W.T. Anderson s Efforts to Aid in Georgia s Advancement...
As editor of the Macon Telegraph from 1914 through 1940 , W.T. Anderson saw cities throughout the
Southern United States, such as Macon, characterized by sheer bedlam and agonizing dejection
following the Civil War. He sought to advertise the state of Georgia and the city of Macon as
progressive and reformed in order to attract the northern investors and capital necessary to revitalize
the region. Reforming state institutions and social climate, or at the very least creating and
maintaining the façade of Southern progressivism, became the primary focus of the Telegraph.
Following his arrival in 1914, Anderson took a progressive stance on lynching, a heinous act which
both made a mockery of the judicial system and race relations, in order to aid economic and
industrially advancement of the South, in particular Georgia, during this era.
Lynchings were commonplace, yet one of the most heinous acts of mob justice dealt out in the Jim
Crow era. Between the years 1880 and 1930, 3,343 lynchings occurred in the United States. Eighty
percent of lynchings occurred in the American South with the majority of these occurring in
Mississippi and Georgia (Manis 56). Macon was not an exception to the outburst of lynchings. Six
known lynchings occurred in Bibb County: one in 1880 s, one in the 1890 s, one in 1912, and three in
years spanning from 1918 to 1922 (Manis 57). The three lynchings that occurred from 1918 to 1922
came at a time when returning WW1 veterans, exposed to entirely

September 11 Airport Security Analysis
Firstly, one of the effects is airport and aircraft security, which has changed very significantly by
September 11. Prior to this event security had been controlled by each airport, which entrust to
personal security companies. However, according to Transportation Security Administration (n.d.), the
TSA (Transportation Security Administration) was created to tighten of the security of the nation s
transportation system in 2001 after September 11. Before September 11 happens airport security was
very simple. For example, the security did not scan all of passenger s baggage and passengers could
bring sharp things to the airplane such as sharp scissors and kitchen knives for cutting food. However,
now all baggage must be a x rayed and passengers required to walk through metal detectors. ... Show

There were 400 businesses in the World Trade Centre, which was destroyed, many lost employees and
more than 1,000 businesses in the area that was closed (Jasen, 2011, q.1). The NYSE was closed to
prevent a decline for six days. However, after reopening the NYSE they were lost around $1.4 trillion
in valuation for five days (Davis, 2011, q.4). In addition, September 11 impacted some of the industry,
which is airlines and insurance. Insurance firms were lost approximately $33 billion in insured losses.
The losses are property, business interruption, liability, event cancellation, worker s compensation and
life insurance (Jasen, 2011, q.4). Also airlines closed aviation system for four days after September 11.
As a result, they lost $1.4 billion in income. Moreover, security measures strengthened. It is

A Study On The Mammalian Diving Reflex
Introduction: The mammalian diving reflex represents a primary physiological mechanism to
maximize underwater excursions in air breathing animals. Traditionally, the oxygen conserving reflex
consists of three metabolic and cardiovascular adjustments: (1) notable bradycardia; (2) selective
peripheral vasoconstriction; and (3) increased blood flow to the viscera (Kawakami et al., 1967).
Previous studies have observed such a response in birds and mammals, generalizing the considerable
reduction of heart rate, or diving bradycardia, as indicative of the response (Butler, 1982). The
evolutionary success of these diving animals relies partly on the functional significance of reducing
metabolic demands to prologue underwater survival. Although ... Show more content on

Moreover, Gooden (1994) describes apnea as an essential element to the diving reflex; it ensures not
only the prevention of water inhalation, but also acts as an energy saving device through decreasing
nerve stimulation to the diaphragm and intercostals. Therefore, heart rate will be monitored under both
experimental conditions and compared to the resting rate and apneic resting rate. As a profound
autonomic phenomenon, further establishment of the diving reflex in humans will shed light on the
preservation of the reflex and its role in the survival during near drowning experiences. Only by
examining the physiological response in humans can we appreciate the evolutionary significance of
this innate neural circuitry.
Methods:
An untrained 22 year old male human subject was chosen. A PT 104 pulse plethysmograph was
wrapped around his dominant (right) index finger. Connected through a IXTA data acquisition unit,
heart rate was monitored on LabScribe. The recordings were measured with ten seconds of leeway at
the beginning and end to allow baseline pulse recovery. Digital marks labeled the time interval of the
described action. First the subject s heart rate was measured during a resting phase for twenty seconds.
He was encouraged to relax and remain inactive in order to confirm an accurate baseline reading. For

Sales Promotion Strategy
Sales Promotion Strategy
Sales are the lifeblood of a business, without sales there would be no business in the first place;
therefore it is very important that if a business wants to succeed, it should have a sales promotion
strategy in mind. The primary objective of a sales promotion is to improve a company s sales by
predicting and modifying your target customer s purchasing behavior and patterns. Sales promotion is
very important as it not only helps to boost sales but it also helps a business to draw new customers
while at the same time retaining older ones. There are a variety of sales promotional strategies that a
business can use to increase their sales, however it is important that we first understand what a sales

Sales promotions or term it as sales and promotion, together makes one. These promotions include
quite a lot of communication activities that would help in adding value or advantage to the customers,
retailers and wholesalers and others to kindle the sales. These things would help in rousing interest in
having a trail or purchasing the product or a service. Samples, premiums, contests, point of purchase
displays etc are some of the techniques that you can use.
There are some agencies having their sales promotions divisions, where they wholly depend only on
promotions. The functionalities for both the sales promotion and ad agencies are alike up to some
extent, but these sales promotions, promo staff are more consumerist. These promotions are vital for
proper marketing of services or products of a company. There are three categories of strategies namely
push strategy, pull strategy and combination of both.
A push strategy engrosses the intermediary channel members to push the product through the
distribution channels to end consumers through promotions. Companies promote the services or
products though the resellers who in turn promote it to another buyer or to the end customer. These are
the people who carry the brand though out the channel to reach the end

Bad Hooks Catch No Fish
Bad Hooks Catch No Fish
A good hook is what, best, brings a reader into any form of writing. If not, then all could be lost,
unless it is mentally forced upon. This is especially true for a novice, or introductory, reader getting
into the finer aspects of literature or composition. Such as, Paul Rankin s (2005) essay, on Hemingway
s Hills like White Elephants, lacks a motivated lead. The opening transition word could throw a reader
in the opposite direction Rankin would have hoped for. The beginning paragraphs poor lead could
cause one to become lost before the revelation of thesis which makes a poor asset to novice readers.
With the opening word Although (Rankin, p. 234) would make sense if a complete thought was
presented prior. It leaves one to ask, what this complete though could be. With this lingering thought
of what was the original, paves the way for a very complex sentence, which is still a continuation of
the leading thought. Now for someone venturing into the literary scene, to read a sentence of this
magnitude, could become hesitant to continue. Although, the composition of the first sentence is
artful, it could still be a hard read. Which, from a scholar s perspective is refreshing and at par. But the
little guy becoming a scholar has not earned his letterman mark yet. It is wise to be careful into
reading a sentence with complex composition of over 100 words. Additionally, the first sentence, a
summation of multiple views could introduce a novice

