on Birdee for the longest time, even thought she was not particularly nice to
him or interested him at all. Birdee s mother wants these two to get together and
date. But she even thought her husband hurt her very badly, she just can t seem to
get over it. Birdee has had two things in her life that she s cherished. One of them
being the man in her life and the other is being a mother, and now it seems like she
has neither. Now she does not have any of these things. Her husband cheated on her
and her daughter is extremely upset with the split of her parents and the fact that
Birdee is always depressed and always in bed, she soon thinks her mother is the one
to blame for the split.
Bridees daughter Bernice, does not like Justin very much, she wants what most kids
want, which is for her parents to get back together, but that s an unrealistic
expectation. She does not want to see her mom get into another relationship in fear of
the same thing happening twice. Bernice thinks her father is going
What Is The Operation Of The High Rate Activated Sludge

Three main experimental activities have been conducted during this research.
Operation of the High Rate Activated Sludge (HRAS) Process, analysis of relevant
parameters and Biochemical Methane Potential tests for different Solids Retention
Times (SRT s). The research methodology implemented in these activities is described
and summarized in this chapter.
4.1 Influent Wastewater
In this investigation, the influent is domestic wastewater collected and treated at the
Luggage Point (LP) Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), Brisbane Australia.
Experimental trials are conducting with a stream of raw sewage, which is passing

The Bio P is an anaerobic pre reactor tank installed prior to the HRAS with the
purpose to remove biologically the incoming phosphorus from the wastewater (See
Figure 2). It has approximately a capacity of 65 Liters.
The (HRAS) reactor is a cylinder tank with a volume capacity of 250 Liters (See
Figure 3). This aeration reactor is fitted with two aeration blowers, which are
providing fine (0 3 mm) and coarse (3 50 mm) aeration. The fine aeration maintains
aerobic stable conditions; meanwhile, the coarse aeration delivers the adequate
mixing to avoid a possible vertical stratification into the system. The total air
supplied per m3 of the tank is 3 m3/m3.d. A DO6441/ T membrane probe measures
the dissolved oxygen levels in the bioreactor and assist to control the airflow to the
bioreactor.
In addition, pH has also been monitored into the reactor using a glass body pH probe
(SP 8000 CD, Sensorex, Australia).
4.2.2 The Settling Tank
The settling tank is a tilted plate clarifier with a volume capacity of 800 Liters. Its
structure has a diagonally modified bottom (See Figure 4). An internal Return
Activated Sludge (RAS) recirculation has being installed to facilitate the settleability
of the Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids (MLSS) in the process. Moreover, it assist
the prevention of growth bacteria on the sidewalls of the clarifier. In order to impart
little mixing in the clarifier due to the recirculation, a timer was installed and set to

Domestic Violence In The Shining
Despite the increased emphasis on spirits as representing the psychological rather
than as purely supernatural, the movie does lose some of the direct representation
and explanations of history in the novel. Many of the scenes directly explaining
and going through what happened in the hotel (that the dead woman in the bathtub
is an old woman who had an affair and committed suicide, for example, the gangster
violence that happened in the presidential suite is completely left out, and the
party Jack finds in the book is explained and given context as one of the opening
parties of the Overlook) are left out. Jack s desire to write a book inspired by the
hotel and a scrapbook he found documenting its history are also left out, scenes which

As a result so much of the Shining deals with the way history informs and creates
individuals and interpersonal violence. One of the most iconic scenes of The
Shining played in its commercial, played in Danny s mind over and over again is
the vision of the elevator full of blood. The essay Death by Typewriter begins by
pointing out this specific scene of The Shining. The scene opens and gallons of
the stuff pour out, flooding the room and even converting the lense of the camera.
More blood than two men, Dick Hallorann and Jack Torrence being the only actual
casualties of the film, could hold. Even added Wendy and Danny as best casualties
all the blood isn t explained, it s an impossibly huge wave of mysterious red liquid.
But perhaps when you add all the casualties of the Overlook Hotel in the Native
American fight for their burial ground repelled , Grady and his family, the corpse in
the bath of room 237, and, according to Geoffrey Cocks, the blood of all the violence
of the 20th century perhaps then you get enough. With the violence of oppression, the
historical violence of racism, colonialism, and misogyny, considered the scene and
Analysis Of Les Miserables By Victor Hugo
Les MisГ©rables was written by Victor Hugo, who was born on February 26, 1802
and died May 22, 1885. He is a French poet, novelist, and dramatist, and most
important French Romantic writers. His parents separated, due to different
political views and Hugo s father traveling from base to base. Victor Hugo adopted
his mother s royalist political views as a child. Although he graduated from a law
faculty at Paris as a poor student, he knew he wanted to pursue a career in writing.
In 1822, he married his childhood friend, AdГЁle Foucher, with whom he had five
children. Soon after, he published his book of poems, Odes et poГ©sies diverses.
Because of how much royalism was in the book, he earned recognition from King
Louis XVIII. After publishing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around 1853 he became absorbed in spiritualism. He wrote The Contemplations in
1856, which is considered the peak of his lyrical accomplishment and many more
poems concerning spirituality and history. He published The Legend of the
Centuries, The End of Satan, and God around this time. He also published Toilers
of the Sea, The Man Who Laughs, and Ninety Three in the same time period. He
returned to France in 1870 and was reelected to the National Assembly. The was
then elected to the Senate. He died on May 22, 1885 and is buried in the Pantheon.
Victor Hugo s most famous work is either Les MisГ©rables or The Hunchback of
Notre Dame. Les MisГ©rables looks at the political, social, and religious upheaval
that followed the Napoleonic Wars and Europe s great democratic revolutions by
creating relatable characters from different backgrounds of life that find their
fates cross. The book examines the French political and judicial system, as well as
subjects like love, religion, philosophy, justice, and redemption. The story was
later turned into a play and a movie, adding to its popularity. The Hunchback of
Notre follows the story of Quasimodo who is saved from beatings by the gypsy
Esmeralda. Quasimodo returns the favor and saves Esmeralda from hanging. He
offers her sanctuary in the chapel, but that is soon revoked by the Court. Quasimodo
tries to protect Esmeralda and fights those who are trying to kill her. But she is
betrayed by Frollo and is hanged. Quasimodo

