3D cultures of iPSC derived neural cells: An alternative form of a brain on a chip is achieved through
combinations of brain cells combined to produce a simplistic 3D model comprising neurons, glia, and
if possible, a blood brain barrier (BBB, discussed in more detail later) [12, 14, 15, 31]. Such models
can obviously be formed using animal cells as well as human, but as mentioned above, the
development of human iPSC derived neurons and glia from patients and controls is driving the use of
these highly valuable cell types in 3D modeling. The development of more complex 3D models that
combine several cell types has been boosted by major advances in microfluidic engineering,
producing platforms that allow the integration of small numbers ... Show more content on

The 3D environment and the extracellular matrix: One of the key reasons for why a 3D environment
promotes neural cell growth and function more closely resembling that seen in vivo is due to a much
richer extracellular matrix (ECM). The brain ECM is a hydrogel of hyaluronic acid with lamins,
fibronectin, collagens, vitronectin, tenacins, and proteoglycans [15]. These structures provide key cell
binding domains, and bioactive motifs that coordinate cell cell interactions, and signaling from growth
factors [12, 15]. Altered signaling patterns leads to changes in gene and thus protein expression and
subsequently cell behaviour. The ECM is also critical for interaction between glial cells and neurons
and this process is dependent not only on astrocyte neuron interaction but also microglia neuron
interaction and microglia astrocyte neuron interactions [15, 35, 39]. In vivo, this occurs in a 3D
manner with cells interacting with many other cells, but this is impaired in 2D cultures. A 3D matrix
also controls movement of oxygen, nutrient transfer and removal of wastes in a manner that occurs
similar to the brain rather than the batch media of 2D cultures that bath cells in high concentrations of
compounds and allow rapid diffusion of waste [34, 40]. Formation of the microenvironmental
conditions optimal for neural cell function depends on a 3D matrix and its interacting proteins and

Jurassic Park Research Papers
Jurassic Park is a movie based on the novel Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. The movie of course,
like all films based off of books, is slightly different from the original novel. Yet, this title shares a
similar theme with its original piece of work. The recreation of dinosaurs. Sadly the Jurassic Park
version of dinosaur recreation will only make it harder to bring these extinct animals back to life. Our
real life scientists may be able to somewhat recreate dinosaurs through Artificial Embryo Twinning or
Somatic Cell Nuclear transfer. We have successfully cloned 20+ animals or recreated extinct animals
such as the Bucardo or Pyrenean Ibex.
The InGen scientist in Jurassic park use a form of Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. The scientists ...

Through this technique the scientist would have to grind up the Dinosaurs bones to extract blood cells
and proteins (Cloning and Dr. Loy). The only negative point in this form of recreation or cloning is
that it is ...used only as a backup to the cloning that produces a full strand of DNA... . Another way
would be like the InGen scientist using Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. The only precaution would be
to ensure that the blood or cells being extracted are actually from dinosaurs which at this point is
extremely difficult. Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer is when and ovum is created with a donor nucleus.
First, the nucleus (containing the DNA) is removed and the rest of the cell is thrown out while the
nucleus of an egg cell is also removed. Next, the nucleus of the somatic cell is inserted into the egg
cells nucleus place. After the insertion, the host cell reprograms the somatic cell nucleus. The egg will
begin to divide. Lastly, after many mitotic divisions the single cell can form a blastocyst with closely
identical DNA to the original organism (SCNT).
Our efforts on recreating animals have been successful to an extent. Dolly the Sheep is a perfect
example of recreation (Roslin Institute, Scotland). Also animals such as the Bucardo (Bringing them
back to life) , Carp, Cumulina the mouse etc. (20 animals...). The Bucardo was successfully cloned

Under The Feet Of Jesus By Helena Maria Viramontes
The Power of Ethnicity How do we define power in our society? Do you we look at those with money
or those who acquire many things? According to Michael Parenti the structure of whether or not
someone is defined in the sense of powerful or powerlessness relies on their social class and ethnicity.
In the novella Under the Feet of Jesus by Helena Maria Viramontes, we see the development of power
through the main character Estrella. It is clear that although Estrella s background as a powerless
migrant worker struggling to support her family financially she shifts into a powerful role as an
empowered young latina woman. The novella tells the story of a young migrant worker who is faced
the the responsibility to help care for her family not only financially but in a manner of leadership as
well. Throughout the story the character of Estrella changes drastically from a timid outcast to an
outspoken leader. In the beginning Estrella is portrayed as a quiet young woman who is defined as an
outsider. When looking at the character of Estrella she is characterized in the category as powerless.
One reason that we can attribute Estrella s state of power is her socio economic circumstances.
Coming from a family of five, Estrella assumes the role as the oldest daughter as well as second
mother due to her father s recent abandonment on the family. It is because of this abandonment that
Estrella resents her mother s older boyfriend Perfecto, who in return has gotten her mother pregnant.

Bilbo Coming Of Age Essay
The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien is a perfect example of a coming of age story. Bilbo, the main
protagonist, started his journey as a sheltered hobbit. It was clear that he had potential to do something
great, but his own insecurities and his fear to stand out crippled his progression in life. He didn t leave
his house often, and he hardly took any risks. He failed to grow as an individual. Bilbo throughout the
book he experienced personal growth through his encounter with the goblins he, he became confident
through the events that happened at Mirkwood, and when he returned home at the end of the journey,
he was filled with self love and pride. At the beginning of the book, Bilbo told Gandalf that he did not
want anything to do with the journey. He feared for his safety, and he had nightmares the night before
the journey started. However, throughout his journey, he bonded and learned a lot from the dwarves.

Bilbo gets captured by the giant spider, his will and perseverance is tested. Not only does he escape
from the spider s trap, but he also defeats the spider and saves the party. He gains even more
experience, and becomes a leader in the group. Before he returned home, he was assumed dead and
his items were auctioned off to the members of his community. When he finally arrived, he was
treated as an outcast because adventures are looked frowned upon in the hobbit community. Without
the friends and companions Bilbo made on the journey, Bilbo would have been completely alone.
However, he didn t really care of how his peers perceived him. Bilbo was not only proud of himself,

Ophelia in William Shakespeare s Hamlet Essay
Ophelia in William Shakespeare s Hamlet
Follow her close, give her good watch, I pray you (IV.5.73).
Ostensibly, Shakespeare s Hamlet is the riddling, enigmatic, inscrutable theatrical character par
excellence. His motives, madness, conflicting morals and existential struggles are ambiguous to say
the least. When analysing his character, Laertes and Fortinbras are often brought in as examples of
less extreme characters dealing with similar but more tangible dilemmas. The idea that there may be
someone who exceeds Hamlet in instability and incomprehensibility is unfathomable. But if one looks
at the character of Ophelia, this notion not only becomes a viable possibility: it becomes unignorable.
For while Hamlet is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is weighed down with others expectations, and the fact that we do not hear her contemplate the
meaning of it all is not due to her mindlessness, but rather to her never having obtained the privilige of
either voicing her thoughts or of questioning her situation. Her mechanical responses to Polonius I
shall obey, my lord (I.3136), as you did command (II.1.105) and to Hamlet No, my lord Ay, my lord I
think nothing, my lord What is, my lord? Ay, my lord What means this, my lord? Tis brief, my lord
(III.2.106 141) are automatic. Resignation has become second nature.
With the lines Tis in my memory lock d,/And you yourself shall keep the key of it (I.3.85), Ophelia
surrenders all responsibility to Laertes: the image of his access to her memory is a powerful one. This,
in turn, juxtaposed against Polonius demand to possess full access to their relationship, creates a
disturbing picture of a young woman s complete lack of privacy. The very language Polonius uses,
Give me up the truth (I.3.98) implies surrender. The fact that the word truth, is used to describe what
she is meant to give up, loads the demand to breaking point.
But Ophelia is not only fenced in and loaded down. She also lacks the capacity to act, so that even if
she were released from her confines, she would be at a loss with what to do with her freedom. And
this state of precariousness is evident in her frightend reply to Polonius My lord, I do not