The Leading Fuel Ethanol From The United States
POET LLC is one of the leading fuel ethanol producers in the United States, operating twenty seven
corn to ethanol plants and one of only three corn stover to ethanol plants in the United States. The
success of the company has come from capitalizing on government policy. This policy under the EPA
s renewable fuel standard provides incentives in the market place. Due to this incentive along with
process innovation POET has grown into an industry leader. The company has a wide range of
intellectual property and is constantly pushing its employees to come up with new ideas and
processes. As an Associate Research Scientist, I am able to collaborate on new ideas first hand. I see
many new ideas come through the pipeline every day. Once an idea is developed it is subjected to
scrutiny, it must survive benchtop experiments, economic modeling, and ultimately a run through at a
research plant. Ultimately then trials are done at one of the twenty six plants that POET manages. This
whole process can be stopped at any time if an experiment fails, the economics do not make sense, or
if managers decide other ideas get priority of resources. I see firsthand that employees of POET are
expected to maintain confidentiality when it comes to intellectual property. All full and part time
employees are expected to sign non disclosure, confidentiality and non compete agreements upon
hiring. POET requires employees to have a training session about their intellectual property within the

The Limit Point Of Capitalist Equality
In the pursuit of equality many different attempts have been made to obtain this quality including
protests and laws or legal acts. However, no matter how many legal regulations are instituted, or
protests are held, true equality has never been accessed, and will never be accessed until there are
significant changes made to the ideology and mindset of the citizens of this country. Both Chris Chen
and Christine Delphy who advocate for race and gender equality respectively, are two authors who
believe that these radical changes must be made to create equality in society. They each give similar
yet different ways to alter the mindset of modern society. In her essay Rethinking Sex and Gender,
Delphy states that in order to truly gain equality among the sexes, we have to eliminate the idea of
gender altogether. On the other hand, in his essay The Limit Point of Capitalist Equality, Chen argues
that to eliminate racial inequality we need to change our mindset and stop defining race as physical or
cultural qualities that distinguish us, or thinking of it as a noun, and start thinking of race as the
institutional roadblocks put in front of people of color, or as a verb. Both of these alterations can seem
very drastic at face value, and would in fact be undesirable to many. However, once some of the ideas
of Chen and Delphy are superimposed upon one another, they illuminate how each one can be applied
to, and work in society. Also once these ideas are used consecutively, they

Classical Scientific Management Theory And Human Relations...
Introduction
This paper will be expressing a few of the different theoretical perspectives. This paper will be
discussing the Scientific Management, Cultural Perspective, Political Economic Theory, and Human
Relations Theory. It will also be discussing each of the key concepts that are associated within each
theoretical perspective. I will state some of the strengths and some of the weaknesses of each theory
that was mentioned above. Lastly, my opinion for each of these theories would be provided to give
you a look on how they are run in the society. I hope to give the reader and inside look on how these
organizations are being run.
Classical Scientific Management Theory Organizations have a variety of people, but each person

Conflict could resolve in losing employees due to how they are being treated within their work
environment. Management would be without employees and there would be loss of productivity.
Some of the strengths would be that the workers were experienced and know how to do their job/tasks
correctly. This is a strength because you have trustworthy professionals who know what they are doing
with that certain task. A weakness would be how the employees were silenced and overworked (Kirst
Ashman, 2014). This is a weakness because I know how being silenced can be. At my old job, we didn
t have much of a say and work became irritating to the point that I left. Not being heard on ideas does
have consequences. And in the scientific management theory there is no communication with
management.
Cultural Theory This cultural perspective is a theory that is being used all the time and will not
change. Cultures are seen as structured by two forms of constrain on individual behavior (Thompson,
Ellis, and Wildavsky, 1991). The cultural perspective on organizations believes that each of the
organizations establish a distinctive mixture of values, standards, presumptions, and practices about
how things should be done that eventually becomes a habit (Kirst Ashman, 2014). The cultural theory
is to go on with their tradition on what they are used to do. If it ain t broke, don t fix it (Kirst Ashman,
2014). Because of how much they are used to their way working, it becomes

The Importance Of Kinship In Cultural Anthropology
Kingsborough Community College
Importance of Kinship in cultural anthropology
Student: Amulang Mantsynov
Professor: Igor Pashkovskiy
Kinship has traditionally been one of the key topics in social and cultural anthropology. There are two
primary reasons for this. First, although not all communities are constituted on the basis of kinship, all
humans have a kinship as individuals and are related to other individuals through it. Second, for the
sorts of tribal, classless, economically unspecialized societies that anthropologists have mostly though
no longer exclusively studied, kinship has appeared to be the main or even sole form of social
organization. These observations led various theoretical approaches, especially the schools of
functionalism and structuralism within social anthropology, to focusing on how social groups are
formed. They got interested in studying of how individuals are related to one another through kinship,
and what kinds of mutual rights and duties they have as a result. (R. Parkin. Kinship)
Parkin (2012) also points out that unlike the functionalists and structuralists, cultural anthropologists,
elected to focus more greatly on the symbolic rather than socio practical aspects of kinship. They are
interested in the meanings attached to being a particular sort of relative. They also study how symbols
of and perspectives on an individual, the body, and gender tell kinship ideas and practices. In broad
terms, a study of kingship from the symbolic standpoint has prevailed in America since the beginning
of the twentieth century and periodically has been reinvented and by the 1970s become more
influential in world anthropology, especially in its poststructuralist phase. The field of study of a
kinship can be divided into three major categories: descent (that is, relations between generations);
affinity (marriage); and siblingship. However, the siblingship hasn t been studied as widely as the first
two categories. (R. Parkin. Kinship).
By the definition provided in the New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, kinship is a relation between
two or more persons that is based on common ancestry (descent) or marriage (affinity). In his work

Hypothesis:
Tata Nano wanted to bring in a cheap car into the market which would be affordable for the middle
income level consumers, due to which it started cutting cost of manufacturing the car.
There were several assumptions made:

reason handbrakes were not provided, this was even done to further cut down the cost.
H2: Pricing Nano is priced at a range where it is too expensive for the lower middle class and too

The Simpsons is an American situation comedy created by Matt Groening. The first episode of The

Hurricane Neddy which focuses on the character Ned Flanders as his family goes through a rough

At the beginning of the episode when people are warned that there will be a hurricane, everyone turns
on each other by stealing, fighting and breaking things, for their own personal wealth, not worrying
about anyone else, the creators of the show purposefully exaggerate, this is in reference to what would
happen in anarchy, or post apocalyptic events, movies such as, The Purge, Mad Max 2 and I am
Legend cover this topic in more depth. Later in the episode, Ned Flanders asks, why did the hurricane
destroy only my house, I donate to 8 different churches and follow everything the bible says. This is
making fun of how much he heavily relies on the several churches to bring him security and wealth,
this pokes fun at the people in society think that giving to a church or several different churches will
grant them safety or wealth. Another satirical moment was in Ned Flanders flashback to when he was
young, when his parents couldn t control him, because they didn t believe in rules, they went to a
doctor and told him, we ve tried nothing and we re all out of ideas. The creators of the show are
making fun of the parents that don t discipline their kids.
In conclusion the creators of The Simpsons use many different methods such as satire, characterisation
and surrealism. Surrealism creates unrealistic elements that could not happen in real

A Lady of Letters and Cream Cracker under the Settee by Alan Bennett The two monologues I am
going to be writing about are two elderly women who are lonely and trapped in their own homes. I
will be talking about how Doris, one lady from Cream cracker under the settee and Irene, the other
lady in Lady of letters are suffering from loneliness. Doris and Irene both live alone. They don t seem
to have any special friends. For example, Irene doesn t like being people calling her Irene. People who

