Alcohol Abuse Essays
Writing an essay on the subject of alcohol abuse can be a challenging task for several reasons.
Firstly, the topic itself is multifaceted, encompassing various aspects such as the physiological
effects of alcohol on the body, the psychological factors contributing to alcohol addiction, the
social implications of alcohol abuse, and the measures for prevention and treatment. Narrowing
down this broad topic to a specific thesis statement requires thorough research and critical
thinking.
Additionally, alcohol abuse is a sensitive and often stigmatized issue, which may require a
delicate approach to avoid perpetuating stereotypes or offending individuals who have struggled
with alcohol addiction. Balancing empathy and objectivity in discussing the topic is crucial to
maintain the integrity of the essay.
Furthermore, compiling relevant and up-to-date information from credible sources can be time-
consuming, especially considering the constantly evolving nature of research on alcohol abuse
and addiction. Analyzing and synthesizing this information into a coherent argument requires
strong analytical skills and the ability to discern reliable sources from misinformation.
Moreover, discussing alcohol abuse in an essay may evoke personal emotions or experiences for
the writer, especially if they have been directly affected by alcohol addiction or know someone
who has. Managing these emotions while maintaining a professional tone in the writing can be
challenging.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of alcohol abuse demands thorough research,
sensitivity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence. Despite the challenges, addressing this
important issue in a comprehensive and informed manner is essential for raising awareness and
promoting positive change.

Which later cause the smoker to lose the ability to cope with stress. They believe that
smoking will help with their stress rather than deal with the stress in healthy and
productive ways. Referring to addendum 1, 30% of the participants state that they
began smoking because of stress.
c.Nicotine and Anxiety
The relationship between nicotine and anxiety is similar to that of nicotine and stress.
Both relationships have withdrawal symptoms that occur hours after the last
cigarette. Smoking decreases the functioning of lungs and can result in the worsening
of anxiety. Due the lungs not functioning correctly them smoker may breathe faster
than what is considered normal.
This is to compensate for the lack of oxygen in the brain, which may lead to
hyperventilation. Hyperventilation is a trigger for panic attacks. The signs are rapid
heartbeat, chest pain, light headedness, and shortness of breath that creates the
feelings of anxiety that may result in the development of panic disorders.
4.Theories behind smoking
a.Arousal theory
Arousal theory can best describe the reason why people smoke because they need
to reach their optimal level of arousal in order to perform effectively, some people
may be sensation seekers and smoking is the only way in which they can fulfil
their needs (Mausner Platt, 1971). The first two levels in Maslow s hierarchy of
needs play a role in why teenagers smoke; this plays a factor when it comes to group
dynamics this is where groupthink then comes
Conflict In Fraternities And Sororities
Fraternities and Sororities have around 760,000 undergraduate members that will be
entering the workforce. Those members are apart of organizations that boast about
their standards, values, and professional development skills. While in the process of
discovering those, conflict occurs within and students have to address and solve those
issues. By identifying how members of primary, intimate, task groups, function
during conflict, I can, with their help, make conclusions and provide solutions for
individuals that learned those skills in fraternities and sororities. This data could help
predict behavior patterns of alumni within task groups at their place of work or
within their membership of other social groups. The findings will also help these...

I will then contact the participating organizations, chapters and nationals, to ask if
they want me to come and debrief the results with them. That is important because
some of the results might need explaining because this was a qualitative study and it
is not as direct as a quantitative study. I will then reach out, with those organizations
as references, to other chapters that initially declined to see if they are interested.
Subsequently, I will check in on the chapters, not to study them further, but to see if
they used any of the information gathered to change dynamics or group behavior.
This research raises additional questions such as: if these members stay (even during
conflict), then why do others leave their organizations; Is this conflict personal or
based on structural and procedural actions within the fraternities and sororities; and
do organization s national programming create certain group behaviors in fraternities
and sororities that influence

Venezuela has a storied history. During 1522, Venezuela was colonized by the
Spanish. Than later in 1811, Venezuela was included as a department of the federal
republic of Gran Columbia. Than in 1830, Venezuela became a free country. During
the 1900 s, Venezuela dealt with government turmoil, being dominated by military
strongmen until the mid 20th century. Some of Venezuelas geographical features

Desert Southwest
In the Desert Southwest, we are blessed with two different blooming seasons, spring
and fall. Roses don t really enjoy the heat of summer and go into summer dormancy,
meaning that they just exist and don t grow or bloom significantly. However, with
the days growing shorter and summer temperatures begin to cool, it is time to lightly
prune your rosebushes, which will stimulate new growth. In September, begin by
pruningback about 1/4 of the total size of the rose bush, (this isn t the major
pruning that occurs in the winter). As always, prune back to an outward facing bud
at an angle of 45 degrees. Seal any pruning cuts larger than the diameter of a pencil
with Elmer s glue to prevent borers. It is also time to fertilize your roses in preparation

Keeping a hummingbird feeder is a good idea, but there are other things you need to
do to keep the little birds happy and humming in your garden. Hummingbirds, unlike
most other animals, do not find their food source based on smell. Because of this,
brightly colored plants and feeders are what attract the tiny creatures to your garden.
Red is the best color to attract them. Keeping a clean, full feeder provides
hummingbirds with the energy they need to keep flying around your garden and to
other stops on their feeding route. The sugar water solution, however, is not their
main food source. Hummingbirds actually get the nutrients and proteins they need for
survival from soft bodied spiders and tiny insects on the plants in your garden. Their
outrageous metabolisms burn up calories so quickly, they need the sugar and flower
nectars to keep them energized so they can hunt. The traditional sugar/water solution
calls for one part sugar to four parts water. Do not boil the water to make syrup. Just
mix it in room temperature water. Some gardeners have experimented with solutions
that have a higher concentration of sugar to water. There is no research to show that
high concentrated solutions of sugar harms the hummingbirds. Their metabolism
operates so much differently than most animals. A higher concentration of solution
just means they can drink less often to get the energy they need to hunt. It

