Advantages Of Multilevel Inverter
CHAPTER 3
MULTILEVEL INVERTER TOPOLOGIES AND CONTROL SCHEME
3.1. Multilevel Inverter
Multilevel inverters have ability to generate low switching frequency high quality output
waveforms with several high voltages and higher power applications and the general structure of
multilevel converter is synthesizes a sinusoidal voltage from several level of voltages. The
multilevel inverter has overcome the limitations of conventional two level voltage converters. The
advantages of multilevel inverter are higher power quality, lower switching losses, low
electromagnetic interference and higher voltage capability.
The voltage source inverter gives an output voltage or a current with levels either 0 or В±V_dc.
They are known as two level inverter. To... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, input node voltages and currents can be referred to the input terminal voltages of the
inverter with reference to ground point and the corresponding currents from each node of the
capacitors to the inverter respectively. As an example, input node (dc) currents by I_1,I_2 etc.,
and input node (dc) voltages are designed by V_1,V_2, etc as shown in Figure 1a. V_a,V_b and
V_c are the root mean square (rms) values of line load voltages; I_a,I_b and I_c are the rms values
of the line load currents. Figure 3.1 a shows the schematic of a pole in a multilevel inverter
where V_a indicates an output phase voltage that can predicted at any voltage level depending on
the selection of node (dc) voltage V_1,V_2 etc. By connecting switch to one node at a time, one
can easily obtain the desired output. Figure 3.2 shows the typical output voltage of a five level
inverter. The structure of multilevel inverter must (1) have less switching devices as far as
possible, (2) have capability of withstanding at very high input voltage for high power applications,
and (3) have lower switching frequency for each switching

Reviewing The Constitutionality Of The Voting Rights Act
Summarizing and Analyzing Justice In 2013 a court case Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder that
challenged the constitutionality of the Voting Rights Act, the Supreme Court in a 5 4 decision
ruled that Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which was an act that .....was
unconstitutional because it was based off of old data and no longer applied to those certain nine
states which were Alabama, Texas, Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi,
Louisiana and Virginia. (Excerpt from Shelby County, Ala. V. Holder) The Supreme Court s
decision in Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder was unjust because it abolished Section 4 of the
Voting Rights Act which protected minorities from voting discrimination in the South and caused
a step back on the path to full equality because those nine states will go back to their ways where
they discriminated and hindered African American and minorities from voting because they no
longer have the authority of the Voting Rights Act over their heads. The Supreme Court s
decision in Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder was unjust because it abolished Section 4 of the
Voting Rights Act, which protected minorities from voting discrimination at a time, during the
1950s where racial tensions stood between whites and African Americans. Continued relevance

Hogs Narrative
A warm, translucent jelly was spread across my abdomen. A screen displayed my internal
organs, as the technician operating a handheld machine, glided it across my stomach. An
ultrasound, something that was unknown and strange to six year old me. My mom explained it
as a procedure most pregnant women receive. Once it was completed, the person operating the
bizarre machine wiped away the translucent substance and told us we could go. I was dropped
off at McFall Elementary where I walked back to Mrs.Griffith s classroom. Due to the fact that it
was May, the class was decorating styrofoam cups to later put flowers in for our moms as Mother
s Day gifts. I sat down and got to work. Not even ten minutes later, my mom walked in through the

Waiting for procedures, waiting for results, we waited and waited, and waited some more. Time
seemed to stretch on forever. Nevertheless, it was only two weeks. I lost a lot of weight during
this time period, due to the fact that many scans that I had to have need to be done on an empty
stomach. After the scans, I would soon have my surgery. My surgery kept getting pushed back,
causing me to have to continue to wait. Much of my time was spent with my eyes on the large
computer screen whilst I played Webkinz, or watching the neverending re runs of the Bee Movie on
the movie channel that was provided. Finally, I was sent into surgery.
I have no recollection of the moments leading up to surgery, it was a rushed blur of exchanges
of words and preparation. However, after the nephrectomy, I woke up to a room packed and
overflowing with my family members and a Mount Everest sized pile of stuffed animals, my
favorite toy in the world at the time. I wasn t in pain immediately because they were still

Mount St Helens Research Paper
Mt St Helens (or the Fuji san of America) is known for the May 18th, 1980 eruption which
destroyed the whole north side of the volcano in just a few minutes within a 6 mile radius. Mount
St Helens is named by George Vancouver after a British Diplomat nicknamed Baron St Helens. Mt
St Helens is located in Yakima, Washington
State, United States, North America on the North
American tectonic plate. (Which is a continental plate) Yakima, Washington is almost right in the
middle of the state, but Washington borders British Columbia and Alberta, Canada and Idaho and
Oregon, United States, and of course, the Pacific Ocean. MSH is at the 46.2N 122.2W, which is on
the North American plate, and is formed by the converging the Juan de Fuca plate and the North
American plate. The more dense Juan de Fuca plate subducts into the mantle. Otherwise,... Show

The total estimated repair costs of the one eruption was ≈1.1 billion dollars. 1.1 billion dollars
is a lot of money. In fact, the damages cost more than what Trump used for his campaign. Before
MSH erupted, the volcano was an almost perfect cone, until it erupted and the whole North side
exploded, lost 1,300 feet of elevation. 4 billion board feet of lumber was destroyed. The
mudslides were no better, mud came flowing from the volcano at 50mph to 80mph and
destroyed everything in its path. The May 18th, 1980 eruption was quite interesting. The
eruption killed a total of 57 people. Everyone that was killed was between the ages of 9 and 83.
Most of the people that died inhaled ash, and the ash got into their lungs, which is probably not
good. There was a lot of ash that came out of MSH that day. Central and Eastern Washington was
covered in 3 to 5 inches of gritty fine ash. Not including the estimated 540 million tons of ash that
came out of MSH in the form of a mushroom cloud that reached 12+ miles (≈14 km) into the
air. The ash also circled the Earth for 15 days after the

Ap Psychology Chapter 3 Summary
Serena Rodriguez PSY 215 03 01/30/2018 Chapter 3: Clinical Assessment, Diagnosis, and
Treatment 1.What is the purpose of psychological assessment? The purpose of psychological
assessment is to figure out whether an individual exhibits abnormal behavior, what symptoms they
have, why they are demonstrating that behavior, and it there is a way to assist the individual.
There are several psychological or clinical tools that psychologists use to determine someone s
abnormal behavior. These tests include observations, tests, and clinical interviews. For a
psychological assessment, the tool used must be standardized, reliable, and valid. This means that
when a particular assessment is administered there must be certain procedures followed as well as
set ways to interpret results. When referring to the assessment s reliability, clinicians mean... Show

Personality tests are actually considered more valid, reliable, and standardized than projective tests
because they are primarily computerized or answered with paper and pencil. The ten scales of
MMPI are social introversion, hypomania, schizophrenia, psychasthenia, paranoia, masculinity
femininity, psychopathic deviate, hysteria, depression, and hypochondriasis. Social introversion
measures traits such as shyness and sensory overload. Hypomania measures overactivity and
emotional excitement. Schizophrenia measures deviant behaviors and uncommon thoughts.
Psychasthenia measures compulsions and phobias. Paranoia measures heightened suspiciousness.
Masculinity femininity measures the difference between male and female responses. Psychopathic
deviate measures lack of emotion and disregard for social norms. Hysteria measures the avoidance
of conflicts through mental signs. Depression measures hopelessness and a negative outlook.
Hypochondriasis high level of concern regarding possible medical

My Experience In My Middle School
Middle school changes lives, it s as simple as that. It changes everything that you know about
yourself and your abilities, and turns it upside down. When you walk through the doors on your
first day of school, you are confident and ready for everything to come, but by the last day of
eighth grade, you are exhausted, almost as if the school itself sucked the life right out of you. And
yet, you have new friends, amazing teachers, and new interests that you had never even given a
second thought before middle school. I myself have had many experiences in the middle school,
good and bad. On one faithful day in fifth grade, I became acquainted with my close friend, Azzia
Berestecki. At the time, we hated each other with the passion of a bull charging at a rodeo
clown painted red. She was the popular one, always surrounded by friends, and lovingly
accepting the rule of teacher s pet. I was the quiet girl who had a small circle of friends, and I
was considered weird and annoying by Azzia and her friends. We went on like this for a while,
hating each other for reasons none other than biases. Then, as if by fate, we both joined the
robolab team at the beginning of seventh grade. We regarded each other at a bare minimum for a
majority of the year, but then the unimaginable happened. My mother was rushed to the
emergency room and was taken in for brain surgery. She would not have been able to drive me, or
herself, to Pittsburgh and back for robolab s final competition of the

