The bigger data volumes get, the wider the range of sources available, the more companies need to secure a strategic view of their information assets. This is no small challenge for all kinds of reasons, not the least of which is access to the growing array of valuable data sets available. Today's most innovative companies are using creative solutions to ride the information wave.
Register for this episode of The Briefing Room to hear veteran Analyst Dr. Robin Bloor, as he explains how the unbridled growth of data and information systems requires a holistic approach to information access. Agile Mumbai 2019 Conference | Defining and redefining value for Digital Tra...AgileNetwork
Session Title : Defining and redefining value for Digital Transformation
Session Overview : 90% of start-ups fail. 50% of these failures are attributed to one fact - they developed products that are not the need or unusable. Also, few years back Forrester estimated that $900 billion worth of spend in digital transformation will miss the mark. These failure statistics are startling. This session will ponder this challenge from examples of building various products in Brillio, how value is defined upfront, methods of engineering value and how each team member can be empowered with this thinking.

SharePoint dominates as an intranet and collaboration platform, but it seems increasingly challenged by more nimble, consumer-driven technologies. Microsoft too, seems to be putting the emphasis on Office 365. How should SharePoint evolve? How much should we be driven by employee expectations? And what should SharePoint teams be planning in response? In this keynote, Sam will consider:
• What are the trends in how people work and what they expect from their workplace tools?
• How useful is SharePoint as the basis for a digital workplace?
• How strong is the case for moving to Office 365?
• Is Microsoft’s roadmap enough to keep them in the lead?
• What are rival platforms doing that SharePoint misses?

My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

However, as technological advancements continue to push the boundaries of innovation, alternative operating systems have emerged, challenging the status quo and offering users a fresh perspective on computing.
One such alternative that has garnered significant attention and acclaim is Nitrux Linux 3.5.0, a sleek, powerful, and user-friendly Linux distribution that promises to redefine the way we interact with our devices. With its focus on performance, security, and customization, Nitrux Linux presents a compelling case for those seeking to break free from the constraints of proprietary software and embrace the freedom and flexibility of open-source computing.
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

As a boy growing up in the 80’s, playing with cars was a favorite past-time. But then in 1984, everything changed.
Transformers.
Suddenly, a toy car could be so, so much more. Here’s a car, that looks like a normal car, you can play with it like a normal car, but with a few twists and turns, this transformed into something incredible. It was a robot in disguise. This concept completely captured my imagination.
The brains behind the transformers took something we were already familiar with, something that we’d already played with for years, a toy car, and blew our young minds that this could be so, so much more. In fact, they wer’nt just robots in disguise, they were sentient beings from space who would ultimately save our world.
So why am I talking about transformers? Because this toy revolution of the 80’s is what I’m reminded of when I think about the business revolution going on right now in the twenty-tens, as they are calling this decade we are in.
We have been playing with digital content for many years now, especially the people here in this room associated with AIIM. Working with content, digitizing paper, standardizing document formats, debating metadata versus full text search.
Suddenly, what was in our hands, has changed.
Digital Transformation.
According to an excellent article I the guardian newspaper on the topic it focused on the driving factors of transformation:
“three key drivers of transformation: changing consumer demand, changing technology and changing competition.”
https://www.theguardian.com/media-network/media-network-blog/2013/nov/21/digital-transformation
All three of these could warrant a presentation all by itself, because in the last few years, the landscape has definitelyl changed.
So with the concept of transformers being sent here to save the world, we could say that digital transformation is the very thing that has appeared that looks destined to do the same for our organizations. It’s a trend that encompasses what we need to do to remain competitive, to ultimately survive as an organization.
Because if our competition is doing THIS, better than we are, we will be left behind.
And as we know, the term Digital Transformation transcends content, so much bigger. It’s a revolution affecting ALL parts of business and organizations, products and services.
On the very Wikipedia site for digital transformation is this image – a phone box transforming into a wifi hotspot.
Yet, the word transformation itself means “a marked change in form, nature or appearance”. So if it’s digital transformation, what has it changed from – where did the transformation begin? What is it transforming from?
Just as I’d been playing with toy cars for years and then it was a car that was a the basis for the transformer…digital transformation is a natural evolution from something we’ve all been doing for many years.
We, in this community, we are long time experts of working digitallyl, we’ve been digitizing information for years, we’ve formed careers, companies and an entire industry around the topic. We are uniquely positioned to drive digital transformation.
So how do we, as information professionals, make the leap from content management to digital transformation – to help our organizations transform what they are doing with their digital information battle it out in and survive in an ever agrsessive competitive landscape? And to meet the changing needs of our customers, our employees?
Just as I’d been playing with toy cars for years and then it was a car that was a the basis for the transformer…digital transformation is a natural evolution from something we’ve all been doing for many years.

