I) DIFFERENT CAREER STAGES OF AMITABH BACHCHAN
1) GROWTH STAGE:
Amitabh Harivansh Bachchan was born in Allahabad, India on October 11, 1942 to
Dr.Harivansh Rai and Teji Bachchan. In childhood Amitabh met Rajiv Gandhi (late prime minister) in
his school function and they both became friends. He completed his school life in Allahabad’s jnana
prabodhini.
2) EXPLORATION STAGE:
In Nainital’s Sherwood College he completed his HSC in Art stream. Later in Kirorimal
College in Delhi University he earned a degree in science.
In his 20’s, Bachchan gave up a job as freight broker for the shipping firm, Bird and
co, based in Calcutta.
3) ESTABLISHMENT STAGE:
After leaving job he came to Mumbai for becoming film hero, But he was not quite fair
enough as hero, So he started his career as voice narration and Background.
Bachchan made his film debut in 1969. Up to 1973 his film’s are not financially
successful at Box-office.
From 1973 onwards his films are started collecting huge collections, Blockbusters at
Box-office. In the same year only he married Jaya Bhaduri and gave a birth to Abhishek Bachchan
and Shweta Nanda.
On 26 July 1982, he was critically injured on the sets, He spent many months for
recovering from that incident, at that time he was almost to death.
4) MAINTENANCE:
In 1988 Bachchan returned to films and started focusing on films. But, In 1992 he
went into semi-retirement for 5years.
Innovation and updating:
After his semi retirement he came up with a new innovation that he want to start a
Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Ltd (ABCL) in 1996 with the vision of 10billion rupees premier
entertainment company by the year 2000.
After the failure of ABCL, Bachchan wanted to update his career in the media, so he
entered into Television sector in the year 2000 and hosted the KBC program. This was a huge
success of all the 6season.
After continuous failure as a hero, he turned his film career as supporting characters,
which leads to continues success as a supporting role and people are also accepted him as
supporting role comparing as hero.
II) MID CAREER CRISIS: (may opt for 2nd
career-work life, unfulfilled needs)
YES, Amitabh has a mid career crisis. In fact he has 2 mid career crisis.
1) In 1984, Amitabh took a break from acting and entered into politics for his childhood
friend Rajiv Gandhi, and won his MP candidacy by the highest victory margin in Indian history by
68.2% of the vote.
With in 3years, he resigned politics due to ‘Bofors Scandal’ by a news paper, which
he vowed to take to court, But he was eventually found not guilty of involvement in the ordeal.

2) In 1996, he started ABCL, due to poor maintenance it is failure and financially also lost
so much, due to pending loan recovery cases, Bombay high court restrained Bachchan from selling
off his bungalow and two flats. At that time his old friend Amar singh helped him financially for that
he support Amar singh’s political party, the samajwadi party for advertisement and political
campaigns. This activities has given him trouble again for false claims.
These two things Amitabh tried to be adopt as 2nd
career but due to some reason this
two goals became unfulfilled needs to his career.
According to me he was not successful in managing his mid carrier crisis.
III) IS HE SUCCESSFUL IN HIS CAREER?
According to my opinion he was successful in his carrier. Because, he started his
career with continuous flops, Even he is getting 13 flops also he not disappointed and left the film
industries. He just only focused on acting and his goal to become hero for that he worked hard and
got Success.By this he showed to world that FAILURES ARE THE STEPPING STONE OF
SUCCESS. Later his films are collected huge collections, block busters, industry hits, lot of awards
and he made himself as a brand ambassador.
In middle his mid career crisis time runs very worse, from that also he came up and
started successful life in KBC and Supporting characters.
According to me success means not only achieving every goal of you. It means that
achieving your goals must be impressed by others / contribute to society your achievements. In this
case he contributed so many things to society and he impressed people from his acting, so for me
he is successful in his career.
WHY IS HE SUCCESSFUL?
He is successful because of his hard work, dedication towards work and time,
commitment, perfect timing, attitude and behaviour.
COMPARING TO OTHER ACTORS:
1) He associated with various charity organisations, in fact the first mobile clinic named as ‘Amitabh’
in his honour.
2) Comparing to other actors he is very punctuality and value for another’s time. If he is late for few
minutes he will apologetic to them for his late.
3) He supports women and child welfare activities and he himself will stand as a voluntary.
CHARACTERISTICS VISIBLE IN HIS BEHAVIOUR:
1) He has a sharp memory; he never forgets the birthdays or special occasions of his close ones
and makes it a point to wish them each year.
2) During his struggling days, Amitabh had spent a few night’s on a bench at Marine Drive, Mumbai.
3) First Asian actor to have a wax model displayed at Madame Tussaud’s in London.
4) He was voted ‘star of the millennium’ by BBC online above legends like Laurence Oliver, Charlie
Chaplin and Marlon Brando.
