Battle Analysis of San Juan Hill Essay
Battle analysis of San Juan Hill
Introduction
Throughout American history, a number of battles come to hold iconic positions in the shaping of
this great nation: Lexington and Concord, the Battle of Bunker Hill, the Alamo, Gettysburg,
Belleau Wood, Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and the Battle of the Bulge, just to name a
few. When the Spanish American War of is thought of, the Battle of San Juan Hillundoubtedly
comes to mind. Americans think of the great sacrifices throughout the fight. They think of Teddy
Roosevelt charging up San Juan hill, leading his Rough Riders to a miraculous victory. They

crowd of soldiers, situated by their artillery s burn and their surveillance balloon, came under
Spanish fire. The major assault began at 1:00 P.M. The key to the attack on San Juan Hill by a
U.S. infantry partition was the effectual flames of a series of three Gatling (machine) guns that
brushed the peak and forced most of the Spanish protectors to flee as the infantry in some disorder

To the right, in the intervening time, rudiments of a get down cavalry dissection moved alongside
Kettle Hill. Devoid of advantage of weaponry or the Gatling gun, and in the countenance of serious
opponent fire, the get down troopers of two usual military cavalry regiments, the First and the Ninth
(the last one of the army s black regiments), and the First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, moved
up the grades and drove the Spanish military from the entrenchments at the summit.

The U.S. Army, given the size of the force, was pressed by American public alert, and even more

What is CRISPR?
CRISPR stands for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeat, referring to the
repeating DNA sequences found in the genomes of microorganisms. CRISPR technology allows
scientists to make precise changes in genes by splicing and replacing these DNA sequences with
new ones. Through these changes, the biology of the cell is altered and possibly affects the health
of an organism. The possibilities are endless as this offers opportunities in curing deadly diseases,
modifying genes, and changing humanity as we know it. Although bioengineering has been around
since the 1960s, CRISPR is significant because of the comparative low costs and the ease of the

Arm Wrestling With My Father Rhetorical Analysis
The relationship between a father and their child is tremendously salient, and will influence the life
of both the parent and the adolescent in many ways. Often, it can be difficult for someone to share
their personal relationships that they had with their father, as it can be a very delicate subject.
Despite this, renowned authors Brad Manning and Sandra Cisneros are two people who chose to
write about their unique experiences and childhoods that they shared with their fathers. Both Brad
and Sandra felt their childhood relationships with their fathers were unorthodox. This was explicitly
outlined in Brad s freshman composition paper titled Arm Wrestling With My Father and Sandra s
magazine article titled Only Daughter. Through varying rhetorical strategies, the authors purpose
and audience is clearly portrayed in both selections. One of the most important components to any
piece of writingis the intended audience. In Arm Wrestling With My Father, Manning s intended
audience is anyone who may have had an abnormal or physical relationship with their father. He
wanted his paper to be read by individuals that grew up with a lack of emotional love and an
abundance of physical contact with their fathers. Although there was love between Manning and
his father, it was clear that neither party wanted to acknowledge it. He wrote this in his freshman
composition course at Harvard, knowing that although it was going to his professors, it was meant
for anyone who may have experienced

The Return Of Martin Guerre Analysis
Natalie Zemon Davis The Return of Martin Guerre tells the true story of a peasant named Martin
Guerre, who was at the center of a famous case of imposture in France in the sixteenth century.
Davis takes the facts of this famous case from two primary sources including a book written by
one of the trial judges of the case in Toulouse, Jean de Coras, called Arreste Memorable and one
by a lawyer, Guillaume La Sueur, called Admiranda Historia. Davis uses other secondary sources to
add details about peasant life including information about marriage, family, economics, religion,
village social structure, as well as the political structure of the time. Davis moves beyond the facts
and tries to interpret and understand the motivations of the characters in the story. For example,
she assumes that Bertrande silently agreed to the fraud of Arnaud du Tilh because she wanted a
husband and could not remarry after her husband abandoned her. This seems more believable to me
than Bertrande just being stupid or naive and not knowing the difference between her husband and
a stranger. In the preface of the book she admits she was generating not proofs, but historical
possibilities (Davis, viii). I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Martin s life convinced most of the village including his four sisters, uncle, and even his wife, that

and friends for more than three years, during which time Bertrande mothered two of his
children, with only one surviving. Du Tilh was wonderfully fluent of tongue and had a memory an
actor would envy (Davis, 37). Growing up he was known as dissolute, a youth of bad life, absorbed
in every vice. (Davis, 38). His cleverness was even said to be suspected of

In this film De Sica preferred using real people in his film instead of actors Lamberto

from De Sica, a cinema of collective conscience and social concern.

Water On Mars, But Not In California
The Coachella Valley is a civilization built by water, sustained by water, and requires an awful lot
of this rapidly diminishing resource. As a hub for tourist activities such as golfing which use
copious amounts of water just to stay operational, the Valley must address Californias growing
drought. One would think that California should be the last state experiencing a water shortage
because it is bordered by the largest body of water in the world, the Pacific Ocean, however this
is not the case at all. Because the Pacific is an ocean, its water must be purified which is a long
and expensive process, and because of the hot and dry natural climate, California is especially prone

The response to this statewide disaster requires the combined efforts of all state agencies and