Plato, the philosopher who lived in 423 B.C., was criticized by his people the Romans. The Romans

no Roman should take his advice. Going to the twentieth century for a more modern example of
this, Stephen Hawking was thought in the same light for his anti christian views. Going to painters,

Adult media is given much more freeness but judgement is still apparent. Kevin Smith, a
famous comedian, film producer and comic book writer, is typically judged on his morality
because of his excessive cursing and his crude portrayal and scenes of indecency seen
throughout his films. A person that I am close with even judged a ВЁThe FlashВЁ episode he

The Death of Superman Lives, and Clerks, where he curses at nauseum and is really being a very

Increasing Frequency And Normality Of Piracy
Outcome
Introduction
This research project explores the increasing frequency and normality of piracy as a crime in
addition to its strong relationship with Australia. In particular, the purpose of this research project
is to explore How the rate of piracy in Australia can be reduced in addition to analysing the
fundamental factors behind the increase in the frequency of piracy, furthermore investigating
methods to reduce such criminal acts, including legal consequences.
Definition of Digital Piracy
Digital piracy or copyright infringement is essentially defined as the unauthorised sharing or use
of a product that has been copyrighted, according to the Australian Parliament House (2006).
However, the way in which the public infringe has changed over the decades. Initially, recording
music being played on the radio onto a cassette player was the inaugural generation of piracy
within our modern society. In the 1980s, recording Television (TV) onto Vertical Helical Scan
(VHS) recorders became prevalent (C Span (Created by Cable), 1986). Soon after, the copying
or ripping of Digital Versatile Discs (DVDs) and Compact Discs (CDs) soared (The Golden Age
of Piracy, 2014). However, none of these methods compare in financial losses to the present
generation of piracy the digital age (IP (Intellectual Property) Awareness Foundation, 2015). The
vast lawless regions of the internet provide the perfect haven for digital piracy. Whether content is

Examples Of Nonviolence In Gandhi
The movie Gandhi starts in 1893, where Gandhi was riding in a first class train carriage but was
told to transfer into the third class carriage, even though he was holding a first class ticket. Gandhi
refused to move to a different carriage, so a policeman arrived and literally threw him out of the
train. This was the defining moment of Gandhi that changed his life forever: he would dedicate his
life to fight for equality and independence for his people the Indians, nonviolently. Gandhi called his
overall nonviolenceactions, Satyagraha. The best example of Gandhi s nonviolence is the salt
march of 1930. The salt tax charged for something they need to live. Gandhi led the protest of 240

Eastern Air Lines Lockheed L 1011 Crashed At 2342 Eastern...
An Eastern Air Lines Lockheed L 1011 crashed at 2342 Eastern Standard Time, December 29,
1972, approximately 18 miles west northwest of Miami International Airport, Miami, Florida.
The air craft was destroyed. There were 163 passengers and a crew of 13 aboard the aircraft; 94
passengers and 5 crewmembers died. All other occupants received injuries, which ranged in
severity from minor to critical. It was a normal flight until the approach to Miami International
and the landing gear handle was placed in the down position during the preparation for landing.
The green light, which would have indicated to the flight crew that the nose landing gear was
fully extended and locked, failed to illuminate. The captain recycled the landing gear a few
times, but the green light still failed to light. The crew called for clearance and climbed to 2,000
feet mean sea level and followed a clearance to proceed west from the airport at that altitude.
During this time, the crew became focused on correcting the malfunction and to determine
whether or not the nose landing gear was extended and locked. At 2335:09, EAL 401 contacted
MIA approach control and reported, All right, ah, approach control, Eastern four zero one, we re
right over the airport here and climbing to two thousand feet, in fact, we ve just reached two
thousand feet and we ve got to get a green light on our nose gear. (NTSB, 1974) The second

The Benefits of a Liberal Arts Education
The strength of a liberal arts education is the strong, varied foundation it provides over a wide
spectrum of subjects. A liberal arts education is aimed at teaching you how to think. It helps you
to develop strength of mind, and an ordered intellect. This broad based education allows students
to create new theories, discoveries, and connections between fields. With such expansive roots,
great innovators can build and expand from what others have learned, instead of wasting effort
on rediscovery of what is already known. With the knowledge of a subject s strengths and
capabilities, and weaknesses and restrictions, students can combine traits of different subjects to
formulate new and more complicated concepts. New colors can only come from mixing those
which already exist. The pigment of a new color depends on the shades and hues of the colors
used to create it. Such is true for education. The resulting ideas are a sterling product of the
compatibility of the subjects blended to create it. What vocational schools have in central focus,
they lose in direct focus. Enormous concentration in one area pigeon holes, severely limiting the
range of career opportunities. A liberal artseducation on the other hand, teaches one how to think,
and how to apply this to a variety of subjects. Both aspects have their strengths and their downfalls.
However, one can hardly say the liberal arts is useless and should be tossed aside in the modern
day. A better understanding of education comes

I Am Serving As An Instructor
Reading these initial chapters in our textbook comes at an interesting time for me, as I am
currently serving as an instructor for the first time! Speaking from personal experience, I agree
with the authors in that simple skills are a crucial first step in getting off on the right foot. I
believe it would be difficult to recover with students (as well as your own self esteem) starting out
ill prepared. I really wish that I could have taken this courseprior to serving as an instructor, or at
the very least attended some kind of training to prepare me. Of great importance, as Svinicki and
McKeachie point out, is having a firm grasp on university etiquette to avoid taboo subjects and
relate to students appropriately. Although common sense should prevail, training in this area may
help mitigate issues that may arise with a lack of understanding on the part of the instructor. I
appreciate the timeline that chapter two offers in relation to preparing to teach three months in
advance, and can see myself referring back to this in the future. This section highlights the
importance of avoiding procrastination in planning, and provides detailed instructions on how to
stay on task. I did find the discussion of course goals and objectives interesting because I had
assumed they would be set by the university or department. Regardless, the authors make clear the
importance of goals and objectives; however from my experience there doesn t seem to be much
emphasis placed on these in the

The Stereotypical Portrayal Of Women
To young college aged women: The stereotypical portrayal of women in media is a problem that
needs to be understood and solved. This problem is often overlooked because it is encompassing
a lot to deal with. Women are used as sexual objects in the media everywhere, and we need to
understand how to deal with the issue. A large source of media that is used are advertisements,
which are everywhere in our daily lives. These advertisements can make women feel degraded
and objectified. Young women see media of models portraying these beautiful standards that are
unrealistic and lead to eating disorders and negative implications. Girls grow up seeing media all
over and learning the stereotypical roles of women which are considered the norm. No father
wants to see his little girl grow up feeling like she has to conform to the roles of women. In the
article, Two Ways a Woman
can get Hurt, Jean Kilbourne states, sex in advertising is
pornographic because it dehumanizes and objectifies people, especially women... (420) Jean
Kilbourne compares advertisements to pornography which makes us realize it s a large problem
going on that needs to be solved. In the media women are also shown as typical house moms
who clean, cook and stay home. This is a stereotype of women that has been around for a long
time but is not true in all cases. There are some women who are stay at home mothers but there
are also many who are in the working force. As college aged women, we can feel the pressure

The Impact Of Black Friday On American Symbols, Values And...
INTRODUCTION
Background and Problem
September 11, 2001. I was busy finishing my Rapport de Stage in the Mackworth College
Library, Derby, England, when a lady came to spread the bad news. Four commercial jetliners
were hijacked and diverted from their paths to be used as guided missiles. Two of the jetliners
ended up by crashing into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, New York City, around 9:00
a.m. local time. Half an hour later, the third jetliner crashed into the Pentagon, whereas the forth
one, supposedly on its way to Washington D.C., crashed somewhere in Pennsylvania. However, the
implications of that Black Tuesday were far more complicated than the mere reported facts.
To President George W. Bush, the operations that were carried out against his country did not
merely represent acts of terror on American symbols, values and interests, but they represented acts
of war against the United States and to a large extent, the attacks were acts of war, indeed.
According to many critics, these attacks were unprecedented in American history in that they
presented a direct, potential threat to the American territory. The gravity of the event was manifest
not only in terms of the scale of the attacks, but also in terms of the direction in which the guns
were pointed. As Chomsky explains
[t]he last time the national territory of the United States was under attack, or for that matter even
threatened, was when the British burned

In modern literary interpretation, the correspondence of the authors intention with the meaning of
the work, is considered paramount to discerning the true literary meaning of a work . E.D. Hirsch a
renowned literary critic argues that to correctly interpret a text, the interpret must consider the
author and the text s inner and out horizon . To discover the inner horizon, the interpreter must look
at the culture and background of the work and author so they can understand the logic, belief
systems, and historical context that bound the work. The addition of the outer horizon allows the
reader to consider the author s intention in writing the piece. Hirsh establishes that a literary
interpretation can be considered the most probable, if the reader considers the plausibility of the
interpretation based on the context established from the text s horizon, coherence .
Schroeder extensively describes the horizon of the text as well as the horizon of the author and his
intention and evaluates her own claim with data and support.
First, she describes the inner horizon of the text with a description of Nahua culture and
background. She states the codex adheres to annals genre , a traditional form of Nahua record

Brunelleschi s Influence To The Renaissance
In 1418, the town fathers of Florence realized they had to face a major problem. Il Duomo, the
cathedral that was built to best all others, was missing its roof. This cathedral had been constructed
in 1296 to commemorate Florence s new status as one of the most prosperous cities in Europe. The
cathedral would serve as a symbol of this new Florence. The town fathers had a vision of a
colossal dome that would rise to the heavens without support, pulling one s attention upwards. The
only obstacle was that the technology at the time could not accommodate a dome of the scale as
planned, with a diameter of 180 feet. A competition was announced with the prize of 200 florins,
which was more than a craftsman s two year wage at the time.

