Virulence Factors Of Cryptoccus Neoformans
Cryptococcus neoformans (Cn) is a basidiomycete fungus that causes cryptococcosis worldwide in
immunodeficiency and healthy individuals. In this pathogen, the elaboration of virulence factors
including melanin and the capsule depends on intact intracellular trafficking, an essential cellular
process also required for nutrient uptake, ion homeostasis, and receptor recycling. Our previous
studies have found that Cn evolves a cryptococcal intersectin (Cin1) regulated endocytic pathway
essential for growth and virulence. We have also obtained evidence linking Cin1 to extracellular
RNAthrough RNA Seq and to CNS survival through co infection of a mouse model of
cryptococcosis. However, how Cin1 governs the transport network affecting... Show more content

Specifically, we will find if Cin1 orchestrates the only endocytic pathway and how it affects host
parasite interaction through regulating exRNA transport and mouse CNS survival. We propose
three specific aims: Aim 1 is to determine if Cin1 mediates the sole endocytic pathway in Cn
through identification and characterization of pathway components. Aim 2 is to examine the role
of Cin1 in exRNA export through continued annotation and analysis of RNA Seq data. Aim 3 is to
further explore the CNS survival advantage of Cin1 S by generating the Cin1 L strain using one
step CRISPR Cas9 mutagenesis method we recently developed and testing it through co infection.
Our central hypothesis is that intracellular trafficking is important in pathogen growth and
interaction with a host resulting pathogenesis (our long term goal). We propose those specific aims
to test the hypothesis that Cn evolves a distinct Cin1 endocytic pathway necessary for pathogenesis
(short term goal). Through studying a fundamental cellular process and its adaptation to
pathogenesis of Cn, our investigation could lead to the discovery of novel antifungal targets. 2.
Specific Aims
Cryptococcus neoformans (Cn) virulence depends on active transport of vesicles that contain
melanin and capsule precursors, proteinases, and other macromolecules. We found that Cin1 is
critical in mediating intracellular trafficking affecting growth and virulence and that Cin1 S
isoform exhibits a marked survival advantage in the

Analysis of Joan Didion’s Essay, On Going Home
While reading Joan Didion s essay On Going Home one may be reminded of a sense of home
and family. In this essay Didion recreates the feeling one gets when one visits a place from the
past or while reminiscing about fond memories. This memory is marked by the reflective thought
about the ability to be able to pass this same sense on to another. Didion s On Going Home is like
a flood of warm memories leaving you with a single reflective thought.
The way she uses description in this essay and the flow of events is very similar to the way that
memories rush in when one returns to a familiar place from one s past. To someone that may not of
experienced this phenomena the details described may seem to be disconnected and random. ...

Each detail is seemingly distinct yet each shares the same sense of family and of personal history.
Readers who share this same sense of home may be touched be the way Didion connects with
them through her use of description. While she does not directly relate her point to the audience it
is clearly present. Each element in the essay highlights not only the sense of family that is there
but how they influence a person s perspective and attitude. While one shares in her journey through
her past and her visits with her family it brings to mind how one may or may not have this same
sense of family to pass on to their family or even have it themselves. This point is summoned in the
closing paragraph when Didion herself reflects on this thought.
The flow of this narrative may seem jumpy or disconnected and illogical to some but to others
who share a similar perspective the details seem like a flood of memories. Every detail and
element is timeless and independent of the others while at the same time holding a deeper
connection shared with all of the others. Each detail holds a value that isn t noticed at first by
others just like each of the items she mentions holds a value to her and her family but is lost on her
husband who doesn t share the same sense of home with her.
Didion well highlighted the issue that she felt about not

Analysis Of Frank And Juliette s Music
Frank and Juliette, both discussed their own spiritual experiences, or version of as being related to
music. This presents the idea that music,in some ways, could be a secular alternative to religious
practices and understandings or simply a way of experiencing spirituality in secular spheres.
Frank:... listen to songs where I ve felt emotions and feelings that run past the specific context of
the song ... this applies to more of my life than it should... a lot of people have had that with music...
Ideas of transcendence and deep personal connection are apparent here.
Juliette: Concert, not a gig ... a concert where you ve been a fan for ages. There s all these people,
you re all in the same vibe... this person that you like, idolised. . . Florence and The Machine, her
music is very spiritual... it s really deep...and relatable. . . . I don t know if I d call myself spiritual
because I go to concerts and feel deep about it.
. . . I guess [I listen to music] pretty much every day . . . If you compare it to religion, is like praying
every day and then going to Church. So like, listening to music every day and then going to the
concert.
Initiation into a subculture, reflects initiation into religious rituals, thus, similar themes of
spirituality emerge. Participants can accept or reject concepts of spirituality upon attending a
subcultural gig. This is the space where individuals are most likely to engage with meaning in the

Physical Health Problems
The physical health problems caused by the computers for children
Introduction
The invention of the electronic tools e.g. computers make people lead an efficient and convenient
life. The efficiency, convenience and practicability of the electronic tools e.g. computers attract
both adults and children, and make them use these tools in their daily life (ThomГ©e, 2015). As
has been seen, the use of computers and in adults work is becoming more frequent and majority
of children use these tools in their daily life as well. However, the long time use of computers may
caused some problems, and one of the problems is the physical health problem. When using a
computer, no matter a laptop or a desktop, the user do not need to move. These behavior would
normally be defined as sedentary behavior, which may make the user to do less physical exercise, fit
less physically and suffer more risk of health problems. The problem may be solved by three
solutions, the first seems to make children use computer in a right posture, the second may be some
physical exercises and another solution seems to decrease children s time spent on computers.
Physical health problem caused by computers
According to Kimmerly (2009), over 90% of children aged 3 18 in the US used computers, and
with children aged, more children started to use computer related activities. However, the long
time of uses of these electronic tools may lead to physical health problems to children. For example

Mexican Immigration Research Paper
THE MODERN ERA
In 2014, 35 million Americans identified as Hispanic, of whom 64 percent said they had Mexican
heritage almost 11 percent of the total population. As birthrates for Hispanics exceed those of
Anglos, demographers estimate that by 2042 non Hispanic whites will be a numerical minority in
the United States. At the beginning of this century, there were twenty one states where Hispanics
were the largest ethnic minority.
As a consequence, the nature of assimilation historically a conflicting process for Southwestern
Anglos and Mexican Americans is likely to become less a matter of conformity to Anglo socials
norms and more a process of cultural pluralism.
The concept of cultural pluralism suggests that immigrants should assimilate to American culture
by enriching American traditions with those that other cultures bring with them, expanding the
American cultural landscape of art, cuisine, education, history, law, music, language, medicine and
other aspects of life.
Most recently, studies by the Pew Charitable Trust demonstrate that the number of illegal
immigrants from Mexico entering the United States has actually been declining, resulting in a net
negative number of Mexican immigrants entering the United States. Reasons for this trend include
the Great Recession of 2008, and an improving economy in Mexican, making it more attractive for
Mexicans to stay in Mexico. In addition, stepped up U.S. border enforcement has reduced the
likelihood of success for

The Americans with Disability Act Essay
Usability is a critical portion of web design that one must be ever mindful of when constructing
websites. Whether creating a personal web space or building multiple pages for a large
corporation, it is the burden of the designer to guarantee people can access that content. According
to the United Nations, disabled people compose roughly 10 percent of the world s population
(United Nations, 2010). Many regulations and standards have been set forth to provide disabled
people with the same opportunities to access content available on the World Wide Web
, as it is most
of the World s population.