J Alfred Prufrock Tone
The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock
Paper Assignment Close Reading
In T.S. Eliot s 1915 modernist poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock , the overall mood and
tone in the poem reflect the speaker s opinions of the time it was written in. An interesting way
to look at this poem is to assume that the author used the character of Alfred Prufrock to explore
his own attempt of trying to make sense of the rapidly changing, confusing, and gloomy world in
which he lived. So, we can safely assume that trying to make sense of the outside world is a
recurring motif in this poem. This can be seen by looking at both the poem as a whole, as well as
the quote chosen for analysis.
By choosing to use nature imagery, such as Combing the white hair of the waves blown back , the
author depicts the speaker s need to retreat to nature in order to seek a peaceful spot to reflect on
his choices and try to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This evokes feelings of deep empathy in the reader by making him or her better understand
Prufrock s state of mind at the moment. Moreover, this entire stanza in which there is a beach and
mermaids which are singing at each other rather than the speaker, has a very melancholic tone,
which is in compliance with the overall gloomy and melancholic tone of this poem. When the
speaker says: And indeed there will be time / To wonder, Do I dare? and, Do I dare? / , we get a
sense that the mysterious object of romantic interest he refers to does not actually know how the
speaker feels about them. We also get a sense that the speaker is anxious that if he, in fact,
expresses his feelings, he might be rejected. The following verses are linked to the speaker s fears
of rejection I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. / I do not think they re singing at me.
. With this, we actually get a glimpse into the unconscious mind of the speaker. We

The Adventures Of The Speckled Band By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
The Adventures of the Speckled Band , by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is a mystery story in which a
detective, Sherlock Holmes, investigated the strange happenings that had occurred in
Stoke Moran Manor during 1883, early April in England. It all began with a woman named
Helen Stoner, who visited Sherlock and his assistant Dr. Watson. They listened intently as Helen
explained how her sister Julia died years ago on the eve of her wedding. Helen was frightened
for her life, with her own impending wedding. The mood was anxious while the tone was
serious, as Helen s story became darker. When her sister died, the only clues she left behind
before her sudden death were that she saw a speckled band and heard constant whistles in the
night, which Helen heard as well. The evidence had momentarily led Sherlock to believe that
gypsies had murdered her. Helen s stepfather, Dr. Roylott seemed to be an awfully suspicious
character, especially considering his hot temper, or his background of committing crimes, including
killings; furthermore, there was proof that Dr. Roylott had handled Helen viciously, leaving marks
on her wrist. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson concluded that the matter was indeed serious;
therefore they decided to take action that day by analyzing more clues at the Manor itself. Nobody
was aware of the trouble that lurked outside the front door.

Essay about The Impact Of Religious Settlers In Religious...
The places where we live today have not always been here. The way we live has not always been
the same. In fact, very few places that existed back in the colonial times exist today. If they still
exist, it is because of the success gained over the years gone by after the settlers came to the New
World. Settlers came to the New World in search of many things. They came in search of gold,
they came for new lives, and they came for religious freedom.
In England, during this time period, people were being judged, separated and persecuted on the

Among these people who were busy trying to remake a remarkable Christian life, there were
people who didn t necessarily agree with the common viewpoint. These people became known as
dissenters. Dissenters were often persecuted for their beliefs, and just a few up and went and
actually made a difference. They are still recognized today.
In the colony of Rhode Island, there was one main dissenter who was very well known. He was the

that he believed that the civil government of the colony had no right to punish religious dissenters.
He felt that people s personal views of the religion should not be punished because everyone is
entitled to their own opinion.

Applying An Analytical Model Of A Plane Wall
Abstract
To conduct a proper analysis of the 1 D transient conduction in a plane wall we must take the
necessary mathematical procedures to obtain an analytical model that accurately represents the
heat transfer that occurs. The equation must accurately model a plane wall that has a thickness L,
is well insulated on one side, but is still vulnerable to convection on the other side. In order to
complete the model, one must scale the problem in terms of both a length scale and a time scale to
transform the variables to a dimensionless form that allows for a set of solutions that can be
narrowed down to the simple parameter, Bi=hL/k.
Introduction Mathematical Model
This analysis looks into the phenomena of 1 D transient conduction in a plane wall of thickness L
that is insulated on one side and subject to convection on the other. The conduction is governed by
the differential heat equation: u_t=в€
ќu_xx (1)
Here, u signifies the temperature of the entire body and в€
ќ signifies the thermal diffusivity.
Furthermore, the differential heat equation above must respect the following boundary conditions:
u_x |_(x=0)=0
ku_x |_(x=L)=h(u| T_в€
ћ) u|_(t=0)=T_i In the above boundary conditions, k represents a material
property commonly referred to as thermal conductivity, whereas T_i represents the initial
temperature throughout the wall. In this instance the flow conditions are such that they sustain

Like Price, Buffett has profited enormously through his investments. To apply Price s and Buffett s

Germany s Economy And The Economy Essay
Germany While looking at an overview of Germany s economy and individual can tell, the country
is very economically sound and efficient. Even though Germany s economy is currently doing
very well, the still deals with different fiscal policies, lags and deficits, like any other country.
There are also a couple of other factors that play into Germanys economy, including banking and
financial institutions, and international trade.
There are two kinds of fiscal policies; expansionary and contractionary. An expansionary fiscal
policy per the textbook Macroeconomics Principles, Problems, and Policies, consists of
government spending, tax reductions or both, designed to increase aggregate demand and therefore
raise real GDP. Germany Cuts 2016 Tax Revenue Forecast Due to their migrant crisis. Their total
tax dollars will be lower than previous years to create pressure in their economy. They made this tax
cut so that they stop getting all the immigrants to move into their economy. Germany is trying to
keep their money within their country instead of new consumers (Bender).
A contractionary consists of government spending regulations, tax increases or both, designed to
decrease aggregate demand and therefore lower or eliminate inflation (Bender). German has a tax
reform that causes and increase in taxes on their fuel and energy. This is going to affect the
industries and the producers. They have done this because of the impact of the competitiveness. The