The Short-Term Effects Of Cocaine
Cocaine is produced as a white chunky powder extracted from the leaves of the coca
plant, which is indigenous to South America. It is a brain stimulant and one of the
most highly addictive drugs. Cocaine stimulates the brain s reward system inducing
an even greater feeling of pleasure than natural functions. Cocainehas been used for
centuries by Indians. In the mid 1800 s its effects were praised among others. Until
1906, this substance was a chief ingredient of Coca Cola and was also used as a
anesthetic. The danger associated with cocaine was ignored in the 1970s and early
1980s, and cocaine was proclaimed by many to be safe.
The primary methods of ingesting cocaine are snorting, plugging, swallowing, and
injecting. The duration of cocaine s effects depends upon the route of administration.
The faster the absorption, the more intense the high. But, the faster the absorption,
the shorter the duration of the high. The high from snorting is slow, and may last 15
to 30 minutes, while from smoking may last 5 to 10 minutes. ... Show more content

William Shakespeare s Hamlet And King Lear
American literary critic Harold Bloom, known for his love of Shakespeare said,
Shakespeare is universal... he has hidden himself behind all of these extraordinary
men and women. Shakespeare is able to connect with many who encounter his work
by creating a range of characters such as heroes in the form of Hamletor villains in
that of Claudius. Playwright William Shakespeares Hamlet and King Lear
demonstrate the manipulation of family to achieve one s ends. Personal gain
through family is a significant contributing factor to both of these tragedies. Their
gifts of language and its delivery is a clear example as well as these villains having
no qualms about ignoring morals, and betraying their own blood. Despite the tragic
endings, there is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the same time, he tries to establish his role as a father figure to Hamlet while
addressing the Danish Court, and informing them of his marriage to his brother s
widow. Tis unmanly grief/ It shows a will most incorrect to heaven/ A heart
unfortified, a mind impatient/ ... And with no less nobility of love/ Than that which
dearest father bears his son (Hamlet 1.2.94 96, 110 111). Claudius calls Hamlet s
grieving unmanly and urges him to move on, because death is only natural.
Moreover, he insultingly claims to feel the most honourable love that a father can
have for his son.
In comparison, the main plot in King Lear starts to develop quickly from the
beginning when Lear holds a contest for his daughters. He claims that whichever
one of them loves him the most will receive the biggest piece of the kingdom upon
his retirement. Regan and Goneril, seizing an opportunity for power, are quick to
flatter their father with the empty words they know he is seeking. I love you more
than word can wield the matter;/ Dearer than eyesight, space and liberty;/ ...
Beyond all manner of so much I love you (King Lear 1.1.56 57, 62). Goneril
immediately catches on telling her father that words alone can never express her
love. She says that she loves him more than those comparisons she has made. Not to
be outdone, Regan has her chance at claiming that her love for Lear is greater than
that of her
Literary Analysis Of Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman
Can we eat turkey for supper? the boy asked. In one line Godwin presents a reader
with enough levels of complexity to easily fill an entire essay; why is one of the
most prominent characters (and the son of the main character referred to as the
boy ? Does his focus on the tuckey emphasize his love of the idea and duties of a
mother, as opposed to the actual person? Yet all of these quarries pale in
comparison to an analysis of the text preceding this small quote. The end of
Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman demonstrates the power of rhetoric, contrast, and
detached narration in creating the text s message that the archetypal role of
mother and wife is so constricting and limiting to cause the mother to end her life.
Word choice proves one of the more fascinating aspects of Godwin s text,
specifically her use of repetition emphasize relevant details that may have
otherwise gone unnoticed. The most prominent example of this comes in the two
hand knitted sweaters (both of the same gray color) As a stand alone quote, no one
word stands out. Yet in the beginning of the text the child s gray eyes are
referenced, in conjunction with The shirt was the gray of the child s trusting gaze.
The continuation of the gray motif of the text highlights a few key details. First,
gray is used with some frequency in literature to act as a symbol for depression, and
even beyond the realm of literature Professors from the University of Manchester
have recently developed a color chart
Egg Drop Experiment Essay
For an egg drop machine to be successfully protected the egg when it drop at a
certain height, the creator must have an idea of it weight and the way it drop. It
also depend on other factor, like the surface it is drop to, because if it a hard surface,
the chance of the egg breaking will be higher than sand surface.
The formula for this design is F=ma= Ft=mV
For this, the mass is important, because if the machine is to heavy, it will drop faster
and the impact will be heavier, the chance of the egg breaking will also increase,
while if the weight is light, it will drop slower and the impact will also less. So
basing this equation, and because of the restriction of material and rules, I decided
to designed a machine that have small square box, and in it, there is a cone that
will contain the egg. I thought of this design because I think of how the small
square box will absorb the instead of the cone impact cone, so the egg will had a
higher chance of survive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