In order to comply, there are particular methods for ensuring that web sites are ADA compliant.
When considering visually impaired person one must use text colors that are easy to read with
the right combinations of colors as well as the right contrast adjustments. Additionally, color
blindness must be considered. There must be an alternative to images for individuals who cannot
view them in their browsers as well (for example, alt= text ). In addition, the use of screen reading
capabilities must be taken into account due to users that are visually impaired. For persons with
hearing impairments, audio content must have a text alternative provided, besides this, for users
who use alternative speech inputs, there should be a text equivalent. Web designers should also
direct their attention to other disabling conditions such as the need for alternative navigation
elements for people with learning disabilities or lower motor skills. There are also many tools
available to web designers to ensure that their sites are compliant with current ADA laws. In
accordance with the ADA s mission statement, the World Wide Consortium (W3) created the Web
Accessibility Initiative (WAI). In turn, the (WAI) developed a set of guidelines (Web Content
Accessibility Guidelines [WCAG]) with the intent of providing remedies for design concerns that
may arise when designing with the needs of disabled people in mind. The WAI purpose is a means

Memories of the Atomic Bomb Shown in Children Are Game ...
Ask any two people if they remember where they were on 9/11 and you will receive a stunningly
detailed description. However, if you ask those same two people for a detailed account of what
happened that day you would receive two vastly different stories. Why is that? Well, memory is a
very subjective thing. Public memory is subject to even more hazy recollections. Scholars, witness,
and government officials all have different versions about the details. Often times it is artists who
bring together these accounts by creating work which encourages public discussion. Two such
artists are Isabelle Gardner, writer of the poem Children Are Game and Andy Warhol
, painter of
Atomic Bomb . These two artists contribute to the collective memory of... Show more content on

One could argue these children and the public memory of the bombs are similar. People knew
the bomb was deadly, but continued to support the development of more bombs in the same way
the children must have known what they were doing was dangerous, but they too continued risk
their lives regardless of the warnings they must have received from their parents. Both the
children and the people of the times are exhibiting purposeful forgetfulness. They both refuse to
acknowledge what they are doing could be dangerous and have created a powerful trap for
themselves. Gardner writes bombs can blossom in any season and people stuck in these
delusions about the bomb not being a tremendous threat to humanity will be unprepared to deal
with other of life s unpleasant realities. (Line 14) According to poet critic Ralph Mills, Gardener
was most known for her ability to showcase The hidden fears and hesitancies we nourish in
ourselves in a twisted effort to avoid encounters with the multifarious realities of the universe we
inhabit (191). Her metaphor between children and society forgetting the dangerous natures of their
activities in this poem is an excellent example of her this ability to reflecting back society s
feelings about current events and contribute her own version of the bomb story to the collective
memory of society. Gardner not only challenged the collective memory of society of the time, she
also uses the poem s structure to show a cycle of memory and

youngest of any in the group he d seen so far, maybe twelve or thirteen years old. (Chapter 3, p.

Respect and Why the Marine Corps Has a Rank Structure. Essay
Respect and why the Marine Corps has a rank structure. There are very few things in the modern
military of today or any military that has ever existed before our current military for that matter,
that are more important than the rank structure and the the respect that is demanded of you by
that rank structure. Those are two very important characteristics of every successful military
unit. With added details here and there, in this essay I will mainly be discussing what respect
actually is, how being respected is normally earned and in the military how it is demanded of
you as a sub ordinate to any ranks higher than you or in some cases any fellow military personnel
who is more senior to you and why. On top of that I will be covering... Show more content on

We must see that potential. We all need respect, regardless of how immature and gay we behave.
We all need others to see our potential and honor it to better encourage us to grow into it. Some
respect sound judgement, some strength or power. Some respect altruism, some purposefulness.
Parents and teachers may provide initial guidance but what you respect in a person is ultimately
your privilege. A Privilege. However skewed my opinion might be the fact is that in most cases
respect is earned by the actions towards an individual. All that being said the military works a
little different. Respect in the military is demanded of you by your Superior Officers, NCOs and
others of same rank that have three months more salt on there collar. This is where not so much
the definition but the reason it is given can get shifty. It is when one must absolutely show
respect without the normal necessity of actually respecting that person specifically. You are
respecting the title held by a male or female that is above you, normally by a pay grade or 4 and
in the Commissioned Officers case, on a whole different level than you are as an enlisted man.
Not to say that one cannot find an Commissioned Officer or Non Commissioned Officer that
actually deserves it for his or her character traits. Because I haven t met too many Non
Commissioned or Commissioned officers that don t deserve respect for all reasons. Most of the

Raymond Barrio s The Sun Goes Down On Summer
Raymond Barrio and Steve Lawhead are both well known poets, with varying styles. But are
some of their works similar? The Plum Plum Pickers (RB) and The Sun Goes Down on Summer

about a man, Manuel, who believes he is worked like an animal. Beast, savage, brute, predator,
animal, locked, wreck; these are the words that are used to describe him. He s trapped in a never

He describes summer as cool, gentle waters, something he likes and he s now used to. As he
describes high school and not gentle waters, like a pressure cooker of competition, something
that s always changing and that he is not ready for. He tells how the first day of school is always
the worst because everything from the year before has changed, you don t know who your
friends are yet, and it s hard to pick up everything where you left off from the previous year. He
wants to be himself, and he expresses that is the reason he quit football, he didn t know why he
was playing, or who he was playing for. He says school is full of things that take away freedom
and keep you from being who you really are. And that being yourself isn t easy. At the end of the
poem, you see a resolution of his thoughts. He realizes that he might learn something about
himself, and a new school year means a brand new start, and he comes to terms with his first day
back to high school. Lawhead doesn t use sound very much throughout his poem. Although, he
does use rhythm. He uses repeating and similar words and phrases to create emphasis. The
beginning is slower and drags out to give a sense of anxiety, and starts to pick up near the end to
give a sense of optimism. Lawhead s structure contains forty

How Vacation Is A Vacation
Billy Stringfellow
Amy McWhirt
Composition I, On line
11 May 2015
Come Sail Away Vacation is a time that most people, both young and old, look forward to with
great expectation. Much thought and consideration are usually given regarding the details and
planning of a vacation. Finding a great location with activities and dining options for all can be
challenging. Our family struggled with this dilemma for many years, until we went on a cruise
vacation. There, we found the vacation of our dreams. We had a solid week that we did not have
to drive anywhere, cook, wash dishes, clean anything, or even make the bed. Because one can travel
in luxurious accommodations to exotic ports of call, enjoy fine cuisine, service and entertainment
for an economical price, cruising is the best vacation one can take.
Cruise ships leave daily from locations all over the world and sail to many wonderful ports of
call. One can go to the Caribbean, Mexico, Bahamas, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, or even take a cruise
to nowhere to name just a few. Depending on the length of the cruise, the ship stops at particular
locations and stays in port all day. One can enjoy the best excursion each port has to offer during
the day, then return back on board that evening to cruise away to the next day s location. The only
responsibility one has is getting back to the ship on time.
Cruises can be as expensive or as economical as one desires them to be. It really just depends on the
experience one is

Analysis Of Being A Half Breed By Leslie Marmon
Leslie Marmon Silko s novel, Ceremony, reveals how the crossing of cultures was feared,
ridiculed, and shunned in various Native American tribes. The fear of change is a common and
overwhelming fear everyone faces at some point in their life. The fear of the unknown, the fear
of letting go, and the fear of forgetting all play a part in why people struggle with change. In
Ceremony the crossing of cultures creates half breeds, usually bringing disgrace to their family s

These derogatory terms were used against Tayo and Night Swan as they differed from the
Laguna people. Tayo and Night Swan are rejected by the white and Native populations, and it is
determined they are tainted or dirty compared to those ridiculing others. Night Swan says, they
think that if their children have the same color of skin, the same color of eyes, that nothing is
changing, which is why Auntie excludes Tayo from the family because of Tayo s mother s
mistake to interact with white men (Silko 92). We see a change in this perspective in today s
society as we have interracial families, where race plays little to no part in determining a couple s
love for one another. However, we do still have families which believe their children should marry
within the same race due to the fear of change within their own family.
Night Swan is initially an outcast because she is a half breed but her frivolous behavior pushes
her even further as a disgrace to women. Night Swan discusses the real reason her and Tayo are
outcasts, they are afraid, Tayo. They feel something happening, they can see something happening
around them, and it scares them. Indians or Mexicans or whites most people are afraid of change.
(Silko 92). Night Swan teaches Tayo about miscegenation and how the people do not physically fear
them, but rather fear the concept of change occurring around them. Night Swan

Drug Use Continuum:
Initial drug/alcohol use can be motivated by a number of factors. Such as, an
individual s inquisitiveness about the drug and it s effect, predisposition, peer pressure,
psychodynamic processes, homelessness, mental health illness and poverty. These can
all offer ample motivation for experimental or circumstantial drug use. If taken
repeatedly, a period of casual drug use often develops. Further usage associated with
more frequent drug administration, higher drug dosages, and/or the use of more effective
routes of administration (switching from intranasal to intravenous use) can lead to
intensive patterns of drug use. Continued, more sustained drug use can then produce
compulsive drug use where the substance has strong motivational properties and appears
to govern much of the individual s behavior. The most extreme case of drug use is the
final progression to addiction.
Substance use, like many human behaviors, occurs along a broad spectrum from
no use to compulsive/extremely heavy use (Abadinsky, 2011). Thus, the likelihood of an
individual experiencing problems emerging from substance use, usually increases as the
rate of use amplifies. The gamut for

