Analysis Of Champion Of The World By Maya Angelou
Symbolism and Change in Sports Throughout the years, sports have become a major part of society.
Sports, a large percentage of the time, are a part of peoples lives in one way or another. Whether they
participate in them or just enjoy watching them, sports are a big deal to the majority of people. There
are also some individuals who have redefined the expectations when it comes to certain sports. For
instance, Babe Ruth redefined the way people think about baseball, or Michael Jordan completely
changing the game of basketball. But Joe Louis and Venus and Serena Williams have changed their
games in a way no one could have imagined. Although Champion of the World by Maya Angelou and
Woman Who Hit Very Hard and How They ve Changed Tennis by Michael Kimmelman are different,
they are similar in the ways they show how the respected athletes, Joe Louis and the Williams sisters,
changed the game and were seen using symbolism in racial and sexual progression. In Champion of
the World Maya Angelou writes about Joe Louis road to success in how he changed boxing for his
race. Angelou writes, This might be the end of the world. If Joe lost we were back in slavery and
beyond help. It would all be true; the accusations that we were lower types of human beings. Only a
little higher than apes. Angelou is trying to convey that if Joe loses this fight, everything white men
think about Negros is true. Joe s people need him to win this fight to prove a point to white people,

Why You Need To Survive Analysis
Well as I know when you enter a new school you need to survive because you need to make new
friends some people are going to talk to you because you don t have friends in the room or in the
school, the hard thing is when you are in lunch and you are alone because you don t have friends to
talk some people are going to sit with you and they are going to talk with you. I know survive is hard
in the new school, because everyone is looking at you, and you don t know everyone, and some people
start making faces to you because you don t have friends in the school. Survive can be hard and easy,
because you need to talk right to the teachers, and to the students, like me, when it was first day in
school i don t know everyone and I don t have friends in the classroom. So i need to survive and make
new friends, and i need to talk right to the teachers, because they get mad when you don t talk right to
them. So it was so hard to me to survive that room because people will ... Show more content on

The Israel-Palestine Conflict
2) Hamas won legislative elections but lost the presidential election and it is the president who
conducts negotiations. The reason was the electorate s disgruntlement with Fatah s corruption. Perhaps
that is also a component of its failure to make peace? ME Public opinion polls among Palestinians
consistently show high levels of support for the two state solution, which averaged 82 87% in 2000
07, while 73 77% favored reconciliation between the two peoples and 66 71% joint economic ventures
between an Israeli and Palestinian state (Dowty, p. 190). At the same time, the majority of Israeli s
supported the two state solution, although 30 40% remained opposed for religious, nationalist or
security reasons. Palestinians supported ongoing attacks against Israel not to overthrow the
government or take over the country and drive out the Jews, or because of irrational hatred of Jews
and Israel, but only because of the continuing military occupation and expansion of settlements. Camp
David didn t fail because of Israel but because according to the most pro Arab primary account (Agha
Malley) Arafat walked out after having said no to everything . At Taba, Arafat ran out the clock on
negotiations. Followed by burning the olive branch extended by Peres at Davos. Later he would refuse
to implement the steps required at the outset of Phase I of the Roadmap to Peace. ME At the Taba

Compare And Contrast The Last Judgement And The Sistine...
Both of the paintings by Michelangelo are excellent examples of Renaissance era art. These two
paintings are the Last Judgment and the Sistine Chapel ceiling. The ceiling was worked on from 1508
to 1512 and shows many themes common throughout Renaissance art. One of the most prominent is
the stunning realism in both pieces. Despite there being hundreds of figures is both pieces each is
extremely realistic. There s a huge stress on the human figure in this painting and they look as though
they could be real people. There s also a fair amount of perspective, although this isn t one of the most
important parts of the paintings.
Another interesting motif is the international influence in the paintings. Even though the paintings
have extremely Catholic origins they have some elements of other cultures. One of the biggest ways
this is shown is in the sibyls that are between some of the scenes. These sibyls have origins from
Africa, Asia, Greece, and Ionia. These paintings also show departure from traditional Catholic values
in some of the symbolism the paintings show. In the center of the ceiling there is a painting of man
and God, yet God is painted inside the shape of the human brain. In ... Show more content on

It is a famous example of Renaissance art showing portraiture, realism, and some perspective. In this
painting there are four distinct characters. Each has a different expression that shows how they are
feeling. There is also more detail in the faces then in any other parts of the painting. Another technique
it demonstrates is heightened realism. Whereas before the Renaissance the figures may have been
painted simply and in only enough detail to get the general idea across, these figures are shown more
realistically. Lastly there is the technique of perspective as shown in the background of the painting.

The Importance Of A Good Life
As a young adult, it is really difficult to define what a good life is. A Good life it s an expression that
is interpreted differently by every individual. However, my humanities class helped me clarify my
thoughts about how the term good life could be defined. A good life is living with ambition and
creating new experiences with the ones you love the most. For me, a good life not only consist of me
reaching my goals but it also lies on helping the people around me to reach their goals. Having the
right values and priorities complement a gratifying life. During this journey, I have learned that
analyzing several situations can lead to a great way of associating ideas and understanding certain
events that take place in my life. Medicine is a very rigorous field of study, therefore I must hold the
concept of a good life in order to achieve my goals and keep my priorities in the right order.
Humanities has been a great base for me to develop the right mindset to pursue my career. For
instance, the modules: The True Purpose of a Liberal Education, Morality and Ethics, Happiness,
Nature, and Life Affirmation, were the ones that made the most significant impact on my perspective
in life. In today s society, people are becoming accustomed to following the popular beliefs instead of
thinking in depth and forming their own opinions. In some cases, it is evident that some individuals
deviate away from the obvious which leads them to become unconsciously ignorant. In

Discovery Of Pulque Essay
The Discovery of Pulque, 1869, by Jose Maria Obregón, this painting is an oil on canvas piece. It was
commissioned by what some may call a renaissance man. He was a play writer, art critique and a poet.
He wanted Obregon to paint this historic scene because he believed that King Tecpancaltzin was one
of his ancestors. King Tecpancaltzin is one of the main subjects in this painting. The main story being
told in this painting is the story of King Tecpancaltzin receiving the first cup of pulque. Looking at the
left side of the painting the viewer can see servants coming into the throne room. One of the woman
servants is holding a cactus which is where the pulque comes from. Below this woman sits another
woman who is carrying the bad that carried the pulque. Continuing right along the painting you see
Xochitl mother holding the jug to pour the pulque. Alongside her mother is Xochitl who is also
standing beside her father. She is also presenting the bowl of pulque to King Tecpancaltzin. Obregon

always enjoyed electronics as a kid, even making computer like projects in the fifth grade. Wozniak
became interested in electronics after he read a book about HAM radios. He built his own radio and
never stopped building his own electronics. He had friends on the street who were also interested in
electronics and they created wired house to house intercoms to communicate with each other in

After realizing this, Wozniak and Jobs met at the Homebrew Computer Club where different engineers
exchanged ideas and inventions. It was here that Wozniak was inspired to design what would
eventually become the Apple I computer. After Woz showed the computer to Steve Jobs he was
amazed by its potential. Jobs wanted to produce the computer and market it as he believed it would be
a commercial success. It was at this time that the Apple Computer Company was officially founded on
April 1, 1976. Other than creating Apple, Wozniak has made other great contributions to technology.
After taking a leave from Apple in 1980, Woz went back to Berkley to earn a degree in computer
science. Due to his participation in the technology field, he has also earned Honorary Doctorates in
Engineering at 11 other universities worldwide. He returned to Apple in 1982 and joined the
development team working on the Apple II. Woz was motivated to work on the Apple II by his desire
to always innovate on his previous inventions, namely the Apple I. While working on the Apple II,
Woz developed a floppy disk system that replaced the cassette systems used by every other personal
computer at the time. Due to tensions within the team, Woz split off and began working on another
project which would eventually be called the Macintosh. The Macintosh had several breakthrough
features, all of which Wozniak had a part in developing. The Macintosh was an all in one