into a cone, I created two gap small near the middle of the cone, then I put the straw
and two wooden stick in the gap, and on the middle of the wooden stick and straw,

Technology And Social Effects Of Technology On Children
Social Effect of Technology on Children Alarm clock goes off checks phone, sitting
on the bus plays games, eating dinner with the family texting friends, trying to go to
bed scrolls through social media... this has become the everlasting cycle that drives
the typical teenage kid into social destruction and retrains them from witnessing first
hand experiences of the real world. As the new generation becomes teenagers, we
can see the social development and can research how our technological age has
affected them. The easy and typical solution can be shown to cause everlasting
consequences and needs to be redirected towards a moderate perspective for
educational purposes. We will draw ideas from American Psychological Association,
International Journal of Technology, behavioral scientists, and parents to compare
the facts and logic behind the effect of technology on children and the solution to
the problem. First, we need to view the nation s children as a whole to lay the
foundation to the problem that arises. About 75% of children from ages eight to ten
have their own smartphone as of 2016 and the percentage has exponentially
increased since (Kids Wireless). The effects of smartphones on these children have
become prevalent to the everyday person. While walking around the mall or going to
a restaurant with your family, it has become impossible to ignore the fact that kids
have their faces stuck in front of the screen. In class, teachers are constantly berating
In 1970 Began The Spread Of Swiss Typography. The
Postmodern
In 1970 began the spread of Swiss typography. The postmodern generations began
looking for a new design solution by using the new technical means that were
becoming available. Two of these great designers were Wolfgang Weingart and Hans
Rudolf Lutz. These men are vastly different but their designs have many similarities.
They were both trained typesetters and experienced creative limits and wanted to
seek more training. They both attended the school of Schule FГјr Gesteltung Basel,
where they both were taught by Emil Ruder. Aside from their normal classes students
could pursue individual projects in the schools typesettingworkshop. This is where

During the time Weingart spent at his apprenticeship that he really began to
experiment. It was here when he meets Karl August Hanke who was also a former
student of Basel School of Design. His work possessed an impulsiveness and careful
carelessness that excelled the teachings of Swiss design of that period. It was during
these early stages that Weingart essential understanding of the limitations of vertical
composition in lead typesetting, coupled with the strict technical and visual discipline
of his apprenticeship and his natural rebellious nature, drove him relentlessly to
pursue a more experimental approach. It was from these strict rules that Weingart
wanted to move away from and add a more fun carelessness to his designs.
Weingart first experiment was by accident when he dropped a draw full of six
point type and while reorganizing it he decided to try something that was out of
the ordinary. He made a circle out of cardboard and filled it with all the type until it
was full. Once full he printed on the type side and then flipped it over and printed on
the opposite side. Giving him a new the illusion of depth which later is known as a
sphere. This broke the rules and branched out into a whole new territory for him to
continue experimenting with. After seeing them printed on either side, Weingart
noticed a
What Is The Theme Of Freedom In Barn Night
The novel portrays the american theme of freedom throughout the entire book. It
is shown between every character in the forms of spirit, adventure, new

major event in the novel applies to the theme of freedom and it is what happens
after the Barn Night prank. After the Barn Night prank was accomplished and the

uncertain as to whether it was a suicide or a accident, but was caused when Alaska

Corruption In Isaac s Storm By Erik Larson

Was it innovation or greed and corruption that played a pivotal role in making the
United States the leading industrialized nation in the world during the late 19th
Century and early 20th Century, also known as the Gilded Age? In the book, Isaac s
Storm by Erik Larson the author describes how greed and corruption by the United

1900 [Larson]. In addition, well researched essays by Henry Demarest Lloyd and
Emma Goldman back up Larson s theory that the Gilded Age was actually a very
dark time for the United States.

