INTRODUCTION
• Acetate pathway operates with the involvement of acyl carrier protein (ACP) to
yield fatty acyl thioesters of ACP. These acyl thioesters forms the important
intermediates in fatty acid synthesis.
• The pathway contain mainly two route:
(i) Acetate Mevalonate Pathway
(ii) Acetate Melonate Pathway
• Its contributes one third known secondary metabolites.
ACETATE MELONATE PATHWAY
• Acetate-Melonate pathway includes synthesis of Fatty acids and Aromatic
compounds with the help of secondary metabolites.
• Main precursors of Acetate-Melonate Pathway are Acetyl-CoA and Malonyl-CoA
.
• End products of this pathway can be saturated or unsaturated fatty acids or
polyketides
• Polyketides are secondary metabolites which further synthesize Aromatic
compounds by polyketide pathway.