The Importance Of Human Nature In Cory Doctorow s Little...
Cory Doctorow s Little Brother is an excellent novel that combines technology and rebellion all into
one book. A group of teenagers living in San Francisco become prisoners of a terrorist attack
investigation when they are arrested and brought to an island by the Department of Homeland
Security. They are treated awfully despite not having committed a single crime. The main character,
Marcus, deems it is in his hands to take down the DHS and get revenge for what they ve done. The
Bay Bridge bombing and terrorist attack, the awful treatment of the characters by the DHS, and
Marcus good efforts to seek revenge, all have an impact on human nature. Doctorow s novel shows
how acts of conflict can expose the cruelty of human nature as they can inflict tremendous pain on the
vulnerable, but sometimes they can even cause a positive outcome. Organizing a terrorist attack
reveals one s true human nature simply by having created such a vicious and cruel conflict. Within the
beginning of the novel, the Bay Bridge in San Francisco was bombed and thousands of people got
injured and many died. Having said that, one can infer just by recognizing the situation at hand, that
the person who orchestrated the attack, was not in a positive mental state. Marcus, a character in the
novel said, Terrorists don t hate landmarks or bridges or airplanes. They just want to screw stuff up
and make people scared (Doctorow 73). Marcus emphasizes in this line that terrorists reveal their
human nature

Social Darwinist Society During The Nineteenth Century
America established itself as a world power by the beginning of the twentieth century. The nation s
industrial sector remained the largest in the world, gasoline cars were introduced, telephones were
used, and cities were growing. Wealth could be attained, and was seen as a tangible goal. With the
many different theories and revolutions endured throughout the nineteenth century, it was certainly an
exciting time to be alive; but only if you were of Aryan race in the upper middle class. Social
Darwinism is a term and social theory formed in the late nineteenth century to describe the idea that
humans compete in a struggle for existence. This competition is also linked to Charles Darwin s
theory of natural selection, resulting in survival of the fittest. The misapplied social term of social
Darwinism is typically used in regards to the belief that wealthy Anglo Saxon s are biologically
racially superior. Many people correlate the social Darwinist theory to the heightened rationalization
of imperialism, racism, and capitalism, and the term typically has a negative connotation due to the
vague understanding of it being attributed to a rejection of social responsibility and compassion.
Active Social Darwinist s believe that government should not aid or interfere with societal human
competition by attempting to regulate the economy or contributing to government funded programs.
The laissez faire political idea is a direct reflection of a hands off capitalist society.

Domestic Abuse
Abuse occurs when people mistreat or misuse other people, showing no concern for their integrity or
intent worth as individuals. There are different types of abuse, examples are, family abuse, neglect,
and emotional abuse. On average, most children that grow up in an abusive home are most likely to
become abusive towards their spouse and or kids. Family abuse can be the worse because it affects the
whole family. Emotional abuse affects the inside and that can be mentally damaging. Most of the time,
neglect abuse is not always intentional. It s caused by inexperienced parents not knowing how to raise
the child. This paper, will focus on the affects domestic abuse has on children. When children are
exposed to family violence, it effect the children mentally and physically. It makes kids fearful of
other adults or elders. The child could start to lie about the abuse and start to feel that it s their fault.
Which makes them afraid to even talk to their own family about the abuse. It can lead the child to
abuse drugs when they get older. Children can even grow up to resent their parents for abusing them
or to even let it happen. The child can grow up to feel that it s ok to hit their loved ones or be ... Show

Essay about Richard Nixon
Richard Nixon s presidency is one of the most examined, analyzed and discussed, yet least
understood, of all the
American administrations in history. While many factors still remain to be discovered, and many
mysteries are left to be resolved, we need to do the best that we can to make sense of this secretive
president of our past and his era. He is the one American figure about whom very few people don t
have strong feelings for. Nixon is loved and hated, honored and mocked .
The term Watergate , labeled by Congress in 1974, stands for not only the burglary, but also for the
numerous instances of officially sanctioned criminal activity and abuses of power as well as the
obstruction of justice that preceded the actual

It was an inspiring speech that would remove the fear that he believed restrained the
Americans and the Soviets from better relationships in the past. Meanwhile, in Washington, the
President s election staff was overcome with a different fear. Despite Nixon s high standing position
for being reelected, his CREEP staff
(Committee to Reelect the President) was afraid that they might not have as much dirt on Nixon s
opponents as they had on Nixon. The President laid upon his staff the determination to do whatever
possible to win the election
.
With this approval, Nixon s staff, headed by G. Gordon Liddy, began planning more ways of attaining
information from the
DNC. What they named the Plumbers unit was established as a special task force for the President.
The Plumbers purpose was to keep any secret information from being discovered by reporters. In one
situation, wearing CIA provided disguises, they illegally broke into Dr. Field s office, a psychiatrist,
for information on a patient, Daniel Ellsberg, who had given private Pentagon papers to the New York
Times 25). It turned out that the doctor had already been visited by the FBI and, taking precaution,
removed the files. The White House also came up with an adversary list. Every
President from Washington to Johnson has had his list of disapprovals, but Nixon s was much more

Web 2.0 has forever changed online communication and communication in general. Reddit has opened
up new ways to communicate and be a part of communities. These communities are now so integral to
our modern culture that they are used for more than just people discussing interests online. Reddit has
given has given content creators, business men, and politicians among others to manage and monitor
community activity. Filmmakers/television executives use these communities to monitor the fan base
of their respective media. They monitor these communities to look at fan feedback, to see what fans
like or dislike about the media they are associated with. This is common in television shows as
television executives need to know what fans are thinking about the show overall or the season
currently airing so they know what to improve on or what the fans want. An example of this is a
television executive for the television show Arrow . The executive Marc Guggenheim has an active
Tumblr and Reddit account and responds to comments on sub reddits and hosts AMA s (ask me
anything) to actively engage with the Arrow community. This helps keep entertainment media alive
and for shows in particular it helps keep fanbases active with weekly releases of shows. Shows such as
Supernatural and Game of Thrones have large active communities on Reddit with Game of Thrones
roughly having 465,699 active subscribers as of last year (Wikidot, 2015). Part of Game of Thrones;

many vampire movies over the years, long before they became the popular pop culture genre they
have become due to the success of The Twilight Saga films. One movie I have enjoyed viewing many
times since its debut in 1994 is Interview with the Vampire. This film is an adaptation of the book
Interview with the Vampire written by Anne Rice in 1973 and published in 1976. The movie was

His cinematography creates an exceptionally inviting, varied look for this nocturnal story, and special
visual effects are smoothly integrated into the action. The makeup that adds pale eyes, ghostly pallor
and tiny blue veins to the principals faces manages to create a frisson of danger without marring the
actors attractiveness (Maslin). Rousselot used dark lensing, a way to attain low key shots and thus
created a huge contrast to the sets and costumes (Maslin). This made the characters seem as though
they were the only important things in the otherwise dark and gloomy shots.
Mise en scene
The mise en scene of Interview with the Vampire is relatively theatrical in nature. Long shots are used
for much of the movie and the intense close up shots are retained for the extremely moving
victimization scenes where the camera closes in on the eyes of the vampire attacking its victim and
what the vampire is feeling thru its eyes (Rice). Also because of the darkness of most of the settings
within the movie and the lushness of the immediate sets and costuming one gets the feeling of the
importance of the characters and where they are at. The character proxemics and intimate distance of
the shot when Claudia curls up with Louis in his coffin, shows the feelings and morality that Louis is
fighting so hard to hang onto in his immortality and the loss of the innocence Claudia has accepted.
Movement The movements in this film are

Negotiations With The Dispute Between The Disputants
Problem Solving First of all, in order to solve any problem there need to be negotiation techniques
established to deal with the dispute between both of the disputants. First, a proper negotiation
technique must include the creation of a mutual frame. This frame consist of setting a good tone
during the negotiators opening statement. This tone can have two different effects, either there is
cooperation or competition (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p 159). There is nothing worse than having set
everything up and because of the tone that the mediator has everything fall apart. Second, there needs
to be an establishment of criteria in order to have both the disputants establish cooperation. When
criteria is established, neither of the disputants can establish their own competiveness, however, when
a disputant does establish competitiveness, it is the job of the mitigation to move out of
competitiveness and move the discussion to determine the facts (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p159). Some
ways to assist the mediator from successfully steering away from competiveness is by asking
questions that remind both disputants that the reason they are there is to solve the problem and not
cause more tension. Additionally, while some negotiators might employ brainstorming into the
techniques, this is considered optional. However, I do feel that having both disputants brainstorm can
assist then with considering both side of the issue when ideas are expressed freely. According to