Nature is rich; but everywhere man, the heir of nature, is poor. Lloyd begins his
work by complaining about how the rich remain rich and the poor remain poor;
however, as the essay progresses, one can see the accuracy of his views. He
references the creation of Adam and Eve, stating that, Never since time began have
all the sons and daughters of men been all warm, and filled, and all shod and roofed.
It s been true throughout history that because of monopolies that a very small
percentage of men control a majority of land and resources. Lloyd states that
individuals holding a majority of resources and land believe that that there is a
scarcity; that there is not enough. And in order to survive, in order to be happy, in
order to be prosperous, they must contain and constrain. Men must hold on to any and
everything they can get their hands on. The minority has an opposing viewpoint. It
feels that there is an abundance of resources, but because of unequal distribution,
there is never enough to go around: There is too much iron, too much lumber, too
much flour―for this or that syndicate. The majority have never been able to buy
enough of anything; but this minority have too much of everything to sell. Lloyd
concludes by expressing that we have become a mutual deglutition. He states that we
have advanced too quickly and implicates that we are beginning to reverse
The El Nino Southern Oscillation
Abstract The El NiГ±o Southern Oscillation is a complex sequence of natural
climate variations that take place in the tropics of the Pacific Ocean, yet affect the
climate of the entire globe. The climate phenomenon, known as ENSO, has three
main phases that each differ markedly in their atmospheric and oceanic conditions.
El NiГ±o, also known as the warm phase , is the first cycle that begins when warm
water in the eastern Pacific Oceanshifts to the west toward South America. During
El NiГ±o, the east to west trade winds halt and sometimes reverse directions,
causing significant disturbances in the biological life of the Pacific Ocean.
Conversely, La NiГ±a is the complete opposite of El NiГ±o. La NiГ±a, also called
the cold phase brings unusually strong east to west winds and colder temperatures
along the equatorial Pacific. Both phases have consequences that affect the regular
atmospheric conditions of the world; El NiГ±o is linked to both droughts and
floods, La NiГ±a is linked to extreme tropical cyclones and monsoon rains. The
climatic events also have relationships to forest fires, economic changes, famine,
plagues and widespread crop failure. The study of ENSO is necessary in order to
attempt to reveal patterns and key factors that can affect the intensity and severity of
this phenomenon that occurs globally on average every two to seven years.

Red King Crabs Stomach Analysis
Red king crabs were collected for stomach analysis and abundance estimates by
using a specially designed beam trawl, previously used in surveys for stock
assessment by the Institute of Marine Research (IMR). The crab trawl is 6 m wide,
1 m high, and is equipped with a 135 mm mesh size polyethylene net (Sundet
Berenboim 2008). The hauling speed was approximately 1.65 kn. It was not possible
to use a fixed standardized trawling distance because of the changing and rocky
bottom topography. Four hauls were also performed with a shrimp bottom trawl in
2005, to catch fishfor stomach analysis for another study not included in this paper.
However, as red king crabs were caught during four of these hauls (Table 3), stomach

Viking Women Roles
An ancient Scandinavian civilisation, known today as The Vikings, explored Europe
and Scandinavia by sea, in order to trade, raid, pillage and conquer. During a period
referred to as The Viking Age, the Vikings settled and colonised in Greenland,
Newfoundland, The Faroe Islands, Iceland, Normandy, Scotland, Ukraine, Ireland,
England, Russia and Anatolia. There is evidence that Viking women reached the
majority of the Viking World, from Russia in the east to Newfoundland in the west.
Although, it is difficult to separate the voices of Viking women from the
predominantly male chorus, women played various fundamental roles in Scandinavia
during the Viking Age. Despite the Viking s partial endorsement of female rights and
gender equality, there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The duty of a Viking woman was to successfully equip her family with sufficient
nourishment throughout the irksome winter months. Viking women would create
food products, construct garments of clothing, brew ale, care for her children and
collect milk from livestock. If the family was of a high ranking position, the Viking
women would have slaves to assist her in the completion of the household duties. The
Viking women were responsible for caring for the wounded, ill and elderly due to
their extensive knowledge of herbs and their medicinal properties. In addition, within
her family unit, a Viking woman also controlled the religious rituals, sacrifices and
offerings that were made to the gods. Moreover, when the Viking men were
marauding through uncharted terrain, participating in raids or hunting, the women
were trusted with the responsibility of tending to the farm land. Thus, the Viking men
controlled the elements of the Viking life that occurred outside the home, and the
Viking women organised the matters that took place inside the home. However, some
Viking women chose weapons over cooking utensils and became warrior women or

Music Day
Music affects people in various ways. Ones reaction to music differs from person
to person. It can evoke emotions of both joy and happiness. Music can stir up old
memories of different times, places, and people. In the U.S. a major part of life is
music, as stated by Natalie Guice Adams and Pamela J. Bettis, American institution
that can tell us something about ourselves, like jazz, baseball, and cheerleading,
are also not static but being created anew with each generation. (Remix 240.) One
can see how large of a role music plays in people s lives, and that s why I m

Everyone from popular artists to local bands would hit the stage and play just for
the love of music. Free concerts available in just about every town for everyone to
enjoy. This would give people a chance to go hear their favorite music artists. This
opens up the idea of travel on Music Day. People and their families may want to go
see a performer who is far away, and what better way to go on a small family
vacation. I can just hear it now, Hey Kids pack your bags were going to New York
City for Music day. The key to this aspect of the holiday is for all the concerts to be
free of charge, so that way everyone who wants to has the option to go listen to
professional musicians. Whether it is the symphony, a bluegrass show, a solo
pianists, the latest rap artist, or even a heavy metal band performances would be
taking place all day so there is always something for everyone. Parents can go down
to the jazz club, or check out an oldies concert while the kids see the local punk
bands performing just down the block. This event would of course be massive and
require a lot of planning and thought, but a holiday celebrating the joy music brings
to our lives is well worth that. Plus Music Day would be a holiday everyone would
look forward to. Going to concerts is fun and exciting. People pay big bucks to see
professionals do their thing on stage and walk away feeling like they got the best out
of their money. The free concerts would be gain public popularity in no time at all,
Dea Is A United States Department Of Justice Enforcement...
The Drug Enforcement Administration also known as DEA is a United States
Department of Justice law enforcement agency. Their purposes is to enforce the law
to stop the sale of illegal drugs, drug trafficking, investigate major crimes within the
United States and internationally, and to secure and protect our communities from
ever confronting drugs. D.E.A. also cooperates with many major law enforcement
agencies such as federal, state, local, and overseas law enforcement agencies to stop
criminals from smuggling drugs in our territory and help the people from getting
involved with drugs. Other responsibilities include investigating major crimes,
carrying out mission, and detain drugtraffickers operations in interstate and