Like when she complained to the council about a curb being cracked, little things like this are quite
amusing to see such an intelligent women making a fuss. Irene and Doris also have some things in
common. They both have lost loved ones in their lives. This is an important story line in both
monologues, as I will explain later on. The music in these monologues feels the emotions of what the
characters are feeling. When there is a scene where Doris or Irene is happy, the music will go along
with the expressions. I could tell when the topic came up on the loved lost ones it was a very dramatic
time for Irene and Doris. The music drained out the room with a slow deep beat of a bellow. This
makes the monologues more realistic with the different types and style of music, and with the pauses
where no music is played at all. Cream cracker under the settee and lady of letters are both set in
houses. Which are very stereotypical houses for the elderly, with the dull colours, except in these
houses they have horrible bars on their windows that couldn t make Doris and Irene feel very
comfortable. There are a number of things I could write for Doris and Irene, imprisonment, lack and
loss and the endings of the monologues. But I have chosen to go in deeply about the loneliness and
how it has affected them. I feel that this topic is one of the main structures of the monologues. IRENE

Men As An Object Of Society Analysis
Men as an Object of Society
A lethal duel between Major von Crampas and Baron von Instetten had taken place in the seaside
resort of Kessin in Eastern Pomerania, resulting in the death of the major (Fontane Chapter 29 ). The
duel occurred as a result of the Major having a love affair with the Baron s wife six years ago, and was
revealed through the previous love letters that had been discovered in the wife s sewing table.
Wüllersdorf, a lawyer and friend to the Baron, was immediately summoned to deliver the challenge of
the duel and to act as a second in the affair (Fontane Chapter 27 ). Dueling had become a common
practice in Germany, much to the point that it questions whether this practice is an act of one s

Being considered a coward is the true insults to male honour that men including Innstetten felt if he
did not provoke a duel. Likewise, the challenged party such as Crampas would feel equally obliged to
accept the duel; otherwise he would infinitely suffer the criticism from the larger society (Frevent
176). The Baron was quick to notify Wüllersdorf with a note regarding the affair, which he should
have controlled his emotions (Fontane Chapter 27 ). Even when Wüllersdorf had vowed to keep silent
of the affair, Innstetten not wanting to be the object of his sympathy, considered it too late to undo the
dueling request (Fontane Chapter 27 ). He took his pride seriously, and was convinced that duel was
the only solution even when his happiness was at stake (Fontane Chapter 27 ). Nevertheless, Innstetten

another discussion with a counselor. While a written contract cannot guarantee that Manuel will not
choose to harm himself during this period, adolescents who sign this type of contract will typically

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Surfactant
Conventional surfactant:
Traditionally various chemical process are carried out to synthesis most of the commercial surfactant.
Petrochemicals are being used as raw materials for production of surfactant, due to their huge
availability, cost, and performance. For example some petrochemical are as follows paraffin, benzene,
olefin fatty alcohol, fatty acid, and ethanol amine, ethylene oxide, propyl oxide etc.
Limitation of Conventional surfactant:
1. Toxic by product formation: a very complex reaction are carried out to synthesize a petrochemical
based surfactant, due to the complex reaction and various type of raw materials leads to formation of
some by products or isomers of main product, these may be cause of environmental, health safety ...

Examples Of Operant Conditioning
The section of this Chapter that I found to be interesting was Operant Conditioning. It was interesting
how we can train and produce a behavior that is more probable to recur with positive and negative
reinforcements. When we are presented with a positive reinforcer, we strengthen the probability that a
response will recur (pg 114). For example, when we are training a dog to do tricks, we reward the dog
with a treat every time the trick is performed correctly. With negative reinforcers we use unpleasant
stimuli that strengthens a behavior by their removal (pg 115). When teach a dog to heel, we may use a
harness around the dogs body. When the dog is pulling away, the harness creates an uncomfortable
pressure. When the dog is walking in the right spot that pressure is then remove. With negative
reinforcement we hope that the dog will get to a point that it avoids the pressure and and heels by our
side. This type of training is referred as escape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we yell at a dog for not dropping his toy immediately, when he finally does, he may be confused of
what the punishment is for. If receiving too much positive punishment the dog could become fearful of
its trainer as oppose to learning his actions are wrong. Our own attitudes and behavior could also
affect how we use positive punishment. When we come home and see a mess on the carpet, our anger
may cause us to use more positive punishment than needed. In a video by the Dunlap Training
Solutions, they state that the use of positive reinforcement and negative punishment are the best ways
in training a dog. Their explanation of using Operant conditioning in dog training can be seen here

Even though I was drawn to this section of the chapter, how we learn and how we teach others to learn
is an amazing part of psychology. With enough patience we can almost teach a dog to do anthing.

Radiation and chemotherapy may only partially penetrate a tumor; remaining malignant tissue will
allow the cancer to reoccur within the patient. Incomplete tumor removal is a risk associated with
surgical removal of cancerous tissue.3 Additionally, studies have shown that radiation promotes
cancerous cell growth. Radiation promotes a cellular process known as autophagy, which supports
metabolic functions while a cell is living with some sort of environmental stress. Typically, the cell
will degrade longstanding organelles and proteins to recycle the molecular units of macromolecules.
This becomes an alternate source of nutrients during cell survival. Within a premalignant cell,
autophagy will prevent a cell from replicating if it is cancerous. Once the cell has become malignant,
it is living under environmentally stress induced by hypoxia and nutrient depletion. Malignant cells
are dependent of autophagy for survival, and radiation promotes autophagy; this, radiation promotes
cancer.4 Current cancer treatments have high risks of harsh side effects and a high probability of
reoccurring cancer. There is an urgent need for new anticancer therapies; compounds derived from the
natural products of bacteria and fungi have been investigated as a possible solution. The natural
product industry gained popularity around1970 1980 and the primary focus is to determine the

Liberal Arts Degree Research Paper
From the outside, it is hard to see why I would want to earn a liberal arts degree. Time and time again,
the lifetime earnings of workers who studied in the liberal arts are outpaced by their peers who worked
in engineering. These hard sciences of math and engineering are lauded as the right choice for future
success by ambitious parents and counselors, while liberal arts degrees are the butt of jokes. However,
for me, a liberal arts degree means a lot more than just making money. It means a global vision and
universality across disciplines, as well as many future opportunities to change the world radically.
The first thing Liberal arts degrees offer that other fields cannot is global vision. While I could work
all day in a laboratory or classroom and discover new organisms or new theorems, those discoveries
would stay within the scientific community and become a dead dogma of sorts, a truth that is neither
argued nor applied in the real world. With a liberal arts degree, especially one ... Show more content

Deceptive Advertising
Deceptive advertising has been around since the beginning of time and still prevalent today.
Sometimes it is done unknowingly by an advertiser, however more often than not; it is done with the
intent to mislead the consumer making deceptive advertising a relevant marketing ethics issue.
Deceptive advertising is a growing trend among business in our society. This trend includes directly
trying to deceive consumers into thinking that they are getting something great but in reality they are
getting nothing. All age groups are targeted by deceptive advertising it is just a matter of how