For this reason, the NCLB act provides a safe harbor provision. This provision states
that as long as schools are showing progress, they will not be considered failing.
Failing would be if there was no academic progress by any group of students in which

seemed to be a promising act with more highly qualified teachers and accountability,

Arguments in favor of The goal of the NCLB act is one that almost everyone was
in favor of when it was proposed. In politics of the No Child Left Behind Act, Hess
and Petrilli state the bipartism support for the act. He gives the statistics of the
acceptance. They State that The U.S. Senate supported the new law 87 10 and the
House of Representative endorsed it 381 41. Republics supported the new law 44

NCLB act have a reason to be so. They are in favor of it because of the
improvements in the test scores that have been seen nationally, the improvements that
have been made to the schools now versus when they were ran only by local
authorities. Those in favor agree with the idea of increased accountability and that

information to survive as a soldier. They will teach me weapons operations and
maintenance, vehicle operation and maintenance, land reconnaissance, and much
more. Starting out at Fort Benning as an infantryman ill be shown how to use

Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning Research Paper
Paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) is caused by the consumption of the water soluble
alkaloid neurotoxin known as saxitoxin from shellfish (mussels, clams, cockles,
oysters and scallops) from waters contaminated by Algal blooms. The algal bloom
that forms in the water has a fluorescent greenish hue and contains dinoflagellates that
produces these neurotoxins and is found in both the temperate and tropical areas.
Along with medications, the symptoms of may PSP resolve with the excretion of the
toxin. Patients are treated by providing them with respiratory support and fluid
therapy. PSP is confirmed by the urine test of the affected individual to check for
saxitoxin by high performance liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy. Although

The Dangers Of Youth Sports For Young People
Youth sports is well know if you got a younger kid or teenager that like sports or

Word To Boast By Greek Language Analysis
I chose the word to save here because it fits the context well, and salvation is best
represented by this English word. To be made does not fit the context, and to be
healed does not encompass the full extent of what Christ is doing to us, which is
saving us from deserved eternal torment. Defining this word as to save is the best
definition because it fully encompasses the salvation that Christ gives to people,
while also correctly aligning itself to the intended meaning for the Ephesian audience.

When you talk to the laity, you must understand that they are not going to understand
very much Greek (if any at all), so it is rarely fruitful to bring in any Greek
terminology except for the Greek word itself. For example, if I tell my audience that
the Greek word ПѓОµПѓбїіПѓОјООЅОїО№ is a Perfect Participle Passive verb,
some of them might think I am speaking in tongues. It is important to actually
communicate with the audience, so in my application of the text, I would
emphasize how salvation itself is a gift of God, as this is an important point that
Paul makes. I would also tell them about how they are continually in the process of
being saved, and show them from my own study, in an understandable way, how
Christians continually work out their salvation. I would assure my congregation
that their salvation is secure in Christ, while also affirming the meaning of Paul s
words in a way that kindles their love for Christ. This text is ready made for the
pulpit, and I feel this study has properly equipped me for my future ministry so that I
can comprehend Paul s original
Jack Welch and the GE Way Essay
Jack Welch and the GE Way
When Jack Welch was named CEO of General Electric, Welch saw a company in
trouble even though the business world saw GE as an intrinsically healthy
corporation, secure in its position as a world industrial leader. Welch knew that the
company was too large to fail yet GE was too unwieldy to adapt for further growth.
The changes he instituted restructured and revolutionized GE and made Welchthe
most respected CEO in business today. After reading the book there were three parts
that really stood out for me.
Chapter 3: Cultivate managers who share your vision was the most important chapter
to me. It talks about putting the right managers in the right positions. Welch says,

They are to be nurtured in the hope that might improve. Type C managers were to
be fired. They were defined as blah and neutral who are afraid of A s and they do not
know they are C s.
In that past restaurant I worked at we used the A, B, C system not only for
managers but for all staff as well. Everyone thought it was a bad idea at first but
after two months they thought it was useful. We had an unbelievable staff after the
system was in place. I have worked with A, B, and C managers and it can make the
workplace frustrating if you do not have the right people in the right places.
The second most important chapter to me was Chapter 5: Be simple, be consistent
and hammer your message home. This chapter talks about consistency can help get
your message across to many people. The only was to change people s minds is
with consistency, (p. 51) states Welch who believes in relentless consistency in
everything. Since GE s values are so important to Welch, he had them inscribed and
distributed to every single GE employee. He states:

War Of The Roses Research Paper
The War of the Roses was a civil war between the House of York and the House of
Lancaster. This civil war impacted the whole country of England from the rule of
that the English government had over England and the affects in religion that
occurred. The War of the Roses had a huge impact on how England would continue
to operate, in fact its ending marked the beginning of the English reformation. This
essay will argue how The War of the Roses can be looked at as being significant
primarily for its aftermath that not only caused a change in government and
changes in religion, but altered the way England would operate by bringing an end
to the middle ages. Before the impact the War of the Roses had is talked about, the
history of why it began and what occurred must be discussed to understand the
change it brought about. The War of the Roses was a war of several different battles
between the House of York and the House of Lancaster which were the two major

