Hubble Asteroid Hunter III. Physical properties of newly found asteroidsSérgio Sacani
Context. Determining the size distribution of asteroids is key to understanding the collisional history and evolution of the inner Solar System. Aims. We aim to improve our knowledge of the size distribution of small asteroids in the main belt by determining the parallaxes of newly detected asteroids in the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) archive and subsequently their absolute magnitudes and sizes. Methods. Asteroids appear as curved trails in HST images because of the parallax induced by the fast orbital motion of the spacecraft. Taking into account the trajectory of this latter, the parallax effect can be computed to obtain the distance to the asteroids by fitting simulated trajectories to the observed trails. Using distance, we can obtain the absolute magnitude of an object and an estimation of its size assuming an albedo value, along with some boundaries for its orbital parameters. Results. In this work, we analyse a set of 632 serendipitously imaged asteroids found in the ESA HST archive. Images were captured with the ACS/WFC and WFC3/UVIS instruments. A machine learning algorithm (trained with the results of a citizen science project) was used to detect objects in these images as part of a previous study. Our raw data consist of 1031 asteroid trails from unknown objects, not matching any entries in the Minor Planet Center (MPC) database using their coordinates and imaging time. We also found 670 trails from known objects (objects featuring matching entries in the MPC). After an accuracy assessment and filtering process, our analysed HST asteroid set consists of 454 unknown objects and 178 known objects. We obtain a sample dominated by potential main belt objects featuring absolute magnitudes (H) mostly between 15 and 22 mag. The absolute magnitude cumulative distribution logN(H > H0) ∝ αlog(H0) confirms the previously reported slope change for 15 < H < 18, from α ≈ 0.56 to α ≈ 0.26, maintained in our case down to absolute magnitudes of around H ≈ 20, and therefore expanding the previous result by approximately two magnitudes. Conclusions. HST archival observations can be used as an asteroid survey because the telescope pointings are statistically randomly oriented in the sky and cover long periods of time. They allow us to expand the current best samples of astronomical objects at no extra cost in regard to telescope time.
ASTRONOMICAL OBJECTS DETECTION IN CELESTIAL BODIES USING COMPUTER VISION ALGO...csandit
Computer vision, astronomy, and astrophysics function quite productively together to the point where they are completely logical for each other. Out of computer vision algorithms the
progress of astronomy and astrophysics would have slowed down to reasonably a deadlock. The new researches and calculations can lead to more information as well as higher quality of data. Consequently, an organized view on planetary surfaces can change all in the long run. A new
discovery would be a puzzling complexity or a possible branching of paths, yet the quest to know more about the celestial bodies by dint of computer vision algorithms will continue. The detection of astronomical objects in celestial bodies is a challenging task. This paper presents
an implementation of how to detect astronomical objects in celestial bodies using computer vision algorithm with satisfactory performance. It also puts forward some observations linked
among computer vision, astronomy, and astrophysics.

Identifying Exoplanets with Machine Learning Methods: A Preliminary StudyIJCI JOURNAL
The discovery of habitable exoplanets has long been a heated topic in astronomy. Traditional methods for exoplanet identification include the wobble method, direct imaging, gravitational microlensing, etc., which not only require a considerable investment of manpower, time, and money, but also are limited by the performance of astronomical telescopes. In this study, we proposed the idea of using machine learning methods to identify exoplanets. We used the Kepler dataset collected by NASA from the Kepler Space Observatory to conduct supervised learning, which predicts the existence of exoplanet candidates as a three-categorical classification task, using decision tree, random forest, naïve Bayes, and neural network; we used another NASA dataset consisted of the confirmed exoplanets data to conduct unsupervised learning, which divides the confirmed exoplanets into different clusters, using k-means clustering. As a result, our models achieved accuracies of 99.06%, 92.11%, 88.50%, and 99.79%, respectively, in the supervised learning task and successfully obtained reasonable clusters in the unsupervised learning task.
TOI-5678 b: A 48-day transiting Neptune-mass planet characterized with CHEOPS...Sérgio Sacani
A large sample of long-period giant planets has been discovered thanks to long-term radial velocity surveys, but only a few
dozen of these planets have a precise radius measurement. Transiting gas giants are crucial targets for the study of atmospheric composition across a wide range of equilibrium temperatures and, more importantly, for shedding light on the formation and evolution
of planetary systems. Indeed, compared to hot Jupiters, the atmospheric properties and orbital parameters of cooler gas giants are
unaltered by intense stellar irradiation and tidal effects.
Aims. We aim to identify long-period planets in the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) data as single or duo-transit events.
Our goal is to solve the orbital periods of TESS duo-transit candidates with the use of additional space-based photometric observations
and to collect follow-up spectroscopic observations in order to confirm the planetary nature and measure the mass of the candidates.
