CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILTY
Today we define Corporate Social Responsibility as the way a company
balances its economic, social and environmental objectives while
addressing stakeholder expectations and enhancing shareholder value.
 Corporate Social Responsibility Policy:-The company’s earliest initiatives
in community development date back to the 1940's in a village on the outskirts of
Mumbai while the first formal Village Welfare Scheme was launched in 1952.
The community living around many of our factories comprises the weakest
sections of rural and tribal India with no access to basic amenities.
 Community & Rural Welfare:-Our community development activities revolve
around the under-privileged community that lives in the immediate vicinity of our
cement plants and is thus more dependent on us.
 Education:-ACC schools maintain high standards and are open to other
children of the vicinity.
 Healthcare:- Each factory has a medical center with full-fledged doctors and the
latest of basic equipment.
 Global Concept:-ACC Limited is a signatory to the United Nations Global
Compact. We are committed to the ten principles of the Compact which foster
better corporate responsibility in the areas of human rights, labour, environment
and anti-corruption
LATEST DEvELOPMENT OF ACC
Ambuja-Holcim-ACC restructuring may
not be so bad after all
oA merger of ACC with Ambuja Cements would have caused a 78
percent dilution in Ambuja’s equity base, without adding much to the
combined entity’s earnings per share.
oIt would have necessitated clearance from the Competition
Commission of India, which could have delayed the process. The
unsaid part here is that the cement industry and the CCI have been at
loggerheads for a while on the thorny issue of cartelization.
oIt would not have helped Holcim automatically raise its stake in the
combined entity to 60 percent, if that was the level the parent company
was looking for.
oThe key here is the Rs 900 crore in savings that Holcim claims the
proposed recast will help achieve by way of synergies between
Ambuja Cements and ACC.