Education is referred as the profusion of knowledge that is acquired by an individual
when or after studying specific subject matters or having an experience in life lessons
that provides and understanding of a certain concept. It requires instructions from
composed literature or an individual. Most familiar forms of educationresult from
several years of schooling that integrates studies of various subjects. Education
provides learners with knowledge about the globe. It enables the learners to acquire
good career. It assists in building character of individuals. Education leads to
enlightenment and lays a firm foundation of a strong country. It makes a human
being to be complete. Philosophers urge that the fact that education enriches the
individual s understanding of themselves; it is also an investment and can have a
huge impact on a nation s development and growth (Jackson , 2012). This paper in a
wider view will analyze the concept of education following Paulo FreirePedagogy of
the Oppressed, Joel Spring and Jane Martin s The Educated Person perspectives. It
will analyze the purpose of education according to these three sources.
Pedagogy of the Oppressed remains to be the widely known work of Paulo Freire.
The books analyze the struggle for equity and justice within the educational system
and it proposes a new pedagogy. In regard to education, Paulo Freire argues that

what a DNR is. They know that this means once a person experiences a cardiac and
/or respiratory arrest, they are not to be resuscitated. In a policy from IU Health
North Hospital (2016), the following treatments are to be withheld in the case of a
respiratory and/or cardiac arrestwhen the patient has a signed DNR: chest
compressions, start of ventilation support, endotracheal intubation, electrical
countershock, cardiac pacing externally, and/or bolus administration containing
antiarrhythmic, vasopressors, or inotropes. There is an exceptions section to the
policy that states that DNR orders are generally suspended in anesthetizing locations
(IU Health North Hospital, 2016, p. 4). It is noted that any existing directives need to
be discussed with the patient when possible. It is important to view all aspects to
this ethical issue to be able to see the entire picture of it. This includes looking at
what is currently done, the opinions of patients and physicians, along with looking at
policies from the American Society of Anesthesiologists along with the American
College of Surgeons. In the past, up until the 1990s, DNR orders have always been
suspended during surgeryand immediately after (Kalkman, Hooft, Meijerman, Knape,
van Delden, 2016). If the Joint Commission accredits a hospital, then the hospital
must have a policy set in place for DNR situations (Sumrall, Mahanna, Sabharwal,
Reflective Essay On Art
The day was December 30th it was a chilly day when a young artist named Betty
Edwards walked into her first class on art. I was walking alone a week prior after
meeting up with some of my students that I tutor when I got a call from my old art
professor. I took me back to when I started learning the wonder and culture behind
art. After taking his course for half a year I gave up on art my levels of motivation
dropped and I felt like I just couldn t do it. During our talk he recommended to a
small coffee shop that offered art lessons for all levels of artist. Today December 30th
the day before New Year s Eve was my first course at the coffee shop almost in the
smack center of nowhere of New York. Every time the door would open you could
hear the cars simultaneously rush by even if we were in an alleyway. In all their
were a total of 20 students who registered for the art lessons only 19 showed up.
Some of them beginners some of them looked like their art was meant for a gallery.
We all brought one thing to represent us and our art I brought an unbelievably small
cat drawingthat looked horrendous compared to the other artists. The instructor
walked in and handed out construction paper and a pencil. Little did I know this
would relate to our lesson. The 20th student walked in late with no representation of
his art he came in with a notebook and himself. His name was Sam and he was my
artnet for the next four weeks. We started our lessons the instructors first words where
Australopithecus Africanus Research Paper
Australopithecus africanus is a species of human like and ape like animal. The
Australopithecus africanus lived primarily in Southern Africa. A man by the name
of Raymond dart set out to find one and he did. It was half ape and half human, and
the skull of a child in Johannesburg, South Africa says Brain. Dart chipped and
chipped away at the rock containing the skull until eventually he was able to make
out the child s face. The child had a full set of milk teeth and also its permanent
molars in place.
Dart suggested that the skull, teeth, and jaw were closer to that of a humanoid. A
humanoid is something else that has the appearance of a human being. He also noted
that the spinal cord was connected to the brain which means that it
Essay on Repairing Spinal Cord Injuries
Injuries can happen to anyone, anywhere. Injuries affect people s lives as they limit
their choices, temporarily or permanently. Most injuries are not preventable, because
most happen unexpectedly. For example, spinal cord injuries can occur if a person
falls abruptly on his/her back and shatters their spinal cord. Although injuries cannot
be prevented, they can be healed. New technologies are under development to solve
major injuries, which do not yet have a cure. One of these major injuries is a spinal
cord injury.
The human body consists of many important systems. The nervous system is one of
these that ensure survival of a person. The nervous system is split into two main
parts. The spinal cord and the brain make up the Central ... Show more content on