Methods. We use the CHaracterising ExOPlanet Satellite (CHEOPS) to observe the highest-probability period aliases in order to discard or confirm a transit event at a given period. Once a period is confirmed, we jointly model the TESS and CHEOPS light curves
along with the radial velocity datasets to measure the orbital parameters of the system and obtain precise mass and radius measurements.
Results. We report the discovery of a long-period transiting Neptune-mass planet orbiting the G7-type star TOI-5678. Our spectroscopic analysis shows that TOI-5678 is a star with a solar metallicity. The TESS light curve of TOI-5678 presents two transit events
separated by almost two years. In addition, CHEOPS observed the target as part of its Guaranteed Time Observation program. After
four non-detections corresponding to possible periods, CHEOPS detected a transit event matching a unique period alias. Follow-up
radial velocity observations were carried out with the ground-based high-resolution spectrographs CORALIE and HARPS. Joint modeling reveals that TOI-5678 hosts a 47.73 day period planet, and we measure an orbital eccentricity consistent with zero at 2σ. The
planet TOI-5678 b has a mass of 20 ± 4 Earth masses (M⊕) and a radius of 4.91 ± 0.08 R⊕. Using interior structure modeling, we find
that TOI-5678 b is composed of a low-mass core surrounded by a large H/He layer with a mass of 3.2
+1.7
−1.3 M⊕.
Conclusions. TOI-5678 b is part of a growing sample of well-characterized transiting gas giants receiving moderate amounts of stellar
insolation (11 S ⊕). Precise density measurement gives us insight into their interior composition, and the objects orbiting bright stars
are suitable targets to study the atmospheric composition of cooler gas giants.
Automatic registration, integration and enhancement of india's chandrayaan 1 ...eSAT Journals
Abstract Chandrayaan-1 was India's first mission in deep space exploration to the moon. Its Terrain Mapping Camera (TMC) sent images of about 50% of total lunar surface in its limited lifetime and covered polar areas almost completely at a high resolution of 5m/pixel and 10m/pixel. This image dataset has been processed and put in public domain as individual strips of images categorized according to the orbits. The authors have already developed a Lunar GIS including a set of utilities like 3-D vision and exploration, crater detection and search using datasets from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Wide Angle Camera (WAC) which are of lower resolution than CH1. The objective of this paper is to normalize and register the Chandrayaan-1 images to existing processed data so that all these utilities can be transparently applied to high resolution Chandrayaan-1 datasets. Registration process consists of identification of features in source and target images and estimating appropriate correction for offset, rotation and scaling parameters. Furthermore, due to the low altitude orbit of satellite, the acquired images have displacement of pixels from actual nadir position, which need non-linear correction. This paper describes step by step technique to integrate these high and low resolution images in single framework. A candidate super-Earth planet orbiting near the snow line of Barnard’s starSérgio Sacani
Barnard’s star is a red dwarf, and has the largest proper motion
(apparent motion across the sky) of all known stars. At a distance
of 1.8 parsecs1
, it is the closest single star to the Sun; only the three
stars in the α Centauri system are closer. Barnard’s star is also
among the least magnetically active red dwarfs known2,3
and has
an estimated age older than the Solar System. Its properties make
it a prime target for planetary searches; various techniques with
different sensitivity limits have been used previously, including
radial-velocity imaging4–6
, astrometry7,8
and direct imaging9
, but all
ultimately led to negative or null results. Here we combine numerous
measurements from high-precision radial-velocity instruments,
revealing the presence of a low-amplitude periodic signal with a
period of 233 days. Independent photometric and spectroscopic
monitoring, as well as an analysis of instrumental systematic effects,
suggest that this signal is best explained as arising from a planetary
companion. The candidate planet around Barnard’s star is a cold
super-Earth, with a minimum mass of 3.2 times that of Earth,
orbiting near its snow line (the minimum distance from the star
at which volatile compounds could condense). The combination
of all radial-velocity datasets spanning 20 years of measurements
additionally reveals a long-term modulation that could arise from
a stellar magnetic-activity cycle or from a more distant planetary
object. Because of its proximity to the Sun, the candidate planet has a
maximum angular separation of 220 milliarcseconds from Barnard’s
star, making it an excellent target for direct imaging and astrometric
observations in the future.
Reference Guide To The International Space StationSérgio Sacani
The International Space Station is a unique place – a convergence of science, technology and human innovation that demonstrates new technologies and makes research breakthroughs not possible on Earth.
It is a microgravity laboratory in which an international crew of six people live and work while traveling at a speed of five miles per second, orbiting Earth every 90 minutes.
The space station has been continuously occupied since November 2000. In that time, more than 200 people from 15 countries have visited.
Crew members spend about 35 hours each week conducting research in many disciplines to advance scientific knowledge in Earth, space, physical, and biological sciences for the benefit of people living on our home planet.
The station facilitates the growth of a robust commercial market in low-Earth orbit, operating as a national laboratory for scientific research and facilitating the development of U.S. commercial cargo and commercial crew space transportation capabilities.