Describe Platt s Methods Of Strong Inference Case Study
Questions and Responses
1) Describe Platt s methods of strong inference. How does this method guide research programmes
in terms of accuracy of conclusions, efficiency of resources and utility of planning for future
research? Platt s methods of strong inference are post positivism. He asserts that counter
productivity can occur when a single theory is adhered to and attachment occurs. The single theory
method lacks efficiency and can be subject to confirmation bias. Strong inference is the method
Platt encourages and proposes. Alternate hypotheses are a foundational part of strong inference.
When creating an important experiment with the possibility of differing and alternative outcomes,
each of which will, as nearly as possible, exclude one or more of the hypotheses . Furthermore,
Platt proposes to run the experiment to get a clean result . Lastly, Recycling the procedure, making
sub hypotheses or sequential hypotheses to refine the possibilities that remain, and so on . This
type of research leads to improved accuracy of conclusions due to the nature of not depending on
one hypothesis or the attachment to a single theory. Resources are efficiently used due to the
logical progression of strong inference and the rapid nature conclusions. Platt states,
It is clear why this makes for rapid and powerful progress. For exploring the unknown, there is no
faster method; this is the minimum sequence of steps. Any conclusion that is not an exclusion is
insecure and must be rechecked. Any delay in recycling to the next set of hypotheses is only a
delay. Strong inference, and the logical tree it generates, are to inductive reasoning what the
syllogism is to deductive reasoning, in that it offers a regular method for reaching firm inductive
conclusions one after the other as rapidly as possible.
Molecular biology is one example used by Platt. Systematic method of inference is credited with
leading to a succession of pivotal experiments that caused the field of molecular biology to
explode . It seeks to guide future research by following a logical structure to further research and
lays a grounded foundation.

Fredrick Douglass Essay
The purpose behind Fredrick Douglass s Narrative was to appeal to the other abolitionists who he
wanted to convince that slave owners were wrong for their treatment of other human beings. His
goal was to appeal to the middle class people of that time and persuade them to get on board with
the abolitionist movement. Douglass had a great writing style that was descriptive as well as
convincing. He stayed away from the horrific details of the time, which helped him grasp the
attention of the women who in turn would convince their husbands to help by donating money and
eventually ending slavery. He used his words effectively in convincing the readers that the slave
owners were inhuman and showed how they had no feelings for other human... Show more content

This meant that these bastard children were slaves despite their paternal heritage because their
mother was a slave. The effect of this revelation was to shock and offend the morals of the
conservative Northern whites. Northern society scorned people in adulterous and interracial
relationships. By portraying these Southerners as immoral and adulterous, Douglass wanted to
cultivate in his audience a damaging opinion of southern slaveholders (Quarles ix).
Continuing with the theme of family values, Douglass shifts to the basic family unit. Their master
separated Douglass and his mother when he was an infant, for what reason he does not know
(Douglass 2). No one gave Douglass an explanation because this situation was customary on
plantations. Douglass wanted to horrify his Northern white readers by informing them that
slaveholders regularly split slave families for no apparent reason. This obviously would upset
Northerners because the family unit was the foundation for their close knit communities. Multiple
generations and extended families lived together or near each other. It was unimaginable to the
readers that a society existed that took children away from their mothers without reason.
Northerners would think of anyone who was part of such a society as a heartless monster (Quarles
ix).

Environmental Impacts Of A Verity Of Environments
A verity of environments has many different impacts on companies and there customers. The types
of environments that create certain impacts are: economic environments, socio cultural
environments, technological environments, global environments, and competitive environments.
Along with these environments, regulations can also impact a company and its customers.
Speedway is not exempt from the impacts that are brought on by the environments and regulations.
The economic environments Speedway encounters are employment, income, inflation, and wealth.

ICAEW Code Of Ethics Essay
Q1. Critically evaluate the ICAEW Code of Ethics and guidance on Professional Conduct in
Relation to Taxation for professional tax accountants. Introduction about the ICAEW Code of
Ethics The purpose of ICAEW code of ethics is to set a professional standard of the ethical
obligations that professional accountants can follow. The professional accountants have a moral
obligation to take into account of the public interest and maintain the reputation of the accounting
profession. Personal self interest must not subject to these obligations. If accountantviolates to this

The Ethics code and the guidance is an important complement to the legal system of the accounting,
it covers the issues which are tend to fall into the gray areas, such as behaviors that are not
forbidden, yet not specially permitted by the law. (John Wily Sons, 2015) It cannot be replaced by
other legal accounting system. Strengthen the accounting professional ethics can effectively
improve the level of professional accountants. If the accountant does not have the awareness of this
ethics and lack of the professional skills, it will be difficult to ensure the authenticity and reliability
of the information. So the ethics and the guidance played an important supplement to the legal
system for accounting. For example, when a tax accountant is facing a situation where the client
wants to fudge their income to avoid paying a high tax. The client may pay the accountant fees for
helping them evade tax. In doing this, the accountant may be long term benefit, But if their actions
are exposed, severe penalties would come. So the ethics code and guidance constrain the behaviors
of accountant. Also, it is a duty for the accountant to reject the illegal actions such as tax
evasion.(Swails,2000)

Louisiana Purchase Importance
Importance of the Louisiana Purchase
The Decisions made to buy the Louisiana Purchase were tough; however, in the end the Louisiana
Purchase was the most important land purchase in American history. In 1803 the United States had
seventeen states along with the Northwest Territory. America still had not reached its potential
growth, even though the states were still growing with settlers, until after the Louisiana Purchase.
The president at this time was Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson s decision would soon be the birth of
our nation, as well as be the largest land purchase in American history.
The port of New Orleans was controlled by France. France eventually gave over the rights to
Spain. Spain didn t want a vast majority of new settlers coming into the land, so Spain closed
New Orleans and the lower part of the Mississippi to any foreigners. Spain eventually gave the
rights of navigation and exploration of the land and New Orleans Port over to the Americans.
France soon gained a new leader by the name of Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon was a powerful
tiny man who took over a vast majority of land in Europe. Spain gave the Louisiana territory to
Napoleon, because of the gigantic size of the property.
Jefferson was troubled by the fact of France owning the land, because it might scare people away
to settle in the land. In response James Monroe was sent to France along with Robert Livingston to
negotiate a trade for the New Orleans territory. Jefferson limited the cost to $10

Effective Advocates For Small Business Utilization Essay
To be effective advocates for small business utilization in DoD acquisitions, Small Business
Professionals (SBPs) need to participate early in the acquisition process and throughout it, and
become trusted members of the team. To accomplish this, SBPs must be knowledgeable of pre and
post award support they can provide to the acquisition team, as well as how small businesses can
help DoD meet its procurement requirements. SBPs have the greatest influence during the pre
solicitation phase of the process. The social initiative is to be recognized as trusted advisors where
they understand the customer s requirements and are knowledgeable of small businessprograms. As
an acquisition sustainability strategy determines, SBPs should provide information on small
businesses and how they might meet the requirements. Reciprocity relates to the idea that
people like to return favors and pay back debts, which can lead to feeling obliged to repay an
offer in some way to address discomfort with feeling indebted to someone else. Commitment is
associated with the desire to follow through on something we ve expressed interest in previously.
Social proof is linked to the idea that if others are doing something we re more likely to do it as
well, particularly when feeling uncertain. Liking suggests that people are more likely to be
influenced by people they like, which can come from similarity, trust, and familiarity. Authority is

Italian Ambiguity
rthermore, the word companion is highly ambiguous as well. In Italian, as in English, companion
means a person you spend a lot of time with often because you are friends or because you are
travelling together ( http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/companion ) but the
producer here wanted to link the word to the drugs, so he or she changed the ordinary meaning of
companion and put the word into inverted commas. By doing this he or she crated ambiguity:

Why should it be preferred to the black, since the existence of good depends on the existence of
bad, and that of white on black? What if we put those teenagers in the upper part, and the couple

but we can go one step further. What if we put those smiling, happy, well dressed couples down,
in the drug taking part, and instead the marginalized teenagers up? Probably it would still look
odd, since the Italian government, which acts from the white perspective, would warn people
not to take drugs (but the people portrayed do not look like druggie so bad companions to be
abandoned, do they? They are still white, well dressed, good looking people) and at the same
time it would encourage the reader/receiver to get engaged and create families, by showing multi
ethnical couples. This is the shift of the meaning that would probably be perceived, but as the
image clearly shows this is not the case. The black is still bad, the white is still good. The reader

