3. WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?
Types of heroin:
Pure heroin - white powder - made from morphine (opium poppy)
Brown sugar – from white to brown - street and prescription drugs, including
methamphetamine
Black tar – from brown to black - several partially processed forms of opiate, which
differ from heroin

14. EXTERNAL SYMPTOMS OF TEMPORAL USE

16. BEHAVIORAL SYMPTOMS OF ADDICTION
Avoiding eye contact, or distant field of vision
Increase in slurred, garbled or incoherent speech
Decreasing attention to hygiene and physical appearance
Loss of motivation and apathy toward future goals
Withdrawal from friends and family, instead spending time with new friends with no natural
tie
Lack of interest in hobbies and favorite activities
Repeatedly stealing or borrowing money from loved ones, or unexplained absence of valuables
Hostile behaviors toward loved ones, including blaming them for withdrawal or broken
commitments
Wearing long pants or long sleeves to hide needle marks, even in very warm weather

Janis Joplin
The official cause of death was an
overdose of heroin, possibly
compounded by alcohol. The manager
believes that Joplin had accidentally
been given heroin that was much
more potent than normal, as several
of her dealer's other customers also
overdosed that week.

An autopsy established heroin
overdose as the official cause of death.
He had been booked to play a show at
the Majestic Ventura Theater, which
ended up being a memorial show in his
honor.
20. SID VICIOUS
At the dinner gathering, his
mother (who was once a
registered addict herself) had
some heroin delivered by her
boyfriend. Vicious overdosed at
midnight.