The United States have declared that it is doing its best to combat the war on drugs.
The drug problem has not stopped and the people continue to buy drugs no matter
what circumstances they are obtained. With drugs prices rising, people are willing
do anything to get drugs even if it leads them to become involved in criminal
activities such as robbery. The money and military activity have not been enough, and
the urban problem, has not been resolved. The United States has the largest demand
of drugs in the world. While other countries also face the drug problem, the United
States has spent the most money and law enforcement; however, its effectiveness is
questionable. Consequently, now there is a great amount of drugs coming from
Mexico s borderline into the United States. The drug cartels have become more
violent, killing Mexican officers and innocent people in order to smuggle their drugs.
The United States needs more security control and better coordination between
agencies to fight the violent Mexican drug war spilling across the southern border.
There is not enough organization between the D.E.A and other groups such as the
Department of Homeland Security. The United States has little hope of winning the
war unless enough protection on the border and Border States are developed. The
agencies need better coordination between the federal, state and locals agencies in
order to prevent more drugs to cross

  • 1. Among The Hidden Essay Crafting an essay on the topic "Among The Hidden" can be a challenging endeavor. The complexity arises from the need to delve into the intricacies of the novel, explore its themes, characters, and plot nuances, and offer insightful analyses. As an essayist, you're tasked with not only summarizing the storyline but also deciphering the underlying messages and social commentaries woven into Margaret Peterson Haddix's narrative. To begin with, you must thoroughly understand the novel, unravel its layers, and grasp the author's intentions. This requires a careful reading, critical thinking, and the ability to connect the dots between different elements of the story. The characters in "Among The Hidden" are multifaceted, and understanding their motivations and development throughout the novel is crucial for a comprehensive analysis. The themes explored in the book, such as government control, individuality, and the consequences of a dystopian society, demand thoughtful exploration. Drawing connections between these themes and real-world issues requires a keen analytical mind and a capacity to present arguments coherently. Structuring the essay poses another challenge. Balancing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion while maintaining a logical flow and coherence is essential. Each paragraph must contribute to the overall argument and showcase a deep understanding of the subject matter. Moreover, finding the right balance between providing a summary of the plot and offering original insights can be tricky. The essay should go beyond a mere retelling of events and strive to provide a fresh perspective that adds value to the reader's understanding of "Among The Hidden." The Democratic Republicans, led by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, were always characterized by following the strict construction of the constitution. The Federalists, led by Alexander Hamilton, were characterized by following the broad construction of the constitution. The presidencies of Jefferson and Madison proved this characterization to be somewhat accurate. Although the Democratic Republicans and the Federalists did support their own ideas and views, they also did many things that contradicted them. The Democratic Republicans started out by supporting their ideas fully and confidently. In Jefferson s letter to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He recommended a charter of the national bank and a tariff to protect young industries. In Document F, John Randolph implies that Madison has surrendered his republican ideals and is emulating a more federalist point of view when the administration called for the tariff of 1816. In conclusion, Madison s actions did not coincide with the original ideals of the party. The Federalists also were greatly confident in their views of the Constitution and the government. Once again, in Document A, Jefferson states that the views of the Federalists were wrong. By stating this, it simply displays the views of a Federalist. The letter shows that the Federalists had different perspectives and the disagreements the two parties had. During Jefferson s term, John Marshall became the most dominant Federalist figure in the federal government. Under Marshall s domination, the Supreme Court retained a Federalist outlook even after Democratic Republican justices achieved a majority in 1811. The Court consistently upheld federal supremacy over the states and protected the interests of commerce and capital. Over the years, Marshall significantly increased the Supreme Court s power over the country, demonstrating the idea of a Federalist, the idea of a powerful central government. Just like the Democratic Republicans, the Federalists also had a hard time with their principles. In the speech by

Quips like You hit me so I will hit you can be heard. The children are all grown up now, their names are America and the Soviet Union, and furthermore the stakes are immensely superior to a playground squabble. In 1945, there was no doubt the Allies would win the wars versus Germany and Japan, however, the unanswerable question was: How long, and how any lives, and how much destruction would there be before the Axis powers capitulated Bridger, S. (2016)? Like children on the playground, a dangerous game was played with the stakes of worldwide destruction. This tit for tat preventative became known as mutually assured destruction (MAD) The A Bomb, made in America with all its destructive power was inconceivable to many. However, after use on the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and the horrific devastation which resulted, the world took notice. The A Bomb was the new Playstaion, everyone kid wants the newest Playstation. Unfortunately the A Bomb is not a game console, but a device unthinkable devastation. At the end of the 1960 s era movie called Dr. Strangelove it depicts the lunacy of the mutually assured destruction concept, and the fragility of how close to the brink of destruction the world is (Dr Strangelove, 2016). The movie ends with the actor Slim Pickens riding atop an atomic bomb dropped in from an American B 52(Dr Strangelove, 2016) . As baffling as this