Execution In Early-Modern Europe
Maintenance of power and fear is an essential action by the majority of monarchs and rulers within the
early modern age. Without the populace living within a mental state of worry, and being constantly
agitated by the looming threat of capital punishment, the European continent would not be unified
between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries. This concept of mass horror and tyranny was modelled
around the use of capital punishment, torture, and execution, and through the public action of these
forms of justice, the monarchs and spiritual leaders kept an ability to rule with an iron fist over the
populace of a nation state. However execution was also a public affair and was enjoyed by the masses
to a large extent due to the sense of justice and vengeance it created, and a feeling of freedom from
lawless criminals due to the large punishment awaiting them if citizens were to break the strict and
direct laws of kingdoms. Another aspect of execution was the role of religion and The Roman Catholic
Church in regards to the execution of religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the population through terror and fear, as well as use religion and religious sanction to remove those

society and individuals to a maximum extent. Execution, was a large weapon of terror for European
monarchies, and through this terror monarchs were able to control the population, and execute those
who disturbed internal stability and peace. Executioners were considered by many to be the sole

Dogue De Bordeaux (French Mastiff)
Dogue de Bordeaux (French Mastiff); originally bred as fighting dog but also used in war, hunting and
guarding. There are several theories over the origin and the date the Dogue de Bordeaux came into
existence; some believe the breed to descend from the Greek Molossus (now extinct) or from the
Ancient Roman Mastiff. Others believe they originated in the 14th century in France when English
Kings ruled Aquitaine and are the result of English Mastiffs crossbreeding with large native breeds of
Aquitaine guarding dogs. It is also thought by some that the genes of the Spanish Mastiff were also
crossed in later on to produce a more ferocious look for guarding purposes. The Federation

The Seminole Indian Tribe of Florida is a renowned group in South Florida area. Besides being the
only Federal recognized tribe that has not signed a peace treaty, the Seminoles are known for things as
Chickee Architecture, Billie Swamp Safari, and the Infamous Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
All these groundbreaking and recognized accomplishments were only cable because of the hard work
and dedication from the different tribes that make up the Seminole Nation. That being said, the
Seminoles success was also due to opening of smoke shops and high risk gaming in the 1970

With money, one can choose their own fate to an extent, and even help shape the path for others
around them. I believe that the Seminole Indian tribe is a perfect example of this. Due to their large
success with gaming, they have become a finically independent group that can now better themselves
because of money. Things such as education, health, and preservation of cultural are now enabled due
to the gain of funds from the casinos, but these positives do come with a price. Thanks to financial
freedom, Seminole artist have pursued expanding their knowledge of skills and crafts. This new want
for cultural expansion can be seen as a positive since people can now focus on past crafts and
practices. Unfortunately, due to gaming revenue, people worked on crafts because they no longer have
to work, while others stopped crafts for the same reason. They no longer need to make money, so they
no longer saw a need in making them. This shows that economic freedom was as much as a curse as it
was a blessing. Freedom allows one to choose their own path. The Seminole tribe was able to find
freedom through gaming revenue, and it has had many positives in their tribe. However, freedom can
also make people forgetful of passion and hard work. Not to say that all Native Americans who have
benefitted from tribal funding from things such a gaming revenues are lazy. I believe that the majority
will make the best choice at the end of the day. Hopefully the money earn through gaming does not

Scrooge Symbolism
Based on what I read Scrooge is a grumpy person with no feeling for the people around him. Dickens
doesn t like this and says it is a big no no is his world. Scrooge spends money on only what he needs
to get by. He doesn t get why Christmas is such a big deal, even though everyone else is celebrating it
with cheer. In fact, he hates the Christmas cheer and expresses his feelings. He despises poor people
and say that they should go to jail. He does not have any joy, but he s not depressed. Scrooge almost
wants to damage people s day and does it often. The text says he is a hard worker as it states he was a
tight fisted hand at the grind stone, Scrooge! A squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching,
covetous, old sinner! He can also really stand the elements, the cold., the hot, the rain, the snow, the...
anything. Not only can he withstand the elements, but based on the information from the text I
inferred that he is the elements, resilient and unforgiving.
The text explicitly states that the Spirit is the Ghost of Christmas Past (Scrooge s past), even the spirit
quotes I am the Ghost of Christmas Past in it conversation with Scrooge. First they went to Scrooge s
depressed and disheartened childhood. Immediately after seeing himself, he sobs with bad memories.
Scrooge says I wish ... but it s too late now , the spirit asks his what is the matter , Scrooge says,
Nothing. There was a boy singing a Christmas Carol at my door last night. I should like to have given
him something that s all . This is Scrooge s first time thinking about doing something favorable, after
thinking about his childhood.
Then they go to another one of Scrooge s Christmas breaks spent at school, but in this instance, his
little sister comes to bring him home, she said that their dad finally let little Ebenezer come home for
good. Lastly Scrooge remembers the time he had partied one Christmas and for a few bucks they
made the whole neighborhood of kids happy. Scrooge s fiancee says that he cares too much about
money and not her so she breaks up with him. The ghost then disappears through the floor. Scrooge
wakes up and go to the other room to find lots food. He finds The Ghost of Christmas Present and

Geo Location And Social Media Services
Geo location and social media services are becoming the way of the future online. These services are
redefining the way we find and connect to interests and hobbies. Through the expansion of Geo
location and tagging mobile social media services, user s privacy online will continue to be exposed
without their knowledge and risk being victims to potential criminals.
With the progression and development in GPS and Wi Fi, geo location has become a dominant tool
that can collect information over huge distances. It is purpose is to identify the physical location and
time of a user when they post something on the internet. This helps advertisers and third party
companies to help predict or assume the interest and likes of the user. The more the user uses the
service, the more the service uses the user. Geo location included in devices such as cell phones,
computers, laptops, tablets but many people seem to be unaware. Going online with these devices can
show where someone is, what they are doing and what time they are doing it. Telecommunication
companies and internet providers record the sites and places we visit online to help profile and analyse
the user more efficiently. Cell phones have become so common for social media use that users are
willing to risk their privacy to have access to their social media sites or in most cases the user is
oblivious that their information is being taken from them. This gives rise to the fear of potential big

This article takes the international trade policy as the main research object, and carries on the key
research and the analysis to the performance effectiveness in the scope of this article. First it briefly
introduces the regional and global trade agreements that I will examine. Then list the member nations,
how the trade group formed, and the reasoning behind the agreement historically, politically, and

Introduction
I. Global Economic Organization WTO defined.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) is an international organization because of the benefits from the
mutually binding commitments. Countries join the international system and sign the international
trade agreement for the mutual benefit of all. This desire to work with other countries encourages the
country to sign the international agreement which regulates trade practices, and ultimately maintains
compliance with the policies of international trade. WTO was found in 1995, and took the place of the
GATT. In 2015, Kazakhstan became the 162th member.

Is Scrooge A Selfish Person
Even though Scrooge was selfish at the beginning he still should deserve a second chance. In the
Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, a protagonist named Scrooge, was a selfish and mean person but
then he changes throughout the story. I describe him as selfish, unfriendly, and a kind person. The
reason why I described him as a selfish person is because he didn t give money to the poors and
thought they were scumbags. The second reason why I called Scrooge a unfriendly person is because
he didn t want to go to his nephew s dinner and he doesn t say kind things to people. The last reason
why I think Scrooge is a kind person is because at the end he gave money to the poors and felt sorry
for Tiny Tim. Scrooge does change from being selfish and unfriendly person to a kind person in the
end.
First, Scrooge is a selfish person and he only cares about himself. On page 256 Scrooge says, I wish to
be left alone. Since you ask me what I wish, sir, that is my answer. I don t make merry myself at
Christmas, and I can t afford to make idle people merry. This shows how Scrooge doesn t want to help
the poors which means he only cares about himself. On page 264 Belle says, We have never lied to
one another. May you be happy in the life you have chosen. This describes how he didn t care about
Belle or his girlfriend and only cared about his money. On page 268 Scrooge says, You are the third.