Pop art was a direct response to the commercial and consumer society of modern time . Explain
why this might be true.
Pop art was an art formed by artist expressing their views on modern day society. Pop art
originally emerged from England in the fifties; although it was not exploited in England, in fact
during the fifties it wasn t very well implemented. In the sixties, in New York, pop art began to
have a high prospective. Many artists soon realized that pop art could be expressed in a variety of

In 1961 Roy Lichtenstein made use of the Ben Day dots . This was the first time an artist had used
this device. Lichtenstein exploited this and turned it into a signature for himself on his paintings of

Many Pop artists have attempted to and inspired an impersonal approach in to work trying not to
offend any community. Although in many circumstances pop artist did impose their own views in
their work, Pop artist took this opportunity to criticize society.
Quadrant 1982: The piece of art work on the left which Andy Warhol had created criticized the
way society is fixated on money. Warhol was an idealist. He had managed to survive W.W.II., he
realized the important values of life. The Quadrant symbolized how society had always been.
It shows the $ symbol in four different colors. This translated to people as different times but the

The Ben Day dots led the way for commercial use of pop art.
Lichtenstein used this to his advantage and exploited it. The Ben Day dots was an efficient use in

striking pop art was created by Roy Lichtenstein. Lichtenstein manipulated the way we see day to

Essay On Cancer Insurance
When a patient hears the word cancer, his or her mind often enters complete shock. Then, the
questions of, How serious? Is it treatable? What can I do? How long do I have? emerge. Patients
should not have to ask, How much will this cost? Instead, they should have peace of mind
knowing that some of their expenses will be covered by a very basic health insuranceplan; however,
this is often not the case.
Unfortunately, Mary Casey, a 57 year old Missouri native, experienced the exact opposite of
peace of mind when she was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma. Even though Casey had a
health care policy with some basic cancer coverage, her insurance company, Coventry Health Care
of Kansas, denied paying for a potential lifesaving drug, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because many insurance companies are privately owned, each corporation is able to determine
what they choose to cover for each plan and often require an extra plan for cancer coverage.
However, the Affordable Care Act calls for preventative services such as mammograms, cancer
screenings, and tobacco cessation interventions. Even though an individual has health insurance,
meets all the co pays, deductibles, completes preventative measures, and other requirements of the
agency, there is no guarantee that the provider with start paying for cancer treatment the day the
individual is diagnosed. This needs to change. The federal government needs to enact a new
public policy that requires each insurance company to cover certain cancer treatments, even in
their most basic plans. The federal government will decide which treatments are covered to ensure
that cases, such as Mary Casey s and Angie Schacher s do not occur. By implementing this new
policy, every individual will have cancer coverage, will no longer need to think about buying
additional plans, and may receive peace of mind when struck with a life changing

The Evolution Of The Human Race
Faith Vs. Fact The universe is a vast and endless portal of knowledge and experience whose
origin and creation is not fully proven. There are two ideologies that the human race has adopted
into giving reason for our existence as well as our evolution; this being, religion, and science.
Science and religionhave been in a conflicting battle against each other in discovering truthabout the
universe and their main ideas disregard the other making them ultimately incompatible.
Throughout history this conflict has been proven through, Galileo s sentence of house arrest in
1632 over his claim of a sun centered solar system, to the more recent Scopes Monkey Trial, in
1925; that lead to the great debate between Darrow and Jennings Bryan over the teaching of
evolution in schools, (Coyne beginning). Not all religions primarily focus on the dismissing of
scientific notions of truth and the opposition to science, and this is where accomodationism, is
introduced. That said, it is a belief by those that think that there can be a compromise between two
opposing perspectives, and in this case it being science and religion and both contributing to the
theory of evolution. Jerry A. Coyne is an evolutionary biologist that has made claims that science
and religion will never be able to have compatibility, but views not that religion and science have
always been implacable enemies, with the former always hindering the latter. Instead, he sees them
as making overlapping claims , each

body of her host, Melanie Stryder, she obtains her physical attributes, which include tan skin and
long, dark, and glossy hair. Her name implies her traits; she was named Wanderer because, in her
previous eight lives, she had traveled to many planets and knows little to nothing about human

Melanie Stryder is a major character in the book, for she is the previous owner of the body that
Wanderer was placed into. She is quite defiant in the beginning, refusing to cooperate and allow
Wanderer to take over her body completely. This creates conflict for both girls because they are
nothing alike. Melanie is very determined and is known to have a negative mind,

At the time that Arthur called a halt to Gaius s execution, coolly postponing his father s judgement