It usually depends on the firm s average costs, and on the customer s perceived value of the product in comparison to his or her perceived value of the competing products. Different pricing methods place varying degree of emphasis on selection, estimation, and evaluation of costs, comparative analysis, and market situation. Additionally to third degree price discrimination, the supplier(s) of a market where this type of discrimination is exhibited are capable of differentiating between consumer classes. Examples of this differentiation are student or senior discounts. For example, a student or a senior consumer will have a different willingness to pay than an average consumer, where the reservation price is presumably lower because of budget constraints. Thus, the supplier sets a lower price for that consumer because the student or senior has a more elastic price elasticity of demand. The supplier is once again capable of capturing more market surplus than would be possible without price discrimination. • 5. Addressing Employee Relations And Human Resource Management Addressing Employee Relations As she sat in her office in Winnipeg, Britney MacPherson thumbed through a textbook on human resource management. As manager of the Winnipeg location of Maple Leaf Shoes, she was responsible for the day to day operations of the facility. However, Britney was finding her job particularly challenging although she had a B.Com., which she received in 1994 from a well known Ontario university, her training had been focused on accounting and finance and she had had only one course in human resource management. Things were unravelling in Winnipeg, and Britney knew that she needed help. Unfortunately, her phone calls and emails to head office in Wilmington, Ontario, brought little assistance. The company policy regarding employee communications was quite simple: What goes on at the company stays at the company. This policy was communicated regularly to all employees. However, Joan Jorgenson, a clerk in the office, had violated this policy. A couple of weeks ago, Joan had struck up a conversation with a coworker, Natalie King. During their talk, Natalie had mentioned that she had recently moved from Wilmington to Winnipeg, because, according to Natalie, a senior member of management in the Wilmington office had become enraged when Natalie refused his sexual advances. He had threatened Natalie with dismissal, but after a short discussion an agreement was reached that Natalie would move to the Winnipeg location. Joan became enraged when she heard Natalie

I would not use the word fear; however, organizations and consumers should be cognizant of such websites and the impact that the sites can have on any type of business. Give an example of a corporate website where negative and/or uncomplimentary messages have been posted. The importance of relying on scholarly peer reviewed articles and journals become clearer with each passing day; it is difficult to discern fact from fiction. According to reports, Amy s Baking Company (ABC) displayed a classic meltdown after finding itself the topic of ridicule following an episode of a renowned television show titled Gordon Ramsay s Kitchen Nightmares (SEJ, 2014). Tepper (2013) shared with readers that during the show, the owners of ABC were observed withholding tips from employees and initiating a disturbance with a customer who inquired about his order after an hour s wait. As result of the owners behavior, the host of Kitchen Nightmares walked off the show which consequently led to bad reviews for the company and negative feedback from the public. To add insult to injury, the owners opted to use their Facebook account to dispute comments which entailed statements that were considered rather disparaging remarks (SEJ, 2014). The owners of ABC claimed that the comments posted on the Facebook page were made by someone who had apparently hacked into their