And to meet the changing needs of our customers, our employees?
We take a lesson from my friends, the transformers. Yes if you were to read the comics or watch the movies, you will learn that to transform something ordinary (car - content) into something that can save the world (a transformer – Digital Transformation)
We are going to follow these three steps to see how to transform something ordinary, our content into something that will save the world, Digital Transformation. Let’s begin.
So what took that dusty old camero and transformed it?
It came in contact with this – the AllSpark. This object is able to bring mundane mechanical and electronic objects to life.
So if our content is the equivelant of our dusty old camero, what’s all-spark that will bring this to life? What is the essential first step on the journey to Digital Transformation?
https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/poohadventures/images/4/47/The_allspark_by_spirit_of_laharah-d4bfqlz-1.png/revision/latest%3Fcb%3D20140625022829&imgrefurl=http://poohadventures.wikia.com/wiki/The_Allspark&h=792&w=800&tbnid=x6S7X7RQfZi0MM:&vet=1&tbnh=186&tbnw=187&docid=8HaEauFoJraywM&itg=1&usg=__WxIWMiAHF7NhdttaY6WWKiNjx38=&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj3zNLYycTSAhVI5oMKHSYPDa8Q_B0IhAEwCg&ei=3L--WPfuJ8jMjwSmnrT4Cg#h=792&imgrc=x6S7X7RQfZi0MM:&tbnh=186&tbnw=187&vet=1&w=800
Is the AllSpark simply a matter of digitizing our content – going digital?
It is interesting that the Wikipedia page on Digital transformation says this - “In a narrower sense may refer to the concept of “going paperless”. We all understand the value of doing this. Digital transformation is simply impossible if critical information is not available digitally!
But let’s ask the question - Is digital information enough? Once we have digital information, we are well set up for digital transformation?
Lets list off some places where information is already available digitally:
Email - That’s digital, but when vital correspondence and documents that drive business and customer interactions are silo’d in individual mailboxes. This is digital content, but it’s not transformative.
Spreadsheets or Access Databases – Digital tools, often used to create micro-applications that manage mission-critical information. This is digital content, but it’s not transformative.
ECM repositories – A report by Forrester stated that 51% of organizations have 3 or more ECM systems in place, one large pharmacy had over 29 and was considering purchasing another cloud-based one! (Craig LeClair - Best Practices: Developing an ECM/BPM solution) Through purchase, or acquisition.. This is digital content, but it’s not transformative.
SharePoint sites, file Shares, Cloud-based document repositories – This is digital content, but, rather than feeling transformative, it feels more like a noose around an organizations neck.
All added together, and you ask - how many places is someone having to look for what they need? How can we respond to our customer AND EMPLOYEE expectations they have today of getting an answer within seconds.
This is how things have been for years!
This simple fact: Digital Information alone does not equal Digital Transformation.
Digital information is simply the starting place for digital transformation – that’s the dusty camero. (if anyone is still on paper – they don’t yet have a vehicle to transform!)
You know with the transformers, they are not all individual, independent machines. There’s a higher power inextricably linking them all together. What is it? It’s the very thing that created them in the first place, It’s the ALLSpark. This not only breathes life into them but importantly CONNECTS all the transformers together. Whoever has the AllSpark can make an army of digital machines.
So what’s the all spark for digital transformation? What is it that will begin the transformation of all the digital silos and repositories we just talked about>?
https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/poohadventures/images/4/47/The_allspark_by_spirit_of_laharah-d4bfqlz-1.png/revision/latest%3Fcb%3D20140625022829&imgrefurl=http://poohadventures.wikia.com/wiki/The_Allspark&h=792&w=800&tbnid=x6S7X7RQfZi0MM:&vet=1&tbnh=186&tbnw=187&docid=8HaEauFoJraywM&itg=1&usg=__WxIWMiAHF7NhdttaY6WWKiNjx38=&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj3zNLYycTSAhVI5oMKHSYPDa8Q_B0IhAEwCg&ei=3L--WPfuJ8jMjwSmnrT4Cg#h=792&imgrc=x6S7X7RQfZi0MM:&tbnh=186&tbnw=187&vet=1&w=800