Summary Of The Passing Of Age By Gwen Harwood
The passing of time emphasizes the importance of growing on one s journey. Gwen Harwood s
fusion of modernist and romantic poetry uses powerful narratives to understand growth on one s
journey through the transition from innocence to experience, the quest for whole identity and the
cyclical nature of life. Father and Child charts a child s journey from innocence to experience
capturing the individual growth from maturing experiences. Alter Egoillustrates the questioning and
acceptance of ourselves in life and death. Lastly, At Mornington canvasses the need to reconcile
with ourselves of the inevitability of death with the fleeting nature of time. Thus, readers are
engaged by Harwood s poetrythrough its poetic treatment of growth and time, encouraging us to
reconcile with ourselves on our individual growth in life.
Growth implies a change from one position to another with experiences over time in this case from
innocence to maturity. Father and child is a two part poem depicting the relationship between a
father and child demonstrating the growth from maturing experiences it displays that with the
acquisition of knowledge innocence is sacrificed. The idea of childhood innocence is a Romantic
idea, the process of growing up is shown through part one Barn Owl. In the first stanza, biblical
allusions and descriptive language are used to describe the child as blessed and angel mind
conveying the purity of childhood. This is a time where the child s life

key in any relationship. In the Odyssey, Odysseusis loyal to his men while his men are loyal to

The Threat Of Liberty Equality Based Societies By Alexis...
Threat to Liberty in Equality Based Societies While traveling across the United States, Alexis de
Tocqueville recorded how democracy operates and the roles of its participants in, Democracy in
America. Tocqueville demonstrates his admiration of the American democratic system and
Americans dedication to freedom, equality, and supporting one another. Despite these praises, there
is also a looming danger against liberty in not only America, but in all societies based on equality.
The most imminent threat to liberty in these societies is despotism as it prevents individuals from
exercising their natural freedoms and rights. Tocqueville proposes resolutions to this threat, such as,
governmentdecentralization and civil associations. Despotism flourishes in equal societies due to
individuals isolating themselves and forming a centralized governing institution. As stated by
Tocqueville, Equality places men beside one another without a common bond to hold them.
Equality disposes them not to think of those like themselves... (485). With aristocracies, a society
not concerned with equality, there is a ligature between individuals within each socioeconomic
class. For instance, the noblemen associate with noblemen, while the poor associate with the poor.
However, with societies based on equality, mankind is no longer divided by their means. The
wealthy are equal to the poor in rights and freedoms, but not in monetary wealth. Lacking this
unification amongst each other s

He starts by claiming that this new Supersonic hair dryer has a tiny but powerful, motor the
same technology Dyson employs in its blade less fans that produce a strong, even flow of hot air
(Shin p. 3). This statement aids in the argument that this hair dryer is to be admired. He goes on
to tell us about the weight of the object and that the motor is located inside of the handle. He
compares this aspect of the dryer to that of other dryers, stating that classic hair dryers have that L
shape and a large motor, creating an off centered and uncomfortable handle. In addition, Shin
makes note of the three styling attachments that snap onto the dryer. All of these features of the
Supersonic hair dryer help to invoke an aesthetic appeal that creates beauty and attractiveness to
the overall product. By going into detail and describing the functions of the different parts of the
hair dryer, Shin attracts the reader to its exquisite design and purpose. There is evidently more
convince in the design of this dryer as well, with it including a more comfortable grip. Slack and

The Great Civilization Of Athens
The plague of Athens led to the death and destruction of not only a mass of people, but the entire
civilization. This cataclysmic event that ended the great civilization of Athens has inspired
countless authors to write about it. Starting at the beginning of 431 BCE, historian Thucydides
wrote his take on it. In his work, The History of the Peloponnesian War, Thucydidesdiscussed the
social and political consequences of the plague; a personal account on the experiences he lived
through. Anywhere during 99 55 BCE, poet Lucretius had his work, On the Nature of the Universe,
end with an account of the Athenian plague. Lucretius s account was nearly an exact translation of
Thucydides account, but whereas Thucydides wrote historically and genuinely on his experiences
on the plague, Lucretius left certain things out and elaborated on others as he wrote it as part of
natural phenomenon and laid out his writing to tell, in a didactic poem, the mental experience of
the Athenian people.
Thucydides was a historical writer who wrote his recollections on The History of the Peloponnesian
War. He began to write at the beginning of the war at 431, as he felt it deserved to be recorded
and was composed to be a lasting possession for all time. His writing was meant to help and show
the future; he wrote regarding the Athenian plague, so if another plague breaks out people may
know in advance and not be ignorant.
In Thucydides report, he talks about the plague, event by event.

Hofstede s Improve Four Dimensions Helping Others
Analysing 116 000 survey questionnaires, Hofstede s improve four dimensions helping others to
understand different culture behaviour. These dimensions were created based on simple problems
that most societies have every day.
The first dimension, power distance (PD), refers to hierarchy , to how inequality is approved by
subordinates and superiors, how power is divided between societies and how people behave with
authority. Hofstede divided this dimension in low which are societies with characteristics as
inequality at the minimum level, everyone enjoy the same benefits, subordinates opinion is taken
into account, managers should be democrat and high that includes societies that are autocrats
superiors, centralized structure, dependent subordinates, hierarchy reflects difference, superiors
have benefits.
The second dimension is uncertainty avoidance, and it shows how people react when they feel
threatened, societies that do not take risks or don t try new situations. This dimension is divided in
low and the main characteristics are rules are not allowed, common sense, hard work is not a virtue,
not structured activities. In the other side there re societies with the high uncertainty avoidance
characterized for don t allow changes, established rules, just in necessary cases, experts have the
better knowledge.
Then is the Individualism vs Group/collectivist orientation, this dimension shows How people
distribute their social life, importance of group life, goal achievements

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hard Disk Interface
The hard disk interface characterizes the physical segments and logical segments based on the
connectivity of the hardware to the computer. In the 1980s, the most mainstream disk interfaces
were ST506/412 and ESDI, which are presently out of date. These old drives utilize two strip