His biggest influence was most likely founding architecture as a separate and unique branch of art.
This established architects as more than just laborers and helped raise their status. Architects and
other artists in general received more credit for their work. Another similarly important influence
Brunelleschi had was popularizing the classical style by visiting and examining the ruins of Rome.
This helped repair the disintegrated reputation of Rome. This also established a new idea of beauty
that was achieved through harmony, symmetry and abiding by classical rules and styles. These
rules helped some artists to create individuality and to experience greater artistic freedom.
Brunelleschi s creation of new machinery was still impactful, but less so than the others. This
revolutionary technology ignited a new reliance on science and technology until the point where
math and the arts were inseparably intertwined. Brunelleschi s construction of the dome of Il
Duomo clearly shaped the Renaissance by raising the status of artists and architects, reviving the
classical style and creating a symbiosis of the arts and

Historical Significance Of Pearl Harbor Essay

Army, and was call the bombing of Pearl Harbor, which holds great historical significance in
World War II. Firstly, the bombing of Pearl Harbor was illustrated as the main reason as to why
America turned on their isolationistic view of World War II. Before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor,
America had an isolationistic approach to World War II. America believed that they had won the
war for England, France and Italy, but were not given back the loans that were used for
reparations. This resulted in the passing of the neutrality act by the US congress August 31, 1935.
The neutrality act was a ban of financial loans to countries engaging in war, arms embargo (no

from selling goods and only the American president can embargo... Show more content on

Humorous Wedding Speech Why Would Anyone Want to Marry this Man?
Ladies and gentlemen, if there s anybody here this afternoon who s feeling nervous, apprehensive
and queasy at the thought of what lies ahead, it s probably because you have just got married to
Charles Farrer.
Looking around this packed room, it s surprising just how far some people are prepared to travel
for a free lunch. It s very fortunate that Charles was not involved in developing the menu;
otherwise you would have been very disappointed to have come all this way for cheese sandwiches
washed down with lager.
Oh well then, I d better hurry up. After all, I m supposed to, in good taste, put the groom down. So,
minus the good taste I ll get on with it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, he starts thinking from the moment he gets up and doesn t stop until he opens his mouth.
He has a wonderful skill. Charles can offend anyone on any topic. People know this and steer clear
of him at parties. Often, as a sign of respect, they don t even invite him.
Another reason to marry Charles is that he s very caring especially about his appearance. It s easy
to see from today that Charles, impeccably dressed, has always been an image conscious sort of
guy. You know, he once admitted to me that his favorite forms of entertainment were TV,
Playstation and mirrors in reverse order. He also very caring when it comes to money. As he has
often told me: The safest way to double your money is to fold it over once and put it back in your
pocket . But marriage changes a man and his approach to spending is shifting. Just yesterday,
while mulling over a purchase, he blurted out, Well, if you ve got it why not spend it! I m not
extravagant enough! It s a lot of money, but hey, you only live once! I m going to buy this right
now! I don t care how much it costs! I was really impressed by this. And dramatically Charles
threw the packet of Jaffa cakes in the shopping trolley and marched off.
But more likely for Sherie the reason was love. I mean, when they first started seeing each other
Charles was a real romantic. He d take Sherie to all sorts of places... although mainly pubs and

realization that the demise of humanity is soon approaching. This horrifying possibility becomes

differences in their societies, both The Handmaid s Tale and Children of Men portray an infertility

luxuries such as cars, books, and the right to a Handmaid, a woman who is still fertile and who s

obvious hierarchy of the women within Gilead. The highest ranking women are the wives of the

I wanted to spend a little more on this to balance the budget. I think this is necessary to prepare
for our future and is very reasonable. I think most people would be happy with this because we
need a plan for future energy resources. I cut transportation and community and regional
development because I do not think they need as much money as they were getting. I don t
think people would be very happy with this and I do not think it would be a very realistic cut,
because we need a lot of money for these programs due to upkeep for our roads and community
and it is essential to Americans that we have reliable ways to get places. Education is important
to our future and making sure people can get jobs and is the base to our country s success,
which is why I increased their spending. I think this is realistic and most people would be happy
with this. We always want to have better schools and teachers so children can get better
educations. I decreased Non Medicare health spending, because they were spending a lot of
money that was not necessary. I do not believe that this is all that realistic, because we need

that people who need help can get it to support their families. I think this

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Assessment Research
(REQUIRED) 1a) Identify one strength in the assessment plan and explain why it is a strength in
relation to the learning goals of this unit.
One important strength is the sequence of testing along the unit. Throughout the diagnostic test,
teacher can determine the student s existing knowledge and design the lessons for the rest of the
week. The formative comprehensive assessment on day 6 will make the teacher able to check for
understanding, adjust the lesson, and provide immediate feedback to the students. Mid unit
formative assessment on day 11, will evaluate student s knowledge related to the lesson, identifying
strengths, weaknesses, and target areas that need to be reviewed. The summative assessment at the
end of the unit, will evaluate cumulative learning, skill acquisition, and academic achievement. The
results of each assessment, will make the teacher able to assist the students to accomplish the
learning goals of the unit determined by the state adapted standards

This marriage took place due to influences on the part of Catherine s father, King Ferdinand of
Spain. Ferdinand considered England to be a type of vassal state with Catherine as his ambassador.
As the new King, Henry VIII did not waste any time spending his inheritance on lavish living.
Gambling, fine clothes, and fine jewelry were just some of his vices. Shore states that it was
during these early years that Henry VIII confided in Cardinal Wolsey and Thomas More. Henry
VIII and Catherine were close. However, there friendship was supplanted by that of Wolsey barely a
year after Catherine became Queen. Wolsey was given authority within the realm, but the King did
not always agree with his decision which lead to tension and controversy in their relationship. This
is mentioned because it is the beginning of a pattern Henry VIII exhibited in his closest
relationships. As initially with Catherine, his relationships with both Anne Boleynand Thomas
Cromwell followed a similar pattern. Each was someone Henry VIII had relied upon, but who
later fell from favor in the mist of political and social influences at court.
As King, Henry VIII was prideful personally and professionally. In order to compete on an
international scale and to exert his military influence, Henry VIII engaged in conflict with France.
These campaigns were more likely intended to inflate his self image in relation to the kings of both
France and Spain. Shore

SINGLE SPECIES CONSERVATION LITERATURE REVIEW, GREAT WHITE SHARK.
The purpose of this literature review is to investigate how Geographical Information Science (GIS)
is or could be incorporated into conservation management of the Great white shark (Carcharodon
carcharias). The reason for selecting the Great white shark as a single species to investigate, is that
it is listed in the International Union for Conservation (IUCN) red list as vulnerable. They are
vulnerable due to years of being hunted by man for fins and teeth, and often as a trophy for sport
fishing, they are often caught as bycatch by commercial fisheries and can also become entangled
in gillnets that protect beaches in shark control programs as well as culling. Adding to the
importance to conserve this species the white sharks grow slowly, mature late, and the female
does not reproduce every year and produces relatively few number of offspring during her lifetime.
Vulnerability due to low numbers and low reproduction rate is only part of the problem the main
reason to protect this species as well as other sharks is that the Great White shark is an apex
predator. Apex predators maintain the balance of food webs. They keep many marine populations
in the proper proportion, avoiding that they becoming too populous and cause harm to ecosystems
(Newton et al., 2006; Frid et al., 2007). Top predators like the Great white sharks eat the weaker