According to the Better Business Bureau, an advertisement as a whole may be misleading although
every sentence separately is considered true. Second, the Federal Trade Commission examines the
misrepresentation from the view of a reasonable consumer or particular target group such as the
elderly. And finally, the representation, omission or practice must be a material one . This means that
if the misrepresentation is likely to affect the consumers decision whether or not to use or purchase a
certain product or service, this is considered material since the consumer may have decided differently
if not for the deceptive advertising (Federal Trade Commission, 1998[on line]). The 1990 s have
brought on some new targets for deceptive advertisers as well as a new focus for Federal Trade
Commission and the Better Business Bureau. The main target of the 90 s include: antioxidant claims,
the diet industry for misrepresenting weight loss claims, environmental or green marketing claims for
products claiming that they are good for the environment and are not, 900 numbers for

Happiness By Robert Nozick
Noora Hosheshi
Introduction
In The Examined Life, philosopher Robert Nozick lists three conceptions of happiness, which he calls
the three forms of happiness (Nozick, p. 108). The third form of happiness is defined satisfaction with
life as a whole being able to look back on one s life and be satisfied with what one has
done/experienced (Nozick, p. 110). He argues it is easy to understand why people long for this type of
happiness, as it is pleasurable to experience in itself. This is, if evaluation of one s past experiences are
correct, and said experiences are valuable to the individual. By placing emphasis on the value of
meaningful experience in life, Nozick s argument implies one should avoid a vapid existence. At the

2. P4. The third form of happiness is desirable (Y).
3. CII. It s then easy to understand why people want/desire this third form of happiness (C, Modus
Ponens).
Correct evaluation of one s life is important to the third form of happiness being truly experienced. If
the emotion of happiness fits people s lives meaning, they have valuable experiences giving them
reason to be happy while reminiscing the positive evaluation they have made of their lives is correct
(Nozick, p. 112). The second portion of Nozick s argument states a life evaluated by this condition of
the third form of happiness is desirable (E):
P5. If the third form of happiness is found to be fitting (F), the component beliefs of the third form of
happiness must be true (B).
P6. If said component beliefs (B) of the third form of happiness are found true, the life evaluated by
the third form of happiness (H) has value (V).
P7. If the life evaluated by the third form of happiness (H) has value (V), life evaluated by the third
form of happiness is found desirable ( P4)
P8. The third form of happiness is fitting (F)
P9: The third form of happiness is both fitting (F) and desireable (P4)

Abstract Neurodegenerative diseases causes a wide variety of mental symptoms whose evolution is
not directly related to the analysis made by radiologists on basis of images, who can hardly quantify

The Use Of Cell Phones While Driving
It is known that the use of cell phones while driving decreases driver awareness and overall road
safety, and in response to this knowledge, some states have passed laws that have prohibited the use of
handheld devices. However, there are no laws banning hands free cell phone usage, despite research
claiming hands free devices are just as dangerous handheld devices, but does their usage distract
drivers enough to the point where states should legally ban the total use cell phones while driving?
The following will introduce arguments for both sides of this topic, one for hands free cell phone

Additionally, the cell phone group rated themselves worse in driving performance before and after the
simulator. This indicates that driver performance is impaired by cell phone use and drivers generally
know their driving is worse when using hands free devices, therefore, the use of such devices should
be illegal. Other evidence against hands free cell phone use while driving is simply that talking on
hands free devices is just as bad as talking on handheld devices in relation to driver performance
(Ishigami Klein, 2009). To determine this, Ishigami and Klein (2009) reviewed the results of several
separate studies that investigated the impacts of handheld and hands free cell phone usage on the
detection reaction times of drivers. These studies were: Abdel Aty (2003), Burns et al. (2002),

The Allegorical Nature of The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson
Hit it! Hit it! Hit it! Don t lose your aim, because if you lose it, you lose the way. A birthday party
without a piñata just doesn t seem to be a birthday party. There s a joy that tiptoes up and takes over
the whole party when the expectation of candy, the ability for young children to handle a bat and
destroy something, and parents can mess with the little children. The element of danger and malice all
in good fun is in the air and it makes a giddy happiness that is addictive to the point where they are
giggling and laughing before they know they are or the reason why they are. Handling a bat
blindfolded while laughing hysterically is a time that nobody should miss. In The Lottery, by Shirley
Jackson, things are done the way they have always been done, even if there is no reason why. Certain
people remember where the rituals created, and certain people seem to know why they are important.
Yet tradition is important, so they continue. The Lottery is an excellent example of an allegorical short
story. Jackson uses symbolism through the description of the characters, significant objects, and the
actions in the story.
Consider two important symbols in the story the box and the stool. The postmaster, Mr. Summers,
followed by Mr. Graves, carried the three legged stool and put it in the center of the square. He set the
black box down on it. The old box is black. Black is associated with power, elegance, formality, death,

Final Reflection For Research Paper

Technology is often used for the wrong reasons in the classroom. Teachers find a new idea and jump
on the technology band wagon without considering if this is the best use for the digital tool. When
planning lessons using technology, consideration needs to made as to how the tool will enhance the

I love the challenge of new technology and am always on the lookout for ways to engage students in

Country Music Essay
The debate whether commercialism has stripped country music of its authenticity is one that requires
further examination into who ultimately holds the power. The sometimes drastic changes made in
music leaves people questioning the tastes of consumers when in fact they are the bystanders of an
overpowering industry. Fans are people who buy the albums, go to concerts, and request songs on the
radio, not the execs that market the music, and yet their opinions/tastes aren t taken into consideration.
Fans carry a lot of clout in regards to what they define as commercialism gone wrong and acceptable
country music. Despite what may seem fair, those who are financially invested in its success drive the
commercialization of music.
According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The feelings of comfort and unity transcend the essence of what country music represents.
However, the power struggle between music executives and artists compromising these markers has
been an ongoing battle. The commercialization of country music tries to implement these markers
while brining to light a new sound for country music, The Nashville Sound. This new sound of
country music introduces background singers, pianos, polished voices and much more sophisticated
types of enhancements. Hank Williams, and Patsy Cline were two artists that thrived within the era of
the Nashville Sound despite the influences of commercialism. The concept of a big country showcase
striped music of its roots and deprived fans of what they really yearned for, simplicity and
genuineness. The simplicity of earlier country music is undermined by the technological interference
of its instrumentation. Simplicity meant one voice with a banjo, guitar, or harmonica accompaniment.
The early country music industry presented the world with an artist just the way he or she was, no
glitz, glamour or frills.
Within the new era of the Nashville Sound it brings along with it overbearing producers and record
labels with their own hidden agendas. He has cooked up a sound all his own: hot, fierce, overbearing,
full of energy and desire, a sound to jump right out of the jukebox. But Phillips wants money, a lot of
it, and he wants to set the world on its ear (Elvis: Presliad, 142). What ever happened

Ray Bradbury Sameness
All Summer in a Day written by Ray Bradbury is a science fiction short story. Margot is from Earth,
living on Venus. Margot and her classmates are excited to see the sun. All of Margot s classmates but
they lock her in a closet and go enjoy the sun while she islocked in the closet. All Summer in a Day
teaches readers that sameness is bad because there is no change and no experimenting with the world.
One way that sameness has a negative impact on the people is the weather. For example, It had been
raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the
other with rain (Bradbury). On Venus they are not accustomed to change they only experience rain.
They have not seen the sun for seven years. They only experience rain everyday the same thing one
after another. This is a good example of sameness because they only experience rain. It is important to
notice that all day everyday it is constantly raining. The purpose of these words is to ... Show more