This results in either a loss of sensation, or a loss of perception. According to the
Rick Hansen Spinal Cord Injury Registry, vehicle accidents make up 46% of spinal
cord injuries. Acts of violence (from knife wounds or gun shots) make up 11% of
spinal cord injuries. Falls and sports injuries make up 24%, industrial accidents
(damages from chemicals) make up 5%, and other injuries (such as inflammation of
the spinal cord) make up 14% of spinal cord injuries. The survival rate is reasonably
high for those suffering from spinal cord injuries, but life will never be normal again.
Since the connection between the brain and the receptor or effector is damaged,
stimulations may not be interpreted or signals may not reach the effector. This might
result in loss of balance, coordination, loss of sensation, uncontrolled movements, and
paralysis.
It is important to note that nerves in the CNS do not regenerate, while nerves in the
PNS do regenerate. This is why when a person gets a cut; it completely heals in
several days. But a person with spinal cord injury cannot completely heal because
spinal cord does not contain neurilemma, a membrane that promotes regeneration of
neurons. It was thought that the neurons would not regenerate once damaged.
However, research has found that they do indeed have the ability to regenerate if
scars do not obstruct the regenerative process. Scars are the result of astrocytes and
Taking a Look at the Internet of Things (IoT)
1. INTRODUCTION
Recently, the concept of the Internet as a set of connected computer devices is
changed to a set of connected surrounding things of human s living space, such as
home appliances, machines, transportation, business storage, and goods etc. The
number of things in the living space is larger than the number of world population.
Research is going on how to make these things to communicate with each other like
computer devices communicate through Internet. The communication among these
things is referred as Internet of Things (IoT). Till now, there is no specific definition
or standard architecture of IoT. Some researchers define the IoT as a new model that
contains all of wireless communication technologies such as wireless sensor networks,
mobile networks, and actuators. Each element of IoT is called a thing and should
have a unique address. Things communicate using the Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID) technology and work in harmony to reach a common goal. In addition, the
IoT should contain a strategy to determine its users and their privileges and
restrictions.
Smart connectivity with existing networks and context aware computation using
network resources is an indispensable part of IoT. With the growing presence of WiFi
and 4G LTE wireless Inter net access, the evolution towards ubiquitous information
and communication networks is already evident. However, for the Internet of Things
vision to successfully emerge, the computing paradigm will need to go
The Importance Of A Bilingual Advantage For Terms Of...
Bialystok, Craik, and Luk (2012) investigated the growing body of evidence
examining the presence of a bilingual advantage in terms of enhanced executive
control: the group of cognitive skills involved in language switching, working
memory and inhibition. Furthermore, the researchers examined evidence supporting
the notion that differences in brainstructure and function helped to explain the
bilingual advantage (Bialystok et al., 2012). In regards to joint activation in
bilinguals, researchers found that both languages are always activated to some degree
(Bialystok et al., 2012) Though this may cause language interference errors,
bilinguals can select their target language with remarkable accuracy (Bialystok et al.,
2012). Upon review of the literature, they found that bilinguals frequently utilized
frontal systems (involved in executive control) to help manage attention to two
language systems (Bialystok et al., 2012). In other words, whenever a bilingual said
something, the executive control system was activated. To support this claim, fMRI
research revealed that the activities in the frontal regions form neural networks in the
brain that are unique to the bilingual s experience of managing two independent
language systems (Bialystok et al., 2012. In essence, the evidence supported the
notion that bilinguals exercise the executive control system when they have to say
something and, this over time, leads to modifications in the neural networks and
anatomical structures of
The Pros And Cons Of Hydroelectric Power
We have chosen to do Hydroelectric power for our renewable resource. This is a great
renewable resource because we were given the region tidewater. Tidewater has a
large abundance of water and that made Hydropower a perfect choice. We have
many reasons for our choice. Here you can learn all about what Hydropoweris and
how it works. Also our reasons behind choosing it, the price, the pros and cons, and
so much more! Enjoy! Hydropower works by a generator turned by a turbine. A dam
raises the water level so the water can descend making the turbine turn from the
power of the falling water. When the turbine is turned it produces electrical energy.
The reservoir that is formed stores water. Transmission lines carries the electricity
from the hydropower plant to cities, business and homes. Hydro Energy is stored
by water flowing through a dam and having energy stay in it s area of generators.
Its energy is released by generators turning and making electrical shock waves to
create power. This resource produces about .85 cents per kilowatt hour. For this it
depends on how big the power plant is and how many generators you ll need.
Renewable energyis a hot topic these days. With the ever growing increase in
population, demand of energy is also increasing everyday. Non renewable sources are
limited, not environment friendly and increase or decrease in production of these
sources can have direct result on the inflation. Renewable sources, on the

Affirmative Action Is Necessary Analysis
America is said to be like a melting pot, a diverse land of people with all sorts of
different cultures and backgrounds. But, how truly diverse is America? How
diverse are our schools and our workplaces? Why Affirmative Action Is Necessary
was published in 2015 to EBSCO by Anne Stokely. Stokely s argument is in favor of
affirmative actionbecause she believes it allows everyone to compete freely in the
marketplace. Affirmative action continues to be a controversial idea in our society
today.
The issue at hand is if affirmative action is necessary. Does America need it? Is it
fair? Is it actually helping minorities get ahead? Is affirmative action causing reverse
discrimination? The targeted audience seems to be major corporations and education
administrators. The main point of their thesis is affirmative action helps minority
groups gain access to education and jobs that they would not usually have access to.
The purpose of this article is to inform their audience why affirmative action is a
necessary policy to have.

Anabolic Steriods
Anabolic Steroids are synthetic compounds formulated to be like the male sex
hormone testosterone. Many athletes use anabolic steroids male and female alike,
such as body builders, weightlifters, baseball players, football players, swimmers, and
runners. They do so because they mistakenly believe that they will gain strength and
size. In a male, testosterone is released by the leydig cells in the testes. ... Show more

Even though there not supposed to some of the masculinizing effects of testosterone
still show on users of anabolic steroid. People who use them sometimes develop
acne, depend voice, abnormal hair growth. Some of these side effects can not be
reversed. The most severe effect of anabolic steroids is on the liver they call it
peliosis hepatis or blood filled cysts in the liver. If the cysts rupture they can cause
liver failure which can kill a person. After stopping the use of steroids though these
cysts may become smaller and disappear. Steroids can also cause cancerous tumors
in the liver that can also kill and disappear if the drugs are not used anymore.
Steroids are also increasing the risk of getting gallstones. Use of steroids also
effects your cardiovascular system. There are two kinds of cholesterol in your
body high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) and low density lipoprotein
cholesterol. HDL is good for the body but LDL is very hazardous to your health.
Using steroids lowers the number of HDL in the body in most of the users. The
lowering of the amount of HDL in the body puts the person at a higher risk of
developing high blood pressure and blood clotting problems. Some of the physicians
also think that steroids also cause abnormal fat deposits in the body and change the
way the body processes carbohydrates. Men who use steroids also can develop serious
Why Did The Us Win The Battle Of Midway
The Battle of Midway raged in 1942 from June 3 through June 7. At the time, the
Americans were losing the war against the Japanese. All hope seemed to be lost,
until the United States won the battle, much to the surprise of the Japanese. Without
America winning the battle, The Japanese would have occupied Hawaii, which
would have given them a base between North America and Asia, and the Japanese
would start their island hopping campaign. The Americans won the battle of
Midway thanks to the U.S. intelligence deciphering codes from the Japanese, the
failure of Japan not winning the Battle of the Coral Sea, and the failure of Japanese
to destroy the fuel storage facilities at Pearl Harbor. Winning the battle, not only led
to winning the war, but it also gave American soldiers a sense of hope and and gave a

