this is the first conclusion question of my final film opening.

1. How does my product use or
challenge conventions and how does
it represent social groups or issues?

2. Conventions
To use and challenge conventions was an important and
interesting task which might effect the final product.
I have made a psychological horror film. I had use several
conventions in my film to support the genre, include idents,
titles…
• In most of feature film openings, the title start with major
idents for the distribution and production companies.
• All titles follow the same order.

3. Challenging
Many film openings has been made in same genre. The director need to
change and produce new ideas that may cause challenging and stimulate
audience’s interest for more products.
In my film opening, I had completely created a new idea, but use some
similar idea which base on other film openings, such as close-up shot in
‘Seven’ correspond the shots of researching in my film opening. Despite
that, the most challenging part is how to do to let the audience to
understand the story and why the shots has been made. I had reshot and
add new scene after the primary editing, I had showed my film to other
people to get few feedback which helps me to improve better film
opening edit.

4. Idents
Idents can be see in many film openings especially those produced
by major film companies, for example, Sony, Universal pictures. This
is in contrast to independent films that attract the funding for
different sources.
In the film opening, I use two different idents:
Independent Logo ( create one by myself)
Major Film Studio Logo ( Colombia)

5. Titles
Film title is used to describing the craft and design of motion picture title
sequences. Titles can be used as an artwork, it often used to represent
the genre by various style of fonts.
Use classic font for film company.
Established a regular and formal Logo.
Use special font for
foreshadowing the genre.
Established a struggle and
unusual film style.

6. Shots
To filmed shots is the way of following conventions, which lead the
audience understanding. I tired different depths of fields and angles, and I
always get struggled with the use of shots which better support my film.
• A long shot emphasis the character is an anonymous person no one known
as a loner.
• A close-up shot stimulate the important of the candy and show the candy to
the audience as key-code.
• A mid-shot used to focus on the character’s face to indicate a peep feeling
and increased tension.
• A tracking shot follow the character behind indicate an unsafe feeling to
stimulate the unusual atmosphere to the audience.

8. Editing techniques
Editing is the main part of secondary effect which affect the audience to
understand the epistasis and the theme. In my film editing, I had use few
techniques to emphasis the context.
• Use montage in between of the opening which establish the research
of context and introduced the character by those informations.
• I had represent the mind work of the character by jump cut which
stimulate the unrealistic image she has seen.
• A eyeliner match indicate the special attraction of candy that affect the
character and foreshadow the changes.

10. Audience
A media ‘audience’ refers to the consumers of a media product.
In my film opening, the main character is a young girl who is represented
as a lonely girl with slight mental disorder. I tired to represent the
character as normal as a part of social group by wearing leather shoes
and sport coat inside down jacket. A MacBook and colour pens also
stimulate a daily life of the student. All the tools and clothes are
established a relationship between the character and audience.