This presents how separate Margot is and how her classmates recognize that and decide to keep away.
This is bad because we are all different and our differences need to be recognized. I chose this quote
because it empathises how much the children recognize Margot s difference and think it is a bad thing.
Finally, a fourth example of sameness and separation is, They surged about her, caught her up and
bore her, protesting, and then pleading, and then crying, back into a tunnel, a room, a closet, where
they slammed and locker the door (Bradbury). When Margot s classmates lock her in a closet it is
located in the middle of the story and at the climax. It is important to notice that Margot will not see
the sun because she is locked in a closet. It is the make or break part in the story because all Margot
wants is to see the

Pickup Truck Research Paper
Due to numerous car accidents and deaths, I think riding in the back of a pickup truck should be
illegal. I ve always heard that it s illegal to ride in the back of a pickup truck in some states such as
Georgia and Colorado because of seatbelt laws and light restrictions. On the other hand, other few
states have no laws about riding in the back of a pickup truck because of agricultural activities, special
events, emergency situations and etc. Also, some of the states contain rural areas where pickup trucks
are needed for work uses and farming operations. The purposes of a pickup truck are designed to carry
cargo or heavy object, not people. People find many ways to avoid this law by restricting more
passengers to make it seem secured for other

Global Business Cultural Analysis
Global Business Cultural Analysis: Thailand
Rhonda C. Scott
Liberty University
Abstract The country of Thailand is an emerging nation in the globalized world. Over the past two
decades, the country has experienced a multitude of changes in the political, economic and
international arenas. As a nation, it has survived the economic crisis of 1997, the tsunami of 2004, the
government coup in 2006, the flooding of 2011 and is preparing for a change in the views of the
nation with the demise of their king. The AIDS explosion in the late eighties and early nineties seems
to have targeted the country and the sex industry placing Thailand on the map for many of the wrong
reasons. As Thailand continues to confront its own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

it is the second largest religion in the world. The majority of those of Islamic faith is in the

The country allows for religious freedom and practice and is tolerant of the individual religious beliefs

Kevin Hart Research Paper
When reality hits and you see that you ain t growing no more, there s a part of you that realizes it s
time to give up, Hart says. But I just ignored that part. In my mind I was still the tallest kid in the
fourth grade. That s when I was on fire. I played forward. I think I might have technically been the
same height from fourth grade to eighth grade. But I just refused to acknowledge it. People would say,
What are you doing out here, shorty? (Accept And Delude Yourself). Kevin Hart is a well known
comedian and understands the harsh reality in life giving him the recognition of being a celebrity.
With being a celebrity, Kevin has also accomplished a lot of career goals and has won many awards
ranging from Best Actor Award to the Christopher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kevin Hart s childhood was very rough since his father, Henry, drank and did drugs. As a protector
and mother to Kevin, Nancy Hart kicked Henry out of the house. However, Kevin lost his guardian in
2007 when she sorrowly passed away. Kevin then fell into depression until he found comedy. Later he
would say, As a coping mechanism, the young Hart found humor to battle back the pain of his
childhood (Bio.com). This incident lead him to start his comedy line. This also has an affect on other
aspiring comedians when Kevin made it big. It had an effect on aspiring comedians because it give
inspiration on where to get jokes from. Another way Kevin has influence on aspiring comedians is his
family. This particular family member is his father Henry. Henry has a reputation of being a very bad
dad considering his criminal record, the experiences told by Kevin, and his time outside of the family
house. An example of this was when Henry, was in and out of jail and rarely around (Bio.com). There
was really a place where Kevin got many of his jokes from and that was his father. But the two, even
though they disagreed on a lot, they eventually made up and they were close until 2007 when Henry
died of ovarian cancer. The last way is his whole comedy script and where that comes from. Kevin s
humor comes from a special place that is sacred to him and that is his shady childhood. He gets his
humor from the messed up things in his life, so he does not have to come up with everything on the
spot like most comedians do. An example of this is, The jokes, He has said of his stand up, come from
a real experience (Bio.com). Most of Kevin s jokes are how it is. It also shows other comedians do not
have to make fun of other things, they could be like Kevin and make fun of himself. These jokes are
not fabricated, but true and terrible. These events in his life show how Kevin has aspired to become a

Daimler Daimler, an automobile company founded in 1998 and headquartered in Germany is the
owner of Mercedes Benz, one of the most recognizable car brands in the world. Daimler is a Fortune
500 company and produces an array of luxury automobile products including, but not limited to, cars,
trucks, motorhomes, and buses. Mercedes Benz and Daimler products are recognized and driven

Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR, is an initiative companies voluntarily take part in to give
back to the local and global community. There are numerous domains of corporate social
responsibility, such as environmental conservation and sustainability, diversity and equal employment
opportunity, and volunteer service projects and charitable giving. The number of companies
embracing the practice of corporate social responsibility has increased in recent years, as the public
has formulated higher expectations that companies act responsibly. Numerous companies have given
in to this pressure and have adopted policies to show the public that they value the different domains
of CSR. However, despite this attempt to become more socially responsible, companies may excel in
some areas while they lag in others, leading to a mixture of both positive and negative CSR within the
same company. Daimler is one company that has both positive and negative CSR practices, with the
company leading by

Feminism in Sor Juana Essay
Feminism in Sor Juana
In Estela Portillo Trambley s play Sor Juana the main character Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz was
considered to be one of the earliest feminists. Sor Juana s eternal struggles to study and unshakable
craving for knowledge and wisdom, from whatever source it may be, support this attribute. In my
opinion however, there are also significant elements of the play that suggest that Sor Juana would not
be considered a true feminist. Of these reasons, there are three major ones that I will analyze. The first
reason is that Sor Juana gave up her struggle for the acquirement of knowledge from books and settled
for reading from religiously accepted writing, essentially giving up what she had been originally
fighting for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This whole progression of events is evidence that Sor Juana was never a true feminist. Although she
was an assertive and determined young woman earlier in life, Sor Juana learned to accept the way the
world was, abandoned what feminist ideals she had had, and devoted her later life to pleasing God and
being a good nun.
Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, as portrayed in Trambley s play is only concerned with her own desires.
She never shows interest in other women s rights and she never speaks to other
women about the idea of equal rights. She does not encourage her fellow females to fight to attend
colleges and learn. It is like to Sor Juana, there is no such thing as another woman who desires the
same things as she. To me this limits the extent to which Sor Juana could be called a feminist. She
never, in any way, attempted to fight for the rights of anyone beside herself, and for no thing besides
the freedom to study and become learned. It is much more applicable to refer to Sor Juana as one of
the first in a sort of evolutionary linearity of what finally became feminism. At the low end of the
evolutionary spectrum are characters like Sor Juana. She was forthright and assertive about what she
desired, but she lacked the ability or means to organize or extend her struggle to any topic area that did
not directly interest her. When Sor Juana says, My journey

Battle Of Guilford Courthouse Essay
On the Thursday morning of March 15, 1781 in North Carolina, the Battle of Guilford Courthouse
took place. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse is part of the American Revolution that took place
between 1775 and 1783. This battle was between the British and the Americans because the
Americans no longer wanted to be governed by the British. They believed that they could run the
country by themselves without England s help. Although most of the battles during the American
Revolution took place in the North, the Battle of Guilford Courthouse took place in the woods and
fields of Greensboro, North Carolina. The Americans were backed up by the French and the British
campaigned in hopes of recruiting American colonists who were still loyal to Great ... Show more

