The document describes a Flash Build, which is a 1-2 day agile event where a team works to build something useful in a short time period. It discusses when Flash Builds are useful, such as to jumpstart a stalled project or teach agile principles without using agile terminology. The document then provides a detailed example agenda and instructions for organizing a Flash Build, emphasizing planning, short development cycles, demonstrations, and retrospectives.

Agile Testing FAQs and Mythbuster - Software Testing Atlanta Conference 2015Yuval Yeret
Agile brings us many challenges (and opportunities!) to the world of testing. Through his work in the trenches, Uval has encountered many testing professionals who struggle with agile. Some of these struggles are due to following "by the book" practices without understanding the underlying principles. Others are due to myths being spread. In this presentation, Uval will share these struggles and questions that testers and their managers often face, and recommend answers. Participants will leave with a better understanding of what agile really means for a testing organization, processes, and the profession, and will be better positioned to support and champion a change towards real agility in their organization.
@AgilePT 2016 - HyP: A journey to greater efficiencyBruno Cacho
HyP stands for the journey of Farfetch’s FrontEnd teams to find different ways of work, by applying on the field, Jeff Sutherland’s hyperprodutivity patterns for highly efficient teams. These patterns are bounded to the origins and foundations of Scrum, and so, they comprises dynamics that have been identified in highly successful Scrum teams, all around the world.
At the end you will have an introduction of all 9 HyP patterns, how they work together, complemented with some great field stories and finally the results of our journey.
This journey was an extraordinary, collective, eye opening experience, and will leave no one indifferent. Be ready to get inspirational by stories and ideas that emerged in our journey.
This is a basic-level presentation on the Scrum framework, primarily based on the official Scrum guide. This will be useful for readers who are getting started on Scrum, as well as experienced Scrum practitioners as a quick refresher.

PowerPoint presentation on Agile software development and Scrum. First and foremost it´s not about tools or processes. It´s about the mindset needed to be successful in delivering valuable software to the customer
This presentation covers why visualization is a good thing in projects, and some of the various simple but powerful visualization techniques which can be used in Agile projects.
I recently delivered a talk to product owners at Cisco. While I would normally cover this stuff over a period of two days, this was a 90 minute talk about some of the aspects of product ownership. None of this is my own creation - for I have learnt all this from the practitioner community, I am more than happy to share it with the community.
Note: If any attribution is missing, I will be happy to correct my mistake :)
My presentation in the Conference Agile Spain 2014
This is an introduction of Scrum where you can find an awesome big picture with each event, artifact and roles involved to make Scrum works.

