2. What Did I Do?
My A2 Media studies course involved creating a short horror film as well as two
ancillary tasks:
-A film poster
-A magazine review
Both are used in real life media in order to attract an audiences attention to a film
and to get more recognition for a media product. The poster and review I created
needed to be effective when used with my main product(my film).

3. POSTER
The poster I had to create needed to create
intrigue and interest for an audience to want to
come and see my film.
In Order to begin to do this I looked into other
horror film posters and analyzed some to find
forms and conventions of them in order to
make the most effective poster possible.
After research I created my own film
poster for my own film ‘On The Loose’. I
used many of the conventions of horror
posters such as the main colours used-
red, black and white. I used images from
my film to allow my audience to see a bit
bout the film in order to peak their
interest into it. My poster also reflects the
end tone of my film, being dark and in
mostly shadows which also creates
suspense for the audience as they cannot
see clearly what they will be faced with
when they watch it. Overall these
elements help with a film posters
purpose-to advertise a film and by using
the conventions of already successful film
posters I was myself able to create a
successful poster which advertised my
film.

4. Magazine Review
My next ancillary task was a magazine review of my film. Again
before beginning this task I did some research into magazine
reviews and how to write one. I found that most film reviews
placed a still from the film on one side of the page, often the
right and had columns of text on the other, most often the left.
I followed these conventions as well as others such as the title
of the film with some form of star rating and often broke up
the text with images or quotations.
A film reviews purpose is to inform a
possible audience about the film being
reviewed and to give an overall opinion as
to whether it is worth going to the cinema
to watch. I read several reviews before
writing mine and designing it and also
researched what kind of things to write in it
and the best structure to use. Overall I was
able to give an idea of the films plot
without spoiling the film and was able to
give it a review that aimed to get an
audience to watch ‘On The Loose’.

5. Overall I felt that both of my ancillary tasks
were effective in combination with my main
product, my film, and helped to advertise it
as well as inform an audience about what to
expect using conventions of successful
posters and reviews and elements and stills
from my own film within them.