SCSI disks are occasionally utilized as a part of desktop PCs since they cost more than ATA

Educational Law And The Legal Service
On the face of it, clinical legal education is beneficial to both the student cohort and the local
community as it provides students with the opportunity to gain practical experience while
delivering a service to the public. It is defined by Kerrigan as learning through participation in
real or realistic legal interactions, coupled with reflections on this experience . Through this, a
focus is placed on facilitating learning through a practice based approach grounded on client
interaction. This generates a natural tension between fulfilling the educational aims of a clinic
and the legal service needs of clients. This paper will examine such tensions, practically and
theoretically, in respect to pedagogical instruction and lack of supervisory resources while
providing personal reflections. It will conclude that there is to an exaggerated extent an imbalance
between the educational aims of law clinics and the legal service needs of clients; however, this is
not to the detriment of the client as it does not affect the quality of legal aidgiven by students.
Exploiting Vulnerable People for Pedagogical Benefits
Educational law clinics raise the ethical dilemma of exploiting vulnerable people in society for
pedagogical benefits. As such, if a supervisor believes that a case provides an inadequate
educational benefit, it may be turned away; or in circumstances whereby a case has been opened,

wanted to be, a wealthy, unbound, and powerful person. He never really accepted his parents

What Are The Effects Of The Cold War In The 1940s
At the heart of the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union in the 1940s was a
fundamental difference in the ways the great powers envisioned the postwar world. After World
War II countries were in chaos, no one was able to agree on what should happen to the postwar
world. While the Soviet Unionand the United Stateswere allies during the world wars, they were
the one with the biggest issues during the aftermath of the war and their issues ended up becoming
what we now know as the Cold War. Many issues led up to this war and to this day we still suffer
from the war and the American people still fear communism.
To begin with, both the United States and the Soviet Union had their own beliefs about what
would benefit our world during the postwar period. After World War II, both Russia and the
United States competed to be the greatest world power, When two sides competed for influence
and power in this way, the Cold War began. The United States and the Soviet Union were both

The Contraception And The World Health Organization
Since sex in this day and age is nothing new, then it s not that uncommon for pregnancies to be
related to it. Unlike in years past where women had few means of a contraceptive to prevent
pregnancy, currently we have various different methods. We have several different contraceptive
devices for both males and females. There are methods like: condoms, vasectomies, tube tying,
pills, and more importantly abortion. Since it s women who have to endure nine months to give
birth to child they may or may not want, women should have the choice on whether or not they
want to go through with the pregnancy, and they shouldn t be limited to the contraceptive means.
The issue on whether or not abortion is rightful or unconstitutional mainly comes down to one s
morals. The World Health Organization created a fact sheet about family planning and the it said
that an estimated 225 million women in developing countries would like to delay or stop
childbearing... (Family) These women across the world could have a huge variety of reasons to not
want to go through childbirth. Some of these reasons could be to prevent pregnancy related health
risks in women, reduce adolescent pregnancies, or reduce infant mortality as summarized from a
World health Organization.(Family) Though a woman s reason may be different between one
another, women have fought for many some years to have the right of choice. Controversy on
abortion has been around for decades, and one of the first major Supreme Court

Public History
Danielle Sherrard
Introduction to Public History
Ever since public history emerged on college universities in the 1980s, historians have still had
difficulties defining the term. The National Council on Public History s definition of the term
stirred the debate even more. According to the National Council on Public History, public history
describes the many and diverse ways in which history is put to work in the world (NCPH 2016).
This definition helps the public understand that public history focuses around real world issues in
an applicable way. Public history is performed outside of the traditional research based college
campuses, whether it be in a museum, archive, National Park Service, and more. Public history

Maze Runner Dystopian Society Quotes
The trend in dystopian societies is very intriguing and so vivid. Dystopian societies dictate many
characteristics as leaders and followers usually one coming out from the shade to lead their small
groups to rebel against order. Through, James Dashner literature the maze runner series he greatly
displays challenges of the protagonist in a fallen society. He also takes his text to the next level by
being able to display hopelessness in a series of challenges, with struggles with fear in courage as
the protagonist in the book go through their trenches, long and dangerous journey. Basically the
control the dystopian society creates. Since their beginning they all went through the same thing.

books their quote on quote just society it rebelled and contradicted against by the protagonist or
simply the characters that are tired of it in the books, for example in book one the kids or teens
are talking to one another and one exclaims think about it our memories are wiped, we live
inside a place that seems to have no way out. Surrounded by blood thirsty monster guards doesn t
that sound like a prison to you? James Dashner (64) Well does it? Theses teens basically had
their whole life taken from them, then the wicked just throws them in a maze filled with
monsters like a lab rats. The people/protagonist in the book had what everyone is obligated to in
their life their freedom and rights stripped away as if this corrupt society couldn t get worse,
overall the maze runner displays the perfect dystopian society. In an online source an author by the
name of Thomas Robinson spoke on the society in the maze runner and he exclaimed a dystopia
society can be described as one where conditions are incredibly bad and unpleasant for the
inhabitants whether due to an oppressive government degrading environmental conditions etc.
Knight, Melissa. The Maze Runner. Thomas goes on to speak on how life is already unpleasant
while where they live is most likely destroyed ruins very dirty and just filled with junk. Having
to live under the lies of their leaders. To wrap up, Dystopian societies lead to many hardships
that is faced which leads to the next topic on a dystopian society. One of the most intriguing
characteristics of James Dashner s dystopian society is how he brings all of his many different
characters to life in their very own unique way. From Thomas to newt to alby to gally they all act
and develop differently throughout the book series. In book one Gally makes himself known to
Thomas as the big boss, and basically disrespects him.