Implementing Dual-Track Agile :: Lessons from the trenches @ITSpring.by May 2019Pedro Teixeira
Evermore people are talking about Discovery and Hypothesis-driven approaches. But where do you start? What do they really mean?
Pedro will share with us how he moved away from a 2-year delivery roadmap by enabling his Engineering teams to do a Dual Track Agile. A real case-study!
Key Learning Points:
- Understand what Dual Track Agile is
- Learn why Pedro and his team decided to use it at OutSystems
- Know what was the strategy in place for the Change Management
- Understand their failures and what they have learned with it
- Identify some Common Pitfalls
- Understand the importance of cadence for alignment and trust
- Understand the importance of building (truly) autonomous teams
How to make SAFe really SAFE Scaling Agile using Pull/Invite rather than Push...Yuval Yeret
https://agile2016.sched.org/event/6ecx/how-to-make-safe-really-safe-scaling-agile-using-pullinvite-rather-than-pushmandate-yuval-yeret
Abstract:
The Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe(tm)) is a powerful and popular framework for implementing agile at large scale across the enterprise.
In this talk we will examine some dangerous Agile at Scale implementation anti-patterns from real-world cases I've been involved in such as:
Planned/Mandate-based implementation across the enterprise - Pushing implementations onto people regardless of their interest/motivation to change.
Prescribed-based implementation - Either by the book or as designed by a central committee or an external consultant.
Total focus on practices starting from training all the way through assessment/metrics and lack of attention to spirit/principles.
Expecting every group in the organization to work the same way and implement change the same way.
We will then look at some healthier alternatives I used to drive more successful & sustainable change in several organizations. You will learn some concrete techniques that help live up to the Lean/Agile principles of respecting and engaging people.
Using SAFe as the specific backdrop for discussion, we will review field-proven ideas such as pull-based crossing the chasm approach to implementation, use of open space as part of the different SAFe ceremonies, and how Open Space Agility can combine with SAFe.
Note that the ideas and practices have also been tried with other Scaled Agile approaches such as Enterprise Kanban, LeSS.
Learning Outcomes:
Get familiar with some scaled agile implementation anti-patterns related to push/mandate.
Understand when to choose pull/invitation as a healthier more sustainable and successful alternative.
Get some concrete techniques to bring pull/invitation into a scaled agile implementation approach - focusing on SAFe 1-2-3 implementation approach specifically.
Have a high-level understanding of how to implement SAFe using "Open Space Technology".
Understand how to apply these ideas to any Scaled Agile approach (not just SAFe)
Presentation to Lonetree PMI Roundtable on August 27, 2008.
Abstract:
According to the Wall Street Journal agile development has "crossed the chasm." Why then are there still strong pockets of intense resistance to agile? This presentation takes a look at some of the most common misconceptions about agile development. It exposes the truth behind the myths and backs up many of the points with actual industry data. In the process, a basic business case for agility is created. The goal of this session is for all participants to leave with the knowledge necessary to answer the question "Why Agile?" In addition, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the realities of agile development and how it can help organizations.
10 Steps to Developing Great Ideas on time and on budget using Lean & Agile...DigitalWoman.com
My Name is Nelly Yusupova. I’m the CTO of Webgrrls International, I am also a technology advisor and consultant to many startups and businesses and the creator of 2 bootcamps TechSpeak for Entrepreneurs & Build your Social Media Footprint.
I’ve been building software products for over a decade now and what I’ve learned is that most business ideas fail not because they have the wrong technology but because they don’t have a well defined business model….how they are going to make money.
There is a whole movement in startups known as the LEAN movement that encourages entrepreneurs to validate their idea and understand the problem it solves before investing a lot of technology into it.
In this presentation, you will learn about the 10 Steps to Developing Great Ideas on time and on budget using Lean & Agile Methodologies. Each step is essential and is designed to help you minimize the damage of mistakes by seeing the red flags earlier and catch mistakes earlier...saving you lots of money and lots of time
Agile is an iterative approach to project management and software development that helps teams deliver value to their customers faster and with fewer headaches. ... Requirements, plans, and results are evaluated continuously so teams have a natural mechanism for responding to change quickly.
Agile concepts for quality and process engineers for slideshareYuval Yeret
Excerpt from a session introducing agile concepts for a group of quality engineers in a big enterprise undergoing an agile transition.
The aim was to expose Quality/Process engineers to the concepts of agility and emphasize the impact on process/methodology development, the approach of evolution vs big design up front and its impact on their work. I used a lot of the classic agile examples (a lot of them by Henrik Kniberg) and adjusted for the development of methodology, to show that actually the agile approach should be discovered using an agile process.
Also covers some complexity thinking aspects.
And of course - this is not limited to methodology for IT/product development, but to many kinds of change management.
Agile Innovation - Product Management in Turbulent timesVasco Duarte
In today’s world we are constantly confronted with the message that the competition is breeding down our necks, that the market and environment are changing and we need to change with them. And most importantly, we are told that we need to listen to our customers to be able to provide the right products.
We as a Product Managers need to be able to see beyond the basic product decisions, e.g. do we add feature A or feature B? We need to think beyond the silo of our function.
How to Jumpstart Enterprise Agile AdoptionTechWell
Want to get a jumpstart on agile adoption in your organization? Begin by leveraging a roadmap that Intuit has used for rolling out enterprise agile to its business units. While there is no single way to bring enterprise agile into your organization, Alan Padula describes a model that has worked repeatedly. The important first step is to create a vision of what full agile adoption looks like. Once a rich vision is created describing what people will be doing and how they will be doing it, create a roadmap, a time-sequenced plan with milestones. Each milestone has a description of everyone’s job responsibilities, the measurements to take along the way, the personal and business benefit, and the set of activities planned in order to achieve each succeeding milestone. Key transition activities include training, infrastructure, change leadership, planning, and governance. Join Alan for the jumpstart you need to successfully adopt agile in your organization.