27 November 2014
Introduction
In this project, one looks at a successful social media campaign. The ALS ice bucket challenge is an
example of a successful campaign that brought millions in donations and thousands of participants.
Using the Dragonfly Effect, the campaign will be analyzed and then recommendations would be
uncovered.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was started by two people, former baseball player Pete Frates, and
Pete Quinn from Yonkers, New York. Both are afflicted with ALS. ALS stands for Amyotrophic lateral
sclerosis or better known as Lou Gehrig s disease (Friedman Friedman, 2014). By July 2014, this
marketing plan had gone viral. The challenge involved declining the act and paying $100 to charity for

In the bucket challenge, the use of celebrities and the related philanthropy of playing along with a
humorous event can induce others to do the same and also donate more. It is like enlisting a group of
evangelists. The act must also be easy to understand and perform. It must be immediately actionable
since most people are not going to participate if it is difficult or dangerous.
One of the most important principles in the dragonfly effect is fun. The bucket challenge must be fun
if one wants to keep the involvement of the masses. Besides that, tailored acts that tap into people s
unique advantage can help spread the campaign. The audience must feel that the bucket challenge
makes them special and part of a larger cause. The act cannot be too difficult or too improper or
people especially celebrities would not participate. Finally the act must be open and no permission or
authority is involved (Aaker, Smith Adler, 2010). Anyone with a bucket, ice and smartphone can do

Emily Dickinson Essay example
Emily Dickinson, recognized as one of the greatest American poets of the nineteenth century, was
born December 10, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts (Benfey, 1). Dickinson s greatness and
accomplishments were not always recognized. In her time, women were not recognized as serious
writers and her talents were often ignored. Only seven of her 1800 poems were ever published.
Dickinson s life was relatively simple, but behind the scenes she worked as a creative and talented
poet. Her work was influenced by poets of the seventeenth century in England, and by her puritan
upbringing. Dickinson was an obsessively private writer. Dickinson withdrew herself from the social
contract around the age of thirty and devoted herself, in secret, to writing. ... Show more content on

Only five poems can be dated prior to 1858, the year in which she began gathering her work into hand
written copies bound loosely with thread to make small packets called ?????. She sent these fives early
poems to friends in letters or as valentines. One of them was published anonymously without her
permission in the Springfield Republican in 1852 ( ). This was the first time any of Emily s writings
were published. After 1858, she apparently convinced herself that she had a genuine talent, because
now, the packets were carefully stored in an ebony box probably awaiting discovery by future readers
or publishers. Perhaps Emily knew that her writing was too far advanced for her time and that her
accomplishments would be recognized and given the recognition that they deserved in the future.
Publication remained a considerable conflict throughout her writing. A publisher for her writing was
never easily arranged. She befriended Samuel Bowles, the editor of the Republican and for four years
sent him poems and letters for publication. Because Bowles did not comprehend Dickinson s poems
only two were published, and even those were published anonymously. Both poems were heavily
edited and given titles that she had not given or was not aware of. Only five other poems were
published in her lifetime, each altered by editors.
In 1862 Dickinson turned to the literary critic Thomas Wentworth Higginson for advice about her
poems. She had known him only through his essays in the

chances are that you mentally answered your question by saying that the company read your mind and
was fulfilling your desire to lose weight while still indulging in your favorite beverage. However, the
relationship between you and the food giants is quite the opposite. What you think is healthy or
unhealthy is based on research funded by companies that profit off of your food choices, currently,
much of the research regarding health and weight loss is funded by companies such as Coca Cola and
Kellogg therefore therefore, you are the one fulfilling their desire (CBS, 2015).
The idea that large companies and the media dictate our daily lives has slowly become common
knowledge. Therefore, one must be cautious in regards of the sources he or she trusts. For instance,
Steve Blair, who conducts research that supports the idea that obesity in America is due to lack of
physical activity as opposed to calorie consumption has much of his research funded by Coca Cola, a
company which is largely known for its calorie packed drinks and snacks. Moreover, while Blair s
research might be supported by relevant data, so was the research that justified smoking. Nonetheless,
the way data is analyzed can be extremely biased based on who is paying for the collection and
analysis of such data (Freedhoff, 2015).
The increase in the obese population is both an opportunity and a liability to

Hazing In Cyberbullying
The internet and the increase in social media use have created a whole new dimension to bullying and
hazing. While cyber bullying is relatively young in comparison to bullying and hazing, it is no less
vicious in nature, and like the Internet, it continues to evolve over time ( National , n.d., p. 1). Policies
and procedures need to be continually updated as technology and the way students communicate
rapidly change. There are countless examples of social media used to bully students. In a case in Iowa,
Kiana Phelps was cyber bullied because of her success in track (Naughton, 2016). According to
Naughton (2016), jealous students posted Social media photos of her working out accompanied with
rude and sarcastic comments. The students went so far as to claim online that Phelps only gets
attention because her older sister had died of anorexia (Naughton, 2016). Obviously, this situation
became personal and very hurtful for Phelps but the school board did not take any action (Naughton,
2016). Another bully case started in a high school locker room. According to the victim, Sophia Dama,
Victoria Neuman, took cell phone videos of two of the girls, Brianna Kopp and Jenifer Kempka,
sitting on the toilet. Sophia Dama later told her father that Neuman took a picture of her dressing in a
stall (Richmond, 2016). According to sources, Neuman also recorded a teammate put her bare butt on
Sophia s head (Richmond, 2016). The three girls involved in the creating the videos were

The Problem Of Deaf Culture
Deaf culture is a way to start this essay. Most people, when they think of deafness, assume that it is
nothing more than a disability. This is erroneous because defining what deaf really means, means
looking past the definition and looking into the heart of a deaf person, to see equality among us all.
Equality among humans isn t controversial, but what is? Cochlear Implantation is controversial.
Inserting an internal disruption of the deaf culture is controversial. Placing an electronic device in
your children s ears because you want them to talk like a normal child is controversial. After having a
very rigorous debate about CI s in my ASL class, I came to the conclusion that out of 30 students,
more than half of them would choose implantation of their young fragile, pure child. Being deaf is
way more than just being able to hear, being deaf is a gift; a family within a family, and implanting a
child a child under your circumstances only shreds the wrapping paper off that gift. Lets jump right
into the positive facts of cochlear implants, because there isn t many. in a very descriptive and
informational article by Ron Kotulak, he mentions that, The implant significantly improve the hearing
of adults in conjunction with speech reading. Benefits have also been observed in children as young as
two. So, it is an unbiased fact that, in some cases, Cochlear Implantation is highly effective and serves
as a great purpose for the treatment of hearing loss. The FDA, Food and

