Evaluation question 2

1. Question 2: How does your
media product represent
particular social groups?

2. My music magazine represents a particular
social group by the way the cover artist looks
and is presented in the magazine. Also other
artists which have been featured in this
magazine. The artists which I have presented
are quite young in their 20's to mid 30's. Some
of the artists are R&B but I also included other
artists in the magazines from different genres
like grime but these are not my main features.

3. Featured Artists

4. These artists are all fairly young and are aimed
at late teenagers and younger adults which is
what my music magazine is aimed at. Another
thing about these artists are that they all
represent themselves in different ways and
dress in completely different fashions which is
also because of the genre of music they are
involved in. For example Stormzy and JME are
both grime artists and they dress like more
rough in tracksuits whereas the R&B artists
(Justin Bieber and Chris Brown) they have very
similar styles of clothing and tend to wear more
denim and smart casual.

5. The way the artists pose can also reflect
on their genre of music.. The grime artists
look more threatening and intimidating by
the way they stare into the camera. The
R&B artists have tried going for a cooler
look in which they don't look as
intimidating towards the audience also
because Chris Brown is looking down at
the floor which suits his style. For my
model, I have attempted a cooler look
rather than looking more serious as it
wouldn't suit the front cover and the genre
of the magazine. Although the first image
of the represented artists doesn't look as
similar in fashion to most R&B artists, I
attempted the hoodie look which I think
works well with the genre as it shows him
in his comfort clothing as there have been
pictures of R&B artists like Justin Bieber
not neccessarily wearing smarter clothing
but does often wear hoodies and joggers
which is still similar fashion.