The Spandrels Of San Marco And The Panglossian Paradigm In The Spandrels of San Marco and the Panglossian Paradigm: A critique of the Adapationist Programme by Gould and Lewontin the article discusses about natural selection not being the overall general reason for the evolution of species. Gould and Lewontin provide a pluralistic approach of how species are evolved rather than basing on natural selection. Therefore, these scientists used the central dome of St Mark s Cathedral in Venice to represent the other possible explanations of the evolutionin species. Most importantly, Gould and Lewontin used spandrels and other findings as an analogy to parallelize the evolution of organisms as an unintentional byproduct of the species. Gould and Lewontin introduce spandrels as triangular spaces between the arches and dome. The spandrel is designed in such a way that is exclusively fitted towards its space. Also, the spandrel shows severe complexity in intricate designs as well. If one were to look at the detailed design on the spandrel; he or she would question how the spandrel was able to stay in its shape and form without losing its detail. This is when Gould and Lewontin declare that the spandrel is just a simple byproduct of the mounting dome. There was no adaptation of the spandrel to form its shape and size. The reason why the spandrel is in its form is because it was an unintentional product of the mounting dome. Gould and Lewontin used the spandrel as a metaphor towards biologyto explain that species are able to have
  • 8. Impact Of Incarceration Of Young Offenders What Impacts Incarceration of Young Offenders in the United States By Cedric Washington (Abstract) This study is to examine the impact of offenders under the ages of 18 becoming incarcerated in United States. In society today there a lot of young children of all races incarcerated throughout America. All around the world there are different classes of people that form a community. Within these communities, population grows and grows on a yearly basis. When looking at the topic of youth offenders, this issue I believe is a direct result of social placement. The environment that a child is brought up in will eventually dictate their path in life. A child that grows up in a household with both parents has a better chance to be successful. This single way of thinking can easily be altered, clearly depending on the child. The question that is being brought to the forefront is what components factor in incarcerated teenagers. • 9. Feminist Equality And Equality No matter what the race, gender, or sexuality is of a human being, they deserve to be treated equally. In this position, equality and equity shouldn t be based upon your gender or sexuality. Feminism can be explained by a diverse variety of beliefs, ideas, movements, and events for action. Feminism can also be explained by a versatile approach to the issues of equality and equity based on gender, sex, and sexuality through social and political activism of women. Unfortunately, Feminism proves that women are currently not being held equal to men. Feminism is composed of economic, social, political, and cultural issues for powers and rights. Women don t have the same power and rights compared to men. Any action that may be organized or non organized that promotes changes to society that is a disadvantage against women is Feminism. The advantages men have over women is biased and sexist. A man and woman should have the same advantages, powers, and rights in this society. Feminism approaches a different culture and values that affects the culture and activism individually and groups to make personal and social change towards the more desirable culture. Feminism now focuses on inequalities and inequities that are cooperated with the ability, class, gender, race, sex, and sexuality, that feminists are trying to change power inequity can t be created. Feminist political activities have been coming together to campaign in areas such as reproductive rights, domestic violence, fairness, social justice, and work place issues. Different cultures are biased and only allow women to wear certain clothes, perform certain tasks, authority to speak, etc. Women are deceived as powerless and easy to some men and other sexist people. The word Feminism was first referred to women s freedom or emancipation. The word first appeared in French as feminisme in the 1870 s. Hubertine Auclert used the term feminist about herself and others working for women s freedom. In 1890, the word Feminist was being used in Europe and in 1894 it came into America. After the First International Women s Conference in Paris in 1892 was used daily in English for a belief in equal rights for women based on the idea of the equality of the sexes.
  • 10. The Tragedy Of Offensive Realism And The Rise Of China The tragedy of offensive realism: Classical realism and the rise of China Realism is one of the most dominant international relations theories in the academic world. But within Realism, Realists are split on a number of issues. A perfect example of which being the rise of China. Over the past 30 years China has increased not only in population and power, but has also achieved one of the strongest economies in the world. The rise of China is seen as problematic by many realists. Since the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union, the US has enjoyed a position of hegemony in the unipolar power structure of the world. Many fear that the rise of China could upset the current balance of power. One such individual is a prominent realist scholar, John Mearsheimer. He believes that war with China is inevitable and calls for the US to do whatever it can to slow China s rise. Another political theorist Jonathan Kirshner wrote this paper to counter many of Mearsheimer s claims, stating that Mearsheimer s offensive realism is wrong, and dangerous . Kirshner suggests that instead of using offensive realism we should look instead to the theories roots in classical realism to analyse the rise of China. For realists the international system is anarchical, war is an ever present threat and the survival of a state is never guaranteed. This is why security is the main focus of most realists. States are forever seeking greater amounts of security, in a never ending search.

  • 16. Functions Of An Effective Corporate Governance Homework #1 1.Corporate governance is the set of guidelines that determine how a company is run. These guidelines are created by management and approved/monitored by the board of directors. It s important for a company s corporate governance to align with the direction the stakeholders want the company to go in. The most important component of an effective corporate governance structure is how it determines power distribution between the three key stakeholder groups: shareholders, board of directors, and management. Power needs to be divided equally among these three groups in order to protect each party s interest in the company. If one group has substantially more power than the others, it will enable them to make business decisions that solely benefit their group. A corporate governance structure is similar to the US Government s balance of power through the use of three branches of government. Another key element is how the corporate governance structure effects the election of the board of directors. Now more than ever, it s important for organizations to display good corporate citizenship through ethical behavior and environmental awareness. A company s board of directors should consist of a wide variety of business people with different backgrounds and areas of expertise. This diversity will help the board make well rounded decisions including appointing managers with the same amount of diversity as the board. By electing a diverse board of directors, it helps

Many people believe that lovesongs are about love but in reality some of those songs have a depressing story behind them. Many love songs are not love songs at all if one examines the lyrics. He loves the emotions and feeling he gets when he is doing these drugs. Furthermore, another example of a song with a darker meaning would be Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men. This song is another example of many songs that don t quite refer to love. For instance this song without paying close attention to the lyrics is a conversation between two people that love each other. In reality it s an illusion a woman is having with a supposed man as stated in the verse, I miss our little talks. As the song continues the woman gives of a hint when the song reads, you re gone, gone, gone away... Just let me go, we ll meet again soon. This verse foreshadows that the woman is slowly getting lost in mental illness after the death of her partner. That s why her illusions are fulfilling that empty space that her partner left behind when he died. Many artists write songs that can be interpreted in many different ways, and the songs stated above are not an exception to this rule. Taking a closer look at the lyrics and analyzing them can show a better meaning of what the artist is trying to tell the listener. Many artists try to conceal a hidden message in their songs to hide their darkest secrets to prevent a bad reputation against them. With the different songs