Episthropology, And Epistemology
Research Philosophies
There are two main subdivisions of research philosophies; ontological and epistemological research
philosophies. Ontology involves using a nature perspective to establish how things work. On the other
hand, epistemology involves assessing the interaction between the knowledge of the inquirer and the
research (Saunders, Lewis, Thornhill, 2009). The nature of reality can thus be determined by
reviewing the four primary research philosophies that are based on epistemology and ontology.
The four primary research philosophies include pragmatism, realism, positivism, and interpretivism.
An ontology based on positivism assumes that social factors have no impact on the nature and
objectives of reality. According to the ontology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, researchers use information that is already available and accessible to the public. Such
information is retrieved from governmental institutions, companies, and other researchers (Kumar,
2010). As such, there are various benefits that researchers gain for using this approach. One of such is
that it is cheaper than primary research. Secondly, secondary researches and their findings are readily
available in various sources. As such, they take a shorter time to conduct and complete than primary
research studies. Thirdly, they are a source of information that is used in clarification of various issues
in the study. This leads to proper development of information in the study. Finally, the initial sourced
analyze the various types of research methodologies. Thus, the researcher using secondary research
does not dig into such details. However, the approach has various disadvantages. For instance,
sometimes the research questions and the data lack coherence. This is contrary to the primary research
that establishes data that is tailored to respond to particular questions (Boyle Schmierbach, 2015). It
also has a high degree or error propagation. Errors that were incurred in the initial research are
translated into the current research. Another weakness is that some data may be outdated and thus
unsuitable for use in current studies. Consumer behaviors and attitudes change from time to time, on a

Food Preservatives
Introduction
A preservative is a naturally occurring or synthetically produced substance that is added to products
such as foods, pharmaceuticals, paints, biological samples, wood, etc. to prevent decomposition by
microbial growth or by undesirable chemical changes. All food products except for the one growing in
our kitchen garden have food preservatives in them. Every manufacturer adds food preservatives to
the food during processing. The purpose is generally to avoid spoilage during the transportation time.
Food is very important for the survival, so food preservation is one of the oldest techniques used by
human beings to avoid its spoilage. Different ways and means have been found and improved for the
purpose. Boiling, freezing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compass And Straightedge
Compass and Straightedge: Basic Constructions and Limitations In Euclid s Elements, Book 1, the
very first proposition states, To construct an equilateral triangle on a given finite straight line.
(Heiberg, Fitzpatrick, Euclid, pg 8) This proposition is saying that it is possible to construct an
equilateral triangle from a given segment. Euclid was able to perform this construction with just a
straightedge and compass. As The Elements was published in 300 BC (Heiberg, Fitzpatrick, Euclid, pg
4) only the most basic tools had been invented. The straightedge Euclid used the Euclidean ruler, used
only the draw the straight line through any two points (Martin, pg 6). There were no markings on the
straightedge, unlike modern rulers. The compass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With modern tools such as a protractor and marked ruler, this question is easy to do. However, it is
more difficult with only a straightedge and compass. For thousands of years people tried to solve this
problem and either ended up with an inexact construction or they had to use other tools than the
Euclidean tools. Finally in 1837 Pierre Laurent Wantzel, a French mathematicians, solved the problem
(Major, Jost, pg 81). It turns out that in general it is impossible to trisect any angle, but there are cases,
for example 90 degrees and 180 degrees, that can be trisected with a straightedge and compass
(Courant, Robbins, pg 147). The degrees that can be trisected come from the n gons that are
constructible from a compass and straightedge. An example of this is an equilateral triangle. The
angles are 60 degrees, which is a third of 180 degrees. But in general, most angles cannot be trisected.
To prove that in general it is impossible to trisect an angle, it suffices to show that one angle cannot be
trisected. For example take an angle of 60 degrees. Let the angle be denoted by ϴ and cosϴ = y. Need
to find x = cos(ϴ/3). Cosine of ϴ/3 is connected to cosϴ=y=4〖cos〗^3(ϴ/3) 3cos(ϴ/3) Thus
trisecting an angle with cosϴ = y comes to 〖4z〗^3 3z y=0. Then take ϴ =60 degrees, and y =
cos(60) = 1/2. Thus 〖8z〗^3 6z= 0. There is no rational number that satisfies z, thus the general
holds, and it is impossible to trisect an angle (Courant, Robbins, pg

Rikki Tikki Tavi is a short story by Rudyard Kipling. It is about a small mongoose named Rikki Tikki,
who is washed away from his family in a small flood. He lives in a bungalow with a small family, and
Rikki must fight the cobras threatening the family to keep them safe. This essay will prove how Rikki
Tikki Tavi is confident, determined, and very stealth like.
To start, Rikki showed that he was confident by proving to Nagaina that it was him that killed her
husband Nag, not the man. Rikki also shows that is confident when he says this to Nagaina, Come
then, Nagaina. Come and fight with me. You shall not be a widow long. (25)
Rikki shows pure confidence when he fights Nagaina because he will not think to low of himself.

Abstract
The strength of Harley Davidson s brand and dominant market position give the firm a wide moat, in

The firm has already cut production in an attempt to trim costs in line with faling demand. in addition,
just over half of Harley s motorcycle revenues are derived from retail sales made on credit. We think
that the lack of available funds on the wholesale markets and the shrinking of the number of
qualifying customers will make it difficult for the company s financial services division to continue to
support retail sales by providing credit to customers.
Harley must address some long term challenges. The firm has been focused on a narrow demographic
group (around 89% of customers are male) and the median age of Harley s customers has been on a
long term upward trend.
We believe that the firm must find ways to broaden the appeal of its brand without alienating its core
customer base. Harley has grown in recent years in the international market , and revenues generated
abroad have risen to 25% of total revenues in 2007 from 19% in 2004. Although the firm has recently
introduced a performance motorcycle for the European market, I think that it may find it difficult to
deliver customized products for overseas markets while supporting its brand franchise.

Harley s revenues could be severely hurt by a further weakening of the global economy and increased
reductions in consumer spending on high ticket discretionary items,

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
Overview This document describes the manner in which Vendor Oversight assigns tiers to Pacific
Union Financial ( PUF or the Firm ) vendors and manages vendors accordingly to facilitate due
diligence, maintenance and compliance with Firm, state, and Federal requirements. Background The
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ) is tasked with writing and enforcing rules for
financial entities to protect consumers from unfair, deceptive or otherwise harmful practices by such
entities. A major area of focus for the CFPB is a robust and effective oversight of a financial
institution s third party providers (vendors) to ensure consumers are not exposed to unnecessary risk
of financial or personal harm. The CFPB has not issued specific rules outlining how a financial
institution must oversee its vendors; however, they have provided guidelines which outline the areas
that such institutions should consider in their oversight program. Among these, establishing internal
controls and on going monitoring to determine whether the service provider is complying with Federal
consumer financial law is specifically stated as an expectation of the CFPB for financial institutions
towards their third party providers. Procedure Vendor Oversight has developed and maintains a robust
third party oversight program to efficiently and effectively source, vet, onboard and continually
evaluate the performance of PUF third party providers. As part of this process, each vendor is assigned

Ethics In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
During this presentation we will explore some of the key morals and ethics of medical science
presented in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein.
On January 1st 2018 the tale of Frankenstein will have been around for 200 years. However, his
legacy, as we know, will continue almost indefinitely. Ironically, achieving what Victor Frankenstein
was unable, physically, to do: preserve life.
Mary Shelley s novel has fascinated millions for its many controversial topics, the most intriguing and
debate inducing, being the moral questions that it presents.
By many, Mary Shelley s Frankenstein can be seen as a warning towards any new type of scientific
research being developed. For myself, and many others, it is not only this but a book of morals to

Doctor David B. Resnik generally describes these basic rules in his online article: What is Ethics in
Research Why is it Important? . Out of the 16 rules stated Frankenstein breaks 7: honesty, carefulness,
openness, social responsibility, legality, animal care and most noticeably human subjects protection.
Dr. Resnik describes Human Subjects Protection as: minimize harms and risks and maximize benefits;
respect human dignity, privacy, and autonomy; take special precautions with vulnerable populations .
As we know this is not what happens. Due to, what I believe to be, Victor s God Complex he takes it
upon himself to create an entirely new species (Shelley, 44) and in doing so maximises the harms and
risks to his human and animal communities, as he is unaware of the nature of his creation or what
dangerous power it could possess. Not only this but by creating his monster he makes it vulnerable to
the world it is born into as it was made as a solitary creature, with no special precautions taken to
protect it. As well as this, the process of Victor s scientific experiment completely disregards any ideas
of respecting human dignity, privacy, and autonomy as he, in his own words, collected bones from
charnel houses, and disturbed, with profane fingers, the tremendous secrets of the human frame

Manual Transmissions In Classics
Automatic and Manual Transmissions in Classics
Some could argue that there is nothing that compares to downshifting into a tight corner and shifting
up while accelerating on the way out of it. We would argue that the only thing potentially better, is
doing so in a classic sports car.
While it s true that automatic transmissions were made with the idea of promoting pure driving
enjoyment, without the worry of complicating the experience to 3 pedals and RPMs. The question we
re looking at is if there is actually anything you have to know if you have a manual transmission
versus an automatic transmission in your classic (or if you re looking for a classic)?