That morning the light frost was just beginning to melt, but the air was still cold. The battle began at
about noon that day and lasted for approximately two hours before it came to an end. Nathanael
Greene s tactic to win the battle was to line his men up in three parallel rows. The battle started with
the cannons being fired rapidly at their enemy. Greene s men began to panic and then began to scatter
in every direction. The troops heavily fought on both sides, but in the end, Nathanael Greene and his
troops decided to retreat. The British may have won the battle, but they ended up suffering tremendous
losses. After this battle, Cornwallis decided to forget campaigning and instead decided to take his
army to Virginia, where in October of that very same year, he surrendered to General George
Washington. After the battle, Greene returned south and again took control over most of the Carolina s
and Georgia. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse was the second to last major battle of the American
Revolution.
During the battle, more than twenty five percent of Cornwallis s men lost their lives. One British
lawmaker, Charles James Fox said Another such victory would ruin the British army. Nathanael
Greene s army suffered seventy nine deaths, one hundred and eighty five men were wounded, and
another seventy five men were captured. Lord Charles Cornwallis s army suffered ninety three deaths,
four hundred and thirteen men were wounded, and another twenty six men were

Speech Language Pathology Intervention Paper
Introduction:
In the field of speech language pathology parent education and involvement in treatment programs can
be very beneficial to a client s progress(TEMPEL). Evidence supports the use of programs that
contain interactive approaches to speech and language intervention(LORRAINE). The importance of
education is often recognized but can be difficult to deliver. The challenge of providing an effective
parent/ caregiver education is an issue that Speech Language Pthologists may come in contact with.
While some speech language pathologists may choose to deliver parent education using their own
methodology , a large number may opt to participate in teaching methodology and coaching

Parents are very important to the intervention process so educating parents on how to facilitate their
child s language and speech could potentially be very helpful to the child s progress(ALEEN
MARHSall) Typical Speech Language Pathology intervention only happens at most for a 1 2 hours a
few times a week, but there are many opportunities to increase a child s speech and language outside
of therapy. Many parents are not aware of how to do this or the opportunities, which is why programs
such as Hanen were created.
The Hanen program seeks to educate parents on ways that they can provide language and speech
opportunities in a more naturalistic environment and foster language and speech development.