An enterprise vision for managing related digital information is the ALLSpark for Digital Transformation.
Hold on, you might say. You are suggesting Enterprise Content Management is the answer? Didn’t we try that and it failed? Wasn’t the idea of centrally managing all your content in a single place a pipe dream from the very beginning? Before you roll your eyes, consider this description of the transformers’ allspark
“An ancient artifact capable of creating new transformer life”.
Yes, ECM is an ancient artifact. But notice that I didn’t say ECM was the ALLspark for digital transformation, within the concept of ECM, is a very powerful idea.
An enterprise vision for managing related digital information is the ALLSpark for Digital Transformation.
This is the key. This is where we change our perception of these tools from being problem silos, to useful sources.
However, if we have taken a centralized approach to all the related information, and we’ve agregared that together into a central place, that’s where automation can literally take over.
And when we then make it easy to centralize THIS content, regardless of format or where it was initially stored – to dynamically pull in the relevant scanned images, email correspondence, word documents, PDFs, videos, etc. that’s the AllSpark.
An enterprise vision for managing related digital information is the ALLSpark for Digital Transformation.
Only once we do this, can we experience the second stage, which is the transformation itself.
Recognize The transformation
Well, it started driving by itself. It talked to him. Then it totally changed it’s appearance.
So how do we recognize when our digital information is starting to transform? Let’s identify the three tell tale signs that you are on the road to digital transformation with the same criteria.
Think about all the repositories we talked about previously. Email inboxes, file shares, SharePoint sites, ECM repositories. If your important content comes into your organization, and ends up in these places as final desintations and then sits there until someone looks for it, you are not transforming. It’s just sitting there, it’s not going anywhere until someone takes the wheel, so to speak.
However, if we have taken a centralized approach to all the related information, and we’ve agregared that together into a central place, that’s where automation can literally take over.
Using workflow/BPM technology, we can being applying machine logis IF, THEN conditions to our content and information.
classic example – We receive an invoice for X amount, the data is already centrally available that we ordered it by being able to reference the PO and that we can automatically check that we received what we ordered – add in some acceptance criteria – anything in a delta of $50 isn’t worth worrying about – auto-approve. Anything that requires human intervention can get routed instantly to the right person, by role or through a load-balancing of work.
The same thing can happen when a candidate applies for employment, that application can be matched to prior applications – see if this person worked there before or has applied before and what roles they applied for, auto-match required qualifications with entries on the application, and then route to the correct recruiter if there’s a match.
This same logic can be applied when a student is transferring between schools and there’s a transfer of credits, if the corresponding classes and credits are available digitally, much of this reconciliation can be done by a machine.
These are not revolutionary ideas, they are happening right now in thousands of organizations. When your content is driving itself, that’s the first sign of transformation. The next one is absolutely related.
Employees - Routing the right tasks to the right people. Send notifications that something needs to happen.
Managers - Pop up on your phone, in your email that a task has been completed, that a threshold is close to being broken.