To be sincere I never thought about it. What is the appendix?
The appendix is a pouch the size of a finger part of the large intestine and placed in the lower right
abdomen. It is not yet fully understood its operation, although some theories suggest that it plays a
secondary role in the immune system, is the widespread view that it is totally unnecessary. The
removal of the appendix does not seem to have any effect on a person s health. What causes
appendicitis? Obstruction of the lumen (the inside of the Appendix) can cause appendicitis. The
mucus produced recedes into the lumen causing the multiplication of bacteria normally found in the
appendix. The consequence is that the appendix swells and becomes infected.
Sources of obstruction can be: feces, parasites, abnormal growth of the lymphatic tissue (for
example due to the Crohn s disease), foreign bodies or stones (grapes, cherries, peppers) tumors. An
inflamed appendix probably burst if not removed. Bursting would spread the infection throughout
the abdomen, causing peritonitis.
To whom it may happen? All subjects can be appendicitis, but is most common in people between
10 and 30 years of age.
What are the symptoms of appendicitis? Most people with appendicitis classic symptoms that any
doctor can easily identify. The main symptom is abdominal pain, usually sudden, often inducing a

Theoretical Foundations Of Advanced Nursing
Pain Concept

MN502: Theoretical Foundations of Advanced Nursing
Dr. Phelps Introduction
Concepts are ideas that can assist nurses with understanding various situations. This enables
researchers seeking scientific theories in order to identify and measure theory components. It is
best to have clear concepts in order to prevent misunderstandings. Confusion can hinder patient s
knowledge when providing patient education. Poor communication can lead to unintentional non
compliance and delay recovery processes (Stewart, Schofield, Elliott, Torrance, Leveille, 2014).
Pain
Young, old, male, female, we all feel degrees of pain for a variety of reasons. Pain is real and it is
different for everyone. Pain can hold a magnitude of negative effects for all. Medication and non
medication interventions are approaches that can lessen pain. To understand pain, and how to
manage pain, one should explore the true concept of pain.
Pain can refer to an emotional, psychological, or spiritual state; also, pain may result from a
physical condition. The purpose of this paper is to study the concept of pain and to comprehend
the pathophysiology of physical pain. Physical pain can be acute or chronic, mild or severe, dull or
sharp, and in a precise location or referred (Mosby s Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing Health
Professions, 2006). Through understanding this concept, nurses can initiate interventions that will

In the fairy tale Rapunzel , the dreamer, Rapunzel, successfully passes through all the Freudian
psychosexual stages of development. Symbolism helps to illustrate the dreamer s movement
through the five stages. The Witch portrays the super ego figure in Rapunzel . Rapunzel s
mother plays the Id figure. The events of Rapunzel s life lead the reader to identify the dream as
more of a nightmare. Her father agrees to give Rapunzel to a witch, who then locks Rapunzel in a

His act of agreement transitions the dreamer to the anal stage. The witch takes the baby as part of
the agreement, naming her Rapunzel, another word for rampion, symbolizing another oral image.
When Rapunzel turns twelve, the witch locks her in a tower to hide her beauty from the world.
Although the tower represents phallic image, it also symbolizes how the dreamer becomes anal
retentive. The tower had neither stairs nor doors, only high up at the very top a small window ;
the witch tries to keep Rapunzel from the outside world, in theory, keeping her in (1). During the
anal stage, a normal child learns to control ones bodily functions. Thus, Rapunzel becomes
dependent on the witch. As the story continues, a prince happens upon the tower and learns that
the entrance to Rapunzel s tower is by her, long blonde hair. So the next day he comes to the
tower, and repeats the witch s words Let down your golden hair and the Prince climbs up (2). At
first, the prince scares Rapunzel but he then spoke to her so kindly and that his heart had been so
touched by her singing (2). Rapunzel undergoes sexual identification through the prince, another
indication of the phallic stage. The prince then offers to help Rapunzel leave the tower and to marry
him (2). Rapunzel agrees to the prince s plan, and in effect, she attempts to leave the anal stage. But

Essay about Health Care Reform in the United States
Health Care Reform
Health care has been an area of discussion for some time now. In the United States, the current
health care system is a private system that allows individuals to choose their own method of care.
Despite the freedom that comes with the independent nature of this type of health care system, the
true disposition creates more problems than it solves. The privacy of the health care institutions has
caused affordability and access to become serious issues with this system. Additionally, those with
lower socioeconomic status fall short of the ability to access the same pool of resources as
everyone else. Due to the issues with affordability, access, and the poor infrastructure of the health
care system, a universal health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These facts point out that the system currently at play is rather ineffective and therefore ought to
be changed. Money plays a huge role in access, therefore it is a vital issue to discuss. Within the
current system, lack of money results in lack of health care, which leaves thousands of people
without any health care coverage. Between 2001 and 2005, the number of people paying for health
insurance increased 30%, however income only raised 3% (Health Care Problems). Adequate
income is a necessity and unfortunately that is not present. According to the National Conference
of State Legislatures, the average annual premium across the country is $16,000. Currently, the
average annual income in the United States is $51,107. Mint Money Management suggests that
about 4 6% of one s total income should be spent on insurance, including life, disability, and health
insurance. However, the averages in the United States show that the average person spends about
31% of their income on health insurance, which is not financially beneficial. When this rise in
health insurance is not parallel to the inflation of income, innocent people are left without a
method to achieve health care. There is a program for those who can t afford health insurance out
of pocket nor have access to it, and that is called Medicaid. Issues still exist with the program.
There is only so much funding, which leaves many still uninsured. Additionally, people with
Medicaid have difficulty

The Poverty Of The United States
Poverty can be defined as a condition that people suffer from due to lack of economic resources.
For being such a prosperous country, the United States possesses a persistent problem. The
problem is the poverty rate in America and how it has become a force that continuously grows.
One fact that American citizens are not aware of or do not wish to implement in their minds is that
nearly 50 million people in the United States live in poverty. Amongst the 50 million people in the
United States that live below the poverty line, over 5 million more were women than man. This

After 36 hours of trekking across the unmapped island, they arrived at the whaling station. Shortly
after Shackleton and his team arrived at Stromness, a boat was sent to rescue the other two crew
members on the opposite side of South Georgia. Shortly thereafter, Shackleton set out in a
borrowed ship to save the 22 men he had left behind on Elephant Island, but ice continually thwarted
his attempts for more than four more months. Finally, on August 30, 1916, Shackleton was able to
reach Elephant Island and rescue his stranded crew. As he neared land, he anxiously counted the
figures on the beach and told his second in command Worsley, They re all there, Skipper. They are

inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration, contingent reward,

3.3Clear Statement of Requirements
According to Mueller (2005), the FBI did not have complete set of system requirements when the
contract was awarded to SAIC. Even though the FBI had an 800 plus requirements document, the
requirements were too complicated, incomplete and not sufficiently defined. Also the requirements
documents focused more on the finer details of the system layout instead of the high level
functions of the system (Goldstein, 2005). Failure of the VCF project was also caused by
continuously changing requirements. During the project life cycle, the FBI made 400 change
requests most of which had major impact on what was already designed and produced.
3.4Proper planning
The VCF project lacked of proper planning. Firstly, the FBI had no Chief Information Officer (CIO)
at the start of the project. Without a CIO, the FBI had no standard software infrastructure. The FBI
had 23 divisions, each with their own IT budget, investigations database and applications
(Goldstein, 2005).
Secondly, the FBI had no Enterprise Architecture (EA) in place to assist them in making effective
decisions about IT projects. This shortage lead to the SAIC developers having no formal
documentation of how the FBI s IT structure and systems are mapped to its processes to guide
them during the development of the VCF system. Also SAIC was awarded a contract that did not
have a defined project schedule and milestones.

does not suggest that Lisamarie suffers from mental health issues. A Eurocentric reading of the text

If Lisamarie is unsure of certain aspects of her own culture, how are the outsiders who are not
familiar with the Haisla culture at all, supposed to understand her family s supernatural gifts.
This is where the audience viewing this book has troubles understanding Lisamaries perspective
and also why many readers take in a Eurocentric viewing of the novel. Lisas supernatural
encounters are blamed on post traumatic stress, passed on through generations in result of
residential schools, drinking and drug abuse, and grieving of dead relatives. The author Eden
Robinson makes it easy for the reader to claim that Lisa is crazy, due to all these tragedies over

The Invisible Man is a book by Ralph ellison is about an unnamed narrator telling the readers that
he is an invisible man. The narrator elucidate that he is invisible because other refuse to see him.
Ellison went to Tuskegee Institute, just like the narrator/Invisible Man, which was founded by
Booker T. Washington. Throughout his life Ellison was messes with by stereotypes, which made it
hard for him to discover himself, which then lead him to consider himself to be an invisible man.
One of the main object in this book that symbolizes the effect of stereotypes was the sambo doll.
Throughout the book the invisible manis put in various scenarios were his main purpose is to
discover who he is, this Sambo Doll helps him analyze what it stands