Medical Futility
Nurses are faced with ethical dilemmas regarding medical futility often. Physicians, the care
providers, and often the patients family, contribute to the decision making process when medical
futility exists and strive at a correct and ethical decision. Medical futility is generally a term defined
as treatment or clinical interventions that are not likely to result in benefit to the patient or produce
the expected outcome. (Terra, Powell) Applying the concept of medical futility poses significant
ethical and moral predicaments. Central to any discussion about limiting or withholding medical
intervention is essential to clinical utility and the ethical tenets of the patients justice and autonomy.
Health care providers, including nurses, often find themselves in critical situations where the
choice of treatment seems to lie in the hands of the patient s family as the decision makers. In
many of these cases, individuals dictate care and insist on treatments that may or may not be
supported by the medical teams that are involved in that patients care. Medical futility can be
described as interventions that are unlikely to offer a reasonable expectation of recovery or... Show

Many patients and families in this situation have understood that all treatment options have been
exhausted, and the focus then shifts to a peaceful, respectable, and comfortable dying process for

preparing for end of life care decisions falls on them. According to evidence based guidelines for
initiating end of life care planning discussions should be driven by the philosophy of hope for the

The Human Side Of Enterprise
Douglas McGregor was an American professor and psychologist who is most famous for his
book, The Human Side of Enterprise, published in 1960. In this work, he conceives and examines
two theories of behaviors in the workplace. They are known as Theory X and Theory Y. These
distinct theories describe how individuals generally behave at work and how different types of
managers might govern their employees. They have been used over the years to help managers to
understand their employees needs, behavior and how to better manage their staff. These theories
can be analyzed and broken down into three of many sub topics: Motivation, LeadershipStyle and
Conflict Resolution. The two basic labels that McGregor created describe the assumptions that
managers might make about their employees views on motivation and behavior. According to
McGregor s (1960) Theory X, the average man is by nature indolent and is typically self centered
and lacks ambition (p. 2). In this situation, managers are forced to act in an authoritarian manner.
They must coerce their employees to do their jobs, because the assumption is that workers take
little to no initiative. Theory X demonstrates that workers view money and job security as their
primary motivator. Conversely, Theory Y states that people actually enjoy working and will
actively seek out greater responsibility. Managers in this scenario would encourage and emphasize
the empowerment of their employees and would provide a surplus of

Ender s Game by Orson Scott Card Essay
Undermined by dread of another extra terrestrial invasion, humanity turns to the youngsters to

directed by Gavin Hood is the motion picture based very loosely on that novel. So how true to
the book were these producers? Translating a 368 page military science fiction novel from 30 years

separations. It s focused around the buggers biotic capacity to impart over a kind of clairvoyant
hive brain join. The saying ansible is utilized as a part of the film (once), yet they never clarify the
engineering or connection it to the story. This would be fine with the exception of how it influences
the final reveal.
How did Ender know where to discover the bugger queen? Because of a rock formation that had
been purposefully shaped to resemble the fallen castle from a computer game only he had seen.
How did the buggers see Ender s machine diversion? Great inquiry. In the movie it s not clear,
however it s inferred they had some way or another connected into the computer system to which
the game existed.
The book s clarification is considerably more agreeable. At the point when Ender goes to Command
School, an ansible sends Ender s commands (obscure to him) to the actual International Fleet as
they battle the buggers. Since the ansible was retro engineered from bugger innovations, the
buggers can take advantage of Ender s correspondences, and take in more about him than anybody
could have anticipated including his memories of the game.

What Is A Representative Democracy
As stated in The Struggle for Democracy, the U.S. is a representative democracy, also known as a
republic (). In this system of government, unlike a direct democracy in which all citizens vote on
all public matters, elected representatives govern the people. The U.S. system consists of three
separate governing branches, executive, judicial, and legislative, which all hold checks and
balances on one another. These checks and balances were meant to ensure the U.S. would be as
democratic as possible and prohibit one branch from gaining too much power. Throughout America
s history, the system has predominantly been a success. In the world today, the United States is
looked upon as a bastion for democratic principles. The U.S. State Department itself ardently
embraces the lofty goals of promoting democracyaround the world, assisting those in foreign
lands who wish to establish democracies, and denouncing regimes that deny citizens their rightful
ability to conduct and participate in free, fair, and transparent elections (). Americans at large
also support democracy enthusiastically. A myriad of citizen ardently proclaim the U.S. s
democratic ideals and the freedoms they allow qualify the U.S. to be the greatest country in the
world. While parts of this is true the U.S. is indeed a global advocate of spreading democracy and
Americans enjoy many freedoms not privy to citizens living under repressive regimes such as

Influence Of John Locke s Second Treatise On Government
Political organization is the framework for a government s operation. It is generally highly varied
between different governments, but often takes one of several standard forms, which tend to be
categorized as tending toward democratic or an authoritarian. However, whatever its structure may
be, a government must have political legitimacy in order to function and maintain a monopoly over
its subjects and affairs. Governmentis perceived to be legitimate by those it rules when its political
organization operates unequivocally within certain parameters deemed appropriate by its subjects,
and when punishment and law is executed equitably. Given that the parameters for government

Contemporary scholars have built off John Locke s ideas on legitimacy to conclude several factors
that weigh into whether or not the people perceive government as legitimate, such as whether or
not the state s actions can be morally defended. In plain terms, the people must view having the
government as a preferable alternative to not having the government. There is no consent if the
people resent the government s existence or feel that the government s existence is unjustified.
Another important factor of legitimacy is the extent to which the people feel obligated to obey
government edict without coercive measures. If the people do not feel obligated to follow the state
s commands, the government then obviously lacks legitimacy. Any obligation a state s subjects feel
stems from the government s justifiability and moral defensibility. These two factors must be strong
enough to compel the subjects into following government order instead of following alternative
pursuits to accomplish individual goals. Legitimate government actually has this ability, while
illegitimate authority merely purports it. However, even legitimate governments have parameters
that limit what the state may ask of its subjects. These parameters are derived from the subjects,
based on what they feel is appropriate for the government to do and what they will allow the
government to do without

Persuasion In Advertising Essay
The Role of Persuasion in Advertising and Compulsive Buying Persuasion can be used as one of
the most influential ways to convince people to do anything. A key way to using persuasion is to
influence the audience; there is always a catch. The persuader intends to influence the persuadee
to their means to an end or goal. Companies use persuasion in many around the world. Persuasion
is worldwide, companies are not the only ones that use it. Children use persuasion daily to
convince their parents as well as students with their professors. As previously mentioned, the act of
persuading will always have an end goal. More importantly, there is a process to persuasion
especially in advertising. The process of persuasion will begin with identifying a goal. Second,
finding the right audience is important. Third, the persuader must have a plan to how they are
going to achieve the goal. Fourth, the message is vital. This is what the persuader will use to hook
the customer. The final part of this process is that persuader must be able to convey the message.

Savages of the Road Essay examples
The quote above by Benjamin Franklin illustrates that everyone has a different opinion when it
comes to manners. P. M. Forni defines manners in an interesting way in his article, What is
Civility . In this article, Forni states A manner is a way something is done, a mode of handling.
Thus manners came to refer to behavior in social interaction the way we handle the encounter
between Self and Other (Forni 543). Most people get taught manners from a very young age but
for some reason people do not apply these manners to the road. When I received my license at the

Why not be verbally abusive on the road? Who will ever know? Strangers have no reputations,

personally and we will probably never see each other again, so why not act a little crazy? There
are many actions drivers take that show a neglect for manners besides the one told in my story.
Some drivers pull out in front of you and act like they did nothing wrong. This drives me insane!
It takes a lot to slow down and not hit someone when they pull out in front of you. It is not your job
to watch traffic off to the side; they should be paying attention and be considerate enough to wait
until it is clear and then pull out onto the road. Drivers also forget their manners at night. I hate
when I am driving along and then suddenly I am blinded by high beams headed in the opposite
direction. This tells me that the driver is not paying attention to what they are doing behind the
wheel which causes great concern. It also disables me from being able to see the road in front of
me which means their negligence could cause me to hurt myself. Tom and Ray Magliozzi from

June, 4th 2015 Abstract
Subliminal messages are messages that are perceived in the unconscious mind that most of the
time we are not aware of. These messages are mainly designed to influence that way we think and
feel. They are used to get people to buy products from their company. Subliminal messages can be
perceived auditory or visually. Subliminal messages should not be legal and should be banned from
being used in advertisement for it can lead to negative results. There should be another way to
advertise that. Doesn t involve manipulating our minds into buying the products.
Subliminal messages are messages that are either auditory or visual which is presented below the
normal limits of perception. An example of a subliminal messages would be that a message might
be inaudible to the conscious mind but may be audible to the unconscious mind, in this case a
deeper part of your mind. Subliminal messages may also be in other cases an image that is

messages are basically hypnotism that many companies may use to encourage people to buy the
product they re selling.
According to the article The Influence of Subliminal Messages , it states that subliminal messages
can influence our attitudes and behavior. Also, under certain circumstances of course, subliminal