JDD2014: Agile transformation - how to change minds, deliver amazing results ...PROIDEA
Transitioning an organization from Waterfall to Agile can be difficult much like any change management tends to be. For most people involved, it ends up being an ordeal. But, there is a better way. With the right strategy and tools, this can be a rather rewarding and unifying experience instead. In this talk, we will discuss one such transition and the elements that contributed to its success.
From Chaos to Confidence: DevOps at LeanKitJon Terry
As a company, LeanKit have believed in Lean, Kanban, Agile, DevOps since our founding. We've alway talked about how important these ideas are - in the community and inside our company.
But that doesn't mean that doing those things in practice has been easy. We're a very fast growing startup in a very competitive market space. We've tripled in size in less than a year and nearly came apart at the seams at times.
In fact, in the fall of 2015, our technology team were having a very hard team. We were out of synch with our sales & marketing partners and facing a lot of internal conflict.
But we came together as a team and worked hard to implement a well coordinated system of values, team structure, cadences, and standard practices. We're now in a much better place as a team and generating much better results for our company.
There are no one-size-fits-all answers for companies. I can't promise that if you copy LeanKit you'll succeed. But we do think we have some interesting lessons learned to share and that you just might be able to pick up some ideas that you can take back to your company.

Remote Working in a SAFe Environment: Collaborative Online Meetings and Fully...Cprime
While both the Agile manifesto and SAFe highlight the benefits of face-to-face communication, it has often been the case that organizations need to work remotely. The reasons for this can be varied – it may be due to very large teams in highly distributed locations, extensive travel time and cost commitments, or even as the result of unplanned travel restrictions, such as those being currently experienced.
This last scenario has led to a fully remote situation, where everyone is working from a separate location, interacting with colleagues through the use of technology.
This can lead to certain challenges, and in this webinar we will share guidance for successfully facilitating a fully distributed PI Planning event and leading collaborative online meetings.
In this Webinar, experts Andrew Sales (Scaled Agile), and Mike Carew (Cprime) will cover the following:
*Guiding the necessary behaviors for remote working with a Lean-Agile mindset
*Techniques for leading collaborative online meetings
*Overcoming pitfalls and success patterns for remote events
*Preparing and facilitating a successful, fully distributed PI Planning
*Recent experiences from Scaled Agile and their first remote PI Planning

Developing Distributed High-performance Computing Capabilities of an Open Sci...Globus
COVID-19 had an unprecedented impact on scientific collaboration. The pandemic and its broad response from the scientific community has forged new relationships among public health practitioners, mathematical modelers, and scientific computing specialists, while revealing critical gaps in exploiting advanced computing systems to support urgent decision making. Informed by our team’s work in applying high-performance computing in support of public health decision makers during the COVID-19 pandemic, we present how Globus technologies are enabling the development of an open science platform for robust epidemic analysis, with the goal of collaborative, secure, distributed, on-demand, and fast time-to-solution analyses to support public health.
In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.
Code reviews are vital for ensuring good code quality. They serve as one of our last lines of defense against bugs and subpar code reaching production.
Yet, they often turn into annoying tasks riddled with frustration, hostility, unclear feedback and lack of standards. How can we improve this crucial process?
In this session we will cover:
- The Art of Effective Code Reviews
- Streamlining the Review Process
- Elevating Reviews with Automated Tools
By the end of this presentation, you'll have the knowledge on how to organize and improve your code review proces

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.
How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.