Why Is The Screw Sane Or Insane
Sane or Insane?
By Alex Gimenez
Sane or Insane? That is the question, and only the author Henry James knew the answer. There
has been a lot of speculation about The Turn of the Screw, and what makes it so interesting is
that Henry James never tells the reader if the ghosts are real or if the governess is sane or insane.
That leaves the interpretation of the governess mental state up to the reader. The governess is the
one that tells most of the story, and in my opinion, she proves herself to be very unreliable and,
therefore, insane. The reasons why I think the governess was insane are as follows. First, the
governess is the only one in the story who admits to seeing the ghosts. Second, the governess
seemed to become very suspicious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The governess immediately questions what he could have done wrong to get himself expelled.
Mrs. Grose defends Miles, and when the governess finally meets him the governess is taken by his
looks and charm, and thinks she was crazy to think that he could have done anything wrong. Then,
as she becomes more suspicious and paranoid, one night Flora sneaks out of bed and is staring out
the window at someone outside. The governess thinks she is staring at the ghost of Miss Jessel, but
it is really Miles. This makes the governess even more convinced that something fishy is going
on with Miles, Flora, and the ghosts. From here on out, things quickly get worse and there is a
lot of tension between the governess and Miles. Then, Flora disappears one day, and is found at
the lake where the governess first saw Miss Jessel. After Flora is found, the governess loses it
and wants to know where Miss Jessel is, and the ghost appears, but only to the governess. Flora
and Mrs. Grose deny seeing anything, and then Flora turns on the governess for good. So were the
children actually playing her, or was she going

Modern Norse Interaction
The early Norse people of modern Scandinavia were an amazing group of people that traded,
raided, and farmed, we known as Vikings. Norse people were well known travelers of most of the
known world during the Viking age, approximately 800 1150 CE. Their customs and technology
made impacts on civilizations a great distance from their homeland. It seemed that once contact
outside their native land had taken place, an explosion of interaction occurred. They reached out
and interacted with people from the east, south, and west. Some of these interactions were ferocious
in nature filled with slaughter and raiding. Other interactions were peaceful that led to settlements
and open trading. From humble beginnings of farmers to feared sea travelers... Show more content

The Frankish emperor Louis the Pious and his sons were at war. The Norse people continued to
attack some and became allies for others. Louis s son Lothar welcomed the Norse people and
used them in future battles as mercenaries. After Louis s death in 843 CE the Treaty of Verdun
ended the civil war and the kingdom was separated into 3. Charles the Bald became king of the
West Franks. During his time, near the Loire River, the Vikings founded a settlement. This was
a major disadvantage to the Franks and their trade routes. Norse men then began to travel up
rivers to find more monasteries and villages to attack within the Frankish kingdoms. Charles
made several attempts to fortify the towns to protect them, but not enough to overthrow his rule.
None of these strategies were very efficient. Charles made an extreme mistake in 845 CE in an
attempt to deal with these Vikings in a new and less painful way. He tried to buy peace from the
invaders. Paying in large amounts of gold and silver to the Viking s he simply asked not to
attack him. This had the opposite effect he intended and led to waves of Vikings attacking him,
all of which sought to just be paid off . After the death of Charles the Bald , his grandson Charles
the Simple developed a much better plan to deal with this threat (I love their nicknames). He gave
the mouth the Loire River to a Viking leader under the

weigh 3 to 6 kg. They have soft red and black fur on their body. Its facial features make it look
like a raccoon. Even though it has panda in its name it looks nothing like one and is not related.
Because of the color of their fur they can easily camouflage with the moss and lichen on trees.
With the thick fur on their short legs, the Red Panda could easily survive on snowy or icy surfaces
as fur acts for a thermal insulation. They are excellent climbers and feed on bamboo with their
strong, curved and sharp semi retractile claws. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_panda. When

Changes in Bangladesh
Changes in Bangladesh
Bangladesh came to today s shape through a long history of political evolution. Bengal was
probably the wealthiest part of the subcontinent up till the 16th century. The area s early history
featured a succession of Indian empires, internal squabbling, and a tussle between Hinduism and
Buddhism for dominance. All of this was just a prelude to the unstoppable tide of Islam which
washed over northern India at the end of the 12th century. Mohammed Bakhtiar Khalzhi from
Turkistan captured Bengal in 1199 with only 20 men. That was just the beginning. The journey of
Bangladesh goes on.
Today here I am going to state the changes I have experienced through my life. So it will be a

Climate Change:
As one of the countries most seriously affected by climate change and natural disasters, Bangladesh
has been forced to be resourceful and resilient. Without outside help, however, the country of 160
million will not have the capacity to address climate related environmental changes as their severity
and frequency increase. The United States should augment its focus on adaptation measures when
providing the South Asian nation with aid.
The repercussions of global warming on Bangladesh are diverse and wide reaching. The
environmental changes that are occurring directly affect all aspects of society. Human health, food
security, industry and energy security, infrastructure, and economic development are all threatened
by climate change. According to the World Bank, 40 percent of foreign aid to Bangladesh is
vulnerable to climate related factors. In a country as densely populated as Bangladesh, even small
scale shifts in ecological systems have a profound humanitarian

3 Metal Roofs
Overview of 3 Metal Roof Types For Residential Use
If your home needs a brand new roof, you may be researching all of the materials available to you
to narrow it down. While metal can be a popular choice, there are different kinds of metal materials
that have their own pros and cons. Understand the differences so that you can make an informed
decision.
Steel Roofing
A common metal material that is available to you is steel. This is because its popularity is often
due to its affordability, while also being a durable material that can withstand flying debris, high
winds, and frozen rain.
Steel roofs can benefit from having a zinc coating applied to them. It helps steel require less
maintenance over the years, since the coating will help the material ... Show more content on

It s cheaper than using copper, but will cost more than using steel. The biggest drawback with
aluminum is that the metal is soft, so it should be avoided in areas that have flying debris or high
winds that cause impact damage to a roof. The material does weigh much less than other metal
roofing materials, so it does tend to be installed faster and easier than copper or steel.
Aluminum will hold up well in climates that have a lot of rain, since the material will not corrode
like other types of metal roofing. You can purchase the material in shingles or sheets, which are
usually painted after they are installed to improve the overall aesthetics of the roofing material.
This will require additional maintenance over the years to give the material another coat of paint.
Copper Roofing
One of the most expensive metal roofing materials will be copper, but many homeowners go with
it because it s unique and beautiful in its appearance on a home. The material is also incredibly
durable with it being hard to damage, and it will not require any maintenance or cleaning after it is
installed. This makes it great for large homes that create difficulties when trying to access the roof.
A unique attribute of copper is how it is a heavy and thick roofing material, and its size won t
change when facing extreme heat in the summer. The material also changes color as it gets older
to a green blue hue, called the patina process, which is an aspect of it that many people like.

Ghetto In Nazi Germany
While under the jurisdiction of the Nazi Party (1933 1945), Europe s Jewish population
experienced an enormous amount of injustice. This is evident through Jews being denied refuge
from nations all over the globe in the build up to the Second World War. In addition, this belief also
becomes apparent via the isolation of Jewish people in ghettos. Furthermore, the extermination of
an estimated 3 million innocent Jewsin death camps proves that Jewish populace suffered a vast
amount of prejudice while the Nazi Party obtained control over Europe.
Many of the Jewish people attempted to flee Europe as life became increasingly more difficult;

created as part of the Final Solution to the Jewish Question the Nazis structured effort to
completely eliminate the Jewish population (The Danish Centre of Holocaust and Genocide
Studies. 2002.). In Chelmno, over 152 000 Jews were gassed to death using exhausts from
trucks. Belzec, Treblinka and Sobibor were then created under the codename Operation Reinhard
the purpose of this Operation being to kill all Jews in German occupied Poland (United States
Holocaust Memorial Museum. 2014.). Combined, approximately 1.75 million Jews perished in
these three camps. Additionally, two more death camps were created in the concentration camps
of Majdanek and Auschwitz Birkenau. Majdanek claimed the lives of 60 000 80 000 Jews.
However, it is determined that between 1 and 2 million Jews perished in Auschwitz. Although gas
chambers were the most common method of killing, another practise included mass shootings. In
Majdanek, an estimated 17 18 000 Jews were killed in an act of a mass shooting in 24 hours.