The Effects Of Music On Music Throughout History

Technology: The Effects on Music throughout History
Music and technology aid one another. In a way a person can capture music they love through
technology and then the electronic companies flourish due to the sale and popularity of these
electronic devices. If a person wants to listen to music they can turn on a stereo or TV, choose a
CD or DVD to play, or listen to a songs downloaded in ITunes. All of these devices are proof to
show how technology is used to record, play, and change the way music is heard. A look through
history will show how far society has come in music alone. The development of technology has
changed the way the music industry operates and the way society hears and purchases music today.
It started off with humming, then singing. People sang in church choirs, in the living room, or on
a stage. Music can be heard by vocals or by the melodic tune of instruments. People paid to go to
symphonies and listen to composers perform their masterpieces. Family gathered around the piano,
or at a church to listen to music on the holidays. Music was not portable, nor was it recordable.
According to the novel, Looking Backward in 1888, the philosophy was that technology was the
solution to the ills plaguing modern life and the means to achieve a perfect society (Katz, 51).
Meaning that life was boring and technology was the answer to bettering and changing society. In
1877, Thomas Edison invented the

Self Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird
Frida Kahlo was best known for her reflective self portraits that defined the tragedies she d
endured. Explaining her affection for the style, Kahlo said, I paint myself because I am so often
alone, because I am the subject I know best. Kahlo contracted Polio at the age of six which left
her with a deformed foot, she was also Bed bound while recovering from a grisly streetcar
accident. Kahlo under went over 30 operations throughout her life; and over the years she painted a
portrait of herself whenever she was troubled.
Her self portraits have been described as being surreal, but Frida answered such comments with,
They thought I was a Surrealist, but I wasn t. I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality. ...

Double Impact Essay
An Analysis of the Movie, Double Impact
The movie opens twenty five years ago in Hong Kong. The parents of two twin babies, Alex and
Chad, had borrowed money from Raymond Zhang and
Nigel Griffith, two lead smugglers. They needed the money in order to build a tunnel between
Hong Kong and the mainland. After the tunnel was built and the money collected, Nigel Griffith
and Raymond Zhang had a gang of hit men massacre Alex and Chad s family. Frank Avery, a
friend of the family, races into the scene and finds the parents already dead. The two babies are in
the back seat with a maid. She takes Alex and flees the scene. Frank sees Chad left behind and
takes him and runs.

Alex arrives and head butts Chad. When Chad revives from being knocked unconscious, Frank
convinces the two brothers to help avenge the deaths of their parents.
The setting for this movie is very appropriate. They are in Hong Kong where the laws are not up to
par with the American Style. This allows the corrupt trades of Zhang, Griffith, and Alex to go on
hardly disturbed by the Hong Kong police.
The dominant theme in Double Impact is vengeance and it is seen quite readily once the action
gets rolling. Alex and Chad are out to kill Zhang and Griffith for the massacre of their parents. As
the movie rolls on, Alex becomes suspicious of Chad because he thinks that he is playing around
with his girlfriend Danielle. We see Alex s thoughts of Chad with Danielle as he becomes drunker
and his mind imagines that they are having sex together.
These thoughts enrage Alex and he fights his own brother.
The whole movie was directed and acted very well considering Chad and
Alex are both played by the same person, Jean Claude Van Damme, which justifies the movie s
name, Double Impact. The main character Jean Claude
Van Damme plays more roles than just casting. He is also the fight choreographer and one of the
producers. His talent of kickboxing has come through in his first great achievement where he
played as Frank Dux in

Comparing Othello s Jealousy In The Film O
The modernised basketball film O translates William Shakespeare s tragedy script Othello into a
high school teen drama. The film gets its individuality and power from the fact that its plot, themes,
motivations and actions of its characters are a modern comparative to the seventeenth century play.
The director and writer of the 2001 filmO have produced a near identical productions, all while
adding a more modern twist to the context of a high school violence. Every wondered why
modernized versions of Shakespeare s plays are so successful? It s because the writers and
directors take the work of Shakespeare s Elizabethan era plays and adapt their meanings, plot and
values for a modern audience to appreciate. Jealousy, woman and power will... Show more content

Music Concert Report Sample
Concert Report #2 I went to the Mark Flood: Greatest Hits concert on May 5, 16. The
performance is presented in the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston. The genre of the concert
was Saxophone Quartet and I believed the music is from Contemporary Era. There was four
pieces, which composed by four different composers were performed. They started by the Walk
the Walk by Michael Daugherty, I liked the beginning piece because my mood for this piece was
happy and joyful. The beat was powerful and made myself into the song. The second piece was the
Jungle by Christian Lauba, the tone color were bright and mellow. I felt pretty excited about the

Saxophone Quartet No.2, which has five. There was five performers were performing. Dan Gelok,

Hotel Chain Of Hotels And Resorts
1Introduction
Marriott group of hotels and resorts is an International leader in hotel Industry owning more than
3700 properties making it one of the broadest range of brand portfolio holders in the world.
Marriott chain of hotels was founded by Mr. J. Williard Marriott in the year 1950 when he started
with two motels. The first motel was established as an airport motel near Washington and served
as a quality Inn while the second motel was set up near the Twin Bridges a few years later. The
second motel gave Marriott the much desired brand name and Marriott took off one of the most
successful hotel chains and never looked back.
2Context and Research Rationale
The research problem is based on the study of green or environmentally friendly strategies adopted
by one of the top hotels in UK Marriott hotel, Regents park London and whether such strategies
have an effect on some intangible variables of marketing such as guest behaviour and guest
satisfaction or loyalty.
The answer to why is this a research problem is because hotels usually have positive attitude
towards green strategies but they do not see it as a viable marketing strategy, which impacts their
core competency in the business. Most of the big organisations follow green strategy to play it safe
rather than using it as an effective guest retention strategy. There is a gap in the research done
towards identifying the relationship between adopting green strategy and its impact on business
growth factors such as

Hansberry Make The Turning Point Of Karl Lindner
Explore the ways in which Hansberry makes the first visit of Karl Lindner such an intense scene.
Hansberry s play captures how Chicago (and America in general) was around the 1950 s;
although Chicago claimed to be anti racist, Hansberry shows what life was like for black families
in that day and age. It also has elements from her own life in it, making it a more realistic story.
Hansberry used many techniques to create a build up of tension until Karl Lindner came out with
what he had to say, which was racially prejudiced and very discriminatory towards the family. This
was the turning point in the play where everything they worked for was starting to go wrong. A
way tension was built was by the way in which Lindner was treated in the beginning. ... Show more

Lindner is very nervous and seems to not know how to tackle the situation, therefore he tries to
avoid it for a great period of time and sends Beneatha through different states of emotion. At first
Beneatha is quick to understand what he is aiming to say but later on Lindner misleads her by
saying I am sure you people must be aware of some of the incidents which have happened in
various parts of the city, when coloured people moved into certain areas. By this he meant
violence directed toward the Black families that moved into white neighbourhoods this could
also be a masked threat towards the family. Afterwards, he tells them that he and his
neighbourhood not only deplore that kind of thing but they are trying to do something about it.
After he says this it seems as though he is going to say something more pleasant, he has also got
the family encouraging him to do so. This increases the tension because it is right before the
message is clear, you can see that by the way Lindner is talking, which is clearer and there is no
constant manipulation of his word order. He is also gaining confidence to finish up his speech. It
is also stated clearly in the stage directions (more encouraged by such affirmation). The family at
this point is expecting something positive from him, but after he says Our people out there feel
that people get along better, take more of a common interest in the life of the community, when
they share a common background. To put it simply, he and his neighbourhood are telling them that
they are unwanted just because they do not have a common background by this meaning skin
colour. Lindner also thinks that the family is willing to agree and he is willing to buy back the
house. This leaves the family in utter disbelief, you can see this when Ruth exclaims ain t this a
living gall! Meaning how does he

from taking a gander at how the group s perception impacted the results for the two groups of
young men in the Saints and the Roughnecks. Additionally we can find out about how the

