The crises of product and service innovation in most organisations due to global competition and the need for scientific research in the project portfolio management discipline were factors that motivated this research. The purpose of this study is to investigate how project portfolio management(ppm) contributes to product and service innovation. A questionnaire was developed to gather data to compare the PPM methods used, PPM performance and resulting new product success measures in sixty Nigeria organisations in a diverse range of service and manufacturing industries. The study findings indicated that PPM practices have a greater impact in the new product and services success rate. Also, business strategy method result in better alignment of the projects in the portfolio. This conclusion is supported by the 0.630 Pearson correlations at 0.000 significance between percentage of successful products and PPM performance level. The results reveal that for better innovation outcomes, management should place a priority on developing and improving PPM.

This document is based on MSP, Lean and Six Sigma programme methodologies. The key difference and unique perspective for this methodology is that the programme never closes down but focuses on continuous improvement. This document reduces the number of documents that can often lead to confusion as identified in a number of methodologies. The document sets the reason for the programme in regards to operational strategies, objectives and balanced scorecard reporting. As with most programme management methodologies, the document focuses on the now (Current state / as is) again the future (to be / future state). There are several inbuilt excel templates to boot including objectives weighting mechanisms, SIPOC flow diagrams and business cases. Over the past few years the APM Governance SIG has been at the forefront of developing new thinking on governance, for example we have published guides – Directing Change, Co-Directing Change, Sponsoring Change. In recent discussions around specific high profile projects, practitioners have explained how organisations have struggled to apply traditional approaches, methods and controls to the growing number of Agile projects. It is therefore the ambition of the GovSIG to develop guidance for the agile governance of agile projects / portfolios. SIG members came together to explore the governance lessons from Agile projects to date and to set the framework for developing guidance for the governance of Agile projects. There was a short presentation to set the scene and then a workshop session which was led by Brian Wernham and Martin Samphire. Managing the evolution of a single product working with a small number of teams is somewhat straightforward. Working from a single backlog, once the teams have established a predictable velocity, the product roadmap becomes relatively easy to visualize, whether by timeframe or feature set. As we increase the complexity of the product, things become harder. Different teams require different backlogs. Different products require work from different teams. Before you know it, there are lots of independent moving parts, with the risk that the coordination cost becomes higher and efficiency falls. In this talk, we consider some ground rules for visualizing work across multiple teams and discuss how dependencies are coordinated across different teams and product lines.

However, once there's an element of uncertainty, conscious assessments are only part of the story. Two other inputs, both subconscious and driven by our innate need to survive, have a big impact. One, automatic reactions driven by cognitive biases, gets plenty of airtime.