Endgame By Samuel Beckett Essay
The mood and attitude of Samuel Beckett s 1957 play, Endgame, are reflective of the year of its
conception. The history that reflects directly on the play itself is worth sole attention. In that year,
the world was a mixed rush of Cold War fear, existential reason, and race to accomplishment
(Garraty 307). Countries either held a highlighted concern with present wartime/possibility of war,
or involvement with the then sprouting movement of Existentialism. The then absurdist theater
reflected the values and concerns of the modern society (Petty). The accomplishments of man, such
as the Soviet launching of both Sputnik satellites, sparked international competition. 1957 was not a

As a follow up achievement, in November Sputnik II was launched, carrying a dog named Laika to

the macabre situations of the characters in the play, was that Laika did not survive the
accomplishment of space travel (Cold War). Soviet technological know how introduced new
international competition in space exploration and missile capability. The Soviet Premier, Nikita
Khruschev, had emerged from the post Stalin interregnum as the new leader, and was eager to

were rolling off the assembly line like sausages , a lie that allowed US President Eisenhower s
opponents to perceive a missile gap (Garraty 329 332). Kruschev tried to gain control over the gap

United States, and Europe which hurt his own political support in the Soviet Union (Stiefel 160).

The European Union (EU) vs the North American Free Trade Agreement
Introduction
The European Union (EU) is the organization which integrates the countries listed below, both
politically and economically. It is a customs union, which is an agreement amongst a group of
countries to eliminate trade barriers between them on the movement of goods, services, labor and
capital, and also to establish a common external tariff on goods and services coming into the union.
The EU evolved from the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), which was formed in
1951 as a response to the First and Second World Wars to try to ensure future peace in Europe. This
became the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1965, which in turn became the European ...

Indeed, the ideological foundations that gave birth to the EU were based on ensuring development
and maintaining international stability, i.e., the containment of communist expansion in post World
War II Europe (Hunt 1989). The Maastricht Treaty which gave birth to the EU in 1992 included
considerations for joint policies in regard to military defense and citizenship.
Trading blocs could strongly affect a company s investment decision. This particular trading bloc
development prompted Ford to realise it could consider Europe to be one common market rather
than a collection of individual markets. In 1967, Ford changed its management structure to include
its European operations under one umbrella organisation known as Ford Europe Incorporated. Its
two large U.K. and German manufacturing centres remained an important dimension of the new
strategy, but they were no longer considered separate, independently operating companies. Despite
nationalistic tendencies on the part of the host country management, Ford decided that, from the
companies perspective, it was best to eliminate national boundaries, and a German director said,
The pooling of the two companies cut the engineering bill in half for each company, provided
economies of scale, with double the volume in

Analysis Of Sci Fi Tv Pilot
This proposed sci fi TV pilot has a compelling and curious premise. The idea of future characters
traveling back to the present and meeting their doppelgangers is intriguing. It s a great hook. The
pilot features interesting characters that the audience easily comes to care about. There s a solid,
female protagonist, Layna that leads the ensemble cast, along with FutureBen. Both make for
intriguing characters.
The pilot is divided into a teaser, several acts, and a tag. The pace works well and the plot remains
on task and focused. The scenes feel essential. The opening sets the tone when Future Ben, a back
traveler, falls from thin air. It s a great way to open the pilot. It immediately captures everyone s
attention.
The only concern about the opening is the idea of the marriage proposal. This almost gives the
opening a different tone (comedy). It s a creative choice. Just showing people in the restaurant
eating, while the waiters work, and then showing Ben fall from thin air would work just as well.
As the pilot progresses, the mystery intensifies. There s a solid A story regarding the travelers and
there are several good subplots that support the main storyline. The murder story creates good
mystery. The story with Margaret is emotionally engaging with a powerful twist regarding her
mother.
While the concept is engaging, there s room to build upon these strengths. The main concern about
the pilot s presentation is that the main goal for the series is too

Langston Hughes Relationship In Relationships
Relationships, Love, Support, or Dependency?
The relationship between women and men might be complicated for some while sometimes even a
really loving relationship cannot survive if people chose their personal longing as a priority.
Women and men fight in relationships; fight for more independence, fight to prove their worthiness
and keep forgetting that love is not a fight but a mutual support. Both men and women have
strengths and skills that are important for a relationship and growth. We need to ensure that both
partners play an important role in a relationship so that it can benefit both parties and the
relationship. James Mercer Langston Hughes also was known as Langston Hughes, is an American
writer who was an important figure in the Harlem Renaissance and made the African American
experience the subject of his writings, which ranged from poetry and plays to novels and
newspaper columns. That same year, he received the Witter Bynner Undergraduate Poetry
Award, and he published The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain in The Nation, a manifesto
in which he called for a confident, uniquely black literature: We younger Negro artists who create
now intend to express our individual dark skinned selves without fear or shame. By the time
Hughes received his degree in 1929, he had helped launch the influential magazine Fire!!, in 1926,
and he had also published a second collection of poetry, Fine Clothes to the Jew, which was
criticized by some for its title and for its