Labeff, Robert E. Clark, Valerie J. Haines, and George M. Diekhoff comprehension of how con
artists can standardize degenerate conduct with balance methods. Understudies kill their
degenerate duping conduct by the possibility that depending on the circumstance their standards
and principles controlling conduct to act freak can be legitimized. They likewise utilize the five
methods of balance called disavowal of responsibility, judgment of condemners, appeal to higher
loyalties, foreswearing of harm, and refusal of casualty. These help concoct rationalization or
contend that there are special conditions that exist, which make them confer freak conduct. A
standout amongst the regularly balances utilized by miscreants was dissent of responsibility ,
which includes the wrongdoer to pronounce that they can t be considered responsible because of
conditions and outside powers made them must choose the option to submit the degenerate
demonstration. For example, I was working forty plus hours a week and we had a great deal to
peruse for that day. I just couldn t get everything in... I m not saying duping is alright, some of
the time you simply need to. (LaBeff 1990, p.306) For the balance, appeal to higher loyalties
includes giving up responsibility and good commitments for peer groups or expectations of others.
The dependability to people makes them help companions to cheat with a specific end goal to not
double cross their relationship. For example, I was mentoring this young lady yet she just couldn t
comprehend the material... I felt I needed to help her on the test. (LaBeff 1990, p.307) The balance,
judgment of condemners accuses the expert figure (i.e. professors) for their motivations to cheat
and censure their educating aptitudes. The purposes behind degenerate conduct of an individual is
not their blame but rather another person s blame totally. For example, The educators here are

The Importance of Ecosystem Management and Protection.
Recent growth in scientific knowledge has helped humanity comprehend the complex relationships
in ecosystems and the devastating effects of human interference. As a result we have become
increasingly aware of the need to protect and manage the ecosystems that we do have remaining for
their utility, genetic, intrinsic and heritage values and also for the need to allow natural change and
thus evolution to take place. Natural ecosystems have provided much that has been of benefit to
humanity and with careful protectionit can last for many more generations. Management strategies

As seen in numerous examples where wild varieties of species have been crossbred with
cultivated varieties to obtain disease resistant or high crop yielding new varieties, without the
genetic diversity available, none of it would be possible. In 1860 s the European vineyards were
completely destroyed by phylloxera but later grafting with an American species led to a variety
resistant to the disease. Also Indian rice was discovered to be resistant to two viruses and after
implementation, led to an improved yield on 30million hectares in Asia. A single gene from a
barley growing in Ethiopia protects the entire Californian barley crop worth $US 150million/yr
from the yellow dwarf disease.
It can be seen that there are linked crossovers between reasons for management and the
usefulness of ecosystems. Wild strains of species, many as of yet undiscovered, have desirable
properties, such as disease resistance and increased crop yield, which tend to be lost in
successive generations with selective breeding under artificial conditions. Natural ecosystems
should be maintained so as new genes can be added from the wild populations to keep crops
resistant to diseases which continue to develop new strains. The ecosystems also may yield new
species of plants and animals suitable for use in cultivation and grazing. Examples include red
deer, the loblolly pine and kiwi fruit that have recently been added to agriculture and forestry
economic lists. The merino sheep variety is

The Weight Reduction Of The Drive Shaft
Abstract Almost all automobiles (at least those which correspond to design with rear wheel drive
and front engine installation) have transmission shafts. The weight reduction of the drive shaft
can have a certain role in the general weight reduction of the vehicle and is a highly desirable
goal, if it can be achieved without increase in cost and decrease in quality and reliability. It is
possible to achieve design of composite drive shaft with less weight to increase the first natural
frequency of the shaft and to decrease the bending stresses using various stacking sequences. By
doing the same, maximize the torque transmission and torsional buckling capabilities are also
maximized.
Key Words: Propeller shaft, Drive shaft, optimization, Composite material, Composite drive shaft
design etc. INTRODUCTION
The advanced composite materials such as Graphite, Carbon, Kevlar and Glass with suitable resins
are widely used because of their high specific strength (strength / density) and high specific modulus
(modulus / density). Advanced composite materials seem ideally suited for long, power driver shaft
(propeller shaft) applications. Their elastic properties can be tailored to increase the torque they can
carry as well as the rotational speed at which they operate. The drive shafts are used in automotive,
aircraft and aerospace applications. The automotive industry is exploiting composite material
technology for structural components construction in order to obtain the reduction

Ask Your Mama Analysis
The Langston Hughes Project Ask Your Mama:12 Moods for Jazz filled Sursa Hall on Wednesday,
February 17, 2016. Around 7:30 p.m. the show started with three spoken word poets. These poets
set the tone for the night, which was story telling through poetry and song. Throughout the whole
twelve moods of jazz, a story was told. Throughout the concert, the crowd got to experience a
variety of feelings. A fast tempo usually resulted in a fun upbeat feel, while a slow tempo usually
left the audiencewith a more relaxed or even sad feel. The Ron McCurdy Quartet and the Ball State

We all enjoyed snapping along with McCurdy and the beat. The flute and violin created a
beautiful harmony. Mood 10: Bird in Orbit had a violent and explosive beat. The bass and drums
were more pronounced in this set. The tempo was up and this mood was very loud.
Mood 11: Jazztet Muted had a fast tempo that created a dynamic feel. The flute would call and the
drums would respond. The use of call and respond made the piece feel very well put together. This
mood mainly focused on a smooth piano solo and a flute solo. Mood 12: Show Fare, Please was the
last mood for the night. The rhythm section maintained a steady tempo. The audience, including
myself, enjoyed clapping along with the beat. Ron McCurdy plays the trumpet wonderfully along
with the orchestra in this energetic and happy tune. Yet another compelling trumpet solo to finish
off the concert wonderfully.
Ultimately, the performance of The Langston Hughes Project Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz
successfully told the story of struggling blacks in the 1960s. The Ron McCurdy Quartet, the
Spoken Word Poets, and the Ball State Symphony Orchestra made the show very enjoyable for the
crowd. The audience was told a story, but the jazz musicmade them feel it. I thoroughly enjoyed