Keng s Reaction To Urras In The Dispossessed By Ursula Leguin
Dispossessed
Ambassador Keng s reaction to Urras in Ursula LeGuin s The Dispossessed implies that the
conditions on Earth are truly deplorable at the time the story takes place, consequently
commenting on LeGuin s perception of the state of the Earth at the time she was writing The
Dispossessed. and the Earthlings reaction to Urras supports LeGuin s claim that what is viewed as
utopic depends upon the viewer. In the book, Keng speaks little of what life is like on Earth, but it is
clear from what she does say, and from her reaction to Urras, that life on Earth in her time is
terrible. Throughout the book, the reader is exposed to many experiences on Urras that lead
Shevek to call it Hell (347). However, Keng explains that, To me, and to all my fellow Terrans who

planet must be far worse than life on Urras or Anarres. Like Shevek, Keng is an outsider on Urras:
We are both aliens here, Shevek. (347). Both hail from different foreign planets and are
therefore removed from the culture of Urras. But despite this shared experience, they have
vastly different views of the planet. Shevek despises Urras, as he feels the people are immoral
and value nothing of worth. The overarching philosophy of the planet centered on profit and
possession is at odds with Shevek s most basic beliefs of freedom and equality. Urras may be rich in
material goods, but Shevek finds it lacking in the qualities he sees are valuable, such as
brotherhood and compassion. For example, he compares Urras to a box, a package,

Global Warming And Its Effect On Ecosystems By Stimulating...
Abstracts
The uses of microcosm are resourceful in giving insight into the behaviors of larger scale systems.
global warming is increasing at escalating rate and could affect ecosystems. Ecosystems are a very
important part of humanity as they provide us with essential services to survive. It is important to
know the factors that could affect this. The use of microcosm experiments can be used to give
information into how ecological communities will be affected by climate change. In this study
sampled populations of the species Paramecium and Euglena were taken over 5 days at different
temperatures using PCR, Microscopes, Serial dilution and spectrophotometry techniques. The
results gathered form over the 5 days showed that increasing temperature over time has an effect on
the microcosms, negatively and positively. This experiment proved that the increase in temperature
through climate change has an effect on ecosystems by stimulating reproduction, interaction and
competition.
Introduction
Climate change through changes in the environment is rapidly increasing and creating a negative
impact on ecological services provided from biodiversity.
Ecosystems are essential to the sustenance of humanity as they provide us with many useful
services like food, energy, water and recycling. (Benton et al., 2007)
An ecosystem is made up of different types of plant and animal species which interact with each
other and most importantly with their environment as one functional unit. The

Limitations Of The UCI School Of Law
A limitation of this study was that there were only two different law classes observed and only
two interviews conducted. Through this study, over 8 hours of data collection. The classes at both
these observation sites were in different material, one being Criminal Law and the other being
Immigration Law and Policy, which may have been a limitation. This may have been a limitation
because there may be different students oriented towards these areas of law that could have
affected their responses. In addition, there was an unequal gender distribution of interviewees,
considering that both were female. In addition, these two sites provided different sample sizes, the
first being twice as large as the second, which may be a limitation when... Show more content on

Another credibility issue at these two observation sites is a difference in rankings, since the
University of California, Irvine School of Law is the twenty eighth best law school in the United
States, while no rank is published for Whittier Law School. There was also a bias in choosing both
these settings, given that they are both situated in Orange County. I am also an undergraduate
student at the University of California, Irvine, so I was familiar with the campus and the navigating
through the course schedules.
Implications
The findings of the current study have multiple purposes for the legal education system. These
results can be useful for current law school professors and students interested in pursuing a legal
education. Data shows that rankings have an impact on the prospective decisions of law students
and that it can shape their opinions on where to go to law school, but rejects important variables
that could affect the student s experience at the school. In expanding the variables taken into
consideration by these rankings, the U.S. News World Report could provide more realistic ratings
that enable students to choose a college that would be a good fit for them. Data shows the main goal
for law students is to become professionals and gain knowledge, instead of practicing law. Based on
these findings, it would be important to educate these students more about the legal professional
and other graduate programs during undergraduate education. Also,

Thyroid Carcinomas
Introduction Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common endocrine malignancy accounting for 1 %
of cancers worldwide, and its incidence is rising faster than many other cancers, with the highest
overall rate of increase in cancer deaths. The annual incidence varies considerably by geographic
area, age and sex. The increase is attributable to better detection of small carcinomas as a result of
improved diagnostic accuracy. However, the number of patients who die due to this disease also
increases [1]. TC is a heterogeneous disease that is classified into differentiated thyroid carcinoma
(DTC) (95 %), undifferentiated (anaplastic) thyroid carcinoma (ATC) and medullary thyroid

Clinical trials with various combinations of doxorubicin, bleomycin and a platinum based agent
have yielded unsatisfactory results, with response rates of 14 % [5]. Similarly disappointing, the
adverse events (AEs) profile of these drugs is dose limiting, with patients experiencing significant
neutropenia, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia and even congestive heart failure [6]. As the
results of conventional treatment modalities have been disappointing and therefore, new therapies
are needed. RAI resistant TC, metastatic MTC and ATC represent one of the most appealing
models for biological therapies. Recent years have been characterized by significant advances in
the understanding of the molecular basis of thyroid carcinogenesis. Many tumor initiating genetic
events have been already identified in TC. Interestingly, there is a typical morphological and
histopathologically disease presentation that consistently correlates with specific molecular
pathway deregulation, and some of its features are associated with more aggressive tumor
behavior. So, therapeutic agents that target involved biological abnormalities have been
identified. Multiple clinical trials have been carried out. In this review, we describe the role of
target therapy and some new modalities in TCs. Background on molecular biology Most of PTC