CRISPR stands for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeat, referring to the repeating DNA sequences found in the genomes of microorganisms. Through these changes, the biology of the cell is altered and possibly affects the health of an organism. • 6. Arm Wrestling With My Father Rhetorical Analysis The relationship between a father and their child is tremendously salient, and will influence the life of both the parent and the adolescent in many ways. Often, it can be difficult for someone to share their personal relationships that they had with their father, as it can be a very delicate subject. Despite this, renowned authors Brad Manning and Sandra Cisneros are two people who chose to write about their unique experiences and childhoods that they shared with their fathers. Both Brad and Sandra felt their childhood relationships with their fathers were unorthodox. This was explicitly outlined in Brad s freshman composition paper titled Arm Wrestling With My Father and Sandra s magazine article titled Only Daughter. Through varying rhetorical strategies, the authors purpose and audience is clearly portrayed in both selections. One of the most important components to any piece of writingis the intended audience. In Arm Wrestling With My Father, Manning s intended audience is anyone who may have had an abnormal or physical relationship with their father. He wanted his paper to be read by individuals that grew up with a lack of emotional love and an abundance of physical contact with their fathers. Although there was love between Manning and his father, it was clear that neither party wanted to acknowledge it. He wrote this in his freshman composition course at Harvard, knowing that although it was going to his professors, it was meant for anyone who may have experienced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Return Of Martin Guerre Analysis Natalie Zemon Davis The Return of Martin Guerre tells the true story of a peasant named Martin Guerre, who was at the center of a famous case of imposture in France in the sixteenth century. Davis takes the facts of this famous case from two primary sources including a book written by one of the trial judges of the case in Toulouse, Jean de Coras, called Arreste Memorable and one by a lawyer, Guillaume La Sueur, called Admiranda Historia. Davis uses other secondary sources to add details about peasant life including information about marriage, family, economics, religion, village social structure, as well as the political structure of the time. Davis moves beyond the facts and tries to interpret and understand the motivations of the characters in the story. For example, she assumes that Bertrande silently agreed to the fraud of Arnaud du Tilh because she wanted a husband and could not remarry after her husband abandoned her. This seems more believable to me than Bertrande just being stupid or naive and not knowing the difference between her husband and a stranger. In the preface of the book she admits she was generating not proofs, but historical possibilities (Davis, viii). I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a hub for tourist activities such as golfing which use copious amounts of water just to stay operational, the Valley must address Californias growing drought. One would think that California should be the last state experiencing a water shortage because it is bordered by the largest body of water in the world, the Pacific Ocean, however this is not the case at all. • 10. J Alfred Prufrock Tone The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Paper Assignment Close Reading In T.S. Eliot s 1915 modernist poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock , the overall mood and tone in the poem reflect the speaker s opinions of the time it was written in. An interesting way to look at this poem is to assume that the author used the character of Alfred Prufrock to explore his own attempt of trying to make sense of the rapidly changing, confusing, and gloomy world in which he lived. So, we can safely assume that trying to make sense of the outside world is a recurring motif in this poem. This can be seen by looking at both the poem as a whole, as well as the quote chosen for analysis. By choosing to use nature imagery, such as Combing the white hair of the waves blown back , the author depicts the speaker s need to retreat to nature in order to seek a peaceful spot to reflect on his choices and try to ... When the speaker says: And indeed there will be time / To wonder, Do I dare? and, Do I dare? / , we get a sense that the mysterious object of romantic interest he refers to does not actually know how the speaker feels about them. We also get a sense that the speaker is anxious that if he, in fact, expresses his feelings, he might be rejected. The following verses are linked to the speaker s fears of rejection I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. / I do not think they re singing at me. . • 12. The Adventures Of The Speckled Band By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle The Adventures of the Speckled Band , by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is a mystery story in which a detective, Sherlock Holmes, investigated the strange happenings that had occurred in Stoke Moran Manor during 1883, early April in England. It all began with a woman named Helen Stoner, who visited Sherlock and his assistant Dr. Watson. They listened intently as Helen explained how her sister Julia died years ago on the eve of her wedding. Helen was frightened for her life, with her own impending wedding. The mood was anxious while the tone was serious, as Helen s story became darker. When her sister died, the only clues she left behind before her sudden death were that she saw a speckled band and heard constant whistles in the night, which Helen heard as well. The evidence had momentarily led Sherlock to believe that gypsies had murdered her. Helen s stepfather, Dr. Roylott seemed to be an awfully suspicious character, especially considering his hot temper, or his background of committing crimes, including killings; furthermore, there was proof that Dr. Roylott had handled Helen viciously, leaving marks on her wrist. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson concluded that the matter was indeed serious; therefore they decided to take action that day by analyzing more clues at the Manor itself. Nobody was aware of the trouble that lurked outside the front door. Sherlock and Dr. Watson investigated the wills that Ms. Stoner s mother left behind; all of a sudden there was a knock at the ... • 13. Essay about The Impact Of Religious Settlers In Religious... The places where we live today have not always been here. The way we live has not always been the same. In fact, very few places that existed back in the colonial times exist today. If they still exist, it is because of the success gained over the years gone by after the settlers came to the New World. Settlers came to the New World in search of many things. They came in search of gold, they came for new lives, and they came for religious freedom. In England, during this time period, people were being judged, separated and persecuted on the basis of their religious beliefs. There were two groups of people that were unhappy with the Church. These groups came to be known as the Puritans and the Separatists. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Puritans are known for founding the Massachusetts Bay Colony. These people of the journey also set out for their self government to be a commonwealth, which is a community founded on law and united by an agreement that the law would serve the common good of the people. Dissenters were often persecuted for their beliefs, and just a few up and went and actually made a difference. They are still recognized today. In the colony of Rhode Island, there was one main dissenter who was very well known. He was the assistant pastor in Salem in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He had two main thoughts that got him into trouble with his community. One was the fact that he questioned the legality of the colony s charter, since the Indians had not been paid for the taking of their land. Another point was the fact that he believed that the civil government of the colony had no right to punish religious dissenters. He felt that people s personal views of the religion should not be punished because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. • 14. Applying An Analytical Model Of A Plane Wall Abstract To conduct a proper analysis of the 1 D transient conduction in a plane wall we must take the necessary mathematical procedures to obtain an analytical model that accurately represents the heat transfer that occurs. The equation must accurately model a plane wall that has a thickness L, is well insulated on one side, but is still vulnerable to convection on the other side. In order to complete the model, one must scale the problem in terms of both a length scale and a time scale to transform the variables to a dimensionless form that allows for a set of solutions that can be narrowed down to the simple parameter, Bi=hL/k. Introduction Mathematical Model This analysis looks into the phenomena of 1 D transient conduction in a plane wall of thickness L that is insulated on one side and subject to convection on the other. The conduction is governed by the differential heat equation: u_t=в€ ќu_xx (1) Here, u signifies the temperature of the entire body and в€ ќ signifies the thermal diffusivity. Furthermore, the differential heat equation above must respect the following boundary conditions: u_x |_(x=0)=0 ku_x |_(x=L)=h(u| T_в€ ћ) u|_(t=0)=T_i In the above boundary conditions, k represents a material property commonly referred to as thermal conductivity, whereas T_i represents the initial temperature throughout the wall. In this instance the flow conditions are such that they sustain constant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Businesses use scarce resources that would otherwise be available for other purposes, pay income and other taxes, provide employment opportunities, and are responsible for much of the material well being of our society. Thus, all of society is indirectly involved in the firm s operation. Firms exist because they are useful in the process of allocating resources producing and distributing goods and services. Perhaps the most obvious of these is the aging of the population. Health care demands will continue to soar. In recognition of this fact, investors have bid up the shares of companies offering prescription drugs, health care, and health care cost containment (e.g., home health agencies). Perhaps less obvious is that an aging and increasingly wealthy population will save growing amounts for their children s education and retirement. This bodes well for mutual fund operators, insurance companies, and other firms that offer distinctive financial services. Threat to Liberty in Equality Based Societies While traveling across the United States, Alexis de Tocqueville recorded how democracy operates and the roles of its participants in, Democracy in America. Tocqueville demonstrates his admiration of the American democratic system and Americans dedication to freedom, equality, and supporting one another. Despite these praises, there is also a looming danger against liberty in not only America, but in all societies based on equality. The most imminent threat to liberty in these societies is despotism as it prevents individuals from exercising their natural freedoms and rights. Tocqueville proposes resolutions to this threat, such as, governmentdecentralization and civil associations. Despotism flourishes in equal societies due to individuals isolating themselves and forming a centralized governing institution. As stated by Tocqueville, Equality places men beside one another without a common bond to hold them. Equality disposes them not to think of those like themselves... (485). This cataclysmic event that ended the great civilization of Athens has inspired countless authors to write about it. Starting at the beginning of 431 BCE, historian Thucydides wrote his take on it. In his work, The History of the Peloponnesian War, Thucydidesdiscussed the social and political consequences of the plague; a personal account on the experiences he lived through. Anywhere during 99 55 BCE, poet Lucretius had his work, On the Nature of the Universe, end with an account of the Athenian plague. Hofstede divided this dimension in low which are societies with characteristics as inequality at the minimum level, everyone enjoy the same benefits, subordinates opinion is taken into account, managers should be democrat and high that includes societies that are autocrats superiors, centralized structure, dependent subordinates, hierarchy reflects difference, superiors have benefits. The second dimension is uncertainty avoidance, and it shows how people react when they feel threatened, societies that do not take risks or don t try new situations. This dimension is divided in low and the main characteristics are rules are not allowed, common sense, hard work is not a virtue, not structured activities. In the other side there re societies with the high uncertainty avoidance characterized for don t allow changes, established rules, just in necessary cases, experts have the better knowledge. • 38. Educational Law And The Legal Service On the face of it, clinical legal education is beneficial to both the student cohort and the local community as it provides students with the opportunity to gain practical experience while delivering a service to the public. It is defined by Kerrigan as learning through participation in real or realistic legal interactions, coupled with reflections on this experience . Through this, a focus is placed on facilitating learning through a practice based approach grounded on client interaction. This generates a natural tension between fulfilling the educational aims of a clinic and the legal service needs of clients. This paper will examine such tensions, practically and theoretically, in respect to pedagogical instruction and lack of supervisory resources while providing personal reflections. It will conclude that there is to an exaggerated extent an imbalance between the educational aims of law clinics and the legal service needs of clients; however, this is not to the detriment of the client as it does not affect the quality of legal aidgiven by students. Exploiting Vulnerable People for Pedagogical Benefits Educational law clinics raise the ethical dilemma of exploiting vulnerable people in society for pedagogical benefits. As such, if a supervisor believes that a case provides an inadequate educational benefit, it may be turned away; or in circumstances whereby a case has been opened, closed. This wealth Gatsby desperately wants leads him to his own demise, losing any other ambitions he had, only focusing on his desire for Daisy.