  • 2. Advantages Of Multilevel Inverter CHAPTER 3 MULTILEVEL INVERTER TOPOLOGIES AND CONTROL SCHEME 3.1. Multilevel Inverter Multilevel inverters have ability to generate low switching frequency high quality output waveforms with several high voltages and higher power applications and the general structure of multilevel converter is synthesizes a sinusoidal voltage from several level of voltages. The multilevel inverter has overcome the limitations of conventional two level voltage converters. The advantages of multilevel inverter are higher power quality, lower switching losses, low electromagnetic interference and higher voltage capability. The voltage source inverter gives an output voltage or a current with levels either 0 or В±V_dc. They are known as two level inverter. To... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, input node voltages and currents can be referred to the input terminal voltages of the inverter with reference to ground point and the corresponding currents from each node of the capacitors to the inverter respectively. As an example, input node (dc) currents by I_1,I_2 etc., and input node (dc) voltages are designed by V_1,V_2, etc as shown in Figure 1a. V_a,V_b and V_c are the root mean square (rms) values of line load voltages; I_a,I_b and I_c are the rms values of the line load currents. Figure 3.1 a shows the schematic of a pole in a multilevel inverter where V_a indicates an output phase voltage that can predicted at any voltage level depending on the selection of node (dc) voltage V_1,V_2 etc. By connecting switch to one node at a time, one can easily obtain the desired output. Figure 3.2 shows the typical output voltage of a five level inverter. The structure of multilevel inverter must (1) have less switching devices as far as possible, (2) have capability of withstanding at very high input voltage for high power applications, and (3) have lower switching frequency for each switching ... • 3. Reviewing The Constitutionality Of The Voting Rights Act Summarizing and Analyzing Justice In 2013 a court case Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder that challenged the constitutionality of the Voting Rights Act, the Supreme Court in a 5 4 decision ruled that Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which was an act that .....was unconstitutional because it was based off of old data and no longer applied to those certain nine states which were Alabama, Texas, Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana and Virginia. (Excerpt from Shelby County, Ala. V. Holder) The Supreme Court s decision in Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder was unjust because it abolished Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act which protected minorities from voting discrimination in the South and caused a step back on the path to full equality because those nine states will go back to their ways where they discriminated and hindered African American and minorities from voting because they no longer have the authority of the Voting Rights Act over their heads. The Supreme Court s decision in Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder was unjust because it abolished Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act, which protected minorities from voting discrimination at a time, during the 1950s where racial tensions stood between whites and African Americans. Continued relevance of poll tax (5 states) and literacy tests (7 states) into 1950s. QUESTION FOR JAMES WHERE DO I GET THIS CONTEMPORARY EVIDENCE? • 4. Hogs Narrative A warm, translucent jelly was spread across my abdomen. A screen displayed my internal organs, as the technician operating a handheld machine, glided it across my stomach. An ultrasound, something that was unknown and strange to six year old me. My mom explained it as a procedure most pregnant women receive. Once it was completed, the person operating the bizarre machine wiped away the translucent substance and told us we could go. I was dropped off at McFall Elementary where I walked back to Mrs.Griffith s classroom. Due to the fact that it was May, the class was decorating styrofoam cups to later put flowers in for our moms as Mother s Day gifts. I sat down and got to work. Not even ten minutes later, my mom walked in through the door of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Waiting for procedures, waiting for results, we waited and waited, and waited some more. Time seemed to stretch on forever. Nevertheless, it was only two weeks. I lost a lot of weight during this time period, due to the fact that many scans that I had to have need to be done on an empty stomach. After the scans, I would soon have my surgery. My surgery kept getting pushed back, causing me to have to continue to wait. Much of my time was spent with my eyes on the large computer screen whilst I played Webkinz, or watching the neverending re runs of the Bee Movie on the movie channel that was provided. Finally, I was sent into surgery. I have no recollection of the moments leading up to surgery, it was a rushed blur of exchanges of words and preparation. However, after the nephrectomy, I woke up to a room packed and overflowing with my family members and a Mount Everest sized pile of stuffed animals, my favorite toy in the world at the time. I wasn t in pain immediately because they were still administering pain medication through the IV that was inserted into my arm. I fell asleep shortly after I first woke ... • 5. Mount St Helens Research Paper Mt St Helens (or the Fuji san of America) is known for the May 18th, 1980 eruption which destroyed the whole north side of the volcano in just a few minutes within a 6 mile radius. Mount St Helens is named by George Vancouver after a British Diplomat nicknamed Baron St Helens. Mt St Helens is located in Yakima, Washington State, United States, North America on the North American tectonic plate. (Which is a continental plate) Yakima, Washington is almost right in the middle of the state, but Washington borders British Columbia and Alberta, Canada and Idaho and Oregon, United States, and of course, the Pacific Ocean. MSH is at the 46.2N 122.2W, which is on the North American plate, and is formed by the converging the Juan de Fuca plate and the North American plate. The more dense Juan de Fuca plate subducts into the mantle. Otherwise,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The total estimated repair costs of the one eruption was ≈1.1 billion dollars. 1.1 billion dollars is a lot of money. In fact, the damages cost more than what Trump used for his campaign. Before MSH erupted, the volcano was an almost perfect cone, until it erupted and the whole North side exploded, lost 1,300 feet of elevation. 4 billion board feet of lumber was destroyed. The mudslides were no better, mud came flowing from the volcano at 50mph to 80mph and destroyed everything in its path. The May 18th, 1980 eruption was quite interesting. The eruption killed a total of 57 people. Everyone that was killed was between the ages of 9 and 83. Most of the people that died inhaled ash, and the ash got into their lungs, which is probably not good. There was a lot of ash that came out of MSH that day. Central and Eastern Washington was covered in 3 to 5 inches of gritty fine ash. Not including the estimated 540 million tons of ash that came out of MSH in the form of a mushroom cloud that reached 12+ miles (≈14 km) into the air. • 7. My Experience In My Middle School Middle school changes lives, it s as simple as that. It changes everything that you know about yourself and your abilities, and turns it upside down. When you walk through the doors on your first day of school, you are confident and ready for everything to come, but by the last day of eighth grade, you are exhausted, almost as if the school itself sucked the life right out of you. And yet, you have new friends, amazing teachers, and new interests that you had never even given a second thought before middle school. I myself have had many experiences in the middle school, good and bad. On one faithful day in fifth grade, I became acquainted with my close friend, Azzia Berestecki. At the time, we hated each other with the passion of a bull charging at a rodeo clown painted red. She was the popular one, always surrounded by friends, and lovingly accepting the rule of teacher s pet. I was the quiet girl who had a small circle of friends, and I was considered weird and annoying by Azzia and her friends. We went on like this for a while, hating each other for reasons none other than biases. Then, as if by fate, we both joined the robolab team at the beginning of seventh grade. We regarded each other at a bare minimum for a majority of the year, but then the unimaginable happened. My mother was rushed to the emergency room and was taken in for brain surgery. She would not have been able to drive me, or herself, to Pittsburgh and back for robolab s final competition of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Romans thought that because Plato was affecting their children, he must be a nefarious character, therefore no Roman should take his advice. Going to the twentieth century for a more modern example of this, Stephen Hawking was thought in the same light for his anti christian views. Going to painters, on the opposite of the spectrum, Pablo Picassothrew his wife down a flight of stairs so that he would not have a child, yet his work is still revered throughout the world as some of the greatest of all time. Adult media is given much more freeness but judgement is still apparent. Kevin Smith, a famous comedian, film producer and comic book writer, is typically judged on his morality because of his excessive cursing and his crude portrayal and scenes of indecency seen throughout his films. A person that I am close with even judged a ВЁThe FlashВЁ episode he wrote called Killer Frost. He only knew Kevin Smith from the fantastically made documentary The Death of Superman Lives, and Clerks, where he curses at nauseum and is really being a very explicit person. Since Kevin Smith s nature is like this he made a false preconception that the Flash episode would represent himself since writing typically reflects one s true nature, and in turn skipped that episode from his judgement of that person. This turned out to be the highest rated ВЁThe FlashВЁ episode ever made and comic fans responded positively to. • 9. Increasing Frequency And Normality Of Piracy Outcome Introduction This research project explores the increasing frequency and normality of piracy as a crime in addition to its strong relationship with Australia. In particular, the purpose of this research project is to explore How the rate of piracy in Australia can be reduced in addition to analysing the fundamental factors behind the increase in the frequency of piracy, furthermore investigating methods to reduce such criminal acts, including legal consequences. Definition of Digital Piracy Digital piracy or copyright infringement is essentially defined as the unauthorised sharing or use of a product that has been copyrighted, according to the Australian Parliament House (2006). However, the way in which the public infringe has changed over the decades. Initially, recording music being played on the radio onto a cassette player was the inaugural generation of piracy within our modern society. In the 1980s, recording Television (TV) onto Vertical Helical Scan (VHS) recorders became prevalent (C Span (Created by Cable), 1986). Soon after, the copying or ripping of Digital Versatile Discs (DVDs) and Compact Discs (CDs) soared (The Golden Age of Piracy, 2014). However, none of these methods compare in financial losses to the present generation of piracy the digital age (IP (Intellectual Property) Awareness Foundation, 2015). The vast lawless regions of the internet provide the perfect haven for digital piracy. Whether content is downloaded through peer to peer (P2P) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Nonviolence In Gandhi The movie Gandhi starts in 1893, where Gandhi was riding in a first class train carriage but was told to transfer into the third class carriage, even though he was holding a first class ticket. Gandhi refused to move to a different carriage, so a policeman arrived and literally threw him out of the train. This was the defining moment of Gandhi that changed his life forever: he would dedicate his life to fight for equality and independence for his people the Indians, nonviolently. Gandhi called his overall nonviolenceactions, Satyagraha. The best example of Gandhi s nonviolence is the salt march of 1930. The salt tax charged for something they need to live. • 11. Eastern Air Lines Lockheed L 1011 Crashed At 2342 Eastern... An Eastern Air Lines Lockheed L 1011 crashed at 2342 Eastern Standard Time, December 29, 1972, approximately 18 miles west northwest of Miami International Airport, Miami, Florida. The air craft was destroyed. There were 163 passengers and a crew of 13 aboard the aircraft; 94 passengers and 5 crewmembers died. All other occupants received injuries, which ranged in severity from minor to critical. It was a normal flight until the approach to Miami International and the landing gear handle was placed in the down position during the preparation for landing. The green light, which would have indicated to the flight crew that the nose landing gear was fully extended and locked, failed to illuminate. The captain recycled the landing gear a few times, but the green light still failed to light. The crew called for clearance and climbed to 2,000 feet mean sea level and followed a clearance to proceed west from the airport at that altitude. During this time, the crew became focused on correcting the malfunction and to determine whether or not the nose landing gear was extended and locked. • 12. The Benefits of a Liberal Arts Education The strength of a liberal arts education is the strong, varied foundation it provides over a