Introduction of the new Alfresco Process Services platform by Michele Quadrino followed by the live demo by Piergiorgio Lucidi at Red Hat Open Source Day 2017 in Italy
To many people ITIL seems like the antithesis of Agile, with process-heavy, manual checks and approval gates a blocker to rapid delivery. However, at its core ITIL recommends iterative and continual improvement of software services based on the ‘Plan, Do, Check, Act’ (PDCA) cycle of Deming, an approach also central to DevOps. In this talk we’ll explore how – if implemented appropriately – ITIL and Agile can complement each other for a DevOps approach to iterative evolution of successful software systems.
From our talk at Unicom DevOps Summit on 26th March 2015 in London.
DevOps aims to reduce barriers between development and operations through collaboration and automation. It focuses on faster delivery of new features while maintaining a stable production environment. Operations are now involved earlier in the development process. ITIL and DevOps can work together, with ITIL providing best practices for processes and DevOps enabling continuous delivery through automation. The IT4IT standard complements ITIL by providing a data model and reference architecture to design, source, and manage IT services aligned with business objectives.
DevOps is a cultural and professional movement that stresses communication, collaboration and integration between software developers and IT operations professionals. It focuses on practices like continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment to accelerate the development and delivery of desired functionality and fixes. DevOps is not a replacement for frameworks like ITIL and COBIT but rather focuses on how work gets done. It promotes concepts like multi-disciplinary teams, automation, and measuring outcomes.
This document discusses DevOps vs ITIL and how their goals differ. DevOps focuses on resilience, mean time to recovery, pulling work, risk taking and flow, while ITIL emphasizes strength, mean time between failures, pushing work, safety and queuing work. It notes the business perspective is that IT moves too slowly, is unresponsive and projects are behind schedule. Release management is discussed as an ITIL process to help avoid introducing problems during new releases. The document advocates managing various lifecycles together to better deliver value and addresses relationships between processes and products.
What is DevOps? A lot of people think it means a lot of different things. We tend to think it has two complimentary aspects: culture and technology changes. Culture is what creates DevOps, technology enables it. Thanks, Kelly Goetsch, for the slide work.

Cloud, DevOps, agile development capability and adoption of containers are all important in both perception and reality.
Enterprise adoption of cloud computing, DevOps, agile development and containers are all growing, including production use.
Modernizing applications to SaaS & migrating them to the cloud are equally important as net-new, so-called ‘cloud-native’ applications.
Advantages and benefits of these technologies and methodologies center on: flexibility and speed, cost reduction, improvements in resiliency and reliability and fitness for new/emerging applications.
Barriers center on: lack of internal skills, immaturity, lack of familiarity, satisfaction with current technology, cost and security.
Most senior executives in large enterprises believe DevOps and CI/CD are interchangeable. If I have a CI/CD pipeline, I am “doing DevOps”, right? Not exactly. The dilemma that these executives have is that they don’t believe DevOps can be with the people they have. It can be done. I’ll show you how!

Slaying the Dragons of Agile, DevOps and ITSM Information FlowCA Technologies
This document summarizes a presentation about integrating Agile, DevOps and ITSM. It discusses how Agile development and DevOps have increased automation and speed of application delivery. It also discusses key ITSM processes like change management, release management and service configuration management. Finally, it argues that these can be integrated by viewing software and infrastructure as services and focusing on delivering customer value through services.
Doing DevOps well is really hard. And one of the reasons why doing DevOps well is so hard is because, as the survey sponsored by Google Cloud rightly points out: “Adopting DevOps is not a technology project. It requires changes to staffing, organization structure, performance management, and even culture”. It is easy to do a tool’s implementation and declare victory, but that won’t get organizations the benefit of DevOps -- developing and putting new software/applications into production, quickly.
In this webinar with Irfan Shariff, DASA Ambassador, you’ll learn about:
- Why DevOps
- How DevOps enables the delivery of business results
- Google ( Harvard Business Review) survey findings
- Why doing DevOps is hard
- Learning from doing Agile Software Development
- Doing DevOps right with DASA’s guidance
Organizational
- Individual and team level
Think that DevOps is just for product? Think again.

DevOps is the most heard buzzword at this moment and also the confusing one. For many people the term means automation or a new job role. The primary characteristic of DevOps culture is increased collaboration between the roles of development and operations. There are some important cultural shifts, within teams and at an organizational level that is required to support this collaboration. Even with the best tools, DevOps is just another buzzword if you don’t have the right culture. As an organization how can you adopt the culture required for DevOps? How to start with the new cultural transformation? Are you creating another silo for the team? Are you ready to embrace the change of mindset? In this talk I am going to focus on what are the changes you need to welcome DevOps culture to your organization and what sort of benefits you can extract by doing that. We will discuss the challenges and also the solutions for the problems.
The session will be suitable for everyone who want to start the DevOps journey as well as those who already started but want to validate if they are doing it right or wrong.