  • 2. W.T. Anderson s Efforts to Aid in Georgia s Advancement... As editor of the Macon Telegraph from 1914 through 1940 , W.T. Anderson saw cities throughout the Southern United States, such as Macon, characterized by sheer bedlam and agonizing dejection following the Civil War. He sought to advertise the state of Georgia and the city of Macon as progressive and reformed in order to attract the northern investors and capital necessary to revitalize the region. Reforming state institutions and social climate, or at the very least creating and maintaining the façade of Southern progressivism, became the primary focus of the Telegraph. Following his arrival in 1914, Anderson took a progressive stance on lynching, a heinous act which both made a mockery of the judicial system and race relations, in order to aid economic and industrially advancement of the South, in particular Georgia, during this era. Lynchings were commonplace, yet one of the most heinous acts of mob justice dealt out in the Jim Crow era. Between the years 1880 and 1930, 3,343 lynchings occurred in the United States. Eighty percent of lynchings occurred in the American South with the majority of these occurring in Mississippi and Georgia (Manis 56). Macon was not an exception to the outburst of lynchings. Six known lynchings occurred in Bibb County: one in 1880 s, one in the 1890 s, one in 1912, and three in years spanning from 1918 to 1922 (Manis 57). The three lynchings that occurred from 1918 to 1922 came at a time when returning WW1 veterans, exposed to entirely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prior to this event security had been controlled by each airport, which entrust to personal security companies. However, according to Transportation Security Administration (n.d.), the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) was created to tighten of the security of the nation s transportation system in 2001 after September 11. Before September 11 happens airport security was very simple. For example, the security did not scan all of passenger s baggage and passengers could bring sharp things to the airplane such as sharp scissors and kitchen knives for cutting food. However, now all baggage must be a x rayed and passengers required to walk through metal detectors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. A Study On The Mammalian Diving Reflex Introduction: The mammalian diving reflex represents a primary physiological mechanism to maximize underwater excursions in air breathing animals. Traditionally, the oxygen conserving reflex consists of three metabolic and cardiovascular adjustments: (1) notable bradycardia; (2) selective peripheral vasoconstriction; and (3) increased blood flow to the viscera (Kawakami et al., 1967). Previous studies have observed such a response in birds and mammals, generalizing the considerable reduction of heart rate, or diving bradycardia, as indicative of the response (Butler, 1982). The evolutionary success of these diving animals relies partly on the functional significance of reducing metabolic demands to prologue underwater survival. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, Gooden (1994) describes apnea as an essential element to the diving reflex; it ensures not only the prevention of water inhalation, but also acts as an energy saving device through decreasing nerve stimulation to the diaphragm and intercostals. Therefore, heart rate will be monitored under both experimental conditions and compared to the resting rate and apneic resting rate. As a profound autonomic phenomenon, further establishment of the diving reflex in humans will shed light on the preservation of the reflex and its role in the survival during near drowning experiences. Only by examining the physiological response in humans can we appreciate the evolutionary significance of this innate neural circuitry. Methods: An untrained 22 year old male human subject was chosen. A PT 104 pulse plethysmograph was wrapped around his dominant (right) index finger. Connected through a IXTA data acquisition unit, heart rate was monitored on LabScribe. The recordings were measured with ten seconds of leeway at the beginning and end to allow baseline pulse recovery. Digital marks labeled the time interval of the described action. First the subject s heart rate was measured during a resting phase for twenty seconds. He was encouraged to relax and remain inactive in order to confirm an accurate baseline reading. For the apneic condition, the subject repeated this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Bad Hooks Catch No Fish Bad Hooks Catch No Fish A good hook is what, best, brings a reader into any form of writing. If not, then all could be lost, unless it is mentally forced upon. This is especially true for a novice, or introductory, reader getting into the finer aspects of literature or composition. Such as, Paul Rankin s (2005) essay, on Hemingway s Hills like White Elephants, lacks a motivated lead. The opening transition word could throw a reader in the opposite direction Rankin would have hoped for. The beginning paragraphs poor lead could cause one to become lost before the revelation of thesis which makes a poor asset to novice readers. With the opening word Although (Rankin, p. 234) would make sense if a complete thought was presented prior. It leaves one to ask, what this complete though could be. With this lingering thought of what was the original, paves the way for a very complex sentence, which is still a continuation of the leading thought. Now for someone venturing into the literary scene, to read a sentence of this magnitude, could become hesitant to continue. Although, the composition of the first sentence is artful, it could still be a hard read. Which, from a scholar s perspective is refreshing and at par. But the little guy becoming a scholar has not earned his letterman mark yet. It is wise to be careful into reading a sentence with complex composition of over 100 words. Additionally, the first sentence, a summation of multiple views could introduce a novice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Leading Fuel Ethanol From The United States POET LLC is one of the leading fuel ethanol producers in the United States, operating twenty seven corn to ethanol plants and one of only three corn stover to ethanol plants in the United States. The success of the company has come from capitalizing on government policy. This policy under the EPA s renewable fuel standard provides incentives in the market place. Due to this incentive along with process innovation POET has grown into an industry leader. The company has a wide range of intellectual property and is constantly pushing its employees to come up with new ideas and processes. As an Associate Research Scientist, I am able to collaborate on new ideas first hand. I see many new ideas come through the pipeline every day. Once an idea is developed it is subjected to scrutiny, it must survive benchtop experiments, economic modeling, and ultimately a run through at a research plant. Ultimately then trials are done at one of the twenty six plants that POET manages. This whole process can be stopped at any time if an experiment fails, the economics do not make sense, or if managers decide other ideas get priority of resources. • 10. The Limit Point Of Capitalist Equality In the pursuit of equality many different attempts have been made to obtain this quality including protests and laws or legal acts. However, no matter how many legal regulations are instituted, or protests are held, true equality has never been accessed, and will never be accessed until there are significant changes made to the ideology and mindset of the citizens of this country. Both Chris Chen and Christine Delphy who advocate for race and gender equality respectively, are two authors who believe that these radical changes must be made to create equality in society. They each give similar yet different ways to alter the mindset of modern society. In her essay Rethinking Sex and Gender, Delphy states that in order to truly gain equality among the sexes, we have to eliminate the idea of gender altogether. On the other hand, in his essay The Limit Point of Capitalist Equality, Chen argues that to eliminate racial inequality we need to change our mindset and stop defining race as physical or cultural qualities that distinguish us, or thinking of it as a noun, and start thinking of race as the institutional roadblocks put in front of people of color, or as a verb. Both of these alterations can seem very drastic at face value, and would in fact be undesirable to many. However, once some of the ideas of Chen and Delphy are superimposed upon one another, they illuminate how each one can be applied to, and work in society. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conflict could resolve in losing employees due to how they are being treated within their work environment. Management would be without employees and there would be loss of productivity. Some of the strengths would be that the workers were experienced and know how to do their job/tasks correctly. This is a strength because you have trustworthy professionals who know what they are doing with that certain task. A weakness would be how the employees were silenced and overworked (Kirst Ashman, 2014). This is a weakness because I know how being silenced can be. At my old job, we didn t have much of a say and work became irritating to the point that I left. Not being heard on ideas does have consequences. And in the scientific management theory there is no communication with management. Cultural Theory This cultural perspective is a theory that is being used all the time and will not change. Cultures are seen as structured by two forms of constrain on individual behavior (Thompson, Ellis, and Wildavsky, 1991). The cultural perspective on organizations believes that each of the organizations establish a distinctive mixture of values, standards, presumptions, and practices about how things should be done that eventually becomes a habit (Kirst Ashman, 2014). • 12. The Importance Of Kinship In Cultural Anthropology Kingsborough Community College Importance of Kinship in cultural anthropology Student: Amulang Mantsynov Professor: Igor Pashkovskiy Kinship has traditionally been one of the key topics in social and cultural anthropology. There are two primary reasons for this. First, although not all communities are constituted on the basis of kinship, all humans have a kinship as individuals and are related to other individuals through it. Second, for the sorts of tribal, classless, economically unspecialized societies that anthropologists have mostly though no longer exclusively studied, kinship has appeared to be the main or even sole form of social organization. These observations led various theoretical approaches, especially the schools of functionalism and structuralism within social anthropology, to focusing on how social groups are formed. They got interested in studying of how individuals are related to one another through kinship, and what kinds of mutual rights and duties they have as a result. (R. Parkin. Kinship) Parkin (2012) also points out that unlike the functionalists and structuralists, cultural anthropologists, elected to focus more greatly on the symbolic rather than socio practical aspects of kinship. They are interested in the meanings attached to being a particular sort of relative. They also study how symbols of and perspectives on an individual, the body, and gender tell kinship ideas and practices. In broad terms, a study of kingship from the symbolic standpoint has prevailed in America since the beginning of the twentieth century and periodically has been reinvented and by the 1970s become more influential in world anthropology, especially in its poststructuralist phase. The field of study of a kinship can be divided into three major categories: descent (that is, relations between generations); affinity (marriage); and siblingship. However, the siblingship hasn t been studied as widely as the first two categories. (R. Parkin. Kinship). By the definition provided in the New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, kinship is a relation between two or more persons that is based on common ancestry (descent) or marriage (affinity). At the beginning of the episode when people are warned that there will be a hurricane, everyone turns on each other by stealing, fighting and breaking things, for their own personal wealth, not worrying about anyone else, the creators of the show purposefully exaggerate, this is in reference to what would happen in anarchy, or post apocalyptic events, movies such as, The Purge, Mad Max 2 and I am Legend cover this topic in more depth. Later in the episode, Ned Flanders asks, why did the hurricane destroy only my house, I donate to 8 different churches and follow everything the bible says. This is making fun of how much he heavily relies on the several churches to bring him security and wealth, this pokes fun at the