You have the benefit of being able to drive and really enjoy the vehicle without any hassle.
Manuals are as the name implies, manually controlled transmissions. These transmissions rely on the
driver s ability to best control how the car behaves. This also means that should the driver not be
experienced, they could be doing more bad than good. Meaning they could be causing damage or
require more maintenance on a whole.
We ve found that those who tend to seek out manual classics are looking more for the sport or muscle
classics to get the most out of their power.
This being said, if you re comfortable and confident with your ability to drive a stick, either option
should work for you. After all, there are endless beauties on both sides of the fence and we don t see
anyone saying no to a gorgeous classic convertible because of a transmission. Well... maybe.
Traditionally, manuals are known to be more fuel efficient. Some also say that manual cars tend to be
safer as well, as the driver is more engaged with the vehicle, requiring more concentration. This in
turn means less idle time for the brain to become

1 Choose three basic needs and give a personal example of how you use communication to fulfill each
of the needs. (Chapter 1)
Three basic needs include affection, inclusion and control following which Maslow has proposed his
hierarchy of needs.
First, Physiological needs which include food, water and oxygen. In order to buy food and water, I
have to communicate with grocery store s manager and clerks, I have to communicate with cashiers to
pay for my shopping. Also, I need to go to the doctor s office regularly to check my health. I have to
communicate with the secretary to book an appointment, talk to the nurses about my concerns and
finally talk to the doctor about my problem. Moreover, I may need to go to the lab for some blood
tests or do the ultrasounds. They all need communication with staffs, doctors as well as
communicating with pharmacy assistants or pharmacist to get my medications.
Second, safety needs which include comfort, security, freedom from fear, freedom from violence. For
example, once there was a rubbery from our locker. So we informed the security guard of our condo
and after filling the report form, we called the police so that they could find the thief.
Finally, belongingness and love needs which include affiliation, acceptance and belongingness. For

Love Exposed In James Baldwin s If Beale Street Could Talk
A world full of hatred, lies, and discrimination can make life a bit
unbearable. Nevertheless, as it is demonstrated in If Beale Street Could Talk , by James
Baldwin, if one possesses the power of love one can withstand almost anything that comes his or

parental and even human love. If someone has love from all three sources, then the
world wouldn t seem as bad as people make it out to be.

who eventually became close with Tish s family. He tried everything in his power to

released on bail after multiple family members took on extra jobs, and his father began stealing
goods from work to sell. Once Fonny was released everyone thought everything could go back to
normal; but they were mistaken. The only question left to ask, would Fonny be proven innocent
or guilty?
While Tish was down and all hope was lost, it was love that helped her overcome
adversity. For example having her father s love and support the entire time. She recalls him
saying to her,
Get that baby here, safe and sound. We ll get Fonny out of jail. I promise. (Baldwin 134)
Also the memories of Fonny kept her going. Fonny was always there for her, to love her, to

Have you ever found yourself wondering where your money has gone, or nor remembering what you
spent your money on? A monthly cash budget benefits both businesses and everyday life. A monthly
cash budget helps businesses estimate their incoming monthly income, and how much their monthly
expenses will be. The preparation of a monthly cash budget allows companies to be better prepared
when it comes to their business cash flow and taxes. If a company is in the market to borrow money or
obtaining financing, the bank requires pro forma financial statements, specifically the balance sheet
(Conrad, n.d.). The creation of a monthly cash budget aids in the preparation of important pro forma
documents, making a monthly cash budget important to running a successful business. A monthly cash

Ancient Roman Art Of Entertainment
Ancient Roman Entertainment The art of entertainment held many significant influences within the
Ancient Roman society. Though it is known that certain means to achieve such spectacles were
vicious and cruel, it ultimately satisfied the Roman peoples need for pleasure and excitement. Public
displays varied from chariot races, musical and theatrical performances, to the more gruesome acts of
wild beast hunts, gladiatorial games, and public executions. Most of the Romans daily leisure
activities still remain in the realm of common recreational activities we still perform today, such as
swimming, hunting, fishing, and even gambling. While the inner city state provided nearly all public
entertainment events, citizens held their own interpretations beyond the outer city territories. Every
distinguishable form of entertainment within the society held distinct and important influences
throughout the ancient Roman culture, regardless of how they were formed or who cultivated them.
Displays of mass public entertainment took on a number of different forms, from festivals such as ludi
Megalenses, ludi Ceriales, to ludi Circenses, (chariot racing in the circus) Venationes (games with
animals, also in the circus, but later they took place in the amphitheater as well) and theatrical
performances, ludi Scaenici (Potter and Mattingly, 206). Although the games were religious in origin,
they gradually acquired secular and political importance, becoming more prominent as the annual

Family Systems Theory Of Hope
Research
There has been much research surrounding hope as a theory, form of treatment, and its application in
both psychotherapy and health industries. In his research Snyder was able to corroborate his
hypothesis that people are likely to think in terms of goals and are constantly finding and refining way
to accomplish those goals (2002). Participants also often spoke about the connection between those
pathways and their motivations. Snyder found that hope was a form of motivation for goal attainment,
and was directly related to positive outcome measured by the degree of hopefulness or a hope scale
(2002). He concluded that hope is a primary way of thinking and emotions played a lesser secondary
role. Collective research shows that the degree of hopefulness is also related to the probability and
proximity of goal attainment. Those with short or intermediate goals typically show higher levels of
hope than those with long term or seemingly impossible targets. Additionally, those who consistently
practice high hopefulness would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea is that organisms are complex systems in and of themselves and must be understood as such
(Boss, Doherty, LaRossa, Schumm, Steinmetz, 1993). Like those systems, families are complex with
multiple components that interact and influence each other. In this way, researchers and clinicians seek
to explain the connectedness, behaviors, interactions, and interdependence of the whole rather than
just focusing on the individual parts. Understanding the family system requires taking a holistic
approach to pathology and treatment. Systems thinking is a way of examining how changes in one
component effects other parts of the system and back, in a cyclic comprehensive manner. Ultimately,
family system theory seeks to identify the complexities of the family and the underlying factors that
drive and are influenced by family

The Polynesians are taught some religions when growing up like the gods in Hawaii, which they
believed to contain sacred called mana. Relationships within Polynesia are not to have casual sexual
interactions with each other until married or required to have a baby. Some men would be chosen by
the gods of mana to be able to do tattooing. The gods of mana can be evil, good, animals, individuals
and or objects. Gods are called Deity s which are above all and have different names for example,
Haumla, Kamapua a, Kane, Ku and Lono. There are many examples of traditional teachings taught to
the youth in the country. One of them is to get high school students in a one man and two man canoe,
which they then have to paddle for 100 miles along Hawaii s coastline. This tests them to see if they