ITIL 4 has the potential to launch a massive shift in the evolution of IT service management. We're used to thinking in terms of a "service lifecycle", but ITIL v4 introduces a service value chain - where activities that create value can be started at any point, by anyone. Let our experts help you sort through the chaos of this intellectual shift. This webinar will give you the insights needed to move away from the linear lifecycle mentality to a more value-based approach within the ITIL 4 framework.
Most manifestations of DevOps contribute to faster, more reliable and cheaper development and delivery of IT-related services and products.
Significant additional benefits are to be gained by improvements outside the scope of current mainline DevOps thinking, in the identification and justification of investments and functionality. The key knowledge area that helps organizations achieve these additional benefits, is Business Value Optimization.
Join our 30-minute webinar with the author of the whitepaper our own DASA Ambassador Mark Smalley.

Versioning: It's more than just for software Perforce
Have you ever spent hours working on the wrong version of a document? Worse still, have you sent the wrong copy of a document to a client or the wrong specification to a supplier? What about opening up a PowerPoint presentation in a meeting, only to discover that you forgot to copy the updated version off of your desktop?
You're not alone. In a recent survey carried out by Harris Interactive, these are all common problems that impact 83% of all knowledge workers in today's electronic age. However, less common is the knowledge that these issues could easily be solved by something that software developers have been doing for years. Something called versioning.
These slides illustrate how version management, as a discipline, can be easily used and should be deployed as the norm outside of the development environment.

Even if we are doing software since tens of years, Digital has definitively change the pace of its delivery and lifecycle ! When you're working in a corporate with thousands of people doing software as software editors or service integrators on tens of technical ecosystems, it make sense to have a corporate vision and propose software factories that will enabled coherency of tools and practices to deliver quality, efficiency and productivity of the delivery, at scale. In this session, the core idea is to share our own true story from 0 to DevOps as a Service and Software Data-Driven Cockpit, to setup on the fly software factories in aaS mode and monitor the production effort. #JuCParis #JenkinsUserConference

Alfresco Summit 2014 - Crafter CMS - Case European BankPiergiorgio Lucidi
This document summarizes a case study of a European bank implementing a new web content management system using Crafter and Alfresco. The bank wanted to introduce a central WCM to replace different disconnected systems and allow custom content across websites and applications. Key aspects included unifying content, custom components and templates, integration with other systems, and good performance. The implemented high-level architecture included Alfresco and Crafter Studio for content management, Crafter Delivery nodes for publishing, and Solr/MongoDB for search and social features. The results were successful integration across systems, fast page loads, and refined content management capabilities.
As organisations store more and more information in their Alfresco content hubs, search and discovery of content becomes important. Alfresco comes bundled with Apache Lucene and Apache Solr for search. Although these provide full text capabilities, they do not have the scalability and functionality of the newer cloud scalable search software such as Apache Solr Cloud 4, Elastic Search and Amazon Cloud Search. Also, searching across multiple Alfresco instances including Alfresco Cloud is quite a challenge and any of the possible approaches are not good enough to be production ready.
This talk shows you how to index and search content stored in one or more Alfresco repositories, other CMIS repositories or file systems using either Apache Solr Cloud 4, Elastic Search or Amazon Cloud Search, while still ensuring the confidentiality of the documents based on the permissions configured in Alfresco or any other repositories.
The ECM world from the point of view of Alfresco - Linux Day 2013 - RomePiergiorgio Lucidi
The document discusses Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and the open source ECM system Alfresco. It defines ECM as a formal means of organizing and storing an organization's documents and content throughout the lifecycle. It explains that Alfresco uses a content repository that stores content and associated metadata in a node graph structure rather than a relational database. The presentation also demonstrates concepts in Alfresco like aspects, web scripts, spaces, and rules for executing actions.
The document provides an overview of Apache ManifoldCF, an open source content management system. It describes ManifoldCF's capabilities, including crawling repositories to index their contents and push those contents to search servers. It details the key components of ManifoldCF like the Pull Agent Daemon, jobs, connectors, and monitoring UI. The document also outlines ManifoldCF's history and major releases from its incubation at Apache to becoming a top-level project.
Hippo CMS is an open source Java content management system (CMS) built on Apache Jackrabbit. It has a content delivery application (CDA) based on Spring Framework that delivers content through templates, and a content management application (CMA) based on Wicket for content authoring. The CDA retrieves content from the repository and renders pages, while the CMA allows users to manage content, media, and configurations. Hippo also includes tools for logging, browsing the content repository, and managing authorizations and permissions.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