Of An Former Colored Man By James Weldon Johnson Essay
In James Weldon Johnson s Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man, the is written narrator to be
perceived at face first as an average white male, when in fact he is inherently of colored descent.
Consequently, in regards to society s principle of the one drop rule, the narrator then faces an identity
complex in understanding whether he is black since society has categorized him on the account of his
bloodline, or white because of his external appearance. For at the end of the novel, he makes the
conscious decision to pass as white. Yet in erasing traces of his his Negro descent, this question
whether the narrator s decision violates particular morals in passing as white. Or, whether the narrator
s decision demonstrates that individuals like himself, must recreate themselves out of necessity. In
order to be liberated from societies categorization, and obtain their concept of happiness, that is
beyond the restricted principles from society. For the notion of recreating oneself for the means of
progressing towards a future goal is understood in F.Scotts Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby . For lowly
Jimmy Gatz is given an opportunity to recreate himself as Jay Gatsby, and does so through concealing
his past identity from society. Yet in effect, this enables Gatsby to become limitless in how he
progresses towards his idealized future. That in which, this paper will combine significant similarities

Yet not one sparrow is forgotten by God. Euthanasia is the intentional ending of a life with the purpose
of relieving suffering. Euthanasia can be voluntary (at the request of the individual) or involuntary,
(without the consent of the individual). To Christians all life is sacred and a gift from God (genesis
1:27). Also they believe that God alone has the right to take life: I was born with nothing and I will die
with nothing. The Lord gave and now he has taken away Job 1:21. In the New Testament the writers

endurance brings God s approval, and his approval creates hope. Romans 5:3 4 The Presbyterian

Essay on Biography of Saint Francis of Assissi
Biography of Saint Francis of Assissi
1. Birth
Saint Francis was born Giovanni Bernadone in either 1181 or 1182 in the
Italian hill town of Assisi. His parents, Pietro and Pica, were members of the rather well to do
merchant class of the town. Pioetro Bernadone was away in
France when his son was born. On his return, he had the boy s name changed from
Giovanni to Franceso ( The Little Frenchman perhaps a tribute to France, a country he loved and from
which his wife s family came). Saint Francis of Assisi, was born in 1182, more probably in the latter
year. His mother s family, which was not without distinction, may originally have hailed from
Provence. His father, Pietro di Bernardone, was a prosperous cloth merchant and ... Show more

He could admire his father, honest and worthy, but an austere man, taking up where he laid not down,
reaping where he had not shown. Drama also rendered his secret dream, the realization of the
chivalrous life. The exploits of Charlemagne s paladins and the Knights of the
Round Table were already familiar throughout Italy, and code of knightly behavior was known and
honored, if little practiced. Francis s imagination disported itself in the enchanted world of
knighthood; and all his life he used the language of chivalry and appealed to its ideals.
After Francis had attained manhood and developed his native discernment, he devoted himself to the
profession of his father, who was a merchant. Yet this he did in his own way. Merry and generous by
nature, ever ready for jest and song, he roamed the town of Assisi day and night with his comrades and
was most prodigal in his spending to such and extent that he used all the money allowed him and all
his earnings for banquets and festivities. For this reason his parents frequently remonstrated with him,
pointing out that he was living in such style with his friends that he no longer seemed to be their son,
but the son a great prince. Yet as his parents were wealthy and loved their son tenderly, they allowed
him to have his own way rather that disturb him.

Aquinas Five Ways Essay
In Five Ways, written by Thomas Aquinas, the philosopher is argues that there is a god .He gives five
well rounded arguments to support his claim, as well as introducing rebuttals to possible objections of
his theory. He begins with his first argument that concludes the existence of god which focuses on the
force of motion. Aquinas goes on to explain that if something in motion was caused by something else
then that something else must have come from something which he identifies as nothing else . This
claim, that change must come from something and this line of change can not be infinite supports his
claim of a higher being or god for there must always be a reason for change. The second argument
being causation shows that because everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
god. The fifth and final argument argues that because we give things with no purpose or lack of
knowledge a purpose, there is a god for there must have been a thing which directed a being with the
intelligence to utilize a thing with none and this direction being given by god. Aquinas then ends his
claim with a rebuttal to his previous objections he list in the beginning of the article. Here he uses a
more direct approach of supporting his claim. The argument of why is there evil if there is a god? , is
shot down by the philosopher in a romantic way. Aquinas goes on to rebuttal that god in fact does not
allow evil and all evil will eventually produce good simply because god does not allow evil. He
finishes the article with a last rebuttal of the causation of nature. He claims that because the causation
for this is unreachable it must be traced back to god. Aquinas structures his arguments using the
socratic method, giving broad claims that many would support forcing them to then except his
conclusions for his five arguments for if you were to disagree then you would then be contradicting

Rock Concept Album
Am pretty sure my admiration for progressive rock concept albums started back when I started
seriously getting into collecting record albums. As a kid in my single digits, I had 45 s (singles) and
whatever else one not quite a teenager yet would have, including the first Partridge Family album
(1970). To my credit, I was never interested in what pop songs The Brady Bunch was putting out, but I
ll admit I did have a boyhood crush on Marcia (Maureen McCormick). Along came my teen years.
From hanging out with my friends, and sometimes their older siblings, I became exposed to more of
what they were playing on the FM radio stations, then the AM ones. Rock n Roll was my thing. To
this day, which it primarily still is. My first real rock album; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

My only regret is that at least on one track, that it don t rock out just a tad harder. For I know Leon and

more mellow stuff. Hard to complain. Besides that, I can t say enough good words about the overall
concept story approach. A solid futuristic, apocalyptic tale that inspires intelligent thought. I strongly
recommend paying the extra money and getting the physical CD. It really compliments what you ll

that includes the story in written form, plus comic book illustrations. I would love to see this done like

The Protest Song By Charles Albert Tindley
The protest song selected for this report was We Shall Overcome (Various Artists, 1945) written by
various artists, with lyrics originating from an older activist s hymn. This report will cover the history,
purpose, lasting effects, and the value of We Shall Overcome and its predecessor I ll Overcome
Someday . We Shall Overcome the protest song has found itself tied to multiple social movements,
however, its origin has its roots planted in the civil rights movement. After researching about this song
I came across the fact that the lyrics and the style of the song originated from I ll Overcome Some Day
, a hymn created by Charles Albert Tindley, An East Coast Methodist Minister, in 1901. Charles
Tindley was the son of an African American slave father and free mother. It wasn t until the mid 1940s
(ten years after Charles had passed on, leaving behind a lifetime of community work and activism)
that we see the first rendition of the modern We Shall Overcome as a protest song by a tobacco and
food union group. A few short years later in 1947 this song s title was recognized as We Shall
Overcome in an edition of people s songs bulletin , a publication directed by Pete Seeger, who is very
well known for his rendition of this song and many others. This song is an anthem, a chant if you will.
Its purpose is not to drag attention to a specific event, such as 41 Shots (Springsteen, 2000) where
Bruce Springsteen emotionally portrays the events of a fatal

The Exploration Of Human Memory Essay
The exploration of human memory will unlock the past and future. Through the exploitation of human
memory man condemn itself to an apocalyptic world. The manipulation of the human memory is key
to man s control over the human mind. Memory can divide what humans see and what humans can
remember. Some memories may be deceitful, but it all depends on the state of mind and past
experiences of that individual. Memory isn t just a personal experience that s based only on that
person, an event can change people physically and mentally. Memory is based off of multiple factors
that occur in the brain. It s a deep subject that both neuropsychologist and psychologist have tried to
completely understand in the past decade. Author Carl Gunther said that Underneath the mind s
perceptual process is the mysterious mechanics of memory (Gunther 87). In hopes of a new future
where memory isn t so mysterious. Humans are digging deeper in the unknown such as neuroscientist
Bence Olveczky of the Harvard University in Cambridge Massachusetts. To explain how Olveczky
would discover a possible breakthrough in manipulating the human mind would take time. To grasp
the concept of manipulating memory one would have to know the history and meaning of memory.
Humans consider memory as the ability to remember things, true, but is also the ability to Encode,
store, retain and subsequently recall information and past experiences in the human brain (Mastin The
Human Memory ). Learning is