He claims that whichever one of them loves him the most will receive the biggest piece of the kingdom upon his retirement. Regan and Goneril, seizing an opportunity for power, are quick to flatter their father with the empty words they know he is seeking. I love you more than word can wield the matter;/ Dearer than eyesight, space and liberty;/ ... Beyond all manner of so much I love you (King Lear 1.1.56 57, 62). Goneril immediately catches on telling her father that words alone can never express her love. She says that she loves him more than those comparisons she has made. Not to be outdone, Regan has her chance at claiming that her love for Lear is greater than that of her
  • 28. Literary Analysis Of Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman Can we eat turkey for supper? the boy asked. In one line Godwin presents a reader with enough levels of complexity to easily fill an entire essay; why is one of the most prominent characters (and the son of the main character referred to as the boy ? Does his focus on the tuckey emphasize his love of the idea and duties of a mother, as opposed to the actual person? Yet all of these quarries pale in comparison to an analysis of the text preceding this small quote. The end of Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman demonstrates the power of rhetoric, contrast, and detached narration in creating the text s message that the archetypal role of mother and wife is so constricting and limiting to cause the mother to end her life. Word choice proves one of the more fascinating aspects of Godwin s text, specifically her use of repetition emphasize relevant details that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. The most prominent example of this comes in the two hand knitted sweaters (both of the same gray color) As a stand alone quote, no one word stands out. Yet in the beginning of the text the child s gray eyes are referenced, in conjunction with The shirt was the gray of the child s trusting gaze. The continuation of the gray motif of the text highlights a few key details. First, gray is used with some frequency in literature to act as a symbol for depression, and even beyond the realm of literature Professors from the University of Manchester have recently developed a color chart

It also depend on other factor, like the surface it is drop to, because if it a hard surface, the chance of the egg breaking will be higher than sand surface. The formula for this design is F=ma= Ft=mV For this, the mass is important, because if the machine is to heavy, it will drop faster and the impact will be heavier, the chance of the egg breaking will also increase, while if the weight is light, it will drop slower and the impact will also less. So basing this equation, and because of the restriction of material and rules, I decided to designed a machine that have small square box, and in it, there is a cone that will contain the egg. As the new generation becomes teenagers, we can see the social development and can research how our technological age has affected them. The easy and typical solution can be shown to cause everlasting consequences and needs to be redirected towards a moderate perspective for educational purposes. We will draw ideas from American Psychological Association, International Journal of Technology, behavioral scientists, and parents to compare the facts and logic behind the effect of technology on children and the solution to the problem. First, we need to view the nation s children as a whole to lay the foundation to the problem that arises. About 75% of children from ages eight to ten have their own smartphone as of 2016 and the percentage has exponentially increased since (Kids Wireless). The effects of smartphones on these children have become prevalent to the everyday person. While walking around the mall or going to a restaurant with your family, it has become impossible to ignore the fact that kids have their faces stuck in front of the screen. In class, teachers are constantly berating

The postmodern generations began looking for a new design solution by using the new technical means that were becoming available. Two of these great designers were Wolfgang Weingart and Hans Rudolf Lutz. These men are vastly different but their designs have many similarities. They were both trained typesetters and experienced creative limits and wanted to seek more training. They both attended the school of Schule FГјr Gesteltung Basel, where they both were taught by Emil Ruder. It was here when he meets Karl August Hanke who was also a former student of Basel School of Design. It was during these early stages that Weingart essential understanding of the limitations of vertical composition in lead typesetting, coupled with the strict technical and visual discipline of his apprenticeship and his natural rebellious nature, drove him relentlessly to pursue a more experimental approach. It was from these strict rules that Weingart wanted to move away from and add a more fun carelessness to his designs. Weingart first experiment was by accident when he dropped a draw full of six point type and while reorganizing it he decided to try something that was out of the ordinary. He made a circle out of cardboard and filled it with all the type until it was full. Once full he printed on the type side and then flipped it over and printed on the opposite side. Giving him a new the illusion of depth which later is known as a sphere. This broke the rules and branched out into a whole new territory for him to continue experimenting with. • 38. The El Nino Southern Oscillation Abstract The El NiГ±o Southern Oscillation is a complex sequence of natural climate variations that take place in the tropics of the Pacific Ocean, yet affect the climate of the entire globe. The climate phenomenon, known as ENSO, has three main phases that each differ markedly in their atmospheric and oceanic conditions. El NiГ±o, also known as the warm phase , is the first cycle that begins when warm water in the eastern Pacific Oceanshifts to the west toward South America. During El NiГ±o, the east to west trade winds halt and sometimes reverse directions, causing significant disturbances in the biological life of the Pacific Ocean. Conversely, La NiГ±a is the complete opposite of El NiГ±o. La NiГ±a, also called the cold phase brings unusually strong east to west winds and colder temperatures along the equatorial Pacific. Both phases have consequences that affect the regular atmospheric conditions of the world; El NiГ±o is linked to both droughts and floods, La NiГ±a is linked to extreme tropical cyclones and monsoon rains. The climatic events also have relationships to forest fires, economic changes, famine, plagues and widespread crop failure. The study of ENSO is necessary in order to attempt to reveal patterns and key factors that can affect the intensity and severity of this phenomenon that occurs globally on average every two to seven years. Introduction The El NiГ±o Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is one of the most important natural climatic phenomena on
