ABSTRACT
In the field of electricity, transformer plays a vital role and it is the Lifeline and integral part of
electrical transmission and distribution system. It is a simple static device operating on the
principle of electro-magnetic induction. Its function is to transform power at same frequency
from one part of the circuit to another.
The transformer is used as an important component in the power system for the following two
main reasons:
1. Minimize transmission and distribution losses by adoptingappro transmission and
distribution voltages.
2. To facilitate availability of power to individual consumers at voltages they desire for their
systems.
As a part of the project design of a three-phase transformer was done and its performance
evaluation was judged by comparing the results.
Testing was done on a three phase distribution transformer and the parameters like resistance, no
load loss, load loss, impedance voltages were measured, which were taken as input and the
efficiency at different loads and regulation at UPF and 0.8 PF were calculated.
The results thus obtained were compared with the guaranteed technical particulars and the
performance of the transformer was evaluated.

  • 3. ABSTRACT In the field of electricity, transformer plays a vital role and it is the Lifeline and integral part of electrical transmission and distribution system. It is a simple static device operating on the principle of electro-magnetic induction. Its function is to transform power at same frequency from one part of the circuit to another. The transformer is used as an important component in the power system for the following two main reasons: 1. Minimize transmission and distribution losses by adoptingappro transmission and distribution voltages. 2. To facilitate availability of power to individual consumers at voltages they desire for their systems. As a part of the project design of a three-phase transformer was done and its performance evaluation was judged by comparing the results. Testing was done on a three phase distribution transformer and the parameters like resistance, no load loss, load loss, impedance voltages were measured, which were taken as input and the efficiency at different loads and regulation at UPF and 0.8 PF were calculated.