The Ordeal Of Elizabeth Marsh
A biography is defined as a written account of another person s life. The key word in the definition
being another person s life. Biographies are full of great information that can often times make history
fun and exciting. Historical phenomenon is often portrayed through biographies allowing us to see
how society has developed over time and how the past and present may be similar. Although
biographies are full of information often times it is impossible to prove them to be true because they
aren t written by the person themselves. Linda Colley s The ordeal of Elizabeth Marsh is a great
example of an exciting biography that allows us to learn about British Imperial Rule through someone
else s eyes. In Linda Colley s The ordeal of Elizabeth Marsh it becomes clear very quickly just how
much British Imperial Rule effected Elizabeth s life. British Imperial Rule was so strict that Elizabeth
was forced to marry a man that would offer her the most social advancement not only for herself but
for her father as well. She originally was supposed to marry Henry John Phillips because his family
was very high up on the social latter, however it didn t end up working out. Instead Elizabeth marries
pretends and later marries James Crisp, not necessarily because of love but again because of the social
standings that come with it. James Crisps social and financial background was much greater than
Elizabeth s lowering his overall wealthy and social standing. The seven year war also had

This is due to the fact that majority of the money that is spent at these establishments are based on the

Four Seasons Research Paper
The Four Seasons are known as Solar Festivals, in that they mark a seasonal change caused by the
Sun. The cross quarter days are marked by Fire Festivals and are usually celebrated as significant
agricultural festivals. Together the Solar Festivals and the Fire Festivals make up the Wheel of the
Year. The Wheel Of The Year, is often broken into eight festivals, whether they are the eight Asatru
Blots, Seasonal Festivals or Celtic Sabbats, and the observance of Solar energies at the solstices and
equinoxes and the Fire energies on the cross quarter days, is a common theme throughout the world.
The Festivals of the Wheel of the Year also represent the active and dormant states of nature, man and
agriculture. Each of the festival days was ruled by a governing deity, whether a God or Goddess, with
each region having its own associated deity. From planting to reaping to winter to summer... the
seasons were of great importance to our ancestors, for their very existence depended upon good
harvests, mild winters, and enough rainfall.
Our days start at sundown on the previous day. Therefore, November 1 is actually the night of October

In the case of accepting the terms of the transaction, Kraft intends to issue 265 million new shares, or
18% of the existing ones. Stockbroker Andrew Wood believes that Kraft has every reason to pursue
the acquisition of Cadbury, as this would allow the American company to expand its confectionery
business to more effectively compete with Mars. On the other hand, the head of an investment holding
company Berkshire Hathaway Warren Buffett, the largest shareholder of Kraft Foods, marked that he
felt poor because of this purchase (Chu 2010). He considers the sum of $19.3 billion too high, and the

employees of American companies. However, Cadbury workers do not expect anything well from this

redundancies of British employees. Trade unions believe that the downsizing will be quite serious:
Kraft s debt is estimated in £22 billion ( Cadbury agrees Kraft takeover bid 2010). British Prime

Unauthorized Immigration
Currently, the problem of unauthorized immigration divides Congress along political party lines.
Many politicians who are anti immigrant and pro immigrant seek for ways by which they can impact
their political base. As research shows, politicians and anti immigrant groups take advantage of the
mass media in order to persuade their constituency. The media uses quantitative data analysis of the
unauthorized population to create a media spectacle, by the portrayal of unauthorized immigrants as
criminals (Correa Cabrera 2012). This media spectacle serves to exploit the fears of many Americans
who oppose legalization. As a result, many people feel encouraged to contact their local
representatives to stand against the legalization of the unauthorized population.
Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965
First, it is important to present a historical context of unauthorized immigration to understand the
current dilemma. In order to change discriminatory immigration policies, the Immigration and
Nationality Act of 1965 was signed into law. After the 1965 act, immigration from Asia and Latin
America increased dramatically. However, for Latin America countries, the legislation restricted the
number of legal entries into the United States. Since the bill allowed for visas through family
reunification, the number of immigrants from Latin American countries increased, thus exhausting the
available visas. The result of these events created chain migration which caused unauthorized

Family Traditions and Practices
The regular practices and traditions in a family life have different forms and dynamics, because every
family structure and composition has different modes and standards of living. And it depends on the
changing aspects of a family that how they perform and practice certain traditions and practices.
(Wolin, Bennett, Jacobs, 1988) it can be classified in few groups and categories mention below.
(a) Under ritualized families: The groups of a people who are not interested to follow and celebrate
any ceremonies and traditions, in vacations or in free time. They do not involve and organize any
family events and festivals. Their domestic and household life is often seems to be blank, unfriendly
and cool. They live in society with other people but are least interested to participate in social and
cultural practices. These people are not considered very sociable, welcoming, and outgoing to make
any relations and contacts. Mostly these people live in a nuclear family style, individuals living
separate or often together but in a more democratic and independent way and they can decide and
spend their life according to their own will. (b) Families with Strict Practices: People that follow
traditions and customs very strictly in an inflexible way and do not tolerate or agree for any changes in
their routines, these people mostly have joint family system in developing societies and all the close
family members living together and share their economy in a collective way. Senior members

Introduction:
Indeed, the concerns surrounding legal fees are not unfounded. Those seeking legal advice tend to be
in a submissive position and yet it appears that legal professionals take advantage of this vulnerability
by charging excessive fees, for what may be unbeknownst to the layman a basic case. This has led
critics to question whether the legal profession has done everything in its power to address the subject
of legal costs particularly contingency fees and the issues which they raise, namely that of conflict of
interests and the promotion of access to justice.
Background:
This paper will focus on the relatively new development of contingency fee agreements, of which

money for the client than they would receive should they have gone through trial. Although this may

Thus, as the probability for a favourable outcome decreases, a lawyer may opt for a settlement despite
it not necessarily being in the best interests of the client. The chances of a lawyer agreeing to a

The Revolutionary Policies of Henry VIII Essay
The Revolutionary Policies of Henry VIII
Henry was a supreme egotist. He advanced personal desires under the guise of public policy or moral
right, forced his ministers to pay extreme penalties for his own mistakes, and summarily executed
many with little excuse. In his later years he became grossly fat, paranoid, and unpredictable.
Nonetheless he possessed considerable political insight, and he provided England with a visible and
active national leader.
Although Henry seemed to dominate his Parliaments, the importance of that institution increased
significantly during his reign. Other advances made during his reign were the institution of an
effective navy and the beginnings of social and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He began life as a second son, destined for the church. It was the dream of Henry VII for his eldest
son, Arthur, to be king and for his second son, Henry, to be the highest churchman in England. And so,
for the first ten years of his life, Henry was a student of theology. And for the next thirty years of his
life, he remained a dutiful son of the church. It is ironic, then that his most significant historical
achievement was the destruction of the Roman Catholic faith in England. The most prominent
casualty of Henry s break with Rome was Thomas Wolsey. Wolsey became Archbishop of York in
1514; in 1515 the Pope made him a Cardinal and Henry appointed him Chancellor, the highest
political office in England. The title of papal legate, granted in 1518, made him the effective head of
the English Church. The son of an Ipswich butcher, Wolsey was the richest and most powerful man in
England after the King. However, he could not impose Henry s will on the Pope. In retaliation, Henry
had him convicted of praemunire overriding civil law with church law and confiscated his assets. He
died in 1530 while facing an additional charge of treason.
His secretary, the Protestant reformer Thomas Cromwell, succeeded him. Cromwell reorganised the
government, the Church and the map of Wales, replacing the Principality and the Earldom of March
with Standard English counties. His

Urban Transport Problems And Environmental Problems
The term megacity refers to a densely populated, metropolitan area in which the total population
exceeds ten million people. Megacities tend to be thriving centers for cultural and economic progress
with a high rate of economic development. Of the 24 cities worldwide that are currently classed as
megacities, many of them are the capital city of a country, such as Paris, London, Tokyo, Beijing, and
Seoul, (Citypopulation.de, 2014). In recent years, with the rapid development of the economy, many
large cities around the world have been reclassified as megacities, particularly in developing countries.
As megacities develop, a lot of challenges and problems develop too, for example: high population,
urban transport problems and environmental problems. This essay will describe the main challenges
and possible solution. The first challenge is due to high population. A quick rise in population will
cause housing and food shortages and a rise in the price of general living. According to Yujun, Z.
(2011), in developing countries, the fastest population growth rate will be 7 8% annually; a burden in
most developing countries is that there is no population control, for example, in Beijing, China. By the
end of 2013, according to census data in China, the population of Beijing will be over 20 million.
Huge population problems for the city s infrastructure have brought tremendous pressure, housing and
food shortages. Grain yield is lower than the population growth rate so many people

Information Security And Security Policies
Information security policies are a key aspect of any information security department. These polices
are used to provide management and employees with instructions of the companies security directives,
eatables short and log term goals, assign responsibility, and define specific standards and processes for
ensuring information and system security. A properly written security policy can be instrumental in
ensuring security and can be used to create security centered employee behavior that is designed to