  • 2. Virulence Factors Of Cryptoccus Neoformans Cryptococcus neoformans (Cn) is a basidiomycete fungus that causes cryptococcosis worldwide in immunodeficiency and healthy individuals. In this pathogen, the elaboration of virulence factors including melanin and the capsule depends on intact intracellular trafficking, an essential cellular process also required for nutrient uptake, ion homeostasis, and receptor recycling. Our previous studies have found that Cn evolves a cryptococcal intersectin (Cin1) regulated endocytic pathway essential for growth and virulence. We have also obtained evidence linking Cin1 to extracellular RNAthrough RNA Seq and to CNS survival through co infection of a mouse model of cryptococcosis. However, how Cin1 governs the transport network affecting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specifically, we will find if Cin1 orchestrates the only endocytic pathway and how it affects host parasite interaction through regulating exRNA transport and mouse CNS survival. We propose three specific aims: Aim 1 is to determine if Cin1 mediates the sole endocytic pathway in Cn through identification and characterization of pathway components. Aim 2 is to examine the role of Cin1 in exRNA export through continued annotation and analysis of RNA Seq data. Aim 3 is to further explore the CNS survival advantage of Cin1 S by generating the Cin1 L strain using one step CRISPR Cas9 mutagenesis method we recently developed and testing it through co infection. Our central hypothesis is that intracellular trafficking is important in pathogen growth and interaction with a host resulting pathogenesis (our long term goal). We propose those specific aims to test the hypothesis that Cn evolves a distinct Cin1 endocytic pathway necessary for pathogenesis (short term goal). Through studying a fundamental cellular process and its adaptation to pathogenesis of Cn, our investigation could lead to the discovery of novel antifungal targets. 2. Specific Aims Cryptococcus neoformans (Cn) virulence depends on active transport of vesicles that contain melanin and capsule precursors, proteinases, and other macromolecules. We found that Cin1 is critical in mediating intracellular trafficking affecting growth and virulence and that Cin1 S isoform exhibits a marked survival advantage in the ... • 3. Analysis of Joan Didion’s Essay, On Going Home While reading Joan Didion s essay On Going Home one may be reminded of a sense of home and family. In this essay Didion recreates the feeling one gets when one visits a place from the past or while reminiscing about fond memories. This memory is marked by the reflective thought about the ability to be able to pass this same sense on to another. Didion s On Going Home is like a flood of warm memories leaving you with a single reflective thought. The way she uses description in this essay and the flow of events is very similar to the way that memories rush in when one returns to a familiar place from one s past. To someone that may not of experienced this phenomena the details described may seem to be disconnected and random. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each detail is seemingly distinct yet each shares the same sense of family and of personal history. Readers who share this same sense of home may be touched be the way Didion connects with them through her use of description. While she does not directly relate her point to the audience it is clearly present. Each element in the essay highlights not only the sense of family that is there but how they influence a person s perspective and attitude. While one shares in her journey through her past and her visits with her family it brings to mind how one may or may not have this same sense of family to pass on to their family or even have it themselves. This point is summoned in the closing paragraph when Didion herself reflects on this thought. The flow of this narrative may seem jumpy or disconnected and illogical to some but to others who share a similar perspective the details seem like a flood of memories. Every detail and element is timeless and independent of the others while at the same time holding a deeper connection shared with all of the others. Each detail holds a value that isn t noticed at first by others just like each of the items she mentions holds a value to her and her family but is lost on her husband who doesn t share the same sense of home with her. Didion well highlighted the issue that she felt about not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This presents the idea that music,in some ways, could be a secular alternative to religious practices and understandings or simply a way of experiencing spirituality in secular spheres. Frank:... listen to songs where I ve felt emotions and feelings that run past the specific context of the song ... this applies to more of my life than it should... a lot of people have had that with music... Ideas of transcendence and deep personal connection are apparent here. Juliette: Concert, not a gig ... a concert where you ve been a fan for ages. There s all these people, you re all in the same vibe... this person that you like, idolised. . . Florence and The Machine, her music is very spiritual... it s really deep...and relatable. . . . I don t know if I d call myself spiritual because I go to concerts and feel deep about it. . . . I guess [I listen to music] pretty much every day . . . If you compare it to religion, is like praying every day and then going to Church. So like, listening to music every day and then going to the concert. Initiation into a subculture, reflects initiation into religious rituals, thus, similar themes of spirituality emerge. • 6. Physical Health Problems The physical health problems caused by the computers for children Introduction The invention of the electronic tools e.g. computers make people lead an efficient and convenient life. The efficiency, convenience and practicability of the electronic tools e.g. computers attract both adults and children, and make them use these tools in their daily life (ThomГ©e, 2015). As has been seen, the use of computers and in adults work is becoming more frequent and majority of children use these tools in their daily life as well. However, the long time use of computers may caused some problems, and one of the problems is the physical health problem. When using a computer, no matter a laptop or a desktop, the user do not need to move. These behavior would normally be defined as sedentary behavior, which may make the user to do less physical exercise, fit less physically and suffer more risk of health problems. The problem may be solved by three solutions, the first seems to make children use computer in a right posture, the second may be some physical exercises and another solution seems to decrease children s time spent on computers. Physical health problem caused by computers According to Kimmerly (2009), over 90% of children aged 3 18 in the US used computers, and with children aged, more children started to use computer related activities. • 7. Mexican Immigration Research Paper THE MODERN ERA In 2014, 35 million Americans identified as Hispanic, of whom 64 percent said they had Mexican heritage almost 11 percent of the total population. As birthrates for Hispanics exceed those of Anglos, demographers estimate that by 2042 non Hispanic whites will be a numerical minority in the United States. At the beginning of this century, there were twenty one states where Hispanics were the largest ethnic minority. As a consequence, the nature of assimilation historically a conflicting process for Southwestern Anglos and Mexican Americans is likely to become less a matter of conformity to Anglo socials norms and more a process of cultural pluralism. The concept of cultural pluralism suggests that immigrants should assimilate to American culture by enriching American traditions with those that other cultures bring with them, expanding the American cultural landscape of art, cuisine, education, history, law, music, language, medicine and other aspects of life. Most recently, studies by the Pew Charitable Trust demonstrate that the number of illegal immigrants from Mexico entering the United States has actually been declining, resulting in a net negative number of Mexican immigrants entering the United States. Reasons for this trend include the Great Recession of 2008, and an improving economy in Mexican, making it more attractive for Mexicans to stay in Mexico. In addition, stepped up U.S. border enforcement has reduced the likelihood of success for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether creating a personal web space or building multiple pages for a large corporation, it is the burden of the designer to guarantee people can access that content. According to the United Nations, disabled people compose roughly 10 percent of the world s population (United Nations, 2010). Additionally, color blindness must be considered. There must be an alternative to images for individuals who cannot view them in their browsers as well (for example, alt= text ). In addition, the use of screen reading capabilities must be taken into account due to users that are visually impaired. For persons with hearing impairments, audio content must have a text alternative provided, besides this, for users who use alternative speech inputs, there should be a text equivalent. Web designers should also direct their attention to other disabling conditions such as the need for alternative navigation elements for people with learning disabilities or lower motor skills. There are also many tools available to web designers to ensure that their sites are compliant with current ADA laws. In accordance with the ADA s mission statement, the World Wide Consortium (W3) created the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). • 9. Memories of the Atomic Bomb Shown in Children Are Game ... Ask any two people if they remember where they were on 9/11 and you will receive a stunningly detailed description. However, if you ask those same two people for a detailed account of what happened that day you would receive two vastly different stories. Why is that? Well, memory is a very subjective thing. Public memory is subject to even more hazy recollections. Scholars, witness, and government officials all have different versions about the details. Often times it is artists who bring together these accounts by creating work which encourages public discussion. Two such artists are Isabelle Gardner, writer of the poem Children Are Game and Andy Warhol , painter of Atomic Bomb . These two artists contribute to the collective memory of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One could argue these children and the public memory of the bombs are similar. People knew the bomb was deadly, but continued to support the development of more bombs in the same way the children must have known what they were doing was dangerous, but they too continued risk their lives regardless of the warnings they must have received from their parents. Both the children and the people of the times are exhibiting purposeful forgetfulness. They both refuse to acknowledge what they are doing could be dangerous and have created a powerful trap for themselves. Gardner writes bombs can blossom in any season and people stuck in these delusions about the bomb not being a tremendous threat to humanity will be unprepared to deal with other of life s unpleasant realities. (Line 14) According to poet critic Ralph Mills, Gardener was most known for her ability to showcase The hidden fears and hesitancies we nourish in ourselves in a twisted effort to avoid encounters with the multifarious realities of the universe we inhabit (191). Her metaphor between children and society forgetting the dangerous natures of their activities in this poem is an excellent example of her this ability to reflecting back society s feelings about current events and contribute her own version of the bomb story to the collective memory of society. • 11. Respect and Why the Marine Corps Has a Rank Structure. Essay Respect and why the Marine Corps has a rank structure. There are very few things in the modern military of today or any military that has ever existed before our current military for that matter, that are more important than the rank structure and the the respect that is demanded of you by that rank structure. Those are two very important characteristics of every successful military unit. With added details here and there, in this essay I will mainly be discussing what respect actually is, how being respected is normally earned and in the military how it is demanded of you as a sub ordinate to any ranks higher than you or in some cases any fellow military personnel who is more senior to you and why. On top of that I will be covering... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We must see that potential. We all need respect, regardless of how immature and gay we behave. We all need others to see our potential and honor it to better encourage us to grow into it. Some respect sound judgement, some strength or power. Some respect altruism, some purposefulness. Parents and teachers may provide initial guidance but what you respect in a person is ultimately your privilege. A Privilege. However skewed my opinion might be the fact is that in most cases respect is earned by the actions towards an individual. All that being said the military works a little different. Respect in the military is demanded of you by your Superior Officers, NCOs and others of same rank that have three months more salt on there collar. The Plum Plum Pickers (RB) and The Sun Goes Down on Summer (SL) are two pieces that have been selected to be compared. The Plum Plum Pickers is a poem about a man, Manuel, who believes he is worked like an animal. Beast, savage, brute, predator, animal, locked, wreck; these are the words that are used to describe him. He s trapped in a never ending field of apricot trees. He wants to be himself, and he expresses that is the reason he quit football, he didn t know why he was playing, or who he was playing for. He says school is full of things that take away freedom and keep you from being who you really are. And that being yourself isn t easy. At the end of the poem, you see a resolution of his thoughts. He realizes that he might learn something about himself, and a new school year means a brand new start, and he comes to terms with his first day back to high school. Lawhead doesn t use sound very much throughout his poem. Although, he does use rhythm. He uses repeating and similar words and phrases to create emphasis. The beginning is slower and drags out to give a sense of anxiety, and starts to pick up near the end to give a sense of optimism. Lawhead s structure contains forty ... How Vacation Is A Vacation Billy Stringfellow Amy McWhirt Composition I, On line 11 May 2015 Come Sail Away Vacation is a time that most people, both young and old, look forward to with great expectation. Much thought and consideration are usually given regarding the details and planning of a vacation. Finding a great location with activities and dining options for all can be challenging. Our family struggled with this dilemma for many years, until we went on a cruise vacation. There, we found the vacation of our dreams. We had a solid week that we did not have to drive anywhere, cook, wash dishes, clean anything, or even make the bed. Because one can travel in luxurious accommodations to exotic ports of call, enjoy fine cuisine, service and entertainment for an economical price, cruising is the best vacation one can take. Cruise ships leave daily from locations all over the world and sail to many wonderful ports of call. One can go to the Caribbean, Mexico, Bahamas, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, or even take a cruise to nowhere to name just a few. Depending on the length of the cruise, the ship stops at particular locations and stays in port all day. One can enjoy the best excursion each port has to offer during the day, then return back on board that evening to cruise away to the next day s location. The only responsibility one has is getting back to the ship on time. Cruises can be as expensive or as economical as one desires them to be. It really just depends on the experience one is ... We see a change in this perspective in today s society as we have interracial families, where race plays little to no part in determining a couple s love for one another. However, we do still have families which believe their children should marry within the same race due to the fear of change within their own family. Such as, an individual s inquisitiveness about the drug and it s effect, predisposition, peer pressure, psychodynamic processes, homelessness, mental health illness and poverty. These can all offer ample motivation for experimental or circumstantial drug use. If taken repeatedly, a period of casual drug use often develops. Further usage associated with more frequent drug administration, higher drug dosages, and/or the use of more effective routes of administration (switching from intranasal to intravenous use) can lead to intensive patterns of drug use. Continued, more sustained drug use can then produce compulsive drug use where the substance has strong motivational properties and appears to govern much of the individual s behavior. The most extreme case of drug use is the final progression to addiction.