The Battle of the Coral Sea happened a month before the Battle of Midway. The
Battle of the Coral Sea was the first naval battle fought entirely by carrier aircraft.
The Japanese s goal was to capture Port Moresby in New Guinea and Tulagi. Once
this happened, at Port Moresby, the Imperial Navy could have executed their
Operation FS, which would allow them the occupation of Fiji and Samoa and
critically hurt Australia. But the Japanese could not succeed in their plan, because the
Americans had learned of it through code deciphering. With learning of the Japanese
s plans, the Americans sent two aircraft carriers, Lexington and Yorktown, to prevent
the Operation FS. The Japanese had lost one aircraft carrier and two were critically
damaged. The United States had lost Lexington, while Yorktown was critically
damaged. The Japanese had assumed that Yorktown had sunk, but it was quickly
repaired after learning that the Japanese were going to attack Pearl Harbor. The
Japanese had suffered heavy losses at the Battle of the Coral Sea, which in turn
resulted in their
Analogue Studies Do Not Aid Depression Knowledge
The use of distressed college students as analogues for depression research,
however, is not sufficient in meaningfully advancing our current knowledge of
depression and its treatment. Due to ease of access and convenience, the excessive
reliance on this sample has made some researchers neglect crucial and noteworthy
differences. This paper will address these critical differences including severity and
symptomatology, issues of generalizability and problems with the psychometrics.
Lastly, this paper will illustrate how research of college students as analogue samples
does not need to be discontinued; rather, several suggestions to improve this research
will be explored. Currently, there are two views in the literature regarding depression:
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This difference, however, is not found in the Beck Depression Inventory scores with
students (Coyne, 1994). Goodman and Koenig (1992) attribute this finding to
female college students having greater social support, less negative life events, and
being exposed to a more egalitarian environment. Also, it has been established that
minorities are underrepresented in college populations, and the minority students
that are included in the samples do not accurately reflect the minority groups in the
general population (Coyne, 1994). These significant differences in demographic
factors indicate problems with generalizability. In addition to demographic factors,
differences in symptomatology between distress and depression create problems
when using college students as an analogue sample. A primary symptom of
depression is anhedonia or marked loss of interest or pleasure in almost all
activities (Coyne, 1994). However, when symptoms between college students and
clinically depressed individuals were examined, it was found that the most
significant difference in symptomatology between the two groups was for
anhedonia, in which the college sample reported significantly lower levels (Cox,
Enns, Borger, amp; Parker, 1999). This is a cause for concern, especially in regards
to treatment development. Researchers could expend great resources developing a
treatment based on an analogue sample such as college students, only to discover it is

American Imperialism In The Early 20th Century
In 1904 at the St. Louis World s Fair there was an exhibit funded by the US
Government to show Americans what life was like in the Philippine colonies.
Unfortunate this exhibition was not accurate representation of people s lives in the
Philippines. They were portrayed as being uncivilized and practitioners of non God
fearing religions, even though many Philippine people converted Roman Catholicism
under Spanish rule. The Government conveyed a distorted representation of the
Philippines to convince Americans that the colonization of the Philippines was not
just for the United Statesbenefit but for the improvement and civilization of the
population of the Philippines.
While there are many reasons behind the United States imperialist endeavors in the
early 20th century, the main justifications were wealth, religion, recognition, and
science. Before the 20th century Americans business believed Americas, economy
could survive while being self sufficient and did not require any international
interaction. But after facing multiple economic depressions in the late 1th century
they came to the realization that interaction in the world s economy could benefit
them economically. After they came to this realization they turned to the United
States government to protect their economic interests abroad, even going as far to use
military force if necessary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Police Power In Achieving Justice In The Law

The criminal justice system is effective in achieving justice, in relations to police
power and authority. Police are tasked with an essential role in protecting and
enforcing the law. They are a critical aspect towards the criminal justice system and
the criminal investigation process. To assist their role to the community, they ve
been provided several types of powers and authorities to achieve their duties towards
the community. These authorised powers are used to stop, search and detain a person
when they re certain a crimeis committed. Consequently, policecan use this authority
to potentially violate another individuals right, such as privacy. Whilst this power

Analysis Of The Thing In The Forest By A. S. Byatt
First off we have The Thing in the Forest by A.S. Byatt, the author used many
components for a short story to make a cynical tale that creates an incredible
sensation of curiosity from the reader. In this story we have two girls who form a
friendship in this time of war as they are being evacuated from war zones. These two
protagonist are allowed access to the world with only a curfew, where shortly after
these two adventures set afoot in a mysterious forest do they encounter the Thing, a
creature that could only be created from the darkest depths of the sub conscience that
will haunt these girls till the end of all days. Byatt shows the darkness of war with
the journey of these girl y using very in depth imagery, historical/war setting, and
character development.
This story gives its audience incredible imagery, and allusions. Which are good for
the very fairytale feel of the story. It starts off with a train full of children, none of
which no where they are going. Soon after they make it and are released we
encounter a new character named Alys. I found she had a larger part of the story
than the amount of text dedicated. She resembled innocence. Now that she was there
we have a theme of losing innocence in the story. The forest with the Thing inside
represents the time of war and destructiveness it ring in the lives that happen on it.
They gave a little bit of insight on the movement of it by stating, They give the
strange impression of moving in in waves from

Iago in Shakespeare s Othello Essay
Iago in Othello
In William Shakespeare s tragic drama Othello we see a morally depraved character,
perhaps a very mentally sick individual, named Iago. His personality and
development during the play is the subject of this essay.
In Shakespeare s Four Giants Blanche Coles comments on the mental illness that
appears to afflict the despicable Iago:
When such old time critics as H. N. Hudson, who wrote nearly a hundred years ago,
saw that Iago was not acting from revenge, one is more than surprised to find
modern critics, who have had the advantage of the progress that has been made in the
study of abnormal psychology, accepting Iago for anything but what he is, and what
Shakespeare intended him to be a psychopathic ... Show more content on

