Heroin comes from opium poppies grown in dry, warm climates and is refined from morphine. It exists in different forms including black tar, brown sugar, and white powder. Injecting heroin is common but can cause cotton fever from filter materials. Heroin is also graded based on purity and is often mixed with other drugs. Physically, heroin slows heart rate and breathing, risks overdose, and impacts the circulatory, digestive, nervous and reproductive systems. Heroin addiction affects people of all ages and backgrounds and has widespread social impacts including increased crime, disease, and homelessness.

exist and contributes to the destructive
outcomes of what persuaded addicts to engage

host of other issues
INTRODUCTION
36. • Heroin is the one of the most powerful known (semi
or non-synthetic) painkillers. It is one of the opiates
that come from the dried milk of the opium poppy,
which include morphine and codeine. Heroin isn't a
naturally occurring drug – it is refined from
morphine. It is therefore more powerful, although its
effects are very similar. Heroin's medical name is
diamorphine.
WHAT IS HEROIN
37. Heroin comes from many places: China, Mexico, the mountains
around the borders of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan and such
areas are poppy rich. Opium poppies (a flower, as above) grow
best in dry, warm climates. They are often grown in these areas by
farmers with small plots of land. The sap is collected by the
farmer, then it's bought by a merchant or broker who takes the
opium to a morphine refinery.

38. • Black Tar- is a very potent type of heroin that
has a very dark crystal-like texture when
compared with white powdered heroin. For this
reason, it's often smoked using foil, lighter and a
make shift pipe.

1ST- BLACK TAR
39. 2ND TYPE –BROWN SUGAR
Brown sugar, similar to black tar, brown sugar
looks a lot like it’s name it’s namesake and is
typically smoked or injected. Other names include:
Brown and Brown Crystal. The most commonly
used is the brown.
40. White Lady is another term for heroin in white powder
form. Heroin is often found as a powder. In its purest
form (diamorphine), this powder is white. Users
typically progress to shooting the drug.
heroin comes in white, yellow, brown and even
grey
3RD TYPE- WHITE POWDER
41. INJECTION
Heroin doesn't dissolve easily, so users have
to dissolve it in a spoon with water before
they can inject it. Heat is often used to help
it dissolve and many users suffer from
"cotton fever" as they do not realize that
the cotton ball filter itself can cause
extreme sickness and fever. Cigarette filters
are also the cause of fiber build up in the
users lungs. Still though, the benefits of
filtering outweigh the risks of not.
42. Heroin is graded by purity. Grade four is
believed to be about 80 percent pure
heroin and can be lethal if injected without
cutting the product to dilute the purity.

45. •Heart, blood and circulation – Heroin slows down your circulation and heart
rate. Heroin also increases the size of certain blood vessels (making you feel
warm).
•Stomach – It depresses bowel activity, which can result in constipation.
Heroin can make you feel sick, and first-time users often vomit.
•Lungs – Heroin suppresses your cough reflex and slows down your breathing,
causing hyperventilation. This can put you at risk of lung disease. An overdose
of heroin can cause respiratory failure and death.
•Nervous system – At higher doses, sedation takes over and you become
drowsy. An excessive dose can produce stupor and coma, and possible death.
•Sexual organs – Heroin can cause irregular periods in women. In both men
and women, it can make you lose interest in sex, and it affects your sexual
performance.