Security policies are intended to define what is expected from employees within an organization with
respect to information systems. The objective is to guide or control the use of systems to reduce the
risk to information assets. It also gives the staff who are dealing with information systems an
acceptable use policy, explaining what is allowed and what not. Security policies of all companies are

Challenger Space Shuttle Disaster Summary
A) Do you think that the most critical issues that contributed to the Challenger space shuttle disaster in
1986 were primarily data quality issues (i.e. data in poor condition that did not meet requirements) or
information quality issues (i.e. information products that did not meet expectations or deliver value)?
Explain your answer and support your reasons with quotations from the paper.
In my view, Challenger space shuttle disaster was primarily due to the data quality issues. There are
various reasons to support my statement from the article. The variables which are responsible for
quality of data has been violated in this case such as accuracy, consistency, completeness, fitness for
use, data relevance etc. In addition to this, there are some moderator variable violations also such as

This has happened because he was a novice or the one who has little bit of experience. We can say this
from the statement that he lacked confidence due to the inexperience and followed his higher grade
officers who has no knowledge regarding the O rings. This was one of the major violations of data
quality.
 The problems associated with NASA database is also one of the major violations. Here, the O rings
are misclassified and misreported and in some cases it is shown as redundant.
This lead to the serious accuracy and consistency violations.
 There was no completeness in this whole process. The critical components were not cross
referenced with the test plans hence it became tough for the management. This was one of the major
failures.

Evolution of Animals and Their Organ Systems
Organ Systems Project
(Digestive, Excretory, Circulatory, Reproductive, Nervous) There is an enormous variety of life on our
planet Earth ranging from simple cell bacteria to complex multicellular animals. Animals are creatures
in the kingdom Animilia, one of the kingdoms in Whitakers 5 kingdom system. Their bodies consist of
555tanimal eukaryotic cells. Meaning their cell or cells contain a nucleus, are surrounded by a cell
membrane (phospholipid bilayer) and can self reproduce in a free medium. However, not all animals
are anatomically the same. They have evolutionized, inside and out, from the ancestral protozoa all the
way to the most complex animals chordates. As the animals evolved, cells became tissue, tissues
became organs, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Micronuclei are very carefully copied and moved so that each daughter cell gets one, but once division
is complete usually new macronuclei will be produced from each cell s micronucleus, so careful
shepherding of the macronucleus is not necessary. Sexual reproduction in ciliates is called
conjugation. During conjugation, there is a transfer of genetic material via cell to cell contact by a
bridge like connection. The last system, which can be replaced by an organelle in the protozoa, is the
nervous system. The function of the nervous system is to regulate and correlate body activities
through conduction within and between individual cells or neurons, which eventually cause a response
in some other system. In the paramecium, the macro and micronuclei are responsible for the functions
of the nervous system. The nucleus is the control center of the cell and it contains the genetic info
needed to copy to make new cells. Just as the brain, nerves and spinal cord would work; the
micronucleus and macronucleus control the activities of the cell. The next phylum of animals, more
complex than protozoa, is phylum Porifera (also known as sponges). Sponges are multicellular filter
feeding marine animals that have cell/tissue level of organization. They are sessile, meaning they
cannot move from the substratum and they have a water filled central cavity.

Summary Of The Book On A Pale Horse
Incarnation of immortality series Book one: On a Pale Horse Samantha s overview of the book for
Sean This story was definitely a thriller. In this book we meet a man named Zane. He was a present
who did not live the best life. He was a poor man with zero income who had a habit of gambling. The
book started with this man meeting a magician who offered him stones to bring him fortune, love or
the knowledge of his death. Zane a poor man, did not have money to pay the magician for the stones.
He kept denying the offer, until he touched a stone that showed him of his demise. Now this stone
would not pinpoint exactly when or how he would die, it just showed of his death. This scared Zane.
The magician again offered the love stone. Zane did not want this stone, he wanted wealth. The
magician made him an offer he could not refuse. If Zane gave up the love stone and the love to give to
the magician he would give him the fortune stone for free. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Field Of Physical Therapy
Intro to PT Paper
There are many areas, settings in Physical therapy .Such as Pediatrics, acute care, aquatics, geriatrics,
education, oncology and so much more. I will be explaining what field of physical therapy that I
strongly feel of pursuing and my least favorite field. Then I will give my whys and why nots feedback
for each field that I talk about.
In the area of acute care, physical therapy is provided to patients who are admitted to a hospital for a
short term period of time. They can be admitted for reasons such as an accident, a surgery, or recovery
from trauma. The pathologies often seen in acute care are the following: cardiovascular atrophy, spinal
cord injury, traumatic brain injury, rheumatoid arthritis, amputations, knee ... Show more content on

Pediatrics The pediatric physical therapist works with children of all ages and their families in helping
the child to achieve functional movement after an injury or with a disability. Some pathologies seen in
this area include, cerebral palsy, genetic disorders, arthrogryposis, and muscular dystrophy. The
physical therapy will assess or evaluate areas such as the child s joint flexibility, posture, endurance,
balance, coordination, muscle strength, muscle tone, motor control, motor planning, functional
movement, equipment needs, and work to determine if the child would benefit from physical therapy
services in order to help alleviate a motor problem.
Geriatrics In this setting its groups of Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants working

The Inadequacy Of Free Enterprise
The Inadequacy of Free Enterprise The perception that there is a need for government involvement in
pensions is in large part due to the fact that private pensions are decreasingly reliable. According to
Bonnar (2008), conventional wisdom suggests that private sector defined benefit (DB) pension plans
are in the midst of a funding crisis (p. 21). In terms of how this applies to Ontario in particular, it is
probably based, Bonnar (2008) argues, on the fact that the largest 100 companies in the Toronto stock
exchange saw their median funded ratios reduced from 108 percent by the end of the year 2000 down
to 79 percent in 2005. This is despite the fact that contributions made by sponsors increased
dramatically during the same period from 4 million dollars in 2000 to 14 million in 2005. This is
based on a study looking at the largest 100 companies on the Toronto stock exchange index as
determined by market capitalization (Bonnar, 2008, p. 21). Companies that did not offer defined
benefit pension plans were excluded from the analysis. Companies in the financial sector were
reviewed separately because the financial ratios are so drastically different in that sector of the
economy than elsewhere. Robson (2008) supports the idea that private pension funds are not sufficient
to meet the retirement needs of Ontarian workers, arguing that By now, however, evidence is
overwhelming that the problems afflicting single employer defined benefit plans are not just the result
of a series

Relationship Between Emma Woodhouse And George Knightley
This essay will analyse the relationship between Emma Woodhouse and George Knightley in the text
Emma from a feminist perspective. The relationship in general contains two different personalities.
Emma is one who believes that she can create the perfect couple , which gives her the belief of
knowing everything . George Knightley is more of a moral compass for Emma, and he usually
displays his approval and disapproval of her actions. Before the relationship is examined; it would be
insightful to reflect on the social context that the text is set in like the system of patriarchy, and the
expectation of women from certain wealthy families.
The Elizabethan era was marked by the rule of Queen Elizabeth I (1558 1603). This era in English
history has often been regarded as a golden age of the time. This was due to ideas of national pride,
many reforms in areas of society, and the use of theatre alongside William Shakespeare (1564 1616).
This society was however set within the confines of patriarchy.
Emma is also set within the confines of a patriarchal Elizabethan era society. Even though the text was
written after the time of Queen Elizabeth I and Shakespeare because Jane Austen lived about 100
years after the two (1775 1817). The idea of patriarchy was one notion that continued. Patriarchy is
defined as, A system of society or government in which the father or eldest male is head of the family
and descent is traced through the male line . The father has control over the

Just Thinking about My Day
I sit down on the hard bench and eye the menu with all the disinterested acuity of a curator unpacking
artifacts. The restaurant is sparsely populated a blond couple by the window, two truckers at the bar in
denim and the company shirt, a party of and a small round clock that hangs on the wall to my right
shows 4:00 pm. It is Sunday afternoon, and I have been driving for seven hours . A customer comes in
and the noise of the bell on the door makes me turn to the window; a light drizzle falls here and there
on the turf in the parking lot and on the blacktop of the distant highway, from which the hum and
rumble of cars is still audible, still calling to me in the dimness . A strange familiarity invades my
senses at that moment, like the familiarity that comes to one in dreams when confronted with some
impossible landscape. Pale light filters down through the blotched rain clouds, eases through slits in
the half drawn shutters and falls listlessly on the table, a series of concentric circles, wan and
shimmering, like moonbeams on the surface of a rippling pond , textured by the shadow of sycamores
that lean and sway outside the window in the mist. I watch the changing patterns of light and shadow,
the shapes making and unmaking, and my imagination is tempted to new and unspeakable objects. I
have seen this all before. Where? The light and the shadow, the clock on the wall, the yellowed pages
of the menu no it was not these things that were familiar. It was something