wide spectrum of subjects. A liberal arts education is aimed at teaching you how to think. It helps you to develop strength of mind, and an ordered intellect. This broad based education allows students to create new theories, discoveries, and connections between fields. With such expansive roots, great innovators can build and expand from what others have learned, instead of wasting effort on rediscovery of what is already known. With the knowledge of a subject s strengths and capabilities, and weaknesses and restrictions, students can combine traits of different subjects to formulate new and more complicated concepts. New colors can only come from mixing those which already exist. The pigment of a new color depends on the shades and hues of the colors used to create it. Such is true for education. The resulting ideas are a sterling product of the compatibility of the subjects blended to create it. What vocational schools have in central focus, they lose in direct focus. Enormous concentration in one area pigeon holes, severely limiting the range of career opportunities. A liberal artseducation on the other hand, teaches one how to think, and how to apply this to a variety of subjects. Both aspects have their strengths and their downfalls. However, one can hardly say the liberal arts is useless and should be tossed aside in the modern day. A better understanding of education comes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. I Am Serving As An Instructor Reading these initial chapters in our textbook comes at an interesting time for me, as I am currently serving as an instructor for the first time! Speaking from personal experience, I agree with the authors in that simple skills are a crucial first step in getting off on the right foot. I believe it would be difficult to recover with students (as well as your own self esteem) starting out ill prepared. I really wish that I could have taken this courseprior to serving as an instructor, or at the very least attended some kind of training to prepare me. Of great importance, as Svinicki and McKeachie point out, is having a firm grasp on university etiquette to avoid taboo subjects and relate to students appropriately. Although common sense should prevail, training in this area may help mitigate issues that may arise with a lack of understanding on the part of the instructor. I appreciate the timeline that chapter two offers in relation to preparing to teach three months in advance, and can see myself referring back to this in the future. This section highlights the importance of avoiding procrastination in planning, and provides detailed instructions on how to stay on task. I did find the discussion of course goals and objectives interesting because I had assumed they would be set by the university or department. Regardless, the authors make clear the importance of goals and objectives; however from my experience there doesn t seem to be much emphasis placed on these in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Stereotypical Portrayal Of Women To young college aged women: The stereotypical portrayal of women in media is a problem that needs to be understood and solved. This problem is often overlooked because it is encompassing a lot to deal with. Women are used as sexual objects in the media everywhere, and we need to understand how to deal with the issue. A large source of media that is used are advertisements, which are everywhere in our daily lives. These advertisements can make women feel degraded and objectified. Young women see media of models portraying these beautiful standards that are unrealistic and lead to eating disorders and negative implications. Girls grow up seeing media all over and learning the stereotypical roles of women which are considered the norm. No father wants to see his little girl grow up feeling like she has to conform to the roles of women. In the article, Two Ways a Woman can get Hurt, Jean Kilbourne states, sex in advertising is pornographic because it dehumanizes and objectifies people, especially women... (420) Jean Kilbourne compares advertisements to pornography which makes us realize it s a large problem going on that needs to be solved. In the media women are also shown as typical house moms who clean, cook and stay home. This is a stereotype of women that has been around for a long time but is not true in all cases. • 15. The Impact Of Black Friday On American Symbols, Values And... INTRODUCTION Background and Problem September 11, 2001. I was busy finishing my Rapport de Stage in the Mackworth College Library, Derby, England, when a lady came to spread the bad news. Four commercial jetliners were hijacked and diverted from their paths to be used as guided missiles. Two of the jetliners ended up by crashing into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, New York City, around 9:00 a.m. local time. Half an hour later, the third jetliner crashed into the Pentagon, whereas the forth one, supposedly on its way to Washington D.C., crashed somewhere in Pennsylvania. However, the implications of that Black Tuesday were far more complicated than the mere reported facts. To President George W. Bush, the operations that were carried out against his country did not merely represent acts of terror on American symbols, values and interests, but they represented acts of war against the United States and to a large extent, the attacks were acts of war, indeed. According to many critics, these attacks were unprecedented in American history in that they presented a direct, potential threat to the American territory. The gravity of the event was manifest not only in terms of the scale of the attacks, but also in terms of the direction in which the guns were pointed. As Chomsky explains [t]he last time the national territory of the United States was under attack, or for that matter even threatened, was when the British burned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In modern literary interpretation, the correspondence of the authors intention with the meaning of the work, is considered paramount to discerning the true literary meaning of a work . E.D. Hirsch a renowned literary critic argues that to correctly interpret a text, the interpret must consider the author and the text s inner and out horizon . To discover the inner horizon, the interpreter must look at the culture and background of the work and author so they can understand the logic, belief systems, and historical context that bound the work. The addition of the outer horizon allows the reader to consider the author s intention in writing the piece. Hirsh establishes that a literary interpretation can be considered the most probable, if the reader considers the plausibility of the interpretation based on the context established from the text s horizon, coherence . Schroeder extensively describes the horizon of the text as well as the horizon of the author and his intention and evaluates her own claim with data and support. Il Duomo, the cathedral that was built to best all others, was missing its roof. This cathedral had been constructed in 1296 to commemorate Florence s new status as one of the most prosperous cities in Europe. The cathedral would serve as a symbol of this new Florence. The town fathers had a vision of a colossal dome that would rise to the heavens without support, pulling one s attention upwards. The only obstacle was that the technology at the time could not accommodate a dome of the scale as planned, with a diameter of 180 feet. This also established a new idea of beauty that was achieved through harmony, symmetry and abiding by classical rules and styles. These rules helped some artists to create individuality and to experience greater artistic freedom. Brunelleschi s creation of new machinery was still impactful, but less so than the others. Before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, America had an isolationistic approach to World War II. America believed that they had won the war for England, France and Italy, but were not given back the loans that were used for reparations. This resulted in the passing of the neutrality act by the US congress August 31, 1935. The purpose of this literature review is to investigate how Geographical Information Science (GIS) is or could be incorporated into conservation management of the Great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias). The reason for selecting the Great white shark as a single species to investigate, is that it is listed in the International Union for Conservation (IUCN) red list as vulnerable. They are vulnerable due to years of being hunted by man for fins and teeth, and often as a trophy for sport fishing, they are often caught as bycatch by commercial fisheries and can also become entangled in gillnets that protect beaches in shark control programs as well as culling. Adding to the importance to conserve this species the white sharks grow slowly, mature late, and the female does not reproduce every year and produces relatively few number of offspring during her lifetime. Vulnerability due to low numbers and low reproduction rate is only part of the problem the main reason to protect this species as well as other sharks is that the Great White shark is an apex predator. Apex predators maintain the balance of food webs. They keep many marine populations in the proper proportion, avoiding that they becoming too populous and cause harm to ecosystems (Newton et al., 2006; Frid et al., 2007). In this work, he conceives and examines two theories of behaviors in the workplace. They are known as Theory X and Theory Y. These distinct theories describe how individuals generally behave at work and how different types of managers might govern their employees. They have been used over the years to help managers to understand their employees needs, behavior and how to better manage their staff. These theories can be analyzed and broken down into three of many sub topics: Motivation, LeadershipStyle and Conflict Resolution. The two basic labels that McGregor created describe the assumptions that managers might make about their employees views on motivation and behavior. According to McGregor s (1960) Theory X, the average man is by nature indolent and is typically self centered and lacks ambition (p. 2). In this situation, managers are forced to act in an authoritarian manner. They must coerce their employees to do their jobs, because the assumption is that workers take little to no initiative. • 33. Influence Of John Locke s Second Treatise On Government Political organization is the framework for a government s operation. It is generally highly varied between different governments, but often takes one of several standard forms, which tend to be categorized as tending toward democratic or an authoritarian. However, whatever its structure may be, a government must have political legitimacy in order to function and maintain a monopoly over its subjects and affairs. Governmentis perceived to be legitimate by those it rules when its political organization operates unequivocally within certain parameters deemed appropriate by its subjects, and when punishment and law is executed equitably. Given that the parameters for government affairs are based on public perception, which is built off of societal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Contemporary scholars have built off John Locke s ideas on legitimacy to conclude several factors that weigh into whether or not the people perceive government as legitimate, such as whether or not the state s actions can be morally defended. In plain terms, the people must view having the government as a preferable alternative to not having the government. There is no consent if the people resent the government s existence or feel that the government s existence is unjustified. Another important factor of legitimacy is the extent to which the people feel obligated to obey government edict without coercive measures. If the people do not feel obligated to follow the state s commands, the government then obviously lacks legitimacy. Any obligation a state s subjects feel stems from the government s justifiability and moral defensibility. These two factors must be strong enough to compel the subjects into following government order instead of following alternative pursuits to accomplish individual goals. Legitimate government actually has this ability, while illegitimate authority merely purports it. However, even legitimate governments have parameters that limit what the state may ask of its subjects. These parameters are derived from the subjects, based on what they feel is appropriate for the government to do and what they will allow the government to do without ... Most people get taught manners from a very young age but for some reason people do not apply these manners to the road. It takes a lot to slow down and not hit someone when they pull out in front of you. If a person wants to listen to music they can turn on a stereo or TV, choose a CD or DVD to play, or listen to a songs downloaded in ITunes. All of these devices are proof to show how technology is used to record, play, and change the way music is heard. A look through history will show how far society has come in music alone. The development of technology has changed the way the music industry operates and the way society hears and purchases music today. It started off with humming, then singing. People sang in church choirs, in the living room, or on a stage. Music can be heard by vocals or by the melodic tune of instruments. People paid to go to symphonies and listen to composers perform their masterpieces. Family gathered around the piano, or at a church to listen to music on the holidays. Music was not portable, nor was it recordable. According to the novel, Looking Backward in 1888, the philosophy was that technology was the solution to the ills plaguing modern life and the means to achieve a perfect society (Katz, 51).
