The journal welcomes publications of high quality papers on theoretical developments and practical applications in mechanical and civil engineering. Original research papers, state-of-the-art reviews, and high quality technical notes are invited for publications.
Most commercial vehicles used for transportation are not manufactured in Nigeria. As a result, the design of these vehicles, which relies on anthropometric measurements from the manufacturing countries, does not adequately accommodate the variations in anthropometric measurements of Nigerian drivers. This mismatch can lead to musculoskeletal disorders. Therefore, this study aims to examine the ergonomics of the commercial vehicles used by occupational drivers in Southwest Nigeria.
A total of 161 drivers were randomly selected, and data was collected through questionnaires. The anthropometric characteristics of the drivers were measured using a stadiometer and measuring tape. Seat design variables were also measured using a tape rule and steel rule.
The collected data were subjected to statistical analysis, including the calculation of means, standard deviations, and 5th, 50th, and 95th percentiles of the anthropometric measurements. A comparison was made between the existing seat dimensions and the required anthropometric measurements of the drivers for proper seat design.
The analysis revealed a discrepancy between the anthropometric measurements of the drivers and the seat design variables, which may contribute to musculoskeletal disorders. The average anthropometric measurements for sitting height (erect), sitting height (normal), shoulder height, buttock-knee length, and buttock-popliteal length were found to be 83.01cm, 77.86cm, 52.71cm, 57.07cm, and 50.20cm, respectively.
Based on these findings, it is recommended that the seat variables should be adjusted to better accommodate the anthropometric characteristics of Nigerian drivers. Specifically, the recommended seat dimensions are 32.80cm to 42.70cm for seat width, 44.51cm to 55.88cm for cushion depth, 44.45cm to 59.69cm for backrest height, and a seat angle of 900 to 1300 to improve driver comfort and reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
Conventional methods having some drawbacks i.e. low onion removing rate, More labor & time requirement, high investment cost.
Also in available existing model the drawback is that it operates in reverse direction, No arrangement for changing the digging depth, No one line collection arrangement ,Less conveyor capacity, power requirement is more.
To develop the modified onion harvesting machine for minimizing above drawbacks.
In India Onion is one of the most important crop, approximately on 11.6lac ha onion is planted every year (36000 ha in Maharashtra).
One of the main reasons of low productivity is insufficient power availability in the farm and low level of farm mechanization.
Area under the onion is about 7% of total area under vegetables in the country.
About 21.4% of total expenditure for harvesting in conventional process.
Mechanization reduces unit cost of production through higher productivity.
The milking machine is a nearly automatic machine installation for milking cows. The system consists of the cluster (the assembly that is manually attached to the cow), a milk tube, a pulse tube and pulsator, a vacuum pump or blower, and perhaps a recorder jar or milk meter that measures yield. Together, the system allows milk to flow into a pipeline in preparation for shipping to a processing plant.
The cluster consists of teat cups, a shell and liner device that actually performs the milking action, and a claw or manifold that spaces the teat cups and connects them to the milk and pulse tubes. The milk tube carries the milk and air mixture away from the cow's udder to receiving tanks. The pulse tube, or airline, carries the varying air pressure from the pulsator device to the tanks, drawing the milk and fluids out of the cows as well.
In operation, milk is drawn from the cow's teats because a vacuum is created within the cup device, forcing the milk through the teat canal. The pulsator alternates the pressure, first creating a vacuum (milk phase), and then applying air, which causes the flexible liner in the cup to collapse and massage the teat (rest phase). The alternating process of milk-and-rest is continued in a rhythmic pattern for the cows' health and good milk productivity.
Milking machines are used to harvest milk from cows when manual milking becomes inefficient or labour intensive. The milking unit is the portion of a milking machine for removing milk from an udder. It is made up of a claw, four teat cups, (Shells and rubber liners) long milk tube, long pulsation tube, and a pulsator. The claw is an assembly that connects the short pulse tubes and short milk tubes from the teat cups to the long pulse tube and long milk tube. (Cluster assembly) Claws are commonly made of stainless steel or plastic or both. Teat cups are composed of a rigid outer shell (stainless steel or plastic) that holds a soft inner liner or inflation. Transparent sections in the shell may allow viewing of liner collapse and milk flow. The annular space between the shell and liner is called the pulse chamber.
India is an agricultural country hence production of onion per ha is more as compared to other countries. Also, commonly used manual harvesting of onions is time consuming, less efficient and full of complex so the mechanization of the onion harvester is needed. Hence it is necessary to develop the onion harvester that will reduce both time and cost.
Onion is removed out by blade which is adjustable at different angles as per requirements. After that onions are passed over soil separation conveyor over which the soil is removed from the onion bulbs. The conveyor is powered by 12.98 Kw PTO power at the speed of 540 rpm with reduction by gearbox and chain drive. Finally the onion is collected manually for further processing.

Automotive gearbox also have the provision to do the opposite ie provide an increase in output shaft speed with a reduction of torque.
Most gearboxes are used to increase torque & reduce the speed of a output shaft. This produces a mechanical advantage .

The purpose of this project is to spread out the fertilizer over land without human work.
It is an tractor driven fertilizer spreader in which the torque is transmitted from tractor engine shaft to machine shaft.
When the machine shaft rotate the blades inside the hopper and spreader disc also rotate.
Fertilizer contain in the hopper is flow downward direction due to gravity and spread the fertilizer through vanes due to centrifugal force created outside the disc.
The control mechanism is used for control the flow of fertilizer.
With maximum speed of shaft maximum force is created outside the disc due to which large area of land is covered by fertilizer.