people in society think that giving to a church or several different churches will grant them safety or wealth. Another satirical moment was in Ned Flanders flashback to when he was young, when his parents couldn t control him, because they didn t believe in rules, they went to a doctor and told him, we ve tried nothing and we re all out of ideas. Like when she complained to the council about a curb being cracked, little things like this are quite amusing to see such an intelligent women making a fuss. Irene and Doris also have some things in common. They both have lost loved ones in their lives. This is an important story line in both monologues, as I will explain later on. The music in these monologues feels the emotions of what the characters are feeling. When there is a scene where Doris or Irene is happy, the music will go along with the expressions. I could tell when the topic came up on the loved lost ones it was a very dramatic time for Irene and Doris. The music drained out the room with a slow deep beat of a bellow. This makes the monologues more realistic with the different types and style of music, and with the pauses where no music is played at all. Men As An Object Of Society Analysis Men as an Object of Society A lethal duel between Major von Crampas and Baron von Instetten had taken place in the seaside resort of Kessin in Eastern Pomerania, resulting in the death of the major (Fontane Chapter 29 ). The duel occurred as a result of the Major having a love affair with the Baron s wife six years ago, and was revealed through the previous love letters that had been discovered in the wife s sewing table. Wüllersdorf, a lawyer and friend to the Baron, was immediately summoned to deliver the challenge of the duel and to act as a second in the affair (Fontane Chapter 27 ). The Baron was quick to notify Wüllersdorf with a note regarding the affair, which he should have controlled his emotions (Fontane Chapter 27 ). Even when Wüllersdorf had vowed to keep silent of the affair, Innstetten not wanting to be the object of his sympathy, considered it too late to undo the dueling request (Fontane Chapter 27 ). It was interesting how we can train and produce a behavior that is more probable to recur with positive and negative reinforcements. When we are presented with a positive reinforcer, we strengthen the probability that a response will recur (pg 114). For example, when we are training a dog to do tricks, we reward the dog with a treat every time the trick is performed correctly. With negative reinforcers we use unpleasant stimuli that strengthens a behavior by their removal (pg 115). When teach a dog to heel, we may use a harness around the dogs body. When the dog is pulling away, the harness creates an uncomfortable pressure. When the dog is walking in the right spot that pressure is then remove. With negative reinforcement we hope that the dog will get to a point that it avoids the pressure and and heels by our side. This type of training is referred as escape ... Incomplete tumor removal is a risk associated with surgical removal of cancerous tissue.3 Additionally, studies have shown that radiation promotes cancerous cell growth. Radiation promotes a cellular process known as autophagy, which supports metabolic functions while a cell is living with some sort of environmental stress. Typically, the cell will degrade longstanding organelles and proteins to recycle the molecular units of macromolecules. This becomes an alternate source of nutrients during cell survival. Within a premalignant cell, autophagy will prevent a cell from replicating if it is cancerous. Once the cell has become malignant, it is living under environmentally stress induced by hypoxia and nutrient depletion. Malignant cells are dependent of autophagy for survival, and radiation promotes autophagy; this, radiation promotes cancer.4 Current cancer treatments have high risks of harsh side effects and a high probability of reoccurring cancer. The third form of happiness is defined satisfaction with life as a whole being able to look back on one s life and be satisfied with what one has done/experienced (Nozick, p. 110). He argues it is easy to understand why people long for this type of happiness, as it is pleasurable to experience in itself. Other evidence against hands free cell phone use while driving is simply that talking on hands free devices is just as bad as talking on handheld devices in relation to driver performance (Ishigami Klein, 2009). To determine this, Ishigami and Klein (2009) reviewed the results of several separate studies that investigated the impacts of handheld and hands free cell phone usage on the detection reaction times of drivers. • 41. Country Music Essay The debate whether commercialism has stripped country music of its authenticity is one that requires further examination into who ultimately holds the power. The sometimes drastic changes made in music leaves people questioning the tastes of consumers when in fact they are the bystanders of an overpowering industry. Fans are people who buy the albums, go to concerts, and request songs on the radio, not the execs that market the music, and yet their opinions/tastes aren t taken into consideration. Fans carry a lot of clout in regards to what they define as commercialism gone wrong and acceptable country music. Despite what may seem fair, those who are financially invested in its success drive the commercialization of music. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The feelings of comfort and unity transcend the essence of what country music represents. However, the power struggle between music executives and artists compromising these markers has been an ongoing battle. The commercialization of country music tries to implement these markers while brining to light a new sound for country music, The Nashville Sound. This new sound of country music introduces background singers, pianos, polished voices and much more sophisticated types of enhancements. Hank Williams, and Patsy Cline were two artists that thrived within the era of the Nashville Sound despite the influences of commercialism. The concept of a big country showcase striped music of its roots and deprived fans of what they really yearned for, simplicity and genuineness. The simplicity of earlier country music is undermined by the technological interference of its instrumentation. Simplicity meant one voice with a banjo, guitar, or harmonica accompaniment. The early country music industry presented the world with an artist just the way he or she was, no glitz, glamour or frills. Within the new era of the Nashville Sound it brings along with it overbearing producers and record labels with their own hidden agendas. He has cooked up a sound all his own: hot, fierce, overbearing, full of energy and desire, a sound to jump right out of the jukebox. But Phillips wants money, a lot of it, and he wants to set the world on its ear (Elvis: Presliad, 142). What ever happened ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Ray Bradbury Sameness All Summer in a Day written by Ray Bradbury is a science fiction short story. Margot is from Earth, living on Venus. Margot and her classmates are excited to see the sun. All of Margot s classmates but they lock her in a closet and go enjoy the sun while she islocked in the closet. All Summer in a Day teaches readers that sameness is bad because there is no change and no experimenting with the world. One way that sameness has a negative impact on the people is the weather. For example, It had been raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with rain (Bradbury). On Venus they are not accustomed to change they only experience rain. They have not seen the sun for seven years. They only experience rain everyday the same thing one after another. This is a good example of sameness because they only experience rain. It is important to notice that all day everyday it is constantly raining. The purpose of these words is to ... This is bad because we are all different and our differences need to be recognized. I chose this quote because it empathises how much the children recognize Margot s difference and think it is a bad thing. Finally, a fourth example of sameness and separation is, They surged about her, caught her up and bore her, protesting, and then pleading, and then crying, back into a tunnel, a room, a closet, where they slammed and locker the door (Bradbury). When Margot s classmates lock her in a closet it is located in the middle of the story and at the climax. It is important to notice that Margot will not see the sun because she is locked in a closet. It is the make or break part in the story because all Margot wants is to see the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I ve always heard that it s illegal to ride in the back of a pickup truck in some states such as Georgia and Colorado because of seatbelt laws and light restrictions. On the other hand, other few states have no laws about riding in the back of a pickup truck because of agricultural activities, special events, emergency situations and etc. Also, some of the states contain rural areas where pickup trucks are needed for work uses and farming operations. Later he would say, As a coping mechanism, the young Hart found humor to battle back the pain of his childhood (Bio.com). This incident lead him to start his comedy line. This also has an affect on other aspiring comedians when Kevin made it big. It had an effect on aspiring comedians because it give inspiration on where to get jokes from. Another way Kevin has influence on aspiring comedians is his family. This particular family member is his father Henry. Henry has a reputation of being a very bad dad considering his criminal record, the experiences told by Kevin, and his time outside of the family house. An example of this was when Henry, was in and out of jail and rarely around (Bio.com). There was really a place where Kevin got many of his jokes from and that was his father. But the two, even though they disagreed on a lot, they eventually made up and they were close until 2007 when Henry died of ovarian cancer. The last way is his whole comedy script and where that comes from. Kevin s humor comes from a special place that is sacred to him and that is his shady childhood. He gets his humor from the messed up things in his life, so he does not have to come up with everything on the spot like most comedians do. An example of this is, The jokes, He has said of his stand up, come from a real experience (Bio.com). Most of Kevin s jokes are how it is. • 47. Feminism in Sor Juana Essay Feminism in Sor Juana In Estela Portillo Trambley s play Sor Juana the main character Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz was considered to be one of the earliest feminists. Sor Juana s eternal struggles to study and unshakable craving for knowledge and wisdom, from whatever source it may be, support this attribute. In my opinion however, there are also significant elements of the play that suggest that Sor Juana would not be considered a true feminist. Of these reasons, there are three major ones that I will analyze. The first reason is that Sor Juana gave up her struggle for the acquirement of knowledge from books and settled for reading from religiously accepted writing, essentially giving up what she had been originally fighting for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This whole progression of events is evidence that Sor Juana was never a true feminist. Although she was an assertive and determined young woman earlier in life, Sor Juana learned to accept the way the world was, abandoned what feminist ideals she had had, and devoted her later life to pleasing God and being a good nun. Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, as portrayed in Trambley s play is only concerned with her own desires. She never shows interest in other women s rights and she never speaks to other women about the idea of equal rights. She does not encourage her fellow females to fight to attend colleges and learn. It is like to Sor Juana, there is no such thing as another woman who desires the same things as she. To me this limits the extent to which Sor Juana could be called a feminist. She never, in any way, attempted to fight for the rights of anyone beside herself, and for no thing besides the freedom to study and become learned. It is much more applicable to refer to Sor Juana as one of the first in a sort of evolutionary linearity of what finally became feminism. At the low end of the evolutionary spectrum are characters like Sor Juana. She was forthright and assertive about what she desired, but she lacked the ability or means to organize or extend her struggle to any topic area that did not directly interest her. Greene s men began to panic and then began to scatter in every direction. The troops heavily fought on both sides, but in the end, Nathanael Greene and his troops decided to retreat. The British may have won the battle, but they ended up suffering tremendous losses.