Charles W. Chestnutt s The Marrow of Tradition Essay
Charles W. Chestnutt s The Marrow of Tradition
Clearly, one can expect differing critical views of a novel; from the
author s perspective we see one view, from a publisher s another, and from
the reviewer s yet another. This is especially true of Charles W.
Chesnutt s The Marrow of Tradition. If one observes both the contemporary
reviews of the novel and letters exchanged between Chesnutt and his
friends and publisher, Houghton, Mifflin, and Co., one will see the
disparity in opinions regarding the work. Chesnutt himself felt the work
was of at least good quality, and remarked often of its significant
purpose in letters to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reflecting upon the title of this essay, The American People Are Too
Sensible to Waste Their Time Upon Such Silly Rot, taken from the review of
The Marrow of Tradition by Katherine Glover, it is interesting to note
that the novel did receive a certain amount of public success. Chesnutt
revealed the popularity of the novel to daughter Ethel in October of its
publication year (prior to the reviews cited here). The line from Glover s
review is obviously a mean spirited attack by a racist reviewer, and is
ultimately ironic in that it did not accurately depict the sentiments of
the reading public. And in a series of letters to Booker T. Washington
Chesnutt expresses his belief that the novel has helped him to arrive as
a popular novelist. He also notes the probable popularity of the novel in
a letter to his publisher in November 1901.
All of the reviews presented here, and Chesnutt s own letters, bring to
light the sometimes apparent gap between what is achieved in the realm of
quality and what is achieved in purpose. Clearly, with few exceptions,
The Marrow of Tradition was perceived as a purpose novel, one which
proposed to uncover the

Plagiarism In Canada
In Canadian universities, the problem of plagiarism is very extensive and must be dealt with
accordingly. However, many students commit plagiarism without even realizing it. As someone
described the act of plagiarism Ignorance is never an excuse. (as cited in Tietel, 2011, Nov 8).
Technological developments have made turning it in easier than ever, so each school has its own
policy for preventing plagiarism. To better understand the plagiarism, compare the strengths and
weaknesses of George Brown College and Seneca College s academic honesty. Despite having similar
definitions, each college has its own point of view concerning plagiarism. Once these similarities and
differences have been explained in detail, the strengths and weaknesses of each policy will be evident.
In regards to the definition of plagiarism, George Brown defined plagiarism as The act of taking credit
for someone else s work. , Seneca defined as Using someone else s work. . Moreover, both college
provide detailed examples. The main example of George Brown is ... Show more content on

Ideas In Greek Drama
Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides just a few who have authored a major Greek drama. The fact that
their work is well known to this day is a curious phenomenon. Centuries go by but the ideas in Greek
drama remain. People today can enjoy performances of Greek drama because the plays relate to issues
the current generation faces.
First of all, humans have an instinctive concern for others, which is a major form of empathy.
Williams states that people experience a sensibility to the unfortunate situations of others and have a
capacity for concern and compassion. Once someone engages in the plot of a Greek drama, he or she
experiences the emotions that the characters go through. The audience and the play s characters have
an emotional connection

