What is it?
 Agritourism involves any
agriculturally-based activity
that brings visitors to a
farm or ranch and that
includes a wide variety of
activities like picking fruit,
feeding animals, or staying
on a farm, etc.
 For many farmers
agritourism is the additional
source of income and way
of promotion.
Potential Benefits
 to add value to farm products through right marketing strategy
 work at home instead job in town
 greater understanding and appreciation of what agriculture is about
 bridges between farmers and consumers, and between rural and urban
citizens
Potential Drawbacks
 Much additional (keep a farm clean, safe, and ready
for the public)
 increasing the farmer’s regulatory and liability risks
Governmental support for agritourism
All European Community (EC) countries have government
organizations that promote agritourism and often provide
financial support and incentives to participating farmers.
Public Awareness
 People  become more
interested in how their food is
produced
 Chance to see the source of
our food
 Farmers 
develop their farm
or ranch, increase
interest in the
quality and
awareness of their
products.
Agritourism in US
Federal Reserve Board in Kansas shows:
travel & tourism industries = 3.6 % of all U.S. employment.
1 out of every 18 people in the U.S. has a job directly connected
with travelling.

are well developed
Main aim- provide
visitors and potential
entrepreneurs with
information about existing
agritourism locations
throughout the state.
Western North Carolina
The organization “HandMade” is using agritourism to develop their local
economy and craft trades, and to tell visitors about agriculture practices.
"... market, that helps people to understand the important role that
farming and rural life plays in our history, by highlighting the need for it in
our contemporary society”
Conclusion Farms and tourism - this
combination become more popular
around the world and especially
across the US.
 Agritourism-oriented farms can
serve an important function: help to
educate people about the critical
roles that farms and farmers play in
our society.
