George Edward Alcorn, Jr. was born on March 22, 1940, to George and Arletta Dixon Alcorn.					 Attended Occidental College in Pasadena, California.	 	 An x-ray spectrometer assists scientists in identifying a material by producing an x-ray spectrum of it, allowing it to be examined visually. This is especially advantageous when the material is not able to be broken down physically.
Dr. Daniel Hale Williams was an African American who made history by performing the first successful open heart surgery operation.  Daniel Hale Williams was born in 1856 in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, the fifth of eight children. In Janesville Daniel began to attend high school. He graduated from Hare's Classical Academy in 1877.
Died    December 30, 2009. Born 1914 Hickory, Virginia.					 She moved from Virginia to New Jersey where she studied to be a physical therapist at the Panzar College of Physical Education and at Union Junior College				 The electrical device allowed a tube to deliver one mouthful of food at a time to a patient in a wheelchair or in a bed whenever he or she bit down on the tube.
Lonnie Johnson October	6,1949  to  June 16, 1970 The top selling toy in the United States in 1991 and 1992, over 40 million Super Soakers have generated over $200 million in sales since 1990.  In his hometown of Marietta, Georgia, February 25, 1994 was declared "Lonnie G. Johnson Day" in his honor.  Lonnie Johnson was born on October 6, 1949 in Mobile, Alabama

Invention: (Best known for) Super Soaker Water Gun
In 1991 and 1992, this was the top selling toy.
During high school, he won in a national inventing competition for building a robot out of scraps from the junkyard.
He helped to develop thermodynamic and control systems for use with space projects.
He developed a CFC free refrigeration system with a hydraulic heat pump.,[object Object]
Death:  1914 in Saratoga Lake, New York
Invented the potato chips
In 1853, George Crum was employed as a chef in an elegant resort in Saratoga Springs, New York.
During that time, a dinner guest was displeased with the French fries stating they were too thick.  George Crum sliced them so thin that they would be too crisp to use with a fork, but the customer loved them!,[object Object]
He worked as a guide in the Adirondack Mountains and an Indian trader.
He was born George Speck but used the name Crum which was a name his father used a jockey.,[object Object]
Death: January 5, 1943 in Tuskegee, Alabama
Inventions: Developed hundreds of uses and products from peanuts, sweet potatoes, and pecans, such as cosmetics, paints, stains and many more.,[object Object]
Most of his products he didn’t make a profit or patent them.
Developed crop rotation.
He was a botanist.
He was the first African American student and later faculty member at Iowa State Agricultural College.
He also studied art and piano.
He designed a mobile school called a “Jesup Wagon” to bring education to farmers.,[object Object]
Death:  December 11,1928
Inventions:  Carbon filament for the light bulb,[object Object]
He taught himself mechanical  drawing.
Alexander Graham Bell hired him to draw the plans for the telephone.
In 1884 he worked for Thomas Edison as a patent investigator .
He also wrote a book on how the incandescent lamp works.,[object Object]
Death: January 30, 1910 in New York City
List of a Few Inventions: improved steam boiler furnace, improved telephone transmitter, concept of a third rail to allow a train to receive more electricity which is still used on subway train platforms, Synchronous Multiplex Railway Telegraph which allowed moving trains to send messages to railway stations.,[object Object]
He obtained more than 50 patents for his inventions.
Sold some inventions to Westinghouse, General Electric, and American Engineering.
While working in a railroad machine shop and steel mills, he taught himself electrical and mechanical engineering.
At the age of 10, he began working in a machine shop repairing railroad equipment.,[object Object]

Dr. Mark Dean Born on March 2, 1957 Has several patents for computer inventions Started working at IBM in 1980 He holds three of IBM's original nine PC patents and currently holds more than 20 total patents
Dr. Charles Drew Born on June 3, 1904 Washington D.C. Died April 1, 1950 at the age of 45 years old  Invented the blood bank Went to Columbia University to do his Ph.D. on blood storage
Benjamin Banneker Born November 9 1731 Died October 9, 1806 at the age of 74 years old Invented Americas first clock Was  a farmer, mathematician, astronomer, author and land surveyor
Lonnie Johnson Born on October 6, 1949 Invented the Super Soaker water gun in 1982 Has worked with the US Air Force and NASA
George Crum Born on October 26th, 1926, in Providence, Rhode Island Died September 8th, 2007 He lived in Saratoga Lake, NY for most of his life His parents were Le Roy and Polly Crum Le Roy was a flour miller George ran away to enlist in the military at age 18 Invented the potato chip on accident Potato chips were never patented, and George never took credit for the invention

Her father, Rupert, was a well educated man that was a motorman for N.Y.C subway and a merchant seaman
Gladys, her mother, worked as a housewife and domestic
She invented Cataract Laserphaco Probe that was patented in 1988

She was born to George Stewart, a schoolteacher, and Annie Stewart
She went to Chicago Christian high school, Bethune-Cookman college, and Chicago Musical College
She invented a machine that would permanently wave women's hair for many days

  • 7. George Edward Alcorn, Jr. was born on March 22, 1940, to George and Arletta Dixon Alcorn. Attended Occidental College in Pasadena, California. An x-ray spectrometer assists scientists in identifying a material by producing an x-ray spectrum of it, allowing it to be examined visually. This is especially advantageous when the material is not able to be broken down physically.
  • 8. Dr. Daniel Hale Williams was an African American who made history by performing the first successful open heart surgery operation. Daniel Hale Williams was born in 1856 in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, the fifth of eight children. In Janesville Daniel began to attend high school. He graduated from Hare's Classical Academy in 1877.

She moved from Virginia to New Jersey where she studied to be a physical therapist at the Panzar College of Physical Education and at Union Junior College The electrical device allowed a tube to deliver one mouthful of food at a time to a patient in a wheelchair or in a bed whenever he or she bit down on the tube.