  • 2. Isoc Essay 3D cultures of iPSC derived neural cells: An alternative form of a brain on a chip is achieved through combinations of brain cells combined to produce a simplistic 3D model comprising neurons, glia, and if possible, a blood brain barrier (BBB, discussed in more detail later) [12, 14, 15, 31]. Such models can obviously be formed using animal cells as well as human, but as mentioned above, the development of human iPSC derived neurons and glia from patients and controls is driving the use of these highly valuable cell types in 3D modeling. The development of more complex 3D models that combine several cell types has been boosted by major advances in microfluidic engineering, producing platforms that allow the integration of small numbers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 3D environment and the extracellular matrix: One of the key reasons for why a 3D environment promotes neural cell growth and function more closely resembling that seen in vivo is due to a much richer extracellular matrix (ECM). The brain ECM is a hydrogel of hyaluronic acid with lamins, fibronectin, collagens, vitronectin, tenacins, and proteoglycans [15]. These structures provide key cell binding domains, and bioactive motifs that coordinate cell cell interactions, and signaling from growth factors [12, 15]. Altered signaling patterns leads to changes in gene and thus protein expression and subsequently cell behaviour. The ECM is also critical for interaction between glial cells and neurons and this process is dependent not only on astrocyte neuron interaction but also microglia neuron interaction and microglia astrocyte neuron interactions [15, 35, 39]. In vivo, this occurs in a 3D manner with cells interacting with many other cells, but this is impaired in 2D cultures. A 3D matrix also controls movement of oxygen, nutrient transfer and removal of wastes in a manner that occurs similar to the brain rather than the batch media of 2D cultures that bath cells in high concentrations of compounds and allow rapid diffusion of waste [34, 40]. Formation of the microenvironmental conditions optimal for neural cell function depends on a 3D matrix and its interacting proteins and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Jurassic Park Research Papers Jurassic Park is a movie based on the novel Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. The movie of course, like all films based off of books, is slightly different from the original novel. Yet, this title shares a similar theme with its original piece of work. The recreation of dinosaurs. Sadly the Jurassic Park version of dinosaur recreation will only make it harder to bring these extinct animals back to life. Our real life scientists may be able to somewhat recreate dinosaurs through Artificial Embryo Twinning or Somatic Cell Nuclear transfer. We have successfully cloned 20+ animals or recreated extinct animals such as the Bucardo or Pyrenean Ibex. The InGen scientist in Jurassic park use a form of Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. The scientists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through this technique the scientist would have to grind up the Dinosaurs bones to extract blood cells and proteins (Cloning and Dr. Loy). The only negative point in this form of recreation or cloning is that it is ...used only as a backup to the cloning that produces a full strand of DNA... . Another way would be like the InGen scientist using Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. The only precaution would be to ensure that the blood or cells being extracted are actually from dinosaurs which at this point is extremely difficult. Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer is when and ovum is created with a donor nucleus. First, the nucleus (containing the DNA) is removed and the rest of the cell is thrown out while the nucleus of an egg cell is also removed. Next, the nucleus of the somatic cell is inserted into the egg cells nucleus place. After the insertion, the host cell reprograms the somatic cell nucleus. The egg will begin to divide. Lastly, after many mitotic divisions the single cell can form a blastocyst with closely identical DNA to the original organism (SCNT). Our efforts on recreating animals have been successful to an extent. Dolly the Sheep is a perfect example of recreation (Roslin Institute, Scotland). Also animals such as the Bucardo (Bringing them back to life) , Carp, Cumulina the mouse etc. (20 animals...). The Bucardo was successfully cloned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Under The Feet Of Jesus By Helena Maria Viramontes The Power of Ethnicity How do we define power in our society? Do you we look at those with money or those who acquire many things? According to Michael Parenti the structure of whether or not someone is defined in the sense of powerful or powerlessness relies on their social class and ethnicity. In the novella Under the Feet of Jesus by Helena Maria Viramontes, we see the development of power through the main character Estrella. It is clear that although Estrella s background as a powerless migrant worker struggling to support her family financially she shifts into a powerful role as an empowered young latina woman. The novella tells the story of a young migrant worker who is faced the the responsibility to help care for her family not only financially but in a manner of leadership as well. Throughout the story the character of Estrella changes drastically from a timid outcast to an outspoken leader. In the beginning Estrella is portrayed as a quiet young woman who is defined as an outsider. When looking at the character of Estrella she is characterized in the category as powerless. One reason that we can attribute Estrella s state of power is her socio economic circumstances. Coming from a family of five, Estrella assumes the role as the oldest daughter as well as second mother due to her father s recent abandonment on the family. It is because of this abandonment that Estrella resents her mother s older boyfriend Perfecto, who in return has gotten her mother pregnant. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Bilbo Coming Of Age Essay The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien is a perfect example of a coming of age story. Bilbo, the main protagonist, started his journey as a sheltered hobbit. It was clear that he had potential to do something great, but his own insecurities and his fear to stand out crippled his progression in life. He didn t leave his house often, and he hardly took any risks. He failed to grow as an individual. Bilbo throughout the book he experienced personal growth through his encounter with the goblins he, he became confident through the events that happened at Mirkwood, and when he returned home at the end of the journey, he was filled with self love and pride. At the beginning of the book, Bilbo told Gandalf that he did not want anything to do with the journey. He feared for his safety, and he had nightmares the night before the journey started. • 6. Ophelia in William Shakespeare s Hamlet Essay Ophelia in William Shakespeare s Hamlet Follow her close, give her good watch, I pray you (IV.5.73). Ostensibly, Shakespeare s Hamlet is the riddling, enigmatic, inscrutable theatrical character par excellence. His motives, madness, conflicting morals and existential struggles are ambiguous to say the least. When analysing his character, Laertes and Fortinbras are often brought in as examples of less extreme characters dealing with similar but more tangible dilemmas. The idea that there may be someone who exceeds Hamlet in instability and incomprehensibility is unfathomable. But if one looks at the character of Ophelia, this notion not only becomes a viable possibility: it becomes unignorable. For while Hamlet is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is weighed down with others expectations, and the fact that we do not hear her contemplate the meaning of it all is not due to her mindlessness, but rather to her never having obtained the privilige of either voicing her thoughts or of questioning her situation. Ay, my lord What means this, my lord? Tis brief, my lord (III.2.106 141) are automatic. Resignation has become second nature. With the lines Tis in my memory lock d,/And you yourself shall keep the key of it (I.3.85), Ophelia surrenders all responsibility to Laertes: the image of his access to her memory is a powerful one. This, in turn, juxtaposed against Polonius demand to possess full access to their relationship, creates a disturbing picture of a young woman s complete lack of privacy. The very language Polonius uses, Give me up the truth (I.3.98) implies surrender. The fact that the word truth, is used to describe what she is meant to give up, loads the demand to breaking point. But Ophelia is not only fenced in and loaded down. She also lacks the capacity to act, so that even if she were released from her confines, she would be at a loss with what to do with her freedom. And this state of precariousness is evident in her frightend reply to Polonius My lord, I do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Importance Of Human Nature In Cory Doctorow s Little... Cory Doctorow s Little Brother is an excellent novel that combines technology and rebellion all into one book. A group of teenagers living in San Francisco become prisoners of a terrorist attack investigation when they are arrested and brought to an island by the Department of Homeland Security. They are treated awfully despite not having committed a single crime. The main character, Marcus, deems it is in his hands to take down the DHS and get revenge for what they ve done. The Bay Bridge bombing and terrorist attack, the awful treatment of the characters by the DHS, and Marcus good efforts to seek revenge, all have an impact on human nature. Doctorow s novel shows how acts of conflict can expose the cruelty of human nature as they can inflict tremendous pain on the vulnerable, but sometimes they can even cause a positive outcome. Organizing a terrorist attack reveals one s true human nature simply by having created such a vicious and cruel conflict. Within the beginning of the novel, the Bay Bridge in San Francisco was bombed and thousands of people got injured and many died. Having said that, one can infer just by recognizing the situation at hand, that the person who orchestrated the attack, was not in a positive mental state. Marcus, a character in the novel said, Terrorists don t hate landmarks or bridges or airplanes. They just want to screw stuff up and make people scared (Doctorow 73). • 8. Social Darwinist Society During The Nineteenth Century America established itself as a world power by the beginning of the twentieth century. The nation s industrial sector remained the largest in the world, gasoline cars were introduced, telephones were used, and cities were growing. Wealth could be attained, and was seen as a tangible goal. With the many different theories and revolutions endured throughout the nineteenth century, it was certainly an exciting time to be alive; but only if you were of Aryan race in the upper middle class. Social Darwinism is a term and social theory formed in the late nineteenth century to describe the idea that humans compete in a struggle for existence. This competition is also linked to Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection, resulting in survival of the fittest. The misapplied social term of social Darwinism is typically used in regards to the belief that wealthy Anglo Saxon s are biologically racially superior. Many people correlate the social Darwinist theory to the heightened rationalization of imperialism, racism, and capitalism, and the term typically has a negative connotation due to the vague understanding of it being attributed to a rejection of social responsibility and compassion. Active Social Darwinist s believe that government should not aid or interfere with societal human competition by attempting to regulate the economy or contributing to government funded programs. The laissez faire political idea is a direct reflection of a hands off capitalist society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reddit has opened up new ways to communicate and be a part of communities. These communities are now so integral to our modern culture that they are used for more than just people discussing interests online. Reddit has given has given content creators, business men, and politicians among others to manage and monitor community activity. Filmmakers/television executives use these communities to monitor the fan base of their respective media. They monitor these communities to look at fan feedback, to see what fans like or dislike about the media they are associated with. This is common in television shows as television executives need to know what fans are thinking about the show overall or the season currently airing so they know what to improve on or what the fans want. An example of this is a television executive for the television show Arrow . The executive Marc Guggenheim has an active Tumblr and Reddit account and responds to comments on sub reddits and hosts AMA s (ask me anything) to actively engage with the Arrow community. His cinematography creates an exceptionally inviting, varied look for this nocturnal story, and special visual effects are smoothly integrated into the action. The makeup that adds pale eyes, ghostly pallor and tiny blue veins to the principals faces manages to create a frisson of danger without marring the actors attractiveness (Maslin). Rousselot used dark lensing, a way to attain low key shots and thus created a huge contrast to the sets and costumes (Maslin). This made the characters seem as though they were the only important things in the otherwise dark and gloomy shots. Mise en scene The mise en scene of Interview with the Vampire is relatively theatrical in nature. Long shots are used for much of the movie and the intense close up shots are retained for the extremely moving victimization scenes where the camera closes in on the eyes of the vampire attacking its victim and what the vampire is feeling thru its eyes (Rice). Also because of the darkness of most of the settings within the movie and the lushness of the immediate sets and costuming one gets the feeling of the importance of the characters and where they are at. • 14. Negotiations With The Dispute Between The Disputants Problem Solving First of all, in order to solve any