Definition of Safety
“ Within the context of aviation industry, safety is the state which the
possibility of harm to persons or of property damage is reduced to and
maintained at or below an acceptable level through a continuing
process of hazard identification and safety risk management”
Aviation Safety
• Aviation safety is a fundamental objective of all aviation regulatory
bodies , improving safety, reducing accidents/incidents
• Safety always comes first in aviation because there are lives involved
in every operation of aircraft
• To keep passengers and flight crew safe while flying
• Safety is a priority for all airline, poor safety management costs

Employee Safety Roles and Responsibilities
• Every employee has a direct responsibility for health and safety as an
essential part of their job
• Report to the supervisor the absence of or defect in any equipment or
protective device of which the worker is aware and which may endanger
himself or another employee
• Report any hazards
• Have a clear understanding of their own skill, ability and limitation
• Report their errors, incidents, accidents or any occurrence that has
caused or has a potential to cause injury to the employee, damage to
aircraft/equipment within stimulated times

• Policies and Procedures explaining peoples roles and responsibilities
• SOPs provide for a safe and efficient operation of GHS activities
• System for reporting hazards and dealing with them
• Continuous process of hazard risk assessment and their management
• Use of PPE
• Continuous management of FOD
How can you be Safer at work
• Only perform tasks that you have been trained and qualified to do
safely
• Only use equipment that is serviceable and safe to operate at all
times
• Always follow SOPs and wear the correct PPE
• Report hazards, near misses and accidents
• Do not take unjustified risks and putting others in danger by your
actions
Personal Protective Equipment - PPE
• PPE is any safety clothing or equipment employees wear to prevent injuries in
the workplace
- Protects your body from occupational injuries
- prevent the spread of germs and infectious diseases including covid-19
- improves employee productivity and efficiency
- PPE is the last line of defense
- PPE must fit properly to protect you