The Causes And Effects Of Propaganda During World War II
What is propaganda? Propaganda is the spreading of ideas information or rumors spread deliberately
to further one s cause or to damage an opposing cause. This concept can be really profitable and
influential when utilized towards a community of people. It becomes even more efficient when it s
employed in community filled with uncertainty. Before World War ll had begun most of Europe and
Asia was going through a period of uncertainty with new ideas and new dictatorship for
example, fascism, which had risen during the nineteenth century. In continuation, in the novel Making
sense of Tyranny states Accordingly there was little sense of that uncertainty and instability that
characterizes life in the classical dictatorship. (Simon Tormey). The quote documents how one of
logical reason that dictatorship is displayed is when uncertainty takes place. In addition of uncertainty,
the Great Depression was arising in the early 1900s, this gives another bulge of uncertainty. Moreover,
uncertainty leads to more citizens believing anything and everything being said by anyone even if it s
true or not which is the supremacy to efficacious propaganda. Now, during time of war the concept of
propaganda can be highly beneficial. Propaganda was highly authenticate during World War II, it
played a major contribution to war, and it s still in critical use till this day. So was propaganda the
weapon that killed six million jews, and can genocide happen again? Propaganda

Normal Business Contracts
As in normal business contracts, offer should be first existing between two parties alongside the
acceptance. Offer is accepting the terms of negotiation and discussion after an invitation to treat. The
external look of an offer and invitation of treat sometimes look the same and hard to differentiate but
different by the core means of commercial law. So what is difference between offer and invitation of
treat? As Guenter Heinz Treitel defines offer as an expression of willingness to contract on certain
terms, made with the intention that it shall become binding as soon as it is accepted by the person to
whom it is addressed, the offeree 1. It is a statement of terms and conditions of that will be passed to
the offeree. It might be passed through letters, newspaper and advertisement. While Andrew Burrows
defines the invitation of treat as an expression of willingness to negotiate. A person making an
invitation of treats does not intend to bind as soon as it is acceptable by the person to whom the
statement is addressed 2 The difference between an offer and invitation of treat is that if offeree
accepts an offer from the offerer, both created a bound of contract while if supplier accepts an
invitation of treat from the client to negotiate and discuss terms they created an offer. So the difference
is between both subjects is the legal binds of contract formation. It depends also solely on the
promisor s intention. Among the history, several case studies prove

Emotional Intelligence, Emotion And Social Work
Emotional Intelligence: Relevance to Social Work
Introduction
In the article Emotional intelligence, emotion and social work , the author Morrison (2007), stated
emotional intelligence (EI) is the missing ingredient that separate the average from top management or
performance (p1). Demonstrating a level of emotional competence in social work will a help a social
worker to perform at a higher success level in the quality work they do or in the information they
collect from someone who is seeking help than a social worker who lacks emotional competence.
They have the ability to make a positive impact above and beyond their competent colleagues
(Morrison, p3). As cited by Morrison (2007), Salovey and Mayer (1990) was first to come with ...

Morrison (2007) believed that it is important for social workers to exhibit emotional intelligence
because it sets them apart from others that lacks the trait; displaying a level of unconscious
competence, expertise and effortlessness (p3). He talked about four different domains that the EI
model measures. According to the article, there are two interpersonal and two intrapersonal domains.
The interpersonal domain gives a measure of self awareness and self management skills, while the
intra personal domain measures empathy and relationship skills (Morrison, p7). It is great for social
workers to be in tune with their own emotions and learn how to cope with their lives in order to make
a difference in a client s life. Morrison (2007) also stated that having an understanding and handling
one s own and other s emotions is a critical aspect at every stage of the social work task: engagement,
assessment, observation, decision making, planning and intervention (p15).
The second article, Impact of a College Freshman Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum on
Student Learning Outcomes was a study constructed by various widener professors, Wang et al.
(2007), investigating the impact of implementing a social and emotional learning curriculum for
college freshman on student learning outcomes, including social and emotional competence and
academic performance (p1). Based on the findings of Wang et al. (2012), they concluded that

Gonorrhoea Case Studies
3.3.9 Sample Size For both nested case control studies, no sample size calculation was performed. T
minimize case selection bias, Merrill and Timmreck (2006) recommended whenever possible,
including diagnosed cases if these are available. Following this recommendation, all newly chlamydia
and gonorrhoea cases identified from their respective study cohorts were selected for analysis. For the
chlamydia study, the sample size was 37,419 chlamydia cases and 374,419 aged matched controls.
Whereas for the gonorrhoea study, the sample size was 4,987 gonorrhoea cases and 49,870 aged

definition of repeat gonorrhoea diagnosis, the study variables extracted from the DMSS and the

corrected models were presented: the Andersen Gill and Prentice Williams Peterson with gap time.
The Andersen Gill model assumes that repeat events are independent observations. In contrast, the
Prentice Williams Peterson model considers that the first repeat event influences the occurrence of a
subsequent repeat event. Both regression models were used to determine the effect of demographic