problem there need to be negotiation techniques established to deal with the dispute between both of the disputants. First, a proper negotiation technique must include the creation of a mutual frame. This frame consist of setting a good tone during the negotiators opening statement. This tone can have two different effects, either there is cooperation or competition (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p 159). There is nothing worse than having set everything up and because of the tone that the mediator has everything fall apart. Second, there needs to be an establishment of criteria in order to have both the disputants establish cooperation. When criteria is established, neither of the disputants can establish their own competiveness, however, when a disputant does establish competitiveness, it is the job of the mitigation to move out of competitiveness and move the discussion to determine the facts (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p159). Some ways to assist the mediator from successfully steering away from competiveness is by asking questions that remind both disputants that the reason they are there is to solve the problem and not cause more tension. Additionally, while some negotiators might employ brainstorming into the techniques, this is considered optional. However, I do feel that having both disputants brainstorm can assist then with considering both side of the issue when ideas are expressed freely. According to McCorkle and ... Aquinas goes on to explain that if something in motion was caused by something else then that something else must have come from something which he identifies as nothing else . This claim, that change must come from something and this line of change can not be infinite supports his claim of a higher being or god for there must always be a reason for change. The second argument being causation shows that because everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... god. The fifth and final argument argues that because we give things with no purpose or lack of knowledge a purpose, there is a god for there must have been a thing which directed a being with the intelligence to utilize a thing with none and this direction being given by god. Aquinas then ends his claim with a rebuttal to his previous objections he list in the beginning of the article. Here he uses a more direct approach of supporting his claim. The argument of why is there evil if there is a god? , is shot down by the philosopher in a romantic way. Aquinas goes on to rebuttal that god in fact does not allow evil and all evil will eventually produce good simply because god does not allow evil. He finishes the article with a last rebuttal of the causation of nature. He claims that because the causation for this is unreachable it must be traced back to god. Aquinas structures his arguments using the socratic method, giving broad claims that many would support forcing them to then except his conclusions for his five arguments for if you were to disagree then you would then be contradicting ... As a kid in my single digits, I had 45 s (singles) and whatever else one not quite a teenager yet would have, including the first Partridge Family album (1970). To my credit, I was never interested in what pop songs The Brady Bunch was putting out, but I ll admit I did have a boyhood crush on Marcia (Maureen McCormick). Along came my teen years. • 23. The Protest Song By Charles Albert Tindley The protest song selected for this report was We Shall Overcome (Various Artists, 1945) written by various artists, with lyrics originating from an older activist s hymn. This report will cover the history, purpose, lasting effects, and the value of We Shall Overcome and its predecessor I ll Overcome Someday . We Shall Overcome the protest song has found itself tied to multiple social movements, however, its origin has its roots planted in the civil rights movement. After researching about this song I came across the fact that the lyrics and the style of the song originated from I ll Overcome Some Day , a hymn created by Charles Albert Tindley, An East Coast Methodist Minister, in 1901. Charles Tindley was the son of an African American slave father and free mother. It wasn t until the mid 1940s (ten years after Charles had passed on, leaving behind a lifetime of community work and activism) that we see the first rendition of the modern We Shall Overcome as a protest song by a tobacco and food union group. A few short years later in 1947 this song s title was recognized as We Shall Overcome in an edition of people s songs bulletin , a publication directed by Pete Seeger, who is very well known for his rendition of this song and many others. The manipulation of the human memory is key to man s control over the human mind. Memory can divide what humans see and what humans can remember. Some memories may be deceitful, but it all depends on the state of mind and past experiences of that individual. Memory isn t just a personal experience that s based only on that person, an event can change people physically and mentally. Memory is based off of multiple factors that occur in the brain. It s a deep subject that both neuropsychologist and psychologist have tried to completely understand in the past decade. Author Carl Gunther said that Underneath the mind s perceptual process is the mysterious mechanics of memory (Gunther 87). In hopes of a new future where memory isn t so mysterious. Humans are digging deeper in the unknown such as neuroscientist Bence Olveczky of the Harvard University in Cambridge Massachusetts. To explain how Olveczky would discover a possible breakthrough in manipulating the human mind would take time. To grasp the concept of manipulating memory one would have to know the history and meaning of memory. Humans consider memory as the ability to remember things, true, but is also the ability to Encode, store, retain and subsequently recall information and past experiences in the human brain (Mastin The Human Memory ). Many politicians who are anti immigrant and pro immigrant seek for ways by which they can impact their political base. As research shows, politicians and anti immigrant groups take advantage of the mass media in order to persuade their constituency. The media uses quantitative data analysis of the unauthorized population to create a media spectacle, by the portrayal of unauthorized immigrants as criminals (Correa Cabrera 2012). This media spectacle serves to exploit the fears of many Americans who oppose legalization. As a result, many people feel encouraged to contact their local representatives to stand against the legalization of the unauthorized population. Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 First, it is important to present a historical context of unauthorized immigration to understand the current dilemma. In order to change discriminatory immigration policies, the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was signed into law. After the 1965 act, immigration from Asia and Latin America increased dramatically. In recent years, with the rapid development of the economy, many large cities around the world have been reclassified as megacities, particularly in developing countries. Meaning their cell or cells contain a nucleus, are surrounded by a cell membrane (phospholipid bilayer) and can self reproduce in a free medium. However, not all animals are anatomically the same. Micronuclei are very carefully copied and moved so that each daughter cell gets one, but once division is complete usually new macronuclei will be produced from each cell s micronucleus, so careful shepherding of the macronucleus is not necessary. Sexual reproduction in ciliates is called conjugation. During conjugation, there is a transfer of genetic material via cell to cell contact by a bridge like connection. The last system, which can be replaced by an organelle in the protozoa, is the nervous system. The function of the nervous system is to regulate and correlate body activities through conduction within and between individual cells or neurons, which eventually cause a response in some other system. In the paramecium, the macro and micronuclei are responsible for the functions of the nervous system. The nucleus is the control center of the cell and it contains the genetic info needed to copy to make new cells. Just as the brain, nerves and spinal cord would work; the micronucleus and macronucleus control the activities of the cell. • 46. The Inadequacy Of Free Enterprise The Inadequacy of Free Enterprise The perception that there is a need for government involvement in pensions is in large part due to the fact that private pensions are decreasingly reliable. According to Bonnar (2008), conventional wisdom suggests that private sector defined benefit (DB) pension plans are in the midst of a funding crisis (p. 21). In terms of how this applies to Ontario in particular, it is probably based, Bonnar (2008) argues, on the fact that the largest 100 companies in the Toronto stock exchange saw their median funded ratios reduced from 108 percent by the end of the year 2000 down to 79 percent in 2005. This is despite the fact that contributions made by sponsors increased dramatically during the same period from 4 million dollars in 2000 to 14 million in 2005. This is based on a study looking at the largest 100 companies on the Toronto stock exchange index as determined by market capitalization (Bonnar, 2008, p. 21). Companies that did not offer defined benefit pension plans were excluded from the analysis. Companies in the financial sector were reviewed separately because the financial ratios are so drastically different in that sector of the economy than elsewhere. Robson (2008) supports the idea that private pension funds are not sufficient to meet the retirement needs of Ontarian workers, arguing that By now, however, evidence is overwhelming that the problems afflicting single employer defined benefit plans are not just the result of a series ... • 47. Relationship Between Emma Woodhouse And George Knightley This essay will analyse the relationship between Emma Woodhouse and George Knightley in the text Emma from a feminist perspective. The relationship in general contains two different personalities. Emma is one who believes that she can create the perfect couple , which gives her the belief of knowing everything . George Knightley is more of a moral compass for Emma, and he usually displays his approval and disapproval of her actions. Before the relationship is examined; it would be insightful to reflect on the social context that the text is set in like the system of patriarchy, and the expectation of women from certain wealthy families. The Elizabethan era was marked by the rule of Queen Elizabeth I (1558 1603). This era in English history has often been regarded as a golden age of the time. This was due to ideas of national pride, many reforms in areas of society, and the use of theatre alongside William Shakespeare (1564 1616). This society was however set within the confines of patriarchy. Emma is also set within the confines of a patriarchal Elizabethan era society. Even though the text was written after the time of Queen Elizabeth I and Shakespeare because Jane Austen lived about 100 years after the two (1775 1817). The idea of patriarchy was one notion that continued. Patriarchy is defined as, A system of society or government in which the father or eldest male is head of the family and descent is traced through the male line . The father has control over the ... • 48. Just Thinking about My Day I sit down on the hard bench and eye the menu with all the disinterested acuity of a curator unpacking artifacts. The restaurant is sparsely populated a blond couple by the window, two truckers at the bar in denim and the company shirt, a party of and a small round clock that hangs on the wall to my right shows 4:00 pm. It is Sunday afternoon, and I have been driving for seven hours . A customer comes in and the noise of the bell on the door makes me turn to the window; a light drizzle falls here and there on the turf in the parking lot and on the blacktop of the distant highway, from which the hum and rumble of cars is still audible, still calling to me in the dimness . A strange familiarity invades my senses at that moment, like the familiarity that comes to one in dreams when confronted with some impossible landscape. Pale light filters down through the blotched rain clouds, eases through slits in the half drawn shutters and falls listlessly on the table, a series of concentric circles, wan and shimmering, like moonbeams on the surface of a rippling pond , textured by the shadow of sycamores that lean and sway outside the window in the mist. I watch the changing patterns of light and shadow, the shapes making and unmaking, and my imagination is tempted to new and unspeakable objects. I have seen this all before. Where? The light and the shadow, the clock on the wall, the yellowed pages of the menu no it was not these things that were familiar. It was something ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chestnutt s The Marrow of Tradition Clearly, one can expect differing critical views of a novel; from the author s perspective we see one view, from a publisher s another, and from the reviewer s yet another. This is especially true of Charles W. Chesnutt s The Marrow of Tradition. If one observes both the contemporary reviews of the novel and letters exchanged between Chesnutt and his friends and publisher, Houghton, Mifflin, and Co., one will see the disparity in opinions regarding the work. Chesnutt himself felt the work was of at least good quality, and remarked often of its significant purpose in letters to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reflecting upon the title of this essay, The American People Are Too Sensible to Waste Their Time Upon Such Silly Rot, taken from the review of The Marrow of Tradition by Katherine Glover, it is interesting to note that the novel did receive a certain amount of public success. Chesnutt revealed the popularity of the novel to daughter Ethel in October of its publication year (prior to the reviews cited here). The line from Glover s review is obviously a mean spirited attack by a racist reviewer, and is ultimately ironic in that it did not accurately depict the sentiments of the reading public. And in a series of letters to Booker T. Washington Chesnutt expresses his belief that the novel has helped him to arrive as
