This presentation presents a simple and direct model for Agile Portfolio Management based on four key concepts:
1. The type of work you're doing.
2. The portfolio governance model.
3. The project governance model (the shape of the project).
4. The size / number of Agile teams.
The deck presents simple, scalable, effective approaches to Agile Portfolio Management that are lighter than most Agile methods and are supported by Conteneo's Collaboration Frameworks. The Agile Manifesto has been around since 2001 and, although the industry has rapidly developed, the principles still hold very true. However, there are lots of great new ideas that people have been experimenting with since the Manifesto was signed and, in this talk, attendees will hear about a few of these developments, focusing on the concept of Modern Agile.
About Jacob Creech:
Jacob started out in web development around 2000 and discovered that people constantly asked for things they didn't actually need, which led him on a journey of discovery that ended up in this thing called 'Agile'. He found himself in China helping develop virtual products for Second Life and then as the one and only non-Chinese person in a web development agency – good for language practice, not so much for delivering amazing work.
After some time back in New Zealand on a usability product among other things, he returned to China to co-found an Agile consulting company, worked with a variety of large, impressive-sounding international companies at a scale that would make most New Zealand cities look tiny, and managed to stumble into a range of interesting opportunities all around Asia that kept him busy for the next few years.
However, after some time, he got the itch to return to NZ and ended up at Assurity in late 2015 where he now heads up the Agile practice and works with government and non-government clients to deliver work in ever-improving ways. In his spare time, he (poorly) plays table tennis and enjoys naming babies after entrepreneurs.

Leading a several thousand people organization towards Agile is not an easy task. It is a complex challenge where there is a very low predictability of success of your change initiatives. In this talk I will give you some theoretical background on how to successfully approach change in your company. I will exemplify this with the story of our agile change at Ericsson, one of the world’s largest SW companies. I will talk about our change initiatives, the desired and undesired things that emerged from them and how we acted upon them. This will help you understand the nature of an organizational change towards Agile and how to successfully approach it yourself.
Over the years agile became a common way of software development. More and more companies adopt to the agile manifesto.
But there are some challenges on the way to become an agile organization. One is the question of how to deal with financial planning. The previous answer was: Budgeting. But butgeting does not scale with the velocity of agile projects. The idea to solve this problem exists much longer then the idea of agile itself: Go Beyond Budgeting.
Learn how an evolved PMO can bring discipline to project prioritization, track project portfolios, and provide the support teams need to embrace Agile.

Scrum teams use burn down chart to represent/track the iteration progress, and the most common burn down chart is the time-based one. But when doing that our team got some problems, it's not accurate to use time-based burn down to represent the true velocity and the feature completion. We experienced the situation that the team-velocity was pretty good, which means team could "burn" enough hours, while we didn't DELIVER as many feature comparing with the burn down. This topic is a case study based on what we did trying to resolve our problems.

Adrian discussed agile project management and the challenges of assurance. Adrian kicked off with a challenge to the audience that there is no such thing as agile project management, rather that agile is about a state of mind and behaviours.
Agile development methods such as Scrum, XP, and kanban have achieved notable success in improving speed to value, reducing waste, and raising customer and team satisfaction. Successful practitioners worldwide have cut development times, improved product quality, and reduced development cost. Underlying these agile methods are timeless lean principles—focus on customer value, respect for people, and continuous improvement. Sanjiv Augustine describes how agile teams are implementing lean management. Learn the basics of lean, including its origins in the Toyota Production System, and how to apply lean to software development with disciplined practices such as automated build-and-test and test-driven development. Find out how to apply kanban to non-software activities including operations and maintenance. Take away new approaches for PMOs to manage WIP, how executive teams can use visual control to manage their enterprises, and how kaizen teams drive continuous improvement across the organization.