More than an acre of solar arrays provide power to the station, and also make it the next brightest object in the night sky after the moon. You don’t even need a telescope to see it zoom over your house. And we’ll even send you a text message or email alert to let you know when (and where) to look up, spot the station, and wave!
A Search for Technosignatures Around 11,680 Stars with the Green Bank Telesco...Sérgio Sacani
We conducted a search for narrowband radio signals over four observing sessions in 2020–2023 with
the L-band receiver (1.15–1.73 GHz) of the 100 m diameter Green Bank Telescope. We pointed the
telescope in the directions of 62 TESS Objects of Interest, capturing radio emissions from a total of
∼11,860 stars and planetary systems in the ∼9 arcminute beam of the telescope. All detections were
either automatically rejected or visually inspected and confirmed to be of anthropogenic nature. In
this work, we also quantified the end-to-end efficiency of radio SETI pipelines with a signal injection
and recovery analysis. The UCLA SETI pipeline recovers 94.0% of the injected signals over the usable
frequency range of the receiver and 98.7% of the injections when regions of dense RFI are excluded. In
another pipeline that uses incoherent sums of 51 consecutive spectra, the recovery rate is ∼15 times
smaller at ∼6%. The pipeline efficiency affects SETI search volume calculations as well as calculations
of upper bounds on the number of transmitting civilizations. We developed an improved Drake Figure
of Merit for SETI search volume calculations that includes the pipeline efficiency and frequency drift
rate coverage. Based on our observations, we found that there is a high probability (94.0–98.7%) that
fewer than ∼0.014% of stars earlier than M8 within 100 pc host a transmitter that is detectable in
our search (EIRP > 1012 W). Finally, we showed that the UCLA SETI pipeline natively detects the
signals detected with AI techniques by Ma et al. (2023).
Detection of an atmosphere around the super earth 55 cancri eSérgio Sacani
We report the analysis of two new spectroscopic observations of the super-Earth 55 Cancri e, in the near
infrared, obtained with the WFC3 camera onboard the HST. 55 Cancri e orbits so close to its parent
star, that temperatures much higher than 2000 K are expected on its surface. Given the brightness
of 55 Cancri, the observations were obtained in scanning mode, adopting a very long scanning length
and a very high scanning speed. We use our specialized pipeline to take into account systematics
introduced by these observational parameters when coupled with the geometrical distortions of the
instrument. We measure the transit depth per wavelength channel with an average relative uncertainty
of 22 ppm per visit and nd modulations that depart from a straight line model with a 6 condence
level. These results suggest that 55 Cancri e is surrounded by an atmosphere, which is probably
hydrogen-rich. Our fully Bayesian spectral retrieval code, T -REx, has identied HCN to be the
most likely molecular candidate able to explain the features at 1.42 and 1.54 m. While additional
spectroscopic observations in a broader wavelength range in the infrared will be needed to conrm
the HCN detection, we discuss here the implications of such result. Our chemical model, developed
with combustion specialists, indicates that relatively high mixing ratios of HCN may be caused by a
high C/O ratio. This result suggests this super-Earth is a carbon-rich environment even more exotic
than previously thought.

Signal Synchronization Strategies and Time Domain SETI with Gaia DR3Sérgio Sacani
Spatiotemporal techniques for signal coordination with actively transmitting extraterrestrial civilizations, without the need for prior communication, can constrain technosignature searches to a significantly smaller coordinate space. With the variable star
catalog from Gaia Data Release 3, we explore two related signaling strategies: the SETI
Ellipsoid, and that proposed by Seto, which are both based on the synchronization of
transmissions with a conspicuous astrophysical event. This dataset contains more than
10 million variable star candidates with light curves from the first three years of Gaia’s
operational phase, between 2014 and 2017. Using four different historical supernovae as
source events, we find that less than 0.01% of stars in the sample have crossing times,
the times at which we would expect to receive synchronized signals on Earth, within
the date range of available Gaia observations. For these stars, we present a framework
for technosignature analysis that searches for modulations in the variability parameters
by splitting the stellar light curve at the crossing time.

Cosmetic shop management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
Buying new cosmetic products is difficult. It can even be scary for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to skin trouble. The information needed to alleviate this problem is on the back of each product, but it's thought to interpret those ingredient lists unless you have a background in chemistry.
Instead of buying and hoping for the best, we can use data science to help us predict which products may be good fits for us. It includes various function programs to do the above mentioned tasks.
Data file handling has been effectively used in the program.
The automated cosmetic shop management system should deal with the automation of general workflow and administration process of the shop. The main processes of the system focus on customer's request where the system is able to search the most appropriate products and deliver it to the customers. It should help the employees to quickly identify the list of cosmetic product that have reached the minimum quantity and also keep a track of expired date for each cosmetic product. It should help the employees to find the rack number in which the product is placed. It is also Faster and more efficient way.
