Seminar on:- Advanced Material for
Construction
Presented By:- Vivek Mahajan &
Rushikesh Mate
Guided By:- Prof. A.S. Mehetre Sir
Collage Name:- Gokhale Education Society’s
Sir Dr. M.S. Gosavi Polytechnic Institute
Nashik Road 422101
Department of Civil Engineering
Topic we are Presented :-
 Common building stone
 Bricks
 Cement
 Tiles
 Glass Cladding
Common Building Stone
 Basalt, Granite, Marbal , Kadappa , Dolerite , lime stone,
Shahabad, etc are the example of building stone.
 Use of Stones
• Broken stone and stone chips are use in foundation & railways
ballast
• Lime stone slab are used for flooring , paving , and roofing.
• Marbal is extremely suitable for ornament and superior type of
building work. Ex Taj Mahal
Bricks
• A brick is building material used to make
walls, pavements and other elements
in construction.
• Composition of Brick
1) Alumina (20 to 30 ℅)
2) Silica ( 50 to 60 ℅)
3) Lime
4) Magnesia
5) Iron Oxide
Types of Bricks
Acid
Resistance
brick .
Engineering
brick .
Silica
bricks .
Refractory
brick .
Sand lime
brick .
Blue bricks .
New Generation or Advanced Bricks :-
Diamond brick
Concrete brick
Tiles
• A tile is a manufactured piece of hard-wearing
material such as ceramic, stone, metal, or
even glass, generally used for covering roofs,
floors, walls or other objects.
• Tiles are often used to form wall and floor
coverings, and can range from simple square
tiles to complex mosaics.
Types of Tiles
Burnt Clay Tiles
Concrete Tiles
• Ceramic Tiles
 Uses of Tiles
• Tiles are used for flooring.
• Its used for roofing.
• For decoration purposes.
• Characteristics of Good tiles
• A tile should have no cracks .
• It should be well burnt ,dense ,compact ,regular in
shape and size .
• It should have uniform colour .
• It should be non slippery when used for flooring .
Cement
• It is defined as finely ground mixture of calcium
aluminates and silicate of varying composition which
hydrates when mixed with water to form rigid
continuous structure with a good compressive
strength.
• It designates a fine grey powder that is used for
construction purpose.
Types of
Cement
Natural
Cement
Pozzalonic
cement
High
Aluminum
cement
Portland
cement
Uses of Cement
• It is used in mortar for plastering.
• Its used concrete for laying floors,
roofs, pillars etc.
• Its used for precast pipes
manufacturing.
• Now a days the glass cladding work is preferably
adopted in building construction , since it fulfils the
various functional requirement of building such as
lighting , heat retention etc , with visual impact
creation.
Glass Cladding
Advantages of Glass Cladding:-
1) Use of glass in construction work add beauty to the
building.
2) Its use fulfills the architectural view for external
decoration.
3) Glass cladding in building fulfill functional
requirement of lighting, heat retention and energy
saving.
4) Glass is an excellent material for thermal insulation,
water proofing and energy conservation.
5) Glass is bad conductor of heat; it saves energy in air
conditioning of building.
6) For making glass partition on upper floors, no extra
design is required for slab as glass is light in weight.
Conclusion:-
 From this topic Advanced Building for
Construction we are learn that,
 Common building stones and their use.
 Types of Bricks.
 Cement and their types.
 Tiles and their types.
 What is the Glass cladding.