  • 18. Describe Platt s Methods Of Strong Inference Case Study Questions and Responses 1) Describe Platt s methods of strong inference. How does this method guide research programmes in terms of accuracy of conclusions, efficiency of resources and utility of planning for future research? Platt s methods of strong inference are post positivism. He asserts that counter productivity can occur when a single theory is adhered to and attachment occurs. The single theory method lacks efficiency and can be subject to confirmation bias. Strong inference is the method Platt encourages and proposes. Alternate hypotheses are a foundational part of strong inference. When creating an important experiment with the possibility of differing and alternative outcomes, each of which will, as nearly as possible, exclude one or more of the hypotheses . Furthermore, Platt proposes to run the experiment to get a clean result . Lastly, Recycling the procedure, making sub hypotheses or sequential hypotheses to refine the possibilities that remain, and so on . This type of research leads to improved accuracy of conclusions due to the nature of not depending on one hypothesis or the attachment to a single theory. Resources are efficiently used due to the logical progression of strong inference and the rapid nature conclusions. Platt states, It is clear why this makes for rapid and powerful progress. For exploring the unknown, there is no faster method; this is the minimum sequence of steps. Any conclusion that is not an exclusion is insecure and must be rechecked. Any delay in recycling to the next set of hypotheses is only a delay. Strong inference, and the logical tree it generates, are to inductive reasoning what the syllogism is to deductive reasoning, in that it offers a regular method for reaching firm inductive conclusions one after the other as rapidly as possible. Molecular biology is one example used by Platt. Systematic method of inference is credited with leading to a succession of pivotal experiments that caused the field of molecular biology to explode . It seeks to guide future research by following a logical structure to further research and lays a grounded foundation. Douglass had a great writing style that was descriptive as well as convincing. This meant that these bastard children were slaves despite their paternal heritage because their mother was a slave. The effect of this revelation was to shock and offend the morals of the conservative Northern whites. Northern society scorned people in adulterous and interracial relationships. By portraying these Southerners as immoral and adulterous, Douglass wanted to cultivate in his audience a damaging opinion of southern slaveholders (Quarles ix). Continuing with the theme of family values, Douglass shifts to the basic family unit. Their master separated Douglass and his mother when he was an infant, for what reason he does not know (Douglass 2). No one gave Douglass an explanation because this situation was customary on plantations. Douglass wanted to horrify his Northern white readers by informing them that slaveholders regularly split slave families for no apparent reason. This obviously would upset Northerners because the family unit was the foundation for their close knit communities. Multiple generations and extended families lived together or near each other. It was unimaginable to the readers that a society existed that took children away from their mothers without reason. Northerners would think of anyone who was part of such a society as a heartless monster (Quarles ix). • 32. Biography Of Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton s Antarctic... Introduction Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton was an Irish born British explorer who led an unsuccessful trans Antarctic expedition that nearly cost him and his crew of 27 their lives when his ship, the Endurance, was trapped and eventually crushed by ice. The Endurance party repeatedly faced what were surely going to be fatal situations; yet each time they beat the odds and survived. While their survival may be in some part due to luck or providence, Shackleton s leadership is widely credited with tipping the scales in their favor. This historic journey, documented in the WBGH film Shackleton s Antarctic Adventure (2001), reveals some examples of Shackleton s transformational and transactional leadership behaviors and traits. Shortly after Shackleton and his team arrived at Stromness, a boat was sent to rescue the other two crew members on the opposite side of South Georgia. Shortly thereafter, Shackleton set out in a borrowed ship to save the 22 men he had left behind on Elephant Island, but ice continually thwarted his attempts for more than four more months. Finally, on August 30, 1916, Shackleton was able to reach Elephant Island and rescue his stranded crew. As he neared land, he anxiously counted the figures on the beach and told his second in command Worsley, They re all there, Skipper. They are all safe (Shackleton s Antarctic Adventure (2001) @ 37:41). Miraculously, not a single life had been lost during the two year ordeal. Lessons in leadership Bass s (1990) transformational transactional leadership theory contains nine elements; charisma (or idealized influence), inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration, contingent reward, management by exception (active and passive), and Laissez Faire (no leadership). Shackleton demonstrated many of these leadership elements while leading his crewmen on the Endurance expedition. Shackleton was certainly charismatic. Even though the FBI had an 800 plus requirements document, the requirements were too complicated, incomplete and not sufficiently defined. Also the requirements documents focused more on the finer details of the system layout instead of the high level functions of the system (Goldstein, 2005). Failure of the VCF project was also caused by continuously changing requirements. During the project life cycle, the FBI made 400 change requests most of which had major impact on what was already designed and produced. 3.4Proper planning The VCF project lacked of proper planning. I am also an undergraduate student at the University of California, Irvine, so I was familiar with the campus and the navigating through the course schedules. Implications The findings of the current study have multiple purposes for the legal education system. These results can be useful for current law school professors and students interested in pursuing a legal education. Data shows that rankings have an impact on the prospective decisions of law students and that it can shape their opinions on where to go to law school, but rejects important variables that could affect the student s experience at the school. In expanding the variables taken into consideration by these rankings, the U.S. News World Report could provide more realistic ratings that enable students to choose a college that would be a good fit for them. Data shows the main goal for law students is to become professionals and gain knowledge, instead of practicing law. Based on these findings, it would be important to educate these students more about the legal professional and other graduate programs during undergraduate education. Also, ... • 52. Gyrotrons Essay Gyrotrons are the radiation source of choice for applications which require medium radiation powers from a few watts to several tens of watts at frequencies above 200 GHz. Gyrotrons look promising for plasma diagnostics and various pump probe spectroscopy methods. For instance, gyrotrons are already successfully used for dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) in nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) spectroscopy ( removed HTML ) ( removed HTML ) 1 5 ( removed HTML ) ( removed HTML ) where significant sensitivity enhancement was observed with sub terahertz irradiation power of 1 10 W. • 53. Thyroid Carcinomas Introduction Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common endocrine malignancy accounting for 1 % of cancers worldwide, and its incidence is rising faster than many other cancers, with the highest overall rate of increase in cancer deaths. The annual incidence varies considerably by geographic area, age and sex. The increase is attributable to better detection of small carcinomas as a result of improved diagnostic accuracy. However, the number of patients who die due to this disease also increases [1]. TC is a heterogeneous disease that is classified into differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) (95 %), undifferentiated (anaplastic) thyroid carcinoma (ATC) and medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). DTCs derive from the follicular epithelial cells, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clinical trials with various combinations of doxorubicin, bleomycin and a platinum based agent have yielded unsatisfactory results, with response rates of 14 % [5]. Similarly disappointing, the adverse events (AEs) profile of these drugs is dose limiting, with patients experiencing significant neutropenia, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia and even congestive heart failure [6]. As the results of conventional treatment modalities have been disappointing and therefore, new therapies are needed. RAI resistant TC, metastatic MTC and ATC represent one of the most appealing models for biological therapies. Recent years have been characterized by significant advances in the understanding of the molecular basis of thyroid carcinogenesis. Many tumor initiating genetic events have been already identified in TC. Interestingly, there is a typical morphological and histopathologically disease presentation that consistently correlates with specific molecular pathway deregulation, and some of its features are associated with more aggressive tumor behavior. So, therapeutic agents that target involved biological abnormalities have been identified. Multiple clinical trials have been carried out. In this review, we describe the role of target therapy and some new modalities in TCs. Background on molecular biology Most of PTC are associated with a mutation in one of three genes involved in the signaling of the mitogen activated protein (MAP) kinase pathway RAS, BRAF or RET/PTC ...