While he and Desdemona and Emilia are lounging about at the port in Cyprus
awaiting the arrival of the Moor s ship, Desdemona tries to analyze how his mind
and feelings work, for he seems to be habitually critical of his wife. She concludes
that he is a slanderer and that he is full of old fond paradoxes to make fools laugh in
th alehouse.
His clever machinations cause grief for every character who has continued contact
with him. He deceives Roderigo about the affections of Desdemona: Desdemona is
directly in love with him [Cassio]. He deceptively lures Cassio into drunkenness
where he is vulnerable to taunts and thus loses his officership. He further lures him
into Desdemona s presence so that Othello can find him there and be more
suspicious: Was not that Cassio parted from my wife? . Iago misinforms Montano
regarding Cassio ( And tis great pity that the noble Moor / Should hazard such a
place as his own second / With one of an ingraft infirmity. ) Iago uses Emilia to
pass the kerchief, which so often you did bid me steal, to him rather than to its
owner. He manipulates the Moor into incorrect views about Desdemona, about Iago
himself ( Iago is most honest. ), about Cassio s relationship with Desdemona, etc.
Iago even diverts suspicion of the ambush against Cassio against his prostitute friend
Bianca. In cold blood he eventually murders his gift giver, Roderigo, so that the
wealthy playboy can t discover that Iago has been
September 11th Attack Case Study
The perception of the intelligence community prior to the September 11th attacks was
basically there was virtually no homeland security intelligence , per se. The
intelligence arena almost solely focused on activity outside the United States in an
effort to keep terrorism from entering the borders. The intelligence and collection that
was conducted inside the borders was done from a criminal aspect. This was executed
by law enforcement agencies in an effort to keep criminals off the streets. The
problem with this was there was no focus on terrorism or counterterrorism at this
time. During this time, there was no communication between the actual intelligence
agencies and any law enforcement agencies. There was a number of reasons that
these types of agencies did not share the information they obtained. However, these
reasons hindered the information that needed to be put out that enabled others to
execute their jobs correctly. Some have contended that this lack of information
sharing placed barriers to gathering all the information to uncover plots (Best, 2003).

The deficiency the intelligence community was experiencing in this case was
insight. This idea is created from failing to envision a reoccurrence of like events
seen in other locations around the world could actually happen here (Kamien,
Chertoff, 2012). No one in our government nor in security thought about an aircraft
of this size being purposely flew into the Twin Towers. Security and emergency
professionals were a little more understanding of the fact that an attack could
happen from below. The events that unfolded in 1993 gave personnel an advantage
over this type on an attack. However, the idea that a radial attack from the air would
or could be a reality to kill thousands of people and ultimately brings the towers to the
ground was not generally

The Repeated Failure of the League of Nations in Keeping Peace
The League of Nations repeatedly failed in keeping the peace because, first of all
Hitler went against the Treaty of Versailles and started World War 2 yet the League
of Nations failed to react. The Treaty of Versailles also failed because Mussolini in
Abyssinia went against the league and Manchuria also contributed towards the
failure to keep the peace. The structure of the league didnГ‚ t help as the council
only met once a year. The power of the league was very weak as there was no
military force. Finally the lack of strong nations joining the league contributed to the
failure of the League of Nations.

The League of Nations also failed because Mussolini, a dictator from Italy, prepared
to invade Abyssinia. Abyssinia then asked the League for help; while the League of
Nations talked to Mussolini he used the time to send an army into Africa. The
League of Nations then suggested giving Abyssinia to Italy. Mussolini ignored the
League of Nations and invaded Abyssinia. In secret however Britain and France
agreed to give Abyssinia to Italy, the Hoare Laval Pact.
Manchuria became a factor or the failure of the League of Nations in 1932 when
the Japanese army invaded Manchuria and threw out the Chinese residents. They
then set up their own government called the Г‚ ManchoukuoГ‚ . When china asked
the League of Nations for help it sent a group of officials led by Lord Lytton to
study the problem, this however took a year, but in February 1933 they ordered
Japan to leave Manchuria.
However Japan refused to leave Manchuria and instead left the League of Nations.
As many countries had important trading links with Japan the League of Nations
couldnГ‚ t agree on sanctions or even ban weapon sales. Britain and France didnГ‚ t
want a war therefore nothing was done. This showed the League of Nations as weak
and powerless therefore adding to the failures and breakdown of the League of
Nations.
The way the League of Nations was
Chronic Myeloid Leukaemi Symptoms And Treatment
Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia
Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia is a hematopoietic proliferative disorder associated
with a specific defect in the gene (Ciesla 2007, pp. 189). The gene defect is caused
due to the translocation of the genetic material between chromosome 9 and
chromosome 22 (t9: 22). The translocation prompts to the development of a hybrid
gene BCR ALB in the Philadelphia chromosome, or Ph1. Therefore, this fusion gene
mutation affects the maturation and differentiation of the haematopoietic cells
(Ciesla 2007, pp. 189). However the introduction of a BCR ALB particular tyrosine
kinase inhibitor, Imatinib has significantly enhanced the survival rate of the patient
with chronic myeloid leukaemia (Hochhaus, et al.2015). This essay will briefly
describe the diagnosis, treatment and future strategies for chronic myeloid leukaemia.
Diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukaemia in most cases is done on the basis of
differential blood count characterised by excess granulocytes (neutrophil, eosinophil
and basophil) with typical left shift of granulopoesis (Hehlmann et al.2007).
Conformation of CML can be done by identifying if there is a presence of Ph
chromosome or BCR ALB transcript in the peripheral blood or the bone marrow cells
(Hehlmann et al.2007). However, if Ph chromosome is not detected conformation
can also be done by either reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or
fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) (Hehlmann et al.2007). Fig 1: Above figure