  • 2. Analysis Of Champion Of The World By Maya Angelou Symbolism and Change in Sports Throughout the years, sports have become a major part of society. Sports, a large percentage of the time, are a part of peoples lives in one way or another. Whether they participate in them or just enjoy watching them, sports are a big deal to the majority of people. There are also some individuals who have redefined the expectations when it comes to certain sports. For instance, Babe Ruth redefined the way people think about baseball, or Michael Jordan completely changing the game of basketball. But Joe Louis and Venus and Serena Williams have changed their games in a way no one could have imagined. Although Champion of the World by Maya Angelou and Woman Who Hit Very Hard and How They ve Changed Tennis by Michael Kimmelman are different, they are similar in the ways they show how the respected athletes, Joe Louis and the Williams sisters, changed the game and were seen using symbolism in racial and sexual progression. In Champion of the World Maya Angelou writes about Joe Louis road to success in how he changed boxing for his race. Angelou writes, This might be the end of the world. If Joe lost we were back in slavery and beyond help. It would all be true; the accusations that we were lower types of human beings. Only a little higher than apes. Angelou is trying to convey that if Joe loses this fight, everything white men think about Negros is true. Joe s people need him to win this fight to prove a point to white people, and ... Why You Need To Survive Analysis Well as I know when you enter a new school you need to survive because you need to make new friends some people are going to talk to you because you don t have friends in the room or in the school, the hard thing is when you are in lunch and you are alone because you don t have friends to talk some people are going to sit with you and they are going to talk with you. The reason was the electorate s disgruntlement with Fatah s corruption. Perhaps that is also a component of its failure to make peace? ME Public opinion polls among Palestinians consistently show high levels of support for the two state solution, which averaged 82 87% in 2000 07, while 73 77% favored reconciliation between the two peoples and 66 71% joint economic ventures between an Israeli and Palestinian state (Dowty, p. 190). At the same time, the majority of Israeli s supported the two state solution, although 30 40% remained opposed for religious, nationalist or security reasons. Palestinians supported ongoing attacks against Israel not to overthrow the government or take over the country and drive out the Jews, or because of irrational hatred of Jews and Israel, but only because of the continuing military occupation and expansion of settlements. Camp David didn t fail because of Israel but because according to the most pro Arab primary account (Agha Malley) Arafat walked out after having said no to everything . At Taba, Arafat ran out the clock on negotiations. Followed by burning the olive branch extended by Peres at Davos. • 5. Compare And Contrast The Last Judgement And The Sistine... Both of the paintings by Michelangelo are excellent examples of Renaissance era art. These two paintings are the Last Judgment and the Sistine Chapel ceiling. The ceiling was worked on from 1508 to 1512 and shows many themes common throughout Renaissance art. One of the most prominent is the stunning realism in both pieces. Despite there being hundreds of figures is both pieces each is extremely realistic. There s a huge stress on the human figure in this painting and they look as though they could be real people. There s also a fair amount of perspective, although this isn t one of the most important parts of the paintings. Another interesting motif is the international influence in the paintings. Even though the paintings have extremely Catholic origins they have some elements of other cultures. One of the biggest ways this is shown is in the sibyls that are between some of the scenes. These sibyls have origins from Africa, Asia, Greece, and Ionia. These paintings also show departure from traditional Catholic values in some of the symbolism the paintings show. In the center of the ceiling there is a painting of man and God, yet God is painted inside the shape of the human brain. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another technique it demonstrates is heightened realism. Whereas before the Renaissance the figures may have been painted simply and in only enough detail to get the general idea across, these figures are shown more realistically. • 10. Execution In Early-Modern Europe Maintenance of power and fear is an essential action by the majority of monarchs and rulers within the early modern age. Without the populace living within a mental state of worry, and being constantly agitated by the looming threat of capital punishment, the European continent would not be unified between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries. This concept of mass horror and tyranny was modelled around the use of capital punishment, torture, and execution, and through the public action of these forms of justice, the monarchs and spiritual leaders kept an ability to rule with an iron fist over the populace of a nation state. However execution was also a public affair and was enjoyed by the masses to a large extent due to the sense of justice and vengeance it created, and a feeling of freedom from lawless criminals due to the large punishment awaiting them if citizens were to break the strict and direct laws of kingdoms. Due to their large success with gaming, they have become a finically independent group that can now better themselves because of money. Things such as education, health, and preservation of cultural are now enabled due to the gain of funds from the casinos, but these positives do come with a price. Thanks to financial freedom, Seminole artist have pursued expanding their knowledge of skills and crafts. This new want for cultural expansion can be seen as a positive since people can now focus on past crafts and practices. Unfortunately, due to gaming revenue, people worked on crafts because they no longer have to work, while others stopped crafts for the same reason. They no longer need to make money, so they no longer saw a need in making them. This shows that economic freedom was as much as a curse as it was a blessing. Freedom allows one to choose their own path. The Seminole tribe was able to find freedom through gaming revenue, and it has had many positives in their tribe. However, freedom can also make people forgetful of passion and hard work. Not to say that all Native Americans who have benefitted from tribal funding from things such a gaming revenues are lazy. Scrooge spends money on only what he needs to get by. He doesn t get why Christmas is such a big deal, even though everyone else is celebrating it with cheer. In fact, he hates the Christmas cheer and expresses his feelings. He despises poor people and say that they should go to jail. He does not have any joy, but he s not depressed. Scrooge almost wants to damage people s day and does it often. The text says he is a hard worker as it states he was a tight fisted hand at the grind stone, Scrooge! A squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner! He can also really stand the elements, the cold., the hot, the rain, the snow, the... anything. Not only can he withstand the elements, but based on the information from the text I inferred that he is the elements, resilient and unforgiving. The text explicitly states that the Spirit is the Ghost of Christmas Past (Scrooge s past), even the spirit quotes I am the Ghost of Christmas Past in it conversation with Scrooge. First they went to Scrooge s depressed and disheartened childhood. Immediately after seeing himself, he sobs with bad memories. Scrooge says I wish ... but it s too late now , the spirit asks his what is the matter , Scrooge says, Nothing. There was a boy singing a Christmas Carol at my door last night. Then they go to another one of Scrooge s Christmas breaks spent at school, but in this instance, his little sister comes to bring him home, she said that their dad finally let little Ebenezer come home for good. Lastly Scrooge remembers the time he had partied one Christmas and for a few bucks they made the whole neighborhood of kids happy. In the Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, a protagonist named Scrooge, was a selfish and mean person but then he changes throughout the story. I describe him as selfish, unfriendly, and a kind person. The reason why I described him as a selfish person is because he didn t give money to the poors and thought they were scumbags. The second reason why I called Scrooge a unfriendly person is because he didn t want to go to his nephew s dinner and he doesn t say kind things to people. The last reason why I think Scrooge is a kind person is because at the end he gave money to the poors and felt sorry for Tiny Tim. Scrooge does change from being selfish and unfriendly person to a kind person in the end. First, Scrooge is a selfish person and he only cares about himself. The bucket challenge must be fun if one wants to keep the involvement of the masses. Besides that, tailored acts that tap into people s unique advantage can help spread the campaign. The audience must feel that the bucket challenge makes them special and part of a larger cause. The act cannot be too difficult or too improper or people especially celebrities would not participate. • 20. Emily Dickinson Essay example Emily Dickinson, recognized as one of the greatest American poets of the nineteenth century, was born December 10, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts (Benfey, 1). Dickinson s greatness and accomplishments were not always recognized. In her time, women were not recognized as serious writers and her talents were often ignored. Only seven of her 1800 poems were ever published. Dickinson s life was relatively simple, but behind the scenes she worked as a creative and talented poet. Her work was influenced by poets of the seventeenth century in England, and by her puritan upbringing. Dickinson was an obsessively private writer. Dickinson withdrew herself from the social contract around the age of thirty and devoted herself, in secret, to writing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only five poems can be dated prior to 1858, the year in which she began gathering her work into hand written copies bound loosely with thread to make small packets called ?????. She sent these fives early poems to friends in letters or as valentines. One of them was published anonymously without her permission in the Springfield Republican in 1852 ( ). This was the first time any of Emily s writings were published. After 1858, she apparently convinced herself that she had a genuine talent, because now, the packets were carefully stored in an ebony box probably awaiting discovery by future readers or publishers. Perhaps Emily knew that her writing was too far advanced for her time and that her accomplishments would be recognized and given the recognition that they deserved in the future. Publication remained a considerable conflict throughout her writing. A publisher for her writing was never easily arranged. She befriended Samuel Bowles, the editor of the Republican and for four years sent him poems and letters for publication. Because Bowles did not comprehend Dickinson s poems only two were published, and even those were published anonymously. Both poems were heavily edited and given titles that she had not given or was not aware of. Only five other poems were published in her lifetime, each altered by editors. In 1862 Dickinson turned to the literary critic Thomas Wentworth Higginson for advice about her poems. She had known him only through his essays in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you have, chances are that you mentally answered your question by saying that the company read your mind and was fulfilling your desire to lose weight while still indulging in your favorite beverage. However, the relationship between you and the food giants is quite