Alcohol Abuse Essays.pdf

  • 1. Alcohol Abuse Essays Writing an essay on the subject of alcohol abuse can be a challenging task for several reasons. Firstly, the topic itself is multifaceted, encompassing various aspects such as the physiological effects of alcohol on the body, the psychological factors contributing to alcohol addiction, the social implications of alcohol abuse, and the measures for prevention and treatment. Hummingbirds, unlike most other animals, do not find their food source based on smell. Because of this, brightly colored plants and feeders are what attract the tiny creatures to your garden. Red is the best color to attract them. Keeping a clean, full feeder provides hummingbirds with the energy they need to keep flying around your garden and to other stops on their feeding route. The sugar water solution, however, is not their main food source. Hummingbirds actually get the nutrients and proteins they need for survival from soft bodied spiders and tiny insects on the plants in your garden. Their outrageous metabolisms burn up calories so quickly, they need the sugar and flower nectars to keep them energized so they can hunt. The traditional sugar/water solution calls for one part sugar to four parts water. Do not boil the water to make syrup. Just mix it in room temperature water. Some gardeners have experimented with solutions that have a higher concentration of sugar to water. There is no research to show that high concentrated solutions of sugar harms the hummingbirds. Their metabolism operates so much differently than most animals. A higher concentration of solution just means they can drink less often to get the energy they need to hunt. It

I was walking alone a week prior after meeting up with some of my students that I tutor when I got a call from my old art professor. I took me back to when I started learning the wonder and culture behind art. After taking his course for half a year I gave up on art my levels of motivation dropped and I felt like I just couldn t do it. During our talk he recommended to a small coffee shop that offered art lessons for all levels of artist. Today December 30th the day before New Year s Eve was my first course at the coffee shop almost in the smack center of nowhere of New York. Every time the door would open you could hear the cars simultaneously rush by even if we were in an alleyway. • 23. Australopithecus Africanus Research Paper Australopithecus africanus is a species of human like and ape like animal. The Australopithecus africanus lived primarily in Southern Africa. A man by the name of Raymond dart set out to find one and he did. It was half ape and half human, and the skull of a child in Johannesburg, South Africa says Brain. Dart chipped and chipped away at the rock containing the skull until eventually he was able to make out the child s face. The child had a full set of milk teeth and also its permanent molars in place. Dart suggested that the skull, teeth, and jaw were closer to that of a humanoid. A humanoid is something else that has the appearance of a human being. He also noted that the spinal cord was connected to the brain which means that it
  • 24. Essay on Repairing Spinal Cord Injuries Injuries can happen to anyone, anywhere. Injuries affect people s lives as they limit their choices, temporarily or permanently. Most injuries are not preventable, because most happen unexpectedly. For example, spinal cord injuries can occur if a person falls abruptly on his/her back and shatters their spinal cord. Although injuries cannot be prevented, they can be healed. New technologies are under development to solve major injuries, which do not yet have a cure. One of these major injuries is a spinal cord injury. The human body consists of many important systems. The nervous system is one of these that ensure survival of a person. The nervous system is split into two main parts. The spinal cord and the brain make up the Central ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This results in either a loss of sensation, or a loss of perception. According to the Rick Hansen Spinal Cord Injury Registry, vehicle accidents make up 46% of spinal cord injuries. Acts of violence (from knife wounds or gun shots) make up 11% of spinal cord injuries. Falls and sports injuries make up 24%, industrial accidents (damages from chemicals) make up 5%, and other injuries (such as inflammation of the spinal cord) make up 14% of spinal cord injuries. The survival rate is reasonably high for those suffering from spinal cord injuries, but life will never be normal again. Since the connection between the brain and the receptor or effector is damaged, stimulations may not be interpreted or signals may not reach the effector. This might result in loss of balance, coordination, loss of sensation, uncontrolled movements, and paralysis. It is important to note that nerves in the CNS do not regenerate, while nerves in the PNS do regenerate. This is why when a person gets a cut; it completely heals in several days. But a person with spinal cord injury cannot completely heal because spinal cord does not contain neurilemma, a membrane that promotes regeneration of neurons. It was thought that the neurons would not regenerate once damaged. However, research has found that they do indeed have the ability to regenerate if scars do not obstruct the regenerative process. Scars are the result of astrocytes and

INTRODUCTION Recently, the concept of the Internet as a set of connected computer devices is changed to a set of connected surrounding things of human s living space, such as home appliances, machines, transportation, business storage, and goods etc. The number of things in the living space is larger than the number of world population. Research is going on how to make these things to communicate with each other like computer devices communicate through Internet. The communication among these things is referred as Internet of Things (IoT). Till now, there is no specific definition or standard architecture of IoT. Some researchers define the IoT as a new model that contains all of wireless communication technologies such as wireless sensor networks, mobile networks, and actuators. Each element of IoT is called a thing and should have a unique address. Things communicate using the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and work in harmony to reach a common goal. In addition, the IoT should contain a strategy to determine its users and their privileges and restrictions. Smart connectivity with existing networks and context aware computation using network resources is an indispensable part of IoT. With the growing presence of WiFi and 4G LTE wireless Inter net access, the evolution towards ubiquitous information and communication networks is already evident. However, for the Internet of Things vision to successfully emerge, the computing paradigm will need to go

Bialystok, Craik, and Luk (2012) investigated the growing body of evidence examining the presence of a bilingual advantage in terms of enhanced executive control: the group of cognitive skills involved in language switching, working memory and inhibition. Furthermore, the researchers examined evidence supporting the notion that differences in brainstructure and function helped to explain the bilingual advantage (Bialystok et al., 2012). In regards to joint activation in bilinguals, researchers found that both languages are always activated to some degree (Bialystok et al., 2012) Though this may cause language interference errors, bilinguals can select their target language with remarkable accuracy (Bialystok et al., 2012). Upon review of the literature, they found that bilinguals frequently utilized frontal systems (involved in executive control) to help manage attention to two language systems (Bialystok et al., 2012). In other words, whenever a bilingual said something, the executive control system was activated. To support this claim, fMRI research revealed that the activities in the frontal regions form neural networks in the brain that are unique to the bilingual s experience of managing two independent language systems (Bialystok et al., 2012. In essence, the evidence supported the notion that bilinguals exercise the executive control system when they have to say something and, this over time, leads to modifications in the neural networks and anatomical structures of

Tidewater has a large abundance of water and that made Hydropower a perfect choice. We have many reasons for our choice. Here you can learn all about what Hydropoweris and how it works. Also our reasons behind choosing it, the price, the pros and cons, and so much more! Enjoy! Hydropower works by a generator turned by a turbine. A dam raises the water level so the water can descend making the turbine turn from the power of the falling water. When the turbine is turned it produces electrical energy. The reservoir that is formed stores water. Transmission lines carries the electricity from the hydropower plant to cities, business and homes. Hydro Energy is stored by water flowing through a dam and having energy stay in it s area of generators. Its energy is released by generators turning and making electrical shock waves to create power. This resource produces about .85 cents per kilowatt hour. For this it depends on how big the power plant is and how many generators you ll need. Renewable energyis a hot topic these days. With the ever growing increase in population, demand of energy is also increasing everyday. Non renewable sources are limited, not environment friendly and increase or decrease in production of these sources can have direct result on the inflation. Renewable sources, on the

All hope seemed to be lost, until the United States won the battle, much to the surprise of the Japanese. Without America winning the battle, The Japanese would have occupied Hawaii, which would have given them a base between North America and Asia, and the Japanese would start their island hopping campaign. The Americans won the battle of Midway thanks to the U.S. intelligence deciphering codes from the Japanese, the failure of Japan not winning the Battle of the Coral Sea, and the failure of Japanese to destroy the fuel storage facilities at Pearl Harbor. Analogue Studies Do Not Aid Depression Knowledge The use of distressed college students as analogues for depression research, however, is not sufficient in meaningfully advancing our current knowledge of depression and its treatment. Due to ease of access and convenience, the excessive reliance on this sample has made some researchers neglect crucial and noteworthy differences. This paper will address these critical differences including severity and symptomatology, issues of generalizability and problems with the psychometrics. Lastly, this paper will illustrate how research of college students as analogue samples does not need to be discontinued; rather, several suggestions to improve this research will be explored. Currently, there are two views in the literature regarding depression: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This difference, however, is not found in the Beck Depression Inventory scores with students (Coyne, 1994). Goodman and Koenig (1992) attribute this finding to female college students having greater social support, less negative life events, and being exposed to a more egalitarian environment. Also, it has been established that minorities are underrepresented in college populations, and the minority students that are included in the samples do not accurately reflect the minority groups in the general population (Coyne, 1994). These significant differences in demographic factors indicate problems with generalizability. In addition to demographic factors, differences in symptomatology between distress and depression create problems when using college students as an analogue sample. A primary symptom of depression is anhedonia or marked loss of interest or pleasure in almost all activities (Coyne, 1994). However, when symptoms between college students and clinically depressed individuals were examined, it was found that the most significant difference in symptomatology between the two groups was for anhedonia, in which the college sample reported significantly lower levels (Cox, Enns, Borger, amp; Parker, 1999). This is a cause for concern, especially in regards to treatment development. Researchers could expend great resources developing a treatment based on an analogue sample such as college students, only to discover it is

However, the idea that a radial attack from the air would or could be a reality to kill thousands of people and ultimately brings the towers to the ground was not generally

The Repeated Failure of the League of Nations in Keeping Peace The League of Nations repeatedly failed in keeping the peace because, first of all Hitler went against the Treaty of Versailles and started World War 2 yet the League of Nations failed to react. The Treaty of Versailles also failed because Mussolini in Abyssinia went against the league and Manchuria also contributed towards the failure to keep the peace. The structure of the league didnГ‚ t help as the council only met once a year. The power of the league was very weak as there was no military force. Finally the lack of strong nations joining the league contributed to the failure of the League of Nations. The League of Nations failed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The League of Nations also failed because Mussolini, a dictator from Italy, prepared to invade Abyssinia. Abyssinia then asked the League for help; while the League of Nations talked to Mussolini he used the time to send an army into Africa. The League of Nations then suggested giving Abyssinia to Italy. Mussolini ignored the League of Nations and invaded Abyssinia. In secret however Britain and France agreed to give Abyssinia to Italy, the Hoare Laval Pact. Manchuria became a factor or the failure of the League of Nations in 1932 when the Japanese army invaded Manchuria and threw out the Chinese residents. They then set up their own government called the Г‚ ManchoukuoГ‚ . When china asked the League of Nations for help it sent a group of officials led by Lord Lytton to study the problem, this however took a year, but in February 1933 they ordered Japan to leave Manchuria. However Japan refused to leave Manchuria and instead left the League of Nations. As many countries had important trading links with Japan the League of Nations couldnГ‚ t agree on sanctions or even ban weapon sales. Britain and France didnГ‚ t want a war therefore nothing was done. This showed the League of Nations as weak and powerless therefore adding to the failures and breakdown of the League of Nations. The way the League of Nations was

Chronic Myeloid Leukaemi Symptoms And Treatment Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia is a hematopoietic proliferative disorder associated with a specific defect in the gene (Ciesla 2007, pp. 189). The gene defect is caused due to the translocation of the genetic material between chromosome 9 and chromosome 22 (t9: 22). The translocation prompts to the development of a hybrid gene BCR ALB in the Philadelphia chromosome, or Ph1. Therefore, this fusion gene mutation affects the maturation and differentiation of the haematopoietic cells (Ciesla 2007, pp. 189). However the introduction of a BCR ALB particular tyrosine kinase inhibitor, Imatinib has significantly enhanced the survival rate of the patient with chronic myeloid leukaemia (Hochhaus, et al.2015). This essay will briefly describe the diagnosis, treatment and future strategies for chronic myeloid leukaemia. Diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukaemia in most cases is done on the basis of differential blood count characterised by excess granulocytes (neutrophil, eosinophil and basophil) with typical left shift of granulopoesis (Hehlmann et al.2007). Conformation of CML can be done by identifying if there is a presence of Ph chromosome or BCR ALB transcript in the peripheral blood or the bone marrow cells (Hehlmann et al.2007). However, if Ph chromosome is not detected conformation can also be done by either reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) (Hehlmann et al.2007).