the opposite. What you think is healthy or unhealthy is based on research funded by companies that profit off of your food choices, currently, much of the research regarding health and weight loss is funded by companies such as Coca Cola and Kellogg therefore therefore, you are the one fulfilling their desire (CBS, 2015). The idea that large companies and the media dictate our daily lives has slowly become common knowledge. Therefore, one must be cautious in regards of the sources he or she trusts. For instance, Steve Blair, who conducts research that supports the idea that obesity in America is due to lack of physical activity as opposed to calorie consumption has much of his research funded by Coca Cola, a company which is largely known for its calorie packed drinks and snacks. Moreover, while Blair s research might be supported by relevant data, so was the research that justified smoking. • 22. Hazing In Cyberbullying The internet and the increase in social media use have created a whole new dimension to bullying and hazing. While cyber bullying is relatively young in comparison to bullying and hazing, it is no less vicious in nature, and like the Internet, it continues to evolve over time ( National , n.d., p. 1). Policies and procedures need to be continually updated as technology and the way students communicate rapidly change. There are countless examples of social media used to bully students. In a case in Iowa, Kiana Phelps was cyber bullied because of her success in track (Naughton, 2016). According to Naughton (2016), jealous students posted Social media photos of her working out accompanied with rude and sarcastic comments. The students went so far as to claim online that Phelps only gets attention because her older sister had died of anorexia (Naughton, 2016). Obviously, this situation became personal and very hurtful for Phelps but the school board did not take any action (Naughton, 2016). Another bully case started in a high school locker room. According to the victim, Sophia Dama, Victoria Neuman, took cell phone videos of two of the girls, Brianna Kopp and Jenifer Kempka, sitting on the toilet. Sophia Dama later told her father that Neuman took a picture of her dressing in a stall (Richmond, 2016). This is erroneous because defining what deaf really means, means looking past the definition and looking into the heart of a deaf person, to see equality among us all. Equality among humans isn t controversial, but what is? Cochlear Implantation is controversial. Inserting an internal disruption of the deaf culture is controversial. Placing an electronic device in your children s ears because you want them to talk like a normal child is controversial. After having a very rigorous debate about CI s in my ASL class, I came to the conclusion that out of 30 students, more than half of them would choose implantation of their young fragile, pure child. Being deaf is way more than just being able to hear, being deaf is a gift; a family within a family, and implanting a child a child under your circumstances only shreds the wrapping paper off that gift. Lets jump right into the positive facts of cochlear implants, because there isn t many. in a very descriptive and informational article by Ron Kotulak, he mentions that, The implant significantly improve the hearing of adults in conjunction with speech reading. Benefits have also been observed in children as young as two. Ontology involves using a nature perspective to establish how things work. On the other hand, epistemology involves assessing the interaction between the knowledge of the inquirer and the research (Saunders, Lewis, Thornhill, 2009). The nature of reality can thus be determined by reviewing the four primary research philosophies that are based on epistemology and ontology. Compass And Straightedge Compass and Straightedge: Basic Constructions and Limitations In Euclid s Elements, Book 1, the very first proposition states, To construct an equilateral triangle on a given finite straight line. (Heiberg, Fitzpatrick, Euclid, pg 8) This proposition is saying that it is possible to construct an equilateral triangle from a given segment. Euclid was able to perform this construction with just a straightedge and compass. As The Elements was published in 300 BC (Heiberg, Fitzpatrick, Euclid, pg 4) only the most basic tools had been invented. The straightedge Euclid used the Euclidean ruler, used only the draw the straight line through any two points (Martin, pg 6). There were no markings on the straightedge, unlike modern rulers. The compass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With modern tools such as a protractor and marked ruler, this question is easy to do. However, it is more difficult with only a straightedge and compass. For thousands of years people tried to solve this problem and either ended up with an inexact construction or they had to use other tools than the Euclidean tools. Finally in 1837 Pierre Laurent Wantzel, a French mathematicians, solved the problem (Major, Jost, pg 81). It turns out that in general it is impossible to trisect any angle, but there are cases, for example 90 degrees and 180 degrees, that can be trisected with a straightedge and compass (Courant, Robbins, pg 147). The degrees that can be trisected come from the n gons that are constructible from a compass and straightedge. An example of this is an equilateral triangle. The angles are 60 degrees, which is a third of 180 degrees. But in general, most angles cannot be trisected. To prove that in general it is impossible to trisect an angle, it suffices to show that one angle cannot be trisected. For example take an angle of 60 degrees. Let the angle be denoted by ϴ and cosϴ = y. Need to find x = cos(ϴ/3). Cosine of ϴ/3 is connected to cosϴ=y=4〖cos〗^3(ϴ/3) 3cos(ϴ/3) Thus trisecting an angle with cosϴ = y comes to 〖4z〗^3 3z y=0. Then take ϴ =60 degrees, and y = cos(60) = 1/2. Thus 〖8z〗^3 6z= 0. There is no rational number that satisfies z, thus the general holds, and it is impossible to trisect an angle (Courant, Robbins, pg ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Overview This document describes the manner in which Vendor Oversight assigns tiers to Pacific Union Financial ( PUF or the Firm ) vendors and manages vendors accordingly to facilitate due diligence, maintenance and compliance with Firm, state, and Federal requirements. Background The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ) is tasked with writing and enforcing rules for financial entities to protect consumers from unfair, deceptive or otherwise harmful practices by such entities. A major area of focus for the CFPB is a robust and effective oversight of a financial institution s third party providers (vendors) to ensure consumers are not exposed to unnecessary risk of financial or personal harm. The CFPB has not issued specific rules outlining how a financial institution must oversee its vendors; however, they have provided guidelines which outline the areas that such institutions should consider in their oversight program. Among these, establishing internal controls and on going monitoring to determine whether the service provider is complying with Federal consumer financial law is specifically stated as an expectation of the CFPB for financial institutions towards their third party providers. Though it is known that certain means to achieve such spectacles were vicious and cruel, it ultimately satisfied the Roman peoples need for pleasure and excitement. Public displays varied from chariot races, musical and theatrical performances, to the more gruesome acts of wild beast hunts, gladiatorial games, and public executions. Most of the Romans daily leisure activities still remain in the realm of common recreational activities we still perform today, such as swimming, hunting, fishing, and even gambling. While the inner city state provided nearly all public entertainment events, citizens held their own interpretations beyond the outer city territories. Every distinguishable form of entertainment within the society held distinct and important influences throughout the ancient Roman culture, regardless of how they were formed or who cultivated them. • 43. Family Systems Theory Of Hope Research There has been much research surrounding hope as a theory, form of treatment, and its application in both psychotherapy and health industries. In his research Snyder was able to corroborate his hypothesis that people are likely to think in terms of goals and are constantly finding and refining way to accomplish those goals (2002). Participants also often spoke about the connection between those pathways and their motivations. Snyder found that hope was a form of motivation for goal attainment, and was directly related to positive outcome measured by the degree of hopefulness or a hope scale (2002). He concluded that hope is a primary way of thinking and emotions played a lesser secondary role. Collective research shows that the degree of hopefulness is also related to the probability and proximity of goal attainment. Those with short or intermediate goals typically show higher levels of hope than those with long term or seemingly impossible targets. The idea is that organisms are complex systems in and of themselves and must be understood as such (Boss, Doherty, LaRossa, Schumm, Steinmetz, 1993). Like those systems, families are complex with multiple components that interact and influence each other. In this way, researchers and clinicians seek to explain the connectedness, behaviors, interactions, and interdependence of the whole rather than just focusing on the individual parts. Understanding the family system requires taking a holistic approach to pathology and treatment. Systems thinking is a way of examining how changes in one component effects other parts of the system and back, in a cyclic comprehensive manner. Offer is accepting the terms of negotiation and discussion after an invitation to treat. The external look of an offer and invitation of treat sometimes look the same and hard to differentiate but different by the core means of commercial law. So what is difference between offer and invitation of treat? As Guenter Heinz Treitel defines offer as an expression of willingness to contract on certain terms, made with the intention that it shall become binding as soon as it is accepted by the person to whom it is addressed, the offeree 1. It is a statement of terms and conditions of that will be passed to the offeree. It might be passed through letters, newspaper and advertisement. While Andrew Burrows defines the invitation of treat as an expression of willingness to negotiate. A person making an invitation of treats does not intend to bind as soon as it is acceptable by the person to whom the statement is addressed 2 The difference between an offer and invitation of treat is that if offeree accepts an offer from the offerer, both created a bound of contract while if supplier accepts an invitation of treat from the client to negotiate and discuss terms they created an offer. Morrison (2007) believed that it is important for social workers to exhibit emotional intelligence because it sets them apart from others that lacks the trait; displaying a level of unconscious competence, expertise and effortlessness (p3). He talked about four different domains that the EI model measures. According to the article, there are two interpersonal and two intrapersonal domains. The interpersonal domain gives a measure of self awareness and self management skills, while the intra personal domain measures empathy and relationship skills (Morrison, p7). It is great for social workers to be in tune with their own emotions and learn how to cope with their lives in order to make a difference in a client s life. Morrison (2007) also stated that having an understanding and handling one s own and other s emotions is a critical aspect at every stage of the social work task: engagement, assessment, observation, decision making, planning and intervention (p15). The second article, Impact of a College Freshman Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum on Student Learning Outcomes was a study constructed by various widener professors, Wang et al